FOOD NETWORK 11-PC HARD-ANODIZED NONSTICK COOKWARE SET

FOOD NETWORK 11-PC HARD-ANODIZED NONSTICK COOKWARE SETMy daughter and son in law bought this for me since my Pampered chef set was not holding up very well. I have used this for the past 3 weeks and it is easy to cook with and to clean up in. I haven't used the set in the oven yet but I absolutely love it. The only thing is that i now have to wash the cookware by hand but it has been so easy to clean that I don't mind not using my dishwasher. I love that the small sauce pan has a pour spout on each side of it and it also has holes on the lid so that you can drain without having to dirty a colander. It come with two very large frying pans. One is deep and since children come over with their families to eat I need the deep and large size. I haven't needed to use my electric skillet since. I love the pot being more narrow and tall so that it fits much better on the burner and cooks more evenly. It is very durable and you don't have to worry if one the kids use a metal spoon in it instead of the plastic spoons. I still use the plastic spoons since i had them for all my other cookware. The handles on the lids to get hot but it is no problem for me to use a hot pad to take them off. I rather have the handles holding up for a long time. I plan for this to be my last cookware set and at this price you can't beat that.

we've had this set for 4 years now, and it's been great.I was a bit apprehensive about getting a celebrity/TV brand, but it's been the best cookware set i've owned.We've used all of the pans quite thoroughly and never had any problems.The non-stick coating is starting to scratch, but that happens with all non-stick cookware eventually, and we really didn't make the effort to make it last. We cooked on some of the pans daily on a gas stove, and they've all been through the dishwasher with no problems.the handles are sturdy and stay cool to the touch, the lids fit securely.I particularly like the 11.5inch/5-qt. covered sauteuse pan, used for everything from fried green tomatoes to butter chicken.the small skillet is great for eggs, and the small sauce pan is great for making rice and pasta as the lid has holes on the sides for venting or draining.overall great cookware set, totally worth it for what you pay.

We recently bought this set over the Rachel Ray set and absolutely love it.I agree that they are easy to clean, and they evenly distribute heat for more even cooking.I also have not yet used them in the oven, but I can't wait to try.

Considering that my previous and only set of pots and pans in my life were the ones I bought straight out of college, these are a definite step up. But even without that perspective, I really like them. They're attractive, easy to clean and a decent weight. I'm not a professional cook, I just needed decent stuff to keep myself alive, Oh, and weren't warped and rusty anymore! Mostly I use a microwave or my toaster oven. With that said,

I looked and looked and settled on these because of the strainer lid. I only noticed it was Food Network after the fact; not that the FN brand means anything in particular to gauge quality. I've enjoyed the shows, but I don't assume that means a television network is capable of manufacturing good cookware. My only fleeting thought was that they wouldn't want their brand associated with junk, but was not my deciding factor. I went with these because they had the items I needed, cool features with the strainer lid and steamer insert, and they looked nice.

But I incorrectly assumed that the strainer fit the 3 qt pot which is what I would use to cook pasta in. It does not. Rather disappointed about that because I was looking forward to cooking my pasta with this type of lid. But considering I needed pans anyway, I'm not disappointed enough to send them back. Perhaps I can find a pot/strainer just for my pasta needs.

Heating seems to be pretty even and nonstick works like a breeze. The only thing I noticed when cleaning is since the handles are attached with these knobs on the inside of the pot, I can quickly see how gunk can build up between there over time. Not sure how I feel about that, but again, still a step up for me. Two thumbs up. Just nicking a star for the strainer.

Broil King PCG-10 Professional Portable Nonstick Griddle

Broil King PCG-10 Professional Portable Nonstick GriddleI love mine. It's big, so be aware if you have little counter space. I've got five in my family, and this grill is big enough for bacon on one side, pancakes on the other. It's easy to clean. I've had mine over a year, and have had no problems with the finish. Yes, it does have a hot spot on the left side, but I use it to my advantage. I've had some restaurant experience, and our flat tops were almost always at different temps. Something cooking too fast? Move it over! Put those sausages on the right, as it's a little cooler, and they take longer to cook.

I have had one problem: my probe thermostat went. I called the company, they took the date code off the unit (it was a gift from my Amazon wish list!), and sent a new probe out. The warranty was 30 months! Nice.

I say, if you're a heavy duty griddle user like I am, this is the TANK of the griddle world!

Wow.What a great cooking tool.This griddle is tough, heavy, big, and it works great.The flip down leg things work great to help drippings to drain.no wobble with the leg extensions up or down.It's thick so it takes a few minutes to warm up.I turn it on while prepping prior to cooking, so by the time I'm ready to cook it's up to temp.If you turn it on and expect it to be hot in 30 seconds, it won't be.If you're looking for a nice, polished, formal, "display piece" to impress the in-laws or the neighbors, this is not the appliance to purchase.The cast aluminum base has some burr's on the underside from the casting process.To grind them off and smooth it out would add cost,and the burrs don't decrease it's functionality (they're on the bottom!).The "Flimsy" splatter guard works great.it doesn't have to be sturdy, it only has to stop the splatter drops (which it does) thereby keeping my counter clean.the large cooking surface has a FEW minor marks, but nothing sticks to it.I coat it with veg. oil after each use and wipe it off prior to using.No problems yet.no issues with the coating coming off either.My pancakes are always evenly cooked (on a pre-heated griddle) and the long bacon pieces cook evenly too.

It's somewhat heavy.It's big and hard to store.these small issues are totally acceptable given the fact that this griddle cooks great and should last FOREVER.Treat it right, and it will treat you right.If you're looking to cook a big meal on a working, long lasting piece of equipment, this is the grill to get.my family thinks I am now the best breakfast cook.I should have purchased this a long time ago.

My 32 year old Miracle Maid griddle finally gave up the ghost.I tried my daughter-in-law's griddle but it was a mess.The pancakes stuck and it was a bear to clean.I went to the Cook's Illustrated site and found this one rated highest among the ones they tested.Well, I am so pleased with it.It cooks at an even temperature, it is easy to wash and it is large enough to cook eggs, bacon and pancakes all at once.It is a little pricy but so worth the cost.I recommend this product.

I purchased this griddle a few weeks ago so that I could finally sit down with my family to for Sunday pancake breakfast, and it delivered I can easily cook eight pancakes at once with flipping room to spare. But the size is only part of the story. The non-stick performance had me a little worried out of the box, as there were some "lines" on the surface that might have been manufacturing issues, but they seemed to just be cosmetic after some cooking they've faded, and the non-stick performance (new) is simply outstanding easily matches my good All Clad cookware for pure non-stick goodness and simple cleanup.

Another thing I really appreciate is how even the cooking temperature is. There are simply no hot spots on this thing, and if I really, really want to be picky, the temperature might fall off a bit at the very edge, but cooking eight pancakes gives me a great visual indicator from edge-to-edge, front-to-back, and there were simply no pancakes that had appreciably different cooking from each other. I both amazed and pleased.

The size makes this something that can be tricky to store we have an entire double-width cabinet dedicated to just this and my big electric skillet, and we have to tilt the griddle a bit to make it all fit. It's too deep to fit if you turn it perpendicular the cabinet door won't close all the way. So, be prepared to work a bit to find a place to store it.

But as a workhorse for a serious breakfast cook, I think this guy's a winner.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE January 2011

After living with this griddle for quite some time, I wanted to mention something I've run into. I still think this is a great griddle the even heating across the board is amazing, the temperature control is great. But and this is because I add a very thin coat of oil for browning my pancakes the non-stick surface gets a sticky residue that is T-O-U-G-H to clean off. I've tried just about everything, and so far, a paste of baking soda and water and plenty of elbow grease gets off most of it, but not all. I'd still recommend this griddle strongly, and the non-stick surface is holding up wonderfully even after many uses, but it's something to be aware of. I am sticking with the 5-star rating, however, as this griddle is still a winner.

-------------------------

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE January 2012

Wow another year! This grill is STILL going strong, and making 8 big pancakes at a time many weekends. I've also used it for mass cooking grilled cheese sandwiches, yum. I have NOT used it for, say, grilling burgers, but as a pancake maker it continues strong going into its third year. I've just learned to live with the weird residue, and I guess the good news is: it's not building up and building up, but rather just got established early on and seems to stay about the same.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE January 2013

Yes! Today is our annual family New Year's Pancake breakfast, and so of course I thought I would update my review: YES it's still our favorite breakfast making monster machine. I use it pretty much exclusively to make pancakes and toast sandwiches, and it continues to excel. I have never quite learned the secret to remove the "build-up" of oil on the non-stick surface, but it doesn't seem to affect the cooking ability, and clearly it's held up after three full years of use, and we are now starting year 4. It's still a 5-star griddle in my book. The ONLY wear I've noticed is that the plug socket has darkened over time from the heat. The non-stick continue to work perfectly. Recommended.

The packaging is kind of what I had hoped for a thick plain brown corrugated heavy-duty box, clearly indicative of a more "industrial" grade product.I am so tired of buying China-made products in glitzy glossy boxes that simply fail to perform.Unfortunately, this American-made product disappointed right out of the box.The casting on the bottom side was rough.Bits of metal flaked off, and some sharp shards landed on my countertop.There are still sharp unfinished areas on the bottom that could have easily been buffed or ground out at the factory. Where the handle is attached to the underside of the cooking surface, the welds show through on the coated cooking surface and the non-stick surface is missing over top of these weld points.The splatter guard, which is an excellent idea and another reason I chose to spend the extra bucks for this unit, is so flimsy and poorly made that it is an embarrassment.Clearly an afterthought, the splatter guard "attachment" methodology is ill-conceived as it requires that you slide the sharp-edged metal across the coated cooking surface --funny, since the instructions carry the usual warnings not to use metal cooking utensils.Inserting the temperature controller was also a bit of a challenge, as the fit was way too tight.Ultimately I was able to insert the unit far enough to obtain electrical connection, but with great effort. At this point, I snapped a few photos and gave very serious consideration to returning the unit.Still, I am an American through and through, and wanted this unit to be great.So I seasoned the surface with a little oil, warmed the cooktop, then let it cool.A few hours later I turned the unit back on, re-oiled it again, and mixed up a batch of pancakes.Finally, some good news.The heating is uniform, relatively quick, and the temperature will go higher than many non-commercial department-store variety griddles.The surface is reasonably flat, and the non-stick coating worked pretty well.I cracked a couple of eggs directly onto the cooking surface, and they didn't run or puddle.Bottom line, if you want a griddle that gets really hot, that heats pretty uniformly, and that is made in the U.S.A., go for it... just be prepared for some possible trade-offs.The "fit and finish" is sub-par.The casting is rough and uneven.It would appear that removing and reattaching the splatter guard will soon scratch the non-stick surface. You may well be disappointed at the overall "gestalt" of the thing.Maybe the one I got was made on a Monday???

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction Cooktop

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction CooktopI purchased mine from the Nuwave website.It was the BoGo offer with the cookware.As written in many other places the S&H for the cookware and second cook top negate any "get one free" benefit.That should be a considration of "how/where" you purchase.

I immediately unpacked my 2 PIC to test boiling water.First thing I found out was my Calphalon cookwarefrom Target is annodized aluminum...not magnetic and not induction compatible.That should be a considration about buying the PIC if you want to use current metal cookware...BE SURE IT'S Magnetic.

Ok, now for the review of actual functionality.I used both the "free" stainless steel cookpot and a castiron fry pan.Both PIC's that I received only had a functioning induction coil in the very center of the cooktop.If you see a picture without the pot or pan on the PIC it's the size of the center red circle that is intersected by the NuWave logo.This will affect the eveness of heat distribution and cooking...especially frying.

The button for "Med" indicates a temperature of 275.I just wanted to boil water for my first use(that's 212 degrees farenheight, actually slightly less here in Colorado Springs).After 5 minutes there were bubbles forming on the bottom of the pan in a 3-4 inch circle in the center.This is the location of the inner induction coil.According to the NuWave response on their facebook page the induction coils are supposed to be out to the OUTER red cirlce on the PIC cooktop so this indicated to me that the coils were not working properly.

To get the water to actually boil, and this is on the included DvD also, you need to select the SEAR/HIGH button and adjust down once you get to a boil.

I don't see this product being nearly as "precise" as the NuWave website indicates.There is definitely as much lag in heating pots as with a standard electric range.It may truly be more efficient overall because the heat is generated within the cooking pot by exciting the atoms and not transferred from the heating element to the pot...but speedwise I definitly saw zero improvment over conventional electric or gas.I have a GE Profile gas range and the small burner did a better/faster job boiling water, again probaly not as efficient since the flames must heat the pot.

Safety-wise there are indeed no open flames or electric burners but the glass cooktop does absorb heat from the cookware so there is a chance to burn yourself after extended cooking times with the PIC.

I think this may work fine as a hotplate for parties or for serving fondues...but for active cooking I feel it's quite a let down from what is shown on their site or in the informercials.

*** Updating to a 3 star rating after testing the green pans that came with the product.The heat convection in the "Perfect Green" 9" Duralon pan is very good and the non-stick surface is excellent(not sure about durability as this is day two with the product).I'm not sure why the sauce/steamer/fondue pan seems to work poorly but the Perfect Green fry pans work very well.I can't push this beyond 3 stars as it still seems as slow when using anything other than the fry pans.I bought this with the idea of having solid, precise control for frying chicken I will be trying that this weekend and hopefully reporting back here afterward.

### For those of you who wondered about chicken frying, it seems to hold temperature(once you get there !!!) much better than a standard electric skillet, and since it seems to cycle off when it reaches temp...unlike standard cooktops that keep adding heat unless you adjust them...it was a better final product. I was able to fry 12 chicken thighs in 3 batches of 4 without stopping or messing with the controls.

Still only a 3 because it definitly doesn't live up to the infomercials.

MARCH 10, 2013.

Our review from December published below originally gave this PIC a five star review. I have changed to only ONE star now. SO, if you happen to read any comments by other folks which might not make sence, that is why...

I also have added at the bottom of this review an email from The Induction Cooking website expert, addressing small induction burner elements and the cooking powers of these smaller Induction cooktops.

The Induction cooking method is a good choice.

THIS product has a defect which makes it cook at much higher temperature than the temperature you set.

I used a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of water and soup. THe temperature/thermostat was defective.

When the unit was set and 160, the thermometer measured 200 and a rolling boil occurred.

I returned the unit, exchanging it for another PIC.

THe same defect occurred.

I will be returning the second one now, and get my money back.

I hope that this update will serve to protect others from putting their money into a product which does not function properly.

ALSo, for reader's information. THe induction burner within this unit only measures 5 1/2 inches, so can't be used with larger pots.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question to Eric:
I've been looking at the listings on your site.What I am looking for is the
> ACTUAL size of the burner element in each of the countertop cooktops.
>
> I thought that the individual companies would have this information readily
> available, yet cannot seem to find it on amazon and your site. Do I need to
> call or write the individual companies to get this information.
Eric's answer to my question:
You could, but the answer will be pretty much the same (if you can get an
answer at al)--around the 5" to 6" that you have discovered by yourself.The
only exceptions would be in some units expressly designed for commercial use
(and priced accordingly).
One must remember that countertop units were not and are not intended as the
main station for cooking--they are improvements on the old "hot plate", which
is for lightweight supplementary cooking, from heating up a small pot of some
canned goods in a college dorm to at-the-table cooking of those few dishes
that need to go from pan to plate in a blink.They were never meant for 12"
skillets or huge, many-quart pots of soup or the like.
If one has to cook on them with anything much larger than 6" to 8" in
diameter, the material of the cookware and the natire of what's being cooked
come into play.Cast iron is a poor heat conductor, and so is quite slow to
carry heat from the center to its periphery; on the other hand, given enough
pre-heat, it will eventually get at least moderattely hot at the perimeter and
will tend to hold that heta."Clad" stainless steel, on the other hand, is
designed to conduct heat well, and so will heat up more quickly; but it will
also cool down more quickly.Neither material on a small, countertop unit
will be really satisfactory in heating the outer annular area of any pot or
skillet, but whether that is critical depends on what one is cooking: if one
is making pancakes, or cooking anything that needs even heat throughout, it
will never be a real success; on the other hand, something like heating a
liquid will work tolerably well because the liquid itself will very rapidly
even out the temperatures.
There is always, though, the power limitation: 13,000 BTU/hour, which is the
equivalent of what a 1.8-kW tabletop can deliver, is a lof heat energy, and
will do well for most household tasks.But even that cannot boil several
quart of water in a flash.In a build-in unit, a 1.8-kW element would be one
of the small ones.
I purchased through the TV Add BOGO.I couldn't wait to get my new induction cooktops because I want to replace my regular smooth cooktop with induction.Felt this would be an excellent way to try it out.Since I have ALL CLAD stainless steel cookware, I knew my cookware would not be a problem.
When the units showed up, I opened the first unit, filled up one of my All Clad pots with about 3 inches of water and put it to the test!Unfortunately, only the very center of my pan tried to boil.I NEVER got a full boil going with the unit.It didn't even get the center of the pot of water boiling.Since that didn't work, I pulled out a smaller pot and tried again.Same result.To top off the poor performance, the fan is incredibily loud.
I emailed with customer service (Hearthware.Com) and their answer was "sorry".I was told if I wanted to send it back, I had to pay the shipping and handling.Now, that means I have to pay shipping and handling both ways for a poor product.So, I figured it was just the one unit so I opened up the 2nd unit and tried the same thing.This unit was worse than the first one since after 10 minutes I couldn't get anything to boil.Temperature of the "boiling" water never got over 140 degrees. Fan was just as loud on this unit as the first unit.
So, back to customer service (email) I went.Again, no assistance in saying "let's replace that for you".Same answer send them back at MY cost.
Needless to say, I will never purchase a product through HEARTHWARE again.I will NEVER purchase a NU WAVE product again.It cost me over $75 for shipping and handling for a product that did not work and I don't have.MAJOR disappointment.
Ordered a NuWave PIC and NuWave Mini Oven online.I received a confirmation email on the order immediately after the order was placed.It had the following number to contact customer service at 855-742-2665.I wasn't aware of the high shipping and processing costs that came with ordering online ($153.84 for the items and $114.85 for shipping and processing).I immediately called the customer service number but got a recording that they are are open at 7AM CST M-F.I called the following morning at 7AM CST and spoke with Carlos.He said that the order wasn't in his system and to call back.I asked when to call back and he said after lunch.He said that he didn't have a way to check on the order.Fine, I called back after lunch and spoke with Geri and Teresa (supervisor).Both of them said that they see the order and would put in a cancel request but I had to call back after 24 hours to see if it got cancelled.They said that if not, I would be responsible for the shipping and processing charge after I returned the items.I told her that I should only have to call once that this customer service number was on the order confirmation that I received by email.I asked if they worked for Hearthware and they said yes.I asked them to transfer me to shipping and they would not do that.I was informed that the call was being recorded and I would again have to call back in 24 hours to see if the cancel request went through in time to stop the item from being shipped.
I located a number for Hearthware, Inc in Libertyville, IL at 800-229-2123 and the agent was very helpful.She said that the people I had been talking to are offsite and not employees of Hearthware, Inc and are in a callcenter.She cancelled the order for me and sent me a confirmation email.I asked to speak with a member of management with the company and am waiting for a callback.
I can't speak for the effectiveness of the product but the runaround has turned me off on this product and company.
Ikea Kavalkad Frying Pan Set of 2, Black Teflon Classic Non-stick Coating
Ikea Kavalkad Frying Pan Set of 2, Black Teflon Classic Non-stick CoatingLike most people are, I was sceptical about buying this because it was so inexpensive but I'm glad I did. I've made eggs, bacon, French toast, and a bunch of other food items in these pans and nothing will stick to them. Be very careful about the utensils you use because metal will scratch these easily (minus one star) but if you use nylon then there should be no problem. These are built sturdy also unlike a lot of other inexpensive pans. I recommend giving these a try before dropping large amounts of money on other pans.
Love this for all that it does.The feet keep it off the counter, and it's lightweight, yet stays in place.
Strauss Green Cuisine 8 Inch Skillet with Non Stick Ceramic Coating
Strauss Green Cuisine 8 Inch Skillet with Non Stick Ceramic CoatingI've been using these pans, of various sizes, since March of 2011. I have a 10" skillet that I use every day to make eggs; it has no scratches or dents, and the coating is still as good as the day I received it. I purposely refrained from writing this review any sooner, because I have used several non-stickpans whose coating wore out rather rapidly. That has not been my experience with these pans at all.
Almost nothing sticks to it. Every now and then, if I cook the heck out of bacon or a burger, a little bit of something will require a teeny bit of rubbing to loosen it, but that's about it; for the most part, wipe it with a paper towel and it will look like it just came out of the dishwasher. I usually wash it by hand; takes two seconds. I have put it into the dishwasher, and have noticed no ill effects, but I don't know if that would take a toll over time.
I have tried many non-stick Teflon pans. (I won't use Teflon except in an "emergency.") This is the first and only one that is worth the moniker "non-stick," that wears well, cleans easily, and seems to have no real vices. The only negative I have found is that the handles sometimes need tightening. (I intend to replace the screw that holds the handle in place with an allen head so I can tighten it down properly. If it works, I will edit this review to include the size screw and where to get it. Hopefully the manufacturer will do it before me.) The other side of that coin is that, because of the way the handle attaches, the inside of the pan is perfectly smooth, with no protruding rivets or screw heads. In my opinion, this pan deserves to become the standard by which other non-stick pans are judged.
MyCuisina is OK as far as delivery and their customer service, but their packaging is, or at least used to be, pretty amateur. Every pan I have received has nonetheless been in fine shape, but I would not be the least bit surprised if the problem the other reviewer experienced is a result of MyCuisina's poor packaging.
In short, if you're looking for a good non-stick pan that is not Teflon, in my opinion, this is the one you want.
I bought this because I own the wok version of this pan and love it.The wok has performed well for several months without losing its nonstick qualities, however this pan was only nonstick for about 2 weeks. After 2 weeks it is sticking like a cheap regular pan and I literally have to scrub food off of it.I am so disappointed.I don't understand the inconsistency in quality.This is definitely going back.
Calphalon 32-Inch Straight Wall Pot Rack with 4 Heavy-Duty Single Hooks
Calphalon 32-Inch Straight Wall Pot Rack with 4 Heavy-Duty Single HooksI have five of them. They are exceptionally sturdy and they are designed so that the hooks don't come off when removing a pan. I have had hanging racks in the past that become unbalanced when more than one pan is removed. Although the bolt holes match the distance between the wall studs, I have mounted them on strips of oak. The pans hang away from the wall and hold a lot of very heavy duty pans with no signs of strain.
This redesigned Calphalon 32-Inch Straight Wall Rack is a great accessory that adds functionality and style to a kitchen. The length is perfect for mounting by screws onto two wall studs, which are usually found 16 inches apart. I like to use this straight wall rack for hanging Calphalon stainless steel utensils, small Calphalon Commercial Hard Anodized Omelet pans, Sauté pans, Chef Pans, Saucepans, or the Butterwarmer. The stainless cool-v handle on the Commercial line matches the handles on the stainless utensils. The rack comes with 4 single hooks. I don't use any double hooks on this rack because I find it too small for that. I use 6 single hooks about 4 inches apart if I am hanging utensils.
Well, it does what it needs to do and didn't cost a fortune so I guess it was a success.But, it sure wasn't obvious when I ordered it that the mounting hardware was not included!And of course none of the hundred screws that I have in my toolbox match the dark grey finish...!How hard or expensive can it be to put four little screws in the box?!
Flavorwave Turbo Oven 4-Piece Deluxe Accessory Set
Flavorwave Turbo Oven 4-Piece Deluxe Accessory SetI purchased this accessory set to be used with my Sharper Image Super Wave Turbo Oven.
They fit perfectly inside the Sharper Image and are a nice addition to the Sharper Image unit.
These are great accessories for your HALOGEN oven, offering you many different new and interesting ways to play with your new convection kitchen-toy.
The accessories were delivered on time, they were well packaged, and they fit nicely in my Flavor-wave.I suspect that since most of the glass-bowl halogen ovens are almost identical in design, you should have no problem using these trays with your oven if it is not Mr. T's, such as the Deni, or the other varieties available on Amazon and elsewhere.
I was pleasantly surprised by weight, feel and the nice quality of the non-stick coating.I really have not needed to wash them in the dishwasher at all.The clean up is just so easy with soap and water, and they are small and simple by design, so right in the kitchen sink and to the cupboard and you're good to go.
A quick pizza-tip for you:Be aware that the crust does not really brown well on the bottom, because as you may have discovered, food needs to generally be exposed to the heating element, meaning above the food and facing the lamp, in order to cook quickly and efficiently.I have a solution for you.Cook your pizza crust first, in your new tray, but plain and with no sauce or toppings, for let's say 8-10 minutes on 400, or to your desired texture.The top of your crust, will ultimately be the bottom of the pizza.you with me so far?....Then, take the crust out, flip it over, and NOW, add your sauce, toppings, cheese, etc., then back into the oven it goes.Tada!Clever, I know.You're welcome.
I'm dropping it to four stars, only because, what the heck with the egg/breakfast tray?I have no idea.How do you cook eggs with this thing?Do you just put your eggs in the holders, and like magic, they come out hard-boiled?Anyone try this?Yes, instructions would have been nice, especially for this very peculiar accessory tray.If there are any geniuses out there, who can provide insight or instruction on this oddity, please comment back.I would be eggseptionally grateful.
I love Pizza and I make a really simple homemade dough that allows me to make a personal pan pizza ....My problem was I couldn't find a small enough round pan to fit into my Flavorwave turbo oven and hated the Idea of firing up the big oven for a small pizza for me.Now the problem is solved ....Pizza for one or twoand
made in my counter top oven .
This is a handy set of inserts for any oven of this type. The breakfast rack is a bit of a waste but the others are useful. Be warned, the grilling plate is not going to really five you grill marks. More like grill dents.Never the less I prefer cooking on it that just the racks.
I have a large kitchen but only one oven, so this has become an indispensable second "oven".It is much better than a microwave for my style of cooking.Its one possible drawback is that it is rather large for a countertop cooker.
It heats up breads and pastries quickly and easily.It cooks meats beautifully, especially spare ribs, without heating up the huge oven and the kitchen.I find I am using it for more and more roasting and baking tasks.No preheating is only one of its appeals, but a major one.My one wish would be a round cooking plate with a way to lift it up with a central handle.I could make dozens of hors d'oeuvres for parties with an easier way to cook and remove small things from the cooker. I really like this appliance.
Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Round Griddle
Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Round GriddleWhen I ordered this, my idea was to replace a Circulon 12 inch hard anodized griddle that lasted for about 2 years under regular use and some misuse. It gave us great Indian dosas with awesome texture, until it started becoming sticky. I wanted to try a non-stick this time and ordered this. The Anolon is lighter and easier to handle compared to my Circulon. Also, the non-stick coating is fine but just not suitable for your thin and crispy dosas. Just a heads up for those contemplating to purchase this pan for dosas. I wish I had been informed by someone before I made the purchase.
I love this pan, it comes in so handy for a bunch of different uses. The even heating from center to edge is amazingly consistent...browning everything the same no matter where it's placed. Also a great "one pan" breakfast pan...eggs, sausage, hash browns...all in same pan...You have to get this beauty, it will serve you well.
I have now had this pan for about one year. At first I simply loved it but it must be used at very, very low heat or the coating just flakes right off.
The one star review is correct.The picture is wrong for this item.Check Anolon's site for the correct picture of this item, link below.The items pictured for this product is actually the "12 Inch/ 5 Quart Covered Sauté"
As for the Anolon Advanced line as a whole they are great pieces of cookware.I have a large assortment of these pans and have used them for over 5 years.They are extremely durable and when properly used and taken care of they will last a very long time.I use them daily and would recommend them to anyone looking for great cookware.
The Teflon lasts and none of my pieces have ever lost any of its coating.That being said do not use metal utensils or put them in the dishwasher.I only use bamboo or plastic utensils and hand wash the pans.Hand washing is extremely easy because the Teflon is so good.Simply wipe them clean with a soapy sponge and then dry.The silicon handles are rated up to 450 degrees so they can be used on the stove top or in the oven.
All-Clad Stainless 7-1/2-Inch Nonstick French Skillet
All-Clad Stainless 7-1/2-Inch Nonstick French SkilletThis skillet is not ready for prime time and not up to par with other All-Clad skillets. It is very lightweight which makes it feel like a cheap bargain-basement purchase, not something that costs $60.00. The handle on this skillet is the worst I have ever seen. It is extremely uncomfortable to hold unlike other All-Clad handles. The upper edges are so thin they feel as if they could cut into the hand. The customer service rep at All-Clad told me all of their French skillets have the same handle so that means I will not be buying more.
We got this pan in July (6 months before this review) and we've been using it more or less non-stop since then.It works very nicely on our ceramic, smooth-topped electric range and has held up through many rides in the dishwasher.Not a mark on the non-stick interior yet.The handle hasn't struck me as much, if at all, different than the many other All-Clad pots and pans that I've got.
The pan is a bit lighter than the 8 inch regular non-stick stainless skillet but holds its heat quite well.It was a good price versus the 8 inch skillet, too.
Had to return this pan because bottom was 1/8 inch higher in middle than edges not good.Also had the same experience with 9 and 11 inch nonstick pans.I did get a 9 inch non-nonstick pan that had a perfectly flat bottom and I love it.
OK, I am a HUDGE fan of All Clad, but the two non-stick pans just have not held up. I would recommend all the wonderful regular stainless, and get a cheap non-stick pan that you plan to replace each year for things that really need a non-stick for.
Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir Fry
Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir FryI bought this wok to use it on the inner rings of my flat surface stove so than the range hood can suck all the smoke while i am cooking. The size is perfect. The bottom size is 6", which fits the ring perfectly. The top size is perfect too, though i can use a 12" one too. The wok is solid and heavy and can hold up heat. I have used very cheap cast iron pots and cabon steel pots. They are either too heavy or too light. This one is great.
The only thing i dont like is that it seems to have a coating. After we used it the first time, the coating was burned off. I guess it is the seasoning coating. Hope it is harmless.
I only used it for one month. I coat it with oil before and after each use, it still gets sticky after one month. The dark "natural seasoning"comes off as small pieces, then mixed with my food. After their "natural seasoning" comes off, the pan became very sticky like a stainless pan, and it's not stainless, it's rusty. I'd go back to Starfrit's cast iron pan, even though it costs little more.
This wok stays cute on my oven top, suitable for 2-3 person. It is light weight, easy to clean and maintain. It heats up quickly and can get very hot. The vegetable it cooked looks fresh and with good taste. With meat, it did stick a little bit at the beginning, but I think for cast iron it takes time, the more you use it, the less it sticks. For those who have 4-5 people to serve, I would suggest you to try that 14" one. Before buying this one, I was struggling between a carbon steel and light cast iron, finally I decided on cast iron, because a friend shared that she had both of them, both get heat quickly and not stick, but carbon steel more easily gets the vegetable steamed, with more water come out, while cast iron makes food come out dry and still taste juicy.
I recently purchased an induction burner (Max Burton 6200 1800W) which I love, but the problem I ran into was finding a cooking vessel that could take advantage of its heating potential. After some experimentation with various pots and pans, I found that the ones made of carbon steel and cast iron work the best....by far.
I was really happy to find a cast iron wok that didn't weight 75 lbs and was the perfect design (wide bottom). I got it yesterday and was blown away by two things; how light it was and how hot you can get this wok. I used a thermal gun on it and got readings above 800 degrees. Even my carbon steel wok didn't get that hot.
This wok comes pre-seasoned, looks to be well constructed, is priced right and definitely does what a wok is supposed to do...."get rocket hot". If you are looking for a good gift set for that vegetarian cook in your life, get this wok and a good induction burner (they aren't expensive). They'll love you forever.
Lodge Logic L10CF3 Pre-Seasoned Chicken Fryer with Iron Cover, 5-Quart
Lodge Logic L10CF3 Pre-Seasoned Chicken Fryer with Iron Cover, 5-QuartThis is the first cast iron product that I had ever purchased. I was using layered stainless steel and nonstick cookware until I got tired of either having food stick on the stainless steel wok or several nonstick pans peeling after just two years of heavy use for each pan. I really enjoy using this 5-quart fryer. After only a dozen or so uses and it starts to show its' nonstick properties. It is vital to preheat the pot to sear the food properly so it will not stick. Cast iron is heavier compared to what I am used to, so cleaning this pot can be a chore at times.
I enjoy eating lots of rice, noodles, and pastas. Making fried rice on this pot taste really great (a good portion of eggs is crucial to good fried rice). A healthy diet should limit the intake of foods cooked in high heat (prolonged stir fry, grilling, deep frying). I pretty much use this to cook my daily meals as it adds more flavor when the meats are seared and not simply boiled like what my stainless steel wok did. I substitute a portion of oil with water and dry spices and the food still turns out quite tasty. I think every family should have a cast iron cookware since you can use it anywhere: campfire, stovetop, oven, and bbq grills. I have owned this pot for 3 months now and I have yet to deep fry anything on it. This pot is very versatile and I use it to cook everything.
I learned it is important to not use any harsh detergent or any detergents at all when washing cast iron cookware. If it does start to rust, it should come off quite easily if you boil water in the pot and then scrub it with a steel brush. Proper care is important when storing cast iron pots for a long period of time. I heat up the pot after cleaning it in hot water, and I spread an even layer of oil all over the pot before I close the lid. It is recommended to use vegetable oil, but I only use canola oil these days and it works the same. I heard that cast iron gets better with age, and I really look forward to seeing that statement come true.
I was considering this 5-qt chicken fryer but chose the 5-qt Dutch Oven instead.
The Dutch Oven has 1-3/4" less diameter and 3/4" more depth for $35 less.For that I can fry my chicken in the Dutch Oven (I don't think the chicken will object, probably won't notice any difference at all :-)
And, imo, these utensils are just too heavy to "handle by a handle" (!!), the loops suit me better.Either way, it's going to take two hands to handle this whopper.
If you like math: this Dutch Oven has about 9 sq. inches less (a 3" x 3" square) than the Fryer.Well, that's about three drumsticks, I guess.And the extra depth of the DO doesn't help, one doesn't stack chicken to fry it; the idea is to have it all on the bottom.So, it all cooks down(!) to how much chicken you want to fry at one time.
The above is mostly for the fun of it, but it's true that I'm getting theDutch oven instead.Being a one-person household, it will fry all the chicken I can eat (at one sitting).Then I can do a tall pot roast, use that extra 3/4" depth.
:-)
We don't have an electric fryer of any kind. We use the 5 quart Lodge chicken fryer. I can't stand the smell of frying in my house so we use the burner on our grill outside and this works perfect. This fryer is extremely heavy. It is more shallow than a dutch oven. We have the 5 quart dutch oven also and the fryer seems like it is a thicker cast, probably to support the high temperatures of frying. You can really tell when you pick the pot up that it has some weight to it.
Everything we have cooked comes out perfect. The size of the pan is great for deep frying so you don't have to waste alot of oil. We have deep fried fish, french fries, onion rings, green tomatoes. And best of all, when you are done, it cleans up easily.
Being the proud owner of several other Lodge cooking vessels, I boldly tried my hand at frying.All I can say is wow.
The chicken fryer works wonders on chicken, veal, and cube steak.All of the cast iron properties come in to play when using the fryer, and it provides the control and the stability needed when frying foods.The heavy weight gives it stability, and the heat retention properties mean that you can control your cooking efforts more efficiently.
Try the fryer, you won't be disapointed!
