KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set

KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set ()OK, I am a bachelor, I live alone with the cat.OTOH, I am actually a fair hand in the kitchen. However, my pots and pans are a collection of thriftshop bargains and hand-me-downs, no two of which match, and several of which aren't in very good shape.

So, when I had a chance to get this cool new cookware set from the famed KitchenAid folks, I jumped on it.

And, I am glad I did. This is a pretty "cool" set(and "cool" has a double-meaning here). Each piece is well crafted and solid. No thin cheapo stuff here.

You get two saucepans, a stockpot and a sauté panall with good solid glass covers with the neatest silicon rubber seals I have seen. And, two fry pans.

The glass covers allow you to watch your food, while sealing in the heat and steam when needed. They also don't rattle.

They also come with a silicon rubber pad under the heavy handle. This means that a heavy pot doesn't cut into your hand when lifting, it decreases fatigue. It also protected my hand from getting burnt when I forgot the potholderNICE! That's the other "cool" part.

(Still, one should always use hand protection anyway. "Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon.").

They also clean up just fine, just about as well as "non-stick". Just a spritz of oil spray and they were spotless with little effort. I even "torture tested" one, leaving stuff overnite and it still cleaned up spotless.

Now, in this paean of praise, I do want to say one thingI still like my old inherited cast iron frypan (It's older than I am!).I think it does a better job even than these stainless steel & aluminum marvels for certain fry jobs, like steaks (And I do like a good steak!).But of course, seasoning and maintaining good cast iron is a long term process, and not for everyone. However, for me, for this set, I would have preferred one more saucepan and one less frypan.

Gorgeous set, perfect for as a giftwedding, housewarming or that bachelor you may know.

I have dropped off all my old stuff to the Salvation Army folks.... except my cast iron, of course!

()We were really excited to get this set.

Unpacking them, we thought these will be great to use:

The handles are sturdy and easy to grip

The handles have hard-rubber like material underneath that make them easy to grab and not so hot

The steel is brilliant and the finishing fantastic

The thickness of the metal makes them feel high class and very sturdy

The problem...

We were cooking some vegetables and put the lid on the skillet. Not an uncommon thing to do, but when we checked the pot, the lid was stuck!

It wasn't that easy to work with when the pan was so hot, so we let it cool thinking that the pan and the lid would come unstuck. Nope.

Big problem, we were going out of town the next day. So not only did we not have the food we cooked, we had to put the pan in the fridge to try to work on it when we got back from our trip.

This was not a good way to get going with the set.

Even when the pan was completely cooled, we couldn't get the lid off. We tried running it under cold water, hot water, we were pulling very hard to try to get the lid off, and no go.

Finally after getting back from our trip, we were able to fit the edge of a spoon between the rubber part of the lid and the pan and pry the lid off.

Whew. We'd be careful to not let that happen again...right?

Well, it happened again with one of the pots and the lid. The lid got stuck and wouldn't come off and we were trying to watch for to prevent it from happening!

The trick to getting the pans and lids unstuck, in case it happens to you, is to get the edge of a sturdy spoon, and to place it at the rubber part of the lid just over the handle of the pot, then you can use the pot's handle for leverage to pop the top off.

It wouldn't be such a big deal, but these are very nice cookware pieces. You'd think that this sort of thing would have been tested for.

So if lids suctioned to their pans is something you don't mind, go for. If not, get ready to pump some iron, er, steel.

()I couldn't be more pleased with this cook set. As I continue to use it I will update this review. There are a couple other sets out there that are close competition so I wanted to be clear on what makes this set different for me. I'm a single guy who doesn't always cook daily, but is not afraid to tackle "advanced" cooking techniques and real homemade from scratch food when I get the urge. I want to give a complete review so you understand what kind of cooking I do and how I use the cookware to best understand if it may fit your needs.

My background with cookware:

I'm normally a Farberware and T-Fal user, not the cheapest, not the most expensive and I've been eyeing upgrading my essential cookware for some time. Specifically-as my cooking skills advance I could use pans that can also go in the oven-which my current T Fal and Farberware cannot. Doing dicing in the pan is a no-go on the nonstick surfaces (I've ruined some, knowing I shouldn't do it, but needing to), so the French skillets in stainless in this kit was very welcomed.

What you get:

The description is accurate on "what & how many", but I wanted to outline the experience. From opening the box I was struck by the beauty of this cookware-very visually appealing, and could easily be displayed in your kitchen. If you have no option than to hang pans, these look really really nice. It's all very thick and durable, but at the same time does not feel too heavy at all. The weight seems just right, and well balanced from side to side. Even from sight, a pan on pan comparison left me ready to donate my old cookware for this set.Of course I didn't, and will continue to use th new set to see how well I like it.

The aluminum disc in the bottom of the pans is really a step up from what I'm used to (I attached a picture)-quite thick, and does do a great job of even heating. The handles and lids have silicone rubber seals and grips, which not only looks but feels premium and keeps the lid from "rattling" during heavy boils. Looking back, the T-Fal and Farberware were quite basic with hard plastic handles and lid handles that couldn't go in the oven. I guess you don't know what you're missing until you've experienced better!

The handles are extremely comfortable to use (picture attached), and I hadn't realized how this would make a difference over what I am using currently. The curve evenly distributes the weight of the pan across the whole palm of your hand as you grip it, as opposed to my current T-Fal which puts most of the weight at one end of your hand due to the straight through construction. With a straight handle you pick your shoulder up in the air so your hand accommodates the handle, instead of the handle accommodating to you. Very appreciated and easily overlooked feature.

The sauce pan and stock pan are wide topped to make it easy for in-pan whisking, as well as quicker reductions. I believe the kit calls this"windsor shape" which I wasn't familiar with.

Cleanup has been great so far, and as a kit you can fit every piece in a standard sized dishwasher in one washing (picture attached). I always say the real test of a pan is how well it cleans up when something gets a bit burnt on, or potatoes fog up the bottom of a stock pot. Neither has happened to me yet, so I'll have to report back in after that happens.

Comparison to other close matched 10 piece kits Amazon sells:

The Cuisinart 77 kit is 10 piece also, and can go 150 degrees higher in the oven, but does not have silicone grips or lid seals and windsor leans.

The Farberware Classic set is similar 10 piece, and is essentially what I own. The non stick pans scrape easily, handles are hard and can only oven to 350 degrees. Pans are thinner and lids rattle.

The Cuisinart Chef kit is well rated, but doesn't have premium handles, as deep of a frying pan, or rattle free lids.

The Rachel Ray kit is really nice, but hand washing is recommended. Major bummer in my book.

Warranty & Value:

The warranty with this kit is similar to others-to your door replacement first year, and send in for a similar replacement for life. A normal expectation with premium cookware. An interesting bit of research I did-the instruction and warranty envelope said "Thank you for purchasing Meyer Gourmet Cookware". Meyer Manufacturing makes Anolon brand cookware, which, if you compare, would yield this to be the best value Anolon cookware set available!

In summary, I've been pleased with the set and some premium features it includes over my existing collection of cookware. It looks nice, cooks well and cleans up well. It would make a great kit for the aspiring cook, for your first set of cookware if the price is ok for you, as a gift, or for someone who really needs to replace several items in your cookware collection.Of course if you're a professional chef, you'll probably prefer to build your cookware set piece by piece, but if you're in the market for a really nice set, I couldn't recommend any other options more than this one.

*I've attached several photos that have additional comments beyond the review.

Update 1:After some use, two new discoveries: The large stock pot and the skillets use the same size lids, so that's one less "trial" you have to do when reaching for one plus a lid.On the downside, the "tops" of the metal handles don't stay as cool as I want, and actually can get pretty hot.The normal grip of a lid is around the handle, so you have to learn to lift with the flat part of your hand and not grip around it.I disliked this feature enough that I docked it a star, down to 4 stars.

Update 2:Some more weeks in, I've had some food stick and it washed right away... no stains, no problems. Still just as pleased as I was originally. After update 1 above, I've mad just a tiny adjustment to how I grab the lids, and it's proven no problem again at all. I've left the review at 4 stars instead of 5 because I'd suggest a design modification for the handle style but other than that I'm still far more pleased with this kit than the Farberware stuff I had before.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) ()This KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set is a good solid product and a good value for what you get.Over the past year I have evaluated a lot of cookware and used pots and pans from 3 new cookware sets.Good cookware is a big investment. While this set is reasonable, it will be worth it for some people to invest a little more on an alternative.

PROS:

++ Good value for a stainless steel set

++ Variety of pots allow you to prepare many types of meals

++ Glass lids allow you to monitor your food without slowing down the cooking

++ Handle grips are cushioned to add some comfort when moving skillets or pots

++ Skillets have high walls for splatter or for turning omelets

++ Riveted handles provide greater strength and durability than the screws used in many entry level sets

++ Saucepans are functional

++ Awesome oversized stock pot is great for stews and soups

++ Non-stick surface heats up quickly and cleans easily, though clad performs better

++ Warrantee allows for free replacement within the first year

++ After the first year, you have to send in the cookware at your own expense if it fails

CONS:

-Does not specify the grade of stainless steel, which means it's likely not 18/10

-Thick aluminum core bases add a lot of weight

-For a little more, an entry level clad set offers much more in terms of quality and features

-Alternatives have metal lids instead of silicone ringed glass (could be a positive if you like this feature)

-Skillets are on the smaller side, limiting functionality

-While functional, saucepans are on the smaller side as well

-Pan walls are on the thin side

-Touted as "dishwasher safe," but the fine-print states dishwasher use voids the warrantee

-Many other warrantee limitations, so read carefully before first use

-Also touted as "oven-safe" though I advise against this (low heat rating, handle grips, etc.)

PERFORMANCE VS PRODUCT CLAIMS

Only a quick clean-up was required before the initial use.I found that cleaning up the pots and pans took longer after each use than my clad cookware. But the pans all heated up evenly, if a little slowly. One other note about this product is that despite the product description, plan to clean every piece by hand if you don't want to void your warrantee. While the set is technically "dishwasher safe," the fine-print on the included pamphlet states in no uncertain terms that they are not responsible for damage caused by dishwashers.

The skillets worked well, though the 8.5 inch skillet is a little small for my use.Even the 10 inch is about the smallest I would ideally use.An ideal set would include one 10 inch skillet and one 12 inch. The 8 inch is good for preparing single portions at a time, and is certainly good enough for omelets or small portions of pan seared meats. But I try to make as many meals using single pans, which is why I would tend towards larger skillets.Just one note: the product description includes the claim that these are perfect for making crepes. If anybody has the skill to make a decent crepe in a skillet, I bow down to you.

The large stock pot is really the nicest pot in this set. It's normal for sets to include slightly smaller stock pots, and the added size means this will be immediately useful as an addition to my many different pots. It's not oversized, but this is a great size for stews and soups.

THE ALTERNATIVES

This set is aluminum core cookware, which is why there are thick disks at the base of each piece. That helps them to heat evenly, but it also adds a lot of weight.

There are many advantages to a fully clad set such as the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set I've been using over the past 6 months.Clad cookware heats up much quicker, has a higher temperature threshold, and is lighter to use. It's also a little bit easier to clean, though that distinction only shows up over long term use.The Cuisinart 77-10 Chef's Classic Stainless-Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set or Cuisinart 77-17 Chef's Classic Stainless 17-Piece Cookware Set are also worth consideration, though I don't own that version.

Also, there is bound to be some concern about leaching from the silicone rings on the glass tops.I am not super concerned about that, as this material has come a long way. There is tons of silicone bake-ware that has to withstand much higher temperatures than this set.Still, Kitchen Aid has a number of similar sets that have metal rimmed glass or stainless steel lids. The KitchenAid Gourmet Distinctions Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set, KitchenAid 75826 Gourmet Essentials 10-Piece Brushed Stainless Steel Cookware Set and KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set all deserve consideration.I would definitely review them if that is an issue for you.

CONCLUSION

If you are looking for a gift for a housewarming or a young graduate getting their first apartment, this has to be high on the list of sets to be considered. But if you are looking for yourself and this is your first foray into stainless steel cookware, you may want to evaluate your options.Paying a little more now can help you avoid having to buy another set in the future. The Cuisinart Multiclad Pro is my favorite.

Happy shopping.

()When it comes to certain products, I prefer waiting several months before submitting my review, and so is the case with this set of pots and pans. It's been nearly a year and I fall a little more in love with them each time I use them--they aren't perfect, but they're darn close.

I remember back to the first time I opened the box--it was so well-packaged and gorgeous that I had to stand back in awe. Testing the weight of each, I found that while they looked thick and heavy, they weren't; the weight of each pot/pan was balanced and felt good to grip.

Heating the pans requires a little bit of time, but the result is a very even heat across the base. (And just for reference, I cook on an electric range, but I've been itching to try them with a gas burner.) Initially I was concerned that the handles would get too hot to grip without a towel or mitt, but I was surprised to learn they weren't. As far as the lid handles, I've developed a habit of using a towel to lift them off, so I've not had any problems in that area either.

But let's get to how they perform in action. The lids develop a nice tight seal while cooking, and the skillet and the stock pot use the same size lid, so you don't need to worry about finding the *right* lid if you've got multiples on the stove. If you're used to cooking with non-stick pans, there will be an adjustment period because these do not have a non-stick coating. This is beneficial because it means you're free to do more *in pan* than you would with non-stick (for instance, using a metal whisk, knife, or fork) and clean up, especially if you accidentally burn something, will be more challenging. And even after consistent use, these pans still look amazing--no stains or scorching.

Kirkland Signature 18/10 Stainless Steel 13 Piece Cookware Set (559728)

Kirkland Signature 18/10 Stainless Steel 13 Piece Cookware SetI purchased theese at another store, much cheaper. I researched cookware for about 2 months and decided on theese and haven`t regretted one bit. I absolutely love this ccokware. I purchased a slightly older set, with a different design, but the quality is the same. This is a heavy set of cookware,so if you want a light wieght set,its not for you. It has 2 layers of stainless steel, one layer of copper abd two layers of aluminum. It cooks very evenly and not to difficult to maintain its beauty. I actually bought two sets,as one is hanging on my pot rack. Love everything about them.

Kirkland Signature 18/10 Stainless Steel 13 Piece Cookware Set (559728)We purchased a set of this cookware for ourselves and my son in law's mother on 12/23/11 and followed the washing instructions. When we wiped the cookware with white paper towels, a gray residue came off on the towel. So we decided to put them in the dishwasher and after each of 6 washings found the same problem.Costco's customer service manager did not return my calls. His secretary suggested trying another set from a different lot.We did this today with the same results. If you briskly wipe the inside of the stainless pots or lids with a damp paper towel a gray residue still comes off on the towel.I doubt you want to eat this. This product is NSF certified.I have contacted them.

I agree with the previous two reviews, this is a great looking and great cooking set of pots and pans.

I was having trouble with eggs sticking also, so having the occasion of 3 sisters-in-law present one day asked the cooks among them what I should do for eggs over easy.

The solution for me was to cook at the lowest setting possible on a gas stove top, warm up the fry pan for a few minutes with oil covered, add the egg, and recover, cook, flip, recover, done, no sticking.

Egg was perfect!!

Seems the solution is covering the frying pan while egg is cooking.

Whether it adds moisture while cooking or it just works better that way I don't know, but it works.

I would never have thought of this on my own and never saw this technic in any review or hand-out by the company.

This set replaced a much more expensive Calphalon non-stick set, very unhappy with Calphalon.

I purchased these last week, and haven't used them much, but I LOVE them. I bought a larger 5 Qt Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Sauteuse at the same time ($100), and although I love the size of that pan, the Kirkland pans cook scrambled eggs better, are heavier, heat more evenly, don't stick as much, and since I bought a used set on ebay, were much cheaper for all 13 pieces than for the two-piece Calphalon pan with lid. Only some of the set was used, so a minute or less with Bar-Keepers friend on a couple of the pans and they all shined like new. I've cooked scrambled eggs with the skillet, and was thrilled at how well they cooked vs. the Calphalon. I read on other sites to heat the pan, add the oil, let the oil heat, then add the eggs, and WOW! no sticking, as good as non-stick, actually better because the eggs had smaller curds. I cooked eggs the same way with the Calphalon, and the eggs didn't stick until I stirred the eggs to scramble them, then I wind up with a thin layer of egg at the bottom of the pan.

The only thing that some may not like on the Kirkland pans, vs the Calphalon Contemporary is that the Calphalon pan is made up of two pieces the handle and the pan (all-clad or multiclad is what it is called I think), and the Kirkland is made up of three the handle, the pan, and the disk at the bottom of the pan where the aluminum and copper disk is, the aluminum/copper doesn't extend up the sides of the pans. The disk is attached well and isn't unattractive, it even has a copper band around it that looks pretty and cleans nicely with the Barkeeper's Friend. Personally, I'd rather have the Kirkland that is heavy and cooks well, vs the Calphalon that isn't near as heavy and doesn't heat as evenly (I put egg whites in the Calphalon, put the lid on the pan, and watched while one half of the egg cooked and the other half of the egg was raw and clear gas stove).

I'm really happy with my Kirkland set, I love everything about the pans, sometimes I even like to just admire their beauty.

Want Kirkland Signature 18/10 Stainless Steel 13 Piece Cookware Set (559728) Discount?

I did exhaustive research on cookware and expected this to be comparable to some of the higher end sets selling for $350 $500. Indeed, the construction and descriptions all sound similar, and I did in fact go to Macy's to look at the higher end cookware, hold it to feel it's weight, etc.

My previous cookware was Calphalon nonstick, mixed in with some stainless pots that I grew up with (mom's old Revere Ware -which performed much better than this) and I am old enough to remember what cooking in stainless was like before non stick was all the rage.

I haven't had a very good experience with these. I was diligent in following directions on how to oil and heat the pans, but a couple of them, in particular one stubborn 10 inch fry pan, has just been a nightmare. Everything sticks to it no matter what I do or how much oil I put into the pan. I've spent more time researching how to clean and "fix" this pan than I did researching good, affordable cookware in the first place. Unfortunately, the only thing that has worked to some degree was easy-off oven cleaner. Since I bought these for improved health (to get away from non-stick) using oven toxic cleaner doesn't bode well with me. But, even after the oven cleaner and slicking the pan with oil, all the Bon Ami and Barkeeper's Friend, lemon juice, steel wool scouring pads, nothing has worked to get the pan clean from one night of fried chicken we made a month after we bought it.

The problem may be related to the way the interior is finished slightly grooved instead of smooth.

The pots are okay, and clean up well enough, although I have had trouble with stuff sticking to them as well. The lids are scratched just from having them in the sink with other dishes. We've never put any of these in the dishwasher (there's NO WAY the dishwasher would get them clean.)

These pots and pans scratch very easily. Due to having to use a metal spatula to get the stuff that stuck horribly, they're all scratched up.

The smaller (8") fry pan hasn't given me too much trouble, but enough trouble that I've resorted to my old Calphalon non stick for frying eggs for breakfast.

I've had these for 5 months, and was so excited to get them. However, I have cooked less in the last 5 months than ever before in my life. I think it's because these pans are such a pain, I'd rather eat out than have to deal with the clean up. Anyhow, I've probably cooked 30 meals in 5 months. They are pretty when you can get them clean. When I'd read reviews of people claiming they had nothing but trouble, I figured they just didn't know how to cook in stainless. But, there's something else going on with these. A design flaw or some other quality issue perhaps.

One of my friends had a much older set of these from Costco that is probably 8-10 years old. They were wonderful and I enjoyed using them when at my friend's house. Friend lives out of state or I'd be able to compare them better but the construction on these appears different than the old ones everyone raved about. I have learned recently that the older sets of Kirkland Stainless that everyone raved about were made by Tramontina, which at the time manufactured their cookware in Brazil. (Tramontina now makes similar cookware that is sold at Walmart but half of it is made in China.)Several magazines and cooking sites cited Tramontina as being as good a All-Clad for about 1/3 the price. I have compared the two, and All Clad is much better quality wise but for low cost cookware, Tramontina is still a better deal than the new Costco set which, nowadays, is just cheaply constructed and made in China.

Another note. There was some pretty stubborn grey residue that took lots of washing to get off when we first purchased these. I suppose it was factory machine oil.No other brand sells their pans covered in thick, grey residue. Also, these weigh, depending on the pan, up to twice as much as All Clad and other high-end brands.

If you are looking for the best your money can buy in this price range, I'd check out Sur La Table's house brand. It's $249 for 9 pieces when it goes on sale. If that's out of your budget, I'd go with Ikea's Favorit line -really good quality and costs less than this, once you buy the 7 piece basic set ($79) and add on the additional pieces. Tramontina at Walmart is better than this for about the same price.

Pro's: They are pretty.

Love this pizza pan.Had one of thesefor over 10 years and just wanted a newer one. They last forever.

All you have to do is put enough olive oil in it when you make the pizza and it slides right out.I slide it out onto another pan to cut the pizza, makes this pan stay new longer.

Good weight, heavier than my old one was.

I make pizza once a week, this pan is amazing, would not purchase any other brand or pan.Love it and would recommend it highly.

I've just had the skillet a few weeks, but so far it does everything you want a non-stick skillet to do: heats evenly, the non-stick works very well, and cleanup is a breeze...paper towel wipe followed by a hot water rinse, and the outside, which is raw aluminum has stayed surprisingly clean with minimal effort so far. The pan itself isn't expensive, but they always kill you with the shipping. Cheepies, where I got my skillet, is particularly good at nailing you with shipping charges. So I wound up paying a little more than I'd have liked, but I have no complaints with the skillet.

Emeril by All-Clad E9209964 Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan with Lid Cookware, Black

Emeril by All-Clad E9209964 Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Fry Pan with Lid Cookware, BlackThe Non-Stick pan is above average, but not as good as the Emeril Stainless steel pan. I figured it would be the same pan with an Anodized/non-stick coating on it, but I was mistaken. It does not heat as evenly around the pan as the stainless steel Emeril pan, nor is it as heavy duty. The non-stick portion is pretty good, but it will scratch VERY easily (just like any non-stick I think). However, it is a decent pan and far better than any generic/disposable pan you would get at Walmarts or Sears. I would say it is about the same quality as a mid-range Calphalon pan. Which is surprising, because this pan is actually made by All-Clad. For he price you can't go wrong. I certainly wouldn't pay over $40 for the pan though. If you are looking to pay more than that, I would recommend a Higher end Calaphalon or All-Clad pan.

In short, you would be hard pressed to find a better non-stick pan for $40 or less. However, you can get better quality if your willing to fork out the bucks. If you don't absolutely have to have non-stick surface, then get the Emeril Stainless steel pan (also around $35/$40). FAR better quality for the same price!!

First one showed up with broken glass lid. Second one arrived a week later.

I have used this about a month, I use it about 3 or 4 times a week.Coating is already showing signs of wear.My old cheapy 12 inch was a full 12 inches at the top edge, the inside was 10 and a quarter inches. This unit immediately curves in to 11 and a half inches where the lid sits, and is only about 8 and a half inches where the food sits. That's a chinzy design for a $40 skillet.I would not buy this again.

I have been using this fry pan ever since it arrived, and I like it very much.It cleans beautifully and cooks evenly. The only negative is that the handle does heat up if you are cooking a long time, so you have to be careful. But I am very satisfied nonetheless.

I was very excited to order this pan as it came highly recommended from these reviews, and the Emerilware line was highly recommended by a friend who is a professional chef.

So naturally I'm kinda underwhelmed and disappointed that out of the box the nonstick coating was worn down and even scratched along the rim of the pan (looks like damage from the metal lid being on the pot.

Returned that pan for a replacement in hopes that it was just a defect with that individual pan, but indeed I just opened my 2nd pan and although it's not as bad as the first pan, the coating is again worn down in places along the top portions. So if it arrives brand new this way I have no confidence that the coating will last for any reasonable amount of time.Sending this one back and looking at a different brand.

Old Mountain Pre Seasoned 10100 3 Piece Skillet Set, 6.5 Inch, 8 Inch, 10.5 Inch

Old Mountain Pre Seasoned 10100 3 Piece Skillet Set, 6.5 Inch, 8 Inch, 10.5 InchI do NOT recommend these pans. They were very pretty to look at (nice art work on the bottom) but not good for cooking. I bought them because I thought "Cast Iron" pans were all the same and the art work and price was a definite lure. Boy was I sorry! During their 1st use chips of iron kept flaking off into the food I was cooking. I'm sending them back immediately. Their appearance and price were good but the quality was not good. Their American competition, Lodge Logic, (and maybe who they are imitating) is MUCH higher in quality for not much more in price.

I am very pleased with these pans. They are heavy and durable made just like my grandmothers that she used to cook with when we went to visit.I also was impressed with the preseasoning. It made them very easy to use for the first time. This product is made to last a lifetime and so few things are made that well anymore. In fact, I just ordered the 5 quart deep frying pan with the lid and I am ordering the 4 quart dutch oven since these were so impressive.

Bought these for christmas for my daughter.I was very very disappointed when I noticed the box sez 'made in china'.Because it was too late to return I gave them to her anyway.I told her that I had found a recall on cast iron skillets that are made in china because due to the coating they use. It's a paint that comes off in the food. she elected to keep the skillets said she wasn't going to cook in them anyway. She's painting pictures in them for a craft show.Use caution when buying anything made in china if you're going to use it to cook or eat with.

Joyce Chen 21-9971, Classic Series 4-Piece Carbon-Steel Nonstick Wok Set

Joyce Chen 21-9971, Classic Series 4-Piece Carbon-Steel Nonstick Wok SetThis is the "4 pc. 14 in. Xylan Nonstick Wok Set" From the description on the Amazon product page I was expecting the "4 pc. 14" Carbon Steel Wok Set"

The pan looks nice, but has the handle problem others described. There is a metal component that goes through the wooden handle and screws into the part bolted onto the wok. That bolt is too long so if you hold the wooden handle the pan will spin upside down. Not a good thing to happen when cooking hot food!

I'll likely be returning this since a natural carbon steel wok is more authentic and cooks hotter and I don't feel like cutting down the bolt to get the handle to actually function properly.

Using a wooden spoonscratched on the 2nd use. I was browning cashews, so maybe that did it.I paid just 12 at Amazon warehouse, but still not worth it.

Update:Sis used the Seasoning recommended prior to use (I had reminded her of this from the Ebook Sample I downloaded). She had no cleaning nor sticking problems, just the food was too spicy for hubby and teenager.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I purchased this as part of a list my Sister gave me for Christmas.I went more by reviews than the price of the item.I also asked if she wanted one for the stove, or an electric plug in device.

Turns out this was THE PERFECT Wok.After purchasing some books (in particular Stir-Frying to the Sky's Edge previewed it first), a carbon steel wok is the best to cook with.I also wanted to introduce her to some e reading.

She enjoyed that there was more than just the Wok in her package.Since her Hubby was a little stingy (Scroogy?), she claimed this was her most favorite gift.

So far, this earns a 5 star review. She says I'm invited over sometime next week for Stir Fry after that if I need to edit the stars .... ;-)

PS for her hardcover tastes, and those beginning lessons I also included Wok Cooking Made Easy: Delicious Meals in Minutes (Learn to Cook Series)

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware Set

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware SetFor a good even heat, excellent quality of workmanship, and a dependable name, I can't think of anything better than All-Clad.For years, I used cheap cookware store non-stick skillets and hand-me-down pots and pans my mother used when she first got married. What a difference it makes.

Most cookware is way too thin, which leaves you with hotspots. For years, I would make up for this by using a cast iron "defuser" to even out the heat and keep the direct flame off the bottom of the pan.I don't have to do this any more. With the triple-layering, you get even heating, regardless of whether it's the middle of the pan or the outer edge.

Personally, I like the stainless.MC2 wasn't around when I bought mine, and I might have chosen that because of the low-maintanace exterior, but I'm not regretting it either.I don't have to be worrying about scratching through the coating with it and it cleans up easy enough with a little water and even less elbow grease.

Cooking will always be a chore, even if you enjoy the act in itself, if you never invest in good cookware and good knives. This is the first step on at least one of those. You might also wish to add a double-boiler, the steamer insert and a 1 qt. saucier; and maybe a larger stock pot (12 qt. if you can afford it), but this really lets you hit the ground running.

i've been using this set for over three years now, and have been very happy with it.

durability:no issues with handles coming loose, etc.almost all of the pans have remained even completely ding/dent free.my only complaint is that the bottom of one pan has domed slightly, so the pan does not lay completely flat on the burner, and heat distribution is affected.so while overall durability has been good, i'm knocking them down a point for this flaw.

cooking:these pans perform well.with the exception of the one mentioned above, all conduct heat evenly.no problem getting good crystalization of fats from meats, or browning vegetables in the oven.i think you definitely need a wider array of pans in your kitchen a nonstick and a cast iron are two i can think of right off the bat as well as some different types of metals for different applications.but this isn't something that you can hold against this product.just understand that this set won't cover ALL your pan needs.

cleaning:i've seen a lot of reviewers talk about how hard it is to clean these pans.it should be noted that pans are harder to clean, and stick more, if they're used less frequently.i think some of the issues people are having is because they're not using the pans frequently enough, or are not cooking foods at the proper temperatures.i've had no problems cleaning these pans.

pricing:aside from my issue with durability mentioned above, the is the only other area i feel detracts from this product.if the price is no object, or you can appreciate the cooking qualities of the pans and need something that looks good, i can see spending the money on this set.and i certianly wouldn't refuse it as a gift!however if you're on the fence about the price, and it's a financial stretch for you, i think you could put together a set of pans that will work just as well for much, much less.professional restaurant supply stores will sell pans that will work just as well as these for much less.they just won't be as pretty.so understand that you don't HAVE to spend this kind of money to get the same results.

so overall i'm happy with these pans.i'm disappointed one has warped slightly i should see if it's eligible for a replacement but aside from that they're great.

I bought this set back in January and must admit, it's gotten a lot of compliments from friends and neighbors. As with anything stainless steel, which is apparently all the rage these days, the look and feel (heavy!) of this cookware is impressive.

The most impressive thing I've noticed so far is the even temperature control throughout all of the pieces I purchased and have used so far.Even when boiling water, you can see at the bottom of the pot that the heat is being distributed evenly, which is a major downfall of most other cookware.

The first downside is that they are, in my experience, a PAIN to clean.Following the manufacturers recommendation to NOT put them in the dishwasher, I have washed them by hand after every use.I highly recommend washing them IMMEDIATELY after use to avoid having to spend a lot of time getting them clean.

The other downside is that I think these pots and pans will work much better on gas cooktops than on radiant cooktops.Fortunately, I'll have gas cooktops again in a few months, but really feel that buyers with radiant cooktops should test out a piece or two before commiting to the whole set.

Other than those two minor downsides, this is a "keep-for-life" set of pots and pans, and well worth the investment.Check out the rest of the All Clad stainless series for other great pieces (highly recommend the omelette pan to complete this set in particular).

This is my second set of All Clad. When I installed a Viking gas cooktop a year ago, I discovered why all the pros use All Clad....my thick-bottomed, thin-walled cookware couldn't take the heat and food burned on the sides rather than the bottom. My darling husband gave me a full set of MC2 and from that point on I was hooked.I have added several pieces via Amazon's great buys, both MC2 and stainless which I love.Mind you, my previous cookware was all non-stick so this was a challenge but once I figured out the proper way to cook I've had no problem with anything sticking and I hardly ever use any fat besides cooking sprays. It's so simple:preheat the cookware! It only takes a minute on medium heat then you can spray the pan and add your food and nothing sticks.Cleanup is a breeze and the stuff is so gorgeous I bought a stainless rack to display it.If you are serious about cooking, buy this set. It's a fantastic deal and it will last a lifetime.I'm betting some of you will even go on to buy a pro-type cooktop or stove after you start using All Clad. It's really true that the right cookware makes all the difference and this is the right stuff!

A chef who works the line in one of New York's best restaurants may tell you that your cookware won't really change the way you cook. That chef, however, may just be jealous you just bought one of the best investments you could ever make. Consider this. The computer you're reading this on probably cost more than 500 dollars. It willlast you, generously, 4 years. The set of All-Clad you just bought also cost more than 500 dollars. It will last you, conservatively, the rest of your life if you take care of it properly.

You can get the pro's and con's from a lot of other reviews and reading material, but I want to share one bit of advice that made the final choice for me. I did hours of online and print research before finally making a choice. I tried matching up individual pieces, compared sets v. non-sets, looked at what I really needed in closer detail, and, lastly, "agonized" between Calphalon and All-Clad.

Why did All-Clad stainless win? I love technology, especially stuff that makes our lives easier (like cleaning). So I was leaning pretty heavily toward Calphalon One for a while (it's even slightly cheaper). But then I came to a quick conclusion one night while eating at a Florentine's house: tried and true, stainless steel can make some incredibly good food. If you're in the market now, as you most likely are considering you're reading this (hopefully), then maybe, like me, you'll think to yourself, maybe I should wait a while for this "One" concept to see how well it lasts. All-Clad will last me my life. Proof positive. And I won't have to be sending any of it in the mail (hopefully).

It wasn't an easy choice, but after just about 5 meals I've cooked in them, my friends are already smiling (and my roommates are incredibly happy). The cleanup (which is what really racked my conscience for a while. I am a college kid at heart who hates to do dishes) is, in all honesty, not AS easy as non-stick, but after a little soaking in soapy water and with the magic of Bar Keeper's Friend, well, done done and doner.

While this may be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase for you, beware, the pans are infectious.

Hotel Line Non-Stick Pancake Pan

Hotel Line Non-Stick Pancake PanBought mine at a Berghoff Outlet neat Tampa Fl. in Odessa.Got to looking here just in case I ever need to replace it.Works exceptionally well on any heat source but usually use it on my induction burner where it heats almost instantly and I have better temperature control.

I make crepes frequently for breakfast, dinner and desert and this pan cooks them all perfectly.I think the best complement I can give to a crepe pan is that it cooks even the first crepe perfectly, every time. The heat is even, very quickly controllable and recovery after adding the batter is almost instant.I've used various pans over the years but this is the only crepe pan on my pot-rack now, the others are all recycled to children and friends.

I've had this pan about 6 years now and its still in absolutely pristine condition and cooks as good today as the first time I tried it.The non-stick coating, while carefully maintained, is still in perfect condition, for a pan that has been in use for 6 years. I wish my All-Clad coatings held up held up as well.

Needless to say, I highly recommend this product to anyone who likes crepes but it goes beyond that... I find it superb for omelets, scrambled eggs and eggs over-easy (although Its rather large for those).I often use it to cook my entire breakfast as I did today, strawberry crepes topped with homemade yogurt and over easy eggs.My highest recomendation, you'll be happy if you know how to make crepes or want to learn and not blame the pan for your failures.

Eco Life 12-Inch Fry Pan

Eco Life 12-Inch Fry PanI have been using the same non-stick Teflon-coated pan for about 4 years now and its coating has held up with no problems; the only thing that has been a problem is the base of the pan has warped slightly to the point that the center of the pan is noticeably higher than the sides. For most things this isn't a problem and you hardly notice it, except when you fry an egg... then it is full of failure. After being annoyed with fried eggs that were not circular and didn't fit on a sandwich correctly I decided that it was time to look for a new frying pan.

For the price and features I decided on this pan. The things that I liked about it was that it is a thick pan it is not made of foil (I was able to purchase this in a local store). This pan doesn't make any claims about being heavy duty, commercial or of professional grade, and I don't think that it is, but it comes extraordinarily close to it. I also like the stainless steel handle on it none of that plastic or rubber coating to melt off, just the handle secured by two rivets.

The final thing that I was looking for in a frying pan was the type of coating. There are a few new coatings on the market right now in an effort to move away from Teflon. People have problems with Teflon breaking down after a period of time for various reasons and the the pan is useless for the most part when it does start to flake off and become non-existent. This frying pan boasts that it is made in an environmentally safe manor and that there are no chemicals used in or on it that are traditionally used during the manufacturing of a Teflon-coated frying pan. Frankly, all I am looking for in a non-stick frying pan in how well it preforms and and I am not really interested in the details of what makes it safe for the environment. I am, nonetheless, interested in the non-stick coating that is used here a ceramic coating. From what I hear from people ceramic is that best coating for pans; you can use metal utensils on it without damaging it, you can heat it up on the stove top and let it sit there without the coating boiling off and you can put it in the broiler with out much worry also.

I tested this pan out in a practical exercise by preforming tasks that I could either not do at all with my current pan because of its age or dared not try due to the materials used in construction. The first thing I did was put the electric burner on my stove to the maximum setting and let the pan sit on it for about five minutes while I prepared a pot roast to be seared. There was no smoking and no strange smells during this period. After I seasoned the roast I the roast in the pan and commenced with my searing I received perfect results with a teaspoon of oil. There was some seasoning left on the pan after I removed the roast and I decided to play with it while the heat was still on to see how much it was sticking to the pans surface. To my surprise it didn't stick much at all, all of it just slid around the pan without any issues. I poured a cup of water in the pan and let it boil while I put the pot roast in the slow cooker. I poured the water out and I noticed that there was some stains left behind on the coating of the pan. I took a nylon brush to it and my fingernail and it wouldn't come off. I let the pan cool off completely and it still didn't come off. I decided to also perform a test involving an egg. Heated the pan on the burner to about 65% power and let it stay there for about five minutes again, no odors and no smoke, and the coating was still intact. I cracked an egg right in the center of it and it just stayed there in a nice uniform circle without running to one edge of the pan. I let it cook for an appropriate time until it was ready to flip for an over-easy style egg. I used a metal spatula to flip it and didn't have too many issues. The egg wanted to stick to the spatula more than it wanted to stick to the pan. It did take a little coaxing to get the egg off the pan but not much, and once I did there was no part of the egg left on the surface. I cooked the egg to what I consider near perfection for an over-easy style egg without one drop of oil, butter, or cooking spray. I rinsed the pan off and that was it. The small black spots are still there from searing the roast but don't appear to compromise the non-stick coating.

Based on this frying pans performance I can recommend it without reservation. It performs better than any Teflon-coated frying pan I have ever used and because of its construction and materials used for construction I believe that it will be more versatile than a traditional Teflon-coated non-stick frying pan.

Bought this pan to replace one that wasn't so eco-friendly.Was sceptical, but I've had it for more than a year and it still looks brand new.I haven't had anything stick or any trouble cleaning it.I'm considering buying some more in various sizes.

It sticks to everything i cook unless i put A LOT of oil... I really dont know why. Actually it sticks even i use a lot of oil.Pretty dissatisfying, but luckily i have other pans to use. Maybe i'm not taking care it correctly..... :(

Bought this approximately 6 months ago. Totally non-stick, contrary to other reviewer. Eggs clean off wonderfully. I've never seen a pan perform like this actually. It's as if the egg temporarily gets stuck (as on a stainless steel or cast iron), then after you have walked away for a bit (say after you eat your egg) and the pan has cooled a bit or something, the egg has flaked and lifted off of the pan. The first time I cooked an egg on it, I was rather upset (as the other reviewer who gave the product a 1 star), but then I went to clean it getting ready to scrub and scrape and the egg came off with minimal effort from a dish rag and warm water...

I typically don't write reviews, but to give this pan a 1 star rating is a great injustice and I thought I'd offset the score so that more people may buy this pan and I'll see more pans like these pans in the store.

Love this pan, I've cooked some awfully nasty stuff on it that cleans off easily. For me, it easily outperforms Teflon with the added benefit of it not being as dangerous as teflon. The coating also hasn't scratched or flaked like teflon pans typically do. Hands down a better non-stick choice than teflon.

Want Eco Life 12-Inch Fry Pan Discount?

I purchased this pan in the hopes of finding something that was safer, stronger, and at least as non-stick as teflon. This is not that product.

The coating on the pan does handle high temperatures, I have seared steaks in the pan without too much of a problem...until it comes time for the cleanup. My old teflon pan can be wiped out, this pan requires almost as much scrubbing as some ancient bare-aluminum camp cookware I used to own!

The ultimate test of non-stick cookware is eggs and this product fails miserably.I generally have to use MORE oil than I do in a stainless steel pan (which has no non-stick coating!).I routinely used approximately a teaspoon of oil in my old non-stick pan to help eggs release, the stainless steel pan requires a tablespoon, this pan requires 3-4 tablespoons of oil or the eggs will stick on like epoxy.

I'm going back to cast iron and stainless steel.

Presto 07046 Tilt 'n Drain Big Griddle Cool-Touch Electric Griddle

Presto 07046 Tilt 'n Drain Big Griddle Cool-Touch Electric GriddleI love making pancakes. In the past I would use two large cast-iron skillets for the task. I found myself constantly adjusting my burner temperature and I would always get a few very dark (or burnt) or a few undercooked pancakes out of each batch. Plus I could only cook two pancakes at a time; one in the center of each skillet (I like making large, perfectly round, 5-6" diameter pancakes.)

After much research, I finally broke down and bought the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle because I liked the enormous cooking area it offered. And I liked the fact that is was made of heavy cast aluminum and that it sat perfectly level (some griddles have sloped cooking decks to allow grease and juices to run away from the foods... NOT desirable when making pancakes or scrambled eggs.) And I liked how the griddle can be quickly adjusted so that it WILL tilt forward which *does* allow grease to run away when you want it to! (it has a grease channel and catch-tray along the front edge of the unit.)

My first impressions with this unit:

It's huge! 18.5" x 15" cooking area.

It heats evenly. My infrared (IR) non-contact thermometer gun showed very little temperature variation across the cooking surface once it was fully heated (I let the thermostat cycle several times -about 10 minutes -before I took my readings.) My pancakes verified this finding with each one being equally browned.

The thermostat is accurate. I set the unit to 350-degrees F., and it heated to 350-degrees F. as verified by my IR thermometer gun.

The raised lip around the sides and back of the unit is high enough to contain pancake batter and keep it from spilling over and is low enough to be completely unobtrusive.

After un-boxing the unit, I cleaned, plugged, and turned on the unit (set for 350-degrees F.) After a 10 minute warm up, I applied my pancake batter. As noted earlier, in the past I was only able to make two pancakes at a time using two separate skillets. The Presto griddle allowed me to cook 6 (yes, SIX!!) of my large pancakes at the same time. All six pancakes browned evenly with no hot or cold spots seen. Flipping the pancakes was a breeze and I used no oil on the non-stick surface.

I made two batches of pancakes, one batch after the other, and both turned out exactly the same... and that was "perfectly." I made a two batches of pancakes (12 pancakes total) in the same amount of time it took to make 4 in the past. For the first time my whole family ate pancakes together at the same time!!

So, in summary, the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle is well designed, easy to use, heats accurately and evenly, and has a very large cooking surface. Clean-up was quick and easy. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs a large griddle that cooks accurately and evenly.

NOTE: Regarding a few other reviews here, I don't see how anyone can rate this product 2 or 3 stars, faulting the unit because it's too large to store. I mean, come on!! It's a big griddle by DESIGN!! If it's too large for you, then you should have bought a smaller griddle! ;-)

I bought this griddle over a year ago.I love it.I can cook an entire pack of bacon all at one time, six large pancakes, or four plate size pancakes, 12 pieces of french toast, you get the picture. As far as I know, the largest griddle available.I use frequently, have had no problems of any kind, including the non-stick surface which shows no sign of wear. This is a big improvement over griddles and other non-stick cookware I've owned before.Yes, it does have hot and cold spots, IF you don't let it pre-heat adequately. It's big, give it 10-15 minutes to pre-heat.Yes, you have to get creative to find a suitable storage space.I fortunately have a perfect cabinet (tall, deep and narrow) in my kitchen, although if I didn't I'd probably have to use the broom closet, coat closet, or some other unusual space. It is also a handful when washing at the sink, since it's too big to fit in the sink. However, it's hard to knock it for being too big when that's the whole idea.If you want something easier to store and wash, you'll be cooking longer and in batches. If you have a houseful of kids, you'll love this griddle.Put it under your bed if you have to.

I purchased this griddle because the electric frypan we had was simply too small. While trying to flip a few pancakes in it, half of it didn't stay in!!The first thing I cooked with this griddle was therefore pancakes.Instead of the 4 batches it used to take, I did it in 1.Flipping the pancakes was mess-free and effortless with the nonstick surface.I have since tried eggs and also bacon.I love the tilt function with the grease trap.It definitely helps keep splattering down. The one thing you will need is space to use it as well as store it.I set it on our stovetop while in use, which works for me.

Highly Recommend this product.

The griddle has exceeded my expectations. I put it to hard use, for catered events at places without a kitchen (I know it's for "home use") and it is flawless, or nearly so. It does have that cheesy home construction, and the pull-out sides for fat draining purposes are not lock-able, but I expected those little flaws--as a light-weight large griddle, it is super. No hot spot/cold spot issues, plenty of space, i can actually do 2 things at once on it for hors d'oeuvres presentation. It saved me during the holidays. It's inexpensive enough that if I wear it out, i can get another one. Does double-duty at home, too for pancakes for the family crowd. I can make twice as many as on the stove top griddle I have. It's easy to clean, easy to use--a well thought-out product. I'd purchase it again without a second thought. There is no commercial-use product that can beat it that I've found, either.

Paula Deen Non-Stick Stainless Steel Skillets

Paula Deen Signature Stainless Steel Nonstick 10-Inch SkilletI recently purchased this skillet and was surprised to find that each time it gets hot (just past medium) the bottom of the pan warps. It rocks badly on my glass top stove. Then when it cools, it goes back to flat.More annoying than anything as things seem to cook just fine.

This is the best 12 in skillet on the market. The copper bottom spreads the heat evenly.Everthing made in this turned out perfect.I've tried many other 12" skillets on the market and this is by far better than all.ShopKo in town lists the cost a $80.00....bought it at $40.00 on sale. You won't go wrong with it.If the copper did seperate...save your receipt for a new one. Also bought the 10" skillet...just as good as the 12".The non-stick surface seems to be very durable.

This is a superb skillet. The non-stick cooking area is extremely smooth, which makes it a joy to cook with and very easy to clean. The copper bottom distributes heat evenly to the entire cooking surface. It is rather deep for a 10 inch skillet which makes grease splatter less bothersome.I now own 2 Paula Deen skillets, this one and a 12 inch as well. They are my two favorite skillets. They are well made and have enough weight that keeps them in place on the stove. The handle does not transmit heat and has a good grip for texture and shape.I will keep an eye out for other Paula Deen signature cookware, these are the best skillets in my kitchen.

I have this skillet. It's the only one I will use now, I have 3 other 12" skillets in the cabinet. It's non-stick surface is awesome. The copper bottom spreads the heat evenly throughout the pan. My son has used this skillet and wants one for himself. I wonder if he'd like it for his B-day?

Purchased one of these for the wifey for X-mas two years ago.Daughter completely trashed the teflon surface with a metal utensil.OK,I understand that this is a user problem and not a product failure.Purshased another LAST Christmas to replace.Wife loved this pan.Easy to use, even heating from the thicker "copper" bottom, easy cleanup, etc....We now have absolutely NO metal utensils available to use in any of our cooking pans now.Found that the teflon surface was VERY soft anyway and can even be seriously damaged by PLASTIC utensils! The wife started complaining about the darned thing warping like heck when heat was applied to the pan.Starting out with eggs for omelettes, the pan starts fine, but then you get a CIRCLE instead of a flat "crepe" to try to turn into an omelette!!I measured the now PERMANENT 1/8" 3/16" warpage with a straightedge on a cold pan that now grows to 1/4" when the pan heats up.This is NOT, repeat NOT!! the type of quality I would expect for the price I paid and will probably NEVER purchase a Paula Deen cooking utensil ever again.Same exact problems with the Paula Deen cookware set that she got along with this pan last X-mas.

Danish Ebelskiver / Filled Pancake Pan - Cast Aluminum

Danish Ebelskiver / Filled Pancake Pan - Cast AluminumAfter getting a 7-hole ebelskiver while staying in my sister-in-law, I fell in love with the ebelskiver concept. I needed a smaller one to fit my luggage and I got this one with 5 holes. It's excellent. It does not stick (I always spray oil before the first round of ebelskivers) and it's actually easier to work with because you'll be managing 5 instead of 7 at once.

12" Induction Hotplate with Skillet and Electronic Display

12' Induction Hotplate with Skillet and Electronic DisplayDo Not Buy! production defect as of Oct 8,2009.

I ordered this hotplate due to some good reviews in another website.

This product had a deep scratch on the cooking surface. The glass cut the person opening it. I returned it for replacement. Provantage is very fast and I got the replacement quickly. Unfortunately the replacement also has a deep scratch on the glass surface. There is nothing wrong with the box and plastic bag. This indicates that the product was damaged before being packaged. The packer must be blind. I'm going to stay away from Avanti products.

Better faster cookware for you all. This is a great breakthrough in cooking. BUT THROW THE FREE ALUMINUM POT AWAY, that you get with the unit. No aluminum should be used in cooking, VERY TOXIC (the French & Chinese are trying to kill you) just kidding! The Avanti IHP 1501 is better than sliced bread. You now have control over the temperature and time while cooking. You should all know everything over 115° will kill off enzymes in food. Enzymes are what is necessary for complete and proper digestion to occur. This is why vegans have a heads-up on life, but raw is better and juicing the way to go. However as a recovering carnivore I would recommend this unit it comes with manufacture presets of160/230/290/340/400°this is fine but a temp of 105 would be even better because of the above reason. Through the use of inductive cooking makes this puppy cook fast. Read about inductive cooking yourself because it is safe but be sure you pay intention to what you are cooking in. You can boil water in 2 to 4 minutes based on volume. For folks like myself with a short attention span it has a timer with auto turn off, a must for seniors who burn pots. With control of time and temperature you can wip-up your most tantalizing culinary delight in record time and dump that microwave it is alternating the molecular structure of food.Research how the Nazi heated food for the troops and why it was banned. Also try growing something in water that has been in the microwave.

With this unit you can cook on it and put a paper towel under it and not burn it (unless you are a liberal).Should not be tried by the person who wrote the previous review, just toooo stupid. Anyway AMAZON is a great company and isgreat at shipping and returns. I shop there as much as possible because of this and they often have the best prices and I give them a HOO-RA for dealing with the public so mercifully. Back to the Avanti IHP 1501. My father burned so may of my pots I had to find another way. I got him one of these and after some repeated instructions he did not burn the house down and I could let him cook his own food. You got to be there to appreciate that one. People who understand the importance of temperatures in cooking will appreciate this. For those of you who will try the no flame feature on your children's hands PLEASE DON'T write me. For those liberals and radical vegans who voted for Obama try it on yourself first. Oh didI tell you it also tell you that it saves you money in food preparation, gas vs electrical heating and a whole lot of time at the stove. Get informed look it up yourself! Oh and grammar and punctuation women (retired school Nazi)who are inclined to edit this copy and not laugh. Please do not write, I am out of school and not going back and don't care any more.
