16 inch Traditional Cast Iron Wok (incl. ring)

16 inch Traditional Cast Iron WokHi. I read the previous review and just wanted to put in a correction and a FYI so people don't think these cast iron cooking utensils are defective. I cook alot with cast iron and have bought new cast iron cookware from the US and China. When a cast iron cooking vessel is brand new and hasn't been "seasoned" by the manufacturer (like Lodge does for some of their skillets and such), it is covered with a thin film of machine oil to prevent rust and corrosion in transit. This is what needs to be washed off before use. Non-seasoned cast iron is a very gray colorindeed, almost looking painted gray if you're expecting it to look black. It will not develop the black patina until you start cooking with it. It is essentially baked on oil that turns the iron black. The best way is to season your new pan is to coat the whole (dry) pan inside and out with vegetable oil and put it in the oven to bake. A very thorough explanation of the seasoning process is given at the Lodge Manufacturing website: www.lodgemfg.com When you're done cooking with your cast iron, scrub it out with hot water only, and then put it on the stove-top to dry. Re-apply a bit of oil as needed. Iron rusts without this protection to moisture from washing or in the air. Cast iron does take a bit of maintenance, but is a superior and very safe cooking surface. Enjoy.

I was disappointed when I hold this item in my hand.

This cast iron wok is not the same as those Lodge cast iron wok you have seen. It's much thinner, and if you hold the two handles (which are really small) and push towards the middle, you can bend the wok (try bend a Lodge skillet instead).

Thinner wok does have its advantage you might say, as it encourages faster heat distribution. However, the thinness of this wok has gotten to a point that it makes me uncomfortable using it (I actually think I can break this wok but knocking my spatula on the side of the wok a habit that doesn't bother any other wok I have. Why I do that? Have you ever knocked your tong on the rim of a pan? Not to mention I can even bend this wok. Remember, this is NOT a carbon steel wok). This is just not the same wok I used to use in China.

The one that I used in China for 10 years is also a cast iron wok. Its shape is similar to the above item, but the cast iron material is different. The old wok I had is heavier (but not as heavy as Lodge's) and not flexible. The old wok is built with the same material as Lodge's but not as thick as Lodge's. Therefore, it holds heat better than the one above, and still doesn't require extensive preheating time as Lodge's.

I bought this item with expectation that this item will be the same as the old wok but it's not. I might accept the claim that this wok is 'authentic' wok that is popular in the countryside of China (where wok sits on a big brick oven and gets fueled by the fire below, like a chimney). But, do you have this setup at home? The label of this item does read "traditional" Chinese wok, I guess I should have red it more carefully.

The wok is not cheap either. $30 total if you don't live in CA, and the shop will charge you a 15% restocking fee if you return it (that's after you pay another $8 to ship it back). If you bought it, you bought it.

I guess if you want a cast iron wok as light as a carbon steel one, then you might consider this wok. But the price doesn't seem to justify its advantage. And I personally will feel much comfortable knocking the wok with my spatula in a carbon steel one.

Finally, I will say this wok is suitable for those who have high BTU burner at home and have a nostalgia feeling about countryside wok as well. If you are not one of them, there are better choices.

Ah, the wok ring. It is too big to fit in my stove top grate slot. My stove is a standard 4 burners (with one "power burner", one "simmer burner" and two "all purpose burner") stand alone stove. I bet you will have the same problem if you have a standard stove top. But you can use the wok ring even it doesn't fit into the slot well(it will wobble). One thing I noticed is that the wok ring prevents the air flow, therefore, the flame is somehow "flowing and dancing" outside of the wok ring and next to the side of the wok. The flame looks light, fluffy, and not substantial. If I remove the wok ring, the flame goes back to normal straightforward and strong. I don't think I will use this wok ring. Instead, I will go with a wok ring that is made with stainless wire that I saw in Chinatown. The wired version (made entirely by wire) should not have problem with the air flow.

Like others, I did receive a complimentary wok spatula and two pairs of chopsticks within the package.

To the previous reviewer with the "gray paint" problem on the unseasoned iron wok, that grayish "paint" is either a coat of oil or wax. The film of oil or wax is used to protect an unseasoned cast iron product from rusting. Follow the following instructions, and your wok will be seasoned and ready for use.

As long as the wok is not repeatedly dropped from a high enough place, it should be at your service for a long, long time. This wok is a much easier piece to handle than a regular cast iron skillet (Lodge Logic's 12" cast iron skillet weights 8.5 lb.; and the 10 1/4" cast iron skillet weights 5.8 lb.) If you have a dome lid to go with your wok, you can also steam (deep-fry, braise, or make soup) quite a good amount of food in the wok. Just try not to leave the tomato based food in the pan too long--acidic products tend to break down the seasoning. By the way, if a cast iron product does rust, just scrub away the rust, then re-season.

(Tip: Don't own a steamer? No problem, simply add enough water, place 2 sturdy wooden chop-sticks {with some distance apart}in the wok, set a plate on top of the chop-sticks, then follow the usual steaming procedures. Make sure that your wok is big enough/plate is small enough, so that the plate's edge/food does not touch the wok and that the hot plate can be easily/safely removed from the wok.)

Try either one of the following instructions to season a new wok:

A. Place the new wok over high heat to blacken the inside--this burns off any dust and factory coating (remember to turn the fan on). Leave the wok to cool, then immerse it in hot, soapy water and clean it with an abrasive pad or stiff brush. Rinse it well and dry over a medium heat. Rub a little cooking oil all over the surface of the wok. Now the wok is ready for use.

After each use, clean the wok with hot water only, dry it over a medium heat, and wipe a thin layer of oil over the surface. This will ensure that it doesn't get rusty. The wok will acquire a dark and glossy seasoned look over time. This method seasons the wok over time (the non-stick quality is slowly added), and it is best suited for woks used mainly for the quickly-cooked Chinese dishes (at least initially, before the non-stick quality is established).

B. Instructions for Seasoning and Caring for Your Iron Cookware--Season the cast iron product either on the grill or in a gas or electric oven. Best results are achieved by using a gas or electric oven. Proper seasoning requires several steps. Once completed you will experience years of use.

General Seasoning Instructions:

1.Wash cookware with hot soapy water and scrub with a scouring pad to remove the protective coating prior to seasoning.

2.Rinse and dry thoroughly.

3.Use vegetable oil (not butter or olive oil; shortening is the best).

Seasoning in an Oven:

Line the lower rack or bottom of the oven with aluminum foil (to catch the drippings), then preheat your oven to 350F degrees. Apply a thin, even coat of oil onto the entire cast iron surface. Do not use too much oil. Place unit in the oven for one hour. Using an oven mitt, either allow the unit to cool in the oven or remove it from the oven and let cool. When cool, wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel. The surface should be shiny but not sticky.

Seasoning on a Grill:

Follow same instruction as above then place the unit on a preheated barbecue. Cover the grill and heat for one hour. Continue with above instructions.

Care/Cleaning/Storage:

To keep your cast iron properly seasoned, do not wash in a dishwasher or use detergents, which will remove the seasoning. Instead, pour some very hot water into the wok, soak it for several minutes and scrub with a plastic scouring pad or nylon brush (if the mess is not too bad, scrub with a plastic scouring pad or nylon brush directly under hot running water). Dry thoroughly right away to prevent rusting. Apply a thin coat of oil prior to storing. With repeated seasoning and use, the natural patina will develop and it may no longer be necessary to oil the pan prior to storage. Always store cast iron products in a dry place.

There are a lot of really bad woks out there but this wok is great!!! This thin cast iron wok is made as a cast iron wok should be made. The heavy woks made by Lodge and other western manufacturers are much too thick to use properly. Stir frying is very fast and requires rapid temperature changes. A heavy cast iron wok cannot cool down rapidly when you turn down the flame and it takes forever to heat up. You might as well be trying to cook with a wok on an electric stove. You heat your wok to one temperature in a heavy cast iron wok and your are stuck with it for awhile. I've used both and this is far superior.

If you want more info on wok cooking read "The Key to Chinese Cooking" and "The Breath of a Wok" and the really wonderful cooking blog "Tigers and Strawberries."

I shopped online for a cast iron wok for a long time. When I found this one on Amazon I read all the reviews and became thoroughly confused. So I emailed The Wok Shop with my questions and received a quick reply. They answered all my questions and highly recommended the wok and suggested I try the wok for myself. They also emailed me a link to an illustrated website that explained how these particular woks are made and still being made by the same process in Guangdong, China since the mid 1800s. I found it very interesting and on my next trip to San Francisco I visited The Wok Shop and inspected the woks myself. The surface is not smooth like the old Wagner/Griswold cast iron skillets nor is it sandpapery like the Lodges. It's also much lighter in weight than the cast iron skillets, flexible but still very sturdy. The pattern in the cast is also very interesting, a combination of cracks and brushstrokes much like an old painting. I bought one and brought it home. I sanded and scrubbed it down to remove the grey finish and seasoned it several times in the oven until it developed the shiney black finish. The cracks/brushstroke pattern is still visible through the seasoning, its just beautiful. I have now cooked with it a number of times and I just love it. I would recommend this wok to all my friends. I had a friend over for dinner last week and she commented on how beautiful and interesting my wok was. Only time can test the durability of this wok but I think this wok is quickly on it's way to becoming a family heirloom.

Earth Pan 10-Piece Hard Anodized Cookware Set

Earth Pan 10-Piece Hard Anodized Cookware SetMy wife and I have spent a lot of money in our life time buying pots and pans. Some even claims "life Time Warranty" and cost triple the price, but nothing last a life time, not even close. When it was time to purchase another set, I did a lot of research (for days). Consumers Report, Amazon.com, etc. Earth Pan received very good reviews over all and it was safe (no PTFEs or PFOAs)we have young children.

The first few days, everything was fine. We read the instructions twice to make sure we followed everything to the letter.

Cons:

1. Non-stick: It still sticks, and depends on what you are cooking, cleaning up afterwards could still be time consuming.

2. Stainless steel handles gets very hot, so be careful, or get the plastic/rubber handle set.

3. Somehow when you get stains on the outside of the pots or pans, NO WAY of cleaning it off. I have research the internet and tried everything, and the stains are still there.

4. Like many other complaints about this set, yes, the pots are too small for everyday use. I agreed.

Pro:

1. Earth pan is well made and attractive.

2. Price is right.

If oneday the non-stick coating comes off (and they will, like all the other non sticks cookwares we ever own), I don't have to worry about harmful chemicals getting into our bodies (espically our kid's).

Update: 11/30/09

These pans are just as bad as the others. It sticks really bad after 3 months. I am so disappointed! Days of research and the "Consumers Report Rating" has not provided me with any satisfactions. Don't buy this. Really.

My husband is very cautious to read reviews before making 'major' purchases. He was very impressed with the reviews and the eco-friendly aspect of these pans therefore he bought the set for me for Christmas (on my request for new pans).I absolutely loved these at first.I made sure everyone in the hhouse knew how they were to be used and cared for so we could keep them like new as long as possible.About 6 months into owning them, one pan got ruined i think my teen-aged son sprayed cooking spray in it.There was absolutely nothing i could do to get it clean and have things not stick. Now its about 1 year later and the pan i use the most is sticking horribly.I am very dissappointed in these pans and hope that anyone who buys them doesnt get their expectations up too high.We are going with cast iron...tried and true easier to maintain, clean and more durable.

My inlaws got these for us because Consumer Reports gave them an excellent rating. We liked the weight and overall quality, and loved the fact that they were made without hazardous chemicals. However, after less than 1 month of proper use, the smallest fry pan had lost its nonstick quality and the next size up was wearing too.We returned the pans and got the similarly priced Rachel Ray set instead. It's been 6 months and the Rachel Ray pans are still in perfect condition.

We purchased these after a great deal of research. The pans arrived quickly and were packaged well. They are heavy and seem well-made. As for appearance they are very nice. The handles seem solid and the lids are tight fitting and heavy. I've read complaints about the pans being too heavy, but that's not something I feel is a bad thing. The non-stick coating works very well. Eggs, sauces, even oatmeal has not been a problem at all. I have not had any problems with denting or problems with the coating (although we follow directions quite closely, lest we ruin something because of our ineptitude). The conduct heat very well and you need to use a lower heat setting because of this. The use of vegetable oil is not recommended, so we haven't used it! My only problem with the set (and it was my own fault for not thinking) is the size of the saute pans. They are perfect for two, perhaps three people. But in our family of 4 they tend to be a bit small. The sizes were clearly stated and I should have paid more attention to them. The 8 qt stockpot is wonderful though and like the other saucepans tapers in towards the middle slightly which makes emptying them much easier. For an experienced chef these would probably not suffice, (but what chef would use non-stick?!?) but for home-style cooking with easy clean-up and an affordable price I don't really think you could go wrong with these.

I purchased this product after reading positive reviews on Consumer Reports. The set showed up in looked beautiful (hence the 1 star). As for cooking with it, that is another matter.

EVERYTHING sticks to this cookware(except water). No matter what is applied to the surface, whether it be PAM, olive oil, peanut oil, what ever, the eggs, mac and cheese, rice, oatmeal, vegetables, ground beef, (I did say everything) sticks and then burns to the bottom.

We cook a lot at my home.Every day.And now each of these pans can only be used 2 or maybe three times a week as they have to soak for over a day to loosen the burnt material!

I have owned this cook ware for 6 months and now my options are simple.Live with this terrible product or call it quites and spend another $100+ bucks on something else.I am getting sick of hearing it from my family that also uses this product.

I would highly recommend looking at another product unless scraping burnt material off new cookware(all night long) is a celebrated hobby.

Cuisinox Electra Induction 11 Inch Non-stick Crepe pan

Cuisinox Electra Induction 11 Inch Non-stick Crepe panI like this pan in that it is very easy to make crapes because no sides.Just trying to move the batter around by rotating the pan does not work well. You have to usethe wood T-Shaped Crape Spreader too.It works on an induction element so that is why I purchased it.What I don't like about it is that it is very slippery on the element and hard to hold and turn the crape at the same time. It's going to take practice I can see. It's a nice size.I also use it for heating up tortillas or making melted cheese sandwiches. It works well as a grill.

The most annoying thing about this pan is that the diameter of the surface that contacts the stove is only about 9" so that the outer 1" ring of the cooking surface does not get as hot as the center of the pan. Is that what a "Crepe Pan" is supposed to do? If so I got the wrong pan. I bought it as my one teflon coated pan to use on my induction cook top so I could make eggs and a pancakes thinking it would act like a griddle.

The teflon scratched almost the first day and I don't remember any reason why it should have, although it hasn't scratched any more over the next ten or so times I've used it.

George Foreman GRV80 Contemporary Grill with Extended Handle

George Foreman GRV80 Contemporary Grill with Extended HandleThis is my fifth George Foreman grill. It is the largest I've purchased over the years. I use the grill several times a week. It heats well and food grills uniformly. I find this particular model to be easy to use and it has held up better than the cheaper models. My biggest issue with all of the grills I've purchased is the cleaning. The plates don't come off, so you have to be careful when washing them so that you don't get water where it shouldn't go. The grills are made well, so it is pretty hard to get water inside the apparatus, but it is still a bit of a chore to scrub. Highly recommended if you want something that will quickly grill a juicy piece of chicken, vegetables and more.

I just got my george foreman contemporary grill today! On the picture it looks white but its really silver. I've already cooked chicken, shrimp, salmon, corn on the cob, and a quesadilla. It's awesome! Soo much fun! Cooking surface is 80 sq inches and it's small enough to fit on our kitchen counter without looking too bulky but big enough to cook for me, my wife, and my 5 year old son. I tend to over cook my food because i haven't gotten used to it cooking soo fast but I'm starting to figure it out. I think I'm going to start preparing my food in the morning (marinating meats, cutting vegetables and whatnot) to cut down cooking time even more! Cleaning is simple enough...just wipe down the hot grill with a sponge and dry off with a kitchen towel. Me and My wife are on a diet so this grill is going to make it easier to keep us on track! Highly recommended to anyone!

I've had my George Foreman GRV80 for six months and am completely satisfied with it. I use it at least five times a week for my family. I make everything from fish sticks to pizza on it! It only has one setting (very hot) so I'm limited to what I can make.As a "starter" grill I think this one is great. The nonstick surface makes clean up easy. If you want to do more things with your grill (i.e., make pancakes, cookies and waffles) then I would look into getting a grill with interchangeable plates. I also like the sloped grill so all of the fat drips away from the food. Today I made bacon and was amazed to see how much fat was in the drip pan! Another great feature is the large cooking surface. It's plenty big to make hamburgers for 4-6 people and two paninis at the same time. For the money you can't beat it.

Rachael Ray Cast Iron 12-Inch Skillet with Helper Handle and 2 Pour Spouts, Orange

Rachael Ray Cast Iron 12-Inch Skillet with Helper Handle and 2 Pour Spouts, OrangeThis Rachael Ray cast iron 12" skillet with helper handle and pour spouts is slightly different than another version with silicone handles which this one doesn't have. But this model can go up to 500F in the oven where the other only did 450F. This may be the new release as the other has been unavailable for over a year. Our family will use this skillet for years to come so get it while it's here.

PS. It is a black interior as pictured not as described in white.

I had high hopes for this pan. However, a number of items contributed to my ultimate disappointment:

1. After receiving it, I read in the instructions that one should not use of the pan on a glass stove top. The reason is because it is assumed that moving it around on the burner will scratch the glass. While you might think this would be obvious, I did not see this warning anywhere in the listing and I have another cast iron pan that I've used for months on my stove top without any problems. No biggie. I decided to try it anyway and just refrain from moving the pan laterally on the stove top.

2. Immediately after setting the pan on my glass stove top (which was off), I noticed why it was probably not recommended. The pan is warped and would not lay flat. I probably wouldn't have noticed this on a 1960s style electric range.

3. At this point, I proceeded to cook a couple of garden burgers in it. I used a little bit of oil in case the "non stick" interior was insufficient. (Fair warning: this is not Teflon, but some other coating or maybe just a polished finish.) At the end, I turned the heat off (which was never above medium) and placed a lid I have on the pan so the cheese on the burgers would melt. The perfectly circular lid did not fit because at least one of the axes on the pan is somewhat eccentric. So I tried another perfectly circular lid and it suffered the same problem. Both of these lids tightly fit all the other pans I have with the same diameter.

4. Not wanting to ruin the finish, I soaked the pan for a few minutes per the instructions, then tried to wipe the garden burger, cheese, and a little BBQ sauce off the pan. Recall I used probably a tablespoon of oil for the two garden burgers. No amount of scrubbing with a sponge would remove the residue. After it dried, I managed to chip most of it off with a fingernail, but this is not something I would be willing to do on a regular basis.

In conclusion, I have to say that if it hadn't been warped, the pan would be a reasonable $19 cast iron skillet, like the Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet provided I could use an abrasive to clean it. Non-stick? Er, no...

It is a pan and functions as one, more or less, so I gave it two stars, however I will be returning it and getting my $80 back.

I think the skillet was a great buy. I have it in orange. Spent months looking for this item. Then it was out of stock. Then there was more stock and I purchased it. Watched RR use it a year ago for the first time on her show. RR cooked with a blue one and a red one on her show as well as the orange. I kept sending the show e-mails since I had my heart set on the red skillet and got no response, ever. I settled on orange. Whatever color it is a great skillet with great price. I agree with all the good cooks of the world everyone should have a good cast iron skillet.

Presto 07030 Cool Touch 20-Inch Electric Griddle, Black

Presto 07030 Cool Touch 20-Inch Electric Griddle, BlackI bought this griddle for yakiniku, which is a great way to entertain guests, but I have found that I have been using it far more than anticipated.

Pros:

It's awesome to have a griddle in the kitchen.First and foremost, it's great being able to make more than one or two pancakes at a time.If you want to serve someone up a short stack, there is a lot of waiting using only two pans, but with this, you can crank out three good size cakes at the same time. Also, frying eggs and warming meat at the same time has saved me a lot of time in the mornings.

It's easy to clean. If you read the manual carefully, it suggests seasoning before use. This ensures a light coat of oil stays on it while it's being used.I've done this and NOTHING has stuck to the surface.I also give it a thorough scrub with either a dry paper towel or a wet one held with chopsticks after each use and it stays very clean.

It gets hot fast!Way faster than my range top and a pan, which also saves me time in the morning. This is mostly due to the light construction, but this can also contribute to un-even heating, which I have not yet had a problem with, although others have.

Its just more fun.Maybe this is helping me live out some long-lost short-order cook fantasies?= )

Cons:

As other reviewers have noted, it slides around a bit.I find myself lifting it up a bit on one side to both keep it in place and also to give the spatula better odds of sliding under an egg without breaking it.This is not a deal-breaking compensation, but rubber feet would have been nice here.

It tends to get pretty hot.The manual comes with cooking temps, but I found most of them to be a little high.Cooking a little more cool has helped things out for me.Again, this may be what has attributed to others' problems.

The bottom line here is that you get what you pay for. This is one of the cheaper models on the market, so I think it would be a little unrealistic to assume that the bargain model would deliver a top-of-the-line performance.I have had zero problems with mine so far, but I recognize that it clearly has some room for improvements.Until I want to shell out more than $30 for a small kitchen appliance, I'll be quite happy with this product.

I have been using the griddle for about a year now, and nothing sticks to it.It has a nice wide flat surface that makes it great for making pancakes for the family. My family used to have to eat them in shifts because I could only cook 2 at a time on my regular frying pan. I can do about eight at a time now, depending on how big i want them i can do more. Clean up is a breeze...once you remove the plug the griddle is completely submersable in water. I had a george foreman once...cleaning it was difficult because it couldn't get wet.I cook all my burgers on the Presto now.If grease starts to collect there is a grease tray on the side, just push the unwanted stuff into the hole with a spatula.

My original electric griddle was a Hamilton Beach.I had it for almost 16 years and used it constantly. It had the most non-stick surface I've ever seen.I never used any oil on it, and absolutely nothing stuck, not even scrambled eggs. When it finally wore out, I purchased a Presto Cool Touch griddle as a replacement. The product claimed to be non-stick.I was a little concerned when I saw that the surface was rough to the touch. It had the texture of a cast iron pan.I figured it must work, though.Well, everything stuck right to it.I was disappointed that I'd have to go back to using oil.I applied a nice coating of oil and started again.Everything still stuck. It was a real mess.As for cleanup, it's a nightmare. The oil got baked onto that rough surface and turned into that sticky brown goo you get sometimes on your glass bakeware. Not only that, it was impossible to completely remove the goo.I would wash the griddle by hand over and over again, only to find more brown goo rubbing off onto my dish towel when I dried it.I tried the griddle for 2 weeks and then took it out to the garbage can.I have since bought a #38510 Hamilton Beach StepSavor Jumbo Griddle and I love it.I am back to cooking without any added oil and cleanup is super easy.If you like to cook pancakes, eggs and french toast on your griddle, stick with Hamilton Beach for the best results.

After reading comments from other reviewers I was a little worried about uneven cooking when I ordered this, but in my experience (with pancakes) the difference in coloration was very minor between areas that were directly above the heating element and areas that weren't.I usually leave a good 5-10 mins for the griddle to heat up before I start cooking, so maybe if you throw the pancakes on right away after the minimum amount of warmup time you would get problems with uneven cooking, but personally I haven't experienced it.With cooking other things like grilled cheese sandwiches, there is no difference in coloration whatsoever between what was over the heating element and what wasn't.I followed the directions about "seasoning" the non-stick surface with canola oil before the first time I used it, and so far NOTHING sticks to this thing. It's been very easy to clean.Overall I love it, and compared to the price of other griddles out there I'm very happy with my purchase. It makes about six pancakes or sandwiches at a time, so I can easily produce food for 4-6 people faster than they can possibly eat it.The only negative is that, like other reviewers have mentioned, the legs on this griddle tend to slide across the countertop surface very easily.I solved it with a pack of 1/2" adhesive rubber feet I bought for $2.49 (similar to these: Waxman 4215395N 1/2-Inch Heavy Duty Bumper, Clear, Round), but despite how easy it was to fix this, it's really something Presto should have corrected before production so shame on them for that.Still, I would recommend this griddle to anyone in the market for a new one.I love it.

Want Presto 07030 Cool Touch 20-Inch Electric Griddle, Black Discount?

I picked up this griddle here for $20 and it was worth every single penny.I treated it with oil as was recommended in manual and have had absolutely no problems with sticking. It cleans easily and is large enough for quite alot of stuff. It heats quickly and evenly and has allowed me to make some quite spectacular meals.

Things I've cooled on it so far:

Eggs (over-easy)

Eggs (scrambled)

Bacon (wonderful)

Grilled cheese

Hamburgers

Pork chops

Steaks

Tuna steaks

Tillapia

Cod fillets

Salmon

Everything has come out wonderfully.

The only negative thing I have to say about it agrees with a few other reviewers. As sold, it has a tendency to slide around on the counter, which would be somewhat dangerous without precautions. However, it is trivial to deal with. I simply put a towel underneath.Walla ... no more sliding. For a real solution, just go to Home Depot and get some small rubber feet for $1.50.

All-in-all, this is the best $20 I have every spent on a kitchen appliance.

All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Nonstick Fry Pan

All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Nonstick Fry PanI've heard some complain that their nonstick surface did not last as long as they would have liked, or that it actually became sticky. Those reading should know that you should only use a nonstick pan for cooking things that require it, like; omlettes, eggs, pancakes, etc. For sautes and normal cooking, you should have another regular (i.e. not a nonstick type) pan. This will ensure that your nonstick pan will last a very long time because you will not be prematurely wearing it down by using it for cooking it was not made for. Sautes cook much better on a regular pan anyway. You should only use plastic or wood utensils on it, never metal. Also, nonstick pans are NOT dishwasher safe! Dishwashers will damage the nonstick surface! Wash your nonstick with a soft sponge and soapy water only.

All Clad is probably the best cookware around. This is due to the layered metal design (and the lifetime warranty). It has stainless steel layers with aluminium in between. This works to evenly distribute the heat (even if you have a nasty electric element stove!) because aluminium is a great heat conductor. Also, this pan has the layers on the sides as well so the heat distribution is quite even.

That said, my feeling is that this pan is too expensive. It's very well made and works well, however for non stick pans, you will see very similar performace in the much cheaper Emerilware nonstick (also made by All Clad). The difference is that the Emerilware nonstick pan does not use any stainless steel. Instead, it uses anodized aluminium. Aluminium is a great heat conductor so this pan will perform just as well, for a much cheaper price. The outside finish may not look as good for as long as a stainless steel finish though so if you care about looks and don't mind spending the money, this All Clad is tops.

The Emerilware one still has the lifetime warranty and is of the exact same dimensions as the All Clad branded one. And I like the handle on the Emerilware even better than the handle on the All Clad.

With this All Clad, you are paying more for the layered stainless steel and aluminium, which require more labor to produce as well as more metel and materials.

Of course the choice is yours. If you want the best and don't mind spending the extra money, this All Clad is tops. If however you want nearly identical performance at a cheaper cost and the same lifetime warranty, the less expensive Emerilware pan would be a better match. I don't think you can go wrong either way!

I've been an owner of All Clad for 15 years. My non-stick fry pan however looses it's teflon coating every 12-24 months along the edges.Probably not good for my health. However, I would simply drop the pan in the mail, send back to All Clad and almost like magic a new pan would be shipped to me within 7 days.Since All Clad was bought in 2004 everything has changed. They give you a hard time about using there famous warranty, and make the process difficult with RMA numbers, having to write something to them and wait to hear from them with a shipping number. It took them 2 weeks just to reply and give me a shipping number. Now they've had my pan for 4+ weeks and they told me it may be another 2 weeks. What's the point of the warranty?I am done with All Clad.Such a bummer.

My pan stopped being a non-stick pan about 18 months after I bought it.When I contacted All-Clad to have the pan repaired under warrantee I received the following email. All -Clad charges top dollar for their product.

Judge for yourself.

___________________

Dear Mr. Eisenberg,

We thank you for your email via All-Clad.com.We regret to learn that you have experienced any difficulties with your All-Clad cookware.

From date of purchase, All-Clad guarantees to repair or replace any item found defective in material, construction or workmanship under normal use and following care instructions. This excludes any damage resulting from improper use and care. Minor imperfections and slight color variations are normal.

We will be happy to provide a warranty evaluation.Prior to sending in your cookware, please review the following explanation of improper use and care that may have voided your warranty:

Most instances when the non-stick coating has lost its' non-stick properties, it is due to overheating of the pan.Cookware with non-stick coatings should be used on low to medium heat settings.Due to the superior quality of All-Clad cookware the cookware will heat up quicker and retain the heat. One indication that your pan has been overheated is that your non-stick has turned a brown or rusty color.Overheating of the non-stick coating will cause the non-stick properties to break down.As a result you will find that foods are sticking to the cookware.Overheating voids the warranty. You may try to clean the non-stick coating with a mixture of baking soda and mild dish detergent using a soft cloth.Depending on the degree of overheating, this may help return some of the

non-stick performance.

If there are digs, nicks or scratches to the non-stick coating from the use of metal utensils or sharp knives, this will affect the performance of the non-stick and will void the warranty.

Wearing away of the non-stick due to use of abrasive cleaners or scouring pads is not covered under the warranty.

If the non-stick appears to be flaking, but you do not see the stainless steel underneath, this may be due to residual oil build up on the pan.Oils hide within non-stick surfaces in places where they cannot be removed simply with soap and water. These oils burn during subsequent uses and create a layer that food can stick too and also can flake off.Sprinkle a bit of the baking soda into your pan. Add warm water and dish detergent to make a soupy solution. Use a soft cloth, plastic-looped scrubber, or a food-grade nylon scrubbing brush to agitate the debris in a circular motion.Rinse well with cold water and dry thoroughly to avoid spotting.

If you feel that the problem you are encountering is not a result of any of the above use and care issues, we will be happy to provide a warranty evaluation for replacement. Please package the product securely and include a brief note that explains the problem that you are experiencing with the item(s). Include in the note your name and return address. Please also mark the outside of the package clearly with the number 110416-000003.Send the return to the below address. We strongly suggest that you use a traceable form of shipping and retain the tracking number for your records. We cannot be responsible for packages that are lost or damaged in transit.

This is my most-used pan.My only beef is that the non-stick coating degrades over time. The coating desn't flake off like cheaper immitations, but it does wear away. After a couple of years, it just wasn't working.Frying an egg is the ultimate test of a non-stick.They slide around the pan when the pan is new.I returned it to All-Clad, and they replaced it with a new one.I'm now on my second pan and after another couple of years, it's going the same way.I can't complain about customer service, as they gave me a new pan without any original packaging or a receipt.

I wash the pan by hand and I never use metalic utensils in it.I never use it inside the oven.I think as far as non-sticks go, this is a fine product.I just don't think there is such a thing as a non-stick that can last that long.If All-Clad are happy to keep replacing my pan, then I guess I'll stick with it.

Want All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Nonstick Fry Pan Discount?

This pan is great when new. However, when you spend $125 on a pan, you expect to use it for a long time.Unfortunately, after a year or so, this pan started to develop a sticky film that compromised the non-stick cooking surface.All-Clad refused to exchange the pan for a new one, despite the fact that we followed their instructions with respect to heat and cleaning.

Bottom line is that you should stick with all-clad for stainless cookware. For non-stick, go with a cheaper alternative that you don't mind replacing every couple of years because All-Clad will not stand by their product.

Le Creuset 3-Ply Stainless Steel Fry Pan

Le Creuset Tri-Ply Stainless Steel 8-Inch Fry PanWhat can one say about Le Creuset that has not already been said or written about. The pan is first class and cooks all foods very evenly. I only wish that I would have known about this earlier. This is well worth the investiment if you are a serious foody. Le Creuset pulls it off again and all I can say is Outstanding.

I am new to stainless, but I love Creuset enameled cast iron and Mauviel copper, so when it came to stainless, I actually ran a head to head test between a Mauviel M'Cook (stainless) and Creuset Stainless skillets. And I like this one best.

I didn't compare to All-Clad which I feel is too expensive for comparable performance, and not nearly comfortable enough. I didn't compare Cuisinart and Calphalon stainless because I feel they cut corners to compete on price, and don't compare on quality (poorly balanced, handles too short, etc). But those are personal preferences, your mileage may vary.

THE SCOOP:

Mauviel is 5 ply and Le Creuset is 3 ply.

Price is in the same range, though Mauviel m'Cook is a little more expensive, 15 to 20% more. But both are less than All-Clad, and more expensive than Cuisinart.

Both are clad on bottom and up the sides.

Mauviel is made in France. Le Creuset stainless is made at their own factory China (which means the work is not subbed out to a contractor in China, but rather that Le Creuset has a manufacturing plant in China where they manage the production).

THE RESULTS:

They both heat up at the same speed and are equally even. I saw no difference.

Le Creuset's pan was much, much easier to handle. Creuset's handle is more ergonomic. Helper handle on the other side makes things easy to manage. And overall, the Creuset was better balanced, I feel.

Quality-wise, Le Creuset wins. The execution and attention to detail is flawless. The Mauviel just feels a little less substantial and less carefully put together.

APPEARANCE:

Attractiveness is a personal thing, but I prefer Le Creuset. If you hang your pots and pans on the wall, though, then you might prefer Mauviel. Here are my thoughts:

Le Creuset looks sturdy, but does so elegantly, like a country kitchen style, while Mauviel is amore streamlined design, more refined shape, but not as attractive to my eye.

The Mauviel exterior is shiny stainless, while the inside is brushed stainless. Mauviel is logo is pressed into the base of the handle. The brushed interior just feels a little less classy and uninspiring sitting on the stove.

Le Creuset has two toned brushed/polished stainless exterior with a polished interior. Le Creuset logo is pressed into the base of the stainless handle and the top of the helper handle. I find the execution of the two tone exceptionally well done (way more attractive than Cuisinart's two tone french classic "high end line" for example) and the details, like the riveted handle are supremely well executed.

Le Creuset does have printing on the bottom side of the skillet, which detracts a little bit from the quality feel. Does not make you want to hang your skillet on the wall.

For hanging pans on a wall, Mauviel's shiny exterior, slimmer profile, and non-print bottom look better to me.

On the stove or table, though, I find Le Creuset is actually more modern and elegant looking, even though it's more sturdy. Its shiny interior and attractive shape are inspiring to me sitting on the stove awaiting my creations, but this is personal preference.

Le Creuset Stainless Fry Pan Summary:

PROS:

Quick, even heating. It's aluminium/stainless 3 ply clad.

It's heavy and thick, which means there's enough aluminum in there to actually distribute the heat across the entire pan. Performance demonstrates this.

Clad on bottom and up the sides.

Handle is excellent. Best out there, in my opinion (better than Calphalon, All Clad, Mauviel, Cuisinart).

Has a helper handle. Superbly handy.

Very attractive (see above report on attractiveness for details).

CONS:

Printing on the bottom (Le Creuset, plus some symbols indicating that the skillet can be used on gas, electric and induction). Doesn't affect performance at all and isn't noticeable unless you're looking at the bottom of your pan. So if you're hanging your pots on your wall, it's not as elegant as an all-smooth shiny stainless like Mauviel.

All in all, I'm quite in love with Creuset Stainless. It performs great, it's comfortable to manage and beautiful to cook in.

Overall the pan is a great value.I use it mostly for frying foods. The only drawback is that the finish on the frying surface grew dull after the first use and no matter what I do it stays dull and marbled looking.

We have a larger All-Clad pan and the handle seems to have been designed by a sadist. This Le Creuset handle is very comfortable and the pan's polished surface cleans up nicely. The thick three ply aluminum core distributes heat evenly when placed over our gas burners. We haven't used the wide pouring lip but I can see where this would be convenient. The 9 1/2" size and weight are perfect for many uses.

Ozeri ZP-20GL Green Earth Frying Pan Lid, 8-Inch

Ozeri ZP-20GL Green Earth Frying Pan Lid, 8-InchThe ergonomically designed handle is larger and easier to grip than a conventional round knob. It automatically orients the location of the vent hole away from the cook's wrist to prevent accidental scalding from escaping steam. The inner flange of the stainless steel rim measures exactly 7-13/16" to nest nicely inside a conventional 8" pot. The handle is screwed directly to the lid without any intervening washer or adapter, therefore keeping the lid top easier to clean and with an elegant minimalist contemporary design.

I have had the Ozeri 8" Green Earth Frying Pan for a couple of months now, and received the matching lid about a month ago.Prior to having the lid, I was using the pan for scrambled eggs, omelets, and other cooking that I didn't need a lid for. When cooking chops, and putting it in the oven, I had to cover it with aluminum foil.

Now that I have the lid I can cook ground beef, and onions, for a Shepherd's pie.I also use the pan for making my favorite dish, which is an Indian curry.

The lid is tempered glass, and has a really neat vent area, for allowing the steam to come out.It is silver in color, the same as the rim of the lid, and has a hole in the middle, with 4 smaller ones around the outside of it.The lid fits perfecting into the Green Earth Frying Pan.

Now when I am cooking my pork chops, I can sear then in the pan, and transfer the pan, and lid, into the oven.As long as I keep the temperature down to 392 F or below, it is ovenproof.I normally cook my chops at 325 F.

When using the lid, the black handle/knob, which is on the top, stays cool, making for easy cooking.

I can watch my food cooking through the clear glass lid. Before I would have to check my food, by taking off the lid, to ensure it didn't run dry.

I always wash my pots and pans by hand. However, this lid is suitable to go into the dishwasher.

I was sent the 8" Green Earth Frying Pan Lid, by Ozeri for my personal use. I was under no contract, or obligation to write a review, or to write a favorable one if I chose to write one.

The lid fits the 8 inch Green Earth frying pan perfectly (I'm writing a separate review for this) and is very sturdy, as well as easy to clean. It sounds silly, but the whole pan and lid set looks so stylish that I keep it on my stove at all times, along with a beautiful red dutch oven. Aside from the fit, I like that the handle is very sturdy and stays cool (being sufficiently far away from the glass) making it easy to take the lid off with one hand, while stirring with the other. I have used lids before where the handle is either heat-conductive, or it is too close to the lid which heats up so it requires a quick touch or using a pot holder. Anywho, definitely would recommend the product.

Great lid. Fits my T-Fal pot like it was made for it. This lid has a slight inward taper on the rim so that it will fit almost any 8 inch pot or pan just like factory made, no matter what the brand. Ozeri got the lid to me ahead of schedule and I could not be happier with them or the lid. Buy it, you'll like it.

This is a glass lid with a metal edge installed which forms the lip to correctly fit the pan.It has a small vent installed in the glass.

The noted design problem is that there is a narrow space between the glass and the lip where the lip steps in to be the correct diameter to fit the pan.Any food that gets into the narrow area between lid glass and lip is difficult to remove, at least with hand washing. If not removed this could become a health hazard.IMO the lid would be better if all glass construction at the edges or if the glass was smaller in diameter so that the metal edge did not include the step-in and resulting narrow food trapping gap.As is the lid works fine but is a PITA to clean thoroughly, particularly if there has been any boil over or splatter into the noted gap area.

This also applies to the 12" lid which I have and presumably to the 10" size too.

Sitram Profiserie 11-Inch Commercial Stainless Steel Fry Pan

Sitram Profiserie 11-Inch Commercial Stainless Steel Fry PanI have owned this pan [ASIN:B00004SACZ Sitram Profiserie 11-Inch Commercial Stainless Steel Fry Pan] over 10 years. It is extraordinary and once we got used to the characteristics of stainless steel cookware would not go back.We have never had any regrets about the purchase.

Recently we noticed the stainless steel on the bottom was pulling away from the aluminum layer.Since I had just selected and ordered a new Sitram copper bottomed Saute pan for a request from my wife, I decided to email Sitram to ask how to have it repaired, and offered to send a picture. They asked for the picture and I sent it.

The response was that the problem was covered under the limited lifetime warranty. The replacement arrived today.

The original has provided extraordinary, daily service and both my wife and I are extremely pleased. The Sitram response by replacing the original pan was more than expected.

We don't see any reason not to continue supporting Sitram products.I don't see how we could expect more. The products are our favorites, and the backup to the warranty was more than I expected.

Best regards,

Tom C

Black & Decker G48TD Grill and Waffle Maker

Black & Decker G48TD Grill and Waffle MakerI love this waffle maker! It's like the ones our mom used, not those cheesy seeming plastic things they're making now. It's also got a lot of excellent features that make my life easier.

I'll mention right now that this is a VERY hot waffle maker. They make the plastic ones to be "cool touch".I'll trade the cool touch feature for the sturdier design of this versatile machine. I'm being careful and haven't burned myself yet. But it's something to consider if you'd like your children making waffles. My ten year old could be careful enough, but I keep my five and eight year olds away.

The waffles this machine makes are great! They freeze well too.The family is very happy. When the light goes of the unit is ready to make waffles. Pour in the batter and the light comes on again--wait for it to go off and the waffle is done (however, I usually go on instinct and sometimes pull out the waffle before the light goes off.)

The open grill feature makes wonderful pancakes and fried eggs.I have a big family and it's nice to have two pancakes cook at a shot without taking up all my stovetop!I can have bacon and eggs on the stove and the pancakes on the waffle maker.(I can also have a heart attack if I keep eating all these bacon and eggs!)

The sandwich feature is nice.I can cook two grilled cheese sandwiches at one time getting me out of the kitchen quicker. Some advice--cheese might drip out the side of the sandwich.Just keep the sandwich away from the back of the unit where the cables run in and the mess just wipes off--no problem. The sandwiches cook far more uniformly than they do in a pan on the stove. They taste great.

This unit cleans up easily and changing the grills from waffle to flat is easy.I recommend it over a lot of more costly models if you want more value for your money. This is the most versatile waffle maker I've found and all the features actually work!

I got this one after unsuccessfully trying the Cuisinart waffle maker. It is wonderful!None of the batters, not even gluten-free ones would stick. All waffles came out great, crisp outside and moist inside. The grill feature was a plus and makes great grill cheese or other types or grilled sandwishes in a jiffy.

Back in the 60's I loved the Sundays my Dad made waffles on a toastmaster Waffle/grill. He would add cinnamon, fruit, all kinds of things. Never stuck always light and fluffy. When I went to college my odyssey began. I have gone through 4! different brands and here is why you want this machine Ok Betty Crocker and others may have a beeper but the waffle that comes out could have come out of a toaster, B&D lets you choose on a dark to light waffle 'zone' with a light that goes out when it reaches that temp. Even with a thick from the box batter out came the most fluffy waffle with a Belgium like crust. Take a close look at this baby it's CROME and yes it will get hot, (kids don't touch) but unlike others it CLEANS UP. Overflows are no problem. Just as good a George Forman. And grilled sandwiches were wonderful but I use old world bakery bread with brie and dry salami, again adjust for light and dark. Favorite recipe? Coco for a chocolate waffle and chocolate chip ice cream to make a sandwich. This is an 'open and closed' case and really is space saver 3 in 1 product for our family.

This is a great waffle maker!!Every time we make waffles, they flip right out just like they're supposed to.We haven't had any of them get stuck or had any of the disasters/frustrations that we've had with other waffle irons. It's actually easy to make a waffle again. Can you imagine!?I think the reason why is that the Teflon is good and it gets hot, evenly.

After you get it, my recommendation would be to FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS that comes with it.Just before preheating, brush on some vegetable oil like it says to do.(I guess you can use spray but we've found the oil at first works best.)After that, you won't need anything at all for the other batches. Also, be sure not to mess up the Teflon coating by washing it while it's still hot (let it cool off completely) or by using utensils that will scratch it up, like metal forks and scrubbers. If you take care of this sensitive Teflon, it will take care of you.I think it says not to put it in the dishwasher so you probably don't want to.Both plates, top and bottom, are completely removable and they're really easy to clean with a basic sponge...don't use the scrubby side of the sponge though...you won't need to anyway.

We've made waffles several times already and they've been perfect every time.It DOES get really hot but that's a good thing. We've also flipped it over to the grill side and that's great too. We've made quesadillas, grilled cheese sandwiches, and burgers. For burgers, it has a trench like thing around the border of the grill that the fat collects in.You'll need a little cup or something to catch it where it supposed to drip out.

If you really want it to "drain the fat away" fast like a Forman type grill, just put something under the back left leg to tilt it a bit.Don't put something under the leg that could catch fire though....again, say it with me, "It gets really hot!"We've been placing it on our stove top when we use it...if you have sensitive counter tops, do that too.

If you make a sandwich, keep the grill open and flip the sandwich as needed.Otherwise, your sandwich will get really flat.I think that's it -It really is one of our better purchases lately and so we take good care of it.Oh, and adding a nice amount of vanilla extract to your waffle batter makes them delicious!!(wife said to throw that in) Happy Waffle'n!

This is our second purchase of this same model over many years and have found it to be of good quality, reliable, and attractive square waffle maker. The removable cooking plates make clean up a snap and allows unit to be used for pancakes and sandwich cooking also. The temp control knob can be set to produce desired doneness everytime. I highly recommend this model.

Easy cleanup too. My husband and I agree we should have bought one of these years ago mainly to steam just about anything.

My first one I Purchased from HSN years ago, I like it so much I decided to get another Ingrid Hoffman Hard Enamel Nonstick Tamale Steamer with the Glass Lid so I can see what's going on. I have Cooked just about everything in this Pot except Tamales (for that I have an Imusa 20 quart steamer pot) I use it for Stock Soups Stews Boiling Pasta and even Big Batches of Barbecue Sauce and Salsa. I like to Boil my own water and that's why I wanted to get a second one. The Tamale Steamer also comes with the Steamer Rack

The 12 Quart Tamale Steamer with Glass Lid has a Beautiful Hard Enamel Exterior with a Great Design outside on the Bottom and Non-Stick Interior and it is Dishwasher Safe, although I wash it by Hand. The exact measurements are 7 1/2 Inches Tall by 11 Inches Wide and Not 14.8 x 7.2 x 19.5 as the Product Detail Indicates, that must be the size of the box. The Tamale Steamer Pot is very Wide and that's one of the things I like about it, I can Cook any meat or vegetables for stews without having to reach deep down unlike those tall Stock Pots. Le Creuset Forged Hard Anodized Nonstick Deep Fry Pan

Le Creuset Forged Hard-Anodized 11-Inch Nonstick Deep Fry PanBeen very happy with all the Le Creuset items I own, which up until now were a collection enameled cast iron.We were in need of a no stick fry pan and decided to go with a name we knew. The pan has nice weight, feels good and has been excellent to cook with and I am happy with it.

Sadly after owning it for a while, it came to my attention that it isn't made in France. Now does that make it a bad pan?No...But if I am going to spend the money on Le Creuset, I guess I expect it to be made in France.

Just a good thing to keep an eye one.Things aren't always what they appear.

I bought it here about 1 week ago. I like the deep pan and it holds more food. It is little heavy than I expected. In the instruction that it needs to be seasoned with oil for the first couple uses. (((I use to to sear food and it comes out perfect. At first I used high heat to heat up oil and then I use medium heat so my food won't burn. The heat travels quickly all over the pan. ))) I am just happy that Le Creuset made a great product. I don't have to keep buying pots and pans every year or two. I don't know a lot of products that have 10 yrs warranty. Great buy! It costs less in the long run and saves time and gas to look for another pan. I am done shopping for cookware. Yeah!

Well, I need a deep sided frying pan to cook those Voila and Bertoli meals and I've always used Le crueset for my Dutch ovens and sauce/fry pans. So I ordered the Le Crueset Quadrumvate of toughened non-stick 12"deep frying, 12" low skillet, 9" skillet and 12" lid. When they arrived they shrank an inch and are now 11" deep fryer, 11" low skillet 9" skillet and 11" lid. called the seller(not amazon) and was told the description and stock had changed? Ok...well the next thing I saw was Made in China, strike two. Here's an example of paying too much for outsourced manufacturing. I expected Made in france, sacre bleu! then I noticed the induction plate and went back to my QVC set of old. Here's the good, I always liked the QVC set with the induction plate and they cost the same. The heating was even and nice. Le Crueset did include in their directions that you need to gradually heat the skillets which is paramount. If you try to heat them too fast, the metals(stainless steel induction plate, aluminum vessel) will expand at different rates causing them to eventually seperate. Immersing these skillets in a sink of water is also a bad idea, but they came with a ten year warranty that basically says the warranty is void if you use the product, so I hope to have many trouble free years with my purchase. I like the old "grey" non-stick coating.

Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry Skillet

Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry SkilletAnother great product from Amazon.

Neither the Amazon page nor the Stansport page mention the size of this wok.It measures 12 7/8" outside dimension.Perfect for my needs. It also didn't mention that a wok ring is not needed. It has a cast flat bottom on the outside but still keeps the smooth dome shape inside.

It does require immediate seasoning prior to use.

I am VERY pleased with my purchase and will be looking for more items from this manufacturer in the future.A great buy for a product that should outlive me several times over.

Would purchase again, will recommend this wok to my friends and family.

Most home ranges just don't get hot enough to manage wok cooking. The range has to produce enough heat to fire up and go through a thick layer of cast iron.Robert Yick's website shows that their wok ranges go up to 150,000 BTU.The Wok Shop in San Francisco's Chinatown sells a 32,000 BTU burner. What does a good gas range put out?Maybe 20,000 BTU?

When I first got this item, many moons ago, it was used outdoors.Excellent for campfire cooking. It also works great in the backyard if you build a good fire in your bbq pit.It was okay on the stove, but it seemed to take forever to heat up on my gas range, and it just did not feel all that hot.If you're using a basic home gas range, stick to the 16 inch Traditional Cast Iron Wok.

Where this wok really excels is on an induction cooktop.I use a Max Burton 6000 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop, Black.Unbelievable how hot this wok can get.I can run an extension cord outside, fire up a wok full of oil, and do all my deep frying without getting the house all hot, smokey, and oiley.First of all, the oil in the wok gets to a rolling boil within minutes. It takes a lot longer than that if I were to build a fire, or set up a propane turkey fryer.I can cook up batches of chicken wings by the dozen, and with a little Frank's Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce 1 gal. and some Butter unsalted 83% 1 lb, you will swear I am wearing a tight t-shirt and orange shorts. The best part is that all that I have to do is turn off my induction cooktop. No worrying about waiting for the fire to burn out, or worrying about the oil boiling over into a live flame.

Oh, and by the way, in case you can't get Chinese food on every corner like here in San Francisco; this wok makes really good Chinese food.

Tried half a dozen cooking woks with non sticking future, some more expensive ones even get uneven bottom after about 1 year, I am cooking on electric ranger not on gas stove!? This one works great, heavy but this is true cast iron. Do not trust those light weight cast iron wok, not working. The size is perfect for frying veggies etc. simply love it. Love the handle design too.

It's very heavy. So heavy, there's no way you'll lift it with one hand and tilt it to pour out the food. One person would need to hold it with two hands while someone else scoops out the contents. It's better for weight lifting. Also it arrives covered in a layer of some sort of wax which we are advised to rinse out with warm water and soap. Getting this wax off was pretty distressing to me because there's no telling when the iron is clean, and whatever remains ends up in your dinner that first meal. Next we are instructed to season it with oil then bake for, I think, two hours. After 20 minutes my house was in a deep fog and all smoke alarms were going off, so I left it at that and considered it seasoned.

Having said all that, once you get it broken in, it seems like a very durable, very well-made wok; I could see it lasting a lifetime.

Pros: Great Size, neither too big nor too small, and the weight is suitable for ladies to handle as well.

Heat evenly, easy to clean.

Heat concentrates in the bottom as a wok should do. when you cooking the handle is not so hot at

all.

This wok is great for stir and deep frying.

Nice workmanship, but still cannot beat LODGE.

Cons: Remember to remove the wax coating before seasoning-After washing it with brush and soapy water, I put a full wok of water on the oventop andturn the oven to high heat for 20 min., then most wax will melted in the water. I don't think the wax coating can be easily removed just by your brush and soapy.

Would recommend it to any one who wants a cast iron wok!

p.s The first wok I received it not a good one-there's hole under the bottom and then Amazon sent a new one to me right away on the following day! I am a fan of Amazon, Amazon's service is SO GREAT!

updated: I would like to add one con to my review.

This wok heat slowly on oven top, much slower than my LODGE skillet and dutch oven. So I only use it for deep fry once in a while. I guess that is due to the thick base of it. Maybe I should try the induction cooking top someday, it may works better.
