Oster SH12 12-Inch Skillet with Hinged Lid, Black
So far I have made pancakes and scrambled eggs in my new skillet and I love it!The non-stick coating allowed items to come off the pan easily and it was a breeze to clean.I also love the glass lid, so I can see the food without having to lift the lid.On the warm setting I was able to keep the eggs ready to eat and warm when breakfast was slightly delayed. There are no vent holes, but this was not a huge deal to me.
If you would like a good, all-around electric skilletthis one is a good price of good quality.
I would definitely recommend.I have to change my review on this product. The design was delightful, but sadly, the lack of quality betrayed the design.
One drawback is that the heating element (as you can see on the bottom of the pan) is one circle around the outside of the pan. You definitely have to stir to make sure the contents cook evenly. But the thermostat shuts off when it reaches the desired temperature, then turns on again when the temp drops.
Worst of all is a problem I see reflected in other reviews here -the thermostat just breaks, early into the product's life. I wondered why I could never take it beyond the "warming" part of the dial -never even into the numbered part. Effectively, it had only one heat setting -High. The thermostat just didn't work, didn't regulate, and everything would boil, with the dial set on "warm".
It got so bad, that the coating on the pan started to boil and bubble, and pieces of the Teflon (or whatever) actually came off into my food!
I loved the design, and it worked great the first couple of times I used it. But then it was useless, and even dangerous, because of bubbling off the nonstick coating into my food.

I bought this pan for my elderly Mother who for reasons related to her personal health and saftety, can no longer use the oven. She had used her former electric skillet for over 30 years and it really needed replacing.
She is delighed with this pan and finds she can prepare steaks, chops, bacon and eggs and french toast all with equal ease.
The cooking is even and the temperature is "true".
The non-stick interior is an added bonus and an improvement over her former electric skillet which is no longer manufactured.

I only had this for a couple months.I had the same problem reported earlier with the short cord, but it didn't bother me too much.I did like the skillet at first. What does bother me is that the skillet is already shot. The nonstick surface is very thin and chipped, even with plastic utensils. The food started burning on any temp. Then the skillet got so hot that the nonstick surface burned and bubbled in a perfect circle over the heating element.I guess the thermostat went out.The skillet wasn't expensive, and I expected to have to replace it in the future, but these problems are beyond normal wear.Want Oster SH12 12-Inch Skillet with Hinged Lid, Black Discount?
I am really pleased with this purchase. Have never owned an electric skillet before and am amazed at how easy it is to use and clean. I guess I'll just throw away the old range top and go with this from now on. My needs for cooking are really simple and between this and my coffeemaker and microwave I am really on top of things. Granite Ware 509-2 18-Inch Covered Oval Roaster
If the label on your pan does NOT say "Made in the USA" you did NOT get real Graniteware! (Also, REAL Granite Ware covered roasters have "USA" EMBOSSED under the handle of the lid.) So try to get the real American Granite Ware it will not disappoint you!
PS Excellent roasting & browning at LOW temps! We use 275 degrees (at most) and always get great results whether roasting Turkey, Chicken, Beef, or Lamb.
I'd been using a stainless steel roaster and couldn't figure out why my turkey always took TWICE as long to cook....so frustrating!
The first time I used this roaster, it was my best turkey ever...perfect color and flavor, and finished on time! Also, it's sturdy and easy to heft in and out of the oven, unlike the back-breaking stainless steel monstrosity. 17 stars!

One thing to keep in mind with this and other Granite Ware roasters is that the dimension given is the outside one, including the handles. The "18-inch" one is just 15 inches inside (long dimension). Be sure to buy the 18-inch one if you want to cook a turkey rather than a chicken. You can fit a turkey up to about 22 lb. in it. (Tip: wrap the turkey completely in foil after stuffing and cook at 400 degrees uncovered; sample time, 4 hours for 17-19 lb. turkey. Peel back the foil for the last 15 minutes to brown. No basting, works every time!) This item does say USA on it, so I hope it will last for years, like our old one.Want Granite Ware 509-2 18-Inch Covered Oval Roaster Discount?

They flip eggs and serve 'em so the whites are cooked and the yolks are runny without bursting the yolks!
What skill.
So, I asked the waitress one day how they did that and she said Waffle House buys EAGLEWARE aluminum fry pan but carefully season the aluminum with salt/oil so that the pan is slicker than Teflon!
Season your EAGLEWARE aluminum fry pan the momma donna way:
1. wash it
2. dry it
3. put salt in it
4. with paper towel, grind it into the inside of pan
5. then, brush out the salt
6. dip another paper towel in oil and rub oil around the pan, leaving it on there.
7.put the pan on the burner (low-med heat) just until it is about to smoke.
8.take off burner and allow to cool.
9.repeat steps 1-8 two more times.
10.repeat steps 1-6, rubbing oil WELL into the pan before storing/putting away.
11. this process cures and seals the aluminum, making it stick-free… slicker than Teflon!

I just got this pan and so far am very pleased with it!It was inexpensive, it heats well and evenly, plus I love the orange! The reasons I chose it are the price, the style, and most importantly in addition to those is that it is oven safe to 400 degrees.I believe that if you go any less expensive they are not oven safe.Great buy!!!

I bought this because my cookware is stainless steel and I wanted a non-stick pan for eggs.I bought mine at a discount retailer for roughly the same price as is being offered on Amazon, which I think is an excellent value.I love this little thing.I usually like to cook my eggs over easy, and it's a simple process with this pan.I add a little oil to the pan (Zoe Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 1-Liter Tins (Pack of 2) is my brand of choice).Once the eggs are set on the bottom, they flip easily.Any time I've broken a yolk it's been because of my spatula work. And I really don't even need a spatula to transfer them to the plate when they're finished they'll slide right out.
If there's one issue, it's that the oil can be a bit hard to completely wash out of the coating of the pan, leaving behind that greasy look and feel.Simple enough to solve:I leave mine to sit soaking with a drop of detergent throughout the day and when I come home in the evening, it cleans up perfectly.

This is a great indoor grill!Bought for my hubby who loves to grill but not in the snow.I decided to get this model with the broiler. We rarely use the broiler, but probably because we haven't researched what all we can do with a broiler. We rarely broil anything anyway. The grill does not smoke at all, and he can get his grill lines he wants too. This does cook fast, sort of like a george foreman fast.I thought he may use this occassionally, but we use it all the time for everything during the winter.Burgers, Steak, Chicken, shrimp, veggies, and fish, etc.We always mist with Pam before to avoid sticking, as we do with our outdoor grill. As the wife, I worried it would be a pain to clean. Not at all.The grill lifts off easily and a quick rinse, suds under running water and voila clean! We store in the pantry and it is lighter than it looks. We can easily grab it and put onto our countertop for cooking.

This product shows how a previously well thought of product name can fall victim to the greed of quick profits. This unit worked for all of 1 hour. The temperature control went bad and refused to heat above the warm level.Contact with the company proved a waste of time. There are no parts available for the product.
Simply replacing the control unit would have solved the problem, a simple matter, but their only approach was for me to shoulder the expense of shipping the unit to them. The cost easily exceeding the value of the unit when added on top of the initial cost.
Looking closely at the unit, the cheapness of construction was evident.I would recommend finding another brand.
Lodge Logic L8SGP3 Pre-Seasoned Square Grill Pan, 10.5-inch
The result is the best steak I have ever cooked indoors. It beats any electric grill I have ever used, and it beats the George Foreman grill hands down.I would say that the results are almost restaurant quality.I look forward to cooking hamburgers within the next day or so.
I think this would work better with slightly less thick cuts of meat.Even at high heat it took longer than it would have taken on a grill.During the cooking I put a metal lid over the pan to control splattering.
I think it will be a breeze to clean.Oiling it after cleaning, with the ridges, will be a little more work than for smoother surfaces.
Because the ridges are so high, the grill does a great job of cooking away from the fat, and probably (my guess) does even a better job than the George Foreman grill in that regard.
Pans like this pay for themselves. This pan is about the cost of a dinner for two, and it will result in less eating out.
Update:I cleaned the pan after making the steak. It was more difficult to clean than other cast iron pans due to the ridges, however, I think I need to find a different tool to clean it with.Someone recommended a grill pad or brush. Also, I usually put the pan over enough heat to evaporate any water from cleaning, and then apply a thin amount of oil. This was also harder.I think it will get better with practice. In any case, the results were worth it.
I will be trying burgers and pork chops soon, so stay tuned!
Update:I cooked pork chops tonight on this grill, and they are the best pork chops I have ever had in my life.I let the pan heat up, and usually also have the electric burner on high heat when adding the meat.I then turn it down a bit.The cast iron doesn't cool off, and it sears the juices in.I have found that a metal cover over the grill works well to keep in splatters and heat.Another thing that is helpful is a temperature fork, which told me tonight that the chops were at 180 degrees, otherwise I would have overcooked them.
This is by far the best money that I have spent on cooking equipment, and it will definitely save a lot of $$$ because I will treat myself to excellent home-cooked meals more often.
It's cast iron, so you can run this pan as hot as you dare to sear the flavor in. Makes excellent burgers and brats, with nice grill marks but no burned spots, even when well-done. Try that with a George Foreman and your burger will be black outside and dryer than the Mojave Desert inside.
The square pan provides plenty of room to fry up a few burgers and the hot juices in the bottom are made-to-order for sauteeing a few mushrooms, onions, or peppers to go on top. The handle is fatter than older Lodge designs and quite ergonomic as long as you're wearing an oven mitt. Cleans nicely by boiling a little water in the pan and giving it a quick scrub with a stiff round natural-bristle vegetable brush and the hottest water that'll come out of the tap.
I would recommend this pan over the 11.5" one Lodge also offers because the thicker bottom, smaller sides, and deeper walls of the 10.5" pan provide fairly even heat over the entire grill surface. It appears that the 11.5" pan is based on the griddle of the same size, and my 11.5" griddle is hot near the center and cooler near the edges when used on a burner OK for hash browns, but bad for burgers, grilled cheese, and such.
Excellent product; if you can't grill outside, this pan is the next best thing!

This was my first time using cast iron cookware, and it was almost the last. After my first attempt, I was very disappointed. The second the food contacted the pre-heated pan it stuck to the it, and I mean really stuck to it. I had to tear the chicken breast from the pan, literally! The clean up was a nightmare. Everything was burnt on. It probably took me close to 20 minutes to clean the pan. I thought about trashing the grill. I thought cast iron cookware was a joke.Well, a couple of days later I decided to give it another shot. I looked up cast iron cookware on the web and clicked on a random link (unfortunately, I do not remember the link, but it was an old article). The website article explained (if memory serves correctly) that there is a difference between pre-seasoned and seasoned cast iron; it takes many uses to develop a good seasoning of the cast iron utensil; pre-seasoned just means that the first step was already started. It also stated that one should never use any soap or scrub with anything harsh; a plant-fiber brush is recommended because the goal is to get the particles off the pan, not clean off all the used oil left behind. I'm thinking I should have read the directions that came with the pan before I used it instead of assuming it was good to go.
I decided to give it a few more tries. I purchased a cast iron scrub brush to use for cleaning, and spent more time cleaning it before my second use because there was still a lot of burnt on food still stuck to the pan. After a few more uses, I started noticing that food wasn't getting stuck as often, grill marks are looking better and what was burnt on the pan was very easy to clean off with the brush and hot water. About a dozen uses later the pan has developed a smoother, more glossy surface on the cooking surface. Now the food (even fish) just glides off the pan. A quick rinse with hot water and most of the burnt on stuff just flakes off. A quick pass with the brush and the pan is clean and perfectly smooth, in fact, this is the easiest pan to clean in my kitchen. After use (while the pan is till warm but not hot), I just rinse with hot water and a quick pass with the brush, dry it, lightly coat it with oil, and store it for next use.
And the brighter side to this.....it is starting to impart some flavors on the food that makes it taste fantastic! The grill marks are clean and consistent, and it cooks everything evenly.
To the folks who had bad luck with using this for the first time, give it a few more tries before you write this off. It did not work for me at first because I did not read the directions and assumed that using cast iron was no different than using any other type of cookware.

I really liked that fact that this comes pre-seasoned. It's a nice size for 2-4 people and allows for a much larger cooking surface than my George Forman grill. Which I love, but is way too small for more than one person.I've used this quite often. However, I thought I'd be more impressed. Food seems to stick and burn, although it's gotten a bit better after more use.
Like outdoor grilling, you have to make sure the pan is hot enough, put the meat in the pan and not move it around or keep flipping. Just wait until the one side is done, then flip. I'm going to try to (re)season it myself and see if that helps.
Adds a nice flavor to the food and leaves grill marks. Whatever you do, don't touch the handle after heating without a hot pad. The entire pan gets extremely hot.
Despite the sticking, it cleans up rather nicely. When there's food stuck to the bottom, I put it back on the stove with a little water, bring it to a boil, throw in a bit of baking soda and let it boil for about 5 minutes. After it cools a bit, scrub it with a sponge and it comes right off and looks new again.
You do have to make sure to dry your cast iron well if it gets wet or it will rust. If this happens, don't throw it out! Scrub the rust off with a brillo pad or a ball of crumpled aluminum foil, rinse, dry well and reseason it.
If you're trying to decide between the grill or flat pan, I'd choose the flat pan first. I also have the pre-seasoned flat pan and like it more. It's easier to work with and doesn't smoke quite as much. Also a little easier to clean because it doesn't have the grilling surface.
Cast iron is very heavy, but sturdy, conducts great heat & will last a lifetime. Keep a hot pad close by so you won't forget to use it.

Have used the grill many times and it works great.Very little smoke. The challenge is cleaning the unit without ruining the grill.Foods have a tendency to stick and even with a sponge and much elbow grease it is very difficult to keep perfectly clean.I just used a portable steamer to clean it and that did the trick.

I got this as a shower gift a few weeks ago.It works great! The heat is even, cleaning is easy, and no smoke. The package said using sauces could cause smoke, but we never had a problem. My only advice is don't cook meat on the bone on this grill. It took forever to cook a few chicken legs, and they were still raw in the center. If if had a lid to hold the heat in maybe it would have worked a little better.I'm going to stick to burgers, shrimp, veggies, and boneless chicken. Those all turn out great.Want Hamilton Beach 31605 HealthSmart Indoor Grill Discount?
Alright, for those that says clean up is a breeze, notice how most of those reviewers have a dishwasher. But for those folks without one, this item is by no means a "breeze" to clean. The item is simply too large to fit in a regular kitchen sink (or at least the one I have). So soaking it is out of the question. The nonstick coating does absolutely nothing. If you try to grill anything with a sauce or marinate, be prepared to spend hours trying to scrap off gunks congealed sauce residue. And because of the nonstick coating you cannot use a metal scrubber. And if you think about it, Teflon doesn't recommend the use of their pans over high heat, for the teflon coating would melt and wear out.So why would anyone have a teflon coated grill, where the process of grilling probably necessitates the highest temperature out of all cooking methods?
I've learned to work around with it.Such as covering it with a disposable aluminum pan while it preheats so it heats up faster. And placing foil in the drip tray so clean up is easier. But the size and grate-cleaning problem persist.
Berndes SignoCast Classic 13-Inch, 6-Quart Saut? Pan
This Saute Pan is large enough to handle the biggest tasks, but adequate for smaller tasks as well (I regularly cook for only two).It distributes heat evenly and it appears to hold heat well.I was expecting the pan to be heavy, but it is very light and the extra handle allows for ease of movement when you have a great deal of food in the pan.
And did I mention non-stick.It's as good or better than any non-stick pan I've ever used. And you get a feeling that it is non stick through and through.Plus the exterior is made of the same non-stick material so clean up is a piece of cake.
It's more expensive than most non stick, teflon coated pans but it's solid. It may be cheaper than Calphalon, but I'm not impressed by Calphalon. It's not so non-stick and not as even a heater as everyone says.Maybe I've seen the wrong Calphalon, but you're probably wasting your money on it.
Give Berndes Signocast a shot. The bigger the better.I only have one, but that's all you really need. This pan shares it's cooking duties with my Sitram Magnum Pro line, a Sitram Cybernox pan and a set of Le Creuset.I don't know if I'd buy an entire set of Berndes (I'm pretty old-school in most of my cookware choices) but give one a try you won't be disappointed.
UPDATE:
After a year and a half it's still going strong.Even the sides (which scrape up against other pots, pans, & utensils) still appear perfect, in terms of the non-stick coating.I will never again buy a non-stick pan that isn't made by Berndes.I love this pan.It is expensive but the best pan for me.It is quite large and the non-stick surface is so smooth, both inside and out, and no sign of wear after about a year of use so far.Very nicely made.A good investment.

Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch, 5-Quart Covered Saute Pan
I kept glancing at the 10" open French Anolon pan I'd bought at Amazon 10 years ago, which is still going strong. The old Anolon admittedly has some discoloration and "seasoning" at this point, but 10 years for a nonstick is nothing to snear at.So I went for this Big Baby.
And love it!This is my go-to pan, even though it's labeled as a saute, I make everything from stews to pasta sauces to chili in it.It's great for stir-frying loads of veggies, and you can whip up healthy fried rice concoctions with leftover brown rice and freshly sliced veggies with an egg or two scrambled in.Speaking of eggs, for brunches I beat together some eggs and eggwhites, then saute whatever veggies are on hand to fill up the bottom of the pan, pour in the eggs, top with cheese and bake in a 325 F. oven for 20 minutes for the biggest, most delicious fritattas ever.
This pan is so versatile I can cook pasta for two in it, drain the pasta, wipe it out, add olive oil and a little wine and saute greens and garlic, add back the pasta and some broth and voila, pasta prima vera in one pan.Chicken thighs brown well in it, then add barley and broth and some Morrocan seasonings ... OK I'll stop, you get the picture!
It seems like everything I make in this pan comes out better. And this is my first glass lid cookware how fun to see your meal cooking as the steamy little bubbles roll down the inside of the lid!Just be aware that quality cookware needs to be treated well follow manufacturer's instructions no dishwashers, let it come to heat over a medium setting, and clean it gently. The only con I'd issue is that the pan is heavy, but you get a lot of bang for this Kichen Hunk.
I bought this about 4 months ago and use it several times per week. Even though I cook a lot, I am not usually one to shell out over $100 on a single pan. This was totally worth it! This one is a keeper. Truly non-stick, easy to clean, larger size can accommodate a big meal! It is heavy, but this helps with even heating (and heat retention). Looks and feels very well-made, should provide one with a lifetime of culinary delights. We're getting to be good friends, this pan and I. Bon appetit!
UPDATE: Over 2 years later (May 2011) and the pan and I are like BFFs. Still cooking delightful meals, accommodating both small and surprisingly large portions, non-stick in-tact. I stand behind my previous review. Add this to your cookware arsenal and you will not be disappointed.

I've used the Anolon pan with glass lid for more years than you can imagine. (I've even given it as a gift for friends because it is so versatile in the kitchen.) The size 12" is generous for cooking food and I love the fact that it is a non-stick pan (good to keep calories and fat down.) The first design worked well, but this new Advanced design (with helper handles and a secure handled lid) is even BETTER than ever, and it's oven safe, too! One note: You do have to practice care with this pan. (NEVER use metal utensils on it, nor non-stick spray, nor excessively high heat no need for it anyway because it will tear up the non-stick teflon type surface. (The first one that I enjoyed for over 15 years, looked like it went through the war, but I still used it to its final hour!) It is not a stretch to say I use this saute pan daily. This one will last even longer because I intend on doing my part to take care in its handling. It is the main staple in my kitchen equipment supply! Farberware should be notified.I purchased the Farberware 12-Inch Glass Lid thinking it would fit my Farberware 12-Inch Deep Skillet.Silly me.It didn't fit.Not even close. It seems that while the curved side of the skillet arcs down to the base directly from the edge, the lid has a lip that is more or less perpendicular to its edge an incompatible state of affairs. After spending a little time audibly pondering the mental capacity and pedigree of whoever at Farberware was responsible for this SNAFU, I "fine-tuned" the lip of the lid with a pair of blunt nose pliers and thumb/forefinger pressure to achieve an acceptable fit.My wife is satisfied so all is well.
Realizing that a lot of Amazon shoppers probably would not take this course of action, I am submitting this review to advise fellow deep skillet lid seekers to look elsewhere for a lid that fits "out of the box" and to remind everyone that sometimes the 12 inches you're looking for is not the 12 inches you get.So be careful out there.

I have a number of stainless steel Farberware Classic 10" pans and this lid fits them all perfectly including an 8-quart stockpot and a 10" frypan from an old Farberware set, as well as the 10" skillet from their current "Skillet Twin Pack" (SKU #71229). As other reviews have noted, these lids and pans are actually smaller than 10" closer to 9 3/8" (or 24 cm). So if you're looking for lids to fit pans of a different brand, beware.

We have been slowly converting to cast Iron pans with all the bad press on non stick. Who knew, my mother was right after all LOL. Anyhow, this is a really nice pan that came pre seasoned, but I still took the time to preseason it but you don't have to.
