Ecolution Artistry 14 Inch Colossus Pan with Glass Lid

Ecolution Artistry 14 Inch Colossus Pan with Glass LidLadies and Gentlemen, this is a really big pan. If that's not enough to blow your skirts/kilts up, then maybe the super-slick, no-stick, inside-and-out surface will. I put this baby through the paces all week, and I'm really impressed. I had read a few complaints that it had warped for other users. I followed the enclosed instructions, and noticed no problems with warping. Keep in mind, the surface area of this pan is huge and aluminum expands much more than steel or iron with heat it's just a law of physics, not a design flaw so take care when using your pan to not quickly overheat or shock the hot pan with cold liquids, etc. Use your iron and steel pans for that. If you have a smooth-top stove, even the tiniest amount of warping will be noticeable, no matter what pan you use. Getting that out of the way, this pan is fantastic for doubling or even tripling recipes in one pot. There's room for everything and it has a vented lid! I marvel.

Edited to include a re-review 5 months later: Been using this pan several times a week for 5 months and it's holding up great. I am still thrilled with it! I can also confidently claim that it saves energy on top of everything else! Since the surface area is so much bigger, batch cooking is no longer required, and food is browned much quicker when you can spread it in a single layer. This means a meal can be prepared much quicker and the kitchen doesn't heat up as much. I cannot say enough good things about this pan!

Will I ever shut up about this pan? Here's a third edit to profess my deep love for the Colossus. After two full years of nearly constant use, this pan has held up exceptionally well. The non-stick coating is still in great condition, showing no sign of wear. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can never get non-stick cookware to last more than a year, even with proper utensils and hand-washing. I'm so pleased with the Colossus that I purchased a second one just in case anything ever happens to the first.

Why did it take so long for the Ecolution's Colossus Pan to find me?!The Colossus pan has many functions, but I like it most for that two-in-one recipe.I am constantly annoyed when I have to use multiple pans for my recipes, thus making a mess in the kitchen complete with an overflowing sink and dishwasher. The Colossus pan is is deep enough to saute veggies for four people and then add protein pasta, rice or potatoes to complete all of my favorite recipes. In makes my normal life of multitasking life seem simple. One of my favorite new items for the kitchen!

Ecolution Artistry Eco-Friendly 14 Inch Colossus Pan with Glass Lid

I had high hopes for this pan.I had been looking for a pan this size for a long time. After I got the pan I read the instructions on how to use it because I hate pans that warp because I have a glass flat top burner stove, or when the teflon peels off and I wanted this pan to last as long as possible, I also threw out all my other old pans.I obeyed the instructions and use the pan on the lowest heat setting first and slowly increased so as to not mess it up but it still warped on me after about 10 dinners and now it's shot.It was kind of expensive at $25 for one pan but I thought it would be worth it if it worked well like it said it would. But it didn't it says you can return it with an $8 check if it is defective but they claim it is because over heating and I know it wasn't but how can I prove that? If it worked well I was going to buy the whole collection of them but not now I will never but one again.

It looks like a nice pan, but we couldn't test it out, because it came with scratches on the non-stick surface as if someone had used a metal utensil on it.I'm assuming it's a returned product that no one inspected before sending out to someone else?I wanted to have it replaced to see if we had better luck, since it is the perfect shape and size for cooking some of the larger things we like, but it was out of stock. Now I have to do more research and find a new pan.:(

Follow-up:

The pan came back in stock right after our gift certificate was credited. We reordered it, figuring we should give them another chance.Maybe it is how Amazon ships it, but the new one had issues too:

1) It wasn't wrapped like the first one, making me suspect it was previously opened by someone else.

2) It was dented and the lid would not fit on the pan snugly and close all the way.

The pan looks great otherwise, but I wish their quality control was much better.Getting two with scratches/dents in a row is kind of ridiculous.

Somehow, this pan was bigger than I expected it to be.

This is not a problem at all, aside from not fitting where I planned to store it.

I don't find this much of a problem as this is the sort of pan that I don't mind leaving

on top the stove for easy access, since I use it so often, for every meal in fact.

I love this pan. I bought it to replace a different brand of everyday pan

that I had purchased years ago. That was a great pan, smaller.. no lid.. I improvised.

This pan is great for cooking for two or ten. The handles stay cool.

It cleans very easily. It is nice looking, and the lid fits well.

The description says it is okay to put it in the dishwasher.. but I don't

know why anyone would want to. It cleans in seconds with soapy water and a

paper towel.

I have used it for chili, fried chicken and eggs. I plan to use it for many more things.

IF you have a family, small or large, I recommend this pan. Even if you do not have a family, but like to cook

enough for more than one meal, as I do, then I recommend this pan. The price is right, the pan is good, easy to clean. That is all that matters to me :)

Clipper 215-00032 10-Inch Teflon Platinum Grip Fry PanThis little 7" pan is heavy duty for sure. I have a commercial 8" that is lighter, but has a slightly better non-stick coating, but this little guy is fine too. Nice balance, great handle and built like a brick. Can't go wrong with this for small jobs. Get one soon..

Solid restaurant grade construction, thick aluminum pan distributes heat evenly. Silicon handle won't melt if you throw it in the oven for a bit. I bought the 10" and I like it enough 'm going to get the 12" too. Teflon surface is slick. No teflon pan lasts forever, but this one is cheap enough to replace once the surface wears out.

Earth Pan II Hard Anodized Nonstick Skillet

Earth Pan II Hard Anodized Nonstick Skillet, 8-InchI've been using this pan for cooking eggs every morning for several weeks now. It's working well, but to keep it that way, I plan to

cook only eggs in it and use the minimumamount of heat needed.Sometimes it does stick a little but comes loose with a little push.I do use "better butter" (part butter and part canola)and try to spread a thin coat also a bit up the sides sometimes by using a pastry brush. There seems to be no pan that maintains a perfect non-stick ability. This pan is heavy which does make it function better.I bought it because of the resaonable price, because the non-stick surface is supposed to be more eco-friendly, and because of the Farberware name.

bought it as I did not want to buy teflon.it was difficult to clean from the start -it didn't feel like non stick. I used it to make omelet, and heat some indian tortillas---the gray surface turned brown --with 2-3 uses and now 1 mth later the pan is completely black. It was a total waste of money. I never put it in the dishawsher. I don;t want cookware to last forever but this didn't last even a wk .. would never recommend to buy it .

I wanted an Earthpan because I heard great reviews of them in Consumer Reports.I am a pretty serious home chef and was willing to pay an inordinate amount of money for a non-stick pan that cooked well and cleaned easily. So I was pleasantly suprised to see this was reasonably priced. This pan cooks well but the pan is not easy to clean at all.I have had to use steel wool to get this pan clean. That's sucks.I mean I had to get out all kinds of elbow grease to clean this pan and I was upset by that.

My Earth Pan Hard Anodized Nonstick 10 inch skillet was a big disappointment.Because I have had many non-stick fry pans over the years and I realize that their life span is short even though we follow all the directions, I thought that this product seemed more durable and more able to fit my needs.I followed all the many directions for use (including ones we weren't warned about because we have a Corning stove top)but it was purchased August 18 online from Amazon, and here it is May 18, 2011 and a cast iron skillet compares favorably to it (and would have been much cheaper).

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 8-by-11-3/4-Inch Rectangular Roaster

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 8-by-11-3/4-Inch Rectangular Roaster, CherryAs a classically trained chef, I have an extensive collection of kitchen items not always found in a typical home. I tend to think of kitchen products from a professional point of view, although I enjoy many items made for home use. Le Creuset is uncommon in professionally kitchens; however they manufacture quality and effective products.

Le Creuset's porcelain enameled cast iron cooking vessels are cast from molten iron formed in single use sand moulds.Covering cast iron with porcelain enamel not only looks good, but has multiple benefits. The enamel, being a solid coating, is one of the most hygienic surfaces to cook on, does not stain, absorb odors, retain flavors, and is easy to clean eliminating the need for seasoning and preventing rust issues. Limit cooking tools to plastic or wood to prevent damaging the enamel.

Cast iron is a highly efficient material which absorbs and distributes heat efficiently. For this reason, it is recommended to use on low to medium heat. There are a few exceptions like boiling water where cooking on high heat is appropriate and okay. Otherwise, cooking with high heat may cause food to stick, discolor the enamel coating, or unevenly cook the food. Cast iron also retains heat, keeping food warm while serving.

This pan holds 2 1/2 quarts of food, measures 7 3/4 x 11 1/4 x 2 inches internally, and weighs 6 pounds 10 ounces.2 1/2 quarts will typically feed 4 6 people when it comes to casseroles, consider the larger roaster to feed more.Except for roasts, the roasting pan tends to do best if at least 3/4 full.Any less and you may overwhelm your food with the pan's evenly dispersed heat.

Two features people tend to complain about are the cost and weight. The cost seems steep compared to common pans made from other materials. Compare to quality cookware, and the cost may seem more reasonable. When comparing to the old cast iron pans past generations have used for cornbread and camping, Le Creuset seems expensive. However the manufacturing process requires making a mould for each and every pan produced. They then go through the enameling process before shipping these heavy pans. If you take what goes into making and distributing these high quality cast iron products, the cost tends to make sense. Then consider this pan will easily last a lifetime when taken care of.Additionally cast iron is a heavy material. The enamel doesn't add much to the weight, when comparing to a similar cast iron product, the weight is going to be comparable.

I find the many benefits of Le Creuset make this pan a worthy purchase. This pan adds a desirable crispy texture to dishes like mac-n-cheese. Add a roasting rack and this pan is perfect for roasting chickens. The enamel is attractive, while the cast iron keeps the food warm for serving.Cleaning and caring for this dishwasher safe pan is easy. When properly taken care of, this pan will last a lifetime.

Knowing the benefits and the pleasure I get from using Le Creuset, I don't hesitate to recommend this pan.If you choose to purchase this pan, and use it for its strengths you won't be disappointed.

PROS:

Efficient heat absorption and distribution

Hygienic enamel cooking surface

Does not stain, absorb odors, or retain flavors

Easy to clean when not abused or misused

Can be transferred from stove top to the oven to the table

Dishwasher safe

Can easily last a lifetime

CONS:

Its heavy, as cast iron tends to be, weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces

Although I am not a professional chef I do take my cooking seriously.Over the years I have invested in quality German and Japanese knives, French copper pans and, of course, Le Creuset cookware.Although these enameled cast iron pans are not as versatile as some of my copperware they are none the less indispensable.

Since cast iron is not as conductive as copper or aluminum it heats up and cools down much more slowly. This characteristic makes it unsuitable for sautéing or for when you need a pan that is highly responsive. However it's even heating and retention of heat makes it perfect for casseroles, roasts, mac-n-cheese, potato dishes, etc.I have been in love with Le Creuset's French ovens for years and use them for chili, stews and other dishes that benefit from long, slow cooking.

I had this item on my Amazon Wish List for quite a while.I could have bought it for myself but it's one of those things that you appreciate more when it is a gift.In France Le Creuset collections are often bequeathed to thankful children from parents that have cooked with them for decades. My oldest son bought this for me from Amazon as a Christmas present.I promised him that he could have it when I was done with it (hopefully a long time from now).

A couple of things to be aware of: at 8" x 11.75" this is smaller than the standard 9"x13" Pyrex dishes that are often used for the recipes that this pan is better suited for.Perhaps it is because Europeans generally serve smaller portion than we do in the US.Another thing to mention is that cast iron tends to be the heaviest cookware available. This roaster can top 13 15 lbs. or more when filled with dense food such as potatoes au gratin or a good sized cut of meat.

Yes, this is a relatively expensive product but bear in mind that you never regret having the best (at least not once you have finished paying for it). This roaster is actually a pleasure to clean (and I don't say that lightly).I will have it for the rest of my life and then it will be passed on to my children along with some very warm memories of meals past.

It's big, it's heavy, and you'll do more with it than you did before with any other "casserole" pan.Le Creuset is the creme de-la creme of cookware but if you aren't a fan of cast iron, you may want to look at their stoneware instead.

The enamel on this baker is thick and hard and while easy to clean, is very resistant to damage and stains. The cast iron means that heat is evenly dispersed. This baker goes from "prep" in the refrigerator (or freezer) straight into the oven and right back out again. The only thing I wish it had is a lid of some sort so that it can be used more effectively as a "take along" pan because it holds heat so well.

I use this baker to make casseroles, broil meat, bake cakes, cook poultry, etc...It can even be used on the stove top if you're in a pinch due to an already full oven or if your stove top cookware is already in use. It's one of the most versatile pieces in my kitchen and was well worth the investment as it will last a lifetime.

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set, Orange

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set, OrangeI bought the set about 4 months ago and absolutly love it.It is sooo easy to clean, and I don't normally like to handwash, and it cooks great. The orange handles are great especially if you have kids that like to help you cook.I have since bought the 8 qt. pasta to add to my original set. Can't say enough good things about this cookware.

I received this cookware December 06 and have been cooking with it everyday since then. It is truly an amazing cookware set. It goes from stove top to oven with no problem. It looks nice hanging on my pot rack in my kitchen even after all of the use it gets from me and my family. The pots cook evenly and the food does not stick making clean up spectacularly fast and easy. I was lucky enough to receive and add to my collection this past Christmas the larger, deep oval skillet for large family dinners. I highly recommend this set for anyone from beginning cooks to very experienced ones.

Nice construction, feel and looks but beware that this set can NOT be used with a flame higher than medium.I was dissapointed that the only time this warning became apparent was after I unwrapped all of the pieces and found the instructions--this certainly wasn't clear in any of the product descriptions that I read.

This is the best pots and pans set I ever had. They are super easy to clean up..nothing sticks to them! Everything cooks evenly and nice. I am very happy and also bought the other matching pieces to this set.

Want Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set, Orange Discount?

I was looking for an upgrade to my cheap pots from college. There are many brands out there that are a lot more expensive, but you cannot go wrong with this set of cookware. I have had my set for a month now and have used it every day for dinner. Besides the orange handles (that are great grips, by the way), these pots are beautiful and of great quality. The entire set comes with glass lids, and the range of sizes is perfect for a single person or an entire family. I highly recommend this item for anyone, whether a regular cook or an experimental chef. The pots are easy to wash (by hand only!), are aesthetically pleasing, and make my food taste amazing. I have not burned anything, as the aluminum helps evenly distribute heat.

I have cooked everything in these pots including potatoes, breakfast foods, stove casseroles, soups, pastas, sauteed veggies, shrimp, you name it. If you need a new set of pots and pans that will make your meals a delight to eat AND make, then I recommend this set. Rachael Ray uses these pots/pans on her own show, as well, which speaks for the quality and value you will have in your own kitchen. Unlike other non-stick pots with one can use metal utensils without risk of damaging the inside, as it lacks the teflon or enamel non-stick coating. This also allows you to add more heat to what you're cooking.

One con might be not being able to wash the pots/pans in the dishwasher. I do not mind this as I've never washed any of my cookware that way. Just be aware that if you are not a hand-washer you will be stuck doing so anyway. Even so, the nonstick (but not coated) surface makes it a breeze to wash with some soap and water. No need for scrubbing or scouring pads. Your pots will be good as new to use for the next meal. Besides this I do not see anything to write a negative review about. This will definitely get you excited to cook and try new things!

Cuisinart 77-7 Chef's Classic Stainless 7-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart 77-7 Chef's Classic Stainless 7-Piece Cookware SetI purchased this set about six weeks ago am very pleased with it to date.I enjoy cooking and cook most meals "from scratch," rarely relying on anything pre-packaged for a meal, so these pots and pans get a workout on a daily basis.Since purchasing them I've cooked dishes from oatmeal to pork tenderloin, squash soup to rice pilaf.

The set is good looking, the lids fit perfectly, the pot handles are comfortable to grip even with a full pot (much better than my one Calphalon pan).In my kitchen, if it isn't dishwasher safe, it is evicted, and these pots and pans do just fine in the dishwasher, unlike the aforementioned Calphalon. The pans are satisfyingly weighty, yet well balanced and the long pot handles stay cool to the touch (unless they are too close to another burner or the oven vent). The lid handles do get hot, but I always have a potholder handy.

Cooking:I find the cookware is very responsive to my gas range; the pans conduct heat very efficiently and it is essential when using these pans to keep that in mind.I recommend starting with a lower temperature than you think you need and increasing the heat if necessary until you become accustomed to the way the pans respond to heat. The pans heat very evenly, I've successfully melted chocolate with no burning on the lowest heat setting, and rice cooks perfectly at a low simmer with the lid firmly in place.I prefer these over non-stick pans when sautéing, these pans allow good browning which leaves yummy bits behind for deglazing into a sauce; these pans perform well in that capacity. The rolled rims mean liquids pour driplessly from the pan, a feature I find extremely valuable. The entire set is oven safe and I find that also an excellent feature. You can quickly sear a pork tenderloin and then pop the skillet right in the oven to roast it to perfection. One less dish to clean, all the cooked-on bits in one pan to deglaze.

Cleaning:I have not had any problems with cleaning the pans after use.Following the manufacturers recommendation, I add a little water to the warm pan and leave it to soak in the sink during dinner. Then the pan is loaded in the dishwasher with the rest of the dishes.Occasionally food may stick around the rivets, but the dishwasher usually takes care of that with ease. The manufacturer suggests avoiding citrus dishwashing products so I do.The mirror like finish is beautiful, but this is actually my least favorite feature of the set.Fingerprints and water spots show up readily. This in no way interferes with the cooking value of the set, but if you are concerned with the way the set looks, this is a flaw.If you must have it, a quick wipe with Barkeepers Friend or Cameo polish will restore the mirror finish.

The set includes a 1-1/2& 3-quart saucepan, 8-quart stockpot, and 10-inch skillet.Lids for the saucepans and stockpot are included.I received the bonus 2-quart sautee pan with my set which has proved very useful.I would have preferred a 12 inch skillet to the 10 inch but even so I find the set an excellent value.I saw no need of an 8 inch skillet which is why I chose this set instead of the 10 piece set.I hope Cuisinart will be adding to the open stockavailable in this line.I have the 16-quart stockpot with steamer basket and pasta insert, but would love to find a pasta insert and steamer for the 8 quart stock-pot.

I think this set is an excellent value, and will satisfy me for years to come treated with a bit of care.I am replacing a set of Copper-bottomed Revere Ware my mother received as a wedding gift in 1950 (and used daily until she gave them to me 20 years ago), andI am hoping these will last as long, if not longer.

If you are looking for the quality of All-Clad or Calphalon but not necessarily willing to fork over the dough, then this is a great set for the money. Fast, even heating; good looks; versatility (stove to oven to even freezer, if need be...); and a decent combination of pieces in the set made it the perfect choice for me, after nearly a year of research.

I don't find it as difficult to clean as other reviewers have commented. I will say that the mirror finish does show wear after just a few uses. It's not bad, by any means, but just know they won't stay perfect if you plan to use them. A few notes...

*They heat up fast! Don't ever leave the pan to heat up and do something else while waiting. You'll be at the temp you need lickety split.

*It's a good idea to soak them a bit after cooking something sticky--then cleanup is a breeze.

*Lid handles do get hot when covering to allow something to simmer or boil, but I've found my handles stay cool enough to take off the stove with no problem.

*I have yet to stick them in the dishwasher, but I know you can, so that's a plus. I have a tendency to soak them, wash them, and dry them right away so as not to get the water spots on the pretty finish that others have commented on.

All in all, I'm very happy with this set. After years of hand-me-downs with handles falling off, dented sides, and nonstick coating that wears off in no time, I feel safe and healthy cooking with my new Cuisinart.

Any shopper who is name conscious should stop for a moment and seriously consider this seven piece set. Cuisinart, a mainstay in the kitchen offers the cook in the household this wonderful 7 piece cookware set and Amazon.com offers it at an exceptional price.

The set features 18-10 Stainless Steel construction that makes each piece feel substantial. The design also aids in convection and, thus, requires less heat from the stove top but that Heat is not transferred to the handle making the handle cool to the touch.

Each piece features a high shine and bears the brand name on the side. Each piece is also rated up to 550 degrees which means it could double as bakeware.

The only thing I would have liked would have been a 12 inch rather than a 10 inch skillet but with that said, the 10 inch skillet is a great piece.

Santa Fe QM2R 900-Watt Quesadilla Maker

Santa Fe QM2R 900-Watt Quesadilla MakerThis Quesadilla maker lets you get creative with your quesadillas. Of course you can make quesadillas on the stove-top in a pan like some reviewers suggested...but this makes it easy, no-mess and you don't have to stand at the stove top to flip, so you can bring it to the table and have a tabletop party.

What I love is that I can make quesadillas with very little oil in this maker as opposed to stove top. The quesadillas come out crispy and with distinct segments that I can quickly cut with a pizza cutter. I love serving the wedges as snacks at cocktail parties, especially as they come out crispy and sealed and can be served as a finger food.

There is also no end to fillings. My favorites 1) spinach/sundried tomatoes/cheese or 2)mushrooms/red peppers/grilled chicken/provolone cheese or 3)mashed potatoes seasoned with red onions/green chilli/cilantro/a dash of any good spice mix/a light sprinkling of cheese 4) roasted corn/red pepper/black beans/cheese 5) broccoli/chicken/cheese 6) spicy turkey mince cooked Indian "keema" style with green peas and tomatoesas you can see the list of yummy ingredients goes on and on.

I just prep the surfaces with a quick spray of olive/canola oil and don't use much cheese. So much better than the calorie rich quesadillas you get in restaurants. You can even use any tasty leftovers/casseroles as stuffing for the quesadillas. My family and friends simply love the quesadilla parties where I lay out many ingredients and they can mix and match and make their own quesadillas.

Some tips: If you use cheese try using the natural cheese which creates less mess than the melting processed variety. Also buy the bigger tortillas so that the whole surface is covered and the edges are neatly sealed. If you must use a small tortilla, put less filling right in the center and go very easy on the cheese, or it will seep out and create a mess. If you do get a mess, it is very easy to clean it off with a damp paper towel right after you take out your quesadilla.

Napoleon Dynamite's grandma would be proud to own one of these!Works great. One little tip before you head to the grocery store... you must use the LARGE "burrito size" tortillas with this.If you try to use smaller tortillas like "taco size" or "fajita size," they won't extend out to the part of the grilling surface that seals the edges and your melting cheese will flow out the sides. The instructions say you must use a 10" diameter torilla. That's usually sold as "burrito size."I agree with Diane that an on/off switch would have been a nice feature, but it still works wonderfully.

I love this product! Try it with the flavored tortilla wraps they have out now, I had a great spinach tortilla quesadilla with green chilis, awesome, after that I had to buy one for myself and I don't regret it. It preheats within five minutes, flop a full-size burrito tortilla or wrap on there, load it with fillings, throw another one on close the lid, let it heat and there you are: lunch in under fifteen minutes, it's that easy. Since I am very lazy about any sort of cooking, this has made my lunches so much more fulfilling. Another note, so far, none of the fillings I've used have stuck to the nonstick surface and it is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth or sponge. Just don't overfill the tortillas or they won't seal at the edges and the fillings will leak out.

I have a cheese quesadilla fanatic for a husband and never could get his approval when it came to making his favorite at home. Tried the oven and broiler method and just ended up with either a soggy mess or a burnt beyond edible trash can item. Well, I happened to stumble upon this handy little item. Wow, has this made my life easier. Better yet, He can now make his own. It makes the most wonderful quesadillas ever. Just a few minutes in the machine and you have the perfect snack. They are sealed and have the perfect consistancy. And don't know why but stay warmer longer than others. I figure this is due to the sealing of the tortilla. Lodge CRS15 Pre-Seasoned Carbon Steel Skillet, 15-inch

Lodge CRS15 Pre-Seasoned Carbon Steel Skillet, 15-inchThis pan is the same design and manufacture of the smaller 8", 10" and 12" Carbon Steel pre-seasoned skillets from Lodge.Formerly only producing cast iron-only cooking utensils, Lodge adds these carbon steel pans which are a hit with professional chefs already and will add to your cookware collection with great benefits.

This 15" pan mimics the Spanish-style Paella pan with the wide cooking surface and sloped, shallow sides, making it easy to sautee meats and vegetables. The two handles make it easy to carry from stove to table for direct serving.

Heat the skillet slowly, add a generous amount of cooking oil (I have started using only light olive oil or EVOO and sometimes with a combination of a pat of butter;Do not use spray...the soy lecithin leaves that nasty, brown gunk-like residue) and enjoy a great pan.Wash with hot water and a brush.Try not to use dish detergent unless absolutely needed and for goodness sakes, keep it out of the dishwasher.Re-heat the pan on the stove, drop some light olive oil (or flax oil) in the pan, get it hot, wipe it down with a paper towel and let it cool. The pan's seasoning will continue to develop over the years, just like the cast iron pans.

I purchased this skillet through Amazon's MyHabit site. I was happy with it taking it out of the box and anxious to use it, but unfortunately mine arrived warped. The center is convex shaped, rising above the outside edges. All oils and liquids run to the edges and pool there, scorching what is in the center. After three attempts to cook various things with it, I've deemed it unusable because it is impossible to heat evenly and, therefore, cook evenly. Maybe I just received a lemon. Too bad.

I was looking for a pan to replace my non-stick frying pan because of the research I have seen that shows the non-stick surface is a health hazard.I have used cast iron in the past, but even seasoned, cleaning was difficult it seemed. This pan cleans easily with a stiff brush.I cooked scrambled eggs and didn't get to clean the pan until it was cold.I put a little water in the pan, heated it just 3-4 minutes, used the stiff brush, and good as new!

I read that spraying with Pam was a good idea before each use, and I have done that.

I am definitely going to be buying more of these pieces,

Electric Skillet with Diamond Coat

Presto 06850 16-inch Electric SkilletThis is our second skillet like this. The first lasted for years before the finish started coming off of the interior so we decided to buy another just like it. The skillet cooks evenly and the heat is easy to control. We purchased through Amazon and J&R Music was the retailer who actually got the order. J&R ships items in the original manufacturers box wrapped only in plastic for protection. The first unit was damaged during shipment and that is when the nightmare began. It was supposed to have been a Christmas gift for my wife and I made that clear when I reported the damage back in early December. They drug their feet making promises of second day delivery and better packaging on the replacement. Bottom line we didn't receive the replacement until December 29th. It wasn't shipped second day as promised, it didn't make it in time for Christmas as promised and once again the box arrived damaged because they only wrapped it in plastic again. Buy the skillet but avoid J&R. Those people just don't get it!

I have had my mod# 06850 for about six weeks now and I really like it. I had a GE before this but the non-stick coating just wore out in 4 years of use. That old GE skillet taught me to be very careful with the coating and now I always use soft tools and no scouring of the pan (no need). If the pan gets really dirty soak it, never use scotch brite (green abrasive fuss) type sponge pads. I use the Presto on a daily basis and just love the very small amount of oil needed (NEVER heat non-stick dry) to cook things like eggs. Before getting this pan I tried another GE but the coating has been changed to an anodized aluminum type that is not worth a damn. This is the one for me, but don't scratch it!

I got an electric skillet in 1975 and used it until it quit many years later; then I didn't have one and didn't realize how much I missed it. I have this one now, and it is perfect to make pancakes in for one thing; I also use it for casseroles and keeps it warm when done cooking.I really like it for that reason; when family members can't eat together, it keeps it warm and tasty. It is an easy clean up and can all be immersed in water except for the probe that plugs into the wall and then into the pan base.Get one of the skillet cookbooks to go along with it; great gift for the son or daughter in college too.Casseroles, spaghetti, sloppy joe, grilled sandwiches, fry meats like hamburger or pork steaks, fry an egg and bacon, etc.Excellent for party buffet warmer. I will never be without it.

We purchased this skillet to replace a worn-out Presto skillet. The non-stick surface is working well. The large size has been very ample for our needs. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the lack of a variable vent in the lid.

This electric skillet is fantastic. The non-stick interior and exterior is very high quality, the temperature is more even than any electric skillet I've ever used, and the larger size is extremely useful.I highly recommend this skillet to everyone!

Earthchef Montane Frying Pan

BergHOFF Earthchef Montane Frying Pan, 10.25'The Berghoff seems well constructed. I have not tested it on a high technology stove, but it looks like it was built to work with one. In use it comes pretty close to Teflon in performance at Teflon's recommended operating temperatures, although just a little bit less non-stick than Teflon. So far it washes as easily as Teflon. The Berghoff can be used at temperatures that exceed Teflon's limits, although high heat may not be the best way to cook. There is no dedicated lid, although a Nordic Ware Restaurant 10 inch Brushed Stainless-Steel Lid fits pretty well. The bottom plate picks up some residue at high temp on my stove, but the exterior's durability seems confidence inspiring so far. Long term durability and functionality of the interior remains untested.

Pasted below is a mini-diary of some comparisons:

Stove is an ordinary, four-burner, electric coil stove.

2/1/12

Berghoff and Orgreenic treated with high-temp safflower oil, 25 minutes medium to medium-high heat.

2/2/12

Eggs, low-medium to medium heat.Light application of olive oil.

Cooking:All required a spatula to flip.

Farberware & Orgreenic tied.

Berghoff slightly more sticky with thin bits on egg clinging to pan.

Cleanup: Interiors of all easily cleaned up with soapy water and soft sponge, more easily than the nylon Good Cook spatula.

Exteriors: The ceramic pans show some persistent residue from the previous seasoning. The metal exterior bottom of the Berghoff looks a little better than the gray exterior bottom of the Orgreenic, which is showing a lot of little chips.

The metal bottom of the Farberware pan looks cleaner, probably because as a Teflon pan settings higher than medium are always avoided.

2/4/12

Eggs, cheddar cheese, sliced garlic, cayenne pepper. Between medium and medium-high heat. Light application of olive oil.

Pans rotated between burners to try to equalize cooking temperature.

Both required a spatula, but non-stick performance was about equally good for the Berghoff and Orgreenic. The Orgreenic seems to cook a little faster. The Farberware pan did not participate, because it is assumed it would probably be non-stick enough up to medium heat, but it should not be used above that setting.

Cleanup: Interiors of both easily cleaned up with soapy water and soft sponge. The gray exterior bottom of the Orgreenic is showing more wear.

2/5/12

I gave both pans another treatment with safflower oil, this time at high heat. My burners smoke, but the oil does not.

Light application of olive oil. Medium high setting. Farberware Teflon pan is excused from participating. Thin steak, no lids, add onions near end, add Salsa Brava. Orgreenic seems to cook a little faster again. Berghoff shows more stuck, cooked, meat juice residue.

Cleanup: Although the Berghoff looks a little uglier going into the sink, interiors of both equally easily cleaned up with soapy water and soft sponge.

Olive oil, potato slices (about ¼'thick), medium-high heat.Orgreenic seems to brown them faster than the Berghoff. Very non-stick with both pans.

2/9/12

Light application of olive oil. Medium high setting. Farberware Teflon pan is excused from participating. Thin pork loin, no lids. After meat removed, followed immediately by sliced potato. The Orgreenic seems to cook a little faster again, but it is producing more blackened residue, and it looks a little uglier than the Berghoff going into the sink. The Berghoff washes easily with soapy water and soft sponge. The Orgreenic mostly cleans well, but some traces of blackened residue are resistant. The rougher side of the sponge seems to clean it off okay.

I reseasoned both pans at medium high with canola oil. Unlike the other oils, this one does smoke, more so with the Orgreenic pan, and canola has a rather foul, fishy odor at that temperature. It also seems to cook up a little patch of previously unseen brownish residue on the Orgreenic pan. After cooling, an application of the rough side of the sponge and hot water seems to remove it.

2/10/12

Sitram Profiserie 9½-Inch Stainless Steel Lid has arrived from Amazon.

Gave both ceramic pans another treatment with safflower oil to help flush out any remaining canola oil.

Light application of olive oil. Medium setting. Frying pan lids. Sunnyside up eggs, one each, all three pans.

Both the Berghoff and the Orgreenic need a little bit of assistance from the spatula, but then slide easily. The Berghoffhas a little bit more residue. The egg is able to slide on the Teflon Farberware pan without the spatula.

Cleanup: Equally easy from this experiment. The Orgreenic is showing a tiny bit of persistent dark residue on the interior edge near the handle, probably from the previous experiment.

Exteriors, bottom: The Farberware shows hardly any wear or residue. Both ceramic pans show some persistent residue, possibly caused by higher temperature experiments. The Orgreenic's plain bottom with the same finish as the sides is showing a lot of little scrapes.

Measurements:

Farberware Nonstick Aluminum Egg Poacher (with poacher and lid removed) has outside diameter of the lid lip of about 7 7/8 inches, nearly vertical sides 391g

Telebrands (5827-6) 10" Orgreenic Frying Pan has outside diameter of about 10 inches, curved and sloped sides.665g

BergHOFF Earthchef 10.25" Montane Frying Pan has outside diameter of about 10 7/8 inches, curved and sloped sides. 973g

Lids: The Farberware has a dedicated glass lid.

The RSVP Stainless Steel Universal Lid-7 to 12 Inch sits flat enough on either ceramic pan, but on each the angled handle forces it to be off-center.

The Nordic Ware Restaurant 10 inch Brushed Stainless-Steel Lid fits well on the Berghoff, but the inner portion is too wide to sit well on the Orgreenic.

Sitram Profiserie 9.5-Inch Stainless Steel Lid fits the Orgreenic pan. Not perfectly, a little bit wobbly, but best so far for this pan. If they made a 9 inch lid, it would probably be just right.

I was quite happily making fried eggs with almost no oil just minutes after getting this pan. Nothing stuck, and the pan was quite easy to clean with just a wet sponge once it cooled down. Just as easy as any PTFE-based pan I've used in the past. The pan itself is well-designed, and it works perfectly on my induction cooktop. (The first non-PTFE non-stick pan I've found that DOES do this successfully!)

I've noticed that most of these non-PTFE pans get very good reviews at first, but often start breaking down within a few months. I'll be sure to edit my review after a while either way, to note whether the pan is failing or not, and adjust the rating if needed...

Apr 30, 2012 edit: I've had the pan for about 6 months now. The non-stick coating is holding up quite well, in my opinion, though it does seem to have degraded slightly since it was new. I've noticed that small bits of food will occasionally stick...but these just wipe off with a sponge.

My only complaint (as noted in the comments) is that the bottom does bulge a bit towards the center, so liquids pool around the edges somewhat...making it easier to burn things in the center if you're not attentive. I'm otherwise extremely happy with this pan, though!

Scan Pan used to be my go to pan but not any more. The Earth Chef pan is now my go to pan. It's non stick coating is far better than any of the others I've had including Calphalon, Cuisinart and All Clad. I use scrambled eggs as my test for non stick success. This pan does it all from searing to sauteing and it's reasonably priced compared to the big names. I highly recommend it.
