Weight Watchers 3-piece Nonstick Aluminum Saute and Skillet Set

Weight Watchers 3-piece Nonstick Aluminum Saute and Skillet SetBoth my wife and I enjoy cooking, and are always looking for good pans at reasonable prices, since we use then regularly. We purchased this 12" pan as a separate unit.First time using it we were cooking delicate French Toast and cheese sandwiches for breakfast, a low temp situation.We thought the micro machined grooves on the bottom of the pan would enhance heat transfer. Wrong....what it did was go round-bottom while on the stove, rendering heat transfer, ability to keep it stabilized, and cooking times useless. This pan is poorly designed and any pan that warps at medium heat is sheer junk. Better elsewhere skip this stuff!

hmm i love these and i'm not sure why other people's items broke so easily.I got them as a gift last christmas (he bought them off groupons) and i love them much more than the new set i recently purchased that's 3 times more expensive than these.

After a couple months the handles on both pans cracked in half.

I dropped the lid and the side folded in like it was tin foil.

What a piece of sheet!!!

Cheap pans purchased at the discount store are better quality than these.

If I could rate these a negative number I would.

Overall it is a lightweight and cheap, you get what you pay for.The skillet pan the one that I use most often broke just after 3 months.One day I noticed the handle was cracked and then the next it just fell off.I never put it in the oven, so the only thing I can think of is that I run the dishwasher on "Sanitizer" so maybe even through it says it is dishwasher safe, the super hot water cracked the handle.It claims to have a limited lifetime warranty but I can't find any way actually get in contact with weight watchers to see the details.I'd say save your money and buy a slightly more expensive pan, it will last longer and save you money in the end.

KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set

KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set ()OK, I am a bachelor, I live alone with the cat.OTOH, I am actually a fair hand in the kitchen. However, my pots and pans are a collection of thriftshop bargains and hand-me-downs, no two of which match, and several of which aren't in very good shape.

So, when I had a chance to get this cool new cookware set from the famed KitchenAid folks, I jumped on it.

And, I am glad I did.This is a pretty "cool" set(and "cool" has a double-meaning here). Each piece is well crafted and solid. No thin cheapo stuff here.

You get two saucepans, a stockpot and a sauté panall with good solid glass covers with the neatest silicon rubber seals I have seen. And, two fry pans.

The glass covers allow you to watch your food, while sealing in the heat and steam when needed.They also don't rattle.

They also come with a silicon rubber pad under the heavy handle. This means that a heavy pot doesn't cut into your hand when lifting, it decreases fatigue. It also protected my hand from getting burnt when I forgot the potholderNICE! That's the other "cool" part.

(Still, one should always use hand protection anyway. "Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon.").

They also clean up just fine, just about as well as "non-stick". Just a spritz of oil spray and they were spotless with little effort. I even "torture tested" one, leaving stuff overnite and it still cleaned up spotless.

Now, in this paean of praise, I do want to say one thingI still like my old inherited cast iron frypan (It's older than I am!).I think it does a better job even than these stainless steel & aluminum marvels for certain fry jobs, like steaks (And I do like a good steak!).But of course, seasoning and maintaining good cast iron is a long term process, and not for everyone. However, for me, for this set, I would have preferred one more saucepan and one less frypan.

Gorgeous set, perfect for as a giftwedding, housewarming or that bachelor you may know.

I have dropped off all my old stuff to the Salvation Army folks.... except my cast iron, of course!

()We were really excited to get this set.

Unpacking them, we thought these will be great to use:

The handles are sturdy and easy to grip

The handles have hard-rubber like material underneath that make them easy to grab and not so hot

The steel is brilliant and the finishing fantastic

The thickness of the metal makes them feel high class and very sturdy

The problem...

We were cooking some vegetables and put the lid on the skillet. Not an uncommon thing to do, but when we checked the pot, the lid was stuck!

It wasn't that easy to work with when the pan was so hot, so we let it cool thinking that the pan and the lid would come unstuck. Nope.

Big problem, we were going out of town the next day. So not only did we not have the food we cooked, we had to put the pan in the fridge to try to work on it when we got back from our trip.

This was not a good way to get going with the set.

Even when the pan was completely cooled, we couldn't get the lid off. We tried running it under cold water, hot water, we were pulling very hard to try to get the lid off, and no go.

Finally after getting back from our trip, we were able to fit the edge of a spoon between the rubber part of the lid and the pan and pry the lid off.

Whew. We'd be careful to not let that happen again...right?

Well, it happened again with one of the pots and the lid. The lid got stuck and wouldn't come off and we were trying to watch for to prevent it from happening!

The trick to getting the pans and lids unstuck, in case it happens to you, is to get the edge of a sturdy spoon, and to place it at the rubber part of the lid just over the handle of the pot, then you can use the pot's handle for leverage to pop the top off.

It wouldn't be such a big deal, but these are very nice cookware pieces. You'd think that this sort of thing would have been tested for.

So if lids suctioned to their pans is something you don't mind, go for. If not, get ready to pump some iron, er, steel.

()I couldn't be more pleased with this cook set. As I continue to use it I will update this review. There are a couple other sets out there that are close competition so I wanted to be clear on what makes this set different for me. I'm a single guy who doesn't always cook daily, but is not afraid to tackle "advanced" cooking techniques and real homemade from scratch food when I get the urge. I want to give a complete review so you understand what kind of cooking I do and how I use the cookware to best understand if it may fit your needs.

My background with cookware:

I'm normally a Farberware and T-Fal user, not the cheapest, not the most expensive and I've been eyeing upgrading my essential cookware for some time. Specifically-as my cooking skills advance I could use pans that can also go in the oven-which my current T Fal and Farberware cannot. Doing dicing in the pan is a no-go on the nonstick surfaces (I've ruined some, knowing I shouldn't do it, but needing to), so the French skillets in stainless in this kit was very welcomed.

What you get:

The description is accurate on "what & how many", but I wanted to outline the experience. From opening the box I was struck by the beauty of this cookware-very visually appealing, and could easily be displayed in your kitchen. If you have no option than to hang pans, these look really really nice. It's all very thick and durable, but at the same time does not feel too heavy at all. The weight seems just right, and well balanced from side to side. Even from sight, a pan on pan comparison left me ready to donate my old cookware for this set.Of course I didn't, and will continue to use th new set to see how well I like it.

The aluminum disc in the bottom of the pans is really a step up from what I'm used to (I attached a picture)-quite thick, and does do a great job of even heating. The handles and lids have silicone rubber seals and grips, which not only looks but feels premium and keeps the lid from "rattling" during heavy boils. Looking back, the T-Fal and Farberware were quite basic with hard plastic handles and lid handles that couldn't go in the oven. I guess you don't know what you're missing until you've experienced better!

The handles are extremely comfortable to use (picture attached), and I hadn't realized how this would make a difference over what I am using currently.The curve evenly distributes the weight of the pan across the whole palm of your hand as you grip it, as opposed to my current T-Fal which puts most of the weight at one end of your hand due to the straight through construction. With a straight handle you pick your shoulder up in the air so your hand accommodates the handle, instead of the handle accommodating to you. Very appreciated and easily overlooked feature.

The sauce pan and stock pan are wide topped to make it easy for in-pan whisking, as well as quicker reductions. I believe the kit calls this"windsor shape" which I wasn't familiar with.

Cleanup has been great so far, and as a kit you can fit every piece in a standard sized dishwasher in one washing (picture attached). I always say the real test of a pan is how well it cleans up when something gets a bit burnt on, or potatoes fog up the bottom of a stock pot. Neither has happened to me yet, so I'll have to report back in after that happens.

Comparison to other close matched 10 piece kits Amazon sells:

The Cuisinart 77 kit is 10 piece also, and can go 150 degrees higher in the oven, but does not have silicone grips or lid seals and windsor leans.

The Farberware Classic set is similar 10 piece, and is essentially what I own. The non stick pans scrape easily, handles are hard and can only oven to 350 degrees. Pans are thinner and lids rattle.

The Cuisinart Chef kit is well rated, but doesn't have premium handles, as deep of a frying pan, or rattle free lids.

The Rachel Ray kit is really nice, but hand washing is recommended. Major bummer in my book.

Warranty & Value:

The warranty with this kit is similar to others-to your door replacement first year, and send in for a similar replacement for life. A normal expectation with premium cookware.An interesting bit of research I did-the instruction and warranty envelope said "Thank you for purchasing Meyer Gourmet Cookware". Meyer Manufacturing makes Anolon brand cookware, which, if you compare, would yield this to be the best value Anolon cookware set available!

In summary, I've been pleased with the set and some premium features it includes over my existing collection of cookware. It looks nice, cooks well and cleans up well. It would make a great kit for the aspiring cook, for your first set of cookware if the price is ok for you, as a gift, or for someone who really needs to replace several items in your cookware collection.Of course if you're a professional chef, you'll probably prefer to build your cookware set piece by piece, but if you're in the market for a really nice set, I couldn't recommend any other options more than this one.

*I've attached several photos that have additional comments beyond the review.

Update 1:After some use, two new discoveries: The large stock pot and the skillets use the same size lids, so that's one less "trial" you have to do when reaching for one plus a lid.On the downside, the "tops" of the metal handles don't stay as cool as I want, and actually can get pretty hot.The normal grip of a lid is around the handle, so you have to learn to lift with the flat part of your hand and not grip around it.I disliked this feature enough that I docked it a star, down to 4 stars.

Update 2:Some more weeks in, I've had some food stick and it washed right away... no stains, no problems. Still just as pleased as I was originally.After update 1 above, I've mad just a tiny adjustment to how I grab the lids, and it's proven no problem again at all. I've left the review at 4 stars instead of 5 because I'd suggest a design modification for the handle style but other than that I'm still far more pleased with this kit than the Farberware stuff I had before.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) ()This KitchenAid Gourmet Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set is a good solid product and a good value for what you get.Over the past year I have evaluated a lot of cookware and used pots and pans from 3 new cookware sets.Good cookware is a big investment.While this set is reasonable, it will be worth it for some people to invest a little more on an alternative.

PROS:

++ Good value for a stainless steel set

++ Variety of pots allow you to prepare many types of meals

++ Glass lids allow you to monitor your food without slowing down the cooking

++ Handle grips are cushioned to add some comfort when moving skillets or pots

++ Skillets have high walls for splatter or for turning omelets

++ Riveted handles provide greater strength and durability than the screws used in many entry level sets

++ Saucepans are functional

++ Awesome oversized stock pot is great for stews and soups

++ Non-stick surface heats up quickly and cleans easily, though clad performs better

++ Warrantee allows for free replacement within the first year

++ After the first year, you have to send in the cookware at your own expense if it fails

CONS:

-Does not specify the grade of stainless steel, which means it's likely not 18/10

-Thick aluminum core bases add a lot of weight

-For a little more, an entry level clad set offers much more in terms of quality and features

-Alternatives have metal lids instead of silicone ringed glass (could be a positive if you like this feature)

-Skillets are on the smaller side, limiting functionality

-While functional, saucepans are on the smaller side as well

-Pan walls are on the thin side

-Touted as "dishwasher safe," but the fine-print states dishwasher use voids the warrantee

-Many other warrantee limitations, so read carefully before first use

-Also touted as "oven-safe" though I advise against this (low heat rating, handle grips, etc.)

PERFORMANCE VS PRODUCT CLAIMS

Only a quick clean-up was required before the initial use.I found that cleaning up the pots and pans took longer after each use than my clad cookware.But the pans all heated up evenly, if a little slowly.One other note about this product is that despite the product description, plan to clean every piece by hand if you don't want to void your warrantee.While the set is technically "dishwasher safe," the fine-print on the included pamphlet states in no uncertain terms that they are not responsible for damage caused by dishwashers.

The skillets worked well, though the 8.5 inch skillet is a little small for my use.Even the 10 inch is about the smallest I would ideally use.An ideal set would include one 10 inch skillet and one 12 inch.The 8 inch is good for preparing single portions at a time, and is certainly good enough for omelets or small portions of pan seared meats.But I try to make as many meals using single pans, which is why I would tend towards larger skillets.Just one note: the product description includes the claim that these are perfect for making crepes.If anybody has the skill to make a decent crepe in a skillet, I bow down to you.

The large stock pot is really the nicest pot in this set.It's normal for sets to include slightly smaller stock pots, and the added size means this will be immediately useful as an addition to my many different pots.It's not oversized, but this is a great size for stews and soups.

THE ALTERNATIVES

This set is aluminum core cookware, which is why there are thick disks at the base of each piece.That helps them to heat evenly, but it also adds a lot of weight.

There are many advantages to a fully clad set such as the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set I've been using over the past 6 months.Clad cookware heats up much quicker, has a higher temperature threshold, and is lighter to use.It's also a little bit easier to clean, though that distinction only shows up over long term use.The Cuisinart 77-10 Chef's Classic Stainless-Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set or Cuisinart 77-17 Chef's Classic Stainless 17-Piece Cookware Set are also worth consideration, though I don't own that version.

Also, there is bound to be some concern about leaching from the silicone rings on the glass tops.I am not super concerned about that, as this material has come a long way.There is tons of silicone bake-ware that has to withstand much higher temperatures than this set.Still, Kitchen Aid has a number of similar sets that have metal rimmed glass or stainless steel lids.The KitchenAid Gourmet Distinctions Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set, KitchenAid 75826 Gourmet Essentials 10-Piece Brushed Stainless Steel Cookware Set and KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set all deserve consideration.I would definitely review them if that is an issue for you.

CONCLUSION

If you are looking for a gift for a housewarming or a young graduate getting their first apartment, this has to be high on the list of sets to be considered.But if you are looking for yourself and this is your first foray into stainless steel cookware, you may want to evaluate your options.Paying a little more now can help you avoid having to buy another set in the future. The Cuisinart Multiclad Pro is my favorite.

Happy shopping.

()When it comes to certain products, I prefer waiting several months before submitting my review, and so is the case with this set of pots and pans. It's been nearly a year and I fall a little more in love with them each time I use them--they aren't perfect, but they're darn close.

I remember back to the first time I opened the box--it was so well-packaged and gorgeous that I had to stand back in awe. Testing the weight of each, I found that while they looked thick and heavy, they weren't; the weight of each pot/pan was balanced and felt good to grip.

Heating the pans requires a little bit of time, but the result is a very even heat across the base. (And just for reference, I cook on an electric range, but I've been itching to try them with a gas burner.) Initially I was concerned that the handles would get too hot to grip without a towel or mitt, but I was surprised to learn they weren't. As far as the lid handles, I've developed a habit of using a towel to lift them off, so I've not had any problems in that area either.

But let's get to how they perform in action. The lids develop a nice tight seal while cooking, and the skillet and the stock pot use the same size lid, so you don't need to worry about finding the *right* lid if you've got multiples on the stove. If you're used to cooking with non-stick pans, there will be an adjustment period because these do not have a non-stick coating. This is beneficial because it means you're free to do more *in pan* than you would with non-stick (for instance, using a metal whisk, knife, or fork) and clean up, especially if you accidentally burn something, will be more challenging. And even after consistent use, these pans still look amazing--no stains or scorching.

Paula Deen Porcelain 9 Inch and 11 Inch Skillet Twin Packs

Paula Deen Signature Porcelain Nonstick 9-Inch and 11-Inch Nonstick Skillet Twin Pack, Red SpeckleI bought these ... they looked good in the store... but when it came to their use, the small pan's handle is heavier than the pan itself and does not sit level on the burner unless there's heavy food in it which makes for uneven heating. Both fry pans seem to be an odd size. None of my lids from other pans fit them, not even close. Based on this I will not buy another Paula Deen product. I would like to know who makes them and get contact info so I can express this to the company.

Bought this set in addition to other Paula den items. The pans are great and I use them everyday, the only thing I wish they had even as an added purchase would be lids, none of the other Paula Deen lids fit them either,or any of my old lids either. Other than that the pans heat nicely and I have made everything from eggs, grilled cheese, to stroganoff in them with no issues. I'd do hand wash them as instructed in the insert and use silicon utensils only as well, they still look new after 6 months of use and am very pleased just wish could find lids to fit them....when did manufacturers stop making lids for frying pans?

Update International AFX-08H Eclipse Coated Aluminum Fry Pan with Molded Handle, 8-Inch

Update International AFX-08H Eclipse Coated Aluminum Fry Pan with Molded Handle, 8-InchPros: The coating is great, we have used it quite a bit the past month and I can flip eggs or whatever with just a silicone spatula without any oil. The pan is thick and distributes the heat very well.

Cons: I can't flip a crepe on it without using a spatula... this may not be a big deal to many people, but I enjoy it. things don't "stick", but food still clings to the pan so you have to use a spatula instead of just shaking it.

The big problem with this pan is that it isn't balanced well. The handle is made of some heaver steel so it won't sit flat on an electric stove... this may not be as big of a deal on a gas stove.

Also the aluminum seems to be fairly soft and I can see marks in it even though we have always been careful to not use metal utensils on it... so we'll see how it holds up in the long run.

Nordic Ware Commercial Induction Fry Pan with Premium Non-Stick Coating, 8-Inch

Nordic Ware Commercial Induction Fry Pan with Premium Non-Stick Coating, 8-InchI'm not too happy with this pan. It's not made very well. The bottom is not very flat and spins like a top on my glass top stove.

Also the non-stick isn't as good as a similar pan I purchase at the local discount store.

Their description of a Premium Non-Stick pan is not in my opinion even close to correct.

This skillet is exactly as described.I used it several times and it worked perfectly on my Nuwave Induction Cooktop.I would buy again and recommend to all.

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction Cooktop

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction CooktopI purchased mine from the Nuwave website.It was the BoGo offer with the cookware.As written in many other places the S&H for the cookware and second cook top negate any "get one free" benefit.That should be a considration of "how/where" you purchase.

I immediately unpacked my 2 PIC to test boiling water.First thing I found out was my Calphalon cookwarefrom Target is annodized aluminum...not magnetic and not induction compatible.That should be a considration about buying the PIC if you want to use current metal cookware...BE SURE IT'S Magnetic.

Ok, now for the review of actual functionality.I used both the "free" stainless steel cookpot and a castiron fry pan.Both PIC's that I received only had a functioning induction coil in the very center of the cooktop.If you see a picture without the pot or pan on the PIC it's the size of the center red circle that is intersected by the NuWave logo.This will affect the eveness of heat distribution and cooking...especially frying.

The button for "Med" indicates a temperature of 275.I just wanted to boil water for my first use(that's 212 degrees farenheight, actually slightly less here in Colorado Springs).After 5 minutes there were bubbles forming on the bottom of the pan in a 3-4 inch circle in the center.This is the location of the inner induction coil.According to the NuWave response on their facebook page the induction coils are supposed to be out to the OUTER red cirlce on the PIC cooktop so this indicated to me that the coils were not working properly.

To get the water to actually boil, and this is on the included DvD also, you need to select the SEAR/HIGH button and adjust down once you get to a boil.

I don't see this product being nearly as "precise" as the NuWave website indicates.There is definitely as much lag in heating pots as with a standard electric range.It may truly be more efficient overall because the heat is generated within the cooking pot by exciting the atoms and not transferred from the heating element to the pot...but speedwise I definitly saw zero improvment over conventional electric or gas.I have a GE Profile gas range and the small burner did a better/faster job boiling water, again probaly not as efficient since the flames must heat the pot.

Safety-wise there are indeed no open flames or electric burners but the glass cooktop does absorb heat from the cookware so there is a chance to burn yourself after extended cooking times with the PIC.

I think this may work fine as a hotplate for parties or for serving fondues...but for active cooking I feel it's quite a let down from what is shown on their site or in the informercials.

*** Updating to a 3 star rating after testing the green pans that came with the product.The heat convection in the "Perfect Green" 9" Duralon pan is very good and the non-stick surface is excellent(not sure about durability as this is day two with the product).I'm not sure why the sauce/steamer/fondue pan seems to work poorly but the Perfect Green fry pans work very well.I can't push this beyond 3 stars as it still seems as slow when using anything other than the fry pans.I bought this with the idea of having solid, precise control for frying chicken I will be trying that this weekend and hopefully reporting back here afterward.

### For those of you who wondered about chicken frying, it seems to hold temperature(once you get there !!!) much better than a standard electric skillet, and since it seems to cycle off when it reaches temp...unlike standard cooktops that keep adding heat unless you adjust them...it was a better final product. I was able to fry 12 chicken thighs in 3 batches of 4 without stopping or messing with the controls.

Still only a 3 because it definitly doesn't live up to the infomercials.

MARCH 10, 2013.

Our review from December published below originally gave this PIC a five star review. I have changed to only ONE star now. SO, if you happen to read any comments by other folks which might not make sence, that is why...

I also have added at the bottom of this review an email from The Induction Cooking website expert, addressing small induction burner elements and the cooking powers of these smaller Induction cooktops.

The Induction cooking method is a good choice.

THIS product has a defect which makes it cook at much higher temperature than the temperature you set.

I used a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of water and soup. THe temperature/thermostat was defective.

When the unit was set and 160, the thermometer measured 200 and a rolling boil occurred.

I returned the unit, exchanging it for another PIC.

THe same defect occurred.

I will be returning the second one now, and get my money back.

I hope that this update will serve to protect others from putting their money into a product which does not function properly.

ALSo, for reader's information. THe induction burner within this unit only measures 5 1/2 inches, so can't be used with larger pots.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question to Eric:
I've been looking at the listings on your site.What I am looking for is the
> ACTUAL size of the burner element in each of the countertop cooktops.
>
> I thought that the individual companies would have this information readily
> available, yet cannot seem to find it on amazon and your site. Do I need to
> call or write the individual companies to get this information.
Eric's answer to my question:
You could, but the answer will be pretty much the same (if you can get an
answer at al)--around the 5" to 6" that you have discovered by yourself.The
only exceptions would be in some units expressly designed for commercial use
(and priced accordingly).
One must remember that countertop units were not and are not intended as the
main station for cooking--they are improvements on the old "hot plate", which
is for lightweight supplementary cooking, from heating up a small pot of some
canned goods in a college dorm to at-the-table cooking of those few dishes
that need to go from pan to plate in a blink.They were never meant for 12"
skillets or huge, many-quart pots of soup or the like.
If one has to cook on them with anything much larger than 6" to 8" in
diameter, the material of the cookware and the natire of what's being cooked
come into play.Cast iron is a poor heat conductor, and so is quite slow to
carry heat from the center to its periphery; on the other hand, given enough
pre-heat, it will eventually get at least moderattely hot at the perimeter and
will tend to hold that heta."Clad" stainless steel, on the other hand, is
designed to conduct heat well, and so will heat up more quickly; but it will
also cool down more quickly.Neither material on a small, countertop unit
will be really satisfactory in heating the outer annular area of any pot or
skillet, but whether that is critical depends on what one is cooking: if one
is making pancakes, or cooking anything that needs even heat throughout, it
will never be a real success; on the other hand, something like heating a
liquid will work tolerably well because the liquid itself will very rapidly
even out the temperatures.
There is always, though, the power limitation: 13,000 BTU/hour, which is the
equivalent of what a 1.8-kW tabletop can deliver, is a lof heat energy, and
will do well for most household tasks.But even that cannot boil several
quart of water in a flash.In a build-in unit, a 1.8-kW element would be one
of the small ones.
I purchased through the TV Add BOGO.I couldn't wait to get my new induction cooktops because I want to replace my regular smooth cooktop with induction.Felt this would be an excellent way to try it out.Since I have ALL CLAD stainless steel cookware, I knew my cookware would not be a problem.
When the units showed up, I opened the first unit, filled up one of my All Clad pots with about 3 inches of water and put it to the test!Unfortunately, only the very center of my pan tried to boil.I NEVER got a full boil going with the unit.It didn't even get the center of the pot of water boiling.Since that didn't work, I pulled out a smaller pot and tried again.Same result.To top off the poor performance, the fan is incredibily loud.
I emailed with customer service (Hearthware.Com) and their answer was "sorry".I was told if I wanted to send it back, I had to pay the shipping and handling.Now, that means I have to pay shipping and handling both ways for a poor product.So, I figured it was just the one unit so I opened up the 2nd unit and tried the same thing.This unit was worse than the first one since after 10 minutes I couldn't get anything to boil.Temperature of the "boiling" water never got over 140 degrees. Fan was just as loud on this unit as the first unit.
So, back to customer service (email) I went.Again, no assistance in saying "let's replace that for you".Same answer send them back at MY cost.
Needless to say, I will never purchase a product through HEARTHWARE again.I will NEVER purchase a NU WAVE product again.It cost me over $75 for shipping and handling for a product that did not work and I don't have.MAJOR disappointment.
Ordered a NuWave PIC and NuWave Mini Oven online.I received a confirmation email on the order immediately after the order was placed.It had the following number to contact customer service at 855-742-2665.I wasn't aware of the high shipping and processing costs that came with ordering online ($153.84 for the items and $114.85 for shipping and processing).I immediately called the customer service number but got a recording that they are are open at 7AM CST M-F.I called the following morning at 7AM CST and spoke with Carlos.He said that the order wasn't in his system and to call back.I asked when to call back and he said after lunch.He said that he didn't have a way to check on the order.Fine, I called back after lunch and spoke with Geri and Teresa (supervisor).Both of them said that they see the order and would put in a cancel request but I had to call back after 24 hours to see if it got cancelled.They said that if not, I would be responsible for the shipping and processing charge after I returned the items.I told her that I should only have to call once that this customer service number was on the order confirmation that I received by email.I asked if they worked for Hearthware and they said yes.I asked them to transfer me to shipping and they would not do that.I was informed that the call was being recorded and I would again have to call back in 24 hours to see if the cancel request went through in time to stop the item from being shipped.
I located a number for Hearthware, Inc in Libertyville, IL at 800-229-2123 and the agent was very helpful.She said that the people I had been talking to are offsite and not employees of Hearthware, Inc and are in a callcenter.She cancelled the order for me and sent me a confirmation email.I asked to speak with a member of management with the company and am waiting for a callback.
I can't speak for the effectiveness of the product but the runaround has turned me off on this product and company.
WearEver Admiration Nonstick Fry Pan / Saute Pan Dishwasher Safe Cookware, Gray
WearEver C9570574 Admiration Nonstick 10-Inch Fry Pan / Saute Pan Dishwasher Safe Cookware, GrayThe weight and feel of this pan and its superbly non-stick interior are all excellent, but don't buy this if you have a glass cook top. Neither the product photo nor the description shows the ridged bottom. In fact, I can't find a photo of the bottom of this pan anywhere in the interwebs.
Although I've been very, very careful, my cook top is horribly scratched after only three weeks of use. Sadly, I'll have to look for another 10" saute pan to replace this one.
Have used a 10" WearEver Saute Pan for several years with complete satisfaction. Took the information from the bottom of the pan, did a computer search for an identical pan. Elected to order two of the pans from Amazon from among the many sources found in the search results indicating the same pan description. The pans came in, with the same markings as my old pan. That is the only thing similar. Old pan is heavy guage quality pan with a non-slip handle (simply a jam-up pan). What I received was lightweight junk with cheap handles, etal. (What else can I say but "JUNK"!) I don't have any idea why Amazon, much less WearEver would use such deceptive marketing tactics just to sell a cheap saute pan. Don't think I will consider WearEver anymore and I will have to give a considerable amount of thought before ordering anything else from Amazon! Only reason I gave this product a 1-star rating, they do not offer a -5!
Old Mountain Pre Seasoned 10100 3 Piece Skillet Set, 6.5 Inch, 8 Inch, 10.5 Inch
Old Mountain Pre Seasoned 10100 3 Piece Skillet Set, 6.5 Inch, 8 Inch, 10.5 InchI do NOT recommend these pans. They were very pretty to look at (nice art work on the bottom) but not good for cooking. I bought them because I thought "Cast Iron" pans were all the same and the art work and price was a definite lure. Boy was I sorry! During their 1st use chips of iron kept flaking off into the food I was cooking. I'm sending them back immediately. Their appearance and price were good but the quality was not good. Their American competition, Lodge Logic, (and maybe who they are imitating) is MUCH higher in quality for not much more in price.
I am very pleased with these pans.They are heavy and durable made just like my grandmothers that she used to cook with when we went to visit.I also was impressed with the preseasoning.It made them very easy to use for the first time.This product is made to last a lifetime and so few things are made that well anymore.In fact, I just ordered the 5 quart deep frying pan with the lid and I am ordering the 4 quart dutch oven since these were so impressive.
Bought these for christmas for my daughter.I was very very disappointed when I noticed the box sez 'made in china'.Because it was too late to return I gave them to her anyway.I told her that I had found a recall on cast iron skillets that are made in china because due to the coating they use. It's a paint that comes off in the food. she elected to keep the skillets said she wasn't going to cook in them anyway. She's painting pictures in them for a craft show.Use caution when buying anything made in china if you're going to use it to cook or eat with.
Farberware High Performance Nonstick Stainless Steel Open Skillet
Farberware High Performance Nonstick Stainless Steel Open Skillet, 10-InchWorks well, even butter pools when melting. Excellent for induction range. Remember to never ever use non-stick spray or heat above medium. I know, lots of recipes call for this, but don't do it; use cast iron and spray it all you want. Just wish it came with a lid.
Norpro Cast Iron Plett Pan
Norpro Cast Iron Plett PanI picked up this pan on a bit of a whim. I don't make a lot of swedish pancakes, or any type really, and honestly I'm not usually too concerned about how perfectly round my food is.I am a big fan of cast iron cookware so don't expect one of those, "I soaked it in the sink and it left rust stains," angry iron-neophyte reviews. The pan came unseasoned but I gave it a quick scrub, did a quick stovetop seasoning, and had zero problems with sticking or anything else.
I have cast iron cookware from Lodge and a few other makers and this is as good. Pre-seasoning might have been nice but seasoning a pan isn't actually hard. The quality of the pan is higher than the packaging by a mile. They spell "plett" three different ways and managed to miscount the number of depressions when describing the pan. None of that really matters but it's good for a laugh.
The included recipe will be useful if you aren't familiar with Swedish pancakes. It's similar to a crepe recipe and produces a nice thin batter that loves to spread out. You can find other (better) recipes online. I would probably go with more egg and less flour. Traditionalists would also go for more fat. The pan would also work fine for savory pancakes and perhaps other less pancake-like dishes. The dwells are 7 centimeters in diameter -a shade under 3 inches -and quite shallow. Amazon's product description says you could make cornbread with this pan but I don't see it. Not conventional American cornbread anyway. You could use it for creative hors d'oeurves if you were minded.
The main trick to using this pan was to give the outer ring of pancakes a half-turn about mid-way through cooking to give more even browning. That might not be necessary depending on your heat source. I used a bamboo skewer to chase the edge of the pancake/make sure it wasn't sticking, then to spin each cake around. If you've seen someone making ebelskivers (there are videos online) you will know where I got the idea. Flipping the cakes took a bit of fiddling at first but wasn't actually difficult.
The main thing that keeps me from giving this five stars is that it's so specialized. It's nice, and at $15 or $16 it's not expensive, but you can do the same job with a griddle or skillet. If you want perfectly round little cakes get yourself some egg/pancake rings -you'll save a few bucks and probably take up less storage space. On the other hand, if you have plenty of space and a love for specialized cast iron cookware, add a star.
This is a typical plett pan each well is about 1/4" and it can hold exactly 1 tablespoon of liquid.Swedish pancakes are small, thin, and light.The recipe that arrived with it was wonderful.After seasoning I had a few sticking issues with the first two batches, but after that it was perfect.
I took the pan out of its box and immediately noticed that the 7 pancake holes were not straight sided like usual.The holes were very shallow.I held the pan by the handle and turned it over to look at the bottom.The "cast iron" handle snapped off and the pan fell to the floor.Back it goes!
I had really wanted one with bigger circles in it. These are around the size of cookies. A little too small for what I wanted but the pan's quality is fine and it shipped quick enough.
I bought this pan on a whim.I have never eaten authentic Plett but the descriptions sounded appealing.I seasoned the pan on the stovetop since it is 90 degrees outside. Not my preferred method but it worked.
I whipped up a batch of Plett using a 3-egg recipe I found on the web. I level Tablespoon of the batter worked perfectly.(These recipes make a LOT of Plett, but they freeze well.)I left out the sugar and put savory toppings on them.Sauteed mushrooms, smoked salmon, sliced cheese, etc.Nice contrast with the eggy texture of the Plett.They are great "pancakes" for little tykes.
Next, I used the pan for some buckwheat blini.Worked perfectly.Also used it for circles of scrambled egg and prosciutto to put on top of the blini.Made mini bacon/egg/cheese sandwiches.
Every culture has some form of pancake.Haven't tried Dosa batter yet, but I've used cornmeal andbuckwheat crepe mixtures with great success.
One thing you should know is that this pan is not the same as the pictured pad in the listing.the pan I received does not have the pour lip on the side of the pan and the pancake wells have tapered sides rather than straight sides.
It's sturdy.It's non-stick.It does what it's supposed to do.I'm very pleased.
UPDATE:I like this pan more every time I use it.I have found some tools in my kitchen that make the process easier and and cuts my cooking time in half.
1.I use Alton Brown's crepe recipe, but usually have to thin it with 2-4 Tablespoons of water if I let the batter sit overnight.I usually leave out the sugar because I usually use the plett for savory recipes.I keep a batch of sweet plett in the freezer.It is a very easy recipe and makes about 50 eggy plett/crepes.Again, they freeze well.
2.Different wells in the pan cook at different speeds, depending on their location on the pan.The 2 wells right in front of the handle cook the slowest and the center well cooks the fastest.As a result, I fill the 2 wells by the handle first and the center well last.
3.Use a pancake pen to fill the wells.
Tovolo Pancake Pen
It takes just a little bit of practice, but once you find your rhythm, it is MUCH faster than measuring each tablespoonful.I use it to fill small baking molds like bouchons and financiers as well.You could also use the cupcake pen.
4.Flipping the plett in their wells is aggravating and time consuming.Because of the egg content, they puff up and don't sit flat in the well when you turn them over.Have a second pan heated on the stove and move the plett directly to that pan to cook on the second side.It speeds up the process considerably.You can refill the wells while the plett cook on the second side in the other pan.I really like the pan below for this purpose:
Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned Round Griddle, 10.5"
It has low sides, so you can turn the plett without burning you hand.I also use it to broil fish.I preheat it, put some oil in the bottom and put in the fish.The cast iron holds the heat, so it cooks the fish on both sides without turning.
5.Lose the barbecue skewers.They work, but they are a little slow, awkward, and can poke holes in the plett if they are a little under done. I usea mini metal frosting knife and a mini spatula.Thay are easier to use and speed up the process.
Dexter-Russell 2-by-2.5-Inch Stainless Steel and Walnut Mini Turner
and
Ateco 4.25 by 0.75-Inch Small Sized Blade Ultra Spatula
I use the small cake decorating spatula to steady one side of the plett while I slip the other spatula underneath to transfer it to the second pan.
Using these 4 items, I can cook up an entire batch of batter very quickly.
Lodge Original Finish Cast Iron Eight-Section Cornbread Skillet
Lodge Original Finish Cast Iron Eight-Section Cornbread SkilletI have used this pan many times and have even baked cornbread on the grill and have never had a problem with it.The cornbread is browned just right and comes right out of the pan.In addition to seasoning the pan, I preheat the pan for about 15 minutes, then spray it with Pam before dumping in the batter. I like to bake cornbread for stuffing in this pan because the smaller sections get more browning than would be the case in an undivided skillet.I have a growing collection of Lodge cast iron products and I have never been disappointed in the quality and cooking results.Cast iron does require more care but it also holds the temperature better than any other type of cooking vessel.Many of my pans are now so well seasoned that they are virtually non-stick and you can use them on the stove, in the oven, on the grill or over an open fire.I wouldn't trade my Lodge set for the best set of Calphalon available!
I love cast iron cookware, but this pan won't work for me.I seasoned it as instructed but the muffins just wouldn't come out cleanly.Trying to clean it afterwards was a nightmare. I couldn't get the stuck bits out ofthe corners.
This cast iron pan, as good for scones and quick-breads as it is for cornbread, works flawlessly IF you season it well, preheat it and spray it with non-stick spray. If you keep it seasoned and sprayed, the center won't stick. The first time I used it, I didn't spray it and it stuck in the points (a wooden chopstick or skewer is good for scraping). It cooks things much more evenly than a round or square pan where the middle can be gooey. Because I have celiac disease, I have to make gluten-free recipes which are even tougher to cook in the middle. This pan is outstanding for gluten free doughs as well as ones with gluten. Try it, as I have, with muffin batter, any scone recipe, cornbread, any quick-bread or even yeasted bread. I suspect it would even make good yorkshire puddings with some of the pop of popovers (yorkshire pudding is a giant popover) and lots of other things. I preheat my pan for 10 minutes at 375 or higher, depending on the recipe, then spray it well with Pam or something similar, put in the dough or batter, and bake. It WOULD have been nice to have been told the volume of batter it holds I am buying a second one so I can bake a bigger recipe at one time. It's so inexpensive that this seems the thing to do. Enjoy!
I didn't realize that I had ordered the unseasoned pan until after it had been shipped. No matter! It arrived midmorning today, and it took all of 90 minutes to season the thing according to Lodge's intstructions.
I then cooked a batch of cornbread according to recipe on the back of the Alber's cornmeal box. I left the pan in the oven to preheat, and when the oven reached 400 I removed the pan, shot it with cooking spray, poured in the batter and sat back for 20 minutes. The result was perfect cornbread: the wedges popped right out of the pan without sticking at all. The hot set-up would be to have 2 of these pansthat would equal one standard cornbread recipe.Excellent! And for only 10 bucks!
George Foreman SK0010B SkilLite Digital Searing Skillet with Sear Setting and Grease Channel
George Foreman SK0010B SkilLite Digital Searing Skillet with Sear Setting and Grease ChannelThis skillet is large enough to accomodate the average family without any problem.We love the ability to sear the meat and then cook it more slowly to preserve the flavor.The grease channel is a suburb feature whether you want to save the grease or throw it away.The main thing is that you're not adding a lot of fat calories.This is a great skillet for any family who cooks and likes to keep their meals fat free.
Got this for my wife and she's used it almost every night for the past 2 weeks to cook everything from breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns) to dinner (hamburgers, chicken, potatoes, stir-fry). She's actually using it right now to cook up some chicken and veggies and it smells awesome!
I highly recommend this skillet. It's large enough for our family of 4, easy to clean, and the grease channel is a nice touch, too! Just push whatever you don't want into it. I'm writing the review, but my wife is the one raving about this skillet. Hey, if my wife is happy, then I am happy. :)
We use a skillet at least 3 or 4 times a week and the last one from Walmart lasted two years before it burned out.Hope this lasts longer.We don't use much oil (we use a Mr Misto to spray olive oil) so the grease trough isn't a big thing for us, but I can see that being popular for those who fry.
This one really cleans up nice too.
I would buy & recommend it.
