Iittala Sarpaneva Cast Iron Casserole

iittala Sarpaneva 3-Quart Cast Iron Casserole with Wooden HandleWhen you read the description of this pot on any website, including Amazon's, it sounds as if the iittala company decided that cooks today needed another chance to own this beautiful, practical pot, so they decided to manufacture it again. The descriptions, which wax rhapsodic about the pots proudly bearing the Timo Sarpeneva Design stamp, (and the $230 price tag), lead one to believe it is manufactured in Finland. Some of the seller's descriptions, including Amazon's, actually state that this pot is made in Finland. Not so!A tiny paper sticker reveals the country of origin to be China. The finishing made me suspicious before I saw the sticker-it's rather rough around the edges, not smooth like the original Finnish ones made in the 1960's.I actually ordered this pot twice-the first time, it arrived with a big chip off the edge, which was strange, because as the chipped-off piece wasn't in the box, it must have been put into the box that way.So much for quality control, but I really wanted one of these pots, and I convinced myself that mistakes could happen to anyone.I didn't examine the box at that time, or I would have seen the Made in China sticker discreetly located on the bottom. When the second pot arrived, I was again a little disappointed in the finishing of the edges, because for $230 this should be a high quality, carefully made piece of cookware, but the design is too adorable for words, so I was ready to keep it anyway. Then I noticed the China sticker.Seriously? If I buy a Le Creuset pot and pay $230, at least I know it's made in France! If it's going to be a knockoff, it better also have a knockoff price tag.You can get a Le Creuset-style pot made in China at Target for $50.If this pot cost $50, I'd figure I was getting what I paid for.I had been reading various cooking blogs in which rabid Le Creuset lovers discussed the iittala and other expensive cast-iron cooking pots, and the funny thing is, all of them seemed to believe that these pots are made in Finland.Go to the iittala site and give their advertising for these pots a really close read.Nowhere is this claim actually made, although it is very much implied.I started to wonder if perhaps it was simply the packaging that was made in China, so I called the U.S. distributor for iittala. They were quite up front, telling me that ALL of the iittala cast-iron products are made in China.Apparently the home company, which the advertising implies is producing this pot, only makes a few of the iittala products, such as the $3000 artisan glass vases.Needless to say, I returned the pot.Given the quality of the finishing, it isn't worth $230.I felt it deserved two stars simply becauseTimo Sarpaneva's design is immortal-practical and lyrical at once, and I regret that the iittala company doesn'trespect his work enough to see that it is produced as it should be.I also don't appreciate being intentionally deceived.

I was suprised to see this on amazon, its a design classic and something I've always wanted. The pot is heavy cast iron with a white enamel interior and is made very well. The handle on mine had a bit of the finish off where it slides through the pot, but I figured this would happen with use regardless.Love it!

Presto 07050 Cool-Touch Foldaway Griddle

Presto 07050 Cool-Touch Foldaway GriddleThe presto foldaway is a nice design with the large cooking surface and collapsable legs make it easy to store. Performance was way below what I expected. The heat is not evenly distributed at all. Even after letting it warm up for 10 to 20 minutes, the pancakes would come out with one half of one side nearly burnt, and the other half of the same side white. To avoid burning the pancakes you have to turn them before you should then the pancakes get puffy bumps on them because one side of the pancake is getting more heat on it, so the end result is a pancake that looks like volcano cake. Turning the temperature down didn't help either, it only took longer to get a pancake that looked the one I just described. While testing out the cooking surface, I was able to pour 9 pancakes, because of the uneven heating surface, the cakes on the outer edges cooked faster and the one on the top right nearest the control cooked much faster than the others. The one in the center had to be moved to the outside to finish cooking.

The only thing that folds is the side supports; when folded, it lays flatter but still takes up a lot of storage space. It cooks fairly evenly (a little hotter near the control) and really can cook 9 pancakes (or 9 eggs) at a time.It slopes slightly toward the front, which is great for bacon (drainage) but not so good for frying eggs (I sometimes shim the front sides to level it up).I haven't scratched the cooking surface yet, but I'm pretty careful with it.Overall I am very happy with it.

I really enjoy this griddle.I don't have a ton of storage space so I needed a foldaway unit. The legs fold down so it's not more than 2" wide & you can easily slide it into a storage cabinet. The heating element works well there are a couple of less-hot spots, but nothing that makes the unit unworkable. The non-stick surface is also very easy to clean.

We bought this griddle at Target for just under $40. We made 6 pancakes on it after we got it home, 4 in one batch, 2 the next. The pancakes turned out great, even better than when we used the pan on the stove. We didn't notice any cool spots. And it heated up quickly, while we prepared the batter. I believe we will get a lot of good use out of this. Also, the fact that it is fully submersible and dishwasher safe, after removing the plug in element, and has a catch tray for any grease, just makes it that much better.

I got this griddle for my birthday about a month ago as a gift.I'd been searching for a replacement for the old jumbo griddle I have because it's incredibly difficult to clean and too large for the number of people I normally feed. I've used this new griddle a couple times now and I have slightly mixed feelings for it.I really like how the plastic legs on the side fold under to make the storage profile a little smaller. The square shape also helps with storage because can fit into a cupboard easier. It's not as small as the griddles that fold in half for storage, but that's okay because I think the heating is more even this way.I wish that the control held the item/temp. equivalent chart that my old one did because now I have to look up what temperature I need for pancakes or sandwiches. The other thing that's unfortunate is that I wanted a griddle that would be easier to clean, but it turns out that the foldaway griddle is slightly wider than my sink is.I'm sure this isn't a problem if you have a dishwasher, but you might want to measure your sink before purchasing if you wash your electric griddle by hand.

On the plus side, the heating seems to be pretty evenly distributed if you let it warm up properly. And I was really surprised at how spacious the square design turned out to be.You can easily fit six good-sized pork chops on there without crowding them in the least.

Heuck 33062 Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron 3 Piece Skillet Set, Red

Heuck 33062 Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron 3 Piece Skillet Set, RedI was so excited to get this since it was so affordable, I thought! But you get what you pay for! This smelled like enamel, so I don't know what type they use.It didn't smell completely safe, though! It looks like only one layer of enamel and you can see the metal through it with imperfections in the iron peaking though. The edges are rough and uneven.I bought one 11" Lodge enamel pan for about the same price as this and it was worth that and more! The Lodge has excellent quality!

I bought this thinking it would be safer than the typical Teflon pan and easier to clean than a cast iron but after a month it literally exploded on the stove and I had to shove my daughter out of the kitchen to keep her from getting hit by the pieces.

I tried to return it but Amazon will not accept it back because it's been more than 30 days.I feel completely cheated. This was not only bad quality because it exploded but it was clearly cheaply made as it was very light (not like a cast iron pan should be) so I suspect there is very little cast iron in it at all.

DO NOT PURCHASE THISthe Lodge cookware, it may be more expensive at first but since I'll have to buy Lodgeware now to replace this hunk of junk I'm very sorry I didn't just buy it in the first place.

I purchased these pans about a week ago, and I've been making scrambled eggs in the largest one every single day since I bought them. This morning I put the eggs in like normal and walked over to the sink to grab a cutting board; thank goodness I turned away because I heard a LOUD POP and then another LOUD POP. I jumped out of my skin. The enamel had exploded off quite violently, and there was enamel shrapnel all over the stovetop and contaminating all of my food. I bought these pans to get away from using toxic Teflon but exploding enamel is hardly safer.

I purchased these in 2008 and one of the skillets exploded on the first use. There were tiny shards of glass all over my kitchen and in our dinner.I tried to file a safety hazard report with Amazon, but couldn't make it through all the legal disclosures.I wasn't able to return them as I waited longer than 30 days to use them.We threw them in the trash.I have several Lodge and Le Creuset enameled pans that I have used for years without any problems.I saw these today while searching for something else.I'm surprised they are still being sold. Please don't buy these.

Circulon Symmetry Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch and 12-Inch Skillets Twin Pack

Circulon Symmetry Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch and 12-Inch Skillets Twin PackI have bought brand name nonstick cookware in the past that was only nonstick for the first few uses, even though I cared for it properly.I bought a Circulon pan decades ago, when they first came out, and did not like it.This time around, I was looking for a 12" nonstick pan and decided to try these even though they were Circulon, after reading reviews here and elsewhere, because I am too cheap to spend twice the money for one pan that I liked more.

I'm glad I bought these. This is the first time nonstick pans have still been nonstick after 20 days of use, usually 2 times per day!I have been treating this cookware in my usual way:

*My gas stove burners have 8 settings:high numbers 1 through 6 low.I do not go above 5 with this cookware; usually 4 is sufficient.

*I have used oil or butter in the pans, to make fried rice or grilled cheese, for example.

*I wait until the pan has cooled to wash it.

*I use silicone utensils.

*I hand wash the pans using the soft nonabrasive side of the sponge.

So this morning I made eggs to test whether it was still nonstick.I did not add any butter to the pan.The burner setting was 4.I broke an egg into the pan and scrambled it with a silicon spatula. There was a slight egg white film on the bottom of the pan, but otherwise, the egg came out just fine. This egg was for my dog.

I then cooked 2 fried eggs in the pan, without cleaning it first. They came out beautifully, leaving no discernible trace of the egg white film beneath where they had been. When the pan cooled, the little bit of egg film that remained from scrambling the egg had dried.I wiped it out with a paper towel. There is still a tiny bit of this very, very thin egg film in the crevices of the circles, but it came out in a jiffy when I washed the pan.

These pans clean up in a jiffy, too, which is a huge plus in my book.

The only thing I don't like about these pans is that there is no hole through the tip of the handle so I can hang them on a hook. There is a what should I call it? kind of a shallow cave-like opening on the back of the handle, so I can still hang it facing outward (with the inner pan exposed).I have a rack (5 TIER UNIT USES 3/4 DIAMTER CHROME POSTS (Chrome) (47"H x 18"W x 18"D)) that I store my cookware on, including hanging pans from it.This works because of that cave thing, but my dog likes to curl up beside it and I'm afraid the pans will fall on him.To alleviate that, I put a Rubbermaid Step Stool in that spot.He can't nap beneath the pans any more, so I don't have to worry.

I highly recommend this set of pans.

This set of skillets from Circulon is a pretty good set of pans.

Really non-stick. I like to use a little oil for flavor, but not much is required. Add a little oil for the first pancake and you don't really need to for the next one. Cook a fried egg with no oil at all. It's nice to make scrambled eggs with cheese and not have any cheese stick to the pan. The description says dishwasher safe but because of the nonstick they are very quick and easy to hand wash and probably won't need to go in the dishwasher.

The smooth stainless steel base makes them good for all cook tops, including glass and induction.

Silicone grips on the metal handles keeps them from ever feeling hot but are still oven safe up to 400 (F) degrees.

If you want these pans to stay non-stick, you can't use cooking spray, but that is clearly stated in the use and care. Likewise, you should only use them over low to medium heat as with pretty much all nonstick cookware.

I have a couple of small concerns, which won't be issues for everybody. If you feel that you need a skillet which is oven safe for higher temperatures, you might consider another Circulon offering similiarly priced, Circulon Infinite Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Inch & 12-Inch Open Skillets Twin Pack These are oven safe up to 500 (F) degrees. They also have a hole in the handle so that you can hang them, something which is missing on this set. However, you get the higher oven temperature by having an all metal handle which gets very hot if you use them in the oven. Also their sides are more sloped, which means you get a little smaller cooking area.

The pans are just what I was looking for. However, it took three shipments before I received pans that were not defective.Cooking.com was very concerned that the large pan was defective the first two times I received my order. They notified the supplier and on the third shipment I finally received pans I could use.I didn't have to pay anything to return the first two orders, but it was inconvenient to have tobox the shipments up and return them.

This is the first time I have ordered anything through Amazon.com that was defective.

I love these pans. They are the perfect no stick pans, and you don't have to use a lot of oil, they cook everything very evenly, and hold their heat very well. On that note, I never cook above medium heat anymore. I love that there are two of them, they are the only pans I ever use.

Notes to keep them in tip-top condition; like I said, keep the heat low. If you nestle them in the cupboard, be sure to put a dish towel between them so they don't scratch. Don't ever wash them while they are hot, and don't use metal utensils. These will be sure to last a long time.

Retro Panini Grill

Retro Panini GrillIt works perfectly well.I have two minor complaints. One is that there is no real on/off switch. If you have it plugged in, and the heat dial at minimum, it still heats. That's important to be aware of.It's not your ordinary toaster, which doesn't do anything unless you push down the slider.Second problem is MUCH less important. The clip that's supposed to hold the top and bottom together in storage is totally worthless.Just don't depend on it.

That being said, it works very nicely as a panini press. The lid is flexible, and has a heat proof spot where you can tilt it to accomodate the thickness of your panini. The heat dial is generally accurate, so if you follow your instincts or the little cookbook, things turn out well. It's easy to clean up.I don't have enough room on the counter to let it out, but like most DeLonghi stuff, the style is very nice.

I thought the pan would be ruined. It cleaned up great and looks as good as new.I will say that I never had anything stick to the pan, eggs turned out great and even cheese wiped right off.You would think they had a non-stick coating but they don't.After the one almost caught things do stick to it from time to time but it still cleans up wonderfully.

Weber Style 6435 Professional-Grade Grill Pan

Weber Style 6435 Professional-Grade Grill PanThis received top ratings from America's Test Kitchen (Cooking Illustrated & Cook's Kitchen). I was skeptical because I have tried about a dozen different grill pans in the 18 months, but none have really worked. This is the best I have used yet.

One was a square-ish pan and the corners snapped and became unusable. A common problem with many pans; they are welded and not stamped or folded. The welds usually break due to the high heat in the grill.

My old favorite is a bowl style; it's decent, but the problem is the top is bigger than the bottom so there is not a lot of actual grilling space. As a result you either have steamed veggies or you have to keep stirring.

The biggest complaint I have about most grill pans is the holes. Either they are too big and things like cherry tomatoes and sliced onions fall through, or the holes are too small. Small holes have many problems: difficult to clean, too many and the food gets too charred, too many holes and the metal separating the holes breaks...etc.

This pan is the best pan I have used yet. It it made of one piece with NO welds; the sides are bent up to create a lip and give the user an edge to flip and turn food. Also, the holes are not actually holes, they are slits. This means that one does not have to worry about food slipping through the spaces; from time to time sliced onions get stuck, but not really a BIG deal. It works great for Portabella mushrooms though it is not just for veggies, it's great for fish. Another big seller is that this is stainless and easy-ish to clean. It's not going to be non-stick easy to clean, you will have to scrub, but with a Brillo pad and elbow grease it's not a big deal.

The only complaint I have is the size. I have a two burner grill (unless I can talk my wife into getting a new grill next summer) and the pan can be a little too big for this type of grill. This "complaint" is not that big of a complaint since I usually don't do veggies at the same time as the meat.

If Weber updates this pan, I would recommend making it available in a smaller size and upgrading the metal; it's a little light weight. It's not bad, a little more heft would be nice.

If you have a grilling fanatic in your family (even if it's you) then buy this pan. It's great! You won't be disappointed. Get this pan.

When I was growing up in the Midwest the outdoor grill meant only one thing, MEAT!Fortunately people are becoming more sophisticated in what they choose to grill. Now it is not unusual to find fish, shrimp, mushrooms, asparagus, you name it, cooking right next to burgers and steaks.

The only problem is, of course, smaller foods can drop through the grill and onto the fire.I have purchased screens and disposable grill pans before and they worked just okay. When I saw this pan and how reasonable it was priced I had to get it.

I like the build of this pan, very heavy-duty without being too thick. The raised sides keep the food from falling off and makes the pan easy to carry. It takes a little effort to clean (I use a SOS pad) but that is to be expected.

I use a small Weber--the Q200-and it is just big enough for cooking for 4-5 people. This grill pan fits perfectly on it but if I want to cook both meat and veggies at the same time I would need a bigger grill.I thought that I would make this little video to show the pan in action.Thank you!

Best grill pan ever. Raised edges keep everything in the pan. Small openings in the bottom of the pan makes certain that nothing falls through. Big handles make it easy to move around the grill. I've been grilling for 37 years and this is the best grill pan I have ever used.

This pan saved our grill! We have a low-end gas grill that was given to me and my husband as a Christmas gift.No matter what settings we tried it would either burn the food or leave it raw. With this pan, we can turn the heat up to where it should be and the food doesn't burn! The only downside is that it is a bear to clean.Other people have recommended Easy Oven Off but I haven't tried that yet.

At the time I purchased this, the product description on Amazon incorrectly stated the dimensions as 14 x 11 inches in one place, and 17 x 11 x 1 inches in another. These are both wrong. When I received it, it stated clearly on the package that this grill pan is 13.5" x 18.5" x 1.5", which incidentally won't fit on my grill. I've submitted the correction to Amazon, but in the meantime buyer beware.

Admetior 28cm Stainless Steel Skillet with removeable digital thermometer

Admetior 28cm Stainless Steel Skillet with removeable digital thermometerI just received the smaller, 20cm version of this skillet as a gift and am delighted with it.Before, I was always burning butter, omelets, pancackes because the skillet would continue to warm up after I started cooking on my electric stove (yes, I always turn down the temp a little after I start cooking). It was just too hard to tell how hot the skillet was until the food started burning. No problem with this guy you can watch the skillet temperature rise and fall as you warm it up, add ingredients, or simmer.I'm ordering the 28cm version tonight.

The electronics use a standard AAA battery in the handle. The battery is easy to replace.I was a little worried about how heat might damage the battery, but found that as long as you put the skillet on a burner that's sized for the skillet (or smaller), the handle stays reasonably cool.Heat spreads very evenly across the bottom.

Pros: Very simple to use.Easy to remove the temperature module for washing, dishwasher safe, the display has large, easy to read numbers, the temperature sensor responds very quickly to changes in skillet temperature, the display tells you the ideal temperature for 11 common foods, an alarm will beep if the temperature gets too hot for what you're cooking, and the walls of the skillet are nice and high, and the skillet (remember, I have the 20cm version), while sturdy, is not too heavy.Clear instructions, although you hardly need them for basic operation. Lastly, because food isn't over-cooked, the skillet is easier to clean.

Cons: It would be nice to disable the over-temperature beeper if you know you will be watching the food cook. There was a clear piece of protective shipping plastic I didn't notice on the underside of the handle when I cooked the first time.It shriveled, but didn't burn or stick to the skillet or cause any damage, so just make sure you remove it when you unpack your skillet.

Farberware Premium Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set with Stainless Handles, Platinum

Farberware Premium Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set with Stainless Handles, PlatinumI got these pans as a "oh-gosh-I'm-moving-I-need-new-pans-QUICK" set. They were on sale, so I figured above $50 and under $100 for a nice set of pans would last me a few years. All I have to say is... meh. These pans are mediocre. The nonstick coating is nice and seems to be lasting well (2 months into using them every day). However, they are really, really light! As someone who cooks every day, I prefer pans that can stand up to any saute-ing, whisking, stirring, or shaking I can throw at them. I have to be careful what I put into thesenothing really heavyor they'll be off balance and difficult to use.

These pans will work great for someone who doesn't cook a lot, like a college student, or just for like scrambling eggs and reheating soup every now and again. For someone who loves cooking, though, these are not a viable option. I don't expect these to last me more than a year at best, since they already have scratches and deep stains. I'll be looking for some heavier, pricier ones soonor better yet, building my own set from individual pieces.

This is not a heavy duty set of pots and pans. Before buying mine I did some research and discovered that I could save alot of money on a good set of pans by making sure to care for them properly. I think if you do that with these, you'll be pleased. While I don't think you'll be giving them to your children and them to theirs, they'll probably last a kid through 4 years of college or so. Lightweight, handles stay cool, they really, really do clean up easy. Just don't use metal utensils or full blast heat on them and you're good to go.

I purchased an individual piece from this set at a discount retailer. I was in the market for a open stock circulon frying pan but just didn't want to spend the money at the time. I picked the small frying pan up in the store and noticed the weight on it was decent, the bottom sturdy and the handle rubber (these on amazon are metal...) I cooked two omelets this morning for my fiance and I and used spray oil on the first one to make sure it did not stick. The second one I used no spray. Both omelets released from the pan beautifully and I even let the second one sit a little longer, almost to see if it WOULD stick. It didn't. I don't think these are the greatest pans, they aren't heavy duty but they won't warp easily either. We are getting married in September and I just switched the expensive set of cookware on our registry to this. I figure, if it lasts us four years, at this price, I will be pretty pleased. I like to use low heat for cooking because I believe its easier on your stove and your cookware, I think if these are well taken care of they will last just fine. :)

I agree with many reviews in that this pan is wonderful for roasting veggies, baking potatoe french fries, etc. However, for some reason, after a while, one day, you go to pick up the pan from the oven, and it is cracked....right down the middle.Very dangerous, and very upsetting at the price you pay.I have contacted Pampered Chef about this, and they will do nothing.Because it is over a year old.Really? So they are only supposed to last one year?Wow.I had another small casserole baking dish from Pampered Chef that the same thing happened recently, with a piece of chicken breast in it.Cracked right apart on the bottom.Same story of Pampered Chef. Not good customer service....almost rude. So, I am out quite a bit of money. Two pans at $35 each; and a dish at $20.Almost $100 out. Will I buy another one?Not if I can find something elsewhere.Other than that....it's a great pan.

The large bar pan is an essential baking dish in my kitchen.I use it to make pizza, brownies, cinnamon muffins, breakfast dishes etc.I just roll out a pizza dough from Pillsbury and then brush it with a little oil and garlic then pre bake the pizza for about 10 minutes.I then remove the pan from the oven and add fresh tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, zuchini and sprinkle with some shredded cheese and italian spices. Then I put it back in the oven for about 15 minutes and out comes a great taking pizza with a wonderful crisp crust. After the pizza is eaten and the pan is ready to clean, I simply run hot water over it and use the included nylon scraper to get any baked on food off.My pan has been used for over a year and looks brand new because I have followed the manufactures directions to never use soap of any kind on it.Believe it or not soap is not needed to remove food from the pan.The key is to first oil it well on the first use and each use thereafter.Stoneware makes baked goods so good and I am so glad I have one in my kitchen. It really doesn't take long to clean it and it is so worth it.I love my Large Bar Pan.

This is my all time favorite stoneware pan.It is great for oven frying anything, and we also use it to make Naan.Sadly I broke mine...really stupid, dumped hot water on it in the oven trying to steam french bread.I can't wait to get the new ones broken in....

I did not even know what stoneware was until I went to a cooking class offered by a Pampered Chef hostess at our apartment complex. There I learned to bake a Killer Kahlua Chocolate Fudge Cake in microwave oven using a Pampered Chef Stoneware Fluted Pan. This is when I also learned of the The Pampered Chef : Stoneware Inspirations cookbook. What a find! There are some truly GREAT recipes in this book. One of my favorites is the LEMON GREEK CHICKEN where it is recommended the cook use a Medium Bar Pan. I did so but found that using a Large Bar Pan affords me more room to create this most tasty dish. You can also create wonderful dishes with either of these pans such as SPICY CHICKEN WINGs, ROASTED VEGETABLES, SHRIMP-STUFFED PORTOBELLO MUSHROOMS, FLORENTINE STUFFED CHICKEN BREASTS, CHILES RELLENOS CHICKEN and CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER TORTE. I think this is an outstanding piece of bakeware. It is a pan definitely worth having.

Nordic Ware Divided Skillet Omelet Pan & Poacher

Nordic Ware Divided Skillet Omelet Pan & PoacherThe description fails to note a warning contained on the back of the product's label regarding glass/ceramic cooktops; "Use of high or even medium high heat will damage this pan and your stovetop."

The description states, "The pan's heavyweight construction".Actually the pan is made of very thin, lightweight aluminium. This explains how the pan can be damaged by medium high heat I guess.

Yes, I'm aggravated by the omission and false statement. It might show.

I returned mine.

This has proved to be just what I needed. I have an older Antionette Pope Cookbook (1954)which features a recipe for a fluffy omelet. The recipe requires a divided pan. This pan is ideal for that recipe and works perfectly. The egg poaching insert works well too. I bought this pan specifically for this recipe and couldn't be more pleased. My family loves the omelets the pan (and I)are able to produce. E-mail me and I will share the recipe(...). Then you'll be able to appreciate the beauty of this cookware.

The pan worked as advertised. The metal is thin so be careful about over heating. A thin pan helps when cooking an omelet. A heavy pan will overcook.

Love the flip over design... Well made and works great. Be sure to use wooden tools as not to scratch it...

The added bonus of the egg cooker is very nice. As eggs are the best foods you can eat, I eat a lot of eggs...

I hand wash the pan.

I bought this to replace an omelet pan that was at least 30 years old.The handle finally broke off after decades of service and left me in search of a replacement.I found this, bought it, and have been dissatisfied ever since. It is NOT a heavy duty pan (very thin in fact), NOT coated in durable non-stick material (peeling after perhaps 6-10 uses and very sticky even with butter or cooking spray applied liberally) and certainly doesn't cook evenly (burns by the hinge and remains raw at the outside). The search for a suitable replacement for my trusty old pan continues.

This pan is cheaply made and everything sticks.I went to QVC and bought a great omelet pan item #K6518 and what a difference! It's not a divided pan but makes great eggs!

Lodge Logic Dutch Oven with Loop Handles

Lodge Logic L8DOL3 Pre-Seasoned Dutch Oven with Dual Handles, 5-QuartWhen I saw the price, free shipping, and factory pre-seasoning,this dutch oven proved irresistable. The size is great and the black color was attractive.Sadly, the factory pre-seasoning did not meet expectations! I learned to cook using cast iron, and I still own several "original finish" cast iron skillets, griddles and specialty pans (tri-ply stainless steel is wonderful, but some things just cook more evenly with cast iron). While cast iron is not difficult to season,it was just an added bonus to order a dutch oven that I thought would have an even, well applied finish to begin the seasoning process (properly seasoned cast iron pans only get better over the years). When the dutch oven arrived, I was surprised by what seemed to be a discoloration under the finish on the inner surface of the pot lid. I used the dutch oven for the first time to make chili. The steam from the chili caused the "pre-seasoning" on the inner surface of the lid to mottle badly, and the area that had initially appeared discolored was revealed to be covered withrust. A tell-tale metallic smell was also present (usually a sign that your pan might need to be seasoned again). Needless to say, I was disapointed. This pan proved to be MORE effort than the original finish pans since I had to scrub down the lid to remove the remainingmottled pre-seasoning, and to remove the rust. I then just seasoned the lid properly the old-fashion way in my oven. All in all, the Dutch oven is well worth $25 (and the saved $12.66 in shipping charges is also appreciated), but the Lodge Cast Iron Manufacturing Co. has a reputation for quality that this finish did not meet.I contacted the company to express my concerns (ie, did I need to take additional steps to remove all of the factory applied finish) and to ask if this problem was evident in other pans in the pre-seasoned line. The Lodge Co. has not responded to my email. Bottom line, before paying full price plus shipping, for anything in the pre-seasoned line, I would compare the cost to the original finish, or to the beautiful new Lodge enamel cast iron items.

Short review. This will become one of the most important pieces in your kitchen.I like the handles better than the other lodges, and NOTHING compares to cast iron.

Alton Brown raves about this thing and for good reason. He also writes of a casserole pot, don't get it unless you are a chef. This works everywhere that one does.An excellent buy.

My only word of caution.I love the loop handles, but IF you are one of the rare people who still cook with a campfire, get the other 5qt lodge.

First off I enjoy quality kitchen tools. I never minded paying for a quality tool. But when you get prenium quality at a rock bottom price, well it just doesn't get any better than that. Also any of the cast iron products from Lodge will easily last a lifetime or two, with minimal care. I previously owned a 7 quart duch oven and loved it. But my daughter finally has moved out, and it's just the wife and I at home now, so I downsized to a 5 quart dutch oven. I was happy to see Lodge offer a dutch oven with side handles instead of a wire bail, because we do most of our cooking at home in our oven, not at a campfire. The 5 quart dutch oven and 10 inch skillet would be a perfect gift for someone just starting out in life. They probably would not realize the value of what they recieved, until they are cooking a pot roast or a pot of chili for their grandchildren thirty years later. Update May 2011. I just purchased another Lodge 5qt. dutch oven to give to my daughter's boyfriend as a birthday gift. We gave him a 12" Lodge cast iron skillet a few months back, and he loves it! Our daughter tells us he uses it every single day. So we thought we would add to his cast iron collection, by giving him a 5qt. dutch oven. At the very least he can learn to make chili and pot roast. By the way, I got an exception deal on this dutch oven on Amazon.com. The lowest price I have ever seen on this item, and free shipping too. I hope he learns to love this Lodge 5 qt. dutch oven as much as he does his Lodge 12" skillet. Once you learn to use your cast iron dutch oven, your crock pot will never get used again. Our grandparents knew something that many people today don't know. Cast Iron cookware works well, and works for the long run.

The dutch overn itself is just what I expected: sturdy and indestructible cast iron. The pre-seasoning was blotchy. I removed it with detergent and water, then re-seasoned using the directions in the old Joy of Cooking: coat generously with grease/oil, place in 450 degree F. oven for 30 minutes. Much better.

Why five stars if the title says "fourteen pounds of grief"? Read on.

I got this probably six months ago, and had a moment of laziness. Normally, I'd go ahead and add several more layers of seasoning, even on the pre-seasoned iron. But I didn't this time. Which was ok. The Lodge pre-season isn't perfect, and they don't claim it is. It's just a good head start.

Shortly after I got this, my wife and I left my step-daughter house-sitting for the weekend. When we got back, I found my new dutch oven ruined. Apparently, my step-daughter had burned something in it, helpfully grabbed a stainless steel scrubby and some Comet cleaner and tried to scrub out the crunchies. She only succeeded in scrubbing off the seasoning, but not the burned-on stuff. So she threw it in the sink to soak.

Yep, pretty much a complete list of things you should not do to cast iron.

The bottom four inches of the dutch oven were solid orange rust. My wife took one look at the expression on my face and started hustling her daughter out the front door. I wasn't going to kill her. Honest. Especially when I realized that the five-quart pot was way too big to serve as an urn for her ashes.

Instead, I grabbed some sandpaper, took the rust down to bare metal, coated the pan with lard and threw it in the oven. Rinse, lather repeat.

And that's the beauty of cast iron. You can't mess it up, and if you do mess it up, you can fix it. My dutch oven is better now than when it was new, and it will only continue to improve.

It's forever-ware. Lodge makes a great product, right here in America, and you can't buy better cast iron. I love mine for stews, and for the occasional batch of no-knead bread. Oven, cooktop or charcoal grill, this dutch oven turns out delicious food.

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel Nonstick 8 Inch Omelette Pan

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel Nonstick 8 Inch Omelette PanWe recently purchased an induction range, and found that our Contemporary (anodized aluminum) Nonstick pieces were (of course) not induction capable. We purchased this 8-inch Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Nonstick pan at a great price, hoping against hope that it would be induction-ready (though it was not advertised as such!) Much to our delight it WAS! As with all our Calphalon pieces it is very sturdy, wonderfully finished, and easy to clean.

For those who cook on induction: a word of caution. Emboldened by our success with the 8-inch CS Nonstick pan, we also purchased a 12-inch CS Nonstick pan, also from Amazon.com, which was NOT induction capable!

A word of CAUTION: apparently not all of the 8 inch pans are induction capable! My guess is we got an OLD one, and that Calphalon has reformulated their pans (cheapened them) and thereby reduced the quantity and/or quality of steel. We have reduced our rating of this product accordingly. I hope that someday Calphalon will realize that quality matters, and go back to the original formulation.

This little pan works so well. My husband and I bought the stainless steel Calphalon Contemporary pots and pans, which we like a lot, but the pans were really hard to clean. We bought this non-stick stainless pan to replace them and it cleans SO easily. We love it!

Farberware Premium Aluminum Nonstick 10 Piece Cookware Set with Black Handles, Platinum

Farberware Premium Aluminum Nonstick 10 Piece Cookware Set with Black Handles, PlatinumThis is a VERY lightweight set of pans. I was very disappointed.

With "Premium" in the title, I thought they would be good quality, heavy pans. They are so thin. They look and feel like you could just bend them in half and I am SOOOOO tempted to try it, but then I won't be able to return them lol. Even the handles are lightweight.

The nonstick coating inside the pans almost looks powdercoated and you can just tell that it is going to bubble off or something. They are not smooth inside there is a bit of an odd texture. These pans look like they would warp easily and I would NEVER trust these in the dishwasher, even though it says they are dishwasher safe. The fry pans are very shallow and the lids do not fit them. Speaking of the lids, they are lightweight too.

I have another set of Farberware and they are at least double the weight of this set. The metal is much thicker on my other set and like I said with "Premium" in the name of this set I just thought they would be just as good as my old set if not better boy was I wrong.

The first thing I tried to cook was eggs and they stuck pretty bad, even with plenty of butter in the pan. I did not have to scrub forever to get it off like the previous reviewer mentioned, but I did have to scrape a bit with a nylon spatula to get it all off.

I wouldn't recommend these, not even for a starter set because you can get a better set for the same price.

The only good thing about them is the color it is a very pale goldish silver color.

Also, these pans come in another version as well that have metal handles instead of black, so be aware that they are the same (crappy) set.

I purchased this set because it was a pretty good gold box deal a little while ago. I wasn't expected chef-quality for the price and was skeptical based on some of the reviews.

However, it's a decent enough set if it's for someone starting out on their own or if you're looking for something inexpensive. I haven't had any problems with the non-stick coating as others have mentioned but I would not consider these to be a "long term" set. If you can afford it, go with a higher quality set (I have a couple non-stick ceramic pans from Paula Dean and they're pretty amazing but can be pricey).

My biggest complaint about this set is it just doesn't have the "weighty" feel that is synonymous with high quality cookware. I have a really high end cookware set but just needed some non-stick for certain things (even if I don't use it very often) so this set is fine for the occasional use. It is uncharacteristically light thoughalmost feels like aluminum...it's a little weird. Also, the balance on the pans is off. As others have mentioned, if you don't have it centered correctly on the burner or if there's nothing in the pan yet while your cooking, it can easily tip. I've never had this happen with any other set I've used so this came as a bit of a surprise to me.

If this was my primary set I would have probably sent it back. However, if you're just using it for specific things (I mainly use the two skillets when I do use it) or are just starting out, it's just fine. Definitely look around to see if there's a comparable or better deal though. They're not the best but they're ok (but the finish on it is kind of cool).
