KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials Brushed Stainless-Steel Nonstick 8-Inch Open Skillet

KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials Brushed Stainless-Steel Nonstick 8-Inch Open SkilletThis is a good nonstick skillet and it's great that it's dishwasher safe. The only thing I would change is I'd make the skillet sides a little lower. When I slide eggs out, they tend to roll and flip. When I use my other skillets with lower sides, I don't have that problem.Overall, I am very satisfied with it.

I really appreciated reading other people's opinions on the KitchenAid cookware. I have been looking around for a while and was ready to up-date my kitchen utencils when I came across the KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials Brushed Satinless Steel pots-n-pans. I liked what I read about the products and ordered the set along with the 8-inch Nonstick open skillet. My entire family is enjoying cooking with the items. I especially like the soft grip handles that do not get hot when you are cooking. My family and I look forward to many great years of cooking with the new KitchenAid pots-n-pans.

Farberware Aluminum Nonstick 4-Cup Egg Poacher Skillet

Farberware Aluminum Nonstick 4-Cup Egg Poacher SkilletYech! The first time I used this poacher I had eggs that had a strange scent and taste. As one other reviewer noted, I deduced this came from the plastic cups.So I soaked and washed and soaked and washed and soaked and washed. To no avail-my eggs STILL smell funny and taste sort of weird.I will be replacing this with something that has metal egg cups.Other than the scent and taste imparted to my eggs, this works well.I guess a food stylist might find it handy for making pretty, photograph-ready INEDIBLE eggs.

2002: WELL, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE NICE TO HAVE A WELL MADE EGG POACHER HANDY. AS I ASSEMBLED THE PAN I THOUGHT IT LOOKED PECULIAR...THE NON-STICK COATING IS CONTINUOUS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE PAN TO THE OUTSIDE; AND IS ALSO ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE LID. IT LOOKS LIKE A HARD-ANODIZED "WANNABE".

THE CUP HOLDING INSERT IS A BIT FLIMSY AND THE BLACK CUPS ARE JUST A BIT SMALL.THERE IS A WARNING NOT TO LET THE PAN GET TOO HOT BECAUSE THE EGG CUPS WOULD MELT ABOVE 200 DEGREES...THIS SEEMED A BIT STRANGE SINCE WATER BOILS AT 212 DEGREES.

I WASHED ALL THE PARTS, COATED THE CUPS WITH A BIT OF OLIVE OIL TO HELP THE EGGS SLIDE OUT MORE EASILY. AS THE WATER HEATED UP, I STARTED TO SMELL A PECULIAR ODOR LIKE PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCTS. I WASHED EVERYTHING WELL SO I EXAMINED THE PARTS AND TRACED THE ODOR TO THE PLASTIC CUPS.

THE PLASTIC WAS OUTGASSING THIS UNPLEASANT ODOR NO ONE WOULD WANT IN THEIR EGGS. I DECIDED TO LET THE WATER SIMMER A WHILE TO DISSIPATE THE ODOR.I RE-WASHED THE CUPS AND DECIDED TO TRY ONE EGG. IT LEFT EGG RESIDUE IN THE CUP EVEN THOUGH I LUBRICATED IT FIRST.

I HAVEN'T TRIED IT AGAIN. I GUESS THE SMALL COVERED PAN MIGHT BE USEFUL FOR OTHER PURPOSES. I MIGHT TRY IT AGAIN SOON... SEEMED LIKE TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO SHIP BACK A 15 DOLLAR ITEM. IT CAN POACH EGGS...POORLY...BUT IT IS THE LEAST IMPRESSIVE FARBERWARE ITEM I'VE EVER PURCHASED.

2006 UPDATE; STILL A PIECE OF JUNK...GOING INTO THE "GIVE-AWAY" PILE... USED IT TWICE...USELESS! CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS STILL BEING SOLD!

Don't waste your money or time. This poacher doesn't do what the package implies. The egg cups are plastic and besides the odor, the eggs stick no matter what you do. Cleaning is impossible, and I doubt if the plastic is a healthy material to cook eggs in.

Very attractive appearance of product, but the egg cups are a thick plastic and poor conductor of heat, so it cooks poorly.I replaced it with a poacher with metal cups.I consider it useless. It takes way too long to produce a poached egg and even then the egg is not quite right.

I was happy with the egg poacher my parents had that is about 10 years old and it works 10 TIMES better than this dinky piece of junk.Eggs stick to it no matter how hard you wash the plastic cups and you can't get the cups out easily.I would have gotten more use out of my money by buring it and using it to try and poach eggs than to use this product.

Calphalon Professional Nonstick 12-Inch Round Grill Pan

Calphalon Professional Nonstick 12-Inch Round Grill PanI was using my George Foreman grill for almost everything, but decided that once in a while I didn't want to clean the grill pans and I would rather cook on the stove, so I ordered this Calphalon grill pan.

I have other Calphalon products and they hold up very well. The non stick finish makes it super easy to clean.I do not use any non stick spray oils in any of my pansjust olive oil, butter or canola since it is my understanding that the non stick sprays can ruin the finish.I also hand wash my pans.

So far, I am very pleased with this pan for the price and the durability.

I've had this grill pan for about 5 months now, and I use it regularly (a few times a week). It's awesome!

It's such a time saver, since I can grill right on the stove without having to start up the outdoor grill. This is especially true if I only need to grill up a few pieces of meat or make a quick grilled cheese sandwich or if there's a thunderstorm outside and I really want to make a burger...I heat up the pan, do what I need, and that's it. Coming from a guy who loves to BBQ and grill, the only thing you'll miss is (obviously) the smoky flavor (nothing a little liquid smoke can't fix), but you'll get everything else-the sear, the char, and the grill marks.

The easy cleaning is probably what won me over. 8 out of 10 times, I just let the pan cool naturally on the stove, and then come back later in the night to wipe clean with a paper towel and then rinse under warm water by hand/soft sponge with a little bit of dish soap. A handful of times when there's a lot of char and gunk on it when I'm done, I've let it cool down and fill it up with water to let it sit in water. That way, it softens up all the burnt pieces and makes for easier paper towel wiping & hand rinsing later on.

Highly recommended!

I can't imagine not having this pan.It is perfect for hamburgers and bacon because it keeps whatever you are cooking/grilling out of the fat. This pan is light enough that it heats up very quickly while still feeling sturdy.

We purchased this pan for its size and for the ridges in the bottom. Our explicit use is for cooking bacon and while we are sure it works for plenty of other things it works perfectly for our bacon mornings! It also works really well for omelets too but for us it was a no brainer to buy because the standard pans are just too small to cook any decent size portion of bacon.FYI, the ridges also help keep the whatever you are making from burning.Either way if you're looking for a good pan to cook up some bacon look no further. As an aside, the pan is very light and almost seems flimsy but our opinion is that it's just a light pan that does its job well.

Bialetti Aeternum 3 Piece Saute Pan Set

Bialetti Aeternum 3 Piece Saute Pan SetI bought these pans mainly because I had health concerns regarding the Teflon on my non-stick pans (Chalpalon). After reading several articles about more health concerns, I decided not to take the risks and look for alternatives. I saw an Ad in La Cucian Italiana (I'm a subscriber and I cook A LOT) and went to Amazon, read (few) raving reviews and bought three pans. I was persuaded by the fact that ceramic is non-toxic and this who-ha-ha so cool nanoceramic technology and I said to myself this is the real future of pans. Ceramic is a great cooking material for 1000s of years. Those Bialetti scientists had found a way to attach ceramic to Aluminum [that we all know how great (but toxic) it is for cooking)

I'm writing this review a month and a half into using these pans.

The good

-Great looks

-Heat evenly and fast!

-real non-stick

-lightweight

The bad

The nano-ceramic coating on the Aluminum is really "nano". it is so thin that i don't think I'm familiar with a measurement unit to describe it. It is thinner than a paper. it is thinner than a hair. it is as thick as...I really can't find any familiar object that is this thin. If something will come to mind, I will add it later in the review.

Now, you probably ask yourself, how do I know that?

Because after two weeks or so, i started to notice small gray dots on the rims of one of my pans. at first I thought that this is a small grain of something. When I took a closer look, I realized that it is a small hole in the nanoceramic coating that covers --->> Aluminum.

Since it was on the rims of my pan I used the pan more until today, when I found a small hole in the coating in the middle of my pan.

Now I can tell you that the coating is so thin that you can hardly feel the hole in it with your fingers (you have to try hard to identify the hole by touch).

The holes are 10th of a millimeter in diameter, but they are there. On the rims (the top circle) I have many of them by now but I have only one hole in one pan in the center of the pan.

Now a word about me and how I handle my kitchen tools:

I never wash pans and pots in the dishwasher. I wash them always the same night after they cool down. Same is true for my knifes.

In addition, nobody washes my dishes! moreover, I only use wooden spoons when I'm cooking.

I can't believe that I was the cause for these mini holes in the pans.

One more thing to emphasize it is not a scratch just tiny holes. After say 30 days of real use. The real concern here is the Aluminum under the coating which is surely toxic.

There goes ~$100 down the drain.

I will not recommend this product to anyone.

I won this aeternum pan at Fabio from top chef's restaurant. It is beautiful and works great.Unfortunatley I too am beginning to get the pin holes in the coating. My husband uses this pan almost every day for the last month and a half.

Today I was washing it and the handle just broke right off. Lightweight cast iron just snapped. I had planned to buy the set as it is coming out with Fabio's backing on QVC next month. Not so sure now.

I've been using a Teflon set of Bialetti cookware for many years and wanted to supplement my set. Got the recommendation from a web cooking show and made the purchase based on past experience with the brand, cost (very reasonable), recommendations, and looks (they go with the Wolf red very nicely).

Been cooking on these for a month or so now and can state with certainty that they are the best performing pans I've ever used. Nothing sticks to them, I can see the progress of browning as it occurs due to the white interiors, and the pans are light weight enough to encourage flipping rather than stirring.

My pans are stored in a drawer under the cooktop and I put kitchen towels between each to avoid scratching them. This has worked for me so far.

Construction is light duty handles are connected with a central bolt only and are likely to become loose after some time. I'd be happier if they had this set with riveted handles as on my other Bialetti set.

The set did not come with covers fortunately the covers from my previous set fit well. It would be nice if covers were available open stock.

All in all this set of pans was well worth what I paid for them both in terms of performance and looks. I've recommended them to a few friends and will likely add more pieces to my collection over time.

I'll report back if they deteriorate.

Nordic Ware Holiday Pancake Pan

Nordic Ware Holiday Pancake PanSo cute! (see customer images). Mine is an older version, I think, because mine only has 4shapes (I didn't get it on amazon). I wish that mine had seven like this one though, because 4 at a time is slow! My only complaint is that you have to be patient fliping them over. it is hard to get the spatula into the circular insets, and I had to use my fingers to help after the spatula pried it up, but they all came out perfectly! They didn't leave chunks behind on the pan at all.

Whole wheat pancakes do not look good... the shapes, while accurate, are harder to see (at least with the recipe I tried).

If you are having trouble with the pancakes, try this recipe:(recipezaar recipe #106670). It's the one I have been using with the pan, and I've had no trouble with the pancakes using it.

It's very easy to use. Trick to flip the pancake: get one of those cute tiny mini spatula that is about the size of each pancake or even smaller so that it won't touch the adjacent one while flipping. Use it to lift the pancake slightly, then with help of a butter knife or spreader or little fork, flip it over...easy without problem. But the pattern shows well only one side of the pancakes, unless you use a batter that doesn't bubble too easily, then you sometimes could have a slight pattern on the other side after flipped.

Buy Nordic Ware Holiday Pancake Pan Now

When I received the pan and read the instructions, it said to bake it in the oven.Well, instead of the oven, I used it to cook on my electric range top and they came out perfectly. You do see the different images on the pancakes but be careful that the butter doesn't turn brown before you pour the batter into the mold otherwise it ruins the pictures because everything just looks brown on the pancakes.I give it 5 stars because it's a great pan to use and it makes the perfect size pancake every time.Cleaning it is a snap.

For best results I found that putting the batter in clockwise or counter-clockwise and flipping in same order produces a lovely golden result... We bought several styles and they were such hits that we ended up sending a couple home with our guests.Highly recommend.

I knew this would make the perfect gift for a family member that traditionally eats a pancake breakfast on Christmas morning. And it was! The big concern was the batter sticking to the pan but it was not a problem. GREAT GIFT! A great tradition. Thanks for making a quality product.

Kalorik Indoor/Outdoor Non-Stick Portable Grill, Black

Kalorik Indoor/Outdoor Non-Stick Portable Grill, BlackASIN B003DA7TY4 I want to love this thing, if only because I gave it as a gift and I hate when I give something that isn't awesome. This IS awesome, though it does have one flaw that really bugs me.

I've always hated the Foreman grills. They sell, in my opinion, only because of Foreman's name. They're not new, novel, inventive, unique... and they never were. The day they hit the shelves, I was using a five year old unit much like them, but better. So when I went shopping for an indoor grill and kept running into people pushing Foreman's grills, I was frustrated. Finally, I stumbled across the Kalorik in a store and asked about it, did a little online research and decided to take a chance.

The cooking surface is large, half griddle and half grill, and excess fat drains easily. The lid, which can act as a windbreak and serve as a handle too, is clear glass, making it easy to keep an eye on your food without having to open it all the time, letting heat out. It heats up quickly, cooks evenly and, with removable parts, cleans in a flash.

The only complaint I have is about the lid. When you lift it, the hinge sinks smoothly into a pocket, where it can stand upright. This is great, when you're cooking no holding it with one hand and trying to do everything with the other, you've got two free hands! But, when you try to close it, it's not quite so smooth. You have to lift it from the pocket it's resting in and I've usually been unable to close it with one hand, so I'm forced to step away from the unit, set down what's in my hand, then return to close it. If you've got small kids or cats (dogs don't usually spend much time walking on counters), this can be a real problem. Not the worst problem in the world, but annoying, especially from a company that, according to their own site, is "synonymous with fine engineering".

AnnaLovesBooks

This little grill is awesome!

I have owned it now for a year and have no problems whatsoever. I absolutely love it. I never really could figure out how to not overcook food on the gas grill, I always left it up to my hubby buit he could never seem to get to it! So I decided to buy a grill that was easy for me to use. I use it both inside and outside all the time. My family and I camp on the weekends and this grill is always thrown in the back of the truck. It is not huge but it is plenty big for my family of four. It is split 50/50, grill/griddle but I have no problems cooking meat on the griddle side. I love that you can grab it and carry it by the handle (just be sure to clean the grease tray before doing this, opps!) It really is easy to clean; you can just throw all the pieces in the dishwasher. I was not sure about the actual grill part, but it says you can and I have not had any problems with doing so. Also very easy to wash by hand. I also love the fact that the lid is clear and does not smash the food like the foreman type grills, but still drains much of the grease.

I will say, as another reviewer mentioned about how the grill stopped heating up, it does, but it does not actually shut off, it just seems to "cool down" a little if it has been on a while. It still continues to cook though. I love this feature because my ADD sometimes will stray me away from my cooking, for a while, a long while sometimes.=) When I finally realize I have chicken still on the grill I think, "Great, burned, dried out chicken" Nope, not the case! Still the moistest chicken I have ever had in my life! This grill knows when to cool down and wait. Back to my ADD, I have actually left this thing on all day before and never had a problem with it. So it really only seems to "cool down a bit" when it has been left on a really long time, and a tiny twist of the heating control knob and its back up. Therefore, if you grill food that needs to be on the grill for a long time over an hour or so, this is probably not for you. However, if you want something that's there, easy to use, cooks awesome, and cleans easily, Do not hesitate to buy this sweet little grill!

I Love it, would buy it a hundred more times, and would definitely recommend it.

All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Fry Pan

All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Fry PanThis is probably the best fry pan available. You might want a nonstick pan in addition for cooking things that need a nonstick surface such as omlettes, etc. This pan is good for cooking everything that does not require the nonstick surface such as sautés, meat and fish, etc.

The stainless steel shell with aluminium inner core is a great design in that it evenly distributes the heat to all areas of the pan, including the sides. Some cheaper pans only have a heat conducting layer on the bottom of the pan, not on the sides.

I like everything about this pan. It's beautifully made, looks great and performs wonderfully-form follows function. It's the perfect size unless you routinely cook for a large family. I debated getting the 12" version of this pan at first, but when I took a look at the 10" I realized it will be fine for 99% of my cooking.

I admire good manufacturing of quality products. This pan is true quality through and throughout and should last you a long long time.

After going with a non-stick version and having problems with that (not knowing the best way to use it), I exchanged it for the stainless version. This was a great decision.First, it showed me that All Clad does stick by its lifetime warranty.Second, because I learned that I don't need non-stick for everything and I found out the best way to use this type of cookware.

The 10-inch size is great for most everything.Every once in a while I could use a 12-inch version for more volume but not often.I use this guy for eggs, meat, stir fry and more. The pan heats really evenly and feels great in my hand. The handle does a great job of dispersing heat and staying cool, too. And, though it doesn't come with a lid, the large lid from the stock pot fits it well.

When things do stick, I don't worry about attacking it and scratching off the surface.I can use a scraper, sponge, or scouring pad without any problems. And it is safe in the dishwasher although I recommend handwashing as much as possible.

Some cooking tips I learned with this type of pan:Use a lower heat, not because you have to (like with non-stick), but because it heats so evenly, you often don't need that higher temperature. Also when you throw something in, whether you are using butter, oil, a spray, or nothing, let it sit and cook a bit before you try to move it around.Hamburger, for example, will adhere to the pan at first and if you try stirring it up right away, small pieces will be stuck and are more likely to burn.Rather, wait until it has a minute or two to cook on that side. The parts that adhere will cook, separate and lift away from the pan so you can stir it easier. And when you are done, if there is any food stuck to the pan, put some water in it and let it boil for a few minutes. This will help lift it off and make cleaning easier.

Again, a great pan, a great brand, and definitely worth the money since it will last you a lifetime with the warranty they give you.

Buy All-Clad Stainless 10-Inch Fry Pan Now

I am a careless and brutal cook and destroy cookware all the time. I can't use nonstick because I'll ruin pans by leaving them on max heat and forgetting about them. So this one was worth the high price because I've had it for almost two years now and it's still good as new. Handwashing seems to leave a little discoloration after heavy use so every so often I pop it in the dishwasher for a gentle scrub (though that's not recommended, you can still do it).

This pan cooks so quickly and evenly that it's hard to mess up. Foods brown nicely but don't burn. The handle is sturdy and never gets too hot.

I often use this this in place of a wok, but it's really too shallow for that and has a bit of a spatter and spillage problem if you try to rapidly stir-fry. I wish it came with a lid. Also, I have not been able to cook eggs in it they stick to the bottom like glue no matter how much butter I use. But a good soak and a couple minutes of elbow grease cleans that right up.

I have this and several other all-clad stainless pans. For anyone looking to purchase a stainless pan and move away from teflon coated or lower quality cookware, all-clad stainless is a must. They are expensive, but well worth the cost.

Please note, there is a learning curve that comes with owning these type of products. If you're used to cooking with lower quality cookware like farberware or anything else you buy at Wal*Mart, you'll find yourself burning almost everything when you start using these pans.Because of the high-quality design and aluminum core, I've found that I needed to lower the temperature drastically to achieve the same results with the lesser pans.I'm still learning how to cook eggs without burning the bottom, but fortunately, with a short soaking in soapy water, the pans clean right up.Great for cooking crepes, sautes, meats, etc. With the all metal construction, they'll move easily to the oven as well.Read the literature that comes with the pans for tips on cooking with all-clad stainless.

I bought this pan and love it. It has the perfect slope to flip food. As far as the handle goes...well, that's another story. All-Clad quality is top notch but they fall short on the handle design. The handle does stay unbelievably cool, but it's dam uncomfortable. I compensated for it being so narrow by purchasing a suede handle cover. I still rate it a five though.

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware Set

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware SetFor a good even heat, excellent quality of workmanship, and a dependable name, I can't think of anything better than All-Clad.For years, I used cheap cookware store non-stick skillets and hand-me-down pots and pans my mother used when she first got married. What a difference it makes.

Most cookware is way too thin, which leaves you with hotspots. For years, I would make up for this by using a cast iron "defuser" to even out the heat and keep the direct flame off the bottom of the pan.I don't have to do this any more. With the triple-layering, you get even heating, regardless of whether it's the middle of the pan or the outer edge.

Personally, I like the stainless.MC2 wasn't around when I bought mine, and I might have chosen that because of the low-maintanace exterior, but I'm not regretting it either.I don't have to be worrying about scratching through the coating with it and it cleans up easy enough with a little water and even less elbow grease.

Cooking will always be a chore, even if you enjoy the act in itself, if you never invest in good cookware and good knives. This is the first step on at least one of those. You might also wish to add a double-boiler, the steamer insert and a 1 qt. saucier; and maybe a larger stock pot (12 qt. if you can afford it), but this really lets you hit the ground running.

i've been using this set for over three years now, and have been very happy with it.

durability:no issues with handles coming loose, etc.almost all of the pans have remained even completely ding/dent free.my only complaint is that the bottom of one pan has domed slightly, so the pan does not lay completely flat on the burner, and heat distribution is affected.so while overall durability has been good, i'm knocking them down a point for this flaw.

cooking:these pans perform well.with the exception of the one mentioned above, all conduct heat evenly.no problem getting good crystalization of fats from meats, or browning vegetables in the oven.i think you definitely need a wider array of pans in your kitchen a nonstick and a cast iron are two i can think of right off the bat as well as some different types of metals for different applications.but this isn't something that you can hold against this product.just understand that this set won't cover ALL your pan needs.

cleaning:i've seen a lot of reviewers talk about how hard it is to clean these pans.it should be noted that pans are harder to clean, and stick more, if they're used less frequently.i think some of the issues people are having is because they're not using the pans frequently enough, or are not cooking foods at the proper temperatures.i've had no problems cleaning these pans.

pricing:aside from my issue with durability mentioned above, the is the only other area i feel detracts from this product.if the price is no object, or you can appreciate the cooking qualities of the pans and need something that looks good, i can see spending the money on this set.and i certianly wouldn't refuse it as a gift!however if you're on the fence about the price, and it's a financial stretch for you, i think you could put together a set of pans that will work just as well for much, much less.professional restaurant supply stores will sell pans that will work just as well as these for much less.they just won't be as pretty.so understand that you don't HAVE to spend this kind of money to get the same results.

so overall i'm happy with these pans.i'm disappointed one has warped slightly i should see if it's eligible for a replacement but aside from that they're great.

I bought this set back in January and must admit, it's gotten a lot of compliments from friends and neighbors. As with anything stainless steel, which is apparently all the rage these days, the look and feel (heavy!) of this cookware is impressive.

The most impressive thing I've noticed so far is the even temperature control throughout all of the pieces I purchased and have used so far.Even when boiling water, you can see at the bottom of the pot that the heat is being distributed evenly, which is a major downfall of most other cookware.

The first downside is that they are, in my experience, a PAIN to clean.Following the manufacturers recommendation to NOT put them in the dishwasher, I have washed them by hand after every use.I highly recommend washing them IMMEDIATELY after use to avoid having to spend a lot of time getting them clean.

The other downside is that I think these pots and pans will work much better on gas cooktops than on radiant cooktops.Fortunately, I'll have gas cooktops again in a few months, but really feel that buyers with radiant cooktops should test out a piece or two before commiting to the whole set.

Other than those two minor downsides, this is a "keep-for-life" set of pots and pans, and well worth the investment.Check out the rest of the All Clad stainless series for other great pieces (highly recommend the omelette pan to complete this set in particular).

This is my second set of All Clad. When I installed a Viking gas cooktop a year ago, I discovered why all the pros use All Clad....my thick-bottomed, thin-walled cookware couldn't take the heat and food burned on the sides rather than the bottom. My darling husband gave me a full set of MC2 and from that point on I was hooked.I have added several pieces via Amazon's great buys, both MC2 and stainless which I love.Mind you, my previous cookware was all non-stick so this was a challenge but once I figured out the proper way to cook I've had no problem with anything sticking and I hardly ever use any fat besides cooking sprays. It's so simple:preheat the cookware! It only takes a minute on medium heat then you can spray the pan and add your food and nothing sticks.Cleanup is a breeze and the stuff is so gorgeous I bought a stainless rack to display it.If you are serious about cooking, buy this set. It's a fantastic deal and it will last a lifetime.I'm betting some of you will even go on to buy a pro-type cooktop or stove after you start using All Clad. It's really true that the right cookware makes all the difference and this is the right stuff!

A chef who works the line in one of New York's best restaurants may tell you that your cookware won't really change the way you cook. That chef, however, may just be jealous you just bought one of the best investments you could ever make. Consider this. The computer you're reading this on probably cost more than 500 dollars. It willlast you, generously, 4 years. The set of All-Clad you just bought also cost more than 500 dollars. It will last you, conservatively, the rest of your life if you take care of it properly.

You can get the pro's and con's from a lot of other reviews and reading material, but I want to share one bit of advice that made the final choice for me. I did hours of online and print research before finally making a choice. I tried matching up individual pieces, compared sets v. non-sets, looked at what I really needed in closer detail, and, lastly, "agonized" between Calphalon and All-Clad.

Why did All-Clad stainless win? I love technology, especially stuff that makes our lives easier (like cleaning). So I was leaning pretty heavily toward Calphalon One for a while (it's even slightly cheaper). But then I came to a quick conclusion one night while eating at a Florentine's house: tried and true, stainless steel can make some incredibly good food. If you're in the market now, as you most likely are considering you're reading this (hopefully), then maybe, like me, you'll think to yourself, maybe I should wait a while for this "One" concept to see how well it lasts. All-Clad will last me my life. Proof positive. And I won't have to be sending any of it in the mail (hopefully).

It wasn't an easy choice, but after just about 5 meals I've cooked in them, my friends are already smiling (and my roommates are incredibly happy). The cleanup (which is what really racked my conscience for a while. I am a college kid at heart who hates to do dishes) is, in all honesty, not AS easy as non-stick, but after a little soaking in soapy water and with the magic of Bar Keeper's Friend, well, done done and doner.

While this may be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase for you, beware, the pans are infectious.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4-Inch Skillets

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 11-3/4-Inch Skillet with Iron Handle, CherryI lovethis pan! We have a large family and I easily fit 5-6 chicken breasts in this pan at one time.

You don't have to cook with high heat because this pan easily distributes the heat evenly. Low heat is also best so the food doesn't stick.

Clean up is really easy!!! Warm, soapy water and that's it!

This is definitely a quality made pan. I have several pieces from Le Creuset and know they will last me through my lifetime.

I was looking for a pan to cook eggs (omlets) in, but didn't want to get non-stick, or teflon or whatever. This pan was recommended by the nytimes. It's not as perfect as an old seasoned cast iron skillet, but the le creuset pan is big, heavy and practically non stick, especially if you use a bit of oil.I cook everything in it -chicken, hamburgers, fried eggs and omlets, sausage, pancakes -and it's easy to clean, almost as non stick as my teflon pans (which I chucked). For what it is, it's pretty great.

First of all, let me say I agree with the reviewer who deducted stars from the 9" skillet due to the non-stick coating.Since non-stick coatings are chemicals, I refuse to use any cooking utensil with the coating on them. The original, baked enamel finish on this skillet works great. The secret is using moderate heat and adding oil once the pan warms up, then adding the food items. If the meat sticks, it will unstick as it carmelizes (this also applies to their grilling skillets).I find that I can just wipe mine out and keep using it until I make chili or something messy like that. Then all I do is fill the skillet with water and let it sit a while, then it rinses clean. At the maximum, I've taken a boar bristle brush to a couple of spots once or twice, that's all.

I beseech this company to leave the non-stick coating off their skillets even though one reviewer below seems to prefer it.Or at the minimum give the consumer a choice but I'd bet most would prefer the original, satin finish. In fact, I bought this skillet because of the fired enamel finish as I discovered my well-known name brand stainless steel skillet and stew/pasta pot has too much nickel in them so I can't use them.Anyway, I love this skillet. It makes a good wok too as the burner is under the center of the pan.I can fry up one veggie, push it off to the side where it stays warm while I fry the next one, then push it over until I'm finished.Did I say I loved this skillet?

I wish they made a lid for this skillet as I had to buy another brand which doesn't match but it works.Since most skillets come without lids, this is being silly, I agree. So then, I highly recommend this skillet both for cooking and for easy clean-up.

While most reviewers have gotten the facts straight, others are either reviewing the wrong product or are living on another planet.A few points:

*The interior of this pan is ENAMEL, a lot like the working surfaces of your teeth.Do your teeth do a good job for you?Probably yes.Have you ever had something stick to your teeth?Probably yes.

*The negative reviewer who said that the nonstick coating was peeling off must be unaware that there is no such coating.

*The negative reviewer who said that everything sticks and the pan must need to be re-seasoned is not dealing with an enameled pan.

*The negative reviewer who said that bacon would not crisp to the edges must be putting cold bacon into a cold pan, or cooking over a candle.

Beyond the cooking surface, a few more points:

*The cast iron core takes longer to come up to temperature than other materials, and also retains heat longer.

*Cast iron is heavy, which is good for reaching high temperatures, and not so good in any other way.

I use this pan often enough to leave it out on the stove, where it looks great.Cleanup is no harder than with any other pan I have.If I've let it sit overnight or longer, I reheat it a bit, wipe out with a paper towel, then let it soak in soap and warm water for an hour or so.It then cleans up with a scrubbing sponge.

It's great for searing and cooking meats, and develops a good "fond", or foundation for a pan sauce.I don't use metal utensils in it, or steel pads to clean it.One drawback is that you can't do a chef's flip for smaller foods, because it's too heavy, and the handle is too short for tossing.

With the rubber handle cover and the domed glass lid, I also use this pan as a wok and a tagine. It's my go-to choice, and looks great after a year of use.

UPDATE JANUARY 2012:Two years now and going strong.I treat this pan with less TLC now than I did when it was new, and it doesn't seem to mind.A few scratches on the bottom, but the interior is perfect. The rubber sheath for the handle is getting looser, and I might need to replace it after a while.

Cooks evenly as all get out, cleans up fine in the dishwasher, and the non-stick coating seems to work just fine, but the thing weighs more than my Grandpa's old blue Buick!

It does have the extra little handle on the far side to make it easier to pick up with two hands, so it is manageable. But it is heavy. And the handle gets HOT.

So, if you want a great pan and are willing to put up with the weight, hot handle, pick one up when it's on sale and you'l be a happy cook.

NapaStyle Porcelain Nonstick Aluminum 10-Inch Skillet Terra Cotta

NapaStyle Porcelain Nonstick Aluminum 10-Inch Skillet Terra CottaI first purchased the 8-inch skillet several months ago and loved it.I got the 10-inch recently and plan to get the largest size soon. These are wonderful--they're just the right weight and everything I've cooked in them has turned out perfectly. Also the non-stick makes them really easy to clean.I normally cook with stainless or anodized aluminum, but some things just need to be done in a non-stick skillet to make my life easier! I would have given this 6 stars if that had been possible.

Lodge Logic LPGI3 Pro Grid Cast Iron Grill/Griddle

Lodge Logic LPGI3 Pro Grid Cast Iron Grill/GriddleI absolutely adore this griddle, and I use it almost every day.

At first, I wasn't sure that I wanted a cast iron griddle. They are HEAVY and not dishwasher safe . . . so I tried a few nonstick brands first --top dollar brands with high ratings.

I hated them. The nonstick surface was inferior. On a reversible griddle, the underside became sticky and difficult to clean. The heat was distributed unevenly. One claimed to be dishwasher safe, yet when I put it in the dishwasher, some of the nonstick surface came off.

I am extremely health conscious, and I use very little oil when I cook.Food often stuck to the "non-stick" surface -go figure.

I wanted to find a great griddle that I could use for many things, including cooking like the chefs in Japanese Steak Houses -I dreamed of using a small dash of my favorite oil and flinging shrimp, chicken and veggies on the griddle like a pro.No, I didn't think I could toss my tools in the air or catch the shrimp in my pocket . . . I just wanted the flavor and the ease of cooking.

By this time, I was on a quest, and the non-stick stuff just wasn't cutting it.I did a little research, and I learned that pros recommend the Lodge griddle, so despite my apprehension, I thought I'd give it a try.

Wow!The pre-seasoned surface is perfect and better than any non-stick surface I have ever used.Just a tiny bit of non-stick spray is all I need, and everything from pancakes to eggs flip with ease.Grilling Japanese style works perfectly.

On the grill side: whole steaks, chicken, fish -fabulous, fast, and everything has those beautiful grill lines.Nice for grilled vegetables, too.

The griddle is indeed heavy, but it's okay.I wouldn't recommend lifting it if you have serious muscle or joint problems, and I wouldn't want to drop it on my foot, but otherwise, go for it.I'm a softie, and if I can handle it, so can you.

As for not being able to put the griddle in the dishwasher:I don't believe I'm going to say this, but I don't care about having to handwash it.The griddle cleans so easily, a few swipes and I'm done.If I forget to clean it and wake up to it the next morning (okay, so I'm not Suzy Homemaker), I just lay it straight across the top of my sink -not IN the sink, but rather, balanced from edge to edge, on top . . . and I run a little water over it, let it set for a few minutes, and it'seasy to clean.

A word of advice:Just as it says in the instructions, you need to clean the griddle without soap (water only) to preserve the pre-seasoned finish. However, should you want to use soap, you can. There are instructions included in how to re-season the griddle -it's easy.

I frankly didn't like the idea of not cleaning with soap.I didn't feel as though the germs were destroyed . . . but soap doesn't really kill germs, it merely works as a surfactant that makes water wetter so things become easier to clean.

If you want to kill germs, heat is one of the best ways to do it.Every time you use the griddle, you preheat it on the range for about five minutes or so -you're killing far more germs than if you had used soap!

You can also rub your griddle with a very light coating of oil, stick it in a hot oven and disinfect it that way (this is also similar to how you reseason it).

This is one of the easiest, most wonderful kitchen tools I own.It is a breeze to use, I feel like a pro flipping all that food around.Everything comes out great, and it is very easy to use, and food does not stick.

I have since added six more pieces of cast iron to my collection, one triangle cornbread/scone, a round muffin/biscuit, and four cast iron skillets. Two of the skillets are antique -talk about well-seasoned!I do not use the bread/muffin bakers as much as I thought I would, but I use the skillets almost every day.I love them.

PS:I remember reading somewhere that using cast iron also adds iron to your diet -not sure how true or how much, but if it does, it is a nice extra, yes?

Goodness I see two chief complaints posted here: First, some people say it's heavy. Well, yes, it is. It's over 200 square inches of iron, folks. The weight is clearly advertised, so I'm having a hard time understanding this complaint. The second complaint some have is uneven heating. Lodge could fix that all they have to do is make it thicker and much heavier, and even more people would be unhappy about the weight.

Since the number of comments about the weight and the uneven heating seem about equal, I'd say Lodge did a great job of hitting a happy middle ground. Personally, I count on a little uneven heating, I'll sear breakfast chops on one end over a high burner and flip eggs on the other over a lower burner I've even been known to run mine on just one burner, cooking on one end and warming on the other. When I was a grill cook, that's how I ran my grill, hotter at one end. You also have to allow for some "settle time" for cast iron compared to aluminum, it's a fairly slow heat conductor, which gives cast iron it's wonderful thermal stability. But it takes time for the heat to distribute, so give it a few minutes.

I can't comment on the factory coating I strip and season the cooking surfaces on all my iron, new or used. I made one modification to mine, which Andrew pointed out I took a dremel and ground a shallow notch in the outer lip of one end of the grease gutter to help pouring the grease out if you do this, be sure to smooth the edges of the notch to avoid heat stress cracks they love to start at sharp corners and don't make it too deep just a small notch makes a big difference when dumping grease.

While I'm at it I'm a heretic a blasphemer an apostate. My confession? I sometimes clean mine with soap to be more precise, detergent, which most modern dish soaps actually are. I think the "no soap" thing is a bit of mythology that's come down to us from Great-Grandma, whose dish soap was basically lye and some type of animal fat (my grandma used bacon grease for her soap). So yeah, maybe lye soap was a bad idea, but it had a very different chemistry from today's dish detergents, and as far as I can tell, modern detergent won't touch the baked-on grundge on the bottom of my aluminum and enamel cookware, and they don't touch my properly seasoned iron either. I do always make sure to rinse very thoroughly, and re-oil after cleaning, however, as that thin film of oil is life to cast iron.

I love this grill on the cooktop, but if you want to see this beauty at it's best, and you have at least a 20" charcoal grill, set it on your charcoal grate and have some fun. I don't think mine ever cooled off during the week or so after hurricane Charley, while we had no electricity. I had stocked up on hardwood charcoal before the storm, and as my neighbor's fridges warmed, and their freezers thawed, they kept bringing me food to cook before it spoiled and of course, they shared with the cook. The neighbors saved some of their food, the Lodge grill got quite a workout, and my family ate very well!

It's a well-made product. It's American. And it's a great value. What's not to love? Just don't drop it on your foot did I mention it's heavy?

With all the reviews raving about this griddle, I was quite excited about my purchase.I had planned on using this on my gas range over two burners for cooking pancakes and such. The dimensions of my burners seemed to be a great match for the size of the griddle, but it turned out to be unusable. I returned it.

On many gas ranges this griddle will not lay flat, but will be tippy and unstable. The reason for this is the handle cutouts on the griddle. It is a little hard to explain so I have uploaded a video to illustrate.

If it weren't for the cutout handles, this griddle would be perfect and would work on a much larger set of stove top ranges. However, the current design limits its use for many potential users.

Other than that, the quality appears good. I have several other Lodge products and have been happy with them.

Update: I didn't measure the dimensions between the inside edges of the handles before I returned it. This would be helpful those considering this griddle. If anyone has this griddle, if they could post this measurement in the comments, that would be great.

I just received my griddle last week and I've been using it daily with excelent results every time. Mine arrived with a few minor scratches on the preseasoning but all of them seem to be disappearing quite soon (I spray a little pam all over the griddle before using it). I cooked some hamburgers on the grill side which turned out delicious and they got those great grill marks on them also. I've had no sticking problems at all with this thing so far. Cleanup is easy providing you have a stiff brush, a large sink and the strong arms required to carry it from the stove to the sink every time you wash it (this thing weighs 15 pounds). I highly recommend this griddle to anyone, it's very well constructed and looks like it will last a lifetime with proper care.

I've owned this grill for over a year now, and I want to let you know how it has worked out so far.

It fits over two burners, so it's great for cooking several items at once.It heats evenly but tends to overheat a little with the burner at the highest setting.(DUH!).Even then, I have not experience damage to my stove-top.

I love the way it "releases" everything it cooks.I have cooked the best Japanese style grilled beef/potatoes, South American arepas and cachapas, and everything in between. You name it, it can do it!.Even after I grill fish, or anything which makes a mess, all you do is pour some water on it while it's hot, and wipe it down with a terry cloth. No soap is needed. Then I cover the surface with a light oil rub and it's ready for storing. In fact, mine sits on the stove top for the most part, and it blends nicely with my kitchen.I recommend that for older folks having difficulty lifting it.You practically never have to move it, if you don't want to.

I live in a condominium and chose not to buy a patio grill.I don't need it with this grill.

I bought another for my sister!!

T-fal E6080862 Ultimate Nonstick Hard Enamel 12.5-Inch Fry Pan / Saute Pan, BlackThe coating seems quite sturdy. Nothing has stuck to the pan yet. I've used it for about two months now. All in all, a great pan. Don't turn the heat too high, medium heat only and this should last a long time. I am very pleased with this purchase!

Buy it! You won't be sorry! By the way, this is a large pan and even my larger burners don't cover the bottom. I hope this review is helpful to someone.

Not much to say about this product other than:

Food releases perfectly.

Pan browns better than any non-stick I've ever used.

Can use metal utensils.

Dishwasher safe.

I am not usually a nonstick pan person.I needed one for certain dishes so I went to my favorite resource, Cooks Illustrated. They recommended T-Fal Professional Total Nonstick Fry Pan but it was back-ordered so I went with this version.I've had it for a couple of weeks and have been very satisfied.I used it to make a healthy stir fry and it handled that task much better than my Le Creuset skillet. It allowed the meat and veggies to move easily in the pan while still allowing a nice browning and slight crust on the meat.It will never replace the traditional Le Creuset for me, but it is a great addition to the collection and performs well when nonstick is necessary.According to CI, certain T-Fal models also out-perform much more expensive models.I recommend this to anyone looking for a nonstick skillet.

First T-Fal enamel cookware pan.Have had it almost a year now and still no scratches, even after using metal tongs. The pan is heavier than you expect and this size is pretty large.I use it to stir fry, cook eggs, brown cuts of meat or fish and finish them off in the oven and especially for making pasta sauce and adding pasta and finishing it all off in the pan.I would definitely buy this again over their cheaper lines. The heft and construction quality is really nice. The fact that it is oven-safe is even better.Cleans up well too.

Polymerose Mini Egg FRY PAN with Glass Lid- Liquidation Price!

Polymerose Mini Egg FRY PAN with Glass Lid- Liquidation Price!I love sunny side up eggs, and I was looking for a small fry pan, with a clear lid to monitor the progress of the frying egg and turn the fire off at the perfect moment.Personally, I love glass lids because I can see the egg while AVOIDING the shooting of burning butter drops all over my arms.

This little pan (and I mean little, because it is a little less than 5 inch diameter) solved my problem: good quality, looks cute and I can fry my egg to perfection without getting burnt with small explosions of butter in the process. So far so good...

The pan was a little smaller than I expected, but is very nice and perfect when cooking for 1 person.
