George Foreman GR144 144-Square-Inch Nonstick Family-Size Grill, Silver

George Foreman GR144 144-Square-Inch Nonstick Family-Size Grill, SilverWe have used this grill now for about a month and are very satisfied with it.We've used it for full chicken breasts, pork chops, chicken breasts sliced in half, hamburgers, bacon and much more.

I have to say, that this grill has made cooking a snap for our family. The larger surface area is the key on this, as every meal we've prepared on it has been for a family of four.

However, there are a couple of things that keep this from a 5 star product in my opinion.First is cleaning. It's not very user friendly, and paper towels are hard to get in between the valleys. You can use a sponge, but then yoursponge is pretty much dead after a couple of uses. They give you 2 spatulas that we've begun using to scrape the dry matter from the grill.Secondly is that there is no temperature control.Just plug it in, wait 8 minutes for the grill to heat up (I think it heats up a lot faster than that, however, the manual does say to wait 8 minutes) and hope you have the right time set for your meals. The instruction booklet does give recommended cook times which we have found to be way too long.Just tonight we cooked 4 .25lb hamburger patties in 5 minutes and they were well done.Lastly, it does not cook bacon very well. The strips near the top always burn, while the strips near the bottom don't seem to cook very well at all.The bacon itself tends to settle down in between the cooking area so the top doesn't really touch/cook the bacon from the top.It probably cooks it more by radiant heat on the top than direct.

All in all, we are very satisfied with this grill.Just be prepared to make mental notes on cook times for foods you like and use their initial cook times as a guide until you figure out how you like your food cooked.

Got this George Foreman grill as a gift.Promptly grilled sausages last night, bacon this morning, a panini this afternoon and hamburgers this evening!

It's a super versatile appliance heats up rapidly, cooks food evenly and swiftly.I like how it comes with 2 drip trays to catch all the fat you won't be eating! Also the two spatulas are helpful. Will be using this constantly! Can't wait to try salmon, veggies, etc.Only drawback short cord but understand that could be a safety feature.Love this grill!

Good size.Good layout.Better than the rounder grills. This is my fifth big grill from George. If ever one needed a variable temp control, this is it.This sucker is HOT compared to the other Foreman grills. The grills have a drip channel around the grilling surface which is most useful when cleaning. For some obscure reason the engineers didn't extend the outside channel ridge on this model around the back. When cleaning the top if you drip any liquid it runs onto the counter. This is the only one I've seen with this unfortunate feature.

I LOVE my grill. I've been using it every day for about a week and a half now and I get delicious results every time. I've made sweet italian sausages, steaks, pepper steak, chicken, burgers, tortillas and grilled veggies.

Cleanup is a pain if you don't clean it right away and you let it sit. For example, I let the grill heat up for about 6 minutes, dropped two steaks and as they sizzled I grinded some salt and pepper on top. I then dropped the top lid and let them sit for about 3 minutes gorgeous grill marks, crunchy crust and perfectly medium rare. I served the steaks and after we were done eating...I went to clean it and the 'crust' that develops from spices and juice was stuck and difficult to clean. I used a soft sponge and turned the unit back on so it would release the gunk easier. I got it cleaned but I managed to rub off some of the teflon. A small 1 inch section of it.

Since then I always grab a paper towel and right after I remove the food and and turn it off, I remove anything on the grill plates with the dry paper towel. I then take the grill (unplugged) and lean it over the sink and use a wet paper towel.

I would have purchased one of the models with removable grill plates but there were too many complaints of the plates not heating up enough, this one is just perfect once you get the hang of it.

It would have been 5 stars if the teflon didn't rub off so easily.

***Update***

5 Months later and still the best :) We used it about 3 times a week, sometimes more and have no complaints.

****Update 2****

It's been 1 year 5 mos and the plastic black handle broke yesterday...really not sure why it broke since we're not hard on it and have been using the grill once a week, sometimes once a month. I suppose the heat weakened it over time? We plan on using it still but with a pot holder.

I bought this for my mother. It is our family's first George Foreman grill, but I couldn't imagine what use the regular size one would have unless you are living alone and cooking for just yourself.Within a few days after buying it my family has already made bacon, chicken, and steak on this grill, and it's been great.

Precise Heat Large Steam Control Skillet

Precise Heat Large Steam Control SkilletThis product is an excellent choice for steaming large fish filets and anything else one might have in mind. If there is any "down side" to this steamer it is the size which could be a storage issue if kitchen storage space is limited.

The quality of the steamer is excellent with an exterior mirror like finish which cleans up with ease and does not leave water spots.

The gauge of steel used is sturdy yet not heavy. The bottom is thick unlike less expensive steamers.I have made pasta and soups without the steamer tray with excellent results. The handles do not heat up and may not be used in the oven. The top plastic knob on the lid has a simple to use steam release valve which works very well should you wish to control the amount of steam being used.

Make sure when using this steamer you have set aside a 'landing zone' on the kitchen counter to set the top. Please remember, this steamer is 14 inches in diameter not counting those friendly helper handles.

Paula Deen Signature Cast Iron 11-Inch Hoecake Pan

Paula Deen Signature Cast Iron 11-Inch Hoecake PanThe product itself did not disappoint and is certainly not limited to hoe cakes and the like.It is a great 11-inch general purpose griddle of heavy construction that will hold heat well.

However, the literature which accompanied the pan cautioned against using it on a glass cook top.I am quite satisfied with the quality of the pan, but I have had to cross our glass drop-in cook top off the list of places where I can use it.

I love my hoecake pan, and can't wait until it gets real seasoned. It is already seasoned and ready to use, but it will be even better once it gets a good Old coating on it.It is my go to pan that I keep on the stove. You can cook on it, throw it in the oven to heat something up real quick.I enjoy cooking, and I love gadgets. So I love differnt cooking tools too.Plus you get a recipe for homemade pancakes.Thank you Paula Deen.

West Bend 84915 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker with Tote

West Bend 84915 5-Quart Oblong-Shaped Slow Cooker with ToteI've been slow-cooking since the first CrockPots (in the 1950's? -time flies). I've used a couple of dozen or more during that time. Settings were all Low-High-Off, later adding Warm. No bells and whistles. Most of these cookers were very unreliable on temperature control. Except for programming capability, little else has changed in 50 years.

The West Bend Versatility series is a quantum leap forward: non-stick metal pot that can be used to brown meat (any experienced slow-cooker knows what a convenience that is!); converts to a griddle if you don't have one handy; and has an infinite heating control from barely warm to just-short-of-boiling.

Because I'm a gadget geek, I made some tests. (First, please be aware that most slow-cookers typically peak at around the same point --somewhere between 180-210 degrees F, regardless of the heat setting. The main difference between Low, Medium, and High is how quickly the peak temperature is reached. Some of the more sophisticated cookers (the Versatility is one) have lower or higher peaks related to the setting. For the serious cook, these types are preferable).

My tests started with the pot 2/3 full of room-temperature water. I used a calibrated thermometer probe in the center of the pot. I put the cover on, but it wasn't seated where the probe wire exited.

TEMPERATURE SETTING #5 (HIGH)

2:00198

2:45209 (Flatlined)

I didn't do a time series on the #1 and #2 settings, but they topped out at 149 and 160 degrees respectively.

Remember that the Versatility setting is infinitely variable, so in-between heating speeds can be used. Also, bear in mind that these temperatures were measuring water only -cooking food may be different.

These ranges were relatively the same on both the 5-quart and 6-quart cookers.

Speaking of quarts, be aware that the "5-quart" has an actual maximum capacity of 4.3 quarts at overflowing. West Bend Customer Service still maintains that it's 5 quarts. The "6-quart" model is an actual 6-quart capacity. Practical capacity for cooking is, of course, less.

As other reviews have noted, there's no "off" setting, so you havee to unplug. However, the cooker end of the cored is unpluggable, so no big deal.

Other reviews have complained about the non-stick coating deteriorating. I refer them to the instructions in the manual, under the heading "Using Your Slow Cooker--First Use" wherein it describes how to avoid damage to the coating. I won't repeat it here -it's in the book. Also, note that while the coating is dishwasher-safe, it will last longer with hand-washing --a breeze due to the non-stick finish. Because so few users actually read directions, West Bend does not cover the non-stick under warranty.

All this said, the Versatiltiy is an incredible value for its price. It's a good example of how excellent design, engineering, and production can result in a quality product at very low cost. It's far and above any cooker I've used before.

4 stars only because it lacks an "off" switch, and the "5-quart" capacity is inaccurate and misleading.

Outstanding product and value!

This is my third West Bend Slow Cooker in 20 years.I got rid of my oldest one and now have two I use regularly. I ordered this one because it had a carrier tote; I take my slow cooker with me to covered-dish dinners and church socials. This is a nice extra feature, but I would have bought a West Bend anyway; I like the adjustable heat-not justhigh, medium and low. I use my slow cookers to thaw and reheat frozen foods, cook turkey breasts, and make soups. You can put ingredients in the cooker in the morning and come home to a hot dinner. This is a good product, easy to clean and can be used on the stove top or even in the freezer. I highly recommend it.

I got this because of a friend's recommendation about a year and a half ago.I was expecting more of a Rival Crockpot type of device and when I first opened it I thought this just is not going to work well.

I am really surprised. It cooks well on the range top, the griddle part also works well as a griddle, and when you put the two together it also works just fine.

I made a pot roast a couple of weeks ago.I first browned onions, garlic and carrotson the stove top. Then I browned the meat an all sides as well.Took that out and tossed a little wine in to mix it all up and then put the meat, the onions, garlic and carrots and bay leaves, rosemary and thyme in the pot.Added beef stock half way up the roast, set it on the griddle base, turned it to low and let it go for about 6 hours. It came out just right.Everything done in the one pot and just the way I like it.

Way better than the old type of crock pot in my opinion.Lots of uses in one device and easy to clean up as well.Could not do better and it was not expensive.

The only reason I can't give this product a 5-star rating is the color. (The picture on Amazon appeared white, the product box used for shipping definitely showed white, but the product is a matte-finish grey. I'm dubious about how it will hold up over time.)

I ordered this product to replace the same thing, received over 30 years ago for a wedding gift. And the only reason I needed a replacement was because the lower portion (element/grill) was lost in a move! All of the original item still worked when last used. I can't say that for any other electrical item that old in my house.

This product has been so reliable and convenient over the years for me that I love to give it for wedding gifts! It's the best way I've found to both brown a roast stove-top, forget it while cooking low on the grill with veggies or beans, and still take the dish to another location. The additional tote I now have with the new cooker will just make transport that much easier. And I frequently refrigerate the leftovers in the pan with lid. Reheating on stove-top is so easy.

Great product!

Smart Planet CDM-2 Pigs in a Blanket Maker

Smart Planet CDM-2 Pigs in a Blanket MakerI bought this feeling a little blind--there were no reviews and the product information didn't indicate how big the finished product is.I've used the mini-donut maker Smart Planet MCM-1 Mini Cupcake Maker before and read all the reviews for the corn dog maker Smart Planet CDM-1 Corn Dog Maker which helped me make my decision to purchase this product.

I've used it twice--the first time I used gluten free waffle batter, the second time I made gluten free corn bread some with diced up hot dogs. Each well holds 2-3 tablespoons of batter. If the wells aren't filled enough the tops don't brown. If they are filled too full the batter runs out and connects the wells, which wasn't a problem as the batter still cooks.Clean up was easy.

These make great little finger foods. I love that I don't have to heat up the oven to have nice baked goods.

Update: I made non-gluten free treats for family.I made mini pigs in blankets with little smokies wrapped in refrigerator biscuit dough like Grands. I split the dough into 3 sections and wrapped each section around a little smokies. I did the same thing with colby/jack cheese sticks--cut the cheese stick into 3 section and wrapped the biscuit dough around each section. This was a big hit with the grandkids. Another treat was just a basic muffin mix from the supermarket. This was very popular with my grown kids and grandkids alike.

This little machine is the best invention ever!I can't believe I was making mini corn dogs by hand in a Fry Daddy for my daughter who has numerous food allergies...now I just whip a batch of corn dogs or pizza rolls whenever she feels like having them and there is no mess to clean up.Great directions and suggestions included.

I totally agree with the other reviewers, this is a wonderful machine.I just received the machine and have made four helpings of mini corn dogs.It is not rocket science. The first time I placed the batter into the small cells, it leaked a tad, but not too much to be a problem. The next three times were a breeze.Yes, you have to cut the hot dogs in smaller pieces, but SO, just a few seconds to accomplish this feat.It is so fun to use and once the cooking is complete, you smile at your accomplishment. I read many reviews on this maker before I bought it. It works great and my kids love the bit size treats. Make sure you heat the unit and oil the reservoirs before using it.

The first time I used it I used refrigerated croissant rolls and precooked breakfast sausages. I had to cut the sausages to fit into the reservoirs.I cut the dough triangles into smaller pieces and wrapped the dough around the sausages. It worked real nice and only took a few minutes to cook.

I also tried cheese. I did the same with the cheese as the sausage. I cut them to small pieces to fill the reservoir and covered them completely with dough (leaving no holes.)If you try cheese, this can be real messy if you use too much or cook it too long. The first time I used cheese I let it cook too long. It was a little messy and I had to clean it up before using the unit again. The second time I chilled the cheese in the refrigerator and made sure I didn't cook it too long. (I believe I only let it cook two minutes.) This worked a lot better and didn't make a mess. Next time I am going to try chilling or freezing the cut pieces of cheese before cooking.

I gave this unit 4 stars instead of 5 because you cannot remove the plates for cleaning. I wish one of these companies would make a unit with removable and exchangeable plates, so you don't have to buy several units to do pigs in a blanket, brownies, donut holes, etc.

I was looking for a match to some older pans we had, which were T-Fal with the red logo on the bottom. Found out, these are the newer models! This is a great aluminum pan, and the handle bolts on somehow with a big phillips screw. This means no dimples/rivet heads in the pan! Only smooth, coated non-stick surface! I really enjoy the large 12 1/2" size too!

The bottom is a shiny aluminum, with a circular pattern in it. Looks kind of like a vinyl record pattern. The outside walls are grey, and the inside coated with non-stick. Also, the picture here makes it look like a deep pan. I am not sure if they used a different size pan, or the image got squished, but the pan is a lot wider, and the sides are normal height in regards to the traditional saute pan.

I sent for some matching, smaller pans too. They all work great, and match too! I have to admit, I never used aluminum pans before, but they are working out great! I am very happy with this item!

Want T-FAL/WEAREVER Initiatives10" Gray Saute Pan Non-Stick Interior & Exterior Discount?

First, I think expensive non-stick is a waste since the cookware has to be resurfaced or replaced once it's scratched or worn.I was looking for a super slick inner surface for not a lot of buck. The T-Fal pans were it.

The inside of the pans are very slick. They are not heavily textured like other pans. This seems counter-intuitive to me; expensive pans want to last longer so they texture their surface yet that adds more surface area for the food to stick to.As an example, I have a harder time cleaning the bottom of the pans than I do the inside.

The thickness of the pan is thin.It is thick enough to even low and medium flames but it cools very quickly.

My only complaint is the handle.Even as tight as the screw will go, two of my handles still move slightly side-to-side.It's not enough to affect cooking, but it's annoying.

Overall, I'm very happy with spending $17 for a super slick pan.

Simply Calphalon Nonstick 12-Inch Jumbo Fryer

Simply Calphalon Nonstick 12-Inch Jumbo Fryerfor those of you with glass or ceramic stove tops: this pan does not stay flat! It is fine when cold, but once heated (even to medium), it starts warping. Still fries fine, but the heat will not be distributed as evenly as one would wish...

Otherwise nice looking pan and seems like a nice non-stick surface.

This is the pan that you can cook anything in.Great for cooking stir fry or pan fry dumplings. The non-stick coating is excellent.Easy to wash and clean.Well-made hinges.Good quality pot.Love that it comes with lid.The pot is not as heavy as I thought, which makes it easier to wash in the sink.

The only con I have is that the smaller handle still gets a little hot and the rubber grip on that handle seems like it might come off one day if not careful.Other than that, we use this pot very frequently (several times a week) and enjoy it very much.If using this pot, I highly recommend cooking with bamboo or wood utensils so you won't scratch up the non-stick coating.I would recommend this pot to others and would buy again.

I never thought I would be writing a review for a frying pan, but this pan has inspired me to do so.We needed something in our kitchen that could be at home on the stove or in the oven and clean easily. This pan fits the bill and then some.I have been using it now for about 3 weeks and so far it has perfectly cooked anything I have put in it.Pork Chops? NO problem and NO sticking. Turkey Legs? Tender, juicy and again, NO STICKING at all.I have not had to use ANY oil or grease to aide in browning. The lid fits like a glove and let's you see the food on the other side. This pan is deep enough to trap all the meats natural juices and using the cover you can get a good self basting action out of it as well.

The only thing so far that surprised me is how HOT the handles get. This is only true of oven use, but bear in mind the handles STAY HOT long after the pan itself has cooled and you need to handle them with a pot holder, or two as was the case for me.I also am not attempting to clean the pan until it has fully cooled off so ensure no warping or buckling of the metal or premature flaking of the non stick surface.Speaking of cleaning, what used to take me 5 minutes of heavy scrubbing or much longer with other pans, is now a non issue! This beauty cleans in less than one minute and looks brand new afterwards.

So is this worth the asking price (currently 50 dollars) ?You bet it is!I consider it a bargain and if this skillet lasts more than a few years then I will have got my money's worth many times over. HIGHLY recommended!

REVIEW UPDATE 11-21-2010:After using this pan for more than a month I am still 100% satisfied!I have cooked whole roast chickens to perfection in this with enough room to use the lid.The non stick coating remains perfectly intact with no damage to the finish from heavy oven use and cleans up with just soap and water and a soft dish cloth.A truly fine piece of kitchen equipment.....

ANOTHER UPDATE 8-3-2011:One last progress report. This pan has held up beyond my expectations to constant and sometimes extreme use. It has been in the oven repeatedly for hours on end, cooking chops, potatoes, full chickens and even a turkey. The non stick surface has not worn off one little bit. It still comes perfectly clean each time with little to no effort and looks 99% new except for a very slight baked on grease discoloration on the handle. No warping of any kind and the handle grip looks and feels the same as the day we purchased it.Honestly, this really is a great piece of cookware and I am planning to add more Calphalon pots and pans to my kitchen.

I'm actually doing research to replace this pan,and was surprised to see it got such high reviews. I've had it for three years and as all the other reviewers said, it is awesome for function and nonstick-ness in the beginning.I love it and use it at least once every other day. However I feel it didn't last very long at all for the last 6 months it has been performing poorly and is no longer nonstick. Not peeling, just the layer of coating is very thin, discolored and sticks horribly. I never put it in the dishwasher, don't use abrasive pads/cleaners, never use anything but plastic/wood/silicone utensils but the coating just didn't last.I don't see anything else out there that seems to perform better so I may just buy this pan again and consider it is the price to pay for 2 years worth of use.Just wanted to add this review as someone who's had it for a while. It is the exact same "Simply Calphalon" but I bought it from Bed Bath and Beyond.

I'm from China and I use this to cook Chinese dishes. It is fantastic with glass top ranges.

Normally, the problem with most fry pans is that they are not deep enough for cooking chinese food. When you stir, the food comes out.On the other hand, the pans that 'tall' enough for real chinese cooking are normally have a very large and flat bottom. That's not good because the sauce does not contact the material well (in most chinese dishes, you start with just a little sauce by mixing vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, salt etc.it's not that much to cover those gigantic flat bottoms).Don't get me wrong. This has flat bottom too.But it's not that large. It also has a decent thickness for heat conduction.

Overall, this is the best choice I can find under one benjamin.Certainly gas range with *round* bottom fryer/pan is the best for chinese cooking.however, since not everyone here has gas range (i have never seen a non-gas range in China), we have to settle for this, don't we?

Matfer 12" Slotted Pelton Spatula

Master Chef Spatule Pelton Spatula'Cook's Illustrated':

"While they may be called fish spatulas, these flexible, thin spatulas are equally adept at flipping chicken cutlets and steaks. We tested five popular brands--three metal and two nonstick--by flipping numerous batches of flaky haddock fillets (in large and small skillets) and found (once again) that price is not indicative of value.

Priced around $7, the Matfer slotted Pelton fish spatula outperformed the Global, which cost eight times as much. The Matfer received raves for its comfortable handle, long blade, and exceptional performance. Because of its smooth, slippery plastic and Fiberglas composition (exoglass), the spatula nimbly flipped fish without scarring the delicate flesh (as the metal spatulas did), and it is completely safe for nonstick skillets.

We recommend fish spatulas with one caveat: They are designed for right-handed cooks. Some companies make left-handed versions as well, but Matfer does not."

JG caveat:Since this is not an Amazon site product, the ridiculously high $5 shipping charge may direct the purchaser to a gourmet shop, or cooking supplies store such as 'Bed, Bath and Beyond'.

I have had this product for many years now (between 5 and 10 years) and I love it.After I had used it for a few months, I got rid of all of my traditional shaped (rectangle head) spatula turners since I love the Matfer so much.It is comfortable in the hand and must have been ergonomically designed for turning.I am right-handed and due to the angle on this spatula, I assume that it would not be comfortable for lefties.

I use this spatula to turn foods in a pan (flip eggs, roasted veggies, etc) and especially for removing cookies from the pan.It is great for nonstick cookware. It has the right amount of flexibility. The grey color has discolored over several years (now a kind of yucky yellowish/brownish grey) and the front edge has worn slightly. But it has held up very well with my frequent use.The only thing I don't like is that sticky foods will get stuck in the slots and is more work to clean.Overall, I would definitely purchase again and I recommend this product.

This spatula was recommended by Cooks Illustrated.I agree with their recommendation. I never appreciated how bad my pervious non-stick spatulas were to use.The Matfer Pelton's shape and thin edge make it a useful addition to my kitchen tools.

Read Best Reviews of Matfer 12" Slotted Pelton Spatula Here

The "Product Features" for this spatula tout it as being "Heat resistant up to 430F degrees fahrenheit" and the "Amazon.com Review" says it's made to stand up to "extra-high heat" and that you needn't worry if you leave it leaning against a hot pan because "it won't melt."In fact, upon my first or second use of this product, it melted.I didn't even leave it leaning against a hot pan, or use it with "extra-high heat," as far as I can tell.I was simply using it to flip salmon fillets in a hot skillet, and the mere act of making contact with the skillet for a few split seconds to scoop the spatula under the fillets caused the front edge of the spatula to melt. So, can't really heartily recommend this for most skillet cooking occasions.

I fry a lot of foods and found the Matfer Pelton Spatula to be as good as its word for use on non-stick pans.It is both thin and flexible, and gets under delicate foods without gouging them, but has enough rigidity to handle their weight.Wide slots drain quickly.Haven't tested it beyond oil temperature of 375 degrees F.No signs of melting or degradation.

Cuisinox Elite 10 piece Cookware Set

Cuisinox Elite 10 piece Cookware SetThis cookware set is comparable to higher end products. It has a nice build, looks professional, and seems quite durable. 5 stars given for strong value and aesthetic appeal.

I bought this set on the recommendation of my culimary friend who said she thought they were as good or better than Al Clad. I could not be happier with the performance and looks of the Cuisinox Elites. They have a nice heavy feel to them, and the lids fit to exact. The handles are solid and give a nice grip. I couldn't help notice that even the simmer looked different probably due to the clad aluminum that extends up the sides. This set is a real wow and I am already looking to add to it.

Buy Cuisinox Elite 10 piece Cookware Set Now

After reading the previous reviews of Cuisinox I purchased a 2.8 liter pot. Much as I love cooking with it I find I do not use it because the handle is so narrow, it is impossible to pick up and pour with one hand. The narrow handle twists in your hand because of the weight with any contents. Even my husband (a big boy) found it very difficult. It means it takes two people to pour from the pot One to hold both sides of the pot and the other to controlthe contents being poured. For this reason,I would not purchase any more. Otherwise I like the pot.

Once upon a time, we really believed in Cuisinox. The company does not honour their warranty.

We have a Cuisinox Elite 30 cm diam. deep skillet with Excalibur® which is rusting and the company will not replace it.

The pan was not abused in any way but the coating on the pan is worn in places and is beginning to rust.

All we wanted was for them to replace it.

My pans warped and luckily the store I bought them from had them replaced under warranty. I bought 4 originally and two went back.I was told it was because I was placing cold water in hot pans, which I've never done. However, the second set of pans warped also. They also do not heat evenly.I blamed my very expensive induction stove for a very long time, until a day came about that I used one of the pans and was getting hot spots just cooking bacon and everything was sticking.I switched to my cheap Canadian Tire brand and funny thing...my bacon cooked evenly and nothing was sticking.I can even cook crepes better in my cheap CT pan and this I know because I have two pans going at the same time!In my opinion...they are a waste of money and I am extremely disappointed.

Lodge Logic L8IC3 Cast Iron Lid, 10.25-inch

Lodge Logic L8IC3 Cast Iron Lid, 10.25-inchIf you own the Lodge Logic 10-1/4-inch skillet, this cover allows for more versatility. It allows for even heating and dutch oven type use. If you prepare something, and just want to keep it warm, or use it outdoors and need protection. It also will seal in nutrients and flavorsbecause of the tight fit, and also the self-basting spikes. I used another lid in a pinch, but it didnt give me the same cooking results as the Lodge lid. The 3-quart chicken fryer, and 5-quart Dutch oven have the same size lids, and you can interchange those lids, but I found I was using them at the same times often, and needed a seperate lid for my skillet. For the price, it just doesnt make sense not to go ahead and have one.

I love the lid that goes with my Lodge Logic 10-1/4-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet. It is obvious that many other people love their Lodge cookware too.Ever since Joseph Lodge started making cast iron cookware in the 1800's --the company goes back to 1896 -people have been loving it and passing it down from one generation to the next.

If we decide to get a 3-quart chicken fryer or 5-quart Dutch oven, this lid will work fine for them too.The self-basting spikes keep the lid fitting snugly.

It came preseasoned and ready to use.We hand wash it and the skillet. We don't submerge it in water for long periods. Instead of draining it, we dry it with a dish towel immediately. The we spray it lightly with Pam(PAM-Original No Stick Cooking Spray, 3/8oz Cans) or rub it with an oil saturated paper towel. When we store it we place a folded paper towel between the lid and the utensil to allow air to circulate.

We try to remember not to shock it and the skillet by placing cold water in the hot pan.

I hope you find this review helpful.

As far as I know, (I have the 8" and 12" equivalents of this lid as well), the 12" lid is the only one that has little flanges (?) that cover the spout portion of the corresponding skillet. So less steam will escape. This lid does not have those flanges, so steam will escape from the spouts. Also, the resulting hole will let dust/flies in.

When I got the lid, the "self-basting spikes" (see picture) were not on the description list, so I had really no idea what they were for.I thought it might have been a manufacturing artifact.Or considering that the pioneers didn't have much space, it had dual functions, like maybe you can use it double up as a grill, or use it to tenderize/hold meat, or play Chinese Checkers. The premise of the self-basting spikes is that as condensation forms on the underside of the lid, the liquid will drip down those spikes evenly on the food.I think it works pretty well the only real problem I have with this lid is that it is soooo heavy. And not clear.Oh well.

The lid was surprisingly easy to season, though.I thought I might have to cook on it to get it properly seasoned, but after 1 session in the oven, it came out better-seasoned looking than my matching griddle.

I looked at it like this:

The 5 Qt. Dutch Oven cover fits the 10 1/4" skillet.

The 10 1/4" cover is $16.99

The 5 Qt. Dutch Oven is $26.99

If I subtract what I'd spend for the 10 1/4"cover, the D.O. Only costs $10.00 more. That's a big hunk of iron for a mere $10.00.

I did the same thing by buying the 7 Qt. D.O. with Spiral Handle because the cover fits my 12" skillet.

Also, I found a brush that works very well to clean the pans and lids Power Tip Dish & Glass Brush

I had forgotten to order a lid for the pan I purchased last Dec.Amazon had the Logic lid that matched my pan.High quality as with the pan itself, and the lid also fits other items in the Logic line.Would recommend Logic products to anyone looking for a high quality cast iron item.

Charcoal Companion CC5099 Cast Iron Sauce Pan with Silicone Head Basting Brush

Charcoal Companion CC5099 Cast Iron Sauce Pan with Silicone Head Basting BrushThis is a small heavy cast iron pot that is perfect for using on the grill to keep sauces warm while food cooks. I chose it over a comparable product from Lodge because the Lodge version seemed to have a small base, which would make it more susceptible to being knocked over when flipping and turning food. This pot is heavy and the base is almost as wide as the top. the handle is short but adequate so it can be picked up and moved but doesn't take up much room. I cook on a Big Green Egg so space is always at a premium. The silicone brush is nice as well but since the brush handle is plastic, I would not leave it on the pan while over the fire.

I recommend seasoning this after you buy it and before using it. Seasoning is easy. Simply coat the entire pan inside and out with crisco, then place the pot upside down on an oven rack and bake for an hour at 350. To catch the crisco that runs off, put another pan or baking sheet lined with foil on the rack below. Of course, you could also place it in your grill coated with crisco and let that heat season it for the same length of time.

Le Creuset makes a small enameled cast iron pot that could probably serve the same purpose but without a handle (and hence even less likely to be knocked over). But it was more expensive and didn't include the bonus brush. So overall, this pot was just right.

It's exactly as stated in info..tiny saucepan.I wanted it for a grease holder or butter melter. It's perfect for that and attractive on the stove.I put a red silicone pad under it and keep it in the center of the stove top.

Just what I needed for heating basting sauces on the grill.A good solid base that won't tip over and the perfect size.Well made.I consider the basting brush a bonus. It would have been worth it without that.

This has been probably the best purchse (next to the grill) that I have made for my patio. The only drawback is that you really need to wait to put your saucepan on after the grill has heated, otherwise the sauce will cook away. Cleaning is easy-I just use a 'dedicated' brush & warm water (NO SOAP!) to scrub the pan & let it drip dry. The brush is extremely easy to clean.

I use this in my smoker to cook my bbq sauses as I cook other items < Nice brush with silicone head that you can use with the heat from the smoker without it melting. I liked it over the others since it is not easy to tilt over.

Range Kleen Stainless Steel 12 Inch Covered Chicken Fryer with Helper HandleThis frying pan does everything one could ask.It cooks evenly, and cleans up easily. It has a substantial feel to it.Nice lid. It looks nice.My only concern is whether the handle will hold up over the long haul, as it flexes a bit when lifted with the pan full.So far, it is great!

Can cook a large amount of food at once..only drawback is it ticks and makes noise when cooking, so I don't think it is a solid stainless.Still good value and is stainless all over.

I went to Range Kleen's website before buying this product to make sure it was induction compatible. This is the exact product description from their website:

"12 inch Stainless Steel Covered Chicken Fryer

Stainless Steel construction offers durability as well as fast, easy clean-up. Oven proof to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Dishwasher safe. Encapsulated bottom distributes heat evenly for maximum cooking results. Compatible with all range types, (electric, halogen, induction, gas, ceramic/glass and solid plate). Clear Tempered Glass Lid. Limited Lifetime Household Warranty."

So I bought the product. It arrived today and I tested its induction compatibility with a magnet. The magnet doesn't stick to it.I looked at the box the skillet came in and it says this:

"Range Kleen cookware is compatible with MOST range types electric, halogen, gas, ceramic/glass smooth top and solid plate."

Now there's no mention of the induction range type. That's very shady of them to say one thing on their website to get you to buy the product, and then say something different when the product arrives.

This is a good quality pan for the price. Nice large size, thick bottom, cleans easy, and no Teflon to worry about scratching off. The only thing I am concerned about is, the handle flexes a lot even when your handling the pan empty. The long handle is poorly made. I think that will be the eventual reason the pan goes in the garbage.

George Foreman SK1403P 16-Inch by 12-Inch SkilLite Searing Skillet with Intelli-Probe Digital Contr

George Foreman SK1403P 16-Inch by 12-Inch SkilLite Searing Skillet with Intelli-Probe Digital Controls ()We had dinner last night courtesy of the George Foreman skillet. This skillet has a lot to offer but it also has some shortcomings.

Pros:

Large nonstick cooking surface

Clean lines and sleek styling makes it look good on the table

Grease channel helps drain the fat away from what you're cooking

Steam vent helps reduce condensation which prevents your sauces from getting watered down

Heats up super fast (I'm talking just a few minutes)

Skillet doubles as a steamer

Sear setting helps brown meat/vegetables quickly

Easy to use controls

Cons:

Serious hot spots (all electric skillets have them) combined with the super fast heating makes for easily burnt food (I quickly placed 9 chicken thighs in the skillet and by the time the last one hit the surface, 4 placed on hot spots were already burned)

Recipe booklet only contains 4 recipes, none using the steam rack

No instructions for how to use the reversible meat/steam rack-How much water do you add for steaming? What temperature is used for steaming? How long should stuff be steamed? How do you use the meat rack? Do you brown the meat first? Again, what temp is recommended?

The skillet is well made except for an aluminum cover over the heating element on the bottom. It serves no purpose that I can see other than making cleaning more difficult. All electric skillets cannot be submerged in water (you can't get water in the probe receptacle) so you have to wash and rinse them carefully but this aluminum cover allows water to seep under it where you can't reach it to dry it off.

Better info and more recipes would do a lot to elevate the Skillite Searing Skillet to the status of indispensible kitchen gadget.

()All this is really is is an electronic frying pan. If you run out of burners on your stove or frequently need to cook in odd spaces without stoves, I can see this being handy. There is a "fat channel" that is supposed to collect run off fat if you are cooking fatty meats but this will be very irritating fast if you're using this to make a sauce or to poach something. You'll need enough extra liquid to fill the channel and then for your dish.

As a "healthy alternative to a traditional frying pan", it's not quite the case.

The lining is non-stick. I'm not going to go on record for or against using nonstick on high heats but you do hear it's not a good idea to use it at high.

The nicest thing is the quick heat response. I wasn't prepared for that and it's a real plus.

It looks fine. Not very sleek but not ugly.

()The skilLite skillet is a nice fairly large lightweight cooking device that cooks evenly, is easy to clean, and comfortably holds 10 pounds of chicken. These are the reasons to buy it. If you are persuaded to purchase the skillet because of its special features you will be disappointed.

The skillet isn't 12" x 16". It is square, about 13.5 to 14 inches, depending on where you measure. It comes with a 3 foot cord, but that includes the controller box at one end. The cord is much too short. I had to rearrange my kitchen to get the large pan within two feet of an electrical outlet. The writing on the controller is such that it is readable if the electrical outlet is in front or to the right of the skillet. Otherwise the writing is upside down.

The Lite in the name is because of a channel along one side of the skillet's bottom. It is suppose to hold the fat draining from the cooking food. It is too small. Maybe there should be a fat channel on all 4 sides.

The temperature control has 5 settings. Those who are better cooks than I would probably want more options for adjusting the heat. The high setting is a 500 degree searing setting which is supposed to lock the juices (fat?) into the meat making it more favourable and tender. When I used the searing option all it did was burn the fats in the bottom of the pan giving the food a rancid taste.

There is a plastic steam vent in the glass top. As far as I can tell it does nothing. The lid does not fit tight and there's plenty of room for steam to escape along the sides. All the vent does is make the top hard to clean.

For some reason the skillet was designed to snap into a plastic base. There are little legs on the bottom of the skillet so the the whole skillet can be removed from the base and brought to the table. The plastic base does get warm when cooking but so do the skillet's legs. To unsnap the skillet from the base, the skillet needs to be tilted, and in doing so there is a risk of spilling it's contents. A very poor design.

If you want a lightweight skillet,(I have fry pans half the size that weigh more), that cooks evenly and has a nice coating on its cooking surface that makes it easy to clean, this skillet is a good choice.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) ()Oh, this is a good product.I want to first mention the `searing' feature. If you want to cook steaks, pork chops or the like, set the temperature to the cooking time, then press the SEAR button. When the light becomes constant, place the meat on for 1.5 minutes and then flip for another 1.5 minutes. After that, it automatically returns to the lower cooking temperature. It's the best and easiest way to cook a choice piece of meat.In fact, you can use the searing method for fish, vegetables and fruit!I've cooked several filet mignons already.

George Foreman grills are noted for removing excess fat.On one side of the frying pan there is a ½" deep fat collector. If you were cooking even a half-chicken, there would be a lot of grease buildup, so you have to use a bulb baster to remove it all frequently.Less fatty meats are easier. But the grease and oils allow you to keep them off to the side for later basting.

You can easily steam vegetables while cooking meat. The reversible meat/steam rack is great for steaming or even deep frying if you really want to fry some vegetables, tempuraor potatoes (anything).I can see where I will use this in the future for stir-fry meals. There is an adjustable steam vent for controlling steam cooking. The heat is controlled from 180 degrees to 500 degrees depending on what you are cooking.

Of course, multiple meat and vegetable dishes are the best use for the "Skillite", but it's usable for singles or families. One word of caution is that you should only use non-metal utensils with the "Skillite".It can scratch the surface. Also, you can only put the lid and the steam rack in the dishwasher. The pan is only hand washable. It's an easy and healthy way to cook with little fuss or mess.

First off----the reason I rated it as 4 stars instead of 5 is because apparently, it's not meant to be used like my Mom's old electric frying pan----in other words, you don't pour in a high level of oil and throw your floured chicken pieces in.I would have loved that nostalgia----but the good news is that this skillet does just about everything else, and it does it well. The non-stick surface, like all things Foreman, is excellent.Use your plastic utensils to keep it perfect----but note that I've accidently/absent-mindedly used metal, and it didn't scratch the durable non-stick Foreman uses. You can indeed cook healthier as food doesn't need to cook in oil to avoid sticking----and that grease channel does in fact do its job. This is becoming a workhorse for me----excellent for frying fish, minute steaks, REAL steaks, burgers, chicken breasts---heats up very quickly and the controls help you keep things at the right cooking temps.Buy some frozen Chinese dumplings from your supermarket.Steam them----then throw them on this surface (with a tiny bit of oil) to get authenic pan-fried dumplings every bit as good as the ones from your favorite Chinese restaurant. Finally, my kitchen counters are already too crowded as I'm a small appliance junkie---and as well, everything from mail to my kid's homework pages are all over my counters.I expected to store this and only bring it out once in a while.Instead, it's been sitting on my counter since the first time I used it----because I'm using it frequently and it looks really good----a quality piece that's beautifully designed and fits in with my black granite countertops and stainless appliances better than competitors' skillets do.Kudos to Mr. George Foreman for putting his name on another fantastic product.

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 10-Inch Everyday Pan with Glass Lid

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 10-Inch Everyday Pan with Glass LidI purchased this pan because of the tempting sale price.I have found that I reach for it again and again. It is a great size for two people, for preparing most everything.Very convenient.Good heating........easy cleanup.

This 10-inch pan is a very nice size for a small family. It's nice not to have to fit yet another long handle into my pan cabinet. The stainless cleans up easily, and is dishwasher safe. The tri-ply technology (aluminum inside, going up the sides) really does seem to help.I've found this pan better than the non-stick coating pans for not sticking, as long as you (1) let food warm to room temperature for 10 to 20 minutes or by warming in water, and (2) pre-heat the pan according to the manufacturor's directions. My only complaint is that the handles get hot very quickly, and they are small enough that pot-holders are awkward.Good for frying and baking a small roast. You'll want a traditional frying pan with long handle to complement this pan.

In response to the review that stated this pan is too small for one that is simply not the case. This pan is actually much deeper and larger than I was expecting! It can easily hold 3 or 4 medium sized chicken breasts with vegetables in the same pan. It's crafted very well, and the lid doesn't jiggle at all.I LOVE this piece, I can see myself using it several times a day!

Great pan to cook a lot of different things in.I am ordering another one to have handy when I'm already using the first.I usually use it to cook morning eggs, but you could make stewed chicken or a nice one pot dinner for 2 or 3, a head of cabbage, stir fry, whatever. It's not small, in my opinion. It's about the diameter of a medium sized frying pan, but about twice as deep, comes in handy.

I've found the secret to no sticking is to oil the bottom (I put in a little olive oil, then wipe with paper towel to spread it around the bottom so that I'm using very little), heat the pan on low to medium low so that it's hot when you add food.My eggs don't stick at all.
