Cuisinart CBO-1000 Oven Central Countertop Oven, Brushed Stainless

Cuisinart CBO-1000 Oven Central Countertop Oven, Brushed StainlessThe CBO-1000 is very handy. I'm no cook, but within a few days of ownership I've made hamburgers, jalapeno-cheese cornbead and shish kebab. It is easy to clean, heats up quickly and doesn't take up much space. I would wholeheartedly recommend it as a countertop cooking appliance that does a lot.

However, I have one complaint and it's significant. The knob on the right that turns the unit on and also serves as a timer seems to have melted so that it no longer engages the stem. I can do all the same functions by sticking a screwdriver into a slot in the stem and twisting, but I definitely have a product that failed on the third round of cooking.

I hope Cuisinart will consider this problem and provide purchasers with knobs that don't succumb to the heat. I am in no way recommending that consumers substitute a screwdriver for the knob. IT MIGHT BE DANGEROUS. Consumers shouldn't have to jury-rig a device that costs $129 and fails in three rounds of cooking.

I'd give this four or maybe five stars if the knob hadn't failed.

I purchased this through Amazon.

---

I called Cuisinart'ss telephone support line and the customer service representative abruptly hung up on me. The serial number on the product is very difficult to read. I was trying to give her the serial number when cut me off. I hope this is not a reflection on the company's products and customer care.

my wife prefers this oven above all of her other cooking devices.

it is easy to use and easy to clean.

Just bought one of these on clearance after reading the reviews.I agree with the other

positive reviewers this thing heats up quickly, cooks evenly (very important to us) and

is easy to clean. For small preparations, there is no need to use the regular oven at all.

I will keep an eye out for the knob issue as one reviewer pointed out, but so far,

this has been great. Will buy another for backup if I can.

Pan Gripper Deep Dish Model

Pan Gripper Deep Dish ModelIf your a cook of homemade pizza, and you have the high sided pans used in making pan pizza, you'll wonder how you ever got along without this useful little item.I got mine from the same company that produces and sells the aluminum 14" pizza pans on Amazon. It has been well worth the purchase price of a few bucks, and is very well made and sturdy. What I like about the design is that the tighter you squeeze on the clamp handle the tighter it grips the pan. This clamping handle will also work on any high sided metal baking pan; I put it to the test by lifting a hot, food filled 10" cast iron skillet from the oven just the other day.It worked with no difficulty what-so-ever, and offered a great leverage advantage on a very heavy pan.I wouldn't use it with glass pans though, as the pressure would obviously crack them. But for cakes, pies, and of course pizza, you can't go wrong having one of these clamp handles available for lifting hot pans from the oven.

Amazon recommended this gripper along with fourteen inch diameter, 2" deep pizza pans.

It will not handle 2" deep pans, in fact most "grippers" on the market will not do 2" deep

pans.

After trying to use this gripper... I put it in the drawer and went back to computer to look for another brand.... I was so dissappointed in this gripper.... It is very clumsy to use. Its not very well made and with no silicone covering the tong end it slips off the pan.. The handle arebent in a way thatmakes it difficult to use... I do not recommend this product...I have since found another product similar with silicone covered handles and rubber ends on the tongs that grip the pan to be lifted.... It was much better... Save your money....

This item had come up on what other customers had bought several times and after reading the reviews and burning myself a few times I decided to order. This is great for repositioning hot pans in the oven as well as lifting them. It really gripsthe pan. It is one of the little things that is really nice to have and ,fortunately, does not take up much space.

Also, a great item to have for the no knead bread baker. This handy little device enables the pan used on the bottom of the oven to be easily pulled out, the water quickly added, and then moved back into the oven before closing the oven door as the author of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking bread instructs to get that delightful crispy crust.

Very happy with MV Trading's sevice. Will do business with this seller again.

UPDATE: The rivets in the handle broke as some other reviewers complained. The fix is inexpensive and quick (less than 5 minutes).

two 6/32 X 1 1/2 bolt and two 6/32 self-locking nuts.

Viola! A better than newinexpensive kitchen gadget that I have come to depend on and use frequently.

We ordered the 14" deep dish pan and the gripper. But taking the pizza out of the oven, the gripper part that held the pan twisted and almost sent the pizza to the floor. It is a great concept just don't use it for the 14" pan, the pizza is just too heavy for it.

Bialetti Taste of Italy Grande Saute Pan, 14-Inch

Bialetti Taste of Italy Grande Saute Pan, 14-InchMy hubby gave me a Bialetti 14" nonstick pan for a gift and I thought it was ridiculously huge and I'd never use it.Thanks to Julia Child, I now know that the secret to good sauteing is to not crowd your food in the pan as it traps moisture and steams your food rather than caramelizing/sauteing it (also, start with dry, not wet, food).I use this pan several times a week.Hubby bought my pan at Costco but they no longer sell it so I bought this one online for a gift. This model is better than mine because the handle is oven-proof.We call this the "Paul Bunyan" pan because of it's size!If you're looking for a unique kitchen gift, even for the experienced cook, I recommend this pan.

This skillet is such a disappointment! I had purchased a Bialetti 14" skillet about 10 years ago and was trying to replace it. This version weighs about half as much. It doesn't have a helper handle, which is greatly missed for a skillet of this size. The original was made in Italy, this one in China. The original skillet had a nice thick bottom that kept food from burning and the skillet from warping. This new one is pathetic -it's warped so bad you can see the bow along the top rim. This one definitely will not last a decade like the first one. I'm hopeful Bialetti will see the error in the changes they've made and bring back the high quality of the past.

Kinetic Kitchen Basics Series 18/10 Stainless Steel 10-Inch open Fry Pan with Non-Stick Interior

Kinetic Kitchen Basics Series 18/10 Stainless Steel 10-Inch open Fry Pan with Non-Stick InteriorThis pan is not quite as heavy as I like, but it works very well in the kitchen. It distributes heat well, the non-stick surface is sturdy (for such coatings--it still wears out), and the rounded inner surface (with no rivets) makes it very convenient to move the food. While many good pans have very sturdy handle attachments using rivets, the rivets make the food catch or stick--this pan avoids this problem.

This frying pan replaced my old, chipped, rusting out(embarassed to say that, but you don't know me, anyway)and it even frys food but mostly it looks great. What can you say about a frying pan? I wouldn't have even given this reponse if I hadn't had a few glasses of wine. Seriously, it is a quality pan without paying a fortune. I just now found out Ultrex cookware was recalled years ago because it is dangerous. The coating can separate from the pan and be forcefully propelled from the pan.I had no idea until now.I bought two sets from HSN and they never notified the customers that the product was dangerous. The Ultrex company went out of business as soon as they realized the product was unsafe so that they would not have to cover the lifetime warranty. As usual, HSN claims no responsibility for endangering lives.Furthermore, it is illegal to resell a recalled product. Please do not buy or use this product.

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, PestoI had been looking for a panini grill and press for a long time and was having a very hard time deciding between an expensive model or a cheap one.The reasoning being that the expensive models would probably last forever, as my Le Creuset dutch oven has.I thought that the cheap ones, if they failed, wouldn't be such a loss.

I read a lot of reviews and looked at different models at the store and ultimately decided on this model for a few reasons.First, it seemed solid and heavy.Second, it came in a nice color.Third, it was a good price compromise between the ultra expensive and the cheap.

Having now used it for a month and cooked with it more than 15 times I can say that it turned out not to be precisely what I was looking for.It has several issues that would have been hard for me to know from other reviews.First, and probably most annoying, the pan comes almost completely unseasoned.Seasoning cast Iron is a little bit time consuming and the process took the better part of two evenings before things cooked in the pan would release at all.

Second, the cast iron is very, very rough.I have several other cast iron pans and this is the first one I had that I couldn't effectively clean because of the rough surface. The pan tore several sponges to pieces (even the scrubbing side) and even the plastic scraper that I bought for it (also from Mario Batali and made specifically for this pan) was basically shredded after just 15 cleanings. The rough surface also makes it hard to oil it with a paper towel or a piece of cloth since it just shreds it.Your hand works fine, but I don't really like to cover my hand in oil after I just finished cleaning the pan in the sink.

Third, the pan has discolored quite a bit since I bought it.It started out a nice pale almost mint green but is now a yellow green color similar to a string bean. The top discolored first, followed by the bottom.I am not sure if this is because I have a gas range and not an electric model, but the change is distinctive.Others have spoken about cracks developing in the glaze, but there has been none of that so far.The discoloration is also in the glaze and soap and water make no difference (although you have to use soap very carefully to avoid unseasoning the cast iron).

Finally, the pan is really hard to clean. This is the result of several factors.First, although the cooking surface is a good size, when you add the handles, there is almost no way to get the pan in the sink and level. This makes cleaning it without sloshing greasy water out of the sink a bit difficult.Second, the roughness of the cast iron and the non-seasoned way it shows up make the first few cleanings really bad.

However, to spite all of these things, the pan is just and pan and serves it's purpose well.It may be a bit of a pain to deal with, but my wife and I are enjoying the paninis we've made and grilling stuff inside.I do wonder if I had spent $40 less would another pan have been the same or better and I definitely wonder if I had spent $60 more if the Le Creuset model would have any of these problems.I don't regret buying it, but if i had it to do again I would definitely at least get the darkest color available.

I really love this whole line.I made Cuban Sandwiches with mine and was really pleased with how they turnes out.I am also big on the aesthetic look of my cookware along with functionality, and this line offers both aspects at an incredibly reasonable price.

Buy Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto Now

I bought this for a weekend away with friends and was very disappointed with the function of this beautiful product. First, it is dangerous. I found that the front loop touched the plastic knob on my cooktop and melted it a bit. I had to keep reminding myself that the knob on top was burning hot. It is natural to want to grab the handle or the top while making a panini. DON'T DO IT. I let the pan heat on medium for ten minutes and the sandwiches were beautiful on the bottom but only lightly browned on top so that I had to flip them. Needless to say, some of the interior parts of the layered sandwich fell out onto the grill and stuck like mad-very difficult to clean later. The final toasted panini still had to go into the microwave for a few seconds to melt the thinly sliced gruyere cheese so that I could serve it to my waiting friends. This was a stressful lunch as I had to go through this process three times to make sandwiches for six. I would prefer a press which does both sides of the sandwich at the same time. I thought this would and it didn't.

Read Best Reviews of Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto Here

I've posted this review on several differently colored panini presses...though mine is red. I'm THAT passionate about the low quality of this product. It angers me every time I see it in my closet (won't fit in my cabinets). This press:

1.) Doesn't heat both sides equally

2.) Adheres to bread and fish like white on rice...even with oil/butter/nonstick spray

3.) has a cool colored finish that will chip and look hideous in no time.

Seriously, take my word, this is an utter disaster of a product. Either reevaluate whether you need a press, or try another line. If I could turn back time, I'd try Lodge (and they have new colors now to), All Clad, or one of the cheaper cheap pans. This is about the quality of one of those ones priced at $30 or $40. If you're going to lay out $90, go the extra mile and buy something made with quality in mind such as Le Creuset or All Clad or Lodge!

Want Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press, Pesto Discount?

I really wanted the Le Creuset but I went with this press because I have a ceramic cooktop. It works OK, I guess. I have had some issues with bread sticking to the inside, and have ruined a few sandwiches. You'd be wise to stick with actual paninis or a thickly sliced bread. As for clean up, I finally discovered that my wire outdoor grill brush works really well for quickly and easily cleaning off baked on cheese, etc. after a soak in hot soapy water. I do wish that the lid got hotter though -you really do have to flip your sandwiches to get them browned on both sides. Wish I could wax more enthusiastic about this pan....

Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 9-Inch Frittata and Omelette Skillet Duo Set

Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 9-Inch Frittata and Omelette Skillet Duo Set ()I don't know why, but I was fascinated by the idea of the Circulon Frittata Pan and simply had to have it.It's not like a frittata pan is a kitchen essential.I've lived my whole life without experiencing the joys of a specialized pan for eggs. But as an American consumer, I love unnecessary gadgets as much as the next person.I don't mean to downgrade this Circulon pan because, in at least one major way, it exceeded my expectations. As the two halves of the pan are detachable, they can be used independently as 9" skillets. So even if you aren't whipping up the perfect omelet, you can still get daily use from this set.In truth, I'll probably use the two parts separately more often than I use them as they were intended.

Pros:

Detachable pans (as previously mentioned)

Sturdy Construction

Quality Non-Stick Surface

Oven safe to 400 degrees

Cons:

User error still applies.Okay, this might not be the pan's fault. In truth, though, I'd have hoped to make the flipping motion more seamless. You can still make quite a mess if you're not at the top of your cooking game.As I've practiced with various dishes, I've definitely seen an improvement in my performance.Just realize that you can still make a mess (and not a lovely showcase of an egg dish) if you aren't a skilled flipper technician.

Still, though, if you've got to have a frittata pan--this seems to fulfill all the major requirements. So as a practical device that does exactly what it should, it's a solid recommendation.KGHarris, 1/13.

()I've always liked egg dishes, so I was pleased to be able to order this interesting stove top concept. I find it to be a bit difficult to use, easy to clean, but with some quality issues.

Design:

A frittata is classically made by beginning the cooking on the stove, then transferring the pan to the oven to cook completely. This set uses a bottom and top pan (essentially two pans) which interlock at one end. The idea is to start the cooking, attach the second pan via a special locking handle on the side opposite the holding handle, and flip, causing the frittata to cook without the oven. The pans have a sturdy handle that does a good job of keeping cool, and a non-stick coating that is rated for metal utensils (one does not have to use plastic). It did not seem to have any trouble with nonstick and metal utensils. This is not really surprising, since the top pan has to touch the bottom pan; so having a "platic required" coating would not have worked.

Recipe:

It took a lot of tries to get a decent frittata out (they tended to be underdone due to not enough care with step 7 below). There is only a tiny print recipe included, so I'll repeat what worked for me here.

1. Assemble the vegetables and anything else you want to sauté. I also like to use a little cheese.

2. Beat 5 eggs or so together.

3. Heat both pans on medium heat, using two burners on the stove.

4. Place butter or other oil/grease in the deeper pan. This will be used for cooking the vegetables.

5. Place a small amount of butter or oil in the second pan.

6. Cook the vegetables until they are tender. You can season them at this point, or later.

7. Once the vegetables are cooked, pour in about 3/4 of the eggs.

8. As the eggs get more cooked, uses a spatula to raise the edges of the eggs to allow uncooked eggs to go underneath. This step is critical, or the dish won't get cooked through. It usually takes about 4 minutes for this step.

9. Once the eggs are pretty well cooked (just a little runny on top), add the cheese. Then pour the remainder of the eggs over the cheese and blend it together (so the cheese doesn't burn when flipped).

10. Remove the shallower pan from its burner, fit it into the interlocking end of the bottom pan, and carefully but rapidly flip it over. Shake the pan a bit after flipping to ensure everything settles. It will get a bit of egg out of the sides of the pan, but not much. I found it less messy to simply hold both handles together, rather than trying to flip with a hand on either side of the combined pans.

11. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes. At this point everything should be ready to go!

Construction:

While the pans seem sturdy, one of the two sets I received had a loose handle on the side that interlocks the two pans together. It is supposed to be permanently fixed, so I can't just screw it in. Hopefully it will work, but having one out of two with a problem like this causes me to reduce the score to 4 stars.

Cleaning:

Very simple. The nonstick really works.

Summary:

A bit messy, but it works once you get the hang of it. Hopefully my second set was a rare problem in construction. Recommended.

Buy Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 9-Inch Frittata and Omelette Skillet Duo Set Now

()This is marketed as a Frittata Set, so I'll address that first.A regular frittata starts in a skillet and finishes in the oven. It's sort of a thick, puffy baked omelet. This set allows you to make a frittata completely on the stovetop: you cook the eggs and filling in the larger skillet, then lock the other (preheated) skillet on top and flip the whole thing, to allow the frittata to finish cooking stovetop.I don't really see the point in this. For one thing, how often do people make frittatas? As a Mom, I regularly cook weekend breakfast for a passel of teenaged boys, and I make a frittata maybe once a year.Secondly, I'm not sure that flipping it stovetop is any easier than baking it in the oven.So this pitch is gimmicky to me.(Somewhat of note:Some reviewers state that they used the flipping interlocking pans to make omelets.I guess it's splitting hairs, but from my perspective, omelets by definition are folded over their ingredients, frittatas are open faced -and so if you're flipping your mixture of eggs and filling it's more a frittata.Potato-Potahto.)

But as skillets, this set is very nice. It's 2 nonstick Circulon skillets (one slightly larger).I had Circulon when it first came out, about 20 years ago, and it has evolved this surface is much better.(The grooves are much smaller.)These pans are a handy size for smaller kitchen needs (you could do an omelet in one).I use them for things like sauteeing tomatoes for bruschetta, cooking up shrimp for pasta and shrimpthey're great for those 'smaller burner' jobs that you need to do while using the big burners for the main course. They're also good for grilled cheese, fried eggs, etc. They have an even heat conductivity and they're easy to clean.I like the helper handles and I love that they are safe for metal utensils. They're very handy pans.

PROS:

+ 2 pans

+ Handy size for small to medium jobs

+ Non stick

+ Easy clean

+ Helper handles

+ Safe for metal utensils

+ If you feel it's important, you can in fact interlock them and flip eggs over to cook a frittata stovetop

CONS:

Metal parts of the handles get hot

How often do you make a frittata anyway?

BOTTOM LINE:Frittata or not, these are nice pans to have at hand.

()Flipping is the hardest part of these pans but follow the included instructions and with practice they work great.Heat the smaller pan but cook in the larger pan. When it is time to flip make sure the smaller pan fits tightly in the groove of the larger pan. Then flip over the sink, not the stove!Beautiful!

The pans themselves are fantastic non-stick pans. They clean up with nothing more than a paper towel.Even if I'm not cooking anything that needs to be flipped I have two perfect frying pans. They are well made and although it is early to judge, they look like they will give years of service. The instructions say they are oven safe to 400 degrees but I'm a little nervous about risking them.Anyway, definitely worth the money.

()First, I don't consider myself a cook. I sometimes do cheese omelets, with some milk and mozzarella shredded cheese. These skillets helped me made the best and tastiest omelets so far, and I'm glad I can provide a non-cereal nutritious breakfast for the kids. The skillets seem to be of good quality, although the bottom of one of them got scratched after a few uses. The handles are very comfortable. The set is very flexible to various cooking needs.

Two notes of caution: Do not turn the 2 skillets over unless you are sure the content is solid or it might leak especially if you hold the two handles too tight. This all takes some training: although the 2 skillets fit one into the other, the enclosure is not hermetical. Second, as the enclosed documentation mentions, do not try to wash these in the dishwasher, as they might get discolored.

Anolon Advanced Bronze Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Round Griddle

Anolon Advanced Bronze Hard Anodized Nonstick 12-Inch Round GriddleThis review is for the 12" ANOLON ADVANCED BRONZE GRIDDLE PAN (without grill marks). I own several other Anolon Bronze pans and have used them over 5 months. The color is very appealing, although I find the "bronze" to be more akin to dark tan.

This pan looked perfect for my needs; a large, flat pan that utilizes all 12" of the non-stick surface. I purchased two of them to serve my direct purpose cooking large batches of pancakes and fritters.

This ANOLON ADVANCED BRONZE pan is medium-heavy weight, with a comfortable soft grip, cool touch, riveted handle. The cooking surface is deep brown-black in color and is non-stick. The exterior color is not very visible on this pan due to the low, 1/2" height profile, and although listed as Anolon BRONZE, only the handle is colored; the sides and bottom of the pan are a uniform dark gray.

PROS:

*Can utilize all 12" of pan surface, thus increasing "production".

*These pans clean up very easily, with the exception of one pan that has residual grease adhering to the exterior (eldest son used it not sure if the cooking temperature was too high).

*Eye appealing; bronze color is nice, but only visible on handle.

*Comfortable easy grip, cool touch handle.

*Bought it on sale for $50 from another vendor.

CONS:

*Manufacturer recommends only medium temps (not high) be used for cooking.

*Due the weight of the handle, the pan does not sit flat on electric stove burner, subsequently, any shortening/butter/oil used during cooking "pools" at side closest to handle. This results in uneven frying of foods. I resort to tedious tilting of the pan during cooking to assure shortening reaches all of the food.

*Difficulty regulating cooking temperature during initial use. (Note: I pre-warm my pans on LOW for several minutes to evenly disperse heat, then adjust to medium to frying.) On medium heat, the pan seems either too cool to fry crisply, or too hot, causing burned edges of fritters/pancakes. (This could, in part be due to the uneven dispersion of shortening in pan, or simply my need for an extended product "adjustment/acclimation" period.)

*Cooking surface shows minor scratches with consistent use of silicone spatula and only rare use of nylon or metal (an expected finding since non-stick pans are not impervious).

All in all, I DO LIKE these griddle pans with one MAJOR caveat the heavy handle "tilt", causing shortening to "pool" at one side. At a price point of $50-$80 per pan, I wouldn't expect such a design flaw. However, if you cook solely without use of shortenings, then this pan may be the perfect one for you.

If BUDGET CONSCIOUS, you may want to consider the ANOLON ADVANCED black griddle pan Anolon Advanced 12-Inch Open Round Griddle; cost $25-50 with the difference being the color of the handle and perhaps a basic black colored non-stick interior.

I purchased this item, because of the super value and to add to the basic 10 piece starter set I already own. These pots and pans are a nice weight and very non-stick inside and out, which makes for super easy clean up.The color is complimentary to sophisticated and goes well with most kitchen decors. I would certainly purchase this product line again in the future.

Breville XX800GRXL Factory-Reconditioned Die-Cast Indoor Barbeque and Grill, Stainless

Breville XX800GRXL Factory-Reconditioned Die-Cast Indoor Barbeque and Grill, StainlessThis is the 2nd generation model, I have the 1st at home and use it CONSTANTLY!I use it to grill meat (any kind), as a panini press (from fancy Cubanos to 5-minute grilled cheese for my four-year-old), as a quesadilla maker, and recently discovered its true hidden talent...bacon.Cooks it faster, crisper and leaner than any fry pan.The only negative is cleanup; the cooking surfaces aren't removable so you have to wash and rinse them without getting too much water near the electrical components on the bottom of the grill.

NOT just a fancy Foreman.I had one of those and it doesn't compare.First and foremost the biggest difference is the floating hinge.Try grilling something thick on a Foreman and it'll cook the sides unevenly since it can't close around the whole steak. Also this gets much hotter (1500 watts). And finally the nonstick surface on this is very good in its durability (no nicks or marks after 3 years of heavy use) and its nonstick-edness.If you grill a sandwich with cheese and the cheese melts out the side, it will actually stay with the sandwich rather than stick to the grill!

Looks like this one is reconditioned and I bought mine new so I can't speak to the condition. But if mine broke today I'd drop the $180 for a new one in a heartbeat.

I've tried several similar grills and in my opinion, this grill is very good but not perfect.

Pros:

1. Large surface area. You can cook a lot of food on this grill. This is also a con as I explain below.

2. This grill gets hot enough to sear meats. Some other grills (including George's) do not get hot enough to do this.

3. Non removable grill plates. This is both a pro and a con. Because they can't be removed, the plates also can't accidentally fall off. Other Breville grills have this problem.

4. Sturdy, quality build.

Cons:

1. It's a big grill. When I raise the top, it hits the bottom of my cabinets. Also, it takes up a lot of surface on the counter making it cumbersome to store and to cook with. This grill takes up a lot of space.

2. Non removable grill plates. This makes the plates more difficult to clean than removable ones. This also makes them impossible to replace.

3. Timer does not turn the grill off.

Bottom Line:

I believe that the major deciding factor on whether to buy this or not is the size of the grill. If you have the space, this grill will suit you fine. It cooks everything from from sandwiches to steaks beautifully. But if you have a small kitchen with limited counter space and storage area, you might want to consider something else.

Being greatly disappointed by the Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler, I searched for a quality replacement and found the Breville 800GRXL Die-Cast Indoor Barbeque and Grill. The Griddler and Breville 800GRXL can prepare the same foods, but are design differently.

The 1500 watt Breville 800GRXL heats up quickly and evenly. The griddle plate on the bottom and a grill/Panini plate on top are not removable. The grill/Panini plate swivels to accommodate thicker food, and when laid out flat angles to drain juices into the pull out dishwasher safe drip tray. The bottom plate has an adjustable tilt for draining as well. The temperature can be adjusted from 350 to 450 degrees, plus a convenient timer is included.

The stainless steel Breville 800GRXL is a bulky kitchen appliance compared to the Griddler.Measuring 14.5 x 19.25 inches, the 800GRXL takes up a lot of counter space. When opening the grill to lay flat, the bottom of our upper cabinets are in the way of doing so.I either try to use the grill on the bar area or pull it partway off the counter top and balance it while opening. The majority of our lower cabinets have a 10 inch wide opening, making storage an issue as well.We either lug the Breville 800GRXL to the pantry or leave it resting on the countertop. The Griddler by comparison weighs less and is compact, eliminating the problems related to laying flat.

As much as the Breville 800GRXL's size is a problem, it is an asset as well.I can easily make 6 Paninis at once, make pancakes while grilling ham or bacon, or grill burgers while toasting the buns and grilling onions. At first I was concerned with having fixed plates, swapping plates on the Griddler seemed like an advantage. However the larger cooking surface area and versatility of the fixed plates are far more advantageous when cooking.Removable plates also seemed to be a clear advantage for clean up, however the Breville 800GRXL typically requires a quick wipe down to clean pushing the debris into the drip tray.Additionally the temperature of the plates is far more consistent than the Griddler.

Considering the price of the Griddler, the Breville 800GRXL costs three times as much.Is it fair to compare the two appliances?I think it is, as they both attempt to provide the capabilities. The Griddler is more economical choice when purchasing, however in my case the Griddler didn't perform well and only lasted a little over year.Considering I've been using the Breville 800GRXL regularly since Dec 2006, the cost of use is comparable at this point, and undoubtedly will become the better economic choice.Unlike the Griddler, the Breville 800GRXL has been performed well and lasted much longer.I would highly recommend paying the extra and purchasing the Breville 800GRXL over the Griddler.

PROS:

Long lasting

Even temperature

Easy to clean

Versatile kitchen appliance

Stainless-steel body

CONS:

Heavy and bulky

The size doesn't work well with our kitchen cabinets

First, the advertisement says it has a 'nonstick aluminum cooking surface'.The instruction manual says it's a coating called quantanium.I purchased it for the (assumed less toxic) aluminum but it appears to be some kind of coating. It does clean unusually easily however.

The timer sounds a bell but doesn't shut off power. All that metal gets fairly hot. Can't move it as easily after use as my Hamilton Beach grill. The drip tray is of excellent quality but is 14 " long and so could be easier to handle and clean.

It does work properly. It doeshave extra features like the variable temp and the center pivoted top plate.

I bought this to replace a big old Foreman grill that was losing its antistick coating. This is not as big as that really big Foreman grill (which could cook eight burgers). This can cook six burgers. But the difference is in the juiciness!

The Breville gets much hotter, sears better, cooks quicker and produces much tastier burgers.Steaks, too.

Cleanup is as easy as the Foreman but there are more drips over the back edge to clean off the table.

Lost one star for capacity and drips.

Scanpan CTX Sauté Pan with Lid

Scanpan CTX 11-Inch Covered Saute PanBought this pan for my girlfriend for Christmas to replace an older Calphalon that was starting to chip.We use this pan almost daily and after 6 months, there are zero signs of wear.We do take care of it by not putting in dishwasher, not using metal utensils, letting the pan cool completely before washing, etc.I'm sure that metal utensils would be fine, but I don't see the point in risking it if you don't have to.

I wish these weren't so expensive, because I want a whole set now!I see this pan lasting many, many years so I'll probably get that whole set eventually, adding a new pan a year.

This is the nicest pan I've ever owned, hands down. I like to cook anyway, that's why I was moved to spend $300 on a single pan. But this pan makes me like to cook even more. It's cooks so evenly, it's like the vegetables brown themselves, perfectly, without any effort or input from me; I barely have to watch the pan. And it's big enough that I can cook a whole one-dish meal in it (which was my goal when I purchased it). I plan meals around being able to use this pan.

This pan is excellent. I have cooked several items in the pan and it does not stick. The food cooks evenly and food cleans very easily from the pan. I am sure that I will be purchasing more of this product. I love the fact that it can be used on stove top or in the oven.

I have had this pan for 6 months & use it nearly everyday.I chose it to get away from traditional non-stick pans & have owned the likes of calphalon, kitchen aid, le crueset brand (to name a few) non-stick pans.I treatall my non-stick pans including the Scan Pan the same:I never use metal utensils, put them in the dishwasher, or scald them.I use oil/butter to be certain not to scald the pan.If you are not willing to treat you pan this way, then non-stick is simply not the choice for you.

I love the Scan Pan--the surface is exceptional & heats evenly on the stove top or in the oven.I like it so much I could an 8 inch for eggs.

I've only used this pan a few times, but I noticed the difference immediately.

Unfortunately, I'm cooking on a glass-top electric but I noticed right away

that the pan had no hot-spots.It remains to be seen how long the non-stick

surface will perform and if the pan will warp.Stay tuned, but initially, I'm

really impressed.

Lodge Seasoned Finish 10-1/2-Inch Cast Iron Round Griddle

Lodge Seasoned Finish 10-1/2-Inch Cast Iron Round GriddleI am a great fan of cast iron cookware and have quite a few pieces. The 10-1/2 in. round griddle is my first by Lodge however, I just happened to see it on sale and bought it.Although I think the overall quality is good, I soon realized the handle was much too short.I do not have large hands (I'm 5'8" and 145 lbs. male) yet handling the pan is really awkward especially if the handle or my hand is wet (forget soapy). In fact I have a couple of 10-1/2 in. skillets (not Lodge nor both the same brand) that even though they are heavier they are much easier to handle because they weren't so stingy with the amount of material used for the handle.

I bought this griddle barely three weeks ago.I didn't really need it, but I thought the price at the time was a bargain ($9.99), and I needed something else around $10 to avoid the dreaded S/H charge.

I have been using cast iron for a long time and still have my firstcast iron skillet that has seen it's share of trials and tribulations over a 20 year period, including bouts in the dishwasher from a roommate who was clueless about any type of cookware. All I had to do was reseason it and it was restored.

I like cast iron because it gets really hot and retains heat, and lasts forever. This griddle is no exception.I already have a pizza stone, but I had a recipe that featured baking the pizza in cast iron cookware, and I wanted to try it so I made it on the griddle. The results were spectacular. The crust browned evenly on the bottom and was nice and crispy, and I cut it and served right from the griddle. The griddle is also perfect for making biscuits.Preheat the pan in the oven for about 10 minutes, then place the biscuits on it and bake as usual.Baking the biscuits on the preheated griddle, makes the bottoms crispy.

I have also used the griddle for grilled cheese, panini's (using the grill press) and quesadilla's.All, in all, I think this is a great piece of cookware that makes a nice addition to my collection of cast iron.I own several pieces of Lodge cookware and have never had any problems like cracking, warping, or twisting.Someone mentioned in an earlier review that the griddle was starting to "discolor" after only 3 uses. It's supposed to "discolor."It goes from its orignial factory finish gray, to hues of brown and eventually coal black with repeated use.

The more you use cast iron, the better it gets.If you use it daily, it will turn black quicker than if you use it on occasion.I still have pieces that I have had in excess of 5 years that are still not black.Since I only use those pieces occasionally, that's to be expected.

I first saw this griddle at a friend's house. We used it to make crepes, and the results were absolutely perfect. Subsequently I've been using mine to grill panini, brown chicken breasts until golden, slowly sizzle perfect salmon filets, and turn out beautifully done steaks and chops. It even works well in the oven to finish cooking a beef or pork tenderloin. Note, I am a serious cast-iron cookware devotee, and I like utensils and tools that are multi-taskers. This griddle fits that bill and stays busy on my stove. Perfect for one person or a couple.

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Omelette Pan

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-Inch Omelette PanThis pan is amazing. It passed our hash brown test. My other skillets, no matter how hard I tried and no matter what I did, they would ALWAYS stick. Even to my stainless steel skillets!!

Not with this wonderful skillet!! I sprayed some Extra Virgin Olive Oil with my Misto Oil Sprayer, that I also got from Amazon, and not ONE bit of the hash browns stuck to this skillet. They browned and came out amazing!! Then I made gooey, cheesy scrambled eggs!! Again, NO STICKING!! And clean up is a snap-wait until the pan cools and put in the sink with hot soapy water, very lightly wash, rinse, dry and your done!!

I love this Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick cookware!!!! I got all the matching pieces to the original 10pc set I got from Amazon and threw my other pans away!! I even went to the Calphalon site to order lids for the omlette pans-too bad they do not come with the set-I can always use the lids with the omlette pans. They do not make a lid for the stir fry pan though.

If you buy this cookware, you will NOT be sorry!! Just hand wash as they state, DO NOT PUT IN THE DISHWASHER, use nylon cooking utensils and get the Misto Oil Sprayer, and you'll be a happy cooker!! NO MORE stuck food!!!

I just cannot rave enough about this cookware!!!! I'm having fun in the kitchen again!!!!

I love this pan.It is one of my favorite cookware pieces.Whenever I need a large pan, this is it.It's nice and heavy, heats quickly and cooks evenly. It don't have any problems with food sticking to it so cleanup is easy. The lid is made of glass, so I can see how my food is cooking and I can put the whole thing in the oven when I need to.

Large and durable, I've had this pan for years and cooking surface is still in great condition.

This is pass #2 with the non-stick versions of Calphalon cookware that I expected would last longer than 7 years -but this is our fault, not the manufacturers. We are proud owners of a full set of Calphalon professional cookware and it cooks as well today as it did 15 years ago when we first got it (albeit with some cosmetic degradation...just like me).I think we were lulled to sleep by the seeming indestructable nature of the hard anodized stuff and took liberties with the non-stick version that we weren't entitled to (kind of like that friend of the opposite sex that you constantly get drunk with and make innuendos...eventually, you get slapped. The non-stick pans finally decided to stop pretending our "smooth surface" double entendres were cute.)

These cook evenly and clean easily, but you MUST:

heat the pans with medium heat

do the butter test at least once so you know the right interaction between pan and your stove

never use anything but wooden, silicone or plastic utensils in the pan (no you CAN'T be careful with that metal fork!)

They are easier to use than the pro stuff (my wife won't even touch the hard anodized versions any more...or at least she won't clean them, if we're being honest) but you have to take care of them.

This nonstick frying pan is awesome. If you buy it, read the directions because there were things I didn't know about caring for this pan. Don't put it in the dishwasher. All you do is wash in with a soft sponge and rise and dry it. It is an excellent pan and I highly recommend it.

Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir Fry

Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir FryI bought this wok to use it on the inner rings of my flat surface stove so than the range hood can suck all the smoke while i am cooking. The size is perfect. The bottom size is 6", which fits the ring perfectly. The top size is perfect too, though i can use a 12" one too. The wok is solid and heavy and can hold up heat. I have used very cheap cast iron pots and cabon steel pots. They are either too heavy or too light. This one is great.

The only thing i dont like is that it seems to have a coating. After we used it the first time, the coating was burned off. I guess it is the seasoning coating. Hope it is harmless.

I only used it for one month. I coat it with oil before and after each use, it still gets sticky after one month. The dark "natural seasoning"comes off as small pieces, then mixed with my food. After their "natural seasoning" comes off, the pan became very sticky like a stainless pan, and it's not stainless, it's rusty. I'd go back to Starfrit's cast iron pan, even though it costs little more.

Buy Joyce Chen 23-0003, 11.5 inch Lightweight Cast Iron Stir Fry Now

This wok stays cute on my oven top, suitable for 2-3 person. It is light weight, easy to clean and maintain. It heats up quickly and can get very hot. The vegetable it cooked looks fresh and with good taste. With meat, it did stick a little bit at the beginning, but I think for cast iron it takes time, the more you use it, the less it sticks. For those who have 4-5 people to serve, I would suggest you to try that 14" one. Before buying this one, I was struggling between a carbon steel and light cast iron, finally I decided on cast iron, because a friend shared that she had both of them, both get heat quickly and not stick, but carbon steel more easily gets the vegetable steamed, with more water come out, while cast iron makes food come out dry and still taste juicy.

I recently purchased an induction burner (Max Burton 6200 1800W) which I love, but the problem I ran into was finding a cooking vessel that could take advantage of its heating potential. After some experimentation with various pots and pans, I found that the ones made of carbon steel and cast iron work the best....by far.

I was really happy to find a cast iron wok that didn't weight 75 lbs and was the perfect design (wide bottom). I got it yesterday and was blown away by two things; how light it was and how hot you can get this wok. I used a thermal gun on it and got readings above 800 degrees. Even my carbon steel wok didn't get that hot.

This wok comes pre-seasoned, looks to be well constructed, is priced right and definitely does what a wok is supposed to do...."get rocket hot". If you are looking for a good gift set for that vegetarian cook in your life, get this wok and a good induction burner (they aren't expensive). They'll love you forever.

Cuisinox Electra Induction 11 Inch Non-stick Frypan

Cuisinox Electra Induction 11 Inch Non-stick FrypanI bought two of these pans (11" and 8") for my daughter to use with her new induction cooktop as she wanted a non-stick frypan in addition to the other new induction pans she purchased. These pans take forever to heat up and even then, don't heat well. She was cooking something in this pan on the burner next to another induction fry-pan (different brand, not non-stick), and this one was just starting to get warm, when the items were already finished cooking in the other pan!!!This does not work and I certainly don't recommend it!!I hope I can return them, although we're beyond the timeframe because it was a gift.

This is a well-made pan, but the claim that it's useable for induction cooking is a stretch. The induction plate on the bottom is very thin and it transfers heat poorly. Yes it "works" for frying a couple of eggs, but if you need lots of heat, forget it.

Pyrex 10-Piece Cookware Set

Pyrex 10-Piece Cookware Set, Stainless Steel ()I was pleasantly surprised by this set. While it's not super heavy stainless, it's definitely not flimsy either. The walls of the pans are substantial and every pan in the set has a weighted bottom.Pyrex has incorporated some innovative features in this set that make it stand out.Overall, I think it's a great set, especially for the price. The combination of pans in this set make it a perfect starter or replacement set.

Positives

* The handles are silicone covered making them easier to grip and less likely to burn the cook.Even the 6 qt pan has silicone grips on the bottom side of the handles.

* The unique feature that allows the lids to be perched on the pans prevents the frustrating drip of water all over the stove and reduces the risk of burns from steam.

* All of the pans have pour spouts, making it easier to drain or pour the contents.

* Even with the pour spouts, the lids can adequately seal the pans when positioned correctly.

* The pans and lids are a good weight, not flimsy and thin.

* All pans have a weighted bottom layer allowing them to heat evenly and prevent hot spots and warping.

* The lid handles make it easy to grip and are not likely to burn cooks or slip from hands.

* The silicone handle covers provide a non-slip spoon rest for frequently stirred dishes.

* Measurements inside every pan.

* Clear size information and care instructions on the bottom of each pan.

* Sizes and measurements are both standard and metric.

Negatives

* Only oven safe to 350 degrees, but the pans in this set are not really the type of pans that most people would use in a hotter oven anyway.

* The great handles on the lids also mean they can't be easily stacked for storage as some lids can.The set might take up more cabinet space than some because of them.

* The skillets are non-stick.Although they work beautifully now, it's been my experience that no non-stick pans remain so for more than two or three years.

Followup after more use

The innovative feature that allows you to hang the lid on the pans is actually more trouble than the dripping condensation issue of normal lids.

If your pot contains much food, the lid will touch or dip into the food when hung on the pot wall and create more of a mess than condensation would have.

The lids handles are easy grip and not likely to slip out of your hands, but for all practical purposes, the hanging feature will rarely be used.

We bought the nonstick 10-piece set about a week ago (from a brick & mortar retailer), and thought they were wonderful, especially the measurement markings and the fact that they can go in the dishwasher as well as the oven. However, we recently noticed that around the area where the lid touches the pots, bits of the non-stick coating had been scratched off. Examining the lid revealed a seam in the metal that scrapes off the nonstick coating when you spin the lid while the lid is on the pot or pan. I called Pyrex and they said that there is nothing to be concerned about, as the area where the nonstick coating had been scratched off will not affect cooking performance. I then brought up the fact that bits of coating will end up in our food, and their reply was that the coating is non-toxic. Since I do not want to take that chance, I will be returning the set.

()This is a nice stainless steel set which more that the usual finishing touches. Sure they feel good, cook evenly, and have a comfortable handle... but so do a lot of other pots and pans. What sets these apart are all the thoughtful touches that Pyrex adds.

My favorite is the measurement markings, no more filling up a big stock pot 2 cups at a time with a measuring cup... all the units are printed/etched (probably laser etched, I didn't notice any texture and it doesn't quite look like ink) right on the inside. Also pretty nice is the small lip on each pot and pan, which aids in pouring and when used with the lid, you can stain off any liquid. The other feature that's cool, but I don't think I'll get as much use out of since I have the counter space is that each lid can be held up by the pot itself (see the stock pot in the picture), but it could be a huge deal for the small kitchen.

PROS:

+ Marked measuring units in all the pots (Hmmm... My measuring bowls are made by Pyrex too)

+ Self straining lid design

+ Self holding lid feature

+ Quality heft

+ Super effective non-stick coating

+ Dishwasher safe

+ Oven safe

+ Comfortable/Cool handles

+ Stylish design

CONS:

If the lid isn't centered it may let out a little more steam than desired through the pour lips (Not much though)

The pots when tapped sound a little thin, but obviously are not (I'm sure this is just me)

On the shallower pots with the lid in the self holding position it could touch/go into the food (Not a serious problem)

Oven temperature limited to 350 degrees (Probably because of the handles, anything over that and your probably in an oven made dish anyways)

The cons don't really justify any dings to my 5 star rating, since they are just reasonable compromises to allow for the improvements. If you're looking for Stainless Steel or would just like your cookware to be a little bit more convenient, then you should really consider this set.

Read Best Reviews of Pyrex 10-Piece Cookware Set Here

()This basic ten piece cooking set has lots of nifty design extras. The inside of the pots are marked with measurement lines, which could save you from having to wash measuring cups. The pots also have a pouring lip, making transferring liquids easier. The handles for the pots and pans have a nice comfortable, stylish grip. Most noticeable are the fancy lids. The lids can be hooked onto the pot while you're cooking, so you don't have to find a place to put the lids when you need to take them off.

Though the set has lots of extras, it's not my favorite choice for cooking. First, I don't really like cooking on non-stick pans, but that's just a personal preference. If you like non-stick then these non-stick will satisfy you. Second, for the price, I think pots could have been a bit more substantial. Don't get me wrong; they aren't flimsy, but I like pots a little thicker. Third, some of the improvements seem a little gimmicky to me. For example, I don't really think the redesign of the lids is as helpful as Pyrex wishes it was. Bigger, oddly shaped lids are harder to fit into your dishwasher. Also, if your pot is quite full, the lid will be partially submerged in the food, which is messy (my pots are frequently quite full).

This is a great, high quality product, but ultimately how well you like it will depend on your own personal cooking style. Look at the extras and improvements and think carefully about whether those things will really make life in YOUR kitchen easier.

You betcha it can!I HATED the thought of spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on cookware especially when I am not a huge cook.In fact, my current cookware is from ... err ... 1979 (and boy does it show it).

A few months back I finally had to break down and buy a large part to make spaghetti.Paid close to $40 for that pot alone!Wish I had known about this set first because this is a far better deal for the same quality if not better.

I haven't used it much again because I'm not a big cook. But the pieces I have used are great.Love the fact that there are clear lids. (Old pots/pans had solid lids and I hated them.)

I'm a huge bargain shopper and I think this is one of the best deals around. Plus, it's making me want to cook more.(Better check my smoke alarms!)
