Scanpan Classic 11-Inch Glass Cover

Scanpan Classic 11-Inch Glass CoverThis is, of course a perfect fit to the pan.The domed lid makes for a good moist cooking environment, and you can see what is going on inside. The black knob is easy to grab and does not get hot.I vacillated between this and the steel cover, which looks easier to store.I am glad to have this but would consider the steel cover if storage is a problem.

I got this for a 20 year old Scanpan that had its original lid broken. The design has changed a little over the years but it still fits the large fry pan and the stock pot.The quality is good and it is easy to clean.I expect it to last another 20 years at least.

The lid is well made and fits perfectly on the Scanpan. The best thing about it is you can see through it to check the cooking process without removing it.And the handle on top is stay cool, so you don't burn yourself in the process of removing it.And it cleans easily and quickly. The quality of the lid complements the extremely high quality of the pan that it was designed to fit.

Works well with 11-inch pans and wok, if you do not want to have the dome-shaped stainless steel wok lid (as I didn't). Great quality and design.

T-fal Ultimate Stainless Steel Copper Bottom Multi-Layer Base Dishwasher Safe Fry/Saute Pan, Silver

T-fal C7980764 Ultimate Stainless Steel Copper-Bottom Multi-Layer Base Dishwasher Safe 12-Inch Fry / Saute Pan, SilverI bought this as a Christmas/birthday present for myself and it's exactly what I wanted it to be.You MUST season these pans, though.Just a bit of vegetable oil after heating the pans to a low temp keeps food from sticking. Also, I'm only washing them by hand to both keep them looking nice and to avoid immersing them in all that soapy water. You really just need a TINY bit of soap to clean them after each use.On the downside, I do find myself using just a BIT more oil than usual, but if you're cooking with healthy oils it's barely noticeable, and certainly isn't enough to change the taste of the food.I'm a vegetarian, and so I don't have cause to use these for cooking meat, but I'm sure they would do just fine.If you take care of them, they'll take great care of your food.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I love the cookware. I have the whole set. It works great over medium heat. I suggest medium to medium lw. Even so give it thumbs up

I've had this pan about a month now and it's become my go-to.Very even heating but still light enough to handle one handed for transferring and flipping.Sticking is not a factor as long as you remember to not just chuck things straight from the fridge into it, let them come up to room temperature first, especially eggs.Cleanup is a cinch, I recommend some stainless steel scouring balls, which have yet to affect the surface finish of the pan.

Anolon Ultra Clad Stainless Steel 8" Skillet

Anolon Ultra Clad Stainless Steel 8' SkilletI was hesitant to pay this much for a single skillet, but I decided to take a chance. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. The skillet is very thick and heats evenly. I use it mostly for cooking eggs & omelets. It's not coated with a non-stick material, but a small amount of butter or cooking spray goes a long way. The 8" skillet works well for 2-egg and small 3-egg omelets, but anything bigger would requite a larger skillet.

As far as I'm concerned, this skillet was worth the price. I don't think I could get a skillet as thick and even-heating for less money.

Every time I tried frying or sauteeing something with this pan, regardless of adding oil, the item sticks to the pan. I tried seasoning the pan and it doesn't matter. The curve of the pan is also awful for sauteeing items.

Not worth it at all.

All-Clad Stainless French Skillet

All-Clad Stainless 9-Inch French SkilletMy All Clad LTD 13" French skillet pan will now get more use now that I converted from an electric range to a (natural) gas range.I tried using the 13" French skillet on my 8" electric element and was disappointed with the uneven heating: the outer portion of the bottom did not get hot enough to cook the food (in my case, omelets). That was not a problem with my All Clad 12" fry pans (Copper Core and LTD).Now that I have a natural gas range, the French skillet's entire bottom heats evenly and my omelets turn out great. The handle length works for this largest of All Clad's French skillets.I decided to buy this pan over the All Clad 14" fry pan while both pan bottoms are the same diameter, the French skillet's pan top has a smaller diameter than the 14" fry pan due to the steeper slope. If I need to cover the French skillet when cooking, I can use the lid from my All Clad 6 quart sauté pan (which fits)! There is no All Clad lid I know that I can cover the 14" fry pan, not even if you buy it separately. And the 13" French skillet feels lighter than the 14" fry pan (LTD or stainless). If All Clad made the French skillet in Copper Core, I may get it depending on the weight.Copper is heavy.

PROS:

Weights less than the All Clad 14" stainless or LTD fry pan but with the same bottom cooking area.

Can be covered if you have the lid for the stainless or LTD 6 quart sauté pans

CONS:Does not heat evenly when used on an electric (coil) range.

One last note.If you have a gas range (mine is a Wolf) I really noticed just how quickly the Copper Core pans heats up when compared with the stainless and LTD lines. When I was using an electric range, I appreciated how quickly the Copper Cores heat up.My suggestion is to hold each pan and determine whether you can comfortably handle the weight of each pan and whether the pan's handles are comfortable to you.I like the longer length handles on the All Clad Copper Core pans. All Clad uses a different length and style handle for their LTD and stainless series than the Copper Core series. That standard length handle does not work for the larger sauté (6 Qt), sauce (4 quart), and fry (14") pans: it's just too short. It's all right for their other pans.

I've been using this pan a lot since I bought it a few months back. I bought this pan as an alternative to my old All-clad 12-inch pan which is justtoo wide for my small stove top.Dimensionally, this 11-inch pan is just right.

While I thought the older 12-inch pan was an overall excellent product, this new pan falls a little short of 5 stars. Here's why: the thickness of the pan is thinner than the older pan (though some people will find this a plus if they thought the older pan was too heavy.) The thinness however may have contributed to All-Clad's decision to use a non-flared edge which makes the pan more difficult to clean.Theedge is just too sharp. And for a saute pan with short side walls, you will need to clean the edge often. Also, since the edge is not flared out, pouring is more messy.

On the good side, the handle angle is more acute than older pan. This makes sauteing a little easier than the almost horizontal handle of the older pan.I also like the steeper walls which gives the bottom a large surface area.It also heats up evenly. And best of all it's cheaper than older pan!

Overall, I like this pan but they could made it better. However, knowing All-Clad, if they did, they would have priced it comparable to the older pans. Clearly and unfortunately, marketing entered in the design decisions.

Buy All-Clad Stainless French Skillet Now

The All-Clad stainless line is made of fairly thin stock, and the performance is acceptable, but not outstanding. My desire for All-Clad started when I used the old Master Chef products, but those were manufactured of thicker material, and they conducted better than the current stainless series of products.

January 2010 update -check out the "d5" line of All-Clad stainless offered by Williams-Sonoma.Much heavier, and they have also added a pouring lip to the pots -the 90-degree lip on the regular stainless pots does not pour cleanly, and makes a mess down the side of the pot.Ridiculous for a product in this market segment.I bumped into an All-Clad rep at Williams-Sonoma, and he told me that the changes were made as a result of comments from consumers.

My All-Clad stainless pots and pans are serviceable, and I use them daily, but if you want a luxurious heft, and very even heating, you may want to consider spending a bit more.

Lastly -specifically regarding the French skillet -heads-up -this style of pan doesn't have a rounded transition from the bottom to the sides.Instead, there is a corner at the junction of the bottom and sides.Additionally, the sides are a bit steep.I'm baffled why anyone would want a small fry pan that doesn't have rounded sides, as the corner and steep sides prevent the easy and rapid tossing of the contents, so I offer this review to warn others who also might not know of this distinction, particularly in light of the fact that Amazon's description specifically addresses use of this pan to toss ingredients. If you want to be able to easily flick-toss the contents of your pan, to turn and stir them, then look at the All-Clad fry pans, with a more rounded edge transition, not French skillets.

Another reviewer of this excellent skillet suggested the use of a non-stick pan for those 'sticky' foods. Can't fault that because who wants to do battle in the sink afterwards? However, I found a different approach can work wonders with this pan.For instance those love-to-stick morning eggs.My solution: Heat pan on low for a few minutes with a little olive oil or whatever you use.Turn off heat, toss in eggs, cover pan and sip on that coffee you just brewed.

Oops, what cover you say?Hmm....that's a problem since it is not offered with this skillet. Thus the four-star rating. So improvise or find something you can purchase (and let me know what you find!).

Well, back to the eggs. They're done in a few minutes (how many minutes? Who knows get a see through cover if you must). And guess what?Since this pan heats so evenly and you've compassionately chosen free-range eggs, they slide out of the pan as if they couldn't wait for breakfast yours.

One other note. The handle, cool to the touch and rakish in appearance is what you would have to characterize as non-ergonomic. But that's the French for you beauty and form overshadow a minor annoyance.

Some other reviews have stated a dissatisfaction with this skillet due to it's "convex" bottom. Actually all of the All Clad pans have a Concave bottom. They are determined concave by looking at the pans upside down. The reason for the uneven surface is that when the aluminum core heats up to a certain level it actually warps straight. If the allowance of this concave was not there, the pan would wobble around on your stovetop as then it would be truly convex. Most high quality pans have this feature, and it is built in by design. Also, some people dislike the sticking quality that some food presents on this brand of cookware, but this is also a desired effect. I'm not a chef, but have learned that this caliber of cookware takes a certain level of cooking skill and experience to utilize it properly. Sometimes things can be interpreted as negative if you are using the wrong tools for your skillset. There is a reason that all of the worlds top chefs use this brand exclusively, and it is not endorsements. Lots of great brands out there, and All Clad never dissapoints.

Lodge Pro-Logic P12SG3 Square Griddle, 12-inch

Lodge Pro-Logic P12SG3 Square Griddle, 12-inchI ordered this griddle to replace my Teflon one trying to replace all my teflon cookware piece by piece.I'm VERY happy with it.It came pre-seasoned and ready to use, and I've used it a dozen times already; for pancakes, for quesadillas and most recently, for grilled cheese sandwiches. It does take some "getting used to".It is very heavy for one.And it takes a while to pre-heat, because you don't want to heat it up too fast.I usually start it out on low heat (around 3 or 4 on my electric range).I pre-heat for about 5 minutes. This way, the heat gets evenly distributed. If you start cooking too soon, yes, it will be unevenly heated.Once you bring it up to heat, you need to watch it to make sure it doesn't get too hot.I leave it on 3 or 4, closer to 3 for pancakes, closer to 4 for grilled cheese and it has cooked everything perfectly.Cleans up like a professional non-stick item and is tough, tough, tough.I use my steel pizza cutter to cut through quesadillas right on the griddle before serving them something you definitely CAN'T do on Teflon!

Admittedly, a few drawbacks the weight, the long time to pre-heat.But once you get used to it, you will love it just like I do.

I have a collection of Lodge pans in the kitchen "tool box" so it was a no brainer that getting this griddle would be an exciting addition. It showed up in perfect shape and was even pre-seasoned. I was sure that cooking would be a snap but was quickly very disappointed. After mixing up some delicious home made pancakes, I quickly ruined the first pan full by the pan burning the ones in the middle and under cooking all the others. We use a state of the art G.E. gas stove with very good ratings. The burners all are very even and heat perfectly. After shifting the griddle around to other burners, there was no change. This problem usually stems from poor materials and inconsistent construction. For any other griddle, I would take it in stride but for a Lodge product, this was surprising and unexpected. For comparison purposes, I put on the large skillet and cooked up a perfect set of pancakes. I've never had such an experience and couldn't believe it! This shouldn't stop you from buying their skillets but I can't believe the handling of this griddle. Very disappointing. Very unexpected.

I wanted to love this griddle because I have other Lodge pans and the size is great. That said, even with preheating, this griddle does not heat evenly the center gets much hotter than the corner areas. For pancakes, I rotate them just to have some even browning.A disappointment.

I thought this would perform like the Lodge skillets that get glowing remarks but this is a griddle which to me makes a difference.

Positive:

Sits flat on gas range (doesnt rock) and it has a smooth cooking surface (no bumps that need grinding)

Negatives:

Food sticks to the surface even though I only use it to cook bacon over low heat.I have to use a spatula and scrape under the bacon in order to flip it over which tears the bacon and makes a mess. And yes I always season the pad with oil after cleaning it.

It doesnt heat evenly, even after 1/2 hour on low to medium heat. The middle gets hot, the sides and corners stay much cooler, so the bacon gets burnt in the middle but is still fatty on the ends.

I wanted a flat cooking area of 12"x12".The entire surface area with the lip is 12x12 but the flat cooking area is only 10x10.Not technically wrong but something you should be aware of

Returning it for a 12" Lodge griddle

Okay, it's a square griddle. And it's Lodge Logic.

Both of which are good things it's bulletproof, pre-seasoned, and nothing sticks to it. I've got plenty of Lodge Logic cookware and love the stuff.

However, like most griddles, it's significantly hotter in the center than at the corners, at least on an electric range. Making a consistent batch of, say, hash browns, is possible only with attention... just like any other griddle. I'd really hoped for a thicker bottom with enough thermal mass to give more even heating over the entire surface.

That said, I like to use it in the oven unheated for garlic bread and mini-pizzas to keep the crust from browning before the cheese, and pre-heated for fries and such to minimize/eliminate the need for flipping them exquisite browning, no oil required. In these applications, this pan surpasses anything else available.

For most things on top of the stove, I'd be more inclined to use my 12" round Lodge Logic skillet.

If I had to pick *one*, I'd choose the 12" round skillet over this griddle... but if you really want a griddle, this one still works better than ordinary non-stick and does some amazing work in the oven.

Not thrilled w/the pan..the weight is not what I thought it would be.Guess I needed to read the description a bit better. Also, can not use on higher heats because of the non stick surface, I like higher heats for making pan sauces..Love a Wolfgang Puck that I own..non stick, heavy, easy to clean.

I thought the pan would be ruined. It cleaned up great and looks as good as new.I will say that I never had anything stick to the pan, eggs turned out great and even cheese wiped right off.You would think they had a non-stick coating but they don't.After the one almost caught things do stick to it from time to time but it still cleans up wonderfully.

Tramontina Gourmet Prima Fry Pan with Tri-Ply Base Size: 12"

Tramontina Gourmet Prima Fry Pan with Tri-Ply Base Size: 12'I've always wanted an All-Clad 12-inch frypan. My sister has one and I've used it several times so I know how great it is.But I had such a hard time spending $150+ for a frying pan!I researched comparables and found that Cooks Illustrated rated this an affordable comparison to All-Clad.I've always been happy with Cooks Illustrated's recommendations so I bought this from Amazon. Bottome line is: I'm SO HAPPY WITH IT!

One thing I had to learn is that it conducts heads so well that you may only need a medium heat to cook most foods (I have an electric stovetop).I've browned various cuts of beef, pork, and venison with great results nice, even browning, great fond, no burning or "hot spots."I've also stir-fried veggies and been pleased with the results.

I would recommend this product to any home cook looking for a quality frying pan at a reasonable cost.

Rachael Ray Stainless Steel II 10-Piece Cookware Set, Orange

Rachael Ray Stainless Steel II 10-Piece Cookware Set, Orange ()The Rachael Ray Stainless cookware set is very pretty to look at and has performed quite well to date.

Pros:

Easy to clean (to date).I wish I could review this after 2 years instead of a month and a half.So far though, so good.

Attractive.Pots seem to hold the shine nicely.Orange color is nice.

Orange handle covers appear to hold up very well.

Cons:

The stock pot handles are pretty tight in to the body of the pot.You have to use pot holders when boiling water as it's too easy to burn your fingers.

The other bummer is that the handles are only oven-rated up to 350 degrees. So if you want to make a fritata in the oven, don't use these pans.

The Calphalon pots that we've used for the last 5 years are breaking down. Even though they're the regular pans (not non-stick), the coatings are wearing. It will be interesting to see how these do in 5 years.I wish I could give more help than what I've listed above.

UPDATE:

The nice orange handles do NOT last. They're breaking apart after just a regular amount of wear and tear.We are not hard on our pots and pans and yet, they're breaking apart. That was part of the appeal of these.Based on how they're wearing, I would no longer recommend these.

We just got an induction stove top and since we needed stainless steel cookwear we tohught this would be a great fit, WRONG! everything sticks even if you add non-stick spary, which is not ideal. We got them only 42 days ago and they are looking like we've had them for years. Yes ,they are easy to clean but they worp and look burnt and scracthed. would not recommend this item

()really nice looking & are very light weight holding them. The fluted edges on all the pans make them easier to pour from but looks a little weird. I have arthritis in my hands so I had to give away my magnalite set as they were just too heavy for me to hold empty. These really washed up nicely & nothing stuck. I even scalded milk on purpose and it virtually wiped right out. I had to try them for the review but I keep the farberware set I got & gave these to a grandaughter getting ready to be on her own. She didn't mind that I tried them and she loved them. The glass lids are a real plus to be able to see when something starts to simmer with it covered. The handles make it so easy to hold them without slipping in your hand & they stayed cool.

()The Rachel Ray Stainless Steel II Cookware set includes a variety of pots and pans suitable for use by anyone from single home cooks to a family of up to four. The stainless steel performs well, heating evenly and quickly (which are really the biggest benefits to stainless). The grips (which are a louder tint of orange than the pictures indicate) do a great job of insulating your hands from cooking heat conducting through the handles.

As others have mentioned, they can be extremely tough to keep clean, but that's part and parcel with any stainless steel it's not non-stick, people! That said, I don't like to see stainless being pushed on novice home cooks who would likely be happier with a non-stick cookware set.But they see these shiny gorgeous pans on cooking shows and just have to have that look well, take a picture, because the first time heat and food hits these, that look is forever lost.Frankly, stainless is meant for performance over looks, and for that reason, belongs more in a restaurant kitchen than the average foodie's kitchen.

Overall, this cookware set is affordably priced and performs well, with some great additional ideas that more expensive sets miss such as insulated handles and glass lids. But the caution is that stainless steel may not be the right material at all for many home cooks.Do your homework before buying.

Want Rachael Ray Stainless Steel II 10-Piece Cookware Set, Orange Discount?

()I love to cook, always have.Between mom and grandma, I grew up learning all the "tricks" of the trade. You are as likely to find me in the kitchen during the cold winter months baking up a holiday treat or working on a new recipe just as likely as you are to find me working on my cars during the warmer months. It's a "hobby" that people seem to have forgotten about in our modern times -good, old fashioned home cooking!

Yet, despite my love for the kitchen there was a problem; my hate for the cookware!Oh I've tried it all over the years.Everything from the cheapest of the cheap to some of the more expensive pots and pans.Yet time and time again they let me down. They either didn't hold up to repeated use; started to rust and/or tarnish; heated food unevenly; etc, etc.It was a nightmare.Having working in a restaurant in college I longed for the days when I had restaurant quality pots and pans to use -but, alas, my budget couldn't afford that!

So when I got the chance to try out these Stainless Steel pots and pans from Rachael Ray I was cautious, but willing to give them a shot.To be honest I had used the teflon coated equivalent also offered under the Rachael Ray name and was less than pleased. However, I went into this experiment with an open mind -let the cooking begin!

First and foremost, I decided to whip up dishes that really tested the ability of this cookware.Everything from pasta to stir fry and everything in between. For those of you not used to cooking with stainless steel you must remember that you have to use oil to keep food from sticking and that stainless steel tends to conduct heat a little faster than other materials you may have used in the past.

I was impressed with how evenly this cookware distributed heat.No hot spots, no wild temperature swings.Everything heated up uniformly and a bit quicker than what I was used too.+1

Next, the weight of the pans was tested. There is nothing more aggrevating than having to chase pots and pans around the stove because their weight is not distributed evenly.I am pleased to say that even with the smallest pot I had no problem keeping it in place and able to stir the contents with chasing it around and around.+1

Cleanup was the next adventure -and some of you know that cleaning can be a real chore. Now I have to be fair here, a lot of the "effort" you will put into cleaning any pot or pan has a lot to do with how you use it.If you turn the temperature up to the maximum and let things burn or boil over -well, you have your own situation to deal with there. However, if you cook things properly and keep an eye on things as they cook you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy these guys are to clean.I use a no-scratch ScotchBrite pad and so far I've been happy with the ease at which they clean.Sure, you have to use a little elbow grease now and then but after multiple uses these guys still look as good as the day I took them out of the box.+1

For this car guy who also loves to fool around in the kitchen this cookware has been a blessing.I have no doubt that a year from now I'll still be enjoying it and have high hopes that my search for the "perfect" pot and pan has finally ended -sure, you could get better with restaurant quality, but for the price point and features this set offers, why spend the extra money?

Yum!

Scanpan CTX 11" Fry Pan

Scanpan CTX 12-3/4-Inch Fry PanThis is our Third Scanpan, and we love them.Quite simply the best non-stick cookware we have found.

Let me give a quick background After we collected All-Clad for several years, it was evident that the non-stick All-Clad was not up to the task.It began to get old and clean-up became tiresome and difficult as the All-Clad non-stick coating wore down and honestly stopped working. We also own some of the All-Clad stainless that is "supposed" to be non-stick based on heating it first, but I find that to be untrue. For pots and other cookware we still like it.

Scanpan has become our favorite cookware over the last 3 years, and the first one purchased is as clean and effective as this brand-new one.No visible wear or tear at all, and a breeze to clean up.We started with the small 8 inch, then the 10 inch, and now the 12 inch to round out our collection and replace our last All-Clad non-stick.It is all very durable and fast to heat up, giving perfect even heating across the pan.All of our pans are the CTX line, which we found to be a bit more heavy duty and well built than the cheaper linethicker with a better handle.I can't speak to how the cheaper line may work.My only small complaint is only during clean-up the small steel buttons where the handle is attached is a bit harder to clean, and by saying this you know we are spoiled because the rest of the pan is clean with a wipe of a paper towel or cloth, then you have to scrub the buttons for a few seconds to remove food from them.No biggie. If only they were made from the same material!

I can't say enough about these they are all we use now.Highly recommended and well worth the extra money!

I combined raw onions and a sweet Italian sausage in this skillet on low heat. After the onions were cooked I removed them and turned up the heat to medium high to brown the sausage. When that was done I tried to clean it. The onion remnants refused to be cleaned off. Something about them had bonded tightly to the surface. I contacted Scanpan and they advised adding a teaspoon of baking soda to two cups of water, bring to boil, let stand for 30 mins and then scrub. I had to repeat this EIGHT times before the surface was clean. Now the surface is nothing like as slippery as it was originally, and even fish sticks to it. It remains easy to clean, but it's still a disappointment.

Buy Scanpan CTX 11" Fry Pan Now

I have been using the 8" and 10.25" pans for almost a year with an induction cooktop.I am considering the 12-3/4" one, too. They do occasionally go on sale here at Amazon for less than the usual prices.I wish they made a shallow 2-1/2 quart, 8" diameter saute pan with lid.

Other reviewers have mentioned what makes them so great, and I agree.I think there is something about the ceramic/titanium material embedded just below the surface that makes it cook so much like stainless steel, but without sticking, of course.I rarely use SS skillets for browning anymore, unless I want to make a sauce from the "fond" that builds up in the pan.

The one thing that would make them PERFECT would be a flared pouring rim. This may be difficult to implement due to the materials used.I don't know, but it would be great to have.I find that when I pour from these pans, I have to be ready with a slightly wet and soapy dishcloth to quickly wipe the side/bottom, as liquid WILL run down the sides and then the bottom. If I don't wipe immediately, and the pan is really hot, the liquid will begin to harden/set.

This effect would be even more so with a gas or hot radiating electric cooktop if the pan is returned to the burner without wiping, and cooking continues. Then you will then have to later exert some unnecessary "elbow grease" to clean.

Bar Keeper's Friend works great, btw.

When one reads that this cookware is PFOA-free and how the nonstick coating is applied, words like eco-friendly, titanium, ceramic, high temp make one think SAFE! and one would immediately assume that it has no Teflon. I did. Wrong! The cookware does not have PFOA but it has PTFE (=Teflon). Go to the Scanpan website. You'll see that their non-stick coating is called Greblon. Greblon is a brand name and is the same as Teflon, Silverstone, Fluron, Supra, Excalibur, Xylon, Duracote, Resistal, and so on. They are all PTFE (=Teflon). I am kicking myself hard for trusting the sales people (Sur la Table store in town) when they told me: "Yes, you can heat up tortillas safely on this skillet. It has no Teflon". Fortunately my parrot is alive and well.

I own a set of high-quality stainless steel cookware and I'm very happy with it, but there are times when a non-stick pan is what's needed for the task at hand, and the Scanpan CTX fills the bill perfectly:"Recycled aluminum core with Ceramic Titanium PFOA-Free Non-stick interior surface and 18/10 Stainless Steel exterior."

A lot of "safe" non-stick pans have hit the market recently, and most of them have been accompanied by a plethora of complaints, including losing their non-stick properties after only a few months, and some after just a few uses. This is not the case with the Scanpan.I own both the 10 1/4 inch pan and the 8 inch pan.The 8 inch pan is my go-to pan for omelets and/or scrambled eggs.Nothing sticks to these pans, the food slides out without a hitch each and every time, and the pans look just as good as the day I bought them, no signs of wear and tear.

If you're looking for a durable, high-quality, non-stick pan you won't be disappointed with the Scanpan CTX.

Smart Planet CDM-1 Corn Dog Maker

Smart Planet CDM-1 Corn Dog MakerThis may sound like an odd review, but we have been looking for something like this device for a long time.Hot dogs are a great kid-friendly dinner, and surprisingly low in calories and fat if you get chicken dogs.Corn dogs are tons of fun, but frying them is not only not good for you, it makes dinner heavy and greasy. We tried many times to make oven-corn-dogs, but the batter always fell off.It looked very unappetizing. This corn dog device is perfect. We mixed the batter according to the recipe, put the corn dogs (along with the batter), and a few minutes later, perfect corn dogs on a stick. The outside is crisp (with a nice texture), and the inside fluffy. As close as you can get to frying without actually frying.

It could be improved.First, while hot dogs do come in various sizes, these molds are too short for almost any hot dog.We ended up cutting off the ends of all of them, and then making a corn dog composed of 3 end pieces. It did such a nice job with cooking the bread that you couldn't tell which one wasn't a single dog.Second, it would be nice if the plates were removeable for easier cleaning.I'm still giving this 5 stars because I had an awesome dinner with it.

Overall, glad I bought it, and I would buy it again.Single use appliances are generally not my favorite, but corn dogs need this type of device, and everybody needs home-made corn dogs.

***Update 5 months later***

Wow.... still loving this corn dog maker.Same comments as above--it's not perfect, but everybody in the family looks forward to corn dog night. We use it about once every 2 weeks. We're still buying standard hot dogs, cutting off the ends, and then making a corn dog of cut-off pieces.Another reviewer suggested buying really long hot dogs and cutting them in half.I like that idea, but not sure if they make long chicken hot-dogs.Go ahead and buy this great device, get some spicy honey mustard, and enjoy!

We just got this and within minutes had to test it out.It worked perfectly and is so quick and easy to use!I personally didn't care for the first batter recipe (haven't tried the second one yet).It was good so long as there was hot dog in with every bite, but at the end where I had just dough left, it's not tasty on it's own, but that's no big deal, it's easy enough to change the recipe or use a different recipe all together.I made the first batch without even using the sticks. This will thrill my daughter who loves corn dogs, but isn't a fan of the stick getting in her way of eating it.I'm so excited to try other things with it too.I have so many ideas of what can be made with this fun gadget.I had some crescent dough in the fridge and wrapped a piece around a cheese stick and cooked that upit turned out perfectly cooked, a bit bland it needed some seasoning or a different type of dough, but you can see the possibilities. You can take any dough or batter and add something to it.Pancake/Sausage dogs, stuffed pizza sticks, put sliced apples in a sweet batter and make a kind of apple fritter on a stick.I have a beer bread recipe, and I think that would be great coating for cheese stuffed jalapenos. You could even just use cake, muffin or pancake batter and make some interesting shaped breakfast or dessert items.I have not tried this yet, but I have an idea for S'mores on a stick, use a sweet batter (like pancake, or maybe someone has an idea how to make batter that tastes like graham crackers) place several mini marshmallows on the stick, place it on the batter in the corn dog maker, sprinkle with chocolate chips, and top off with batter close and let cook. Yum.

I plan to use this for the coming school year to make homemade grab and go breakfast items (like sausage on a stick).I make a bunch up, freeze em, and my husband and daughter can just pop them in the microwave and head off to school. I can make them cheaper and healthier than the store bought ones.

update on the S'more dogs.First attempt at these FAIL.They tasted great, but made a mess. The marshmallow and chocolate melted before the dough could even cook.I'm going to change a few things and try it again.First do not use regular marshmallows cut in half, they are still too big.I was excited to make these, and this is what I had on hand.Next time I will use the mini marshmallows and freeze them on the stick before cooking This should give the batter enough time to set before the marshmallow melts. While I had chocolate chips, I also had a Hersey bar. This works perfect.Break the bar into individual pieces, and two get laid down end to end.One bar has enough pieces to fill all 6 molds. Also be careful that you do not overfill the bottom with batter.Put enough in lay down the chocolate(which would also be ideal to freeze before cooking) lay a marshmallow skewer on top of that and cover with enough batter that does not leave any chocolate or marshmallow exposed.I was a little sloppy in my process, and made a big mess. The machine cleaned up fairly easily, but I think freezing the marshmallow and chocolate before cooking is the key to having the batter set before everything starts melting. For the batter I used the included batter recipe in the book but made some changes.I used 3/4 cup white flour in pace of (instead of) of the 1/4 cup corn meal and 1/2 cup wheat flour.I upped the sugar and used two TBS Brown sugar instead of plain and 1 TBS honey. When they are done cooking use a spatula to remove from machine. Do not attempt to pick them up by the stick until they have cooled for a few minutes, otherwise they just fall apart.

Now that Morningstar has ceased making their veggie corndogs, I was desperate to find something to substitute. My daughters school serves corn dogs a lot and I try to match her menu with similar veggie items. This is perfect.I use veggie dogs instead of hotdogs and then follow the recipe for the batter. She loves them and actually I think they are better than the morningstar ones. plus, I like controlling the ingrediants to reduce sodium and other bad things.I don't feel bad about serving her these between the healthy veggie dog and the baked not fried batter. It took me a few turns to get the batter and dog placement exactly right. And as another review said, you have to cut any dog because they don't fit in the wells, but I did what he did and just used the ends of the veggie dogs to make my last corn dog.

This waffle/corn dog iron is smaller than expected.I am not sure what kind of corn dogs that they are talking about, but it surely is not the ones I grew up on.In order to use this device properly, the hot dogs have to be cut in half.Otherwise they will not fit in molds correctly. It would work better as waffle/corn vienna sausage maker.

Another negative issue that I encountered was that steam and condensation collected behind the upper plate. This area contains the monitoring lights and some wiring, which also eventually filled with condensation.

And lastly, the temperature of the iron plates seem to fluctuate and maintaining a proper cooking temp proves difficult for this unit.

This machine makes it so easy to make corn dogs.Mine were veggie dogs and YUM!I didn't use the recipe included to make the batter made my own (Trader Joe's cornbread mix works well too although it is a bit on the sweeter side).

The reviews on Amazon were so helpful. One guy said 7 minutes of cook time seemed to be the charm boy was he correct 7 minutes is perfect. He also said do not be afraid to make a mess and really slop and cover your dogs again right mine turned out shaped well and browned all around and it was not TOO messy to clean up either.( I like to add some extra batter to in between the hotdogs just before I close the machine that way nothing gushes out the back of the machine just into the wells and my dogs are always well shaped and cooked.)

Also you will have to cut 1/3 off of each dog.Works out well because you use 2 of the pieces left over to make another corndog.4 hotdogs made 6 corndogs. That is the main con of this item it is not full sized...

Another tip I let my machine heat up a full 10 minutes prior to cooking. There ARE heating elements in the top of the machine you just have to use enough batter to plump to reach the top.Plus letting them cool slightly for about one minute (with the machine open and unplugged) before removing them helps keep them whole too.

I also learned a trick to get the corndogs out in one piece.I didn't use sticks, by the way just hot dogs and batter.Anyway after 7 minutes open it up, let them cool slightly, then start at the front using your fingers and carefully wiggle each corndog a bit to help free it then just rock and roll the front one off of the cook surface right onto your plate. For the others roll them forward into each empty well until you can roll them out on your plate. They all turned out perfectly that way.Just make sure you spray your wells with Pam or other cooking spray so they do not stick and come out easy.

I would definitely recommend this item although there could be some improvements (mainly the size) another would be real recipes and better instructions and even easier clean-up.

The only recipe included is 1 for the cornbatter. The description says you can also make "cheese on a stick, pizza on a stick, snickers on a stick and more" that may be but you are on your own. There were no recipes included other than for the corbatter on a teeny tiny safety phamplet.

It is not terribly hard to clean up either but it could be a lot better. If the cooking plates were removable that would be nice especially since there is a small gap between the plates and the machine itself. If you get any of the batter into this space you will have to use a toothpick like I did to get the batter out.Not too, too terrible but could be easier if made a little better.

Even brought it over to my parents house and my dad said "Why in the world did you buy that?" and "Who cares that much about corn-dogs?" that is until I made him some. : )

Enjoy!

To recap BIG Prosa few cons...

Con not full sized corn dogs BUT Pro easier to store small machine

Con instructions and 'recipes' a joke there are virtually none
