Presto 06003 Options Electric Multi-Cooker/Steamer

Presto 06003 Options Electric Multi-Cooker/SteamerI bought this EXACT model in 2001, and along with steaming, blanching, roasting, etc., it clearly advertises itself as a "deep fryer" of which it does an excellent job.The manual even includes full frying instructions!

If Presto has decided to now say "don't fry in this", it is strictly a legal move. The problem is that Presto's "fry daddy" line has no temperature control, and it's preset low enough so that you can't set any frying liquid on fire. But these also have no versatility.

The multi-cooker can do so much more, because you can set the temperature from "warm" to 400 degrees. This is higher than the smoke point of some frying mediums (lard and shortening in particular) and therefore IF you don't know the smoke point of what you're using, you can get in trouble. This is probably why Presto's lawyers decided to say it's not a fryer anymore, although it clearly is.I, however, will happily continue to use my multi-cooker to make great fries, fried shrimp and chicken, donuts, etc. in addition to steaming and blanching vegetables, as well as braising. It's the most versatile appliance I own!

I just got this today at Walmart for more than 1/3 off Amazon's price and it says plain and clear that it IS for frying among other things..I tried it an the temp was accurate too. IT also has one of those new magnetic type cords for saftey and you can stick all of it (the pot and lid) in the dishwasher except the cord and thermostat thing. This is a great deal! IT does the job off a fryer, steamer and a crock pot and cost less than most of them do by themselves. I tried the steamer fuction too and it works great! I highly reccomend this, Try it , you won't be dissapointed!

I come from a large family, so i do a lot of cooking. This year everyone came to my house for Christmas, and not only was my mom impressed with my cooking, but also the way everything taste coming out of the steamer. She actually tried to take it home with her.... A week earlier, some of the guys came over, and my wife made her famous deep fried hot wings. The guys went nuts, especially, my brother Jarrick, he loved that there was little mess and because of the drop basket and tempature gauge, not mistakes.I'm buying one for my mom and my brother, at least that way i know i can keep my own! Thanks Presto

I have had this Multi-Cooker for years, and I still love it.I started out using it to steam clams and crab legs. Then I went on to use it as a stock pot it's great for quickly reducing to freezable size.I recently have found a great hot wings sauce (Ken's) and have been using my true-blue multi-cooker as a fryer, and it is working out great.I just love this thing. It is easy to clean up.It's light and easy to handle. It heats up quickly and has had no technical problems.I love being able to tell what temperature I am cooking on (can set degrees not just high medium or low temps) and be able to see through the glass lid at how the contents are doing. This is definitely a kitchen must-have.

I, too, bought this cooker at Target believing it was a fryer and was disappointed that the instructions noted it was NOT a fryer.Unable to find anything I liked better (the plastic machines seem flimsy and clunky), I took the advice of the last reviewer and tried it as a deep-fryer for tofu and eggrolls. It works! The thermostat seems reliable, and it heats up quickly enough.Plus, it's dishwasher-safe and nonstick. The only disappointments include the fry-basket, which isn't optimum for draining oil and is awkward to handle with a removable pinch-handle-but I improvised with tongs. And it would be nice to have an airtight lid to store the oil-but the glass one does just fine if you change the oil occasionally. As someone who usually avoids frying foods for health reasons, this little pot allows me to cook the few fried goods I'd normally go out for as well, or even better, than how I'd get them at a restaurant-and it makes my "it-ain't-good-unless-it's-fried" husband feel like he's got a place in the kitchen.

Silit Passion Deep 9-Inch Frying Pan, Crazy Yellow

Silit Passion Deep 9-Inch Frying Pan, Crazy YellowIn the first Indiana Jones film, Marian whacks a bad guy on the head with a frying pan and he goes down hard (I think he died)...meet that frying pan.Its painted like a sexy Lamborghini and is NOT light. The ceramic coating is NOT Teflon and won't flake off when you decide to boil water in it.I've fried eggs with a littlebutter (this isn't really non-stick), fried fish sticks, and made Chinese noodles ...all with no problems...and cleaned up the pan with water and a sponge.

The only thing that stuck a little (left a "ghost print" which eventually scrubbed off) were Chinese steamed dumplings.I've got this and the 11 inch serving pan and am contemplating the 8 inch model.I live in Germany, so the price isn't so insane!Keep your eyes peeled for Silit Silargan cookware like this...I can't imagine you'll be disappointed! T-fal A8058962 Specialty Nonstick Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator 14-Inch Jumbo Wok Cookware, Black

T-fal A8058962 Specialty Nonstick Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator 14-Inch Jumbo Wok Cookware, BlackI cook Chinese food everyday. However, it's very difficult to find a good wok here in US. I have shopped around and used many different woks since I came to US 13 years ago.

I got a T-Fal fry pan last year from a friend. It works great. Therefore, I was looking for a wok from T-Fal. I couldn't find it from the local stores. Finally, I found it at Amazon. When it arrived, I was surprised how beautiful it is. I tried it immediately. It works perfectly. Finally, I don't have to do the "wok hunting" again!

Original post on 1/4/11: What I like most about this wok is its excellent non-stick coating.I use it everyday with wooden spatula. Wouldn't risk to use metal utensil although the product description says ok.I stir fry rice cake (very sticky) and gladly found the wok really non-stick. Extremely easy to clean. It's wide enough but a little too shallow (3" in depth) comparing to other 14" wok in the market. The bottom is very slippery on stove top.Make sure you hold the handle when you stir or turn the food.

2/10/11 update: Very disappointed to find many scratches after 1 month. I use it with wooden utensil only and clean it with a sponge. For the health of my family, I had to throw it away when the Teflon came off. I hope this once-so-great wok last longer.

A "wok" is a Chinese frying pan and the generic term "frying pan" (in English) is generally used to denote a Sauté pan. This T-fal "wok" is a perfect fusion of the two and once you own one and learn how to use it, you probably won't need another pan (unless it's a duplicate T-fal wok).

The great thing to notice about this pan (vs. others) is its weight. It's 2.6 pounds.Take a look around at other 14-inch pans.None of them even come close and are more than likely at least double the weight.

Its only handicap is as you've probably already guessed its lack of a lid.Fortunately, the workaround is easy -just use the lid from the pan you are/will be replacing (as you won't be using it anymore once you discover the versatility of this pan). Also, it's important to note that you don't need a full 14" lid. With the pan's sloping sides, a smaller lid will work just fine.

***UPDATE #1*** May 9th, 2012

Wok is still in good condition.Teflon has worn a bit, non-stick efficacy isn't as great as when new but nonetheless working. So far, no flaking or other signs of concern.

I use cooking spray when I make eggs, but otherwise not terribly needed.

I should mention that I've been using OXO Good Grips Silicone Flexible Pancake Turner since I bought it.I don't believe there's a better spatula for this pan.

***UPDATE #2*** November 6th, 2012

Wok's non-stick ability is nearly gone, I use cooking spray every time. The pan's condition otherwise is fine.Handles aren't loose and other than the poor non-stick efficacy, the pan works.

It should be mentioned that this pan has had, and is still under HEAVY use. Also, I've thoughtlessly left my electric stove turned on with the pan on top more than a couple of times raising the temperature much higher than its directed/intended use.I'm sure that wasn't good for the teflon coating.

Calphalon Cool Grip Handle for Professional Hard-Anodized Cookware, Small

Calphalon Cool Grip Handle for Professional Hard-Anodized Cookware, SmallI'm giving this 3 stars instead of 5, not because this isn't a good product but because Calphalon should include these grips with their pans, rather than forcing us to fork over another bucket of dough so we don't have to burn our hands...Other than that, this works well enough.

This Calphalon Small Cool Grip Handle is essential for use with the Calphalon Professional Hard Anodized cookware, such as 7and 8-Inch Omelet Pans, 1and 2-Quart Sauté Pans, 1and 1 1/2-Quart Sauce Pans, and 1-Quart Windsor Pan. I leave my cool grips in place over the handles. Like the Calphalon pans, the cool grips must be hand-washed. If I don't have a cool grip for a Professional Hard Anodized pan, I use the Calphalon suede panhandler or a thick potholder because the chrome plated iron handles on these pans may be hot to the touch.

Buy Calphalon Cool Grip Handle for Professional Hard-Anodized Cookware, Small Now

I've had my Calphalon professional hard anodized set of cookware for about 10 years now.Wouldn't use any other brand, but these cool grip handles are a MUST with this particular line. The handles on the pots do get quite hot, but these handles can even handle oven temps up to 500 if you need to put the pan in the oven.

I'm ordering two or three more since I have a couple of pots I'm using more these days that don't have the cool grips on them.I usually leave the grips on my pots and take them off occasionally to clean them by hand.

I wish they would make these post-purchase type products for the lids on my pots. Those handles get quite hot as well and I have to use a potholder.I know the newer lines of Calphalon don't have hot handles on the pots or lids, but the older lines still have them.

NEW 12" Electric Skillet/Fryer (Kitchen & Housewares)

NEW 12' Electric Skillet/FryerOf the several electric skillets I use regularly, this is the least versatile. The heating is very spotty, with areas in the center and along the outer edges much cooler than those in direct contact with the heating element, resulting in uneven browning. It is not good at all for extended frying, unless you like soggy, greasy food. The thermostat doesn't sustain temps--when the set temperature is reached, the thermostat shuts down the heat, and food just sits there soaking up grease until the thermostat decides to come on again. Even simmering sauces is iffy with this skillet, since foods tend to stick directly above the heating element, even at lowest settings. I give it one star at most.

This product just arrived.I've used it once.

It's SHALLOW, so you wont want to do much in the way of pan sauce or serious deglazing or gravies in it... but it's big enough for four boneless chops or chicken breasts... makes a beautiful omlette....(what I used it for this morning)

and it gets HOT HOT FAST FAST... becareful... I sprayed my pan, and before I could crack my egg, the spray was scortched.not use to that speed in the heating up dept. and it's LIGHT with a good heavy QUALITY glass lid.

Buy NEW 12" Electric Skillet/Fryer (Kitchen & Housewares) Now

This purchase was for a light duty backup for extra side dishes.Would not use such a poorly controlled cooking surface for anything other than keeping water warm and then it would probably boil dry one time and fail to heat at all the next.No reliable heat control evident no matter what the heat selector dial setting is.Is now relegated to the 'learned one there' pile of rejects. In short, it looks very nice, good finish, lid doesn't fit all that well though and the temperature control is a deal breaker. It's not worth Amazon tarnishing their image with this item.

The depth of the cooking surface area is too small compare to the overall actual size of the skillet. Also, it does not get hot uniformly. The skillet outer most material and handles are not sturdy. I bought two of them for me and a friend and I already gave away mine. I would neither buy it again nor recommend to anyone to buy it.

Most inexpensive skillets are good for a year or two.

This one lasted less than a month.

The weight of the metal the pan is made from is so light that it warped with a few uses.

Hardly any heat spread at all.

Non stick liner didn't last the month either.

Is a very nice looking unit.Just made substandard.

Pay a couple dollars more for a better known brand.

Cajun Cookware Skillets 3-piece Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet Set - Gl10497s

Cajun Cookware Skillets 3-piece Seasoned Cast Iron Skillet Set - Gl10497sThis three piece set of cast iron skillets is definately a great value. It meets all expectations.Items were pre-seasoned and hold up very well.

They came pre-seasoned as advertised. You know a pan is great when egg yolk just beads off of it and scoops right up onto your spatula.I've fried eggs on just about every other type of pan and usually if you accidentally break one, you're through -everything sticks -NOT the case here.

I've been cooking with this set pretty much daily since I got it, and I'm also already feeling the benefits of getting enough dietary iron! (a known result of using cast iron cookware).

Mr. Wilcox, sorry, but next time you should probably bust out a ruler before you decide to buy something.Differences between what you think twelve inches looks like and what it actually does look like are not the seller's fault.

All Clad Stainless Steel 13-Inch French Skillet with Lid

All Clad Stainless Steel 13-Inch French Skillet with LidAs with all All Clad products, this skillet is solidly built and performs as advertised. The helper handle makes it easier to use with heavy loads, but harder to hang up with my other pans since the space I have isn't as big as this pan is long. The included instructions say not to use salt directly in the pan as the pan will become discoloured or pitted; The first time I used the pan, I salted my fish fillet prior to placing it in the pan and the pan became pitted immediately. I don't mind that much since it was going to happen eventually.

All-Clad is a brand of cookware I am familiar with and this is a recent gift I feel so fortunate to have been given.

First, I love the overall high quality construction. When I'm cooking with this I know I'm definitely cooking with one of the very best skillets there is.

Two, I am not too thrilled with Teflon coatings and this provides a stainless steel inside which helps keep food from sticking, without Teflon or similar coatings.

Three, though it may not be very important to some, I love the look of the skillet. It just gleams. I love the bolts holding the handles in place.

Three, the handles don't get hot. This to me is very important, because when hustling in the kitchen, I have accidentally opened pans without a mitt and gotten my fingers burned.

Four, the heat is evenly maintained and will not burn in certain spots.

I am just thrilled with my skillet.

Everyone has their preferences and I prefer this skillet to my others and the lid fits perfectly and both pieces are very easy to clean and keep the high shine.

I love it and recommend it.

Most of my cookware is nonstick, but I needed a large skillet with a lid that could handle high heat in the oven. I decided to use it to make my spaghetti sauce today. I fried the Italian sausage, then the meatballs, ground beef, and then I sauteed the onions and peppers and finished with the tomatoes and let it all simmer. I was shocked when after all of this the pan was spotless using only my dish sponge and liquid soap. Cleanup was as easy as my nonstick. I don't expect it to always be so, but this was amazing. This was my firt tri ply, and the even heating was dramatic. I had intended for this to be the last piece of cookware I would ever need, now I plan to replace a few of my nonstick pieces with All Clad.

My wife wanted a hybrid induction/radiant range for our kitchen remodel. We have mostly copper bottom RevereWare pots that won't work on the induction top.So, I decided to buy this All Clad pan as the first step in revamping our cookware. This pan is noticeably heavier than the RevereWare.I have been impressed with how well it works with the induction range and actually enjoy cooking with this well designed skillet. My wife's reaction was lukewarm and she didn't seem too excited about this dazzling piece ofkitchen art.

That apathy changed when we went to a cooking demonstration while we were staying at the Greenbrier. The kitchen there uses All Clad pans and I had to point that out to my wife.It was actually this pan that the chef used during the demo.We talked with the chef after her presentation and I asked her opinion of All Clad. She raved about the brand, saying that they hold up really well even with the constant use and abuse of a professional kitchen. After this conversation, the wife seems more appreciative of her gift!

We want to continue building our collection of All Clad cookware and this was a versatile starter.

Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry Skillet

Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry SkilletAnother great product from Amazon.

Neither the Amazon page nor the Stansport page mention the size of this wok.It measures 12 7/8" outside dimension.Perfect for my needs. It also didn't mention that a wok ring is not needed. It has a cast flat bottom on the outside but still keeps the smooth dome shape inside.

It does require immediate seasoning prior to use.

I am VERY pleased with my purchase and will be looking for more items from this manufacturer in the future.A great buy for a product that should outlive me several times over.

Would purchase again, will recommend this wok to my friends and family.

Most home ranges just don't get hot enough to manage wok cooking. The range has to produce enough heat to fire up and go through a thick layer of cast iron.Robert Yick's website shows that their wok ranges go up to 150,000 BTU.The Wok Shop in San Francisco's Chinatown sells a 32,000 BTU burner. What does a good gas range put out?Maybe 20,000 BTU?

When I first got this item, many moons ago, it was used outdoors.Excellent for campfire cooking. It also works great in the backyard if you build a good fire in your bbq pit.It was okay on the stove, but it seemed to take forever to heat up on my gas range, and it just did not feel all that hot.If you're using a basic home gas range, stick to the 16 inch Traditional Cast Iron Wok.

Where this wok really excels is on an induction cooktop.I use a Max Burton 6000 1800-Watt Portable Induction Cooktop, Black.Unbelievable how hot this wok can get.I can run an extension cord outside, fire up a wok full of oil, and do all my deep frying without getting the house all hot, smokey, and oiley.First of all, the oil in the wok gets to a rolling boil within minutes. It takes a lot longer than that if I were to build a fire, or set up a propane turkey fryer.I can cook up batches of chicken wings by the dozen, and with a little Frank's Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce 1 gal. and some Butter unsalted 83% 1 lb, you will swear I am wearing a tight t-shirt and orange shorts. The best part is that all that I have to do is turn off my induction cooktop. No worrying about waiting for the fire to burn out, or worrying about the oil boiling over into a live flame.

Oh, and by the way, in case you can't get Chinese food on every corner like here in San Francisco; this wok makes really good Chinese food.

This one works great, heavy but this is true cast iron. Do not trust those light weight cast iron wok, not working. The size is perfect for frying veggies etc. simply love it. Love the handle design too.

Read Best Reviews of Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry Skillet Here

It's very heavy. So heavy, there's no way you'll lift it with one hand and tilt it to pour out the food. One person would need to hold it with two hands while someone else scoops out the contents. It's better for weight lifting. Also it arrives covered in a layer of some sort of wax which we are advised to rinse out with warm water and soap. Getting this wax off was pretty distressing to me because there's no telling when the iron is clean, and whatever remains ends up in your dinner that first meal. Next we are instructed to season it with oil then bake for, I think, two hours. After 20 minutes my house was in a deep fog and all smoke alarms were going off, so I left it at that and considered it seasoned.

Having said all that, once you get it broken in, it seems like a very durable, very well-made wok; I could see it lasting a lifetime.

Want Stansport Cast Iron Wok or Stir Fry Skillet Discount?

Pros: Great Size, neither too big nor too small, and the weight is suitable for ladies to handle as well.

Heat evenly, easy to clean.

Heat concentrates in the bottom as a wok should do. when you cooking the handle is not so hot at

all.

This wok is great for stir and deep frying.

Nice workmanship, but still cannot beat LODGE.

Cons: Remember to remove the wax coating before seasoning-After washing it with brush and soapy water, I put a full wok of water on the oventop andturn the oven to high heat for 20 min., then most wax will melted in the water. I don't think the wax coating can be easily removed just by your brush and soapy.

Would recommend it to any one who wants a cast iron wok!

p.s The first wok I received it not a good one-there's hole under the bottom and then Amazon sent a new one to me right away on the following day! I am a fan of Amazon, Amazon's service is SO GREAT!

updated: I would like to add one con to my review.

This wok heat slowly on oven top, much slower than my LODGE skillet and dutch oven. So I only use it for deep fry once in a while. I guess that is due to the thick base of it. Maybe I should try the induction cooking top someday, it may works better.

Cuisinart FCT-10 French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 10-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart FCT-10 French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 10-Piece Cookware SetSo far I'm thoroughly pleased with this cookware. Looks great, comfortable handles, nice heavy weight, and most importantly, heats evenly without the hotspots found with less substantial cookware. Absolutely love the size of the 'dutch oven'. It's heavy enough and the perfect size for my 'no knead bread' recipe.

I'll admit to being a bit leery prior to purchase. Only announced in June of 2011, this line was an unproven commodity. We were leaning heavily toward the All-Clad stainless line. I decided to order the 1qt saucepan of the French Classic Cuisinart cookware to compare. After that we were sold.

Pros:

Induction compatible, which was a must for us as we plan on upgrading to an induction cook top.

Handles more comfortable than All-Clad (an individual thing I'm sure. Try them both if you can to see which you prefer.)

Price compared to other what I would call "better quality" lines of cookware like All-Clad, Viking's Pro line, ...

Interchangeable covers. The stock pot, dutch oven, and sauté pan all use the same size lid, and it also fits the 10" skillet.

Cons:

Selection. You can get a piece of All-Clad cookware in every size and style imaginable. Only a few pieces available in this line. But if what they offer is all you need...

Pouring. The non lipped style doesn't lend to pouring from pot or pan neatly. A guide spoon is needed if pouring slowly from a fuller pan. The plus side of that is well fitting lids.

A nice set overall that we're very pleased with. I'm no pro and have never really needed a Windsor, Sauteuse, or Paella pan. :)

Awesome set. Fast to heat up. Even heating. Foods don't stick. Comfortable handles. Great look and mirror finish all for hundreds of dollars less than all clad.

I recently purchased this set and just love it!I have the cuisinart gourmet green for non-stick cooking and it's terrific as well.My mom used Waterless stainless cookware for 40 years (I have that set) but this Cuisinart French Classic has it beat.Even heating, non-stick and easy clean up.It's nice to be able to cook on lower heat settings with fantastic results!

I purchased this 10-piece Cuisinart cookware set to replace a set of Revere ProLines that are falling apart (literally, the copper bottoms are dropping off). I thought my ProLines were pretty good, but the quality of the Cuisinart French Classic far surpasses what I've been using, with triple-thick walls, stainless form-fitting covers, and a nice balance in the hand with contoured handles. They are on the heavy side, but I like a substantial pan, they feel durable and I don't doubt they will last a lifetime. They heat quickly and cook evenly with less heat because of the aluminum core.

A few (minor) complaints: The large rivets for the handles on the inside of the pots are a little hard to clean up, but that doesn't affect my overall love of the cookware. Then they recommend plastic or wood utensils to preserve the glossy interior.I don't care so much about the insides, so I'll continue to use metal utensils on my cookware.I would have also liked to have seen another saucepan or two in this collection, but there are pieces that can be purchased separately.

There is a lifetime warranty on the French Classic line; Cuisinart appears to have their own repair center and offers a large variety of top-quality cookware should something need to be replaced.I cannot get Revere to honor their lifetime warranty on their ProLine pans, since they don't offer repair and they no longer make the line or anything comparable.

I highly recommend this cookware set if you are looking for something substantial and long-lasting.I would say these are on par with higher-end brands out there, and are relatively inexpensive compared to those.I'm very pleased with how they look, their durability, and how they cook.

This review will compare this set to a similar set available at Bed Bath and Beyond. For a general comparison to other brands of tri-ply, see my review of Cuisinart FCT33-28H French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 5-1/2-Quart Saute Pan with Helper Handle and CoverAs you can read, the French Classic is constructed the same or better than other lines of tri-ply, but I really like how it looks. It's cost is similar, or cheaper than most lines. It performs great, and compares well to my outgoing Circulon set. It's also probably the only thing I own that's made in France, and I like to buy non-Chinese(quality and slave labor issues) when possible, so that's worth something.

The set at BB&B costs $240 if you use one of their 20% off coupons, which is quiet a bit cheaper than this set. They are both 10 piece sets. Both come with the same 8 and 10 inch open skillets, and a steamer basket. Both have a 2 quart sauce pat.Other than that, there's quiet a bit of difference. The BB&B set has glass lids, while this set has stainless lids.My 5.5 quart Sauté Pan came with the stainless lid, so I can compare the lids.I prefer the glass. The stainless lids are so shiny that they show smudges easier than the glass.I also like seeing the food cook. They probably both seal equally, but because you can see the food through the glass, you don't have to lift the lid as much, so the glass effectively keeps in more moisture.

Another big difference is the 3 quart sauté pan, which lacks a helper handle on the BB&B set.I like pans with a helper handle, because it's easier to move them around.I also like how you can balance the pan over the sink on the two handles while you fill it with water to soak.I wish the BB&B pan had a helper handle.

The BB&B set's 6 quart stock pot is 2 quarts smaller than this set's.It would be nice to have the larger stock pot.Another big difference is this set offers a nice Dutch oven, while the BB&B set offers a 1 quart sauté pan.You can bet that you'll use the 1 quart saute pan more than that Dutch oven, and you can buy a nice Dutch oven with the $160 price difference, and a larger stock pot if you need one, though not from the French Classic line.I already had one, and I already had a large stock pot.Note that you can't buy the larger 8 quart stock pot or the Dutch oven separately in the French Classic line. You can buy the Cuisinart FCT19-14 French Classic Tri-Ply Stainless 1-Quart Saucepan with Cover separately, though.

I think the BB&B set is a good basic starter set, or a good set to buy to replace frequently used pans, like I did.You may already have the larger pans it's missing, or you can buy them with the price savings over this set.You may prefer the glass lids, as I do, or you may like the shiny metal ones on this set.The only thing this set has over the BB&B set for me is the helper handle on the 3 quart sauté pan.

You'll like either set, and both are great values when compared to other lines of tri-ply.I just think the BB&B set is a better value. In either case, consider if you will want to buy any other pans, and if you'll want them to match these sets, because there's hardly any open stock French Classic pieces.
