Lodge Cast Iron Fajita Set with Wooden Underliner, Chili Pepper Red

Lodge Cast Iron Fajita Set with Wooden Underliner, Chili Pepper RedI love cooking with cast iron. These fajita sets are so versatile. We do our steaks on them.Heat the skillets on the grill first, get them RED-HOT!.... then drop your steaks on them.Turn once. And serve them to guests SIZZLIN'... Your guests will be impressed... and of course they're good for fajitas, too.Ever tried drop biscuits on them?Drop some butter, preheat the skillets, then drop the biscuitdough on.Just tried cooking fresh fish filets on them.Spray w/butter flavored Pam, preheat, bake at 350.Yummy!

The secret to castiron cooking is to PRE-HEAT IT!!! andd when you're through, wash up, turn upside down in heated oven to dry.Protects your seasoning of skillets.

...

The Lodge Cast Iron Fajita Set with Wooden Underliner (and potholder) is a fun specialty item for your kitchen. Fajitas are so easy to make--teens love to cook them.

Lodge is the premier United States manufacturer of cast iron pans. I like the idea that I can add a bit of iron to my diet by using them. Be sure to season this fajita pan before the first use. (Follow the included directions or simply rub with a bit of vegetable shortening, inside and out, and place in a 250 degree oven for a couple of hours, and then let it cool.) I wipe mine off with a paper towel and avoid washing it with soap, and it has become almost nonstick.

My brother gave us this for Christmas. At first, I was pretty disappointed if only because a pair would make more sense for a family of four. This pan is not very large and at this price, why not splurge? However, this is a fantastic pan for pancakes. It heats quickly, it makes one fast, fluffy, huge pancake at a time, it's a breeze to clean, and it's sort of funny! Also the potholder is useful when I use my "real" pans.

I've used this twice now and have been impressed....it's just like the restaurants.

I always make sure the vegetables are not fully cooked because they will cook in the fajita skillet, since it gets so hot.

Clipper Aluminum Seamless Pizza Screen

Clipper 215-00270 16-Inch Aluminum Seamless Pizza ScreenDURABLE, LONG LASTING: The screen is made from heavy-gauge aluminum, this pan isn't too thin or flimsey.the ring around the outside is also quite thick and flat-rolled onto the screen. Nice, heavy restaurant-style stuff.I look forward to many years of use out of this.

STURDY: I have built pizzas on this thing, loaded up with toppings and sauce, and it is stiff enough to easily maneuver in and out of the oven.I have used it in both a standard oven, and also in my "wave" oven.Fits perfectly in the wave oven, bought it specifically for this application, but it will work well anywhere you are baking.Perfect size if you don't need a huge pizza, but the small size makes it very flexible in use.I think it might even fit pretty easily in a toaster oven too.Happy Baking!

WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN: Absolutely.. and they are so cheap, I bought two of them.. if I was to do it again, I'd probably get three.

Pizza screen are the best way to get a nice crisp crust. I have not had it long so I can't comment on durability.

We purchased a cooking screen like this about 5 years ago ... nice for Pizza (cooking or reheats), tatter tots, etc.We have looked and looked without much lluck for a replacement since our original unit after using it hundreds of times has taken it's toll, so was delighted to find this product on Amazon Great price under $6, so bought 3.Just received them excellent quality and so-o happy to find them. The crust on your pizza is really nice using this type screen tatter tots crispy vs more traditional pizza pans ... e-z to clean -just put it in the dishwasherhighly recommend without any reservation.

I could never get the hang of my pizza peel, probably because it was so cheap and rough my dough stuck to it and I could never shake it off in one piece onto my pizza stone even with lots of corn meal on it. So I started using a pizza pan, the kind with holes in it, but it left my crust all soggy. So I tried this screen. I stretched the dough and put it directly on the screen (sprayed with some Pam). Then I put the screen with the pizza on my stone and it came out great. The crust had a great crispy bottom but was still fold able like a New York style should be. Now my pizza pan is just used to transfer the cooked pizza onto for slicing. The screen is well built and lightweight. I got the 16" and it's perfect for a large family sized pizza, but I might order a few smaller ones to make individual pizzas.

Want Clipper Aluminum Seamless Pizza Screen Discount?

I have had a couple of pizza screens for over 20 years. This is built better than the previous ones with a heavier rim, so should be more durable. We use them for cookie cooling racks and noodle strainers as well (flat against the kettle)

One of my old ones finally became bent and torn so found this one for half the price of my 20-year old one.

Catches most of the cheese that might bubble off and otherwise land on the oven bottom.Allows for even baking of pizzas, frozen or fresh, although we use a solid pizza pan for a couple minutes first with fresh-dough pizzas to make sure that the crust has started to skin a little, then transfer to the screen to finish baking.

Works well for making garlic or cheese toast too.Better to get a 16" since it fits in most ovens and can bake anything smaller, rather than a too-small sized one.

To clean, let it soak on top of the pizza pan in warm soapy water then use a brush if there is stuff in the holes. Only takes a minute.

The Camp Chef SK-4 Cast Iron Skillet, 4 Inch Diameter

The Camp Chef SK-4 Cast Iron Skillet, 4 Inch DiameterI use it all the time to make one egg.Once it's seasoned it never sticks. While cooking my egg I put another small cast iron pan upside down on top and my egg cooks perfectly. The egg comes out perfectly round and is great for putting in an English muffin with Canadian bacon and a slice of cheese.Yum!

Pros: Easily concealed, oddly strange, small..

Cons: The raised stuff on the bottom makes this an impractical pan for real cooking.

On the plus side it is very fun to hide at friends houses until they find it.Thus the pro's for easily concealed.

SCI Scandicrafts 7-Cup Cast Iron Aebleskiver Pan

SCI Scandicrafts 7-Cup Cast Iron Aebleskiver PanI rate this only four stars because it's so so super heavy. It's cast iron of course and you expect it to be heavy but this pan seems heavier than many other cast iron pans I have on hand.

These aebleskivers are super yummy and super fun to make. If you use chopsticks or a toothpick you will find that they turn over easier. We have made these for many years using this pan and have never been dissapointed in the pan. The pan is sturdy, flat/even on the bottom, and as best as we can tell heats evenly.

Enjoy.

this is as close to an original Aebleskiver pan as they come.Nice and heavy and well shaped.Great buy.

I had never had aebleskivers before, I had only heard of them.I became curious enough to want to make them.I have used a traditional batter recipe and commercial pancake batter with this pan and both worked well.I have made chocolate chip aebleskivers with this pan.I have a nice gas range to use it on and it works perfectly.if I had an electric or flat top, or cheap gas range it might not have worked out so well, but this is not the fault of the pan or those that designed and/or made it.I was able to season it without any problems either.

I purchased this pan locally, but I never used it. It appears to be good quality, but it will not sit on my gas range. The outer ring circumference is too large to sit on my circular burner grate, so you have to try to balance it on the bottom of the cups. I balanced it on the unlit burner, then later I closed the oven door and the pan almost fell to the floor because the slight vibration jostled it off it's precarious perch. Not a good idea if it is covered with hot oil or butter!

I have returned it and will purchase the Lodge pan because it has a ring connecting the bottom of the outer cups, which should work just fine with my stove.

KitchenAid Gourmet Hard Anodized Nonstick 9" & 11.5" Skillet Twin Pack

KitchenAid Gourmet Hard Anodized Nonstick 9' & 11.5' Skillet Twin PackAfter 40+ years of marriage we finally tried these nonstick pans. They are the first nonsticks we like, other we simply threw away.

Our long lasting Stainless pans finally gave up (handles broke off), they were used daily for over 40 years and didn't owe us a thing!

Tried these Kitchen Aids and some compatible tools and are very happy with their performance, ease of use, easy cleaning etc. I don't expect the extra long life of our Stainless set but their quality and ease of use make them a pleasure to use.

I really like the 9" pan for I am single and frying is made easier for portion size with a slightly bigger pan than an 8 inch smaller than a 10 inch. And the larger pan 11 1/2 inch is great for bigger portions when company is coming. Easy Clean up.

Lynns Mercury 12 Inch Open Frypan

Lynns Mercury 12 Inch Open FrypanI was very disappointed with this purchase (I usually love buying from Amazon). I wanted a large stainless steel frypan with lid (which was how this item was advertised). The first pan came without a lid so I returned it asking for the lid to be included. The replacement pan arrived also without a lid, so I assumed that this pan was wrongly advertised. I have purchased other Lynns Mercury pans and have been very pleased with them, but this one is definitely inferior quality stainless steel and I don't think I would buy Lynns Mercury unseen in future.

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Grill Pan

Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 11-Inch Square Grill PanI had been toying with the idea of a non-stick "grill pan" for some time, and could never justify the expense... After all, I had a large George Foreman, and used it very rarely.

But I was running out of cookware to shop for , and began tracking several with the plan of buying the first one that came on at a great price.... I tracked both All Clads, and this one.I almost bought the large All Clad, but discovered they didn't qualify for the Amazon promotion, so that blew that!

Then this one came up at $29.99 and I jumped all over it!

I have done beef steaks, pork steaks and salmon on it with excellent results.Cleanup, though not a breeze, is quick enough.Cooking residue tends to stick tighter on either side of the rounded ribs, but I have yet to need anything more than a little dish soap and hot water on a terry dish cloth.

One caveat I seriously doubt those with solid top Electric Ranges will be satisfied with this pan.The bottom is not smooth, but rather follows the ridged cooking surface in reverse.I am not familiar with these ranges, but understand a perfectly flat surface is essential to successful cooking.

Now I'm thinking about the 11" square griddle....

;0))

PK

This is the perfect hamburger or grilled fish pan -and it also makes great panninis, so you don't have to clutter up your kitchen with an extra single-use pan.Fits 4 burgers at a time and as long as you take care of it properly, sears nicely without anything sticking.More useful than the round shape, and easier to get the spatula in to turn things.Highly recommended.

Pros Very nonstick, browns meat well even if it's nonstick, easy to clean up, easy to carry, stay cool metal handles, useful shape and size.

Cons Like all nonstick, can't use high heat.

I've only had this pan a week, so I'm not sure how well it will hold up, but it's performed excellently so far.I used it to sear a whole beef tenderloin (before transferring to a roasting pan for the oven). The instructions said to avoid high heat, so I seared it over the equivalent of medium high heat on my 22K burner. The roast browned beautifully and I got good grill marks in the center (not as much towards the corners, but maybe because I didn't brown long enough).

Clean up was a breeze, with a couple drops of dishwashing liquid, hot water, and a soft bristle brush to scrub lightly.

I've also fried bacon, and the square shape makes it easy to pour out the rendered fat.

It's been easier & faster to preheat this pan than to preheat (& later clean) my range's grill burner, so I think I'll be using this more often than my grill burner.

I like it's lightweight feel, it's much easier to carry when laden with food than my previous Calphalon nonstick 12" saute pan (which always felt heavy & "tippy"), but it can fit just as much due to its square shape.

The handle truly stayed cool even when used to sear the tenderloin, and the round shape makes it easy to grasp (unlike the more flat handles of other pans).

I was given this pan for christmas as I requested a grill pan. First off the ridges in the pan are so shallow that they are mere bumps and the meat lays on the bottom of the pan. You might as well be cooking your meat in a flat bottomed pan, seriously this IS the case. Secondly you cannot get this pan hot enough to cook/sear meat. Remember non stick pans are not supposed to be heated to high heat. It does clean up well that is all I can say for it but if you have a flat bottomed non stick pan you have the same thing. Go to the store and look at these pans before you buy this one. In order to get grill marks on a piece of meat you need that meat to be held up by the ridges and a grill pan should let the grease drain to the bottom, this pan absolutely does neither. The one plus is you can actually saute onions in the pan after you cook the steak which you can't do in a REAL griddle pan, I know because I gave this pan away and purchased a proper cast iron grill pan and steaks taste like they are supposed to, GRILLED! Not FRIED or BOILED in their on FAT!!

Calphalon Tri-Ply 12-Inch Stainless Steel Everyday Pan with Cover

Calphalon Tri-Ply 12-Inch Stainless Steel Everyday Pan with CoverThis pan is somewhat bigger than I expected. The side walls spread out from the base a little more than it seems to look in the picture, but it's a fantastic pan. It's heavy and the base fits perfectly on the largest element of my electric stove. Looks great and fits in with the rest of the Tri-Ply line. The clear lid is great for watching the status of what's cooking without interrupting it. It's large enough to brown at least 3 pounds of ground beef with plenty of room to spare, so capacity should not be a concern at all. You could probably fry 4 medium size chicken breasts or maybe 5 pork chops at once without crowding the pan. I just got this pan, but I expect to use it quite a bit.

Great multi-purpose pan.I switched from Caphalon non-stick cookware to Caphalon's stainless steel after the non-stick surface became worn (which is really unsafe given the chemicals used for the non-stick coating).Anyways, it's a little bit of an adjustment going from non-stick to stainless steel. When you use non-stick, one becomes used to not having to use much oil and still not having a problem with food sticking to your cookware. With stainless steel, I think the trick is to pre-heat your stainless steel pan, cook at a little bit lower setting, and you'll figure out it's just as good as non-stick.My everyday Caphalon works great after I figured out how to use it...cleans easy too. After cooking, I just pour a little water in the pan and let it soak for 30 mins and anything stuck on the pan just comes right off.I also use Bar Keeper's friend cleanser and this stuff cleans it perfectly.

Buy Calphalon Tri-Ply 12-Inch Stainless Steel Everyday Pan with Cover Now

It is the one. It is the most amazing, most gorgeous pan i have ever encountered. It is build very solid, i never felt it was flimsy or breakable. It is nice and large but not so large that it heats unevenly on the burners. It is OVEN SAFEsear the steak, pop in oven, voila you made an awesome steak on a stove top! The ban is not non stick but if you work at the proper heat for the food, heat up the pan, then add your oil/butter and HEAT IT UP TOOthe ban is virtually non stick. I can make MOST items in this pan but there are a few items i do prefer to make in a nonstick panlike fry potatoes. For some reason i can not fry potatoes in this, they stick , i ssuspect because the oil gets starchy and in that case a non stick surface is needed.

Bar Keepers friend will keep this pan looking 100% new . It is dishwasher safebut dish washing detergents will make it dull but cleanso i usually clean in dishwasher then follow up with barkeepers friendvoila new pan!.

FYI: I read on another site that you should grease it with a thin coating of oil, in case anyone also read thatPLEASE NEVER DO THIS. Stainless steel is NOT cast iron. It will be gross .

I use this pan several times a week to stir-fry vegetables.I don't have any complaints. You won't get much better than this unless you're willing to spend much much more (such as buying a copper-clad or all copper version), but this pan performs well enough on both gas and electric ranges, I don't think you'd feel a need to.

Just be aware that if you're buying this to add on to an existing set of Calphalon products, it may look slightly different than your other pans (not really a big deal), as Calphalon has a had a few different Tri-Ply variations over the years.

Maxi-Matic EBK-200 Elite Cuisine 3-in-1 Breakfast Station 4-Cup Coffee Maker, White

Maxi-Matic EBK-200 Elite Cuisine 3-in-1 Breakfast Station 4-Cup Coffee Maker, WhiteI was given this 3-in-1 as a gift for my "Man Cave Command Center" as I like to call it. I turned my room into one of the best places where I like to spend time. In my opinion, this little machine is a step up from the kids toy "Easy Bake Oven".

I'm a nurse and since I work nightshift, this machine serves its purpose in my room. Somehow I tend to rush when I go to the kitchen and I lose my mind. But since I have a fridge/freezer combo, and microwave in my room, everything I have is right here. Now that the 3-in-1 is a part of my collection, it makes everything so much simpler.

Some people gripe about how it's so small and that it can't do big items. This wasn't made for that. This was made to be the solution for those living in small spaces. To me, I'm perfectly fine with a small dinner roll to be toasted and eggs to be griddled on top. I find that awesome.

I give this a 5-star because it makes my life a lot better!

Pros:

1. Small in size

2. Griddle works like a charm

3. Coffee maker works fast!

4. Toaster a go-go! Can't go wrong with it!

Cons:

I don't see any in my opinion! I'm a simple person that doesn't need big items to be toasted. A simple dinner roll works for me!

This 3 in 1 Breakfast Machine contains a toaster oven, hot plate, and coffee maker. All the items are smaller than if you bought them separately, but if you are tight on space this is definitely handy.

The toaster oven was probably the biggest negative. It is only wide enough to fit 1 slice of break. Fortunately there is a top burner and a bottom burner so you can stack 2 pieces of bread on top of each other and flip them in the middle of cooking.

I cooked eggs in a basket on the hotplate and it cooked the egg in about 5 or 6 mins.

Pros:

Space Saving

Dial Timer 15 mins max

Can turn on/off top and bottom burner individually

Reusable Coffee Filter

Easy to clean removable hot plate

Comes with baking pan

Negatives:

All components pretty small, can't toast large items

Don't expect to cook for large parties, but if just cooking for yourself not bad.

Timer clicking down can get annoying

Lodge Elements SC90SET 8-Piece Cookware Set, Silver

Lodge Elements SC90SET 8-Piece Cookware Set, Silver ()This 9-Piece Lodge cookware set consists of two sauce pans, a stock pot, two skillets, three lids and a "silicone hot handle holder."

Even as I was unpacking the box in which the set was shipped, I was impressed by the weight of the various pots. This gave me a hint of the quality construction of the set, an that impression was reinforced by a closer inspection of the three glass lids that are included. The lids are solidily constructed and each of them fits snugly into place, their weight ensuring a solid seal with the pot or pan they are designed to fit.

My wife and I first tried the larger of the sauce pans and the first thing we noticed was that the pan's weight seemed to be focused on its bottom. This means that stirring whatever is inside the sauce pans does not result in the pan spinning or turning on the stovetop's burner (a particular problem with the new "slick surfaced" electric stove tops). In preparation of this same meal, we used the deep skillet to cook several chicken breasts and were pleased to find that there are no "hot spots" on the skillet's base, meaning that all the pieces were cooked evenly and nothing was scorched or burned.

My wife, who is a bit of an expert on the handling and care of cast iron skillets, used the one from this set to make one of her traditional cornbreads and was pleased at the way it cooked again, there did not appear to be any hot spots in the skillet that would cause something to cook unevenly. The cornbread was as near perfectly done as any she has ever produced, in fact.

Clean-up of the pieces was what we expected; nothing remarkable in either direction.

Main plusses noted by my wife, especially, include: the steadying second handle on the deep skillet, the extra weight centered on the sauce pan bottoms, the see through pot lids, the graduated measurement markings on the insides of the pots, and the overall quality construction of the set. This is our first exposure to Lodge cookware, but we are suitably impressed, and would most certainly purchase this brand in the future.

I could not WAIT for this set to arrive! I love cast iron, and I have been researching every cookware set I come across to try to make a decission. Part of me didn't like the prospect of comparing a new cast iron to my generational one that is well loved and well aged. This newcomer exceeded expectations. It came from the manufacturer pre-seasoned, and had instructions to wash and oil it before first use, and to re-oil it after every wash. I followed directions (Im good at that) :) and cooked my first meal in my brand new cast iron. My food came out perfectly done, evenly cooked, and didn't stick at all (I expected the worst)!

Department stores charge too much for too little, and my own indecission didn't help the issue. When I found a set that had a cast iron skillet IN it, I knew I had found the right one!

I did contact Lodge to ask some questions first. All of their cast iron is produced here in the USA, however, the stainless steel is from China. It is also not 18/10, I think they told me it was 18/8? I cannot find the email. That delayed my decission a bit...I feel like in this economy, we should be supporting our own country. However, because the cast iron IS US made which did in the end have enough pull (paired with the other reviews, and a drop in list price on Amazon) to sway my decission.

The set arrived very promptly. I have already begun using it, and I am very pleased with how it performs so far. The pans and lids all fit together well, and unlike many other sets, all of the pans are a convenient, and useable every day sizes. The largest pot lid fits the cast iron skillet well. All of the pieces have a good solid feel to them, and a comforting weight. Total win.

()These pots and pans are very sturdy and well crafted. They heat up quickly (water boiled in something like five minutes! My old pot I had to wait close to twenty!). The cast iron skillet comes preseasoned, which is nice. Yes, it does have 8 pieces, technically, but 3 of those are lids. The sizes are pretty well spaced, though I tend to like smaller pots for things like sauces. I also cook for one quite often, and using big pots is just not convenient.

The only con is that the handles are also metal and tend to get a little too warm.

Tools of the Trade Belgique Stainless Steel 14-Piece Cookware Set

Tools of the Trade Belgique Stainless Steel 14-Piece Cookware SetI read reviews and was a little skeptical about whether I wanted these pans or not. What made me want them is their shape. I've had a few pans over my cooking career and pans that are straight up and down have a tendency to burn or stick food at the corner where the bottom meets the sides. A rounded pan sets up a roiling motion as it heats which keeps food/liquid in that area moving so it doesn't stick. I saw these pans by accident and couldn't wait to order them. Then other reviews says to turn the heat way down. Well no kiddin'!! That's because these pans are so efficient with heat that you could cook with them over a candle!! My daughter washed and dried one and then threw some butter in--no heat while she gathered some other ingredients together. She was totally surprised to find the butter melted! There was enough heat left in the bottom to melt the butter without turning on the burner. Anyone wanting to cut fuel costs should invest in these pans. I'd say a solid forth to one third savings could be realized easily. I have two identical skillets--one with copper and one stainless steel. Side by side cooking bacon and the copper bottom one is ready to turn minutes before the stainless steel one. So get the copper bottom ones.

Can't say enough good about these pans. I had no problem getting labels off or soaking to make sure the copper didn't turn dark. However, I don't give a kiss whether the copper stays pretty--I like the way these suckers cook!!

Well, so far so good... I have been using these for a few weeks now and I like them so far. The pots & pans are attractive and a nice weight (not too heavy but not cheap feeling either). I like the silicone on the handles but if you are using anything other than the fry pans they do tend to get a bit hot. I have found cleanup pretty easy and have noticed that if you use a 50/50 vinegar water solution and let it sit for a few minutes you can bring the pan back to new. I Haven't tried the double boiler yet but look forward to doing so soon. I have noticed, as other reviewers have noted, that you do need to adjust your cooking temperature down a bit when using these pans. When cooking meat, you must fight the urge to flip or move the meat around in the pan. The meat releases itself from the pan when it is ready to be flipped. Sounds weird, but it's true. If you try to turn it too soon, it will stick to the pan. This is where cooking with the right heat comes in. If your pan is too hot your meat will stick and burn. If the heat is just right it will cook nicely (beautiful brown crust) and release from the pan. Veggies and sauces seem to cook very nicely as well. Again, use a bit lower heat setting then you use to and a little olive oil in the pan with the veggies. As for eggs, let's just say that some things should just be cooked in a nonstick pan! LOL! All in all I am very happy and hope to be for a long time to come.

I recently bought the 14 piece Belgique set and I could not be happier. These pans cook your food very evenly, they are best cooked over a medium instead of high heat and they look great! If you're looking for a quality set of pans and don't want to spend hundreds of dollarsthese are for you.I never was a fan of glass lids but now I like seeing my food as it cooks and the silicone handles help to keep a good grip on them as you cook. Invest in the barkeepers friend polish and these pans will look awesome for years to come.

My husband and I were in Macy's to look at Emeril's ProClad which they did not have in the store. The salesman convinced me to take a look at this set. He said he used to have a catering business and did all the cooking for his family. He had this set for about a year and a half and really liked it. He told us it was going on sale is a few days so I decided to go home and check the reviews. I had been researching cookware for months and since I wanted to switch to induction cooking I had decided I wanted the higher end from Emeril (I can't afford Allclad). My husband went back and bought the Belqique set for me for Mother's Day. He paid less than half of what I had expected to give for the ProClad. I have been very happy with this cookware. As a previous reviewer noted, these cook so well you don't care what they look like. The attractiveness does catch the eye but it is only the sprinkles on the frosting! I followed suggestions about using lower heat on my current electric stove and they really do cook faster with less energy. And they clean up real pretty;)

Macy's website no longer lists the 14 piece set but hopefully Amazon will get it again. Even at regular retail any Belgique is a good deal. Shop around, find it on sale and you get a steal.

I bought this set because it had every piece I wanted and it was on sale. Washed and used steamer, after I rewashed it noticed several things some brown spots on the bottem of the pan might have been the beginning of metal flaking off not sure. WONT KNOW BECAUSE I NOTICED THAT IN THE LID WATER STAYED BETWEEN THE GLASS AND METAL !!!!DISGUSTING that could cause mold and mildew to be cooked in my food. I washed several more of the lids with the same out come.I did read reviews before buying and there were so many good ones that I had thought maybe the one person that complained about water in the lid just got a defective set. I WAS WRONG !!!Returned and will be spending alot more money on a set of All Clad.Would try this set again IF it had metal lids.

Precise Heat 3-1/2-Quart Surgical Stainless-Steel Oil Core Skillet

Precise Heat 3-1/2-Quart Surgical Stainless-Steel Oil Core SkilletOrdered this pan for my wife for Valentines day 2010, which in itself made me a little apprehensive after the birthday vacuum fiasco many years back.

Seems women don't always appreciate getting tools on special occasions. Who knew ?

Arrival: Double boxed and well protected, the wife carefully opened the containers. Enclosed was a beautiful pan wrapped in a protective plastic bag and dripping in oil. Oh-Oh, recalling a few closing reviews about leakers.

Not to worry, the instructions mention washing in hot, soapy water to remove oil residues from the manufacturing process. OK then..still, why make such a beautiful product and not take the time to clean it a bit ?

Anyway, we cleaned it and re-arranged cupboards to give it a safe place from dings. Put it away until today when we pulled it down to cook a few hamburgers.

Some of the write ups mentioned a lack of heat control accuracy as well as extended time to heat so I instrumented the new pan by inserting a digital thermometer probe through the lid vent and set a digital kitchen timer to count up.

Pan on. Temp rise was pleasingly quick about 11 minutes from room temp to 350 F. The pan kept going...and going...at 405 F ( remember, it's set to 350) oil begins leaking out of the top rim and the handles where expansion vents are located. I chicken out and turn dial to 250.Now 13 minutessince pan on temp is 425 F and still climbing. I turn the dial to off , power light stays on. Oil continues to leak. I continue to wipe.It continues to heat. Finally it begins to smoke. Temp now 441 F. Pulled the plug and used the stove to cook our burgers.

A beautiful pan ruined by poor manufacturing quality control, a real shame on them. I won't be trying anything from Precise Heat again until I've heard they got their act together.

Needless to say, this is going back. I ordered thru Amazon rather than one of the less expensive on-line stores just in case this happened, it turns out now to have been a wise choice. Amazon makes returns easy and covers the return shipping too.

An electric skillet is a much underrated kitchen helper. Many benefits to it, including that it controls the heat and you can leave it unwatched. I own this skillet in a vacation house. Now I will buy it at Amazon for much less than I paid for the first one. This skillet is the best I have ever seen or used. It is heavy, cooks well (you do have to get used to the heat levels), cleans like a dream, goes through the dishwasher perfectly.

What I was most impressed with was the overall quality of the product.. made like a tank will probably last forever. There are other issues. When you cook with my pan all your cooking oil goes over to one side.. not sure if it's the feet or the pan surface itself that's not level. I just move stuff around a bit to make sure everything gets coated with cooking oil. There's definately a peak in the middle of the pan that causes every thing to run to the sides.Once your done be very careful moving the pan .. the internal oil is still hot and the outer surface of the pan will still be very warm after several minutes of being unplugged.Cleaning this pan is not easy. The instructions say not to use steel wool products. I've been using water and baking soda and letting pan heat back up and boil this solution to loosen any food still in the pan. Then let it cool a bit before attempting to clean with a rag. Also the temperature gauge is not in the right place on my pan.. I have to just guess what temperature I'm cooking at... you'll need to work with the temperature settings to make sure you don't get things too hot. The temp light goes out when the temperature has reached the setting on the dail... not just when the pan is on.

This Skillet is really practical, not only does it maintain and even heat distribution, it can get really hot which is great for searing meats.I enjoy the convenience of using this to reheat foods, put on low setting for a few minutes -no need to have to watch the pan.It is also a fine vegetable steamer.I just got it and have used it everyday since then!

I love the fact that it does not have any non stick teflon in it which is why I chose this product. It also cooks very even and is a nice depth to make a meal in.

The only 2 downfalls with it are it is very heavy ( I guess that is understandable since it has oil in the bottom)and it does not get hot enough to fry potatoes quickly and crisply.I just may need a little more getting used to it.

I would highly recommend it on the fact of NO TEFLON.
