PRESTO COOL TOUCH GRIDDL

PRESTO COOL TOUCH GRIDDLI love making pancakes. In the past I would use two large cast-iron skillets for the task. I found myself constantly adjusting my burner temperature and I would always get a few very dark (or burnt) or a few undercooked pancakes out of each batch. Plus I could only cook two pancakes at a time; one in the center of each skillet (I like making large, perfectly round, 5-6" diameter pancakes.)

After much research, I finally broke down and bought the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle because I liked the enormous cooking area it offered. And I liked the fact that is was made of heavy cast aluminum and that it sat perfectly level (some griddles have sloped cooking decks to allow grease and juices to run away from the foods... NOT desirable when making pancakes or scrambled eggs.) And I liked how the griddle can be quickly adjusted so that it WILL tilt forward which *does* allow grease to run away when you want it to! (it has a grease channel and catch-tray along the front edge of the unit.)

My first impressions with this unit:

It's huge! 18.5" x 15" cooking area.

It heats evenly. My infrared (IR) non-contact thermometer gun showed very little temperature variation across the cooking surface once it was fully heated (I let the thermostat cycle several times -about 10 minutes -before I took my readings.) My pancakes verified this finding with each one being equally browned.

The thermostat is accurate. I set the unit to 350-degrees F., and it heated to 350-degrees F. as verified by my IR thermometer gun.

The raised lip around the sides and back of the unit is high enough to contain pancake batter and keep it from spilling over and is low enough to be completely unobtrusive.

After un-boxing the unit, I cleaned, plugged, and turned on the unit (set for 350-degrees F.) After a 10 minute warm up, I applied my pancake batter. As noted earlier, in the past I was only able to make two pancakes at a time using two separate skillets. The Presto griddle allowed me to cook 6 (yes, SIX!!) of my large pancakes at the same time. All six pancakes browned evenly with no hot or cold spots seen. Flipping the pancakes was a breeze and I used no oil on the non-stick surface.

I made two batches of pancakes, one batch after the other, and both turned out exactly the same... and that was "perfectly." I made a two batches of pancakes (12 pancakes total) in the same amount of time it took to make 4 in the past. For the first time my whole family ate pancakes together at the same time!!

So, in summary, the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle is well designed, easy to use, heats accurately and evenly, and has a very large cooking surface. Clean-up was quick and easy. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs a large griddle.

NOTE: Regarding a few other reviews here, I don't see how anyone can rate this product 2 or 3 stars, faulting the unit because it's too large to store. I mean, come on!! It's a big griddle by DESIGN!! If it's too large for you, then you should have bought a smaller griddle! ;-)

I bought this item for my Husband's birthday and we both adore it!I feared it might be one of those things you buy but don't actually use.I was so wrong! It cooks evenly and has a huge surface. The option to slant the surface means that fats and juices drain away so that pancakes can be cooked alongside bacon, for example, without soaking up the bacon grease. The low sides make it easy to get a spatula under whatever you may be cooking. The variable temperature settings make cooking delicate foods so easy, and clean up couldn't be simpler since it has a non-stick surface.I love this griddle!

This griddle is wonderfully big and easy to clean.Just wipe off and store away.I love how I can cook the entire familys' pancakes almost all at once.(9 at a time). I can throw on some sausage links, and some fried eggs as well with out dirting up another pan. This is the pan if you want a one stop breakfast. The burners cook evenly thoughout the surface and pancakes come out golden perfect!.I love it.The only drawback to this griddle is that it only goes up to 400 degrees. So if you want to really brown something its not going to happen unless you leave it on there for a long time.Other than that we absolutely think its the "dogs bark".So to speak, you know the "cats meow" but we are a dog family.Be healthy.

I've never seen a griddle that had a bigger coldspot in the middle.. it may heat up evenly, but the middle will go stone cold if you put anything even slightly cold on it.

chicken or beef will cause the temp to drop from 400 to 250 in matters of a second.

I wouldn't wish this griddle on anybody

I read Blue Crab Steve's review, and it was very helpful and informative. I purchased this griddle several months ago, and I wanted to use it for awhile before I submitted a review, although his comments are much better than mine.

OK, the good news is, this griddle is BIG!The bad news is, this griddle is BIG! That's not really a complaint. It's just a little hard trying to figure out how to store it. I have a small kitchen so I just store the griddle in the box it came in and tuck it in between my fridge and the wall. Also washing the griddle presents a challenge, as my sink is small, but I manage. The non-stick surface is really easy to clean, and I'm careful to use only silicone-coated or nylon utensils on it to preserve the surface.

Now for the good news. The large cooking surface allows one to cook multiple items at one time. I find that the edges get a little hotter than the middle, but I've learned to work with it. I've had electric griddles in the past, but this one is by far the best!

At first, I wondered if I would actually use the griddle often enough to justify purchasing it. But as time goes on, I find that I'm pulling it out often to cook so many things. It's just so convenient to be able to cook almost a whole meal on it at once.

The bottom line here is, I can't imagine who wouldn't love this griddle. I am very pleased with it so far, and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have an electric griddle with a large cooking surface. A wonderful addition to any kitchen!

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto Grill

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto GrillThe family and I were taking a road trip through New Mexico when I got that sudden and familiar urge: I need ham. I had my wife Laura grab a nice, thick ham steak from the cooler at her feet. She offered to grill it for me, as I was driving at all, but in my family there's only one person that handles the grill, and that is me. My daughter Layla and my son Cody said they wanted hot dogs, so I threw them on the grill too.

Despite having different meat products, the Koolatron was cooking the ham and hot dogs evenly, and there was so much space I could have put another dog on there. I took my ham steak off first and it was really good: the Koolatron allowed the meat to retain much of its moisture and succulence.

Unfortunately, just as I was giving the hot dogs one final turn, I lost control of my vehicle, on I-40 about 30 miles west of Tucumcari. I don't remember much of the accident, just waking up in a hospital bed a few days later. It was then that I learned that Layla and Cody did not survive the crash. Laura was relatively unscathed, with only a broken leg and some broken ribs. I suffered burns over 40% of my body and had internal bleeding.

I got out of the hospital three weeks later. Laura and I decided to sell our home, as it held too many painful memories. It was bad. Laura and I found we couldn't live together, and recently divorced. The loss of the kids had a lot to do with it, but I could also not please her (my genitals had been burned off in the fire). I'm trying to date again, but it's been hard (as mentioned, I have no genitals it's like a Ken doll down there, but with the skin complexion of Freddy Kreuger).

However, once given the doctor's ok to operate a motor vehicle, I purchased another Koolatron and I can tell you that I've been happy with the (non-family destroying) results. Every time I cook something while driving a ham steak, hot dog, burger, etc it come out delicious and juicy. Of course, I'm no dummy and realize that another accident is just around the corner. But at this point, I don't even care anymore. I don't even care anymore.

PROS: lots of room, food retains moisture and doesn't dry out, durable

CONS: subsequent loss of family, genitals

I work for a utility company and I work out in the field. So I spend about $250 a month on lunch usually fast food or at a diner depending on the area I am at. Then I came across this grill. I thought wow I could to save some money using this grill. Got the grill followed the instruction and the hot plates were only warm to the touch. I did not even try to cook with it because it was just not hot enough.

For centuries, man has longed for the ability to cook while driving. With the advent of the Koolatron 401-596 (I can only imagine the countless hours focus groups must have logged to come up with that name), that dream has finally become a reality.

No longer constrained to the physical boundaries of a 'kitchen', or the archaic mores of 'safety', one can finally enjoy the freedom of careening down the highway at 85 mph (please check with your local municipality for the legality of these speeds) while grilling various meat products. And what of the oils from said meat products? Why, the sloped design allows them to just melt away into the (included) drip tray! What could be safer than hot grease in a moving vehicle? Certainly, no one has ever spilled anything liquid in a car before! Safe as milk, it is!

So free yourself from the tyranny of non-mobile cooking today with a Koolatron 401-596.

I brought this for my OTR driver and he loves it. I will cook hot grill cheese sandwiches and grill hot dogs in 5 minutes. He is wanting to try cooking a steak to see how that turns out! I am happy to know that now he can have hot food and healthy eating while out on the road. I do recommend this grill and so does he!

Apparently this product hasn't gotten any better in the three years since the previous gentleman review it. I purchased this for my fiance who is a truck driver. I was hoping this would provide him a way of cooking meat/grilling sandwiches, but it only gets hot enough to melt the butter on the bread. Obviously, it wouldn't get hot enough to cook a piece of raw meat. It's being returned. Very disappointed.

Tramontina Limited Editions Barazzoni Full-Clad Copper Exterior Saute Pans

Tramontina Limited Editions Barazzoni 12 Inch Full-Clad Copper Exterior Saute PanI sigh with pleasure when my eye catches my copper-clad Barazzoni pots hanging in my kitchen. The pots are beautiful and they perform excellently. They have an elegant shape; a soft, but sturdy feel to the handles, and they have a nice weight--not light-weight, but not too heavy to lift or maneuver either. The line is called "Butterfly" and it was designed by Claudio Bellini. They feel good. The cool-to-the-touch handles are made of oxidized metal that creates a dull black finish that compliments and highlights the gleam of the copper. The handles are on the slim side, but they still work fine for my long, thin fingers.

I am reviewing the 3.5 quart-size pan that is one of the sizes available here.It has a handled lid, and besides the long handle on the pan, there is also a "helper" handle on the opposite side.Looking at the pictures, it might not be obvious to see: The lid is shiny stainless steel with the same dull black handle as the pot.

I bought this size because I love my Calphalon Contemporary non-stick 13" diameter, deep-sided skillet. This pan is basically the same size.I really like the high walls--seems to serve my purpose more often than my low-sided 12" skillet.I also like the way the pots angle in slightly at the top--the shape seems to help hold and distribute the heat. I have a Viking gas cook top that does not allow a very low simmer flame and with this line of pots I can achieve a small, very slow bubble simmer that I usually cannot create and maintain.

How to clean? Cleaning these copper pots is a breeze if you use Wright's Copper Cream.Wright's Copper Cream Polish, 8-oz. This is a great product that never scratches (always make sure your sponge is clean and your pot is already washed.) "Elbow grease" is not necessary either, if you don't wait too long between treatments. You can clean a copper pot in a minute or two.

With this Barazzoni Butterfly line, I do not believe that quality or performance could be affected by pot size--they will all work wonderfully well. And the lip is the same on the entire line, so they should all be "dripless".

Unsurpassed in utility, quality, usefulness and beauty. If you can afford the price, buy as many as you can find magnificent.

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 11-by-9-Inch Rectangular Skillet with Cast-Iron Flat Press, Oran

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 11-by-9-Inch Rectangular Skillet with Cast-Iron Flat Press, OrangeI have always wanted to try this cookware but truthfully have been too cheap! I finally got this particular pan and am in love with it! I will be expanding my collection soon I hope. For the first 2 weeks this pan was literally always on the stove. You can cook anything in it and clean up is awesome. The press helps cook meats faster than I've ever seen! Bacon goes from the fridge to crisp in literally 2 minutes! It makes awesome scambled eggs too. I cannot say enough good things about it. You have to try it to believe it!

I really like bacon but I've always had a hard time with getting it to cook evenly, that's why I purchased this pan.It really does a good job with heating evenly and the press keeps the bacon flat on the pan so the ends don't curl up and then not cook.I've also discovered that because of it's shape and non stick properties, it does a great job on french toast because you can put 4 slices in the pan at once and just like the bacon, it cooks evenly. My only complaint is that the handle on the press should have been made so that it doesn't conduct heat. After a while you have to use an oven mit to pick up the press. If the handle could be made to stay cool, I would have given it 5 stars.

I am using this about four times as often as I anticipated, sometimes with the press, which works great, and sometimes without.Amazing the versatility that the shape of the skillet provides. Heavy, but not crippling.;)I don't think anyone would have regrets about this purchase.

After using this for a little over six months, I can honestly say there are both good things and not-so-good things.Love the size and shape that's the primary reason for purchasing. We used this skillet on average twice a week for cooking bacon and cook on a smooth cooktop surface. At this point, our primary dissatisfaction is that the center of the skillet has bowed inward a bit.Now the bacon in the center 4-5" of the skillet burns before the ends of each piece are completely cooked.Because we thoroughly allow cooking utensils to return to room temperature before washing them and always wash them by hand, this should not have happened. The bacon press is nice and heavy and does its job well. When using the bacon press, the bacon cooks much more evenly.I will probably try another brand of skillet to see if there's something out there that will hold up better.

Mauviel Mcook Collection Round Frying Pan, Stainless Steel

Mauviel M'Cook 5213.24 9.5 Inch Round Frying Pan, Cast Stainless Steel HandleNone of the stores around me carry it so I didn't get a chance to hold it--I bought it based on reviews and the Mauviel name. I really don't like the way this thing feels in my hand. The handle is too thin, and that makes it difficult to maneuver. And this is considering that I have small hands.

I've only cooked about 3 times on it, and it's already starting to develop some marks (no I'm not overheating the pan). Washing with a nylon (green) scrub pad leaves all kinds of swirly scratch marks. I have cast iron grates on my gas range, and just lightly moving this pan around leaves scratch marks on the bottom.

Yes it cooks evenly, and if you know what you're doing you won't have any sticking problems, but I don't think it performs any better than a standard forty-dollar tri-ply. I am less than impressed with its durability, considering its price.

I would consider other brands like All Clad, CIA, or even Calphalon.

Diamant Stone fryng pan cm. 32

Diamant Stone fryng pan cm. 32While in Italy, 2 months ago, this beautiful, sleek cookware caught my eye and I purchased a couple of pieces. After cooking with it, I ordered this skillet and another piece as well. It's attractive, with black metal and rich wooden handle, which comes off so the pieces can be used in the oven. It's heavy and heats evenly, but not as heavy as cast iron.It cooks beautifully and I love to cook, soquality cookware is important to me, as are my Henckle knives . . . . .so you know what level of quality I use. They are non-stick and cleanup is a breeze.I have only had my initial pieces for two months, so I do not yet know how well the interior finish will hold up, but I have high hopes and plan to purchase more and complete the set !

Le Creuset Classic Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Piece Cookware Sets

Le Creuset Classic Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Piece Cookware Set, FlameThis is by far the best cookware available. My advice, READ the manual before using if you are not familiar with the way cast iron cooks. I made the mistake of turning my burners to high heat when they function on low to medium! You will burn your food and ruin your pan if you use the high heat! Other than that (which is entirely my fault for not reading) this is so nice to have in my collection. This set is perfect to round off a cookware set.

I bought the Dune set on a lightning deal. The 5.5 qt oven had a pitting problem. Two deep pits on the bottom interior surface and many minor pits on the outside. It would be a second in the Le Creuset outlet. I contacted Amazon and they were great and sent out a replacement set, not only the oven. The second set had one pit mark on the interior side of the 5.5 qt so I keept it and sent the rest of the second set back with the first pitted 5.5 qt oven. It was a pain since the box weighs 40 pounds. Amazon did well by me but Le Creuset needs better quality control.

P.S. I lost out on the bonus since I had to order lightning fast to get the deal, so be prepared if you are tracking this set for a deal.

Had this saved in my cart for about a year, and it finally hit a price point that was too good to pass up.A great complement to the 5-piece set I had purchased last year.I have not seen any pitting. Each piece will get a workout in my kitchen.A great set for those who are looking to upgrade their cookware.Satin Dune might not be the most exciting color, but it will blend in with most "standard" kitchen decor.I'm not big on everything being perfectly color matched (I have Le Creuset items in about 3 different colors now), but I know it is a consideration for some.Be sure to watch for special offers, as they come up often.

Lodge Pro-Logic P12SGR3 Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Square Grill Pan, 12-inch

Lodge Pro-Logic P12SGR3 Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Square Grill Pan, 12-inchPurchased this pan to sear roasts before transferring to the oven.I am very happy with the size, the design, and the heft.

The pan measures 12 inches square and includes grill ridges that extend almost to the edge of the cooking surface. The cooking surface has a 3/4-inch tall lip surround. The main handle and assist handle are well sized for the pan and seem sturdy. This pan is heavy.

The pre-seasoning on this pan is pretty decent, but is not as smooth as the type of seasoning you would get after years and years of use. However, it's a good start -I figure it'll smooth out over time.

When I use this pan, I toss in some salt between the ridges before I put the meat on the pan.The salt helps to absorb and prevent juices, etc. from sticking between the ridges (makes for easier cleanup). And since the salt is between the ridges, the meat never gets salty. Also, I let this pan heat up for a good five minutes before searing.

Cooking with Cast Iron is great, but only if you use it under the correct circumstances.

One of the reasons Cast Iron still has a use in the kitchen is that it has an extremely high heat capacity -higher than any other metal used in the kitchen -once you get the pan hot, it stays hot (even if you drop in a cold steak). If you need a pan that can quickly respond to changes in temperature, I'd recommend getting a Stainless Steel pan.

Another point to remember is that Cast Iron is not truly "non stick" -no matter how much you season it, or how "pre-seasoned" the pan is (or how much the manufacturer claims it is).It is, however, "stick resistant" provided the pan is seasoned and you use enough fat (butter, oil, lard, etc.) while cooking. If you require a non stick surface, then you're probably better off with an Anodized Aluminum pan.

The only down side to using Cast Iron is cleaning it.Cast Iron should never be washed with detergent and should NEVER be washed in the dishwasher. The reason for this is simple -detergents cause the seasoning to disintegrate. The seasoning on a Cast Iron pan is nothing more than polymerized fat (fat that is solidified in the presence of heat) -it sounds gross, but its perfectly normal.

I use salt to clean my Cast Iron. After I'm finished cooking, I let the pan cool a bit (to the touch), scrape/wipe out the residue, then rinse it under warm water. Then I pour in a thick helping of table salt and use the backside of a (rinsed) scour sponge to grind the remaining residue out (the salt works like sand paper and doesn't destroy the seasoning).I rinse the pan and repeat with the salt until the salt crystals stay relatively white.Once the cleaned pan is rinsed and dried, I warm it for a few minutes on the stovetop and apply a little oil with a paper towel. The pan is now ready for storage.

Having used and enjoyed the 10 inch fry pan shaped Lodge Pre-seasoned grill pan, I hoped to duplicate the experience in a larger capacity Lodge grill pan.

Much to my disappointment, I found the 12 inch pan to be lacking. The grids are more shallow and closer together.

They don't have the sharpness of the 10 inch pan, thus leaving indistinct grill patterns on the meat.

It cooks well enough but really can't compare with the results achieved in the old 10 inch pan.Sorry for the purchase.

the salmon I grilled on this pan was superb crisp outside and moist inside. I especially like the dimensions of this pan, it would fit 5 or 6 portions of chicken or fish easily.

However, I wouldn't recommend this for use in kitchens that do not have a high speed fan, as it does throw a lot of smoke. I have a 900 cfm rangemaster fan which handles the task quite well.

My husband loves everything cooked on grill, it's nice to do in summer time, but i really don't know how to do in winter until i found this pan.

This pan is wonderfully pre-seasoned, after i got it i just washed it in hot water, after it dry completely, i spray some vegetable oil, and then it's ready to use.

everything cooked in it got beautiful seared-mark, just as it cooked on BBQ grill. Taste so good, even u can feel summer in winter. the meat sit on the ribbed bottom and the extra fat can be taken out easily.

This pan is so easy to clean, just use hot water, then wipe it dry, spray some oil before store it.

Let's face it, grill pans are great in theory, but reality sometimes falls short. This is my fourth grill pan.It is the second hardest to clean, but it's a workhorse.I've tried turkey bacon, tuna and chicken breasts on it -all with moderate success.I've just purchased a grill press, which I think will make me love the pan more.

I like it because it's cast iron, although I agree with others that it heats unevenly. It does give you good sear marks. The pre-seasoning works OK, not as well as in my pre-seasoned skillets.I know it will get better with time.

I have yet to find a grill pan that didn't give me problems.I loved my cast aluminum, until the nonstick coating wore off.The ridges in my All-Clad pan are too round to get good marks and because it's nonstick, I can't use high heat. This one, dare I say, is the best of the bunch. The only two materials I haven't tried are enameled cast iron and anodized aluminium.

If you're looking for an average product that will last forever, this is it.I'm not sure perfection exists in a grill pan.

The reason I ordered this item was so I could prepare sausage, whipped eggs and biscuit sandwiches for breakfast on the go. These little beauties are the perfect size. Just line them up on the burner, pour in the eggs, and cook on low/med heat. The sausage can either be pressed into and cooked in the miniature skillets as well, or used the skillets as a press so the sausage will be the same size as the egg. Cook while you bake the biscuits. This and a small slice of cheese and you have a mouth full of heaven on the way to work. Sure, it's a specialty item and probably not one you'd use for everything...but then again that's part of the fun of cooking. BTW, love the garlic idea

If you have a slew of kids than those non-stick baking rings may be your answer. They tell you it is only 3 inches wide, so don't be like this one lady who bought it anyway and then gave a negative review on how small it was. Retro Panini Grill

Retro Panini GrillIt works perfectly well.I have two minor complaints. One is that there is no real on/off switch. If you have it plugged in, and the heat dial at minimum, it still heats. That's important to be aware of.It's not your ordinary toaster, which doesn't do anything unless you push down the slider.Second problem is MUCH less important. The clip that's supposed to hold the top and bottom together in storage is totally worthless.Just don't depend on it.

That being said, it works very nicely as a panini press. The lid is flexible, and has a heat proof spot where you can tilt it to accomodate the thickness of your panini. The heat dial is generally accurate, so if you follow your instincts or the little cookbook, things turn out well. It's easy to clean up.I don't have enough room on the counter to let it out, but like most DeLonghi stuff, the style is very nice.

West Bend 72212 Electric Extra-Deep Square 12-Inch Nonstick Skillet

West Bend 72212 Electric Extra-Deep Square 12-Inch Nonstick SkilletI have owned this for about two weeks and have used it almost everyday. Not only can you use it as you would any other skillet -I have used it to make baked potatoes; "baked" frozen entrees, and have found recipes for cakes, coffee cakes and even pizza. Can't wait to try all these new ideas. The kitchen doesn't get heated up in the summer, thus keeping the air conditioning from working hard. Some things take a little experimenting, but it all seems to work out in the end.Frozen products need to be watched the first time to make sure they are totally cooked. My only suggestion to West Bend would be to offer a grid to fit in the skillet.Great product -great price!!

I bought this skillet because of the size (not too big for just two of us), the high walls, and the glass cover. The two positive reviews influenced my decision, though I did notice that the larger version of this same skillet had more negative reviews.

I'm calling Amazon today and returning the skillet. The primary purpose was for frying, however, the temperature doesn't get hot enough of stay hot enough to fry.The temperature dial goes up to 400.I wanted to make donuts, which call for a temperature of 375 degrees. When the light when off I put the donuts in, fried them golden brown, drained them, and taste tested them. They tasted like oil. From the instructions on the donut mix I found out that tasting like oil meant the oil wasn't hot enough, and therefore the crust on the donut wasn't formed quickly, and the donut gets oil soggy.I got out my handy candy thermometer and took the temperature of the oil. It was not hot enough, so I turned the dial to 400, hoping it would reach 375.The light came on and the oil heated up to 360, and the light went out.In another minute the light came on and the oil went up to 364, and the light went out. This cycle repeated, and the oil reached a high temperature of 369, but then dropped down to 361.That was as hot as I could get it.I verified the temp readings with a digital thermometer, still below 370 when set at 400 (the max). Can't fry donuts, so going back.

I have an old electric skillet that belonged to my mom, but it's stuck deep in storage and I needed a skillet in a pinch. It was easier to buy one than to go foraging through dozens of dusty boxes.

I wish I'd spent the time to go foraging. This is NOTHING like the 40-year-old electric skillet my mom used while we were growing up.

Con: The skillet has the poorest heat distribution I have EVER seen.Any food sitting directly on the heating element will cook much faster than food elsewhere in the skillet.Hence, it will stick and burn. (That was NEVER the case with my mom's old steel skillet.) I tried scrambling eggs in this skillet and before the eggs away from the heating coil could even begin cooking, the ones on the heating coil were turning brown.Same thing went for pancakes and potato cakes.I even tried hamburger helper in this skillet only to have to babysit it to constantly stir it to keep it from sticking.

Con: The simmer setting is a joke.Again, food sticks where the heating coil is.

Pro: Incredibly easy to clean.

Pro: Nice lid, decent construction. The skillet itself is lightweight, but doesn't feel flimsy.

Would I buy it again? No.I'll use it for light duty until it dies.I know it won't last 40 years, that's for sure. And I know with the poor heat distribution that cooking the pot roast my mom always made in her electric skillet is out of the question.

Overall grade: DI would not recommend this.

I find this skillet to be somewhat disappointing in that it is difficult to control the temperature evenly. Also, the depth of the skillet is a little inconvenient and unnecessary for most dishes.

I would not buy this again.

When trying to find a frypan on Amazon, the 12-inch by 12-inch selection was VERY limited.Unfortunately, I chose the West Bend 72212.What a disappointment!

The FIRST thing I noticed was that when the oil was poured into the frypan . . . it ran down into a pool in the center of the frypan instead of spreading evenly across the bottom.

The SECOND thing that happened, after only four uses, was that the frypan woggled and I discovered that one of the inserted rubber feet had fallen out . . . never to be found ANYWHERE!

The THIRD and final strike concerns the temperature control.Whomever designed the control should lose their job. For example:the temperature numbers are all in a row 300 350 400 around the perimeter, with NO slashes between them. You had to GUESS where you were in a specific 50 degree range.MOST controls have a slash between numbers to separate them and to denote the temperature range, or to indicate the mid-ranges of 325, or 375 degrees.

Then there was deciding exactly where you actually were on the control. It was a mad guess because the indicator light is ROUND and not 'arrow' shaped with a point to determine the relationship to the numbers on the dial.

The control was so wonkie that no matter WHAT temperature you selected it turned off for no reason, so you had to constantly raise the temp to keep the food frying.Example:I finished frying the bacon and in order to cook the potatoes I had to keep increasing the temperature.I ended up turning it up to 400 degrees to finish browning them. After removing the potatoes, the light when out.THEN after dropping FIVE cold eggs into the frypan for scrambling, the light took FOREVER to re-light, indicating it was trying to get up to temperature. What the heck???

So . . . this frypan is going to the dump because it's not worth the effort to box it up, take it to the post office, pay the freight and to deal with the hassle of shipping it back, without all four rubber feet.I certainly couldn't, in good conscience, give it to someone else with its many problems.

If I could, I would give this frypan a MINUS 5 stars!

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware Set

All-Clad 5000-9 Stainless 9-Piece Cookware SetFor a good even heat, excellent quality of workmanship, and a dependable name, I can't think of anything better than All-Clad.For years, I used cheap cookware store non-stick skillets and hand-me-down pots and pans my mother used when she first got married. What a difference it makes.

Most cookware is way too thin, which leaves you with hotspots. For years, I would make up for this by using a cast iron "defuser" to even out the heat and keep the direct flame off the bottom of the pan.I don't have to do this any more. With the triple-layering, you get even heating, regardless of whether it's the middle of the pan or the outer edge.

Personally, I like the stainless.MC2 wasn't around when I bought mine, and I might have chosen that because of the low-maintanace exterior, but I'm not regretting it either.I don't have to be worrying about scratching through the coating with it and it cleans up easy enough with a little water and even less elbow grease.

Cooking will always be a chore, even if you enjoy the act in itself, if you never invest in good cookware and good knives. This is the first step on at least one of those. You might also wish to add a double-boiler, the steamer insert and a 1 qt. saucier; and maybe a larger stock pot (12 qt. if you can afford it), but this really lets you hit the ground running.

i've been using this set for over three years now, and have been very happy with it.

durability:no issues with handles coming loose, etc.almost all of the pans have remained even completely ding/dent free.my only complaint is that the bottom of one pan has domed slightly, so the pan does not lay completely flat on the burner, and heat distribution is affected.so while overall durability has been good, i'm knocking them down a point for this flaw.

cooking:these pans perform well.with the exception of the one mentioned above, all conduct heat evenly.no problem getting good crystalization of fats from meats, or browning vegetables in the oven.i think you definitely need a wider array of pans in your kitchen a nonstick and a cast iron are two i can think of right off the bat as well as some different types of metals for different applications.but this isn't something that you can hold against this product.just understand that this set won't cover ALL your pan needs.

cleaning:i've seen a lot of reviewers talk about how hard it is to clean these pans.it should be noted that pans are harder to clean, and stick more, if they're used less frequently.i think some of the issues people are having is because they're not using the pans frequently enough, or are not cooking foods at the proper temperatures.i've had no problems cleaning these pans.

pricing:aside from my issue with durability mentioned above, the is the only other area i feel detracts from this product.if the price is no object, or you can appreciate the cooking qualities of the pans and need something that looks good, i can see spending the money on this set.and i certianly wouldn't refuse it as a gift!however if you're on the fence about the price, and it's a financial stretch for you, i think you could put together a set of pans that will work just as well for much, much less.professional restaurant supply stores will sell pans that will work just as well as these for much less.they just won't be as pretty.so understand that you don't HAVE to spend this kind of money to get the same results.

so overall i'm happy with these pans.i'm disappointed one has warped slightly i should see if it's eligible for a replacement but aside from that they're great.

I bought this set back in January and must admit, it's gotten a lot of compliments from friends and neighbors. As with anything stainless steel, which is apparently all the rage these days, the look and feel (heavy!) of this cookware is impressive.

The most impressive thing I've noticed so far is the even temperature control throughout all of the pieces I purchased and have used so far.Even when boiling water, you can see at the bottom of the pot that the heat is being distributed evenly, which is a major downfall of most other cookware.

The first downside is that they are, in my experience, a PAIN to clean.Following the manufacturers recommendation to NOT put them in the dishwasher, I have washed them by hand after every use.I highly recommend washing them IMMEDIATELY after use to avoid having to spend a lot of time getting them clean.

The other downside is that I think these pots and pans will work much better on gas cooktops than on radiant cooktops.Fortunately, I'll have gas cooktops again in a few months, but really feel that buyers with radiant cooktops should test out a piece or two before commiting to the whole set.

Other than those two minor downsides, this is a "keep-for-life" set of pots and pans, and well worth the investment.Check out the rest of the All Clad stainless series for other great pieces (highly recommend the omelette pan to complete this set in particular).

This is my second set of All Clad. When I installed a Viking gas cooktop a year ago, I discovered why all the pros use All Clad....my thick-bottomed, thin-walled cookware couldn't take the heat and food burned on the sides rather than the bottom. My darling husband gave me a full set of MC2 and from that point on I was hooked.I have added several pieces via Amazon's great buys, both MC2 and stainless which I love.Mind you, my previous cookware was all non-stick so this was a challenge but once I figured out the proper way to cook I've had no problem with anything sticking and I hardly ever use any fat besides cooking sprays. It's so simple:preheat the cookware! It only takes a minute on medium heat then you can spray the pan and add your food and nothing sticks.Cleanup is a breeze and the stuff is so gorgeous I bought a stainless rack to display it.If you are serious about cooking, buy this set. It's a fantastic deal and it will last a lifetime.I'm betting some of you will even go on to buy a pro-type cooktop or stove after you start using All Clad. It's really true that the right cookware makes all the difference and this is the right stuff!

A chef who works the line in one of New York's best restaurants may tell you that your cookware won't really change the way you cook. That chef, however, may just be jealous you just bought one of the best investments you could ever make. Consider this. The computer you're reading this on probably cost more than 500 dollars. It willlast you, generously, 4 years. The set of All-Clad you just bought also cost more than 500 dollars. It will last you, conservatively, the rest of your life if you take care of it properly.

You can get the pro's and con's from a lot of other reviews and reading material, but I want to share one bit of advice that made the final choice for me. I did hours of online and print research before finally making a choice. I tried matching up individual pieces, compared sets v. non-sets, looked at what I really needed in closer detail, and, lastly, "agonized" between Calphalon and All-Clad.

Why did All-Clad stainless win? I love technology, especially stuff that makes our lives easier (like cleaning). So I was leaning pretty heavily toward Calphalon One for a while (it's even slightly cheaper). But then I came to a quick conclusion one night while eating at a Florentine's house: tried and true, stainless steel can make some incredibly good food. If you're in the market now, as you most likely are considering you're reading this (hopefully), then maybe, like me, you'll think to yourself, maybe I should wait a while for this "One" concept to see how well it lasts. All-Clad will last me my life. Proof positive. And I won't have to be sending any of it in the mail (hopefully).

It wasn't an easy choice, but after just about 5 meals I've cooked in them, my friends are already smiling (and my roommates are incredibly happy). The cleanup (which is what really racked my conscience for a while. I am a college kid at heart who hates to do dishes) is, in all honesty, not AS easy as non-stick, but after a little soaking in soapy water and with the magic of Bar Keeper's Friend, well, done done and doner.

While this may be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase for you, beware, the pans are infectious.

Norpro 9.5 Inch Nonstick Egg Poacher Skillet Set with Removable 4 Egg Poacher

Norpro 9.5 Inch Nonstick Egg Poacher Skillet Set with Removable 4 Egg PoacherThis is a very nice product. The only complaint is that the cups that hold the eggs are molded into the pan.Our last poacher had removable cups with a little tab-like handle. This made it much easier to remove the eggs.

I've tried other egg poachers, but none of them are as good as this. It is well made, sturdy and gives perfect results every time I use it ...which is often. I purchased the Nordic Non-stick 10" egg poacher. A huge mistake, it began losing the non-stick coating after the first use. It became unusable after using it a few times. The eggs cooked unevenly and stuck to the surface even when I used Pam spray or butter. Get this product instead and you will be pleased. I hope this helps.

This poacher works very well and is far superior to any microwave poacher. However, I have noticed after only a couple months use that the bottom of the pot is starting to rust.Does not affect the functionality, but wonder about its durability/lasting.

I've had this pan just over 3 months and have only used it a few times. Already the finish is coming off the bottom of the skillet. It is coated with a very thin layer of nonstick coating, which is not durable at all and not high quality. I have always washed it by hand, not in the dishwasher, so it hasn't been exposed to harsh conditions, other than boiling water on the stovetop. Other than that, the poachers work well, don't stick, and so far are not starting to peel.

As devotees of poached eggs, we have tried a number of poachers. This is the best ever. We use a bit of sprayed oil and have never had trouble with with sticking eggs or clean up. The egg holding tray is up a bit higher above the bottom of the pan than most poachers, which we like. While we were not especially interested in having to buy a whole pan, etc., in this case, we are very glad we did! Enjoy!

T-fal C784SC64 Stainless Steel with Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Dishwasher Safe 12-Piece Cookware Se

T-fal C784SC64 Stainless Steel with Thermo-Spot Heat Indicator Dishwasher Safe 12-Piece Cookware Set, SilverThis is the best set I have ever had...and certainly not close to the most expensive! It really is like the cookware designer sat down with me and asked me what features I would like. Stainless steel pots, nice stainless steel/non-stick pans, glass lids, cool to touch silicone covered handles, large easy to handle cool to touch silicone covered lid handles. I really couldn't ask for more...super happy with this purchase. I would highly recommend :)

I have this set for my single apartment, I love cooking a lot and I use them daily. T-fal quality don't need any words.

Mix of Stainless Steel pots and Non-stick pans is a great idea. I don't need non-stick pots, or stainless steel pans and this is the set I just wanted.

5.5 Qt Dutch Oven is pretty large if you are single and you don't cook for a family. But if you cook in large sizes for the whole weeks meal like me, it is very useful.

Various sizes of sauce pots are very useful for many jobs. If you need to boil some pasta or veggies for a single meal smallest one is enough. Or you can use larger ones for any other cooking.

Non-stick pans with thermo-spot are great. Set has one small and one considerably large pans. I usually use the smallest one for scrambled eggs, or making a burger, or cooking some chicken. You can use the saucepot lids to cover it. It wont fit perfectly but it will do the job. However there is no lid, for the largest pan, which is bad I think. But I get used to it.

Interior for the pans are non-stick and they are stainless steel on outside. Pots are all stainless steel.

Handles are pretty cheap, they are soft plastic, but I didn't burned my hands so far. They will block the heat, however handles on lids are not that good, and if you dont hold them properly, you might get some burns.

They come with a slotted spatula, and huge cooking spoon, they are stainless steel but pretty big ones.

Bottom paddings are good, they are not cheaply made.

When compared to cheap non-stick ones this set might be expensive, but they are very useful.

Boska Holland Toastabags, Set of 3

Boska Holland Toastabags, Set of 3These are enticing the way you toss in bread with cheese, and a few embellishments all so effortlessly. The pocket keeps in warmth from the bread to evenly heat what ever you want for a sandwich. This provides you with getting a grilled consistency and the option for adding variation to the cheese and flavoring. I think the great part is keeping the toaster clean, and also getting the full serving out just like the time before.

These "Toastabags" actually work very well for making grilled sandwiches in the toaster and have the added benefit of being washable and reusable, but there are durability issues. My wife picked these up on sale at a kitchen specialty store to try out since we eat a lot of sandwiches.

These bags are made of a nonstick material that easily holds two slices of bread and the sandwich ingredients of choice. Once assembled, we apply spray butter to the outside of the bread and insert into the bag. The first problem we encountered was fitting the bag into our old standard toaster, but even overstuffed they fit just fine in our shop kitchen's toaster that can also fit bagel halves. While these are advertised to last for up to 50 uses, we had our first one rip after just four sandwiches. Our second one is still going strong after six uses. Perhaps the first one to fail was a fluke, but it was disappointing.

The results are much better than expected, at least for grilled cheese (with or without ham) and Rubens. The outside of the bread gets nicely toasted and the insides are wonderfully "melty" hot.

Other than my concerns about the durability of these, I am very impressed with how well these work!

Recommended!

I was out of town last weekend for a wedding and finally drove back into town Sunday evening. Groceries were scarce in the house. Odds and ends and maybe 2/3 of any recipe, but I did have some bread and some tasty Havarti. I got the Havarti from EmmiRoth in the Boska and Culture Magazine giveaway and I've been eying it since it arrived. Tonight we feast on grilled cheese!

But wait! Didn't I score some new cheesy toy from Boska that I could use too? Victory for the Toastabags! These helped me whip up some easy grilled, excuse me... toasted cheese sandwiches. Unfortunately, since both the bread and cheese came straight from the refrigerator (yes, I'm one of those people who keep their bread in the refrigerator)they didn't melt all the way through. We still had a cool spot in the center. We did try it out the next evening with fresh cheese and bread that hadn't touch our refrigerator and it worked out a lot better.

Great little dandy meal time saving device! Just be sure to get your ingredients to room temp before using.

Really convenient way to make a grilled cheese without the clean-up. You can even add other ingredients in-between the bread and cheese (I put apple slices, Yum!) and the bag holds everything together while melting the cheese and toasting the bread evenly. I use a toaster oven and it keeps the cheese from making a mess dripping everywhere. The best thing about this product was how I could slide the bread and cheese into the toastabag, then slide the bag into a plastic sandwich bag which I put in my lunchbox, and just pop the toastabag into the toaster at work and have an ooey-gooey grilled cheese sandwich in a matter of minutes! I do kinda wish they came in different sizes or shapes, as some of the breads I eat are too cumbersome for the toastabags.

It worked just great, but when I washed it, the fabric tore along the seam. One use. The sandwich came out perfectly, but the product description indicated that it could be used repeatedly.

I can't sew it because the thread wouldn't withstand the heat of the toaster. Shame, because it is such a good concept.

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel Nonstick 12 Inch Griddle

Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Steel Nonstick 12 Inch GriddleThis griddle is more than heavy enough to conduct heat properly while being light enough for my slightly arthritic hands to handle safely. I have a ceramic cooktop and the manufacturer recommends only stainless, copper or glass cookware. It was difficult to find a griddle for pancakes, particularly for a reasonable price, and this griddle fills the bill nicely. It cleans up easily with hand washing but comes out nicely when put through the dishwasher.

This pan was great for about a year then it completely lost its non-stickiness.Coating looks good but everything and I mean everything sticks like glue to the pan.I'd suggest trying someone else's non-stick pan.

I got this mostly for the extra surface area when cooking bacon and it does an okay job with that. The pan is larger than my electric burner and it doesn't distribute the heat to the pan's outer area. If I use it to make pancakes or hamburgers I have to rotate each item 180 degrees so it cooks evenly -if I don't it's burnt on the inside facing edge and not cooked on the outside edge. I expected the "superb conductivity and even heating" to be better. Maybe it works better with a gas burner. It seems sturdy after a few months and is a good non-stick surface.

I have a flat cooktop so this very wide pan is not too much for me.It is not too heavy for me to lift and handwash. The interior finish is a light grey not black like my now chucked Simply Calphalon nonstick pan.I think the stainless steel exterior is important because I hate the chalky feel of the painted exteriors in cheaper Calphalon nonstick cookware.I made stir fry and french toast and this one, unlike the Simply Calphalon did not need too much oil. After one month of light use pancakes mainly there is a chip in the middle of the pan!I emailed the seller for a refund but this is pretty preposterous of Calphalon since this is a higher end pan.One thing about the lighter finish is that you can more easily see when there is a chip.
