IMUSA VICTORIA-85008 Cast Iron Tortilla Press Pre-Cured 8-Inch, Black

IMUSA VICTORIA-85008 Cast Iron Tortilla Press Pre-Cured 8-Inch, BlackI started making my own corn tortillas, and at first used a glass pie pan (put dough inbetween two pieces of zip lock plastic, and then squash with the pie plate.)I would have to press hard, and rotate the round pie dish to get the dough to squish out to the right size/thickness.It worked well, but I was afraid I would break the glass dish and cut myself I had to use so much pressure. It was sort of a rocking swirling motion to get it to press out right. It worked, but I had to lean on the plate too much.I had used a skillet bottom, but you couldn't see how big/thin the tortilla was, so if you don't buy this, try a pyrex pie pan on two plastic sheets of ziplock material.

My husband purchased this press for me, and it is so easy to use.I use two pieces of ziplock plastic, cut to fit the press, and my flour (Masa Harina) has a recipe on the back for 4, 8 and 12 torillas. These make balls about the size of a ping pong ball or golf ball. They squeeze out perfectly every time, and I use no pressure at all.

I have read that there are two types of presses: cast iron and aluminum. The aluminum is lighter, but requires more force. The cast iron is heavy, and comes with a "shiny paint job" that comes off with time, according to internet reveiws, but my dough does not touch the press with the plastic sheets, so this is simply cosmetic in my opinion.I did notice some grease on it, but I assumed it was to keep the product from rusting, being that it is iron....you put oil on your cast iron pans for this purpose. It was minimal oil.

To protect my granite counters, I put felt stick-on feet onto the bottom since it is heavy and iron.May not be needed, but it makes me feel better.I could not be more impressed with it, and I can whip out fresh tortillas in about 2 minutes.I had at first told my husband not to get me one, I'd continue with the pie plate, but now I am thrilled to have it.It is effortless.I hate to see that some people had theirs break, or not make thin tortillas, but I imagine it is just a problem with their particular unit.If my tortillas were any thinner, you couldn't get them off of the plastic sheet. If they were thicker, they wouldn't be "right."Hope that makes sense!I like the press, and hope that it lasts.I received it in November, and have used it almost daily, and it is now in January...I haven't seen any issues with the product in that amount of time.

6 MONTH UPDATE

Product is still working great after 6 months.I am going to try wax paper as was suggested by a fellow Amazon shopper, in lieu of the zip lock.I have slowed down making tortillas, so it is not getting "as much use" as it was, but this is merely for waist-line purposes!I'd make them all day, everyday if I could, without getting as big as an ox.It has held up well, and makes excellent tortillas with ease.

This is an excellent tortilla press. We just recieved one and yes, it is a bit greasy out of the box, but this is not a hinderance. It made very flat, thin, and (most importantly) consistently good tortillas.

In order to avoid contact with the grease (which there from the manufacturing process to prevent the cast iron from rusting not necessarily a bad thing), we took a 1 gallon Ziploc bag (food grade plastic) and cut it at the seams to create two pieces of plastic. We then trimmed the plastic sheets to be slightly larger than the press. This works wonderfully, we only need to peel the pressed tortilla from the plastic sheet and lay it in to the griddle.

We would recommend this press to anyone interested in making their own tortillas, sopes, or other dishes requiring use of a press.

The one I received had little grease on it, not that it would have bothered me much anyway.

It also presses the tortillas paper thin.In fact, I had to be careful not to get them too thin at first.

Recommend lining each side with plastic when pressing. Then transfer pressed tortilla to a piece of wax paper then onto the grill. That's just the easiest way we found to tranfer them.

Served warm with some queso fresca yum!

this product is great, i was reading all the reviews before purchasing and wondered about some reviews, because YES it comes with instructions, they are ON THE BOX , yes there is no extra paper, but why , the instruction is on the box in english and spanish! It recommends also to put a plastic bag/ paper between the press, so the dough will not stick. People who don't read the instructions will have a problem working with the tortilla maker. To get the tortilla off the plastic, you first lift it from one side off, put the plastic back on and flip it over , now you take the plasic of this side off, keep it off, turn it over and take the other already loosened up plastic off, now you can bake it in the pan. This whole procedure is important, so you don't ripp the tortilla since it is thin! frying no oil and about 50 sconds each side, heat up the pan first before you start, it frys better. if you take a piece of dough the size of a golf ball or little smaller, you get about a 5-6 inc tortilla, put the ball a little off centerlike somebody else already recommended more toward the back and the tortilla comes out more evenyou may have to try out a bit remember just when you started playing with play dough? trying out different things?:)One thing is trueit is time consuming, but to do it together as a family is the most fun! My whole family loves it! Hope this review is helpful!

My wife and I are very impressed with this tortilla press. My wife initially got a plastic press from a local store, and it was horrible. It wouldn't flatten out the tortillas at all because it would bend under pressure.

Then we tried the 6.5 inch aluminum press that is also sold here on amazon. It was much better than the plastic one, but we were still disappointed at the size of the tortillas.

This lead us to the 8 inch cast iron press. It's true that it's a little greasy out of the box, but after a quick washing with soap and water, it is good to go.After putting plastic wrap on both pressing surfaces we gave it a try.It presses our tortilla dough as thin as we want it, even too thin if we decide to push it that hard. The size of the tortillas is much better as well.I would recommend this press to anyone that is looking for a quality tortilla press.

Mario Batali By DanskTM "Mario Light" 7" Skillet - Turquoise

Mario Batali By DanskTM 'Mario Light' 7' Skillet - TurquoiseI received this skillet from a friend several months ago and loved it so much I'm buying one for my godmother for Christmas. The skillet is cute as a button and fantastic for small saute jobs. Cooks like cast iron but is non-stick and has that cool blue exterior. Cast iron just got "cool" and "modern". Who'd a thought?

General Electric 169216 Deep 12" x 15" Non-Stick Digital Skillet Black

General Electric 169216 Deep 12' x 15' Non-Stick Digital Skillet BlackWe ate at a friend's house for Sichuan Hot Pot, This skillet is truly a star. It is fast in heating, easy to adjustThe only thing I'm not very happy with it is the cap smells a little bit toxic.

After a while of using it, I discovered some problem with this pot. First of all, it's square, so it's hard to estimate how much water to put in sometimes. A good estimate will be to hit the lowest line.(that's already a lot of water added). Secondly, the teflon coating is easy to scratch, so you probably want to buy a wooden spoon to go with this pot. Thirdly, the cord is really short, it's only an arm's length. Fourthly, it's hard to clean because flipping it over is impossible.

Overall, it's huge pot, it can contain lots of stuff. It's meant for social cooking!

My daughter has one; and wealways use GE products and this one is light weight and easy to use.

I love my G.E. electric skillet (fry pan). The actual depth of the pan itself is 3 1/2", which is great for making homefries. You have plenty of room to flip them without potatoes going everywhere. This is my 3rd G.E. electric skillet. The others still work, but after many years of use they have "retired" as my fish fry pans.My new one stays in the kitchen. Thanks for the quick shipping!!

I'm overall very satisfied with this skillet. It heats evenly and I like that it isn't as thin as the others I've looked at.The temperature control is well designed. My only complaint is why is the cord so short? What's up with that?

Swissmar KF-77043 8-Person Classic Raclette Party Grill, Red Enamel

Swissmar KF-77043 8-Person Classic Raclette Party Grill, Red EnamelThis raclette grill is authentic and functional. For the little space it takes, you can cook a delicious dinner without using other pans. The grilled food tastes like it was cooked at a barbecue grill. The grill on top has slightly higher edges to catch any sauce or liquid from spilling.Cleans very easily. The temperature knob is great.Highly recommended.

We just had our first day with this item... the family loved it! We had a big lunch (the traditional potatoes with cheeses & lunchmeats) then later, used it to make melty desserts like crepes, s'mores & mini tarte flambes (pre-cut toasted tortilla squares with sliced bananas & dark chocolate).

The recipe possibilities are endless. Mini-pizzas, sliders, baked pasta, etc., + the temp control is a good feature.

The product is light and pretty portable. Easy to clean and stow. Best feature I noticed right away; my family was having fun together! We're gonna keep this to ourselves awhile before we share with guests.I highly recommend!!!

I really like the square pans, they're much easier to use than the wedge-shaped ones.Everything is coated in non stick so it cleans up like a breeze. The temperature knob is a nice touch, just watch your fuses, whenever it kicks on my lights flicker. It's a good time for when you want to say to your guests, cook it your damn'd self.

This grill was smaller and flimsier than I had expected, and much more flimsy than the price would imply.Other than that, it seems to work very well, and we have used it several times now.I'd buy it again, as I haven't seen anything better.

We were introduced to raclette by our good friends who threw a great raclette dinner party. She was using this particular one and it was so easy to use and fun that we had to get one ourselves. All of the cooking surfaces are non-stick and easy to clean, and we love the fact that you can adjust the heat on the grill--we usually keep it high early on and then turn it down later.

I was worried that we would use it a couple of times and then it would get put in the closet like so many other kitchen appliances, but we actually use it often. It's great not just for entertaining, but also if we want to make a quick meal at home more special.

Lodge Logic L2SP3 Cast Iron Serving Pot, Black, 2-Quart

Lodge Logic L2SP3 Cast Iron Serving Pot, Black, 2-QuartThis would be a great pot to subsitute for a dutch oven for a single person or couple because of it's smaller size.We are a family of 4 and it is the perfect size for side dishes like baked beans also. When you don't need the bigger 5 quart dutch oven, this pan gets the job done.As always, LOVE the pre-seansoning!

This is a great pot -so great in fact that within a half hour of its delivery, I was ordering a second from Amazon.

Think of it as: a two quart Dutch Oven; an 8 inch wide, three inch (almost) tall skillet WITH LID; a braising pan for a couple of chicken breasts; a sauce pan; a casserole dish.

This is a lot of pot, especially for the price!

I'd given up on cast iron because I could never seem to get and keep the iron seasoned. But Lodge's new preseasoning solves my problem -I'm now replacing all my cookware with Lodge Logic (the fact it's an American company makes me even happier).THANKS, Lodge!

This is probably the cutiest and the least used cast iron cookware in my collection. If you need to cook anything which requires stirring, this one is too small. There is too little room to toss and turn the food around. It maybe fine for heating soups and beans etc. but then its an overkill to buy something for just heating stuff. I often find myself using the 3 quart chicken frier a lot. Even if you make smaller quantities of food, you still need some room to maneuver.

I love this pot so much that I just ordered 2 more. We put all our side dishes in this. The size is perfect. It has a nice weight, not too heavy to handle.

It comes pre-seasoned which is convenient. As always with Lodge, quality is great. Nothing sticks and cleanup is a breeze.

We are trying to convert all our cooking over to cast iron. Cast iron lasts forever, cleanup is easy, things don't stick and I feel it is so much safer than using something with Teflon or aluminum.

My favorite use for this little guy is to make rice over the firepit and then dump a can of soup in. It fills you right up and comforts your soul at the same time. This pan is great on the stove and in the oven! Also, if you're ever being shot at I'm sure it could easily take a few bullets.

Rubbermaid 1H33 Vertical Slide-Out Lid and Pan Organizer

Rubbermaid 1H33 Vertical Slide-Out Lid and Pan Organizer

I wanted to give everyone a video review of this product as I think it'll show you more details on how it fastens to your cabinet and organizes your pots and pans.Enjoy!

This does not really hold a normal set of lids and pans, It can hold 2 fry pans and maybe 2 matching lids or perhaps 3 small lids, but it has to go into a cupboard with about 14 inches of clearance from top to bottom because of the width of the large lids.Very sturdy item, though.

I was looking for a product that would help organize the clutter in the cabinet under my cook top and not cost a bunch. This Rubbermaid organizer did the trick it is well made and was easy to install just 4 screws. The hardest part was to disconnect the unit from the frame and rollers. The directions are terrible you just have to use common sense to install it.

This pan/lid organizer is fabulous!I love that it slides out so I can easily pull the pan or lid I need without the clatter and bang that I used to hear.We are selling our condo and I told my husband that we will definitely be bringing this little organizer with us when we move!I only wish it held another fry pan, but wouldn't change anything else about it.

I agree with the other reviewers, larger pans won't fit in the sockets even if you have the height in your cabinet. Great for tops though. Solid and well put together and nice looking.

Chef Buddy 82-BC1004 4-Person Raclette Grill

Chef Buddy 82-BC1004 4-Person Raclette Grillwe used it in the last days 2 times. The size is very convenient for 2 persons. It's a small footprint. I love making raclette a lot, but because I had before only a 8 pans size we didn't used it very often. The cleanup is also very easy.

Did not keep either of these units myself, but rather gave as gifts owing to the price point.Recipients both liked the units particularly the hot stone.Good for small families.

This unit works very well, but pretty much only for two.The cooking area is really too small for more than two.I was worried that the cheese would be too far from the heat source to melt, but it worked just great.I'm very pleased with the unit.

Berndes Kuchenchef 9.5 in. Skillet

Berndes Kuchenchef 9.5 in. SkilletAbout a year ago, my favorite nonstick pan crapped out, and I did a lot of market research to figure out what nonstick pan would actually last. I had gotten recommended to Berndes by a relative, and I noticed the 'eterna' pan on the Berndes website, which they featured as their longest lasting nonstick pan.

I did a bit of research, and found that unlike all the other pans that berndes has, this one is coated by a company called Whitford, which specializes solely in nonstick coatings. Their 'eterna' coating process seems to be the latest & greatest, and they performed several reasonably scientific tests to prove so, with impressive results:A few words of caution: they show that metal utensils can be used with this nonstick coating. While this coating lasts longer than anything I've ever used with or without metal utensils, using plastic or silicon utensils is still the gentlest, and works just fine for flipping eggs/french toast. Their coating is extremely resistant to abrasion, beyond any other pan I've seen, but it's still not bullet proof. I betting that using plastic utensils vs. metal utensils as well as washing it with your hand instead of a nylon pad is the difference between owning it for a few years and owning it for a decade.

I've searched around for other pans made with the eterna coating, and I only found one other pan from a much less impressive brand. It even had rivets on the inside of the pan, which was a major turn off. I wish there were more eterna pans out there; I'd buy more!

My wife and I have owned this pan for more than a year, and it's still going strong like the day we bought it. We're incredibly happy with it. We'll probably continue to be happy with it for many more years to come.
