Cuisinart CBO-1000 Oven Central Countertop Oven, Brushed Stainless

Cuisinart CBO-1000 Oven Central Countertop Oven, Brushed StainlessThe CBO-1000 is very handy. I'm no cook, but within a few days of ownership I've made hamburgers, jalapeno-cheese cornbead and shish kebab. It is easy to clean, heats up quickly and doesn't take up much space. I would wholeheartedly recommend it as a countertop cooking appliance that does a lot.

However, I have one complaint and it's significant. The knob on the right that turns the unit on and also serves as a timer seems to have melted so that it no longer engages the stem. I can do all the same functions by sticking a screwdriver into a slot in the stem and twisting, but I definitely have a product that failed on the third round of cooking.

I hope Cuisinart will consider this problem and provide purchasers with knobs that don't succumb to the heat. I am in no way recommending that consumers substitute a screwdriver for the knob. IT MIGHT BE DANGEROUS. Consumers shouldn't have to jury-rig a device that costs $129 and fails in three rounds of cooking.

I'd give this four or maybe five stars if the knob hadn't failed.

I purchased this through Amazon.

---

I called Cuisinart'ss telephone support line and the customer service representative abruptly hung up on me. The serial number on the product is very difficult to read. I was trying to give her the serial number when cut me off. I hope this is not a reflection on the company's products and customer care.

my wife prefers this oven above all of her other cooking devices.

it is easy to use and easy to clean.

Just bought one of these on clearance after reading the reviews.I agree with the other

positive reviewers this thing heats up quickly, cooks evenly (very important to us) and

is easy to clean. For small preparations, there is no need to use the regular oven at all.

I will keep an eye out for the knob issue as one reviewer pointed out, but so far,

this has been great. Will buy another for backup if I can.

Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Waffle Griddle

Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Waffle Griddle9.20.2009 UPDATE

I am so surprised that this product only has 3 stars.I use this 2-3 times a month...I make 1 cup of gluten free mix which puts out 28-30 baby waffles...then I freeze them on a baking sheet, once frozen I then bag them. This process of freezing helps them not to stick to each other.

Every morning my daughter wakes up saying "waffles, waffles" she's 2.I put 4 in the cold toaster oven set it on broil...ready in2-3 minutes. When I make the batter I add a tablespoon of honey, maple or agave to the batter...gives the waffles a tiny taste of sweetness. They are then ready for munching...I do not add additional syrup...to messy for a 2 year old.She loves them this way.

One more thing I no longer oil the waffle pan this makes them browner & crispier...yes only one side gets the toasty color the other side is lightly toasted. For presentation I always lay the dark side up.I love this pan!

Original Review:

My baby girl loves these little waffles.I think she was getting bored w/pancakes...I use a gluten-free mix from Whole Foods by 365, their delicious...I love them too.Make sure the pan gets nice & hot (otherwise the batter does not get a nice toasty color to it), I lightly oil each little griddle & they come out perfect. Buy some nice maple syrup & organic butter...Yum. Enjoy.

Got this for my birthday from my mom (it had been in my wish list for while) and I am not disappointed. I have three little boys who love pancakes and I don't have room for a large waffle iron in my kitchen. I tried this out (using the recipe included with the pan) and they were delicious and easy.

My tips for success: butter or oil the pan before you put the mix in and only cook 4-5 at a time (otherwise I had trouble flipping them fast enough--or else I need to turn it down some more!) Sprays don't work as well (same as any other non-stick surface--they leave residue and buildup on the Teflon); oil with a basting brush is better. You use a fork to flip them and it's actually not too hard to flip them back into the little holes.

Bottom line: Great purchase. Fun. Tasty waffles. Worth the money! :)

P.S. Here is the recipe in case you misplaced it. I think that they work best with the recipe that came with it.

Nordic Ware Silver Dollar Waffle Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup flour

½ tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. sugar

¾ tsp. baking powder

½ tsp. salt

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk

1 Tbsp. melted butter

Directions

Preheat pan over medium heat and season with butter or oil. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, sugar, baking powder and salt; set aside. Beat egg until light and fluffy. Add egg, buttermilk and butter to dry mixture; mix until blended. Spoon about 2 Tbsp. butter into each cavity, and cook until pancakes bubble. Turn each pancake over and continue cooking until pancakes are a light golden brown.

I was excited about this product and it seemed like such a good idea!I love waffles, but hate the bulk of and inability to easily clean a waffle maker. So this seemed like a perfect compromise. But for me, it just didn't work.I used vegetable oil to grease the pannot non stick spray since it seems to get "gunky" on non-stick surfaces, and then put my batter in.It scorched quite quickly, even though it was only on medium heat, and then they stuck to the pan when I tried to turn them over to cook the other side.Trying to turn them over was a bit awkward, too. I don't know if my experience was different since we have an electric flat-surface range? Perhaps cooking on a gas stove is different? But I was not happy with how it cooked or the ease of use.I guess I'll have to drag out the wafflemaker...

I LOVE Nordicware's products and was quite excited when I found this pan marked down at my local giant store. However, don't order this pan thinking that voila! You're going to get up and have a great time making waffles. Not so!This boy takes some serious practice to get them right. The instructions do not say at all if it needs oiled or not and since the finish is nonstick, you cannot spray it with cooking spray or it will peel off.So, my first batch, thinking that it might be the same coating they use for Williams Sonoma, was made without using any nonstick product.Well, I had waffle goo everywhere imaginable and crumbled up waffles. So, I dug it out, cleaned it, and tried again. (The ONLY thing that will clean this too, by the way, is a very soft, non-scratching bottle brush. You just wouldn't believe all the nooks and crannies this guy has!) This time I used butter in the waffle sections before I put in the batter.Guess what?It really works well! They flip out easily and you can actually turn them over without making a messy disaster. The directions indicate that you need to use a plastic fork to flip the waffles and believe me, that's the ONLY thing that works! They really should include that with this product it would definitely make life easier!Recommend, but be sure you use a good waffle recipe and butter in the compartments!

We've had this waffle pan since Christmas and have used it maybe 10 times, so I can now say that it's performance has been consistent and very good.I've used at least three different recipes in it, and they've all worked fine in terms of not sticking (more on that below), but we really like the flavor of the buttermilk recipe that came with the pan so I mostly make it.Specifics that might help:

1) I use this pan on a gas stove. When I get out the bowl to start the recipe, I put the pan on medium to heat.I think it cooks best if given a 8-10 minute heat-up period.

2) Based on another review here, I melt butter (real, of course) in a small pan next to the waffle pan and use a silicone pastry brush to brush melted butter into each waffle-spot before adding the batter. This not only works great (along with the non-stick of the pan itself) to release waffles, but tastes really good.We don't add any butter on top of the waffles because they already have a lovely browned-butter flavor.

3) I used a slightly-heaped tablespoon measure to put batter into each well.

4) Cook them until they look fairly dry on top, then use a small non-metal spatula or fork to flip them over.Press slightly on them to indent the 2nd side down into the waffle holes.

5) I use a plastic-bristle brush designed for cleaning baby bottles to clean the pan.I put a little dish soap onto it and scrub away. It's gentle enough that it doesn't scratch the non-stick surface, and the thing cleans VERY easily and quickly.

OVERALL: Compared to traditional waffle irons, easy clean-up is a huge part of the appeal.I used to almost never make waffles due to gooey and crispy bits of batter ending up everywhere, and a resulting sticky appliance. This one is so easy that I've used it ~10 times in five months.Plus, the waffles are really cute. The first side to cook gets nice and crispy and looks good; the other doesn't look as good; but that's true for any food item that gets flipped.I store it wrapped in a small towel to keep other pans from scratching its surface because I really like it and want it to last for years. With good treatment, it certainly seems like it will.

George Foreman GRV80 Contemporary Grill with Extended Handle

George Foreman GRV80 Contemporary Grill with Extended HandleThis is my fifth George Foreman grill. It is the largest I've purchased over the years. I use the grill several times a week. It heats well and food grills uniformly. I find this particular model to be easy to use and it has held up better than the cheaper models. My biggest issue with all of the grills I've purchased is the cleaning. The plates don't come off, so you have to be careful when washing them so that you don't get water where it shouldn't go. The grills are made well, so it is pretty hard to get water inside the apparatus, but it is still a bit of a chore to scrub. Highly recommended if you want something that will quickly grill a juicy piece of chicken, vegetables and more.

I just got my george foreman contemporary grill today! On the picture it looks white but its really silver. I've already cooked chicken, shrimp, salmon, corn on the cob, and a quesadilla. It's awesome! Soo much fun! Cooking surface is 80 sq inches and it's small enough to fit on our kitchen counter without looking too bulky but big enough to cook for me, my wife, and my 5 year old son. I tend to over cook my food because i haven't gotten used to it cooking soo fast but I'm starting to figure it out. I think I'm going to start preparing my food in the morning (marinating meats, cutting vegetables and whatnot) to cut down cooking time even more! Cleaning is simple enough...just wipe down the hot grill with a sponge and dry off with a kitchen towel. Me and My wife are on a diet so this grill is going to make it easier to keep us on track! Highly recommended to anyone!

I've had my George Foreman GRV80 for six months and am completely satisfied with it. I use it at least five times a week for my family. I make everything from fish sticks to pizza on it! It only has one setting (very hot) so I'm limited to what I can make.As a "starter" grill I think this one is great. The nonstick surface makes clean up easy. If you want to do more things with your grill (i.e., make pancakes, cookies and waffles) then I would look into getting a grill with interchangeable plates. I also like the sloped grill so all of the fat drips away from the food. Today I made bacon and was amazed to see how much fat was in the drip pan! Another great feature is the large cooking surface. It's plenty big to make hamburgers for 4-6 people and two paninis at the same time. For the money you can't beat it.

Nordic Ware Pancake Pans

Nordic Ware Bug Pancake PanI was a bit hesitant to buy after reading a couple of the reviews but was willing to take a chance. I really don't see why there was any negative comments about it. As long as you spray your pan first, there is no issue with sticking. You will have issues if you try to turn them before they are cooked on one side but that's true regardless of your pan.I even used a waffle recipe on this rather than a pancake recipe and it was just fine.

I can't wait to surprise my granddaughters at breakfast time! It takes so little to make them happy yet the memories last for years. I only get to see them once a year since they live far away, but throughout the year they talk about the special breakfasts Oma fixes for them. I always have something unique at breakfasts & they've come to expect it as tradition. In time, I'd like to get some of the other pans just for the variety...And the thing is my husband & I are kids at heart so we'll use them even when the little ones aren't here.

We've had a great time making pancakes and eggs in this pan.The kids love them.Keep in mind, these are small pancakes, so it takes a while to cook up a meal.I'm thinking of buying another pan (with different animals) so I can get two sets going at a time.We use some spray on olive oil and have had no problem with sticking or with clean up.Took a couple of tries to get the temperature right, but once we found it, the fun was on.

This broke our glass stovetop the first time we used it. We had to buy a new stove because of that. There is no warning on the label. We read online that the cast iron coils under each animal face cause a seal with the stove top and traps the heat. The heat builds up and breaks the stovetop.

TRU 3-Crock Buffet Slowcooker

TRU 3-Crock Buffet SlowcookerWe just received the unit today.Got it on sale at Kohl's for $29.99 from $59.99.If I paid any more, I would be livid.Since it was so inexpensive, I am OK.Shipping was sloooooow from Kohls.I guess I am just used to the speedy shipping of amazon.comOne of the black nobs on the top is at a 45 degree angle. When the pot sits on a flat surface (we tried many), it rocks.Called customer service for Tru. Very nice woman, but did not resolve anything. She asked if all the feet were there. They were, so she said that I would have to return it to Kohls. What a pain! I need it for tonight. The cord is so incredibly short, it is almost comical. We have a outlet at the end of our table, which is up against the wall. This means that the plug has to go straight down from the table, to an outlet that is well off of the floor; and it still does not reach. The crocks seem well made. They look similar to my large Crockpot crocks. They seems to adequately warm up the food.As a matter of fact, I went out, and ruined my fondue :)I did not turn it down, so the cheese boiled and turned into a glob.We also had oil for the meat fondue, and it warmed up adequately to cook the meat.

Awful! A huge dinner I had been planning for weeks was ruined by this thing. First, the terrible smell that it gave on, from the moment I turned it on, was enough to make you want to open a window. All of my guests commented on the smell. You couldn't even smell the food 'cooking' inside of it. I had beef in one, chicken in the center, and vegetables in the third, you couldn't smell any of them. After 8 hours on high, all of the meat was still raw even though the outside of the crock was super hot. Absolutely horrible. Dinner was ruined and we had to scramble to find somewhere to go. 1

Splatter Screen, 13 Inch DiameterJust received this screen and was very disappointed.Screen is not tightly secured to rim, feels like it will pop out if I scrub it too hard. Handle is easily bent. It's not worth what I paid for. On a lighter note:I was thrilled that the big Amazon box it came in is a keeper!

Has a plastic handle, which seems odd given it is obviously to be used in very close proximity to high heat.I tore the plastic handle off.The whole thing seems very flimsy and cheap, and it became charred and slightly warped after a few uses.I guess that's what I should have expected for the price.I'll probably replace it with a different splatter screen soon.

I purchased this splatter screen, as a Christmas gift, for my Husband.

He used it to brown some chicken in a pan with a little bit of oil and the oil just splattered through the screen and splattered on my stovetop! I thought maybe a splatter screen was just a splatter screen and that it did not matter how much it cost. I almost purchased one from Williams Sonoma which cost about $30 but my Husband and I thought it shouldn't matter how fancy it was but we were wrong. Magnalite Classic Cast-Aluminum 14-Quart Covered Stockpot

Magnalite Classic Cast-Aluminum 14-Quart Covered StockpotI live in Louisiana and I purchased this Magalite Pot just to make seafood gumbo in.I was tired of the roux sticking to the bottom of my old thin pot.The Magnalite pot is excellent for cooking gumbo.Nothing sticks and I would recommend it to everyone.

Thank You.

Betty

Have had magnalite for about 20 years.I also own all types of All Clad stainless. For some reason, when it comes to cooking big pots of stews, chicken and dumplings, and chili, I always get out the 14 quart magnalite.I hope they have not changed the quality as the over review states. The roaster is also fantastic.I could never fry eggs or chicken in the fry pans however, they seem to want to stick.I always had very good luck with receipes that have a good amount of liquid called for and will always use them for fudge because the bottom is heavy, and roasters because the roast comes out super.I have to have my magnalite lined up by my all clad!!!!

I grew up in a house where we made homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs in a 40 year-old Magnalite stock pot. This one is just as good as the original. In some aspects it's even better. The surface is easier to clean. The lid is sloped more so you can percolate better without the lid "chatter".

If you haven't cooked with cast aluminum pots, you don't know what you're missing. Meals like meatballs, stews, and soup will cook perfectly at low to medium temps in this pot. The lid on this one also comes with a plastic handle, something I wish our old Magnalite stock pot had.

Our traditional meatball recipe wound up flawless. Although it may seem like prices here are a little high for a "stock pot", they're quite low for the quality of even cooking temps and consistency you get from them.

I promise...I do not work for now; nor, have I ever worked for Magnalite; but, I did stay at a Holiday Inn once when I was in high school! Seriously, Magnalite is magnificent & a dream to cook with no matter your level of culinary skills! As a matter of fact, someone just learning to cook should learn on Magnalite because of its simplicity and awesome metal& handle quality that allows even the newest kitchen queens (and kings) look like they're not new to the kitchen or excellent purchaser of these kitchen "must haves!"You can't help but be proud of yourself.

The sizes are perfect for growing families, empty-nesters and singles alike! My turduckens, roasts, gumbos etc. fit into a piece of magnalite no matter the size or height needed. Magnalite products maintain a constant temperature allowing your food to cook evenly and thoroughly (or to your desired shade of red, pink or well-done.)Treat yourself to what will surely become an heirloom for your child, children, grandchildren, family members and/or friends.A single piece of Magnalite given as a moving-in, wedding or birthday gift and the like not only shows that you have great taste; but, that they are special to you.

I have a few special pieces of Magnalite that were given to me by my grandmother,my mother and wedding gifts that range from brand new to AT LEAST 50 years old and they still look brand new.I had the good fortune this past year (2011) to receive my own new 13 piece set plus, 8 additional roasters, skillets & small pots from Hannah Claus & Santa Claus. He bought them for me through Amazon this past holiday season!I must have been very good!Working with Amazon is a breeze and free freight is available on a lot of goods especially during holidays.

There is nothing like a well-seasoned piece of Magnalite.I am a Cajun and someone who is always browning, reducing, or cooking something several times a day or week. You cannot ask for a better surface to make the perfect brown gravy, roux (for gumbo's & thickening agent), white gravy, soups, roast and so forth.

My collection or war chest of kitchen products has at least one piece of every size & style made by Magnalite. In addition to those I have several pieces of various sizes & heights just in case I ever need them.A woman or man can never have too many pots and/or skillets! (Note: I use all of them for special events during the holidays or any special occasion such as an after party for an art opening.) The weight is perfect and the handles sturdy.I have never had a handle break or a stain that would not come out.TIP:If your Magnalite ever becomes discolored on the inside simply cook a spaghetti or something with a tomato sauce as a base/acidic based food and it will make your pot/skillet looking like the day you bought it.In closing, my Magnalite products guarantee that no matter what I prepare in them...it will be cooked to perfection and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It's as though my family is with me at every meal! The gift that keeps on feeding and giving!

Cuisinart 725-30D Chef's Classic Stainless 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Dome Cover

Cuisinart 725-30D Chef's Classic Stainless 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Dome CoverThis pretty well completes my collection of Chef's Classic cookware. It arrived nicely packaged and undamaged.I have a small range so I particularly favor this pan over the long-handled 12" skillet with helper handle.Cleanup is also easier since the pan, without the longer handle, will sit flat in the sink.

I continue to believe that, other than All-Clad (USA), Calphalon Contemporary (China), and Anolon Advanced (Thailand), there is no better brand of stainless steel cookware. The reader should note that the first 3 have an aluminum core wrapped by stainless on each side and, unsurprisingly, each is far more expensive than the Cuisinart Chef's Classic line, with its heavy aluminum bottom disk.

This pan, at $24.95, is a bargain that will not last much longer. It should make a wonderful Christmas gift to the most discerning of chefs.

Cuisinart has two different grades of cookware. I've bought a couple of sets and seven or eight seperate pieces of what used to be called Chef's Classic over the last five or six years, and I love it!. One time I mistakenly ordered a set of the cheaper lighter weight pans. I quickly returned the set. That is what this pan is. I ordered it, and I'll keep it, but it's far inferior to what I already have. This is not nearly as well made. I see they now have a MultiClad Pro line... Seems as if they changed the names.

I've had this product for a month now, from Amazon. Thank You!

This pan is great for casseroles, paella, chicken & dumplings, veal marsala, etc. It's manufactured to the same standards as the rest of the Classic line, with the exception of the handles. If one inspects the image closely, it's obvious that the width of the handles parallel to the rim are narrower than that of the helper handles on companion products; however this does allow more space for oven mitts and potholders, which I enjoy as it's generally a single move from oven to table.

Of particular note, the cost of a domed twelve inch lid of this diameter direct from Cuisinart is $60 alone. The lid on this pan will fit any Cuisinart Classic pan with a model number ending in "-30" including the twelve inch frying pan and the 5.5 quart saut? pan. So if one needs to gain head space, allow for expansion, or configure an ad hoc Dutch Oven this is a bargain price.

For this product, I consider the lid to be less than half price and the pan to be free. I'm now a satisfied owner of twenty-four pieces of the Cuisinart Classic line. This may be the last, depending upon what Amazon presents in the future.

This is an incredibly useful and versatile pan, and attractive enough to both cook and serve from. I purchased it specifically for bringing to potluck dinner parties, and used it the first day I received it to make jambalaya. The heat distribution was lovely, nothing stuck while I was sauteeing the veggies, and the rice was fluffy and evenly cooked no scorched spots.

I've been using Cuisinart cookware for almost eighteen years, and while the products have gone through some disappointing phases, this one is a sound bargain and worth well more than twice the price.

I bought this at the same time I bought the Cuisinart 12" pan with the long handle because you couldn't get a lid for it, and I thought the price of this pan with the lid was about what you would pay for a lid alone.Well, the lid fits both pans, and the funny thing is, I'm not so good at using the handle to flip stuff in the pan, and I wind up using this everyday pan (which is identical except for the handle) because it fits in the sink and is easier to wash. The long handled version won't lie down flat in the sink since the handle is so long, and I like to let the pan soak a while so it is easier to clean. The quality of these pans are great, and I love the results.I've been using non-stick pans for years, and I've become concerned about the contaminants in them and switched to these I wish I had years ago. They really do work better.

Farberware Enhanced Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set, Silver

Farberware Enhanced Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set, SilverPROS:

-Non-stick works really well; there is hardly any sauce left in the pot/pan after you simply pour it out.

-The handles do not get hot.

-Lids fit well and are very high-quality.

CONS:

-Scratches easily.

-The bottom of the pots and pans are ribbed and hard to clean.

-We used the pans on a gas stove, and the non-stick wore off in approximately a year (not due to scratches but probably due to the heat). We are looking for a new set of longer-lasting cookware.

Love the pots and pans. The silicone handles don't get hot and it looks very nice.Cleans very easy and the price is fantastic! No matter where I shopped I couldn't find a better deal than Amazon. Now the down side,When I recieved the pots, on the dutch oven there was a manufactures defect on the bottom of the pot.The shinny, ribbed silver part was incomplete and it had some pretty deep scratches on it.I called the number provided in the Farberware box as directed by farberware and customer service so rudley told me they wont deal with it.Even though it was a manufactures defect, farberware won't honor thier warranty because I got the set off Amazon and they don't carry that set as an open stock item.So now I have to ship the entire package back to amazon to get a replacement of only the dutch oven.Amazon's customer service was great, farberwares on the other hand needs a whole lot of improvement.

I've been very happy with this set, especially the silicone handles as they really do stay cool. They're a huge step up from what we've been using (about 15 year old cheap and rather heavy cookware hooray for the student life). The only thing I might say is that they are quite easily scratched with metal utensils, probably a no-brainer I know but it was a little easier than I was expecting. Overall I love them though. They are made of aluminum so they are light and cook evenly, and the handles won't burn you.

I was given this set about 4 years ago as a gift when I moved out of my parents house and on my own. It's lasted a long time and only a few days ago did I have to finally toss out 2 pieces (the skillets) because of the Teflon flaking off. The set has a nice weight to it and really lasts. I think it's a great gift for someone who is just starting out. Also, the glass lids have a good seal and don't rattle around. The larger skillet in the set is a good size, but it's not big enough or deep enough to do one-skillet meals like Hamburger Helper or doing pound of ground beef for tacos. Supplementing with a larger, deeper, skillet would be helpful.

The key to really making them last is to not use metal utensils on the non-stick pans! When gifting this set, I would recommend adding a wooden or plastic utensil set as well. The skillets I threw away would've lasted longer had I never used metal on them since the pots still look nice in the set. And to note; by now, about 4 years later they are not as 'non-stick' as they used to be, but still serve their purpose. I would recommend this as a gift for people who are just starting out, I'm well established now and still have pieces from this set.

Fundix by Castey Nonstick Cast Aluminium Induction Paella /Everything Pan, 9-1/2-Inch/1-1/4-Quart,

Fundix by Castey Nonstick Cast Aluminium Induction Paella /Everything Pan, 9-1/2-Inch/1-1/4-Quart, BlackThis "Paella Pan" is not big enough to even cook a paella for one, it is more like a serving dish for serving one. I can se myself co0king eggs in it, maybe even a chicken breast, but not a paella, not any rice dish since here in not enough space for it and the liquids. The meassurements are from the top edge not the bottom flat surface which is around 7 maybe even 6 inches.

Update 4/25/13, Ikeep it on top of the stove and been using it to make Spanish Omellets, it does works good for that, got to be very careful when flipping since the handles get very hot.

Other than that it really does great with the non-sticking.

Emeril by All-Clad E9208264 Hard Anodized Nonstick 5-Quart Saute Pan with Lid Cookware, Black

Emeril by All-Clad E9208264 Hard Anodized Nonstick 5-Quart Saute Pan with Lid Cookware, BlackWas a good pan; liked it a lot. BUT had the pan for about 2 months before noticing that it had warped; middle is now higher than the sides; oil now pools around the rim of the pan, making frying difficult.Called All-Clad (they are in charge of Emerilware), who gave me a Return Authorization number. Will return for exchange, but I'm not optimistic; as the pan is lightweight, it will likely warp again.

As with all things in life you get what you pay for.I think that I will ultimately spring for the All-Clad Stainless 6 qt. Nonstick Saute Pan with Lid; it's almost $300.00 (!!!), but like my other 2 All-Clads, I spend the money once and have a great pan for the rest of my life.

I really like the pan.I had read a review before purchasing about the pan raising up in the middle which it does, but doesn't seem to be a problem cooking. It is a lot heavier than I thought it would be so makes it hard to wash, but all in all, it's a pretty good pan.

I first purchased this product from Macy's 10 years ago. It's rock solid, large enough to make all-in-one-pan meals, beautifully non-stick and cleans up quickly and easily.I purchased two more at $25.00 less each in comparison to a sale at Macy's.I have one boy in college and another going in next year. This is a great starter pan for a college student and even heavy duty enough for an expert chef. You couldn't give me all the All-Clad pans for free...This beats them hands down.I hope this persuades you to buy one...you won't regret it.Oh, BTW...free shipping and no sales tax to boot.

Winware Stainless Steel Fry Pans

Winware Stainless Steel 14 Inch Fry PanI'm picky about my pans, but unfortunately bought this product without fully researching it, which I have now done after the fact. Before getting into that, Amazon originally listed this item in the shipping section as 20 pounds.I knew that had to be a mistake. They subsequently corrected this, and now that I have the pan, it actually weighs around one pound. My husband thought it was of a good weight for cooking; I think it's a little lighter than it should be.It's also listed as an 8 inch pan, but be aware that your existing 8 inch lids won't fit it correctly; I know because I had three different lids and thought that one of them would surely fit, but none of them do.

If you want to research this Winco (not "Winware" as Amazon has it listed) product or any others in this line, here is the web information:www.wincodwl.comI provide this because "Winware" is the wrong name (the label on the pan says Winco), and this pan doesn't come up easily on a Google search; you have to look for it.The company's toll free number is: 1-888-946-2682.The Winco product number, which you will need (not provided by Amazon) is SSFP-8.I would strongly encourage you to fully research any Winco products before you buy them.

The two major things I was looking for was the gauge of the stainless steel and whether this pan would go in the dishwasher. This information is not provided either on the Amazon page or on the product label, so I was hopeful for good news, but it wasn't.Most high quality pans are a level of 18 gauge stainless steel, preferably 18/10.This pan is 20 gauge. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the steel, meaning that this pan is thinner than most quality cookware. The customer service representative did say that this pan uses induction heat, if that is important to you.I did give it the acid test, making scrambled eggs with cream cheese, and it worked okay and cleaned up well. Also, this pan will tolerate the dishwasher.

From an appearance standpoint, this is a cheap looking pan. It's made in China, and it shows. The handle is riveted on, and I'm wondering whether it with stand up to normal use.I will revisit this review after I have used it for several months, but my initial outlook is pessimistic.Amazon currently has this pan on sale for $14.88.If I had this to do over, I wouldn't buy the pan at all, but having it, I think it's worth about $10 given the gauge of the steel and that conventional 8 inch lids will not fit it.

September 10, 2011 update:This pan has held up better than expected, although it does not get too much use.The handle is sturdy (no flex) and the pan's finish has held up through dishwasher cleaning.I still would not recommend spending the current price for this pan, however.

Good Quality pan.

I bought this pan in summer 2010, in spite of an earlier review.Maybe the product changed since previous review, but I find the current item to be of good construction. It's solidly made, and appears to use the high-quality stainless specified (18/10 grade top notch material).Perfectly acceptable for home use, low price.

EDIT:I forgot to say, 18/10 stainless means the base steel contains 18% chrome and 10% nickel (nominal). This is an expensive grade, and under normal use you shouldn't need to worry about corrosion for a couple thousand years or so.Also, the pan won't melt until you get it up to ~2800*F +/-.Good stuff.FYI

Buy Winware Stainless Steel Fry Pans Now

This is my second purchase of this skillet/frying pan (son wants one). I purchased this same one last year and love it. It is much easier to fry larger batches without spilling all over the stovetop and I found a lid here on Amazon that fit perfectly Danesco Gastronome Pro Stainless Steel 14-Inch Diameter Lid. I can't imagine how I lived without a skillet this large but now that I have used one, I will ensure I always do! It doesn't require a lot of heat. As a matter of fact, if you use too high heat it will cause food to stick.I have a gas stove and cook at the lowest setting but then I have no trouble. If you are used to stainless this pan won't cause you any trouble. If you're not used to it, now you know use lower heat!It is a wonderful addition to my kitchen.

Iwachu Japanese Iron Teapot Tetsubin Turquoise Goldfish

Iwachu Japanese Iron Teapot Tetsubin Turquoise GoldfishI've been a big green tea drinker all my life and have used a variety of teapots, ranging from ceramic to glass.I've never had a nice teapot and for many years now have resorted to brewing cups of tea directly in a mug with tea bags.Only recently have I gotten back into using loose-leaf green tea, and while there's nothing wrong with tea bags it just cannot compare with tea brewed the traditional way, using high-quality tea leaves in a well-crafted teapot.Only recently have I come across these Japanese cast iron tetsubin teapots and finally decided to purchase the Iwachu Turquise goldfish design. It is simply one of the best purchases I've made in a very long time and I cannot believe that I've been skimping and cutting corners on making tea all these years.

The teapot itself is extraordinary in craftsmanship, which is what I can always expect with traditional things that are made in Japan by their true artisans.I specifically avoided many of the cheaper brand/models because it was not clear where they were made, and I suspect some are from China. The interior glaze, molding of the pot,handle/attachment and exterior paint are well-done and aside from being a teapot, it is a nice decorative piece to put on display. The attention to detail is exceptional and is well worth the extra cost.

Having experience with all types of teapots, I can attest that cast iron ones do indeed hold in heat longer (for a good hour if you're slowly drinking and emptying from it).Being so new, I do not yet have that patina tea-layer that accumulates on the inside over time, but I'm certain that it will only enhance the flavor over time, just like some of the yixing teapots I've used years ago.The spout does not drip regardless how full it is and the interior stainless strainer that's included sits nice in low for those who may want to brew half a pot, etc.

I highly recommend this product. It's well-made, durable and will last more than a lifetime if you take good care of it.It's incredibly simple to clean-just rinse with warm water and wipe dry immediately after. No soap or sponges.More pricey than other models/brands, but totally worth the money if you want top quality. For these long-lasting accessories, I'm no longer willing to skimp.Better to spend a little more on a good quality product rather than cutting corners and regretting later. In the end, it'll be well worth the investment.

Great design and very solid performance as one would expect from a cast iron teapot however do not be fooled by the lovely sky blue color!Mine is now a nice turquoise color, more green than blue. It turned after a week. But it's still quite nice.I just wish I'd been forwarned: then I wouldn't have gotten so caught up in finding the right color.

It is even more beautiful in person. The color is so vibrant! It feels solid and well made. It's the perfect size for two people and the price was an excellent deal for an authentic, MADE IN JAPAN teapot. I have been using it every day. I LOVE IT!!!

Demeyere 85624 Resto 9.4" Ecoglide Frying Pan without Lid

Demeyere 85624 Resto 9.4' Ecoglide Frying Pan without LidI own several pieces of Demeyere Apollo that I bought from Amazon, and I'm perfectly happy with them. I owned this pan as well for a couple of years, and was happy to shell out the bucks thinking that, unlike cheaper nonstick pans, it would actually last for five years or so. Sadly, that wasn't the case. It was great for making pancakes and omelettes, but the nonstick coating didn't hold up against scratches no matter how carefully I tried to baby it (plastic and wooden utensils only, keeping it separate from the other pans, hiding it from the cleaning lady--you name it!). Last month it was ruined during a move by a careless packer, and I was faced with buying a new one (even more expensive now) or trying something else. I bought a cast-iron pan from Target a couple of weeks ago and tried several times to make pancakes, and it was just impossible. They kept sticking and burning no matter what I did. (Apparently our mothers' cast-iron pans were machined smooth, and the new ones are all rough, and aren't good for much except frying meat.) Today I had an idea: how about a crepe pan? DeBuyer makes very highly rated steel crepe pans sold on Amazon and at high-end shops, and they're supposed to be excellent for pancakes and omelettes. The one I just ordered was only $19. I guess if you have health conditions that severely restrict your use of cooking oil, this nonstick pan is a good idea. Otherwise, you might be better off with something much less expensive that doesn't have nonstick's chemical and scratching problems. Good luck!

Berndes Cucinare Stainless Induction 10-Piece Cookware Set

Berndes Cucinare Stainless Induction 10-Piece Cookware SetBeautiful finish and sturdy construction was my 1st impression on this set. I was concerned that some of the pots do not come with matching lids. However, after using our GE induction cooktop range for a month now the lids are not needed. The entire base of the pot becomes the heating element so the cooking is very even.

The pots can be a little tricky as far as sticking. Butter, olive oil or Pam is mandatory for keeping food from adhering to the pots. A neat trick we found if you do get burned on or stained surfaces is to put water in the pot, pour some super washing soda in and bring it to a boil. Let the pot sit for an hour or when you're ready to wash dishes and the stuff magically rinses clean. But all in all it is a very well built set and the cost makes it seem like a bargain.

These pots are of excellent quality and beauty. I've been using mine for more than one year now and they still look like new. If they stain, it is enough to rinse them with a mixture of water and vinegar and they go right back to their initial beauty.

When the set of cookware arrived, one of the lids was damaged, not in shipping but in manufacturing.Long story short, I had nothing but trouble with the U.S. distributor of the product (Range Kleen in Ohio). And frankly, Stores123, the Amazon partner who I purchased the product from, wasn't much better. All I wanted was a new lid.I ended up requesting to send the whole set back or I would simply dispute the charge with my credit card company. No resolution yet.I will never consider a purchase of Berndes or Range Kleen products of any sort, and welcome the opportunity to let people to know how uncooperative the company was with a customer who received a damaged product.

Great cookware, have not had any problems. I want to leave them out on my cooktop because they are so lovely. After 2 years of use I still love this cookware, our lids are perfect and we have not had any problems. We do find sticking occurs if not properly using a fat which can be a problem for us since we try and not use oil/butter but overall have been a great addition to our kitchen.

Heavy well-made typical Cusinart. But I'm using their 8 inch GreenGourmet fry pan a lot more for quick frying.

On this pan, I would have liked a glass cover. I've found that my old glass cover for a similarly sized ancient double-handle fry pan works fairly well, so I use that instead.

Also, although it sounds deep enough, I would have preferred to forgo the shallow sloped sides which decrease overall capacity. I find myself going back to my old pan with straighter sides (same width), although the non-stick is very worn and probably not as safe as a diamond surface. The straighter side pan has considerable volume, such that I can cook soup, casseroles, etc. This one's volume is constrained by the slopey sides.

BL: Would have returned it if I had not detroyed the box...although it's my fault, not Cuisinart's. The photo shows shallow sides and solid cover. This pan was meant to be a compromise since I couldn't find anything like my old pan again...bad calculation on my part.

I bought a Scanpan but learned later through my research that it use some coating that are similar to Teflon, just in a different name. Since this pan was listed PTFE and PFOA free I decided to give it a try and am very happy with the performance and ease of cleaning. I made grilled cheese without any oil and butter. Cleaning was just simply wipe it with a piece of wet paper towel. It looks good on my cook top as well. Time will tell if the green coating will last as long as I hope.

Tibos Chromed Tibos Electric Crepe Maker

Tibos Chromed Tibos Electric Crepe MakerWe have used this of course to make crepes (takes some getting used to using the wooden toolsbut keep at it.Our first few crepes looked more like Swiss cheese, we've gotten way better at it now!)We also use it to make French toast, pancakes and gas house eggs.Next up we are going to try making tortillas. The recipe book that comes with it has lots of great ideas. We like it a lot because it is easy to use and doesn't take a lot of oil which makes things a lot healthier.

My family love crepes for sunday breakfast. After years of swirling pans I decided to go for a proper crepe maker. I originally purchased this item on amazon, but then cancelled after I found it for ~$50 cheaper at another online retailer.

PROS

* Cooks crepes very evenly

* Heats up quickly

* Adjustable temperature control is great

* cleanup is a breeze (Except for the bits that leak over the side and stick to the plastic base)

CONS:

* tools are not very good. OK to get you started but not good enough for proper use

Ladle is 2 oz, I find that it takes more like 3oz for a proper sized crepe (with my style batter), so I use another ladle

Spreader rotating plastic tool is so so. It doesn't hold enough batter to make an even crepe (for me)

Dough rake is not good, it is uneven (bowed) so it spreads the outside perimeter too thin. (I have ordered different ones on Amazon)

My first time doing it I kept the thermo at 5, per the recommendation in the book, but this is way too hot for me. It doesn't give enough time to spread the batter evenly (for a beginner spreader) and the crepe over cooks.

I now use 2 which is perfect. The cook time is much less with this machine that my previous pan method, so make sure you adjust accordingly. The batter should just start drying on the top when it's time to flip, that takes about 20-30 seconds, then only cook for about 10 seconds on the other size, produces the texture my kids love.

**** Update May 2011

After many weekends of use this crepe maker is still going strong. I ditched the provided tools and bought a round dowel like spreader on amazon. I now make (almost) perfect crepes every time. It's also a party piece, I get our guests to try and make the "perfect" crepe. It is a lot of fun , especially now I'm so good at it. It takes a light touch. Anyway crepes are still delicious and crepe sunday is still a highlight in our household. Very happy I purchased this!

This crepe pan will produce crepes closest to size and texture of traditional crepes. After using a non-stick fry pan for years, this is a real treat to use! As mentioned in other reviews, the temperature setting recommended in the recipe book is a bit too high I cooked on 1 it seemed to give me a little more time to spread the batter. I had a larger rake already, so I cannot comment on the included one.

As a note, there is no resting time mentioned for sweet and savory batters in the recipe book; I would recommend letting the batter rest for about an hour (or as long as overnight); it will help hydrate the starch and settle any bubbles. This is such a joy to have!!!! Just plan on eating LOTS of crepes if you buy this:)

Magnalite Classic 8-Piece Aluminum Cookware Set

Magnalite Classic 8-Piece Aluminum Cookware SetMy mom got this as a wedding present in the early 1940's.She was never a good cook, so I have been using it since the '60's.I stole some of her pieces when I married, but returned them when I found them for sale again.I purchased my first piece, a chicken frier, for about $25.00 in 1970, which was a huge price back then, and couldn't wait to get my hands on more.I bought a starter set of 8 pieces a few years later when I finally saw it again, and it forms the basis of my extensive cookware collection.I have been called the "Greatest cooker on earth" by many men, and I attribute some of the praise to this cookware.

This is heavy cast aluminum, with the same heat dispersal properties of cast iron, except that it can be washed and scrubbed.I polish mine from time to time, and it still looks new! It can be placed in the dishwasher, unlike cast iron. The cooking qualities are exceptional.Heat is disbursed over the entire bottom and sides of the pans, allowing a lower heat setting, and giving a more consistent heat to all the food within. There are no hot spots, which scorch the food and cause uneven browning or burning. The lids are heavy enough to seal the steam in the pots, which forms a mini-pressure cooker, cutting down on the cooking time a bit. They will not warp if overheated, which is important if you use electric heat.I mean, who hasn't lost track of time and let a pot burn now and then?It happens in a busy kitchen. But this isn't a catastrophe as it would be with cheaper cookware.I have added a few smaller pots as my family size has been reduced, but I cannnot conceive why anyone would want some of this designer/celebrity cookware with the raised rings that could never be scrubbed clean in a thousand hours!Just be sure you season the cookware in a slow oven first. (Wipe with cooking oil inside, including the lids, and bake all of it in a 225 degree oven for about 8 hours.)Reseason as necessary.Buy as much of it as you can afford, and add to it as the time and money allow.I use the heavy cast aluminum teflon skillets, and have gone through dozens of sets of those!YOu can't beat the Magnalite for delicate sauces, rice, and stews, or anything fried!

The originals were made in USA I almost bought a new set intil I realized these are not the same materials or sizes.

Peter Pike, President of American Culinary Corp., states he purchased the Magnalite and Wagner brands and original molds, and is the only source for parts that fit the original Magnalite pans. We are anxiously waiting for manufactured pans and parts to become readily available once again.

There apparently exists a dispute between American Culinary and World Kitchen (formerly Corningware) regarding the use of the Magnalite brand name. World Kitchen has been manufacturing some cast aluminum pans in China under the brand name of Magnalite ( which look like the original Magnalite but are of different materials and sizes). These are currently available at many WalMart, Sam's Club and Corning factory outlet stores at discount prices. Also available directly from World Kitchen at full price.

Magnalite parts from World Kitchen do NOT fit the original Magnalite made in the USA.

My mother has used Magnalite professional for 20+ years now and it's still as good as the day she got it.Magnalite classic is completely different, and apparently fussy to care for.

If you read comments and do your research, you'll find that this is *not* the original Magnalite formula. The way I understand it, one company (World Kitchen) owns the name "Magnalite", and a separate company (American Culinary) owns the formula to both the classic and professional materials. This "Magnalite Classic" is manufactured in China, and doesn't live up to many of its claims.

I was excited to receive this set as a wedding gift because my mother's set of Magnalite Pro is decades old and fantastic.Nothing has ever stuck to her pots and pans, and it's convenient to be able to wash them in the dishwasher.I noticed this was different because it was heavier, but a glance at the care guide didn't seem to indicate anything odd.It was interesting that the instructions claimed I *might* have to season it if food stuck to it.Boy, did it ever.I tried frying some breakfast sausage and had to scrape the patties off of the skillet; it's still got round stains where each sausage laid.My wife decided maybe I did something wrong and cooked some soup in the saucepan; now the entire saucepan is stained from the soup.

Nowhere in the care instructions was it mentioned *how* you should season the cookware.Nowhere on the manufacturer's web site does it explain how you should season the cookware.I immediately emailed the manufacturer about my negative experience and asked for instructions for seasoning the cookware. That was a year ago, and I never heard back.I'm about to try seasoning it like a cast iron skillet; if it damages it I won't be any worse off than I already am.I see a reviewer has left instructions to use a low heat for 8 hours; should I have to turn to Amazon.com for instructions? Can I trust this reviewer?

I'm sure the cast aluminum is really good; our apartment stove is cruddy and the elements are uneven. This heavy cookware would do wonders for us if food didn't stick to it like gum to shoes.I am unable to use it because the manufacturer does not include adequate care instructions and obviously has no desire to resolve issues with customers.

I'd strongly recommend looking for American Culinary's professional line if you're looking for cookware like this.It seems comparable in price, and looks exactly like my mother's Magnalite professional (down to the lids.)I would not recommend this Magnalite Classic to anyone, unless somehow the manufacturer decides to bless us with information about how to properly care for it.
