Rachael Ray Cast Iron 12-Inch Skillet with Helper Handle and 2 Pour Spouts, Orange

Rachael Ray Cast Iron 12-Inch Skillet with Helper Handle and 2 Pour Spouts, OrangeThis Rachael Ray cast iron 12" skillet with helper handle and pour spouts is slightly different than another version with silicone handles which this one doesn't have. But this model can go up to 500F in the oven where the other only did 450F. This may be the new release as the other has been unavailable for over a year. Our family will use this skillet for years to come so get it while it's here.

PS. It is a black interior as pictured not as described in white.

I had high hopes for this pan. However, a number of items contributed to my ultimate disappointment:

1. After receiving it, I read in the instructions that one should not use of the pan on a glass stove top. The reason is because it is assumed that moving it around on the burner will scratch the glass. While you might think this would be obvious, I did not see this warning anywhere in the listing and I have another cast iron pan that I've used for months on my stove top without any problems. No biggie. I decided to try it anyway and just refrain from moving the pan laterally on the stove top.

2. Immediately after setting the pan on my glass stove top (which was off), I noticed why it was probably not recommended. The pan is warped and would not lay flat. I probably wouldn't have noticed this on a 1960s style electric range.

3. At this point, I proceeded to cook a couple of garden burgers in it. I used a little bit of oil in case the "non stick" interior was insufficient. (Fair warning: this is not Teflon, but some other coating or maybe just a polished finish.) At the end, I turned the heat off (which was never above medium) and placed a lid I have on the pan so the cheese on the burgers would melt. The perfectly circular lid did not fit because at least one of the axes on the pan is somewhat eccentric. So I tried another perfectly circular lid and it suffered the same problem. Both of these lids tightly fit all the other pans I have with the same diameter.

4. Not wanting to ruin the finish, I soaked the pan for a few minutes per the instructions, then tried to wipe the garden burger, cheese, and a little BBQ sauce off the pan. Recall I used probably a tablespoon of oil for the two garden burgers. No amount of scrubbing with a sponge would remove the residue. After it dried, I managed to chip most of it off with a fingernail, but this is not something I would be willing to do on a regular basis.

In conclusion, I have to say that if it hadn't been warped, the pan would be a reasonable $19 cast iron skillet,like the Lodge Logic L10SK3 12-Inch Pre-Seasoned Skillet provided I could use an abrasive to clean it. Non-stick? Er, no...

It is a pan and functions as one, more or less, so I gave it two stars, however I will be returning it and getting my $80 back.

I think the skillet was a great buy. I have it in orange. Spent months looking for this item. Then it was out of stock. Then there was more stock and I purchased it. Watched RR use it a year ago for the first time on her show. RR cooked with a blue one and a red one on her show as well as the orange. I kept sending the show e-mails since I had my heart set on the red skillet and got no response, ever. I settled on orange. Whatever color it is a great skillet with great price. I agree with all the good cooks of the world everyone should have a good cast iron skillet.

Frieling Catering Frypan

Sitram Catering Frypan with Helper Handle, 13.5-Inch diameterThe Sitram Catering line is among the world's finest.The pots are virtually indestructible (anything can break during shipping and it means zero about the brand) they are super easy to clean and they retain heat better than anything out there, even Le Creuset.The line comes in very small to very large sizes, something you will not see with other brands such as All-Clad.You have a very smart lid system which will allow you to have many pieces that share the same lid if you want.

I could not give a product a higher recommendation.Sitram is the bomb.

As a part-time chef I own and use lots of so called "professional" cookware.

The nice thing about Sitram specifically is the fact that most of their better lines do not have rivets.

Not having rivets through the cooking surface qualifies this cookware to be NSF certified. Old, dirty food

particles get caught up in the crevice around the rivet. This crud is unclean, and very difficult to really ever get out of the pan.

So next time you eat out hopefully your restaurants kitchen is using rivetless cookware! Sitram is the worlds largest commercial stainless cookware company for a reason. All stainless cookware has coloring after being used, especially on a gas stove. This is very normal. The main difference in the Profisserie line and more upgraded line is that the the base model has a stainless subbase under the stainless surface versus a copper base. As I stated at the beginning I own lots of cookware including quite a bit of AllClad, some very old US made Calphalon, and even a few French made Cuisinart pieces. Of all of these, I personally prefer to use my Sitram when possible.

I ordered this pan from amazon, and received the 13.5 inch Sitram Profiserie pan, which is a cheaper option without the copper bottom.I complained and they shipped a replacement, and AGAIN I received the Profiserie pan.Beware, Amazon has this item mislabeled, so I would not order it from Amazon.

The 13.5-inch diameter pan is just what I wanted, and I gave it all five stars.

However, I found that it does not fit into my home kitchen oven.It nearly fits, but not quite.The door almost closes, with about 1.5 inch more to move.If you would need to put the pan into your oven (for finishing or holding the food), here's what I know about the size.

My oven is a Kitchenaid convection oven.The convection fan's shroud intrudes a bit into the oven.The rectangular clear space available seems to be about 16 x 22 inches, though I have to estimate the 16 inch dimension because I can't measure easily where the door is when it's closed!

The pan's outside diameter is 14.25 inches.There are two handles, and the distance from one end of the loop handle to the tip of the long handle is 25.5 inches.

While I'm measuring stuff... the base disk is 11-1/8 inches where it meets the pan, and tapers to 10-3/4 inches diameter.The disk is 1/4 inch thick, but I cannot see how much of that thickness is copper.I don't see any copper color; it must be clad with something else.

It's big.I bought the comercial lid too.Unfortunately, neither handle is riveted to the pan.The long handle broke completely off during shipping even though the box that it came in was still in good shape.The spot welds were inadequate (downright crummy).

Pans without rivets are a bit easier to clean, so I figured I give this pan a try instead of an All-Clad.If the spotwelds had been up to par, I would happier.

Amazon was quick to send a shipping tag for both the pan and lid.Amazon quickly refunded everything including shipping.

Range Kleen 10 Inch Blue Fry Pan with black matte interior

Range Kleen 10 Inch Blue Fry Pan with black matte interiorI bought this same exact skillet several years ago and was very excited to see it priced on here at half of what I originally paid.I am going to purchase another one.I think that the mistake people make with the enameled cast iron is that they do not properly preheat.If you preheat on low to medium heat for approx. 5 minute then even eggs won't stick.Of course you should use oil when cooking certain things like eggs.Iuse coconut oil to cook with and have never had anything stick.

And remember; there is no reason to season enameled cast iron.You are wasting your time doing this and may even damage the enamel.I wonder if the people posting negative reviews have destroyed their enamel by seasoning.

Ditto to the first review.

Eggs stick and I have "seasoned it" countless times.Still trying to figure out what they want me to do so it won't stick with eggs.

It does heat water OK.LOL

Buy Range Kleen 10 Inch Blue Fry Pan with black matte interior Now

After almost ruining my cast iron skillets from lack of knowledge, I did a little research.I did stumble onto a site that really gave me the instruction I needed to care, maintain and correct any problems that I was noticing...rust, food sticking.

I understand that with time, the sticking should subside.I use my cast iron almost daily.

When my husband can't cook steaks on the grill...I use my cast iron and tastes just like it was grilled...or at least close enough.

I use this to cook pancakes regularly.I have used it to cook my eggs.Yes it does still stick a little still, but like I said, with time the sticking has been and should be subsiding as long as I care for the skillet (dry it and oil it) afterwards as I learned from my websearch.

Happy learning, cooking and eating!

This is cast iron. When I use it on a conservative heat, the handle doesn't get very warm. When I cooked in it with oil and 400+ degrees for 30 minutes, the handle is going to get hot. It's iron. If you had a $500 iron skillet it would still be made of iron and heat up eventually. As far as cleaning, if you're not prepared to go through the pains of learning to cook with cast iron, it might not be for you. When I cooked on it the right way, easy as clean up can be on cast iron. I started to deglaze with the pan was smoking hot... spent an hour cleaning it (my fault). If you want easy clean up, get one that's porcelain on the inside too, but then you might as well use a normal frying pan.

From the research I had done, I expected this pan to have a special interior that would be easy to clean, unlike typical cast iron cookware.The interior is like sandpaper like any other cast iron cookware it's a royal pain to clean.

Also I had the impression the handle would not heat up significantly.Not true, after cooking the pan can only be comfortably (heat wise) lifted from the very end of the handle and that is creating a lot of bad leverage against the heavy weight of the pan making it dangerous and difficult to hold while you empty the contents.

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction Cooktop

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction CooktopI purchased mine from the Nuwave website.It was the BoGo offer with the cookware.As written in many other places the S&H for the cookware and second cook top negate any "get one free" benefit.That should be a considration of "how/where" you purchase.

I immediately unpacked my 2 PIC to test boiling water.First thing I found out was my Calphalon cookwarefrom Target is annodized aluminum...not magnetic and not induction compatible.That should be a considration about buying the PIC if you want to use current metal cookware...BE SURE IT'S Magnetic.

Ok, now for the review of actual functionality.I used both the "free" stainless steel cookpot and a castiron fry pan.Both PIC's that I received only had a functioning induction coil in the very center of the cooktop.If you see a picture without the pot or pan on the PIC it's the size of the center red circle that is intersected by the NuWave logo.This will affect the eveness of heat distribution and cooking...especially frying.

The button for "Med" indicates a temperature of 275.I just wanted to boil water for my first use(that's 212 degrees farenheight, actually slightly less here in Colorado Springs).After 5 minutes there were bubbles forming on the bottom of the pan in a 3-4 inch circle in the center.This is the location of the inner induction coil.According to the NuWave response on their facebook page the induction coils are supposed to be out to the OUTER red cirlce on the PIC cooktop so this indicated to me that the coils were not working properly.

To get the water to actually boil, and this is on the included DvD also, you need to select the SEAR/HIGH button and adjust down once you get to a boil.

I don't see this product being nearly as "precise" as the NuWave website indicates.There is definitely as much lag in heating pots as with a standard electric range.It may truly be more efficient overall because the heat is generated within the cooking pot by exciting the atoms and not transferred from the heating element to the pot...but speedwise I definitly saw zero improvment over conventional electric or gas.I have a GE Profile gas range and the small burner did a better/faster job boiling water, again probaly not as efficient since the flames must heat the pot.

Safety-wise there are indeed no open flames or electric burners but the glass cooktop does absorb heat from the cookware so there is a chance to burn yourself after extended cooking times with the PIC.

I think this may work fine as a hotplate for parties or for serving fondues...but for active cooking I feel it's quite a let down from what is shown on their site or in the informercials.

*** Updating to a 3 star rating after testing the green pans that came with the product.The heat convection in the "Perfect Green" 9" Duralon pan is very good and the non-stick surface is excellent(not sure about durability as this is day two with the product).I'm not sure why the sauce/steamer/fondue pan seems to work poorly but the Perfect Green fry pans work very well.I can't push this beyond 3 stars as it still seems as slow when using anything other than the fry pans.I bought this with the idea of having solid, precise control for frying chicken I will be trying that this weekend and hopefully reporting back here afterward.

### For those of you who wondered about chicken frying, it seems to hold temperature(once you get there !!!) much better than a standard electric skillet, and since it seems to cycle off when it reaches temp...unlike standard cooktops that keep adding heat unless you adjust them...it was a better final product. I was able to fry 12 chicken thighs in 3 batches of 4 without stopping or messing with the controls.

Still only a 3 because it definitly doesn't live up to the infomercials.

MARCH 10, 2013.

Our review from December published below originally gave this PIC a five star review. I have changed to only ONE star now. SO, if you happen to read any comments by other folks which might not make sence, that is why...

I also have added at the bottom of this review an email from The Induction Cooking website expert, addressing small induction burner elements and the cooking powers of these smaller Induction cooktops.

The Induction cooking method is a good choice.

THIS product has a defect which makes it cook at much higher temperature than the temperature you set.

I used a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of water and soup. THe temperature/thermostat was defective.

When the unit was set and 160, the thermometer measured 200 and a rolling boil occurred.

I returned the unit, exchanging it for another PIC.

THe same defect occurred.

I will be returning the second one now, and get my money back.

I hope that this update will serve to protect others from putting their money into a product which does not function properly.

ALSo, for reader's information. THe induction burner within this unit only measures 5 1/2 inches, so can't be used with larger pots.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question to Eric:
I've been looking at the listings on your site.What I am looking for is the
> ACTUAL size of the burner element in each of the countertop cooktops.
>
> I thought that the individual companies would have this information readily
> available, yet cannot seem to find it on amazon and your site. Do I need to
> call or write the individual companies to get this information.
Eric's answer to my question:
You could, but the answer will be pretty much the same (if you can get an
answer at al)--around the 5" to 6" that you have discovered by yourself.The
only exceptions would be in some units expressly designed for commercial use
(and priced accordingly).
One must remember that countertop units were not and are not intended as the
main station for cooking--they are improvements on the old "hot plate", which
is for lightweight supplementary cooking, from heating up a small pot of some
canned goods in a college dorm to at-the-table cooking of those few dishes
that need to go from pan to plate in a blink.They were never meant for 12"
skillets or huge, many-quart pots of soup or the like.
If one has to cook on them with anything much larger than 6" to 8" in
diameter, the material of the cookware and the natire of what's being cooked
come into play.Cast iron is a poor heat conductor, and so is quite slow to
carry heat from the center to its periphery; on the other hand, given enough
pre-heat, it will eventually get at least moderattely hot at the perimeter and
will tend to hold that heta."Clad" stainless steel, on the other hand, is
designed to conduct heat well, and so will heat up more quickly; but it will
also cool down more quickly.Neither material on a small, countertop unit
will be really satisfactory in heating the outer annular area of any pot or
skillet, but whether that is critical depends on what one is cooking: if one
is making pancakes, or cooking anything that needs even heat throughout, it
will never be a real success; on the other hand, something like heating a
liquid will work tolerably well because the liquid itself will very rapidly
even out the temperatures.
There is always, though, the power limitation: 13,000 BTU/hour, which is the
equivalent of what a 1.8-kW tabletop can deliver, is a lof heat energy, and
will do well for most household tasks.But even that cannot boil several
quart of water in a flash.In a build-in unit, a 1.8-kW element would be one
of the small ones.
I purchased through the TV Add BOGO.I couldn't wait to get my new induction cooktops because I want to replace my regular smooth cooktop with induction.Felt this would be an excellent way to try it out.Since I have ALL CLAD stainless steel cookware, I knew my cookware would not be a problem.
When the units showed up, I opened the first unit, filled up one of my All Clad pots with about 3 inches of water and put it to the test!Unfortunately, only the very center of my pan tried to boil.I NEVER got a full boil going with the unit.It didn't even get the center of the pot of water boiling.Since that didn't work, I pulled out a smaller pot and tried again.Same result.To top off the poor performance, the fan is incredibily loud.
I emailed with customer service (Hearthware.Com) and their answer was "sorry".I was told if I wanted to send it back, I had to pay the shipping and handling.Now, that means I have to pay shipping and handling both ways for a poor product.So, I figured it was just the one unit so I opened up the 2nd unit and tried the same thing.This unit was worse than the first one since after 10 minutes I couldn't get anything to boil.Temperature of the "boiling" water never got over 140 degrees. Fan was just as loud on this unit as the first unit.
So, back to customer service (email) I went.Again, no assistance in saying "let's replace that for you".Same answer send them back at MY cost.
Needless to say, I will never purchase a product through HEARTHWARE again.I will NEVER purchase a NU WAVE product again.It cost me over $75 for shipping and handling for a product that did not work and I don't have.MAJOR disappointment.
Ordered a NuWave PIC and NuWave Mini Oven online.I received a confirmation email on the order immediately after the order was placed.It had the following number to contact customer service at 855-742-2665.I wasn't aware of the high shipping and processing costs that came with ordering online ($153.84 for the items and $114.85 for shipping and processing).I immediately called the customer service number but got a recording that they are are open at 7AM CST M-F.I called the following morning at 7AM CST and spoke with Carlos.He said that the order wasn't in his system and to call back.I asked when to call back and he said after lunch.He said that he didn't have a way to check on the order.Fine, I called back after lunch and spoke with Geri and Teresa (supervisor).Both of them said that they see the order and would put in a cancel request but I had to call back after 24 hours to see if it got cancelled.They said that if not, I would be responsible for the shipping and processing charge after I returned the items.I told her that I should only have to call once that this customer service number was on the order confirmation that I received by email.I asked if they worked for Hearthware and they said yes.I asked them to transfer me to shipping and they would not do that.I was informed that the call was being recorded and I would again have to call back in 24 hours to see if the cancel request went through in time to stop the item from being shipped.
I located a number for Hearthware, Inc in Libertyville, IL at 800-229-2123 and the agent was very helpful.She said that the people I had been talking to are offsite and not employees of Hearthware, Inc and are in a callcenter.She cancelled the order for me and sent me a confirmation email.I asked to speak with a member of management with the company and am waiting for a callback.
I can't speak for the effectiveness of the product but the runaround has turned me off on this product and company.
I also bought this for my OTR driver and he loves it.... but the only complaint was food does stick to it but he puts water in it plugs itback in to heat up and food comes right off. So this product does take a little bit more work to clean up afterward. Now he can have eggs, rice, hot sandwiches instead of cold ones. He said it is well worth the money. T-fal C811SA64 Elegance Stainless Steel Dishwasher Safe 10-Piece Cookware Set, Silver
T-fal C811SA64  Elegance Stainless Steel Dishwasher Safe 10-Piece Cookware Set, SilverI hesitated before I purchased this set because some of the reviews were not favorable.Some of the reviews were a total 5, so I wondered how there could be such a huge gap between the purchaser's reviews.A little homework answered the question.
This is a beautiful set, and if handled ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTIONS, should stay in beautiful shape.One of the reviewers stated that her cookware turned blue after being put into the dishwasher.The directions distinctly state that this is a normal condition for stainless steel and can be remedied by wiping lemon juice or vinegar over the pot/pan.It works; just as stated.
Another reviewer stated that her pan warped.This happens when the heat is too high.Instructions fully state that one should not use this cookware on HIGH.It does not take much heat to allow the food to cook.There is an aluminum disk inserted in the bottom to conduct the heat.Aluminum DOES warp and melt under extremely high conditions.
One reviewer stated that the steel could be bent with her fingers. Perhaps she had a defective piece, as there is NO WAY I could do such a thing.I hand quilt everyday and am a professional seamstress.I have a lot of strength in my fingers; but still, it is an impossibility to bend this steel.Granted, the cookware is not a professional HEAVY weight, but it is a cookware that is bit weighty, but easy to handle, and light enough to produce quick heat.
Last night I fried salmon patties, and the pan cleaned up nicely.I used a little BonAmi, which is similar to Bartender's Secret, which is recommended by the manufacturer.I have cooked chili, boiled pasta, steamed veggies...all to success and my cookware looks new.
Although I cook everyday, I did not want to continue with my non-stick cookware.I thought it would be a good idea to purchase a reasonably priced stainless set to get used to cooking with stainless; eventually moving up to a more pricey set if necessary.At this point, I do not think I will need to move up to a more pricey set, but will purchase additional pieces of the T-fal Elegance, including the chicken fryer and the 3 qt.pot/lid.I did already purchase the 12.5 saute pan and it is very useful.
I love this set and think the price does not speak for it's excellence.It is a LOT of value for the money.
I like this set.It is very good quality for the price.I bought it because it is induction usable--it does not say that in the ad, but I had seen this in a store and bought a single pan to test.
The lids are very nice fitting, with a hole in them.I wish the lids fit the pans too, but they do not.
This is not super thick steel for many reasons.Reasons include heavy weight, a pan that will not cool down (especially critical for induction), handles stay cool if thinner,and cost.I do not find any of the items flimsy at all.It is somewhat thin feeling but very amply sturdy.It does not bend on me at all--even trying.I did not try a hammer on it, but do not find a reason to.
I think this is a good deal for what you get.
I wanted to get away from aluminum and coated cookware and decided to give this a try. My concern was that it would burn and stick and be difficult to clean as was inexpensive stainless cookware I have tried in the past. I saw it at my local WalMart and was impressed with it's quality and weight. Also their price was $36 higher! I have been surprised at how little sticking happens and have had no burning to the bottom or hard to clean experiences. The heat transfer is so efficient I can cook at lower temperatures. I can see how this set will last me the rest of my life.
Want T-fal C811SA64 Elegance Stainless Steel Dishwasher Safe 10-Piece Cookware Set, Silver Discount?
Lets get a few things out of the way.
1. I'm not a "professional cook" But I cook somewhat complex meals daily.
2. I had no experience with stainless so I actually took the time to do some research,silly, I know.
3. I'm the the cheapest person on the planet, however I don't scrimp or save when it comes to important things, like cookware. I'm cheep not destitute.
I've been researching stainless steel cookware because, like most of you, I want to get away from the non-stick flakes in my food.I research almost everything I buy almost too much. But this cookware set was a little bit different. I saw these here on Amazon but to be honest the price was a deterrent in terms of it being to low for my brain to associate it with good quality. I read the write-up and kept a mental image in my mind, but quickly dismissed it.
After months of research I was leaning towards, of course, a $600+ set made by All-Clad, they are the best in the industry, after all. I had almost bitten the ordering bullet a few different times but that little voice in the back of my head kept screaming "hey, idiot you're gonna drop $600 dollars on a type of cookware you've never used? Why don't you just buy a cheep pan to see if you even like cooking with stainless" Once again that annoying little voice saved me some cash.
My girlfriend and I were at 'Goodwill' last week on my monthly hunt for pre-50's stuff, I have a problem, I can admit it, and we saw these two really beat-up, and I mean beat-up, stainless steel frying pans from this very set. The 10.5 inch and the smaller one for $2.99 and 1.99, respectively. It looked like someone had tried cooking in them and whatever it was it didn't work out to well for them. They were so bad I quickly dismissed them as I thought they were non-salvageable. But, again, that little voice popped up to remind me that during my research on stainless steel cookware I had seen someone posted a before and after picture of really bad stainless steel pans and how well 'Bar Keepers Friend' cleaned them up. So I figured for $5 bucks, what the hay.
As soon as I got them home I went at them with steel wool and 'Bar Keepers Friend'. Sure enough after about 20 minutes they were shinning like new.
After making sure they were really, really clean I decided to try these bad boys out.
The first thing I made was sautéed mushrooms and onions in the small pan and steaks in the bigger pan. From my research I remembered to season the pans with olive oil and preheat them for a few minutes on no higher the medium heat. After doing all this I put all of the food in. I was really worried about the steak sticking because, well flesh sticks but after remembering the other major advice I picked up about cooking with stainless steel "I LEFT THE FOOD ALONE!" When it came time to flip the steak absolutely no sticking at all, on either one. There was a little caramelization in both pans but it came right of.My first cooking experience with stainless steel was a success...and the food tasted AMAZING!
The next morning I tried the stainless steel litmus test eggs. Following the above steps my egg white omelet turned out great. Over the next few days I threw all the most stick inducing foods I could think of not one issue, with the food!
I did have a few issues with staining on the pans but my new best friend 'Bar Keepers Friend" bailed me out each and every time. After a week I decided to skip on the two-car-payment-sized All-Clad and just buy a complete set of these.
Now to address some of the negatives I've read here on Amazon.
Someone said they "could bend it with the pressure of just one finger." Um. no you can't and believe me I'm a big dude who spends way to much time in the gym, girlfriends words, not mine!
Someone said "they stain easily." yes, that's why you CLEAN THEM!
Someone said the "the lids don't fit the skillets." True, hence why they're called "skillets"
Someone said "the included metal spatulas scratches the cookware really bad."Not from my experience. The included spatula & spoon are not of the best quality but they're certainly up for the tasks at hand, even without scratching but even so I use wood utensils, always have, always will.
Someone said "the handle gets so HOT that I've burn my hand several times." These handles stay cold to the touch, save for once incident where I let the handle hang over the edge of the stove while I had the oven door open, for probably 2 minutes as I was distracted by bright shiny colors on the T.V., then, and only then did a handle get hot.
Last, but not least, my favorite complaint, which seems to be a theme shared by all the negative reviews -"food sticks." Food will only stick to these pans if you do any one of or combination of the following; not preheating, not using oil,using too high of a temperature or just not paying attention.
The important thing to remember is you really have to change the way you cook. It takes me on average 30% longer to prepare meals with this new cookware but the trade off is the food tastes so much better and you don't have to worry about consuming the Teflon, they say is safe for you, today!
About the actual pans.
Heres the odd thing. The pans I got at 'Goodwill,' the same ones in the pictures on here, are a little different then the complete set I bought, somewhere else. I think the ones from the set are an updated version of the ones they're selling here. The pans are a few ounces heavier, the handles are more rounded and the bottom has a different design. They kinda look like the bottoms of the T-fal C798SC64 Ultimate Stainless Steel Copper-Bottom Multi-Layer Base 12-Piece Cookware Set but without the copper. I actually like the old design better, Anyways I thought you guys should be aware. I can post a picture if anyone wants me to.
The reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because there are some flaws.
The handles, on everything could be finished a little better. They seem a bit "rougher" then they should. This is especially true for the handles on the pots and there respective lids. Now, I don't feel like they'll cut me, but every time I pick one up(pots and lids)the thought does enter my mind... Just be aware.
Also the lids do not fit snugly on the pans. It's not really an issue, cooking wise, just a little annoyance.
Finally the rivets, and this is just a personal gripe. These come with a 25 year warranty. I promise you the rivets will fail before that. Rivets only last so long under constant load changes and from my experience when they begin to fail it's best just to get rid of the pan, or if you know how, drill them out and either put new ones in or do as, in my opinion, every manufacture should do, replace them with nuts and bolts, or screws. It may be a pain to have to tighten a screw on a handle, but at least with screws you can tighten them.
Other then the rivets there is no doubt in my mind that these will last 25 years or more, if you take care of them. They're nowhere near as fancy or as well built as the the high end cookware but really do they have to be? In my opinion They are built well enough to more then justify the price and they're an above par entry level set that you probably won't ever feel a need to replace.
Final thoughts
These are oven safe up to 500 degrees according to the direction, I didn't see that anywhere else so I thought I'd share it.
Now, If you want to make the switch to stainless remember three important rules.
1. Preheat WITH oil... Always use oil--olive oil, Canola oil, don't use vegetable oil, people!--even with hamburger or sausage, I've never cooked sausage in these pans, but I can assume.
2. Never go above medium heat except when boiling water or reducing liquids.
3. LEAVE THE FOOD ALONE. You'll know when it's time to flip because the piece of food will almost glide with just a small nudge.
Progressive International Stainless Steel Splatter Screen
Progressive International Stainless Steel Splatter ScreenThis thing is exactly what I was looking for.Sturdy and durable (doesnt bend) with an ultra fine mesh screen.I think this is the 13 inch size (use for 12 inch skillets).It may seem that it is easy to find a splatter screen, but most of the ones out there are crap so people end up breaking them or not using them.I was looking for a good one for months, and this is the best out of the dozen or so that I looked at (including the ridiculous $50 All Clad model).Although not absolutely necessary for me, I like the added feet so that you can set this down without making a mess.
I did not originally intend to purchase this screen.Rather, I fancied a dome-shaped model which I saw in a store, twice as expensive as this one, until I read a Cook's Illustrated review which slammed the domed screen as working 'equally poorly on both small and large pans' (!).Their recommendation was an AMCO model with fine mesh, similar to this one but a bit flimsier, without the little feet, and a bit more expensive.They didn't test this model, but I wish they had, as it's the best I've seen.
This screen improves upon others with its fine mesh (more effective at catching spat oil), its heavier-gauge frame, and its little feet that keep the screen off the counter top, reinforce the screen's mesh, and serve as a trivet.Not just for light duty, either -my wife and I made a pork-loin fricassee in our big copper saute pan, which weighs about 9 pounds empty, and then plopped it down on top of the screen-as-trivet for table service.Impressively sturdy for a nine-dollar item!
The only irritation was that the half-inch feet prevented me from storing the screen between our microwave and the shelf above it, as we'd previously done with the drugstore model.(Which melted, hence this fine replacement)The solution became obvious after dinner -store it under the heavy pan.
If you need a good splatter screen, buy this one.All the others we saw have some detail or other that falls short.This one is cheap, elegant, sturdy, and big enough for a 12.5" (32cm) frying pan.Save yourself the trouble of fooling around with the lesser models, I've seen none that can stack up, let alone at the price point which Amazon is offering this one.
Progressive International Deluxe Splatter Screen A pleasant surprise, it does what it was suppose to and does it well!The additional bracing across the screen area helps keep the screen not only flat on the cooking pan but the additional weight holds it there, unlike the competitions lighter weight models where the screen tends to tip towards the handle.The three little feet let you set in on the counter when removed and while they don't stop it from dripping a little, it's a lot less than putting the competitions screen down.It cleans up easily and is dishwasher safe!A "Thumbs Up" winner at a great price!Oh yes, it really does stop the grease and oil splatter!
This biggist advantage of this product is the very small holes in the screen.I have used other screens but they do not stop splatters nearly as well.I use mine almost every week and it has performed well for almost a year.I hand wash only.Also, the screen has changed colors from use but that has not affected its performance.
I was a little hesitant to spend over $10 for a splatter screen as most of them really aren't worth more than a few bucks.However, I am VERY glad that I spent the extra money on this one.
The quality of this item is top notch.It's much more sturdy than any others that I've seen.I've been using this splatter screen for a few months now and still love it.The feet on the bottom are very helpful in controlling messes.The handle is terrific (some screens only have either a D ring on the top or a thin handle) and seems to stay cool while in use.
This even got raves from my mother.
KitchenAid Gourmet Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-1/2-Inch Skillet
KitchenAid Gourmet Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-1/2-Inch SkilletThis is a very good product and performs as advertised.Performance is synonymous with the brand name even though not manufactured in the U.S.A.
I've been always looking for a skillet that is easy to wash. I used to have a "supermarket brand" skillet, which was very tedious in washing it. KitchenAid skillet was not just very easy to wash, but also heats more quick and even throughout its surface. Simply, I adore it and enjoy cooking with it!
Silit Fresh 11-Inch Fry and Serve Pan, Lemon Green
Silit Fresh 11-Inch Fry and Serve Pan, Lemon GreenIn my never ending quest to improve myhealth, I discovered that the nickel in stainless steel was affecting me adversely.I began searching for "nickel-free" stainless steel, and in a round about way, my Google Searches led me to the Silit brand of "allergy-free cookware".Amazon.com had the best price that I could find, so I ordered the 9 inch and the 11 inch "Fry and Serve Pans".
They are on the heavy side (they weight the same as cast iron).This is a bit of a challenge with the 11 inch Fry and Serve as I am trying to get the contents out and into a storage container.
I was nervous that they would fail to live up to the "non-stick" claim lucky for me, that fear was unwarranted.They are wonderfully "non-stick" (it is like cooking on glass).Clean up is a breeze.
And Wow are they Beautiful!The colors in my kitchen are yellow, blue and green.I may have to buy a pot hanger, and find a reason to buy a blue and a yellow Silit cookware piece so that I can display them coordinating with my kitchen colors!
Stoneline WX-9176 2-Piece Fry Pan Set
Stoneline WX-9176 2-Piece Fry Pan SetAfter reading some of the other reviews and of course watching the infomercials I was epxecting miracles. I didn't get them.
To be frank I've only used one of these pans once but the results merited this review.
I don't expect the preformance to improve with time.
I did season the pans according to the directions and used the larger one to make a large omlet. I expected the omlet to simply slide out of the pan. It did not and required a bit of encouragement. I was a little surprised at the "residue" that stayed behind in the pan.
The pan was placed off to the side away from a heat source.
After we finished the meal (omlet was fine but no different than any other) I immediately went to the pan fully expecting to wipe it out with a paper towel. That didn't happen either.
I ended up having to soak the pan for a few minutes and then scrub it out with an all putpose non-scratch type scrubber sponge. A few places required a tiny bit of work.
I guess the pans are OK but in no way did this one live up to the hype.
I consider it to be middle of the road non-stick cookware at best. I've used many other non-stick pans that I liked better.
Honestly I regret the purchase and wish I'd stayed with stainless or cast iron.
And incidentally although Stoneline calls this is a "German product" on their website, I find this deliberately misleading.
The pans are made in China.
I'm not a culinary professional but a good home cook. Pan was used on a high-end gas range.
I am a retired food service professional with over 23 years experience.
Saw the ads for the Stonedine and balked at buying a whole $300 set.
One review I read stated that the Stonedine and Stoneline pans are made by the same manufacturer.So I gave the Stoneline pans a try. Stoneline WX-9176 2-Piece Fry Pan Set
It took a looong time for them to arrive, but I have to say they under-promised and over-delivered as the items arrived well before the original estimated ship date.
Received my pans in excellent condition and could not wait to give them a go.So after washing and seasoning according to directions, I made a two egg cheese omelette inthe small pan with absolutely no oil in the pan.
Once the eggs set up a bit, I was able to flip the omelette with a flick of the wrist.I purposely let the cheese weep out of the omelette a bit and then let it brown. The whole shebang slid out of the pan and onto the plate with ease. It was easily the best I've ever made, and I've made tens of thousands of them.
Oh, and once done with my snack and the pan had cooled a bit,I cleaned it with a soapy PAPER TOWEL, not that it even needed that.
I am thoroughly impressed and can't wait to make pancakes in it.
Although, obviously, I can't speak as to the durability of the coating, it seems pretty robust and time will tell.If one doesn't have to pry food off the bottom of the pan to turn it or use a scouring pad to clean it, it seems to follow that the surface should last indefinitely.Best fry pan I've ever used.
That being said, I can't imagine why one would need the stock pot or some of the other offerings with this coating.The fry pans, however, are a home run.
I bought my stoneline pans a year and a half ago. The larger one is used more often and has many scratches. I have only used plastic or silicon utensils and always washed with a sponge or rag. There are bubbles which I can only imagine come from the medium-high temperatures. I read another review just now that also had the bubbles on her large pan. Lastly, once I made a dish with either paprika or red tomato sauce the pan never came totally clean again. It is discolored much like plastic that goes through the dishwasher after spaghetti night. My smaller one looks great, but in a family our size we rarely use the tiny pan. I wouldn't be so annoyed except that they cost so much most and promise so much.
1. I bought the 2-piece fry pan set because of all the positive revues on Amazon.
2. I assumed that the pan was made in Europe but the label on the box said China. Amazon
should indicate if a product is made in China. I do not want things from China.
3. I,ve used the large pan a lot and after about 6 months, I noticed small bumps on the
frying surface like air bubbles. I,ve always rinsed the pan in hot water and scrubbed
it down with a soft sponge. The bumps have increased in number after each use and I
have rubbed the pan down with oil and paper towel and bits of coating have been coming
off on the paper towel. The pan in the area where the bumps were is now turning into
a big white splotch.
4. I am still using the pan although I am not sure if it is safe to do so. The pan did
perform well for 6 months or so but I will be looking for a new pan soon.
5. For the price I paid, I do not recommend this pan to others.
6. I have bought many items from Amazon and this is the first time that I have been
dissappointed.
Want Stoneline WX-9176 2-Piece Fry Pan Set Discount?
I purchased the Stoneline set of rather over-priced pan set because I was a "victim of advertisement": I was impressed with some TV ads showing the guy scratching the pan's surface with some very rough objects (knives, even sand paper, I think!) and the surface remained undamaged. I was also impressed with numerous reviews indicating that one can use little or even no oil on it and still nothing sticks to the pan's surface.
Here are some of my observations/comments:
1. For some reason, I though it will be true "made in U.S. of A." stuff and it turned to be your regular Chinese mass-production
2. I don't like the way the handle is attached to the pan: it is not loose yet but once it gets loose (unavoidably), there is no way to fix it
3. The surface is NOT as resistant as advertisement say: after two weeks of use, I've noticed the bigger pan having some minor scratches on the surface and I never used knife, forks or sand paper on it just Teflon-made kitchen spatulas
4. Eggs and pasta do stick to the surface no mirakles
5. It takes much longer time to preheat these pans; therefore, in the morning, when I am making my omelet, I have to start 3-5 min. earlier
6. The size of the small pan is a little too small, but hte big one is okay.
7. Over-priced
8. Over-advertised
There is something positive about it, too:
1. The handle, while being made of metal, is not getting hot regardless of how long you use the pan
2. The design is very appealing
3. The pan's bottoms ARE flat and have 100% contact with the stove's surface
Epicurean Kitchen Utensils Angled Turner
Epicurean Kitchen Utensils Angled Turner, SlateI love the Epicurean Kitchen Utensils. I got the cutting board and I love it so when I saw this on amazon, I just want to get it because the turner I got from another brand is silicon and it has been melting a little because of the high temperature. This material is so nice, I think it's better than the regular bamboo. I like stirred frying stuff with this turner, but when it comes to picking up the food, it's a little bit tough since the turner is designed like this. It's straight and it's a little bit too small to pick up a lot of food from the pan.
These were priced right and were additions to the bamboo utensils I already had.
Most of my cookware is not non-stick, but I try to take good care of the pieces that are.
They serve the purpose and the dark color keeps them looking new longer.
