Presto 5900 1500-Watt Stainless-Steel Electric Wok

Presto 5900 1500-Watt Stainless-Steel Electric WokI was considering buying the Breville EW30XL wok but balked at the non-stick surface scratching issues that I'd read other consumers were experiencing. In all fairness to Breville this is what they wrote me about the non-stick scratching issue people are experiencing:

The coating used in our EW30XL is a very high quality coating called Quantanium, made by Whitford. We recommend using wooden utensils and avoiding the use of excessive oil. This product has less than a 1% defective rate currently.

I pondered buying the Breville EW30XL but ended up buying the Presto 5900 Stainless Steel Wok. I figured no matter how careful I'd be with the EW30XL it'd eventually become scratched due to my negligence just like the rest of my other non-scratch surface type kitchen pans.

I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong with the Breville EW30XL wok given the proper care and attention.

A few days after I purchased the Presto 5900 Stainless Steel Wok I tried out one of the recipes that came with the instructions and it came out great (Chicken with Snow Peas, Carrots and Bean Sprouts). The vegetables came out nice and crisp and the chicken wasn't tough or dried out. It was a big improvement over the way I used to cook stir fry which was cooking with a traditional wok, the kind with the ring that the wok sits on while it's cooking on the range. I cooked over a natural gas range that wasn't calorific enough to provide the satisfactory results needed for a good stir fry. This resulted in everything I stir fried coming out lukewarm and mushy.

One thing you'll have to pay attention to when you're cooking with the Presto 5900 Stainless Steel Wok, is that you'll have to have all of your "ducks in a row". In other words, you can't be reading the recipe trying to figure out what happens next in the recipe or cutting ingredients while the Presto wok is sizzling away at 375 degrees temp ... you might over-stir fry whatever you're cooking at the time.

The Presto 5900 Stainless Steel Wok is a nice unit and I can't wait to try other recipes with it. After so many years I've finally been able to enjoy a hot stir fried meal instead of my usual lukewarm and mushy stir fry. I really enjoyed that.

I almost forgot ... the short cord wasn't a problem for me, in fact, if it was any longer I'd have a conflict with all of the other cooking things I have clutteredon my counter top. I'd end up with a tangled, coiled up mess if the cable was any longer. In fact, the length was perfect. That doesn't mean the short cable length will work for everyone as we've read in the other reviews, so, you'd have to see for yourself to make the final decision. A small extension cord will fix any cable length issue so itshouldn't be a problem.

Good luck, everyone, regardless of what you end up buying.

I bought this wok because it was stainless steel as a non-stick version would have to be replaced much sooner because of the interior. This wok is very nice looking. It heats quickly with much of the outside area remaining cool to the touch. Clean-up is a breeze. The electrical cord is short but I use an extention cord to get it away from my cupboards.I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

I was reluctant to spend so much money on this wok, but after scratching my way through two inexpensive, non-scratch, I decided to take the chance.I'm very happy that I did.It heats quickly and evenly, and is surprisingly easy to clean. The only thing keeping this from having a five-star rating is the short cord.I understand that it must be short for safety reasons, but a just few more inches would be nice for placing the wok a bit farther from the wall.

If you found this review using a search engine, you are probably VERY interested

in how many quarts this thing holds.I was, when I researched woks, and NOWHERE

on the net was this listed.Sure, the dimensions are there but that includes handles, etc.I was trying to replace a 7 quart wok and might have settled for 6, but 5 would have been unacceptable.Someone at Presto really screwed up not providing this critical piece of information in their marketing write ups which are parroted all over the net, including at Amazon.I'm sure it is costing them sales.

Drumroll please......IT HOLDS JUST OVER 7 QUARTS.I almost did not buy this because of the aforementioned mystery but relented since it seemed to fit, in every other way, what I was looking for.I got lucky.

As for other aspects: The cover is real nice. The body is a bit lighter weight than I thought it might be but is acceptable. There are a couple of manufacturing flaws in the body which I will live with (a small deformation bump in the base and a small pit in the side) so don't expect a perfect product. The legs are screwed into the aluminum base and it would be real easy to strip the threads if you are not careful. The instructions warn about that. Two of the legs required tightening right out of the box, not a big deal. The legs smartly have rubber pads on the bottom to prevent slipping on the counter.I will confirm the control cord is short, but that is fine with me.Longer would actually be inconvenient. It seems to heat well, though I don't have a lot of experience with it yet.My needs are not heavy in that area.

Overall I am happy with it and, since it luckily meets my capacity requirements, I am giving it 4 stars. It would have been 5 if I did not have to guess at what I was buying and did not have the very minor flaws in the body.

The day this arrived I gave it the obligatory washing/drying and put it to use.We FINALLY were able to have some very good stir fry that very night.I want to thank other reviewers for accurately reporting that it heats up quickly and does a terrific job of holding heat for stir fry cooking.I especially want to thank those who said this performed as well if not better than non-electric stove top woks.

I've never been a fan of "non-stick" surfaces. They tend to break down.I've been down the "hammered steel" road with woks before and was never satisfied with their performance. The stainless steel finish on this cleans up easily and if you follow the instructions for adding water to the dirty wok and placing the lid on to remove food residue easily, you will not harm the finish.

To the reviewer who didn't like the shortness of the cord:Blame your federal government for that.

Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron Ribbed Fajita Platter Set

Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron Ribbed Fajita Platter SetI bought two and they were better than I expected. The cast-iron pans are perfect for fajitas, but they also work great for a couple of hamburgers, bacon, veggies or anything else you'd like to "grill" on the stove (or on a real grill) when you don't need big, round, cast-iron pan.The top varnish on the wooden pan-holders quickly gets toasted, but that's part of it's charm, it goes with the cast iron. The little pot-holders for the handles are great for the table, but a larger mitt is safer while grilling.NOTE: this IS cast iron and you will need to properly "season" the pans before you first use them to keep food from sticking.

We bouight this set, not just for fajitas, but for meat/veggies after grilling. They work great and keep food hot. Also, the mitts work good when transporting the food to the platters. No unwieldy pot holders to deal with, another nice feature.

I had always wanted to buy sizzler platters, but since I needed three, I was looking for the right price, which I found at amazon. I followed the instructions very carefully before use so that they will last me for a long time. The wooden base and the handle holders make it very convenient and comfortable to hold. We use them atleast once a week and enjoy homemade sizzlers.

This is probably one of the best purchases I have made for our kitchen in some time.

What else can I say that hasn't already been said. These Mr. Bar-B-Q Cast-Iron Ribbed Fajita Platter Set pansare handy for everything. I love ordering skillet breakfasts in restaurants now I can make them at home and keep them hot!

Before you consider buying them from Target for $21.99 check them out from Amazon at $10.99 and get two instead of one, plus free S&H if your order is over $25.

It really helps the presentation for serving fajitas.I would recomend buying more than one if you want to serve more than one person, or two light eaters. The pour spouts work great, and seasoning this was much easier than my Dutch oven.

T-fal A8261464 Specialty Nonstick 6.5-Inch Mini-Cheese Griddle Cookware, Black

T-fal A8261464 Specialty Nonstick 6.5-Inch Mini-Cheese Griddle Cookware, BlackThis square, mini, non-stick griddle is just perfect for singles, single grilled cheese sandwiches, single french toast, single eggs, and just about everything you want to grill and even fry for a single serving. The non stick is easily wiped clean with a damp soapy cloth after the pan cools. It cooks and browns evenly and is the perfect addition for both home and the mini camper.

The reason that I bought this pan was because I needed a good/cheap frying pan to take camping. The light frying pans that I found in the specialty stores were expensive, and the bottom and non-stick coating did not look robust enough for frying. This little pan seem to fit the bill. It weighs 7.4oz, and the griddle with the low-rise edges give me enough room to use a spatula and fry two eggs. The back high edge allow me to spatula/spoon stuff up against it. I have used it at home for daily cooking chores and it works great. It feels balanced on top of my Snow Peak portable burner.

I had difficulty trying to find the 6 inch griddle and was successful only on Amazon.com. My old griddle was so worn out that the Teflon was starting to wear. This size is perfect for making a single sandwich. Love it.

This is the perfect size for a single grilled sandwich or a sole boneless chicken breast or file for one.

Other than now being totally depressed over the fact that I apparently eat alone way too often, I have to rave that this pan cooks well and heats evenly, cleans up with little muss (use a non-abrasive cleanser, very hot water and a dish brush for anything trickier than grease) and stores virtually anywhere.

Another bonus for this is that it makes perfect, square crepes -which I use instead of boxed pasta tubes (a motherland no-no) when making fresh manicotti.

Which I also seem to do in great number, surprisingly often for a guy who admittedly makes a regular habit of the Lonely Gal Meal Alone in the Dark.

Stansport Cast Iron 6 Piece Cookware Set

Stansport Cast Iron 6 Piece Cookware SetI put "cast iron cookware" on my Christmas list last year, and my husband got me this. First off, it's not very smooth, even after a year of continual use. I very carefully clean and re-season my cast iron after each use. Still, if I rub a paper towel over any of it, I'll have little bits of lint stuck all over it. My two Lodge pieces, which are newer, don't do that they're much smoother. Also, this stuff is made in China. That doesn't sit well with me (I frankly can't believe my husband got me China stuff when we're trying so hard to get rid of chemicals and questionable items like this, but there you have it). Until someone can tell me that there is 100% absolutely no lead or other crap in there that the Chinese don't seem to mind tossing into things to make a buck or two, I'll always wonder. I'm slowly replacing all my Stansport stuff with Lodge for the above reasons. So I basically gave this stuff three stars because it holds my food well as I'm cooking. My two Lodge pieces are different sizes than the ones in this set and I use them whenever I can. I'll slowly switch out all these pieces too. And no, I don't work for Lodge. I happen to own the two brands and I like Lodge better for the aforementioned reasons.

I was really impressed with these. I loved the easy clean and the way they cook.More expensive pots and pans have a certain evenness in the heat when cooking. The metal core of the pan/pot dissipates the heat evenly.I've bought cheap pans that will have certain areas of the pan that burn food while other areas do not get hot. These work just as good as expensive copper core pots/pans at a bargain price. My only beef was that the must have been sitting a for a long time in some dirty warehouse. They arrived pretty dirty. Not a biggie though.I cleaned and seasoned them.Gonna BBQ with these this Summer! :-)

One of the items listed in this set is a 5 quart chicken fryer. This chicken fryer is not large enough to hold a chicken and in fact only holds 2.5 quarts. This is decieving and wrong.I measured the volume with water and rust appeared in the fryer and dutch oven after I measured them. The seasoning was not complete. The handles are very short also.I now understand why the set appeared to be a good value. It's a good price, but you don't get what you think you're getting.I'm going back to Old Mountain cookware.

Ikea Kavalkad Frying Pan Set of 2, Black Teflon Classic Non-stick Coating

Ikea Kavalkad Frying Pan Set of 2, Black Teflon Classic Non-stick CoatingLike most people are, I was sceptical about buying this because it was so inexpensive but I'm glad I did. I've made eggs, bacon, French toast, and a bunch of other food items in these pans and nothing will stick to them. Be very careful about the utensils you use because metal will scratch these easily (minus one star) but if you use nylon then there should be no problem. These are built sturdy also unlike a lot of other inexpensive pans. I recommend giving these a try before dropping large amounts of money on other pans.

Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set

Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set ()The first thing I noticed about this cookware set is that it was hard to distinguish, just from looks, what was different about it versus any odd skillet/pot you see in department stores. It was metal, fairly thick, felt sturdy enough and advertised itself to be non-stick. Oh, how many times have a bought a skillet that said it was "non-stick" or "teflon coated", when in fact the outer layer of the food (usually fish in my case) would burn on, leaving the fish filleted prematurely. Sure it did not stick, but what was on the skillet after I had finished cooking left me wishing it was not so "non-stick".

However, for all of Circulon's set similarities to other brands, it quickly distinguished itself apart from them when I began using it.

Cooking:

When cooking my usual salmon patty, on medium settings, for about 9 minutes a side (not using any olive oil/non-stick spray), I not only noticed my patty was not sticking or having a partial layer burned on skillet, but how evenly cooked it was. On previous skillets, I have noticed an uneven distribution in heat, leaving parts burned and others faintly cooked. Usually I made up for this by moving the patty, or skillet around. With this set, I was able to place the skillet in the middle of the burner, and all parts of the patty where cooked evenly, so that I spent less time adjusting. This made the cooking time faster, and the quality of my cooking better. To add more on the "non-stick": After I had finished, it barely looked as if I used it, and flipped and moved better than if it was coated in non-stick spray/butter. Best skillet I have used by far.

Boiling/Simmering:

When using pots to boil/simmer rice, one thing I look for not to happen is if the cover's seal is not exactly even, so that some steam and/or water seeps or falls out the side. Also, when rice is sitting for long periods of time (up to an hour), the handles can get pretty warm, so that it is almost startling to pick it up after it is ready. With this set, the lids did not have any imperfections, and sealed very tightly. The handles on the lids are kept in place by a screw on the bottom side, so it is easy to adjust should it ever come loose. Also this entire set's handles come with a covering of rubber that completely eliminates "too hot for the touch" handles after long periods of cooking. I compared this by touching the piece of steel that was not covered with rubber, and comparing it to the part that was. Let's just say the latter was room temperature and the former was scorching. Great to be able to move these without the use of those awkward oven mits.

With things as simple as pots and pans, you wonder how anyone can mess up the basic uses for such. However, with issues such as burned on food, sticky food, hot handles and leaky tops, you have to be picky with the set you choose. For me, and especially for my cooking, I look for perfection from my cooking utensils because I can, and definitely will, make mistakes doing the actual cooking. I need no help for my cookware. What I saw with this Circulon set was not an impediment on my cooking, but an unexpected helper in that it did exactly what I wanted it too and nothing that I did not intend. My cooking is faster and better with this set--and that is my review in a nutshell.

()Firstly, let me start by listing what this cookware set contains.

CONTENTS:

* 1qt saucepan, with glass cover

* 2qt saucepan, with glass cover

* 8qt stockpot, with glass cover

* 3qt saute pan, with glass cover (cover also fits 10" skillet)

* 8" skillet

* 10" skillet

SURFACES:

* Exterior:Heavy gauge, anodized brushed metal aluminum and seem very durable, but I have not had this cookware long enough to attest to that.

* Interior:The cooking surface is coated with Dupont Autograph NonStick. The advertising sticker says it is "Metal Utensil Safe" but I have only used nylon utensils. The small concentric grooves in the bottom of each pot and pan is what I imagine to be Circulon's "Total Food Release System."

* Fried Egg Test: I heated a pan and broke an egg onto it without any oil or cooking spray, to test the effectiveness of the non-stick surface and the "Total Food Release System."I let the egg cook completely, sunny side up, then lifted it out.Although it did cling a little bit as I worked my spatula under it (my egg was a little pushed out of shape and scrunched up), the fully cooked egg did lift out without sticking to the surface. This was a test, but I believe a little oil would help tremendously in every day cooking.

* Cleaning: The pan from my Fried Egg Test cleaned up quickly and easily in a sink of hot soapy water and a soft dishcloth. No elbow grease needed.Although you do have to pay particular attention to cleaning in the direction of the grooves (ie: in a circular fashion) or you could leave particles. This set is not dishwasher safe!

COVERS (LIDS):

* These glass lids are very nice, and the handles are a work of art. They are advertised as shatter-resistant, but I would still not like to drop one on my tile floor! There are no steam vents in the covers.

HANDLES:

* The stainless steel handles have silicone grips and tips. They stay cool when in use, so you won't need a potholder to pick one up.Nestled in the tip of each handle is a pull-out metal ring, should you prefer to store your cookware in a hanging position. This ring stays hidden in the tip if you prefer to store them flat.Oven safe to 400F degrees.

MY BIGGEST GRIPE IS:

* The misaligned fit of the handles to the curvature of the pans/pots.

There is a small gap between the exterior surface and where the handle is fastened. This imprecise fit allows dishwater to flood into the handle during cleanup. The stainless steel handles are hollow (I assume to cut weight), so it takes ages for the inner section to dry completely.Even when left overnight to dry on my countertop, tilting the handle the next day resulted a small puddle of water. A silicone grommet between the two pieces (the same asthere is between the glass cover and its handle) would have completely eliminated this issue, but instead, it's just very disappointing; shoddy workmanship marring an otherwise great cookware set.See for yourself: I have uploaded a User Photo to show this flaw.

CONCLUSION:

Overall, this seems to be a very good cookware set for everyday use.The handle flaw, however, negates a perfect 5-star score. Also, I cannot attest to the longevity of this set because I have had it less than a week.I cook every day, so I intend to give it a lot of use! Finally, in case anyone needs to know, this cookware set is Made in China.

Buy Circulon Contempo Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set Now

()I originally chose to review the Circulon Contempo 10-Piece hard anodized cookware set as an interesting project, but knew I was getting a "cheap" cookware set.Compared to the copper core stainless cookware set we currently use, this set is definitely less expensive.I couldn't purchase one piece of our current set for the price of the entire 10 piece Circulon Contempo set. But, does the price this set indicate poor quality?

The Circulon Contempo 10 piece hard anodized cookware set comes with 8" and 10" sauté pans,1 and 2 Qt covered saucepans, a 3 Qt covered sautoir (straight sided sauté pan), and an 8 Qt covered stockpot. The lid for either the stockpot or covered sautoir also fits the 10" sauté pan.The clear shatter resistant tempered glass lids boast decorative silicon and stainless steel handles and stainless steel rims. The pans, oven safe to 400°, uses basic professional construction withcomfortable silicone and stainless steel handles and include the metal utensil safe hard anodized food release system with high low wave technology.

Caring for this set is pretty simple.Avoid sliding the pans on the cook top, and use a similarly sized burner.Store pans separated with paper towels to prevent scratching.Don't use nonstick sprays or vegetable oil, olive or peanut oil is preferred if desired.Don't cut with sharp knives or poke with pointed items in the pans.Don't use oven cleaners; make a paste from baking soda and water to remove stains.Don't boil dry or consistently use high heat.Lastly, don't wash this cookware set in the dishwasher, including the lids.

The Contempo's care seems typical, except for not being dishwasher safe. The first thing I did when I got home was to load this set into the dishwasher and let it run. Then I read the pamphlet telling me not to.Oops! The pamphlet indicates using the dishwasher can ruin the nonstick qualities of the pans as well as causing discoloration. When I unloaded the dishwasher, the set seemed fine, but the silicone handles were an ugly pasty gray.No worries though, after using and hand washing, the original color returned to the handles.

The sturdy metal and silicon handles have a good grip, and are comfortable to use.The long double riveted stainless steel with silicone handles on the pots includes a fold out ring for hanging. The handle rings pop out freely, but are taught to prevent movement during use.The lid's handles flare out at the sides and arc on the top. This decorative handle looks nice, but their 2" height is higher than any of the lids I currently have. This really isn't a problem until placing a lidded pot into the oven. The 3/4" taller handles on top of the domed lids have a higher profile than the lids for our other sets. This makes a big difference in oven rack placement and how much I can fit into our 27" wall ovens.

The Circulon Contempo cookware set cooks much better than I expected. They heat up quickly and evenly distribute heat. The sauté pans are adequately curved for flipping food, and the handles stay cool to the touch on the cook top.The TOTAL food release system consists of circular ridges on the bottom of the pans, and works remarkably well. The glass lids reduce moisture or steam escaping by allowing full view of the pot's contents.Plus, while I would prefer sticking everything in the dishwasher, cleaning is a simple task.

If you are looking for an inexpensive quality nonstick cookware set, give the Circulon Contempo hard anodized 10 piece cookware set consideration. This set's even heating and quality construction is made to last and perform well.Plus, backed by the Good Housekeeping seal of approval and a lifetime customer satisfaction guarantee, this cookware set is sure to please.

PROS:

Oven safe to 400°

Hard anodized TOTAL food release system

Safe for use with metal utensils

Suitable for use on solid plate, ceramic, gas, radiant ring, and halogen cook tops

Fold out ring for hanging

CONS:

Decorative handle a bit too tall

()We've had the Circulon 10-piece set for a few months now and I'm still quite happy with the quality of the set. The construction is solid and the nonstick surface is holding up well. The lids are fine, although the handles are just a bit too tall for them to fit well in storage and that would be okay if they weren't a kind of weird shape that doesn't make a better grip with the added height. The soft grip handles of the pans are nice, but the hanging ring in the end is more difficult to grasp sometimes. Hanging the pans from a hook is a two-handed operation. A minor quibble to be sure.

There is a nice selection of pots and pans, although as I said it's not complete. We definitely had to buy an additional larger 12" skillet. A 10" skillet is just not big enough to cook a meal for four or five easily. A 10" pan would require at least another round of cooking to make enough chicken breasts or pork chops, for example, for everyone.

Eggs in the new skillets are a dream to make as they slide right out of the pan, although I'm aware that all non-stick pans are as slick as ice when they're brand new. The question is how long they stay non-stick (because they all wear out eventually). Several months in they're just as slick as the day we got them. Only time will tell how long that lasts. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Clean up is also a breeze although the bottoms of the pans tend to stain, which is expected.

I'm not a huge fan of non-stick stockpots and sauce pans only because they're often so dark from the coating as to make seeing the food difficult, but the ability to keep sauces from sticking is nice. My wife makes oatmeal in the small sauce pan every morning and it always cleans up lickety split. If you've ever had to laboriously scrape cemented oatmeal out of a small pan that has been sitting in the sink all day, you'll appreciate how wonderful this is.

The weight of the pans is just right too. They're not too heavy to carry one-handed with food in them, but not so light that they feel cheap or that they cause scorching on the burner. I don't believe the bottoms are clad, but they are heavy-duty enough to smooth out heat fluctuations.

So in the end I would definitely recommend the Circulon Contempo set as a good starter kit of cookware for the beginner to intermediate cook. There are more expensive sets to be sure and they are sometimes better because of the expense, but most cooks don't need to spend so much. The Circulon set is a good compromise between cost and utility.

()If you've read my other reviews on Amazon, you know that I primarily review items related to entertainment (DVDs, CDs and books), but I also cook ( I do have to eat, right?) so when this set showed up on the Amazon "Vine" program list, I decided to give the set a chance.

I've had it for about five days and tested out a few of the various utensils. Overall they are sturdy and I really like the rubberized handles that keep the handles cool, but only time will tell how well they wear. Until now my cooking vessels have been a 35 year old set of Farberware pots and a trusty Cusinart large frying pan. Oh yes, there an old 9-in Teflon covered pan that I use only for omelets.

So here are my experiences over the last few days: First I used the small covered put to cook my "non-instant" Quaker Oatmeal for breakfast. With my similar sized Farberware pot, some of the oatmeal would stick to the sides and require a bit of soaking to remove the egg. With the Circulon pot I noticed that it didn't stick but unlike the Farberware the milk in the oatmeal formed a "skin" and didn't mix well with the oatmeal. Of course, this only applied if you cook something with milk but it was a bit annoying. When finished cooking the pot cleaned easily. The biggest problem with this pot was the lid. As noted in an earlier review, by another reviewer, the handle on the glass lid is held in place with a Phillips-head screw. Well, when I was rinsing off the lid on the small pot , I felt a "prick" in my finger and looked and found that where the X indentation is made in the screw head, the metal was not smooth but rough and actually scrapped my finger. I checked the other lids in the set and they were smoother, but I was surprised at the lack of quality control from this company. I don't know how Amazon deals with situations like this but I wanted to alert users to check their sets as this could be dangerous.

Another thing I noticed was that the handles on all the pots (including the small one I tested) are angled up rather than being perpendicular to the side of the pot or pan. This might take some getting used to when lifting and pouring from them. It felt unusual to me.

Next I tried the frying pan to make an omelet. Usually I scramble an egg in a bowl and then place in my Teflon pan which I preheated and added a little bit of Pam. I "jiggle" the pan to help the egg cook, add a bit of cheese, cover, turn off heat and wait 1 to 2 minutes. The eggs always slide off easily with nothing left in the pan. When I tried this with the Circulon pan, I noticed that "jiggling" the pan didn't move the egg much even in a circular motion. So I had to use a spatula and this broke the roundness of the "omelet". After I removed the "omelet", there were small pieces of egg still stuck in the grooves that these pans have. Running the pan under water with a sponge did remove the leftover pieces but I've never had that problem with the 15-year old Teflon one.

I plan to do some meat frying in the pans shortly and hope to return to modify this review to report on those experiences.

Overall I like the look of the set and you do get a lot of pieces of cookware for the money. I know most cookware goes on "sale" regularly so the "retail price" is probably misleading. But for a starter set this collection is probably a good choice. I just highly suggest that examine all your pieces for sharp metal edges or possible openings (such as a handle noted by one other previous reviewer) and have those deficiencies corrected.

Also be aware that, unlike aluminum cookware, the Circulon pieces are heavy to lift. That makes them sturdy but those with arthritis (not me) may have a problem lifting and pouring from them.

Tramontina Set of 3 Saute Pans

Tramontina Set of 3 Saute PansI got this 3 piece set for 20 bucks from a local store. It is the right kind of heavy in my opinion. The Cook's Illustrated highly recommends the 12 inch skillet. And I can see why. They cook evenly and are super easy to clean. I never wash them in the dishwasher though, so my skillets have very few scratches despite heavy use for past 6 months. Sometimes I get scorch stains on the bottom of the pan but they always come off with a little elbow grease. These are the best non stick skillets that I have ever owned.

These pans have heavy duty riveted handles, cook well, ez to clean. They are Made in the USA by your neighbors!

My wife likes having three sizes.

I've been buying non-stick cookware since it first came out. I will say that I always use a tiny bit of oil in the pan, because food cooked without oil is not very tasty to me. MANY of the Teflon pans I bought years ago lasted less than a year before they began to discolor and get scratches in them. Even the high-dollar Calphalon pan began to stick and get a rough surface after about 2 months. The Emeril steel pans did not perform as promised and were like all others, requiring overnight soaking with baking soda to loosen the stuck food, followed by a rubbing with Barkeeper's Friend, to make it shine. I finally accepted the fact that non-stick cookware is like a cardboard box -it won't last forever, so don't think of it as the last pan you'll ever buy; it will have to be replaced frequently. My main objective became finding a non-stick pan that will last longer than a few weeks before it starts clinging to food. I bought my first Tramontina pan a couple of years ago, and it remained smooth and functional for over two years, and I used it daily. The exterior of the pan, coated with something amazing, also remained clean over that time. It finally got one tiny scratch in it, which didn't affect the efficiency of it, but I decided it was getting old, and who knows what happens over time to the chemical structure of the surface itself? So I bought this set of three a few months ago, and they still look like they just came out of the packaging. They do a wonderful job on everything I cook in them (and I DO use HIGH heat, even though instructions warn against it). They do not discolor over at least two years. The surface does not begin to get a sandpaper texture to it, like the Teflon pans always did. And the first one I had was still stick-free after two years. If you want a pan that you can hand down to your grandchildren, buy cast iron or stainless steel, but you will need to buy plenty of steel wool (for the iron) and a case of Barkeeper's Friend (for the steel). This is the best non-stick I have found. It cooks evenly, cleans easily, and outlasts any others I've tried.

I bought these from a local store about a year ago...they are fantastic!!! I use the small one the most for breakfast everyday and it still looks like new. I even turned around and bought a set for a gift for my brother and sister-n-law. Best skillets I have ever owned!!

I bought this set at Costco (Sorry, Amazon, but they had it cheaper) after reading reviews of the product. So far I have been very, very happy with the purchase. The pans are a nice size assortment and have a good feel to them; I also like the rubber handles. Granted the pans don't have lids, but you can purchase an all-sizes lid on Amazon or any kitchen-ey type place. Sure, I don't know how long they will last, but in their price range they seem to be of above-average quality. I'm more than content with them. Be sure to season the pans, as the manufacturer recommends, which takes less than five minutes.

Vollrath Carbon Steel 12 1/2" Fry Pan

Vollrath Carbon Steel 12 1/2' Fry PanI just bought this pan and started using it after it was seasoned. There is one issue that is bugging me about that pan.The bottom has a convex shape instead of a flat or even concave like a Chinese Wok.The net result is that the oil flows to the edge of the pan, so I find that I had use more oil to cover the pan.

Does anyone know if the DeBuyer pan have the same physical characteristic as far as the pan bottom goes? The pan is still useable, but I have to use a little more oil than I like.

My wife and I have become grossed out with peeling non-stick pans and tired of replacing them every year or two. I love iron frying pans (I buy antique ones on Ebay which are far better than any you can get new) but you can't saute or toss in a heavy iron pan. I bought this as an experiment gone well. The bottom is dead flat and the curved sides work well. It has seasoned nicely and is non-stick in the way a properly cared for iron pan is. I use it all the time. The handle is very long which is good for tossing and keeping your hand away from the hot part but the long handle makes it hard to fit in small storage areas. I expect it to last a lifetime just like the iron pans. I scrub it out with hot water and a plastic scrubber (no soap), dry it and keep a film of oil on it so it doesn't rust.

If you want a carbon steel fry pan, this is an excellent option. It's reasonably inexpensive, quite solid, and works well on the range and baked or broiled in the oven. This is a standard French/professional kitchen item that requires seasoning and good cleaning. But nothing stands up to high temperature cooking as well as these.

Ballarini Rialto Try Me Fry Pan, 8-Inch

Ballarini Rialto Try Me Fry Pan, 8-InchI've been using this pan for a little over a decade now and the non-stick coating has yet to chip or crack. This feat in and of itself is amazing because I don't take every good care of any of my cookware like I should. My pan has been dropped too many times to count, thrown in the dishwasher almost every time, scoured when particularly tough food is stuck on, and has been scraped with forks and spoons when cooking. There are only thing that has ever stuck to my pan is when I cook scrambled eggs, but even then I just let the pan cool and most of it scrapes away. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product and will be buying a bigger fry pan as soon as my college budget allows :)

Great Product and will order a larger one in the future. No oil is needed and eggs cook up perfectly.

Clipper 215-00040 4-Cup Measuring Cup

Clipper 215-00040 4-Cup Measuring CupGood looking 4 cup measuring cup. Exactly as described and pictured. Easy to read measuring lines and looks to suit it's purpose. If using other than in the kitchen, not quite certain how durable it may be if you happen to drop on ceramic or cement floors. Nice silicone handle cover to boot. As long as your careful with handling, I'm certain it will hold up just fine. Description indicates freezer and dishwasher safe but, NON MICROWAVABLE(which isn't indicated). Then again, not quite certain if there may be a plastic measuring cup which would withstand a microwave(If intended for microwave use, a glass measuring cup would be a wiser investment). Measuring points appear to be accurate, if not, as close to accurate as possible. Only time will tell if the measuring points will rub off or not(after repeated washings). Nevertheless, I consider these minor details and not worth knocking off a star for. So, IMO this one gets 5 stars. Certainly well worth the price. It will suit my needs for both liquid and dry measure quite well. Would recommend!

Look better than in picture , for the price, it is a good M-Cup , the sturdy acrylic is slight tinted in blue , looks like a glass , really like it , I got 2 of them because of lower budged at this moment and wow , I like to be surprised like that !

The Vinaroz Valencia Series 9-1/2-Inch Non Stick Marble Coating Aluminum Frying Pan

The Vinaroz Valencia Series 9-1/2-Inch Non Stick Marble Coating Aluminum Frying PanI have been using this frying pan for about two months with excellent results. The more I use it the better it gets. There seems to be a small break in period in the beginning. I own other non stick marble coated cookware for a long time and they are still going strong and have far outlasted any teflon coated pans.

Texsport Cast Iron Griddle - 9-1/2-Inch x 20-Inch

Texsport Cast Iron Griddle - 9-1/2-Inch x 20-InchGreat Griddle.Fits my coleman camp stove perfectly. Item was shipped in sturdy box.It had no cracks or defects of any kind. The coating came of fairly easy.I lite my charcol grill off and heated it up over a hot bed of coals.Using oven mitts, I wiped of the coating with a paper towel.Repated the process afew times waiting about five minutes between wipes. Then, while coals were still hot, seasoned griddle with several coatings of bacon grease and left on grill till the coals were out and griddle was cool to the touch.Have take camping several times and have no complaints.

This is a great product. It is NOT seasoned.I put mine on our grill, wiped away the wax sealant (not much at all), poured oil on both sides and let it cook. After 15 min. it was already getting dark.I turned it a few times, added a bit more oil.All in all it did not take long or much effort and it turned out great. It is large and I've cooked pizzas on it (though it's obviously not meant for that. An iron pizza pan is more expensive though).

Love it.

I purchased this griddle to use on a gas range.I rinsed the griddle lightly with water, dried it with a paper towel, and then put it in the oven, first on 350F for about 10 minutes, then 400F for about 10 minutes.I removed the griddle from the oven (using thickly padded pot holders), wiped off the liquid waxy substance with paper towels, oiled the griddle on both sides with olive oil, using folded paper towels to wipe it down, and then put the griddle back in the oven on 400F, 450F, then 400F.It took about 1-1/2 hours for the whole seasoning process.I then used the griddle to make a batch of pancakes for freezing.Pancakes were perfect, no sticking.I used a light coating of nonstick pan spray also just before pouring the mix.Later on, I used the griddle (grill side up) to make a ham and cheese panini. It worked perfectly!Fits the gas range just right.Nice price, too :)I should mention that I placed a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil on the oven rack and put the griddle directly on it to catch the liquid wax during the first 20 minutes in the oven.I removed the foil for the rest of the seasoning process.

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized Saute Pan with Helper Handle and Lid

Cuisinart 633-30H Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 5-1/2-Quart Saute Pan with Helper Handle and LidIf you are looking for a non-stick saute pan this is a great deal. The pan heats quickly and evenly, so keep the heat at medium and lower. The handle stays cool enough to handle, and the see through lid is great for viewing the food, or keeping the moisture in for some braising.

The pan is more difficult to get a good browning than a stainless, but only because it has the non-stick coat. Also makes very good pan sauces, again not with the depth of flavor you'd get from the searing a stainless pan would provide.

The non-stick holds up well, but I only use nylon or wood utensils. Any non-stick can gouge if metal utensils are used aggressively.

I have several Cuisinart pans, and they all work wonderfully for me.

We purchased this to use on a glass top stove, and found that the pan was not flat.

We assume that not all are bowed, but ours was.

I very thoroughly researched all the nonstick hard-anodized products out there and decided on Cuisinart because it had the most vesatile product selection. The 5-1/2 quart saute pan is the bomb!!!It heats faster, cooks faster, and clean-up is a breeze. The first time I used it, I cooked a stove-top dish I have cooked many times, but because the hard-anodized cooks faster and hotter, I neglected to turn the heat down to accommodate this and the whole meal was burned and I thought to myself, Oh, great! the first time you use the pan, you ruin it by burning the pan.Well I took it to the sink to pour out the remnants that were not burned and had anticipiated that I would have to soak and scrub the pan and when I tipped the pan the entire burned mess just slid out of the pan and it looked as if it had never been cooked in.What a pan!!I LOOOOOOVE this cookware. I bought every piece that Cuisinart offers in this line.BUY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

I picked up a couple of the 3.5 quart saute pans when the price was $15.It does a good job with stir-fry, pan-fry, saute, etc.It is not a really heavy pan, so it is not as durable and won't heat as evenly as a high quality pan.I think it is a great deal for $15.There must be better pans available for $40, though.
