PRESTO COOL TOUCH GRIDDL

PRESTO COOL TOUCH GRIDDLI love making pancakes. In the past I would use two large cast-iron skillets for the task. I found myself constantly adjusting my burner temperature and I would always get a few very dark (or burnt) or a few undercooked pancakes out of each batch. Plus I could only cook two pancakes at a time; one in the center of each skillet (I like making large, perfectly round, 5-6" diameter pancakes.)

After much research, I finally broke down and bought the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle because I liked the enormous cooking area it offered. And I liked the fact that is was made of heavy cast aluminum and that it sat perfectly level (some griddles have sloped cooking decks to allow grease and juices to run away from the foods... NOT desirable when making pancakes or scrambled eggs.) And I liked how the griddle can be quickly adjusted so that it WILL tilt forward which *does* allow grease to run away when you want it to! (it has a grease channel and catch-tray along the front edge of the unit.)

My first impressions with this unit:

It's huge! 18.5" x 15" cooking area.

It heats evenly. My infrared (IR) non-contact thermometer gun showed very little temperature variation across the cooking surface once it was fully heated (I let the thermostat cycle several times -about 10 minutes -before I took my readings.) My pancakes verified this finding with each one being equally browned.

The thermostat is accurate. I set the unit to 350-degrees F., and it heated to 350-degrees F. as verified by my IR thermometer gun.

The raised lip around the sides and back of the unit is high enough to contain pancake batter and keep it from spilling over and is low enough to be completely unobtrusive.

After un-boxing the unit, I cleaned, plugged, and turned on the unit (set for 350-degrees F.) After a 10 minute warm up, I applied my pancake batter. As noted earlier, in the past I was only able to make two pancakes at a time using two separate skillets. The Presto griddle allowed me to cook 6 (yes, SIX!!) of my large pancakes at the same time. All six pancakes browned evenly with no hot or cold spots seen. Flipping the pancakes was a breeze and I used no oil on the non-stick surface.

I made two batches of pancakes, one batch after the other, and both turned out exactly the same... and that was "perfectly." I made a two batches of pancakes (12 pancakes total) in the same amount of time it took to make 4 in the past. For the first time my whole family ate pancakes together at the same time!!

So, in summary, the Presto Tilt'nDrain BigGriddle is well designed, easy to use, heats accurately and evenly, and has a very large cooking surface. Clean-up was quick and easy. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs a large griddle.

NOTE: Regarding a few other reviews here, I don't see how anyone can rate this product 2 or 3 stars, faulting the unit because it's too large to store. I mean, come on!! It's a big griddle by DESIGN!! If it's too large for you, then you should have bought a smaller griddle! ;-)

I bought this item for my Husband's birthday and we both adore it!I feared it might be one of those things you buy but don't actually use.I was so wrong! It cooks evenly and has a huge surface. The option to slant the surface means that fats and juices drain away so that pancakes can be cooked alongside bacon, for example, without soaking up the bacon grease. The low sides make it easy to get a spatula under whatever you may be cooking. The variable temperature settings make cooking delicate foods so easy, and clean up couldn't be simpler since it has a non-stick surface.I love this griddle!

This griddle is wonderfully big and easy to clean.Just wipe off and store away.I love how I can cook the entire familys' pancakes almost all at once.(9 at a time). I can throw on some sausage links, and some fried eggs as well with out dirting up another pan. This is the pan if you want a one stop breakfast. The burners cook evenly thoughout the surface and pancakes come out golden perfect!.I love it.The only drawback to this griddle is that it only goes up to 400 degrees. So if you want to really brown something its not going to happen unless you leave it on there for a long time.Other than that we absolutely think its the "dogs bark".So to speak, you know the "cats meow" but we are a dog family.Be healthy.

I've never seen a griddle that had a bigger coldspot in the middle.. it may heat up evenly, but the middle will go stone cold if you put anything even slightly cold on it.

chicken or beef will cause the temp to drop from 400 to 250 in matters of a second.

I wouldn't wish this griddle on anybody

I read Blue Crab Steve's review, and it was very helpful and informative. I purchased this griddle several months ago, and I wanted to use it for awhile before I submitted a review, although his comments are much better than mine.

OK, the good news is, this griddle is BIG!The bad news is, this griddle is BIG! That's not really a complaint. It's just a little hard trying to figure out how to store it. I have a small kitchen so I just store the griddle in the box it came in and tuck it in between my fridge and the wall. Also washing the griddle presents a challenge, as my sink is small, but I manage. The non-stick surface is really easy to clean, and I'm careful to use only silicone-coated or nylon utensils on it to preserve the surface.

Now for the good news. The large cooking surface allows one to cook multiple items at one time. I find that the edges get a little hotter than the middle, but I've learned to work with it. I've had electric griddles in the past, but this one is by far the best!

At first, I wondered if I would actually use the griddle often enough to justify purchasing it. But as time goes on, I find that I'm pulling it out often to cook so many things. It's just so convenient to be able to cook almost a whole meal on it at once.

The bottom line here is, I can't imagine who wouldn't love this griddle. I am very pleased with it so far, and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have an electric griddle with a large cooking surface. A wonderful addition to any kitchen!

Le Creuset Forged Hard-Anodized 11-Inch Nonstick Crepe Pan

Le Creuset Forged Hard-Anodized 11-Inch Nonstick Crepe PanMy wife gave me this pan for Christmas. I had a steel pan I used for years before we got married, but she burned something in it and threw it away, so no crepes for her. Until now.

The pan is aluminum, but it has a very heavy bottom that distributes the heat very evenly. The pan is also very flat and even. The nonstick coating works very well. With the butter in the crepe batter I don't have to oil it at all.

This pan is almost as good as the cast iron crepe pans as far as heating goes.

Were it excels over cast iron crepe pans is that in addition to having an excellent nonstick coating, it is just light enough and the handle is large enough that I can flip a crepe that is the same size as the pan with no utensils. As a bonus, the crepe does not release until it is done just enough. The downside to the nonstick coating is that you can't heat it up to the point you can with cast iron or you will burn up the coating. Having that heat is important to getting that just barely crisp outside with the soft inside. This pan can get very close to that, but you have to adjust the batter a bit. I generally prefer a thinner batter so I can tilt the pan to distribute it, but because of the lower heat requirement I make a slightly thicker batter that does not flow quickly enough so I have to resort to using the little wooden "T" stick to smear it around and thin it down (something I never did before).

The only con besides the heat limit for nonstick is it has rivets for the handle that come through and they are not coated so anything that gets on them tends to get them gunked up a bit.

Unless you are a long time connoisseur of crepes (were you can tell the difference between a half tablespoon of water and a half tablespoon of milk in your batter) you cannot go wrong with this pan.

It's a great pan for the novice or pro. (just don't burn the nonstick coating)

Now I'm kicking myself for not buying this pan 5 years ago.Even heat distribution, great weight and feel, worth the price.

Fissler Blue Point 4.5 Quart Pressure Skillet without lid

Fissler Blue Point 4.5 Quart Pressure Skillet without lidI bought this pressure skillet as a complement to a 10 quart Fissler pressure cooker, which I thought would be cost efficient since the pressure lid would fit both units. This item is described as a pressure skillet appropriate for browning, sauteing, etc...I was looking forward to being able to use less oil for healthier cooking, having read about the honeycomb Novagrill surface that is to be found in these skillets.

This pan seems to be a dead ringer for the pressure skillet (with Novagrill surface) that comes with a pressure lid, glass lid and mesh basket.Another website states that it does in fact have that surface. But that isn't the case. The skillet's surface is plain and flat. While it looks to be a terrific pan and very solidly built, it is important to know it doesn't benefit from that technology.

To get the Novagrill surface, one will need to order the four-piece set.Which I have done, I just wish it had been better described. As a skillet, I imagine its function would suffer a bit from not having the highly touted technology and don't quite understand why Fissler wouldn't make it available on all its pressure skillets.

I have written this review so others will not make the same assumption.Hope this helps, and happy pressure cooking!

2 Corning Visions Vision Ware / Visionware Amber 7 inch & 10 inch Frying Pan / Skillet Set

2 Corning Visions Vision Ware / Visionware Amber 7 inch & 10 inch Frying Pan / Skillet SetI prefer a non-toxic pan for cooking which is why I purchased this glass cookware.

For cooking vegetables and items that don't stick really badly, the Visionware has been great. I use the 10" pan mainly to sautee or steam vegetables and to fry bacon and I use the 7" to scramble or fry eggs.

I tend to batch cook, so I have several of each (I picked them up along the way from eBay).

They clean up nicely when you soak them and scrub them out with a plastic scrubber. I then place them in the dishwasher for a thorough cleaning.

I have used Visionware for about 22 years, including this frying pan.

These frying pans have never failed or exploded on me.

However, there have been some complaints about exploding Visionware (Google is your friend).

Some incidents can be attributed to thermal shock such as running cool water in a hot pot, or placing the hot item on a cool surface, or putting the cookware on a heat source with no water in it.

Also, if you have chipped, cracked, or scratched cookware, it is recommended that you discard it.

I would recommend carefully checking your cookware and discarding it if it is damaged.

You will want to avoid scratching it with metal utensils.

Corning no longer manufactures this product.

I have used visions vision ware for years.Pieces got broken and I thought that was the end of my set but yeah! found it on Amazon!

Simply Calphalon Stainless 10 Inch Omelette Pan

Simply Calphalon Stainless 10 Inch Omelette PanThis is from the "budget" line of Calphalon products, but don't be fooled. This is head and shoulders above other, similarly priced products.Heavy stainless steel, good for many years of faithful usage.I can't recommend any other brand over Calphalon. They make my breakfast every single day and clean up beautifully.

Silit Fresh 9-Inch Deep Frying Pan, Lemon Green

Silit Fresh 9-Inch Deep Frying Pan, Lemon GreenIn my never ending quest to improve my health, I discovered that the nickel in stainless steel was affecting me adversely. I began searching for "nickel-free" stainless steel, and in a round about way, my Google Searches led me to the Silit brand of "allergy-free cookware". Amazon.com had the best price that I could find, so I ordered the 9 inch and the 11 inch "Fry and Serve Pans".

They are on the heavy side (they weight the same as cast iron). This is a bit of a challenge with the 11 inch Fry and Serve as I am trying to get the contents out and into a storage container.

I was nervous that they would fail to live up to the "non-stick" claim lucky for me, that fear was unwarranted. They are wonderfully "non-stick" (it is like cooking on glass). Clean up is a breeze.

And Wow are they Beautiful! The colors in my kitchen are yellow, blue and green. I may have to buy a pot hanger, and find a reason to buy a blue and a yellow Silit cookware piece so that I can display them coordinating with my kitchen colors!

Nordic Ware Restaurant Cookware 8 Inch Skillet (Outside Diameter 8.25 Inch)

Nordic Ware Restaurant Cookware 8 Inch Skilletlove this pan for eggs and reheating home fries.

it will usually last a year or 2 with average care.

i highly recommend at least 2 of this kind of pan on hand.

Over the past year or so, my beloved Circulon skillets have been losing their nonstick properties. The coating wasn't flaking or chipping, nor did it appear to be damaged in any way, but they just weren't nonstick anymore. I found myself having to use nonstick cooking spray in order to keep things from sticking... and when I went to Circulon's web site to inquire about warranty service, I learned that using nonstick spray automatically voids the warranty. I wish I had known that. Lesson learned, I guess. :-\

When I was in a big-box store a few days ago, I took a quick detour to the cookware section. Amidst all the crappy, featherweight junk, I discovered something very surprising: NordicWare Commercial cookware. I was impressed by the weight (not too light, not too heavy), the balance/ergonomics, and the quality of the nonstick finish, which felt exactly like what I remember All Clad's finish feeling like. They're made in the USA (amazing!), and NordicWare's web site doesn't list any weird things that void their warranty, so I went back the next day and bought the 8" and 12" skillets.

So far, with the 8" skillet, I've made two of the BEST omelets I've ever made. The pan heats evenly, sits perfectly level on the burner, the silicone hand grip is cool and comfortable, and food (even cheese!) slides out of the pan effortlessly. I cooked pork chops in the 12" skillet last night with similarly excellent results.

These might just be the most pleasant pans I've ever used!

I'll be sure to update this review in the future after I've had the pans for a while, but so far I'm very impressed with them, especially considering the price.

Had two reasons one, did not want to buy a very expensive one as I plan to throw non-stick stuff away after using it a year or so. Second that it was made in US that is very important for me.

All-Clad LTD Nonstick Grande Griddle

All-Clad LTD Nonstick Grande GriddleI really like this griddle and would have given it 5 stars but for a detail.

Pros:

I use this griddle on an electric coil stove, on one large and one small burner. It heats very evenly even with the small burner, is heavy enough not to slide around while cooking, is light enough to move easily (vs. cast iron), and the non-stick surface make cleaning a breeze. It also has a grease gutter on the perimeter that can hold the griddle in place on the burner. The handles are vertical and grip extends slightly inward so it does not bang on the rear of the stove. It doesn't interfere with cooking as I thought it might.

Cons:

However, the grease gutter is about 1 inch all around that subtracts from the cooking surface, making the cooking area more like 11x18 instead of the listed 13x20.The transition from the cooking surface to the gutter is rounded so pancake batter poured near the edge can run into the gutter. It would have been better if the gutter was narrower and the edge was more square, but other non-cast iron models are designed similarly.

A good-quality product that I would buy again.

This griddle looks great, but I had to send mine back. This is because the bottom is raised about 3/8 inch due to the grease channel that runs around the perimeter, and it is thus not compatible with our ceramic cooktop. I contacted All-Clad, and they confirmed that it will not work on smooth cooktops. It would have been nice for the manufacturer to point this out in their product description, but they do not.

Winware Commercial Grade Aluminum Non-Stick Fry Pans

Winware 7 Inch Aluminum Non-Stick Fry Pan with Silicone Sleeve{Product: Winco Winware Aluminum Non-Stick Saute Pans}

The key ingredients for a viable restaurant-grade non-stick saute pan are as follows:

* Sturdy pan that can be banged around without warping/denting too easily.

* Even heat distribution.

* Silicone sleeve for handle, for easy transfer between stovetop and oven.

* Reasonably durable non-stick coating.

* Inexpensive to replace when worn out (which usually mandates aluminum rather than stainless)

By these 4 criteria, the few winware pans I've handled are servicable.

My chief nits with this line are as follows:

1) They're made in China, rather than the USA.Granted that this is a bit of a sweeping generalization, but from my experience American made products are often a bit higher in quality than their Chinese counterparts. For the same price range, I'd rather buy Eagleware (American), over Winco/Winware (Chinese).

2) In order to keep costs down, this line is all aluminum ... which renders the pans useless for induction cooking. Then again, that's true of a lot of pans in this price range, and most restaurants don't use induction, so it's a non-factor ... except for well to do home cooks.Ya get what ya pay for in non-stick pans.

3) On a specific pan-size note, I have a nit with the 8" pan.The chief purpose of an 8" NS all aluminum pan is making individual omlets, and (without going into too much detail about why) that's about it.Unfortunately, this particular pan is less than ideal for omlets, because the sides have too shallow a slope ... the 8" pan has the same slope as the 14" pan, so losing a full 2" of diameter only leaves the interior diameter of the bottom a somewhat meager 6", which is a bit tight for a classic omlet.

Bottom line this is a serviceable, if unspectacular, inexpensive line of NS Aluminum saute pans. And yes, they are commercial grade ... which isn't really saying much if you're familar with such.In true restaurant fashion, they're meant to be beaten on, and replaced regularly when worn out.

highly recommend.compare pricesit's a great price.it's durable and sturdy.I've been using it everyday since purchased.just need to wipe with damp paper towel to clean.
