Nordic Ware Pro Cast 10 Inch Saute Skillet

Nordic Ware Pro Cast 10 Inch Saute SkilletWhile Nordic Ware calls this a "texture-infused nonstick surface," this is not a nonstick pan like a Teflon coated one is. This should be classified as a "low stick" pan. For many things, you can cook without added oil and they will slide out just fine, but for tenacious stickers, like eggs, you do need a small amount of oil. Then you'll end up chasing your food around the inside of the pan with spatula, it's that stick free. As with all nonstick cookware, no metallic utensils or cleaning objects (like a stainless steel scrubby), please.

This pan heats up evenly and cooks well. There are no rivets on the inside to collect gunk. Cleaning up the inside of the breeze with just a sweep with a soapy sponge. It is oven safe up to 400°F.

The outside is a different matter. Cleaning the sides is easy, but the bottom of the pan is covered with little nubs (Nordic Ware calls this an "air cushioned bottom") that I guess are supposed to help distribute heat evenly. The pan does heat evenly so I guess they work, but cleaning the bottom is a real pain. If you get any kind of gunk baked on between the nubs it's darn near impossible to clean. If you're anal about this kind of stuff, this will drive you nuts! If you're one of those who likes to hang your spotlessly clean cookware on a rack for all to admire, this pan is not for you. Another effect of the nubs if you have a gas stove: when you shake the pan it doesn't slide over the grates, but "clunk" as the nubs catch the burner grate bars.

Overall though, this is a great pan. It's nicely balanced, heats evenly, and cleans up easily. Highly recommended, but just remember this is a "low stick" pan not a "nonstick" pan. Made in America is a bonus.

Purchased this pan one month ago to replace an equivocally priced pan (made in China) that was no longer non-stick.We've made cheese omelets, BBQ, and many other dishes, non sticking and wipes clean with just a paper towel.Completely satisfied and it's made in the USA.

I ordered this simply because I need a new skillet, wanted non stick, and wanted it made in the USA. This was everything I needed, and so much more. It is excellent quality, the heat distro is wonderful and I love the surface, so much better than regular teflon. I will be buying more of this style!

I've had this about a week now and sure that isn't a long enough time to truly review something, but just wanted to say that the construction, ease of cleaning, excellent non-stick ability and confidence I have in this pan is so far, pretty much perfect.

Emeril by All-Clad E6019764 Cast-Iron 2-Burner Reversible Grill / Griddle Cookware, Black

Emeril by All-Clad E6019764 Cast-Iron 2-Burner Reversible Grill / Griddle Cookware, BlackFor those of you who want a review from a lover of cast iron that actually owns this...

I love all my cast iron cookware, except this one. The enamel coating on it is horrible. I'm not sure you should even season something that has been enameled, and I would be willing to try (probably ruining the griddle completely), except that this griddle really does not hold heat evenly. I am going to give this one back to my mother in law and buy a lodge logic.

sorry Emeril, you rock, just don't like this piece.

Well, I bought it at Macy's whilst browsing.I wasn't really looking for it, but when I hefted the box, I thought that this was a SERIOUS piece of cooking equipment.Emerilware has some real crap in its line, but this seemed promising.

Well, 4 months later, I really really like it.But it isn't a traditional "put stuff on it and it works" type of device.Nope, some learning about how to use it and more about how to care for it are necessary to produce maximum benefits.

The first has been mentioned, it must be sprayed with PAM before heating. Each and Every time.Second, it takes a long long time to heat up, think at least 15 minutes (like pre-heating an oven, start this before cooking).Third, it might not fit your burners the way you like it to (especially with gas burners) but with a little time and practice one can find harmony between surface flatness, even heat distribution, and stability.

I am still learning on the care/cleaning requirements, as the directions provided are laughably inadequate. That is why I can't classify it as a 5-star product.

But it unquestionably opens new cooking frontiers for quick dinners or large breakfasts.Maybe there's a better one, and I have seen the catastrophic failures. But it sure makes cooking and more importantly eating more fun.

I have used this product as a grill and griddle over the past month. The trick here is to heat up the grill or griddle, then, brush oil or butter on it.Pancake and eggs slide around.Steak develops nice grill marks.

I use stainless steel utensils with this product.

Clean up was easy when I allowed it to heat up then brush oil or butter.

I do not own this pan, but I am a lover of cast iron cookware in general, and thus feel compelled to respond to this earlier negative review.

First of all ALL cast iron pans, whether "pre-seasoned" or raw, need to be seasoned after you buy them.Several times for best results.('seasoning' usually means baking the pan with oil in it for a good period of time to seal off the pores in the metal surface). You will not get non-stick results out of the box, no matter what you buy.I own a "pre-seasoned" 8-quart dutch oven from the Emeril series, and the pan needed to be seasoned after I got it (as did my "pre-seasoned" 12-inch Lodge skillet).I also have a smaller Lodge skillet that I bought "raw" and it's worth noting that it took significantly longer to get it to non-stick level of seasoning. So pre-seasoning helps, but does not eliminate the need for the honorable task of seasoning your pan.Regardless of issues of seasoning, my Emeril dutch oven has performed beautifully, it is very solid, has classic lines and is well-made at an accessible price, which I very much appreciate.I can't imagine the grill pan is much different.Cast iron is pretty simple, and the Emeril series seems to do it right.

2) Cast iron is unique and awesome in part because it holds heat so well, but it does need to be preheated for several minutes for full effect to allow the heat to spread out and transfer to the entire pan.Obviously a pan that covers two burners is going to have hot spots to some degree, but allowing a good 5-8 minutes for the pan to preheat will significantly reduce this.I don't know if the previous reviewer allowed enough time for preheating, which may have contributed to his/her complaints about uneven cooking.Cast iron gives the most even cooking of any cooking surface out there, for the exact same reasons that people most often complain about it it's really heavy and it gets really hot and stays that way.Certainly cast iron cooks more evenly than the electric skillet the previous reviewer mentioned buying instead.I could be completely wrong, this pan may have horrible hot spots, and as I said, I don't own this pan, but this sounds to me like it could be a user problem.

3)You can't use a cast iron pan once and throw it in the trash! It may take a month or more to get the pan to a stage where it will create the beautifully browned, crisped non-stick results that cast iron lovers rave about.Patience (and turning a deaf ear to naysayers) is well-rewarded.In my experience it doesn't make a ton of difference which manufacturer you go with, in terms of the performance of the surface or metal itself.Cast iron pretty much performs like cast iron.Variations among brands have more to do with what shape or size you like, which design feels better in your hand. The thing that makes the biggest difference in the results you'll get from cast iron is in how you treat the pan.I cook sometimes in my job as a personal assistant, and my boss has a full set of very expensive Le Creuset enameled (and some non-enameled) cast iron that barely gets used, and it's not as enjoyable to cook with as a result.I would choose my five dollar raw cast iron skillet any day of the week. The results I get from the pan are stellar because it is used often and well-loved, and therefore has a fabulous well-seasoned surface.

So I will say, if you buy this pan and it's your first piece of cast iron, give it a month or two before you decide whether or not you like it.

Which brings me to the other reason I love cast iron so much because it requires a bit of effort and patience in the beginning, I've found I really have a relationship with my cast iron pans.I LOVE my cast iron pans! (maybe this makes me crazy, but if so, it's a very enjoyable form of insanity :) ) It's a simple, humble material that will last a lifetime remember that old phrase "wears like iron?" so I highly recommend making the leap into the wonderful world of cast iron, whether with this pan or another one.Just remember that it takes a bit of patience and a bit of doing, but you will be rewarded with a friend that is (almost) as reliable as death and taxes.

this pan came"pre seasoned" the pre seasoning was so toxic smellingI would not use this pan until i had actually gotten got my drill with a sandpaper bit andground the covering off the entire pan and lid. When i first placed pan on stove it smelled likegasoline. Lodge preseasons its pans with olive oil apparently Heuck preseasons its pans with a petroleum based product or paint. As Iuse cast ironbecause I don't want the toxcicity ofteflon I foundthis appalling, i would rather use the teflon, at least that doesn't smell! The actualpan is nowhere near as smooth asthe Lodge pan ( for approximately the same price). The lidis not one piece but has thelittleknob screwed on the top. I fear the screw will melt if subjected to thehigh tempsthe rest of the panshould handle. The pan itself does not appear to be even some areas areclearly thinner than others. When I read the instructions for use it said to wash the pan in hot soapy water before use! Anyonewho uses cast iron knows that you never wash a cast iron pan with soap, unless you want to remove the finish.( washing it did not remove the finish, unfortunately). I would strongly advise against this product, Ifeel that the coating on the pan is not healthy,at the very least itwill ruin the flavor of any food cooked in it and willsend a retched smell througout your homewhen you firstuse it.buy lodge or or old mountainor something else..

Farberware Porcelain Enamel Nonstick Straight 12-Piece Cookware Set, BlackI have always liked Farberware. They are great pots & pan and I have used this brand exclusively for 23 years as they hold up well.

However, with the 'Porcelain Set' I have a problem with the handle on the lids.

If one is cooking something all day (as I just did) one cannot lift the lid off without it being almost too hot to touch.

I am referring to the handle to the lid only.Too bad.I'll have to send this set back.

Nordic Ware Commercial Induction Fry Pan with Premium Non-Stick Coating, 8-Inch

Nordic Ware Commercial Induction Fry Pan with Premium Non-Stick Coating, 8-InchI'm not too happy with this pan. It's not made very well. The bottom is not very flat and spins like a top on my glass top stove.

Also the non-stick isn't as good as a similar pan I purchase at the local discount store.

Their description of a Premium Non-Stick pan is not in my opinion even close to correct.

This skillet is exactly as described.I used it several times and it worked perfectly on my Nuwave Induction Cooktop.I would buy again and recommend to all.

Cuisinart 77-14 Chef's Classic Stainless 14-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart 77-14 Chef's Classic Stainless 14-Piece Cookware SetI want to add a dose of realism to the many positive reviews here. We've had this cookware set for about 5 months. It comes packaged very nicely, seems well made and looks very good. And there's the rub. Unlike a lot of stainless cookware, these are very shiny. If you like that, you'll be satisfied, but you should bear in mind that the finish is fragile. It's easy to scratch and easy to discolor. We use the steamer every day and on one occasion I accidentally boiled it dry. I took the pot off the heat very quickly, but the result was a faint gold tint on the outside that cannot be removed. I don't really mind the color change, but it worries me.

I've used the frying pan a couple of times to make eggs and here again the shine isn't necessarily a good thing. Butter actually beads up on the surface as it melts and you have to use an awful lot if you want it to cover the bottom of the pan.

The instructions warn you many times not to use steel wool for cleaning. So far, we've been okay with a plastic scrubber pad, and, especially after a soaking, things clean up easily. But the fact that I've been warned not to use the most obvious cleaning method is worrisome.

Pot handles do indeed stay cool. The lids, however, can get very hot. Also, the edges of the lids face up and out. This is common now, but my older pans had lids that that were turned into the pan. The outward-facing design guarantees that condensation will form on the underside of the lids, and will drip pretty badly when you first remove them from a boiling pot. One good feature of the lid handles is that you can hang them on a pot rack.

Finally, the steamer has several extra ridges around the bottom and vegetables inevitably stick to those areas. Again, a soaking is necessary to get them clean.

All in all, a useful, sturdy set, well made, and a good value -but with the caveat that the shine might not be what you want.

I purchased this set a year ago. I already had the 12 inch skillet, the 5 qt. saute pan and a 2 qt. saucepan, which I LOVE and use on a regular basis. I expected this set to be the same quality as these other Chef's Classic pans that I had purchased individually, but the pans in this set just don't measure up.

The first thing I noticed is that these pans are lighter weight. The 3 qt. saucepan from this set is much lighter than the 2 qt. saucepan I already had. This would be okay, except that food tends to stick more easily to the 3 qt. I think the botton of the pans in this set must be thinner than my other Chef's Classic. Also, these pan do spot moreI use Barkeepers Friend for all my Cuisinart, but I find the pans in this set discolor every time I use them, which is annoying.

My biggest beef is with the pasta insert. I chose this particular set because it included the pasta insert, but the pan is not just useless it is a menace. The holes are way to small, and the water drains out very slowly. The first time I used it, boiling water flooded over the top and splashed over the stove and onto the floor when I lifted the insert out of the pot. I've tried using less water, lifting the pasta insert slowly, etc. and it still splashes whenever I use it.Today I purchased a Faberware 8 qt. pasta insertit has much larger holes and when I tried it tonight I couldn't make it splash even when I practically jerked it out of the pot.

Compared to other cookware the quality of this set is decent, but my other Chef's Classic is so much better quality that this set mostly sits in the cabinet. If you want to buy a set, go with the 10 or 12 piece set. You'll save some money and you can use it to buy a pasta pot you can actually use.

Buy Cuisinart 77-14 Chef's Classic Stainless 14-Piece Cookware Set Now

I am no chef but I do love to cook, and I purchased this set for myself after moving cross-country and giving away an old set of Farberware stainless. I have been using these for the last month and a half and I couldn't be more pleased. I absolutely love them!

They heat evenly and the handles do, indeed, stay cool. The pots clean up beautifully. There has been some minor discoloration on the frying pans but that's to be expected, I think, given their purpose. But the saucepans and stockpot come out of the dishwasher looking as pristine as when I took them out of the box! They are SO pretty... Lastly, these pots and pans are not too heavy, which was sa concern for me. I'd tried out other pots and pans (like the Emerilware) at department stores and found them extremely heavy to lift; the Cuisinart Chef's Classic are the perfect weight for me.

You do have to be careful about keeping the heat lower, though, or things do burn. The other thing I've found is that, while the handles on the pots and pans stay cool, the handles on the lids do not...just be careful when lifting the lids!

Although I think it'd be nice if the 14-piece set included a 2-quart saucepan too, but otherwise it comes with everything you need to cook a big or small meal. There are smaller sets, though, for those who aren't ready to take the plunge.

I heartily recommend this set.

Love the cookware, the only problem i had was not reading the fine print which caused me to ruin the inside bottom (discoloration)of my stock pot, thank goodness it is the only pot i store in my cabinet,my others are displayed on my pot rack.I was cooking fresh collards from a friend and i always add a dash of baking soda to them in case they are bitter! After cooking them i washed the pot and the bottom was purple, pink and gray! I used the barkeepers and that did not work i was out done.I took the manual out and read it and found that it stated not to use lemon dishwasing detergent but nothing about baking soda i don't remember where i read it if it was on the box or the cuisinart web site but it says never to use baking soda in these pots.I have never owned stainless steel cookware before and figure that perhaps this review will help new users!Other than my own stupidity I give these pots 5 stars.

I'm not a professional chef but I cook extravagant meals nearly every night.I've been cooking for about 12 years and was a bit hesitant at first to buy a set of pans that weren't non-stick.However, I did want to get away from teflon pans.As soon as I did I noticed a distinct difference in taste/quality.As EVERYONE says you don't need a lot of heat.I use an older natural gas stove and it was difficult for me to get it down low enough.Cuisinart suggests a flame/heat diffuser for those situations. After cooking for a while I did notice that using a pan on HIGH heat does cause a slight bit of discoloration on the bottom.I do however believe it will come out quite easily. As long as I have a small amount of oil in the pan I have had absolutely no issues with food sticking or burning and it's easier to use than any of my non-stick stuff and requires less heat/gas.Goes great with a nice set of Chicago Cutlery knives (awesome for the price)

Other sets considered: Analon, Calphalon(strongly considered), Emerilware, All-Clad, Circulon

This little pan is great at cooking eggs, a burger, or warming up leftovers. It will heat up to 210 degrees Fahrenheit with the lid on and slightly below that uncovered. There is no temperature regulator, which is unfortunate, but as of yet has not been a problem.

The cooking area of the pan is 6 1/2" in diameter and is just about 4 1/2" in total height. The power cord is approx 5' long...Amazon sells a Roadpro 12V 12' extension if a longer cord is needed.

Art and Cuisine Stone Frypan

Art and Cuisine Stone FrypanWAIT A MINUTE. I haven't and this pan for long and have taken very good care of it.It's already started to chip and is missing very small amounts of ceramic.BOOOOO!I take back my review below from when I first bought it.Still much less "non-stick" than the Zwilling, but falling apart.Shenanigans!

ORIGINAL: My expensive first ceramic purchase of a Zwilling JA Henckels Twin Spirit Thermolon Fry Pan, totally SUCKS and it was EXPENSIVE! This taught me to test new pans right away. This pan is wonderful, scrammed eggs don't stick without any added butter or oil (over easy need a tiny touch of oil just to ensure your yolks don't break). It wipes clean, has a very heavy bottom that distributes heat evenly and is exactly as described by the manufacturer. If the ceramic holds up this will be my new favorite brand for ceramic cookware. However, I've read that over time some ceramic coatings doesn't hold up, we'll see, and I'll post an update if it doesn't.So far it's GREAT!A True Non-Stick Ceramic Pan At An Affordable Price!Woo Hoo!DON'T BUY INTO THE ZWILLING NAME, IT'S NOT TRUE!THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE HASN'T EVEN RESPONDED TO ME AND AMAZON ABOUT THE LEMON I BOUGHT!

Lodge Pro-Logic P10D3 Cast Iron Dutch Oven, Black, 4-Quart

Lodge Pro-Logic P10D3 Cast Iron Dutch Oven, Black, 4-QuartA small correction maybe, but it is still an important correction. This is not a Lodge "Logic" Dutch Oven as the title suggests, rather it is a Lodge "Pro-Logic" Dutch Oven. This is important because the Pro-Logic line is the newer ergonomic and stylish cookware.I bought this as part of the 4-for-3 program, so I only paid ~$28 for it.My Pro-Logic Dutch Oven is easy to care for and it cooks well for a wide variety of foods.I also own the original Logic design. While my Logic Dutch Oven is great, this Pro-Logic one is slightly better.Specifically, I like the two changes in the Pro-Logic cookware.First, the edge of the Pro-Logic Dutch oven rises up from the bottom at a smoother/rounder angle, so it is easier to stir with a spoon.Second, the handles are made larger, so they are much easier to hold onto. This is especially important when using potholders or oven mitts. The cover is also different. In the Logic version, the lid has drip spikes. In this Pro-Lodge version, the lid has a circular ridge. Both designs are to help evaporated liquid to condense and to effectively drip back to the pot.I have upload some pictures to show these features.

One thing which I do not like about Lodge Dutch Ovens is that they are preseasoned but done so poorly.I wish they either do a good job or simply oil the cookware and let the buyers season the cookware themselves, much like how typical carbon steel woks are sold.In my case, the original seasoned surface had an bubbled area. This indicates the surface underneath has rusted and indeed it was when I inspected it.I had to baked off the original seasoning surface, scrubbed it with a stainless steel brush, oiled it, wiped it clean, scrubbed it with salt and oil, cleaned it again with oil, and then finally applied bacon fat to season it on the stove top and then moved to the oven. The factory seasoned surface is sometime done incorrectly and removing the original surface takes some works. That being said and all, I am giving this Dutch Oven a 5-star rating. It is a solid cookware with good designs, inexpensive and high performance. The seasoning part did not bother me too much because I know how to do it, but I wish Lodge would offer a non-seasoned line of cookware

***Why bare cast iron Dutch oven over Enameled cast iron Dutch Oven***

I used to use enameled cast iron Dutch Ovens, but now I am a bare/regular cast iron Dutch Oven person.Enameled cast iron Dutch Ovens have their advantages, but I believe one of the advantages is overstated, that is: enameled cast iron Dutch Overns are easier to clean.Yes, if I am limited to a soft sponge to clean, then it is easier to clean an enameled cast iron Dutch Oven. However, I can clean a bare cast iron Dutch Oven more aggressively than an enameled one.I can scrub the bare cast iron Dutch Oven with a metal brush or scrap it with stainless steel spatula without permanently damaging it.I do not have that option for an enamleded cast iron Dutch Oven.I have to be extremely careful with the enameled surface. In practice, I find it much easier and faster to clean a bare cast iron Dutch Oven.

*Edit on 08SEP10*I have just noticed that Amazon has changed the main photo and the description for this item. Now it looks like a campfire dutch oven, which is not what I bought.

What is not to like? I love to crank my heat up and get things going, splash the wine, sear the meat, try it with teflon and you end up with chemical soup.

This is good old fashioned safe cooking, from the stove top to the oven, no melted handles, easy clean up, will last longer than a life time. I feel more comfortable using the little handles to take the pan out of the oven, have not tried the swinging handle version.

This is a great product at a great price, I could not find it cheaper anywhere else but Amazon.

(THREE AND A HALF STARS)First of all let me say I love cast iron!I have two skillets that were handed down from my husband's Mother and they have been seasoned for probably 30 years so maybe that has spoiled me.Slick as a whistle!!

Of course I did not expect a new preseasoned potto match those lovely heirloom pans that have cooked thousands of country meals. That being said, in my opinion, the"preseasoning" on this new Dutch oven is a little too rough (as in bumpy sprayed on)for my liking, and the lid was BADLY mottled on the underneath side. The lid was also not quite black and did not match the pot.For the price I expected a little better.I am now reseasoning it in my oven and I'm sure it will be great after some of the "roughness" goes away.I have used it three times so far and I have had no problem with sticking but I will definately work towards smoothing it out. Can't complain one bit about how great it cooks,BUTit seems to me that a smoother surface will result in better nonstick abilities. Therefore I am reseasoning the pot.Something to note as well is thatafter purchasing this 4 quart I noticed that the 5 quart here on Amazon is A LOT less expensive.I would have gone with that one had I done my homework properly.I can see how this 4 quart will be good for a lot of things, but is it worth the extra $$ and couldn't a gal (or guy)do the same thing in a 5 quart if you don't mind the extra weight?

Bottom line:I would buy the regular old unseasoned pot and season it myself if I could.Cook's Illustrated said that Lodge no longer makes the non preseasoned pans because more people like the pre-seasoned.NOT ME!Call me "old fashioned".I did read a review on another Lodge panhere on Amazon where the lady said to run it through the oven on the selfcleaning cycle to remove the "factory" finish and start over.

We originally bought this because we wanted a "pan" that is deeper for stir-frying. Instead of the chicken frier that is 3 inch deep, we picked this 4-inch deep model. And just like every other cast iron owner, we ended up using it for almost everything. Indeed, within a shortly one month period, it has already become our favorite cooking device, replacing a top-of-the-line calphanon non-stick and an claded stainless steel for all kinds of food: meat, eggs, tofu, vegetables, you name it. I didn't know cast iron can be soooo good.

When I finally moved to a new apartment and needed to stock my kitchen I immediately searched for these pots and pans. I love cooking with stainless steel and these are a great buy if you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money. The handles are sturdy, the set isn't too heavy, and they clean very easily. Also, I love that they come with the set of stainless steel utensils(which are hard to find and usually very expensive if you try to buy them separately). Very happy with this purchase.

I replaced all the old worn out pots and pans in my kitchen with this set. I think it is well worth the asking price. The only thing I think could be improved upon is the handles could be a no heat transfer handle. I need to use the hot pad to handle them. They wash nice and cook well. And they look nice all pretty in my kitchen. :o)

I love this set of pots and pans! They are the perfect weight and size and are very well made. The set is made from 18/10 stainless steel with sandwiched aluminum bottoms for fast, even heating. The heavy-gauge knobs and handles are permanently welded for durability. The set came exactly as described. A lot of other sets come with an 8 quart dutch oven. That's too large for me. The 5.5 quart dutch oven is the perfect size for cooking and storing in the cabinet. The food does not stick to the inside of this cookware and the pots and pans clean easily. This set has the perfect size pans (1 qt, 2 qt and 3 qt) and stacks beautifully in my kitchen cabinet. I also love the see through lids so you can monitor the heat level while cooking. The handles and knobs do not overheat when cooking. The other brands come with non-stick frying pans. I was looking for a cookware set without non-stick pots or frying pans. I researched all the other brands farberware, calphalon, cuisinart, etc and this is the best cookware set by far. This would be especially good for some-one just starting out as it has everything you need. I'm very happy with this set!
