Deni 8340 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet, 12 in x 14.5 inch

Deni 8340 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet, 12 in x 14.5 inchThis Deni electric skillet is large enough to fry a whole chicken, and is non stick. We like using it to save energy and keep the kitchen cool during the Summer. It also means no stove or cook top to clean, which is a real plus! Portable, too, to take that hot dish to the pot luck, and keep it hot! But compare to it the new RECTANGLE electric skillet: West Bend 72215 12-by-15-Inch Extra-Deep Skillet which is our favorite. The West Bend has even higher sides (3 inches) and is easier to use because it is not ROUND, but long it measures 15 inches in length. We even bake an excellent lasagne in the West Bend because the lasagne noodles fit exactly! So we actually bought BOTH of these, but if forced to choose, the West Bend is a much better price and seems to be more useful.

I received this electric skillet as a gift. I am very pleased with it.I like the size (12 in x 14 in) and the shape of the skillet

(not round).Even when I prepare a "one person" meal, I do not find the skillet too large.I would not want a smaller skillet.I also like the vented see through glass lid better than a metal lid. I have not had trouble with "hotspots" due to the skillet's heating element.I rate this product as a five-star item.SC

I bought this skillet by mistake. I was going to send it back, but our daughter said she would like to have it. We gave it to her and she really likes it. Our grandson wanted one, so we ordered one for him too. We wanted one that was stainless steel inside and out.

I checked out a lot of electric skillet before decieding on this one and I'm so happy I chose it.The description is exactly what this skillet delivers. The temperature dial lets you choose any setting in between the printed degrees. It heats quickly and there are no hot/cool spots. There is no light to tell you if the unit is on or off, but there is a soft hum while it is heating. When the set temperature is reached, the hum stops. The temperature guage is a plug it easy to install and remove.Cleaning is a breeze: wipe with a paper towel or clean with soapy water and a cloth.Nice size: stores easily.

Sizzle-Q SQ180 Universal Griddle for BBQ Grills, Stainless

Sizzle-Q SQ180 Universal Griddle for BBQ Grills, StainlessThis is not stainless steel. It can't be. At first I thought it worked great, even though it discolored and couldn't be cleaned enough to restore the original look, but after a few uses, It started to get rusty, even without obvious moisture EVER left on the surface. Not blackened or stained, but flat out rusted. Now, without ever using it again, and keeping it stored in fully enclosed, completely protected cabinet in its accompanying bag (put away dry), we opened it this season to find it COVERED with rust and totally unusable. Lots of money for a 4-5 use item.

I bought this for my gas grill because my wife and I cook hibachi style very often. There are many reasons to like this griddle:

easy to clean

very sturdy

doesn't slide on the grill

drip tray is useful for diverting sauces and juices

verticle sides keep food and sauces from falling into the grill

Even though it would be nice if there were handles that would make it easier to transport, I would highly recommend this product.

This griddle came exactly as advertised. Heats up super fast on grill. I have even set it on top of my turkey fryer with success.I have cooked everything from tater tots to fish, steak, burgers, eggs, veggies.I have not had any problems with sticking. I usually toss on some oil or butter. Puts a great sear crust on burgers and steaks. While griddle is hot hit it with some water and scrape off food into drip trough in front. I usually put some wet paper towel in trough as well to help absorb grease. You do need to hit it with a grill stone every now and then if you dont like the darkening of surface ( I dont mind it, a seasoned griddle requires less oil and cooks better IMO ).I DEF reconmmend this for those who are sick and tired of flare ups!

this thing is Awesome. If you like grilled foods ie. diner type burgers ,breakfast,

I use it outside only due to the splatter but it heats fast and cooks fast too.

One thing, keep it clean and it will give you many years...

I love this griddle. When I read all the reviews on how hard it was to clean I almost did not buy it but did so I could try it myself and I am glad I did. After my husband cooked on the griddle and it was stuck with burnt sauce I took out my Mr Clean white bar and every thing came off right away. I clean everything with the Mr Clean white bars that you buy anywhere so I figured I would try it on the griddle and it works perfect. NO MESS...this griddle cooks food better than anything we have cooked on...love it...

Boomerang Wok by Royal VKB VP1SF .832 13-Inch Frying Wok

Boomerang Wok by Royal VKB VP1SF .832 13-Inch Frying WokThe reason for the rating is that the item I received is not the award winning Boomerang Wok as pictured. What I received is an 8 inch ceramic bowl. The label on the carton says "Boomerang Wok 13" fry pan"clearly mislabeled. This is not intended as a product review but a warning to potential buyers who may receive the item from the same mislabeled batch.I just returned the item. This is probably the fault of the person responsible for stocking the item but who needs this extra hassleduring the busy holiday period.T. Teramaye

The Boomerang Wok has been wonderful so far. Great for stir frying but also great for flipping fried eggs, cooking tortillas, etc. The pan is very high quality and also very sturdy. It is a bit heavy for its size but that is of course due the extra metal required for the shape of the pot. It comes with a black fabric bag to cover the pan which I assume is to protect it from scratches etc from other pots and pans in the cupboard. Overall, this pan is a good investment in my opinion.

Magnalite Classic 18-Inch Oval Covered Roaster

Magnalite Classic 18-Inch Oval Covered RoasterI have wanted a Magnalite Roaster for a very long time. When I searched the internet for the roaster, I located one at Amazon and at a reasonable price. When I received the roaster I was very dissatisfied with the product. The Oval Cover is out of round and their is no way that it will form a seal with the roaster.Their are gaps between the cover and roaster and the cover wobbles when it sits on top of the roaster.I know other people that have had this product for many years, and are very happy with it.I guess that either Magnalite is no longer manfucatured to the same standards as in the past or they do not perform a quality check after production and before shipping.

My first set of cookware was Magnalite and both my Mom and Grandmother owned Magnalite. This aint your usual Magnalite. It arrived warped and scratched up and was shipped in it's own box with no packing materials. It also appeared to be a return because the box had been opened and retaped shut. Not to be anti China but that's where this was maufactured. I will try to buy this made somewhere else because it looks to be a cheap immitation of the real thing.

I have used this kind of roaster for the holidays over the years and love them. It keeps the Turkey so moist and cooks very even.

The problem I have with this new one is it is made in China not the USA like my other one. The new one is not as heavy and the quality of workmanship not up to par. I never found it on the internet as a recalled item so I kept it but still am not really confortable with products made in CHINA because of the lead content in allot of their products.

I returned the product. The product was nothing close to the set of magnalite that I was trying to add to. The material was lighter in weight, the lid did not fit securely and the inside appeared to be unfinished. The texture was very rough. My original set, which is 15 years old still works perfectly and looks great.

Want Magnalite Classic 18-Inch Oval Covered Roaster Discount?

I am originally from South Louisiana and was raised with magnalite cookware, my grandmothers, my aunts, my Mother everyone used only magnalite.I was lucky to inherit a couple of pieces but was determined to build up my own magnalite collection. Over the years I have been doing just that. There is no better cookware on the market. I have strayed and tried others but they end up being given away or thrown away and my magnalite is always there waiting to cook a superb meal. This roaster was one that took me a while to get, it is expensive but I knew it would be worth it and man oh man this thing is wonderful.

I cook a giant beef brisket in this roaster that is just so tender and juicy with a gravy that is fabulous, a turkey turns out beautiful and moist, in the summer I buy bushels of fresh okra, chop it and cook it down in this roaster with onions and tomato, bag it in ziplock bags and put it in the freezer, I have my okra for my gumbos all ready to go. And speaking of gumbo if you need to make a giant batch of gumbo this roaster will cover that task too! I use in on the stove and in the oven.

I never had a problem cleaning any of my magnalite pots, I do not put them in the dishwasher, I put a little dishwashing soap in them and some warm water let it soak a bit then use either a brillo pad or a teflon scrubber pad on them, it cleans amazingly easily. They will discolor inside over time but it has no effect on the cooking.

So many Cajun cooks lost their collections in Katrina and Rita, very sad because these were magnalite sets that had been handed down for generations! We are starting over and you can bet we will start over again with our magnalite!

You can not get anything better.

Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 12-1/2-Inch Fry Pan

Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 12-1/2-Inch Fry PanI have been looking for a good non-stick skillet. I've used non-stick skillets from All-Clad and Calphalon but they all had one problem: peeling of the non-stick layer. I saw an unused All-Clad skillet from their new line at Williams-Sonoma and it had scratches on the non-stick surface.

I found what I was looking for! This fry pan is excellent! It is made in Switzerland. It is big. The outside diameter is 13" and the bottom is almost 9 3/4". It requires a large burner. I have a Miele electric cooktop which has a burner large enough for this skillet. I have tried it over a smaller burner and it worked as well. The food browned evenly over the surface of the skillet. The cleaning is easy. I only have a small issue with the lid. The lid assembly was easy. However, during washing water gets into the steam vent and then it comes out after the lid is dried. It takes few drying sweeps to avoid water streaks on the lid.

Overall, I am very pleased with this skillet. I am looking forward to getting more skillets from Swiss Diamond.

Update. May 2009. Zero stars.

Like its predecessors from All-Clad and Calphalon, this skillet stopped being non-stick after about a year. It wasn't abused in any way: no metal utensils and no prolonged cooking of foods other than pancakes and fish. Yet, the center of the skillet began to darken first, than the rest of the skillet has darkened. I used baking soda (suggested by All-Clad website). It did remove some brown residue but the skillet is completely not non-stick, everything sticks to it even more.

I am happy with a non-stick skillet from Circulon infinite line. I bought an 11" skillet at Macy's for $20 as a product promotion item. The best non-stick that I have is from LeCreuset. Unfortunately, the largest one LeCreuset made was 9" in diameter.

I found one of these locally at just below Amazon price, and bought it to try out.Now that I have used it for several months, I highly recommend it even at full list price, and am saving up to purchase a complete set to replace my other worn out pots and pans.

First things first:

This is one of the best nonstick surfaces I have ever used.Messes clean up better than from Teflon coated pans, even after sitting and getting cold and hard.I have never had to use more effort than simply wiping off with a kitchen sponge and some warm soapy water.

Unlike other surfaces, this one holds food in place until you are ready to move it.Things don't slide around, so they can properly sear and brown. This is also handy for things like fried eggs.I fried an egg just today and it came out perfect. With a little bacon grease for flavor, the surface gave the egg white just enough tension that the cooking egg held together into a nice 4 inch circle instead of spreading thin all over the place.I have suffered a lot of frustration with other cooking surfaces over this.

Heat transfer is incredible. When you put food on this pan after preheating, it sears up and browns immediately.I'd say it equals cast iron in this respect, with the added bonus of being nonstick.

Heat distribution and retention is also very good. Not quite as good as cast iron here, but then nothing else ever will be -and even though the pan is heavy, it is still considerably lighter than my 12 inch cast iron.

About the only caution I would have is that, despite the manufacturer's hype, the surface is NOT 100% resistant to whatever you throw at it.I did a controlled test on a part of the skillet that will never see food, and you CAN put a nice scratch in the diamond-coat with a strong stainless steel tool.So be sure to stick to wood and synthetics, not steel. However, to be fair, it IS tougher than any Teflon surface I have tried, and about equal to some of the fancier anodized finishes.

The handle is good and solid, but you may want to grab it and test it yourself in the store before you buy it all depends on each individual's hands. The helper handle could be improved, however.Because the helper is integrated with the cooking surface, it heats up.You need to use mitts to use the helper.Seriously.That surface will scar you for life if you grab it while hot.Always treat it like it is hot cast iron, because it will burn you the same way.

Some people will complain the handle isn't riveted into place. Those people need to embrace the 21st century. The handle is very secure without rivets.Unless you plan on using this pan as some sort of bludgeoning weapon on a regular basis, the lack of rivets poses no problem. Moreover, the rivetless design ensures that the entire interior surface of the skillet is smooth and uniformly nonstick.I personally have always found the rivets in other "nonstick" pans to be the surface area where food always manages to get stuck. No rivets for me, please.

The lid is decent but it is just a lid.Nothing too fancy. It is a good grade of glass with a vent-lid handle. When you close the vent, it holds steam very well. With the vent open, you get a pretty decent evaporation rate, so you can quickly reduce liquids by retaining heat by letting moisture escape.

Like I said, I want to buy a complete set.Highly recommended.

I recieved the 12 1/2", it comes with a lid!! I used it to make panfry dumplings. I have tried Ultrex, non stick and Revere stainless, neither with good results. Both didn't come close to Swiss Diamond. Little pricey, but I will never have to buy another non stick pan again, this one has a limited lifetime warranty. Limited to the fact I don't cook commercially or abuse the pan. Even heating, even on burner that is not as large as pan, great browning and nothing sticks. Highly recommend!!

I have three of the fry pans now.Started out with the small 8" fry pan, and was so pleased with it I purchased a good 6 months or so following. My third was the 12" fryer. My fourth was the actual replacement of my 8" pan.The surface on these pans seem to last just around a year.I had no problem with getting my first one replaced with a new one, so the customer service was wonderful.I actually thought we may have been at fault for the first pans surface wearing out, but after babying around this 12" pan for a year it has done the same thing.I will attempt to get this newer pan replaced again, and will not purchase any more of these overpriced pans.I will buy a cheaper nonstick pan, and continue to use my stainless steel cookware.

Sometimes customer reviews can steer you wrong.I relied on a review below praising this pan's handle and have found it to be far less solid than implied. This is a heavy pan and, when filled with food, a lot of torque is exerted on the handle.I have had to retighten mine several times in the first year of service and find that it never feels 100% secure. It's less of a problem with the smaller fry pans from Swiss Diamond, but all in all I don't think I would choose a non-riveted pan again and especially not at the premium price of this one!

Emeril by All-Clad E9640764 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 12-Inch Skillet Cookware, Black

Emeril by All-Clad E9640764 Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron 12-Inch Skillet Cookware, BlackI purchased this skillet after reading every review here, believing that the negative reviews were probably due to a lack of understanding how to work with cast iron.

At first, I did like the skillet. I took it through my own seasoning process (even though it was pre-seasoned) and was happy with both the appearance and (more importantly) the cooking qualities the first couple of times I used it.

I have been using it 1-2 times daily for the two weeks I've had it. A cast iron skillet is supposed to become better and more seasoned the more you use it. This one, however, is becoming worse. It doesn't heat as evenly as my other cast iron pieces, and no matter how carefully I clean and re-season it (I clean with kosher salt and a lint-free cloth, rinse with hot water, towel-dry then heat-dry it, then re-season with oil), the "seasoning" is becoming more and more uneven.

I had hesitated to buy this skillet since it's made in China and I don't want even the smallest chance that there is lead in this skillet. I should have gone with my hunch because now, more than ever, I'm upset at the idea of unknown elements being in this skillet, especially since the skillet isn't up to par with my other cast iron. I've also heard more and more stories of Emeril cast iron cracking... which I had thought initially due to too-rapid heating or cooking, but now I'm wondering if the Chinese cast iron itself is an inferior compound with sub-par "filler" material.

By point of comparison, four days ago I bought two Lodge 8" skillets. Of course, after my Emeril pre-seasoning experience, I had low expectations. But I was amazed as I gently washed them for the first time and water actually beaded on the surface and rolled right off. I decided to do something bold and daring, and cooked some eggs in the Lodge -only the second time I cooked with it. Amazingly, those eggs slid right out as if the pan were Teflon -a minor miracle with cast iron.

I can't return this skillet since I've used it, but I will be buying a Lodge 12" skillet instead. I'd rather waste my money and KNOW that I'm buying a safe, time-tested, made-in-the-USA item from a company with a longstanding reputation. The Lodge skillet is much less expensive, yet worth so much more... the superior pre-seasoning and the highly reputable manufacturer make Lodge the better deal even if it were higher-priced. Sorry, Emeril, but my vote is with Lodge.

If hadn't looked any further than the reviews here, I wouldn't have purchased this pan, but the reviewers seemed a little 'green' when it comes to cast iron and so I looked around some and ended up buying it. I have to say I am very satisfied.

First of all, I have never seen a 'pre-seasoned' piece of cast iron that was actually meant to be cooked in straight away. The instructions that come with this pan (for those who bothered to read them) recommend further seasoning anyway.

And yes, it does need further seasoning and careful integration into your cooking setup. Cast iron rewards patience, and this pan is a great big piece of iron, heavier and thicker than the Lodge equivalent and made to last for generations. It also is a bit rough textured for a cast iron pan and you will find that it takes longer to build up a nice slick surface, but it's far from impossible as has been suggested. Only the years will tell, but my guess is that it will hold on to its seasoning particularly well once it's fully established.

For the record, this is the method I use to season my cast iron:

-Rub a thin layer of lard or vegetable shortening on the pan, inside and out

-Put the pan in 300 degree oven for 15 minutes, pull it out and pour off any fat that's pooled in the bottom

-Put it back in for a couple hours

-Turn off the oven and let it cool in there

-Repeat this process a few times afterward, but in a 450 degree oven for 45 minutes to an hour

-If the pan is sticky when you're done with a seasoning, you didn't cook it long enough

After owning this product for 2+ plus years the quality is exceptional and the pan is durable and well made.I am not a huge fan of Emeril's television show but his products are excellent.I am of the opinion that the negative reviews of this product are written by people that simply do not know how to work with cast iron.

SCI Scandicrafts Plett Pan 7-cup, Cast IronThe pan arrived well within the promised time...extremely well packaged but, and it is a big but...the pan itself was very badly made. The base, which should have been flat, was so bowed that it rocked gently on the tiny spot in the centre that actually touched the surface. The best one could hope for would be 1 burnt cooked pancake surrounded by 6 raw ones! Very disappointed in the product.

Cuisinart 66-7 Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 7-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart 66-7 Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 7-Piece Cookware SetI have had this set for about a month and have had a chance to use them enough to have an opinion. They are well balanced and perform well, especially the sauce pans and stock pot.The 8 quart stock pot is large enough for a family of 4-6.Cuisinart advertises you can use metal utensils, but when you read their recommended use card, it says metal utensil will scratch the surface. That is a misleading marketing gimmick in my opinion.

My main complaint with the Cuisinart cookware is they heat up very quickly due to the thin 3 mm thickness. The fry pans are the weakest items of the set. After side-by-side comparisons against Emeril's All-Clad Hard Anodized, I much prefer the Emeril brand. The Emeril pans are 5 mm thick and seem to cook more evenly and are not near as temper-mental as the Cuisinarts.

For not much more money, I would look at the higher quality Emeril Hard Anodized set; and sorry Amazon, the best deals for Emerilware are using one of those 20% off coupons at Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens N Things.

As always, you will never find a perfect cookware. This Cuisinart 7 piece is no exception. It is great but not perfect. Its light weight is very impresive and handle isn't that hot after long period of cooking time.Easy to clean. The non-stick surface is better than other brand. It takes very short time to heat up stuff too. However, couple weaknesses, the lit does not have a small hole to release pressure which we have to watch out for overheat spill.Plus the lit is not the same design as the pot itself, it heats up really quick. So be careful. It is not a good idea to buy plastic handle with the lit, it will deform and loose after a while.Over all, it is better than what I expected even though I have owned this set of cookware for 4 weeks.

I've only had these for a short time but I have tried them all and I'm super impressed! Especially for the price!! Fabulous! I made a cheese sauce in the small pan and when I stirred it it pulled away from the pan like dough does! Then I put the sauce in the larger pan with noodles and put the whole thing in the oven to bake mac-n-cheese. Came out perfect and the mac fell right out! I just wiped the pans clean no problem! I'm a huge fan of cooking on the stove then popping the pan straight into the oven and soo many pans can't do that! The only thing I can think of I'd improve is I'd put a vent hole in the lids. These don't have that, but no worries cause they are wonderful in all other ways! I also scrambled an egg in the fry pan with NO oil or butter... didn't stick! Can you believe it!?! Nice. They held up to refried beans too...crusty beans wiped right away!!

Garcima Stovetop Grill/Toaster Pan, 9-1/2-InchA friend brought me a pan like this from Portugal 20 years ago.I've used it at least once a week since.Over time it's gotten scarred and dented.I was worried I would never find another one.I can't tell you how excited I was to find a replacement on Amazon. It's the perfect way to toast baguette for a cheese tray or make toasts for soup.
