Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set ()I can honestly say that my wife and I have never used cookware that is of higher quality than this Anolon Nouvelle 10-Piece Cookware Set. We received a set of Emeril Hard Anodized Nonstick Fry Pans(8" and 12") as a gift recently and though decent, the difference in quality is readily apparent. The handles are thin and heat up, and the pans are thinner and cook less evenly. Comparatively the Anolon Nouvelle cookware is thicker with layered bases for even heating and have the best handles I've ever had the pleasure to take a hold of. They are thick and easy to grip, and the ends stay cool even if the pan or skillet has been sitting on the heat for a while, eliminating the need to use pot-holders. Even the smaller stockpot handles remain cool enough to pick up the pot when cooking (i.e. spaghetti). The bases where the handles meet the pots do warm up a little though.

I've had this set for just under two months, but we do not eat out and everything is home made so this cookware set has undergone a trial by fire, as it were. We've made a variety of dishes on our glass top stove and everything has been cooked to perfection. Water boils rapidly in this cookware, perhaps due to the double full cap bases. Cooking is even too in the pancake test, all of the pancakes were evenly browned the same hue. Rice, stir-frys, spaghetti, soups, sauces, veggies, fried foods -they all are easy to prepare properly with the Anolon Nouvelle set. That isn't to say that they'll keep overcooking from spoiling a meal but it seems hard to do wrong with them. Directions do not recommend cooking with anything higher than medium heat, but we haven't had any issues occasionally going higher. The tight fitting lids help keep dishes from boiling over and lock in the steam to help keep them from drying out. Lids on or off, these are very attractive looking pots and pans. We have a pot-rack, and hanging the Anolons from it gives the kitchen a more elegant look.

I intentionally left some sauce in a pot on medium heat even after we were done making a meal. It dried up and stuck to the bottom and sides and looked like it would be a hassle to clean up. I poured some water and detergent into the pot and let it sit for a while. When I came back to clean it, it wiped off easily. I'm really impressed with the nonstick coating on this set, it just works. The DuPont's Autograph 2 Teflon coating is supposedly the best currently used by Anolon. The flush nonstick rivets are another nice touch. Note: this set is not dishwasher safe. I've re-heated food in the oven a couple of times with no problems, though I doubt I'll ever test the 500 degree limit.

A star comes off for few reasons. The steep price tag may dissuade a casual buyer, though you are paying for a quality product that should last at least five years. You have to decide if a set in this range is what you need. Casual cooks may not need cookware so sturdy. With the amount my family cooks, these will be a good value. Chefs who prefer glass lids will need to look elsewhere. I also wish a 12" skillet was included in the set, but the 10" can handle most of what we'd need the other for. With 6 pans (and 4 lids) in the most common sizes, this set should be able to handle everything except some specialty dishes. The pots are slightly heavier than others I have used, but their sturdy handles make them easy to maneuver and lift.

I am very pleased with how the Anolon Nouvelle set has performed so far and look forward to creating many more mouth watering dishes in them well into the future. If any durability issues arise, I will be sure to append this review to make note of them.

** Update 01/11/2012 My wife and I have been using this cookware for almost a year now and are very pleased with its performance and durability. Everything I posted in my review previously still stands.

** Update 01/29/2012 I've had the opportunity to use very similar Analon brushed stainless steel set and my review for it can be found here:

()Summary:Overall, a solid set of pans. However, there are some trade-offs.I would recommend this set to someone who likes the appearance or the handle design. However, considering the price, I personally would choose to either save money on a set that is very close in quality, or spend a little more money to get an even nicer set.In balancing all the features (some two stars, some five) into one overall rating, I came up with three stars, "It's OK".The smaller cooking surface and the cost were the primary reasons why three stars instead of four or five.

Assumptions:When shopping for a set of pans, I would first make sure I need every pan in the set.Choosing individual pans (instead of a set) can save money and ensure you only buy the pans you truly need. For example, there is not a 12" skillet or 12" sauté pan in this set (which would add cost if you buy separately), and you may not use the included 10" skillet very often (which you still pay for as part of the set). For this review, I assume every pan size and type in this set is needed.I am comparing features relative to all price points (Mauviel, All-Clad, Demeyere, Calphalon, George Foreman, and pans that were "free" with groceries) and rating the overall value based on what else is available relative to the cost of this particular set.

Appearance:One benefit of this set is that there is an exterior glaze which reduces stains that can otherwise permeate untreated anodized aluminum. The exterior is more of a glossy light gray pearl color. It is not the flat charcoal gray of a typical anodized aluminum.I found this difficult to determine from the photo. However, the appearance is solely a matter of personal preference.

Function:The non-stick is not any better or any worse than other pans anywhere near this price range, including the free pans. The flush rivets are coated in non-stick, which is a great feature to avoid accidentally scrubbing delicate non-stick while trying to get sticky rivets clean. The working area in the center of the skillets and the sauté pan are a little smaller than competing pans of the same size. The stock pot is perfectly proportioned between its diameter and height, allowing a little better access than my same-size Calphalon that is taller and thinner.

The solid base helps with even heat distribution at the bottom of the pans, but the thinner anodized aluminum sides do not share this benefit. This is not a clad set of pans, to it's understandable that the sides will not distribute heat evenly. However, the solid exterior base is smaller than the cooking surface of each pan, so heat will be a little different at the center of the pan than it is at the far edges. This may not seem like a big deal, but the copper base is the big selling point and it's partially negated with uneven heat.(Note:The copper will patina unless polished, and this is unavoidable with all copper cookware.)A slight flare at the rim of the stock and sauce pots help pour more easily than all other straight-edge pans where liquid dripples down the side instead of pouring cleanly off the edge.

Hands down, these are the best handles of any cookware I've used. They are thick and very easy to maneuver.By comparison, All-Clad handles are thinner awkward when pouring. The lids look nice, with welded handles (avoiding a rivet). The handle loops look taller, and provide as much or more clearance (for a hot pad, etc.) as other manufacturers.

Analon recommends using no more than medium heat to avoid warping, which isn't uncommon (and to avoid unsafe fumes and melting the non-stick coating into your food), but is a drawback.Being oven safe to 500 degrees is a great advantage. It is not safe for the broiler, but few if any non-stick pans can be used in the broiler. It is also not dishwasher safe, though most nonstick pans get pretty beat up in the dishwasher, even if they claim to be dishwasher safe.

I hope these considerations are helpful. You will not be disappointed if you ultimately purchase this set after considering the pros and cons.

()Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set

It would have been a full 5 stars if you could only use them in the broiler for finishing and use them in the dishwasher, but I live in a dream world!

The very first thing I'm going to say is to read the instructions that come with your cookware set very carefully since the manufacture is taking the easiest way out and has printed the directions that are for more than just the Anolon Nouvell Copper Anodized set. It can be quite confusing if you don't have the directions/instructions right in front of you. The manufacturer notes that the copper-bottomed set needs special care before using the first time. Also, this particular set cannot go in the dishwasher.

The second thing I'm going to say is to take their reprimand about dry boiling quite seriously. I haven't done so in the past, but after reading the warning I'm a bit petrified that I may somehow do so in the future and that would be very ugly!

What I did love hearing is that we can use this cookware in the oven up to 350° degrees Fahrenheit. These are NOT broiler safe. No non-stick is broiler safe.

In my first test of this product I did a simple one which was to simply boil water and to see if having copper clad bottoms made a difference...it did come to a boil somewhat faster but not at warp speed or anything.

I was also a bit worried to find that these pots and pans were a lot heavier, and sturdier than my old stuff as I am getting older now and my grip isn't what it used to be. But the handles are well balanced, and even with a full load in the larger sauce pan, I had no problems getting it to the stove. A real worry since I have a glass top stove and I really don't want to drop anything on it and break it.

Next up was seeing if it heated evenly. And using my hand to test the bottom of the large frying pan I could tell that every part of the bottom was heating at the same time. I know it's not a scientific test, but heck I'm not running a professional test kitchen! I am just your everyday average home cook. I do not cook uber fancy.

I cooked simple food that can leave a mess. Rice for instance. The rice came out lovely and since the saucepan is made so sturdily, and the lids on ALL the pieces fit so snugly, the water never boiled off and was perfectly absorbed by the rice. (Perfect rice)

Hamburger patties---not my favorite on the stove top, but a good test nonetheless. The large pan holds 3 very large burgers and fried them up perfectly.(Perfect patties)I used the frying pan next to cook some fried then simmered pork chops, (Perfect)

Lastly I used this to make a typical Hungarian dish--Chicken Paprikas and Hungarian Dumplings which can be difficult and time consuming to prepare and cook. But, I am happy to report that this cookware has the ability to cook perfectly sautéed onions and stew the chicken. And the stockpot held enough dumplings that it made even them almost fun to do. Again, clean up was a breeze . (Perfect Chicken Paprikas with dumplings)

The non-stick coating is sufficient in that I had no scrubbing to do even when I had a little problem with an over-cooked, (oh okay, I'll admit it I burned something I wasn't watching) spot. Not scrubby needed just a nice short soak in hot water and a sponge. These are not dishwasher safe.

Edited to add---it has been almost a year that I've had these and they remain as perfect as the day I got them.I will even admit to throwing them in the dishwasher now and again with no adversereactions.

The ex-wife took most of the cookware in the divorce time to replace. Reviews of Anolon's products convinced me to give them a try. The holiday deals for their 'Copper' set with bonus pieces was also appealing. Ordered the 10 piece set. The construction, weight, appearance and overall quality were very-very-good BUT you don't buy cookware to look at it. So, fire it up! Went for the basics eggs of various kinds, grilled cheese, browned hamburger, pasta and sauce,... It was so easy to use these pans & pots they heat quickly, cook evenly, and are even easier to clean nothing seems to stick to them! I was so impressed that I purchased a handful of the other pieces not included in the starter set. I am very happy with their products and am sure they will have a long and useful life. A note though: the square griddle they sell as a companion piece is NOT induction compatible to their credit, it DOES say that in their description but it means you might need to look elsewhere for something that is (I'm installing an induction cooktop in the next month so it matters to me).

I received this set as a gift and absolutely love it.The handles feel good in my hand, they are very solid and well made, and they look great on the stove.Although you might think the flush rivets are a minor improvement, they actually make cleaning the items significantly easier.5 star and fully recommended...

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized Saucepan with Cover

Cuisinart 619-16 Chef's Classic Nonstick Hard-Anodized 1-1/2-Quart Saucepan with LidThis is absolutey an awesome pan, and when you factor the price, its a steal. The Quantanium nonstick coating allows you to saute, with no worries about sticking, or scorching. If you want to finish off a dish in the broiler or oven, itsoven safe up to 500 degrees. The riveted stay-cool steel handle allows you to handle the pot while cooking without a potholder, wich is nice if you like to make quick sauces or gravies and pour it right onto food on the plate, also never worry about the handle getting lose. And also while cooking you dont have to open the pot to monitor food, and lose steam or heat due to the break-resistant tempered glass lid. Perfect Perfect Perfect pot.

I purchased both the Cuisinart Hard-Anodized 1-1/2 quart and 2 quart saucepans and am very impressed with the build quality, performance, styling, looks, and value.I have used both several times and find that they distribute heat evenly and work very well on low to medium electric stove burner settings. Clean-up is a snap; hot soapy water makes these saucepans look like they came right from the box.The handles do not get too hot and the non-stick interior shows no sign of deterioration. The glass lids -nice feature -fit just right, however, their handles do get hot so a hotpad is a must.

These saucepans are not as thick or heavy as their Calphalon counterparts but perform just a well and cost less. I think that Cuisinart's non-stick surface is superior to Calphalon's. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I have been slowly building a Cuisinart collection. I am extremely pleased with the value and performance of these pans. I have had the 2qt saucepan for over a year now and it sees frequent use. Great to make home made gravy, sauces, soup, leftovers, or to heat some veggies. I use this pan occaisionally for making rice as well.

The pan heats quickly and evenly, the handle stays cool enough to handle, and the non-stick surface holds up well. I stick to wood and nylon utensils as any non stick surface can be damaged by aggressive metal utensils.

If your looking for a non stick sauce pan buy this one. You'll love the performance and the look. Nice see through lid to watch your veggies too. If used on a long simmer with lid, the lid will get a little hot so keep a pot holder nearby to lift it. Cuisinart makes some great cookware.

This sturdy pan is great for heating up soups and I also use it to stir fry veggies. The nonstick coating works well and I haven't seen any scratches yet. Heats up quickly and evenly. Just make sure you use wood or nylon utensils and keep it medium heat or lower.

Bialetti Aeternum 3 Piece Saute Pan Set

Bialetti Aeternum 3 Piece Saute Pan SetI bought these pans mainly because I had health concerns regarding the Teflon on my non-stick pans (Chalpalon). After reading several articles about more health concerns, I decided not to take the risks and look for alternatives. I saw an Ad in La Cucian Italiana (I'm a subscriber and I cook A LOT) and went to Amazon, read (few) raving reviews and bought three pans. I was persuaded by the fact that ceramic is non-toxic and this who-ha-ha so cool nanoceramic technology and I said to myself this is the real future of pans. Ceramic is a great cooking material for 1000s of years. Those Bialetti scientists had found a way to attach ceramic to Aluminum [that we all know how great (but toxic) it is for cooking)

I'm writing this review a month and a half into using these pans.

The good

-Great looks

-Heat evenly and fast!

-real non-stick

-lightweight

The bad

The nano-ceramic coating on the Aluminum is really "nano". it is so thin that i don't think I'm familiar with a measurement unit to describe it. It is thinner than a paper. it is thinner than a hair. it is as thick as...I really can't find any familiar object that is this thin. If something will come to mind, I will add it later in the review.

Now, you probably ask yourself, how do I know that?

Because after two weeks or so, i started to notice small gray dots on the rims of one of my pans. at first I thought that this is a small grain of something. When I took a closer look, I realized that it is a small hole in the nanoceramic coating that covers --->> Aluminum.

Since it was on the rims of my pan I used the pan more until today, when I found a small hole in the coating in the middle of my pan.

Now I can tell you that the coating is so thin that you can hardly feel the hole in it with your fingers (you have to try hard to identify the hole by touch).

The holes are 10th of a millimeter in diameter, but they are there. On the rims (the top circle) I have many of them by now but I have only one hole in one pan in the center of the pan.

Now a word about me and how I handle my kitchen tools:

I never wash pans and pots in the dishwasher. I wash them always the same night after they cool down. Same is true for my knifes.

In addition, nobody washes my dishes! moreover, I only use wooden spoons when I'm cooking.

I can't believe that I was the cause for these mini holes in the pans.

One more thing to emphasize it is not a scratch just tiny holes. After say 30 days of real use. The real concern here is the Aluminum under the coating which is surely toxic.

There goes ~$100 down the drain.

I will not recommend this product to anyone.

I won this aeternum pan at Fabio from top chef's restaurant. It is beautiful and works great.Unfortunatley I too am beginning to get the pin holes in the coating. My husband uses this pan almost every day for the last month and a half.

Today I was washing it and the handle just broke right off. Lightweight cast iron just snapped. I had planned to buy the set as it is coming out with Fabio's backing on QVC next month. Not so sure now.

Buy Bialetti Aeternum 3 Piece Saute Pan Set Now

I've been using a Teflon set of Bialetti cookware for many years and wanted to supplement my set. Got the recommendation from a web cooking show and made the purchase based on past experience with the brand, cost (very reasonable), recommendations, and looks (they go with the Wolf red very nicely).

Been cooking on these for a month or so now and can state with certainty that they are the best performing pans I've ever used. Nothing sticks to them, I can see the progress of browning as it occurs due to the white interiors, and the pans are light weight enough to encourage flipping rather than stirring.

My pans are stored in a drawer under the cooktop and I put kitchen towels between each to avoid scratching them. This has worked for me so far.

Construction is light duty handles are connected with a central bolt only and are likely to become loose after some time. I'd be happier if they had this set with riveted handles as on my other Bialetti set.

The set did not come with covers fortunately the covers from my previous set fit well. It would be nice if covers were available open stock.

All in all this set of pans was well worth what I paid for them both in terms of performance and looks. I've recommended them to a few friends and will likely add more pieces to my collection over time.

I'll report back if they deteriorate.

5-qt. Saute Pan with Lid

5-qt. Saute Pan with LidI already had purchased two large skillets with this type of lining and I was pleased with them so when I needed a large capacity pan I searched online until I located this one.I have already used it and it worked out well.I have found with this type of lining it worked best for me if I heated the pan and then sprayed with PAM and/or added a small amount of oil.the pans clean up well.

I bought this pan to replace a old non-stick saute pan that was no longer non-stick.I bought this pan based on all of the other positive reviews and they did not even come close to describing how great this pan is.The non-stick coating is fantastic!I have now used this pan three times and nothing has come close to sticking at all making cleanup very easy. This non-stick coating will allow you to brown unlike other non-sticks but not as good as my stainless/copper pan.My only small complaint is that this 5qt pan is slightly smaller in diameter but a bit taller than my other 5qt pans; personally I would have preferred larger and shallower.

OXO Good Grips Brushed Stainless Steel Turner

OXO Good Grips Brushed Stainless Steel TurnerI was tired of nylon and other plastic spatulas and turners. Most of them have a thick edge and are not sufficiently stiff to really scrape something out of a pan. Using a cheap plastic turner to flip hash brown potatoes in my cast iron pan resulted in a melted edge on the turner and bits of potato still stuck to the pan.

This stainless steel turner is the answer to that problem. It is stiff and heavy duty enough to handle pretty much any turning duty in my kitchen. If you need a flexible turner, this is not it. It has a non-slip material inserted at the holding end of the handle that makes it comfortable to hold. However, if you need to "choke up" on the grip and hold it closer to the turner you will be holding the edges of the turned over steel, which is not very comfortable. Being stainless steel, I don't have to worry about leaving it leaning on the side of my cookware and having it melt. The handle is a good length long enough to keep your hand away from the cooking surface but no so long as to make using it awkward. I used it to get the cookies off my cookie sheets and it worked okay for that, even if the edge could be just a little bit thinner to get under the cookies.

If you are looking for a stainless steel turner, this is a good one.

*edit*

I've owned it for two years now (Jan-07 to Jan-09). It's still intact, no chips bends or breaks. Great investment.

I'm simply thrilled with this turner. It is gorgeous (I display it, when not using it, in my Calphalon stainless steel utensil crock), and the best quality turner I've ever owned. The brushing of the steel will help to make any scratching that occurs from usage less noticeable than if it were polished steel, but so far I haven't had a single scratch appear during usage! It is solid and durable-feeling without weighing a lot, VERY comfortable to hold and use, and thin enough to be able to easily get under anything you need to turn or scrape. I mainly use it with my Corning Ware or glass bakeware that gets too hot from oven use to use nylon utensils. I LOVE this turner! WELL WORTH the money spent!

Norpro Enamel Cast Iron Panini Press

Norpro Enamel Cast Iron Panini PressI bought this to use with a Le Creuset enameled cast iron grill pan, 10-1/4 inch square.First the good news:it fits perfectly, it cost a fraction of the Le Creuset press which is around $70, it's heavy and it does the job.Preheating it for a few minutes directly on my gas stove provided nice grill marks on some sausages we grilled. Now the bad news:I seriously doubt that it is truly "enameled" cast iron.It looks no different from old fashioned cast iron, say, made by Lodge. In fact the box mine came in makes no claim to have an enamel coating.I suspect it does have a spray coating of vegetable oil to "preseason" it.The Le Creuset grill pans and presses truly are enameled cast iron. You can see the difference if you compare them side by side. Why does this make a difference? The way they explained it to me at Williams-Sonoma, the enamel gives you the best of both worlds -great heat retention from the cast iron with the easy clean-up of glass/enamel.They told me that because of the enamel the Le Creuset grill pan and press are dishwasher safe, though this is not recommended. The Norpro press must be hand washed and dried. Finally, my press came in a torn, broken box with no instructions, just a small slip of paper with a total of two panini recipes -one requiring 12 ounces of prosciutto -no heating or cleaning directions to be found.I am going to keep this press, but I want others to be informed before purchasing.

The Norprp cast iron panini press is a very good and useful gadget.I had really gotten tired of using a filled-up tea kettle as the top weight on my grilled cheese sandwiches. The press has just the right amount of weight, covers a wide area on my 11-inch calphalon grill pan, and is easy to clean (just a quick wipe-and-dry).The reason I gave it four instead of five stars is that the ridges on the underside are pretty useless. You can't really heat this thing up enough on the gas burner to use it to simultaneously grill the top-side of your sandwich as the product lit promises. It never gets hot enough and loses heat as soon as it comes off the flame. So for me it's just a fancy weight -but that's what I bought it for.

I found this exact panini press at Marshalls for $10...what a steal!

When I got home, I could not wait to use it with my Le Creuset skillet. When I bought the skillet, I did not spend the extra money for the panini press. I had seen this panini press on Amazon and toyed with the idea of buying it there and saving some money instead of spending $70 on the Le Creuset equivalent.

The panini press is a heavy cast iron and is excellent for making paninis! My tuna melt came out beautifully and clean up was a breeze. I highly recommend it, especially if you have the Le Creuset square skillet--it fits perfectly!

The reason I ordered this item was so I could prepare sausage, whipped eggs and biscuit sandwiches for breakfast on the go. These little beauties are the perfect size. Just line them up on the burner, pour in the eggs, and cook on low/med heat. The sausage can either be pressed into and cooked in the miniature skillets as well, or used the skillets as a press so the sausage will be the same size as the egg. Cook while you bake the biscuits. This and a small slice of cheese and you have a mouth full of heaven on the way to work. Sure, it's a specialty item and probably not one you'd use for everything...but then again that's part of the fun of cooking. BTW, love the garlic idea

My first 'good' frypan and I see now why it's good. Others, with the real cladding only on the bottom, can have burning or unwanted hot spots where the cladding stops (especially on sloped sided pans). This, with cladding all the way up, this doesn't happen. I don't think the price can be beat.

Cast Iron Heart Shaped Cake Pan - 9 x 7.5 Inch

Cast Iron Heart Shaped Cake Pan - 9 x 7.5 InchI love this pan, the surface is perfectly nonstick and although it is a little difficult to completely oil this pan it is so worth it. We've made cupcakes with this pan and they came out perfectly. Looks, performs and feels like a high quality product. I'd highly recommend it.

I saw this pan on 101cookbooks.com food blog and I fell in love with it.I searched the net and found it on Amazon. The price is just right.I ordered 2 of the heart shape pan for baking.Good quality.cookies browned evenly.I greased the pan before pouring in the dough.I washed the pan with hot water but no soap.Soap is not good for cast iron.It will last a long time with good care.

KitchenAid Gourmet Non-Stick Aluminum Skillet, Red, 12.5"

KitchenAid Gourmet Non-Stick Aluminum Skillet, Red, 12.5'My husband won't even let me put this in the dishwasher!!Kid you not, he loves this pan. He said there's nothing flimsy about it and he appreciates that :)I like that it's deeper than others we have. You can put more in one pan without worrying about spilling over the edge. Even-heating and the fact that it can be placed in the oven are wonderful features!

this is a nice sturdy skillet with lots of room. The interior finish is good and seems to be holding up well. The bottom is well done and smooth, so with a little care it doesn't scratch my glass top stove.

This particular KitchenAid skillet was purchased as a replacement for my KitchenAid Gourmet Reserve 10-1/2" non-stick skillet.Although the 10-1/2" skillet has not come to its life expectancy as yet, the KitchenAid Gourmet Aluminum Non-Stick 12-1/2" skillet is serving as a supplementary utensil in the kitchen.

While the 12-1/2" skillet is advantageous because of the wide pan and its capacity, the disadvantage is that no glass cover that would fit the skillet snugly was available. This poses a grease-spatter hazard if cooking is done on over an open flame. The grease-spatter hazard may be reduced by employing a large wire mesh spatter shield over the skillet.(I believe amazon.com also sells these, or you may find one inexpensively at your local discount retailers).

Please note that the KitchenAid Gourmet Aluminum Non-Stick skillets now offered on amazon.com are not the Kitchen Gourmet Reserve skillets that were once offered. The KitchenAid Gourmet skillets have been redesigned to include rubber handle grip insulation, whereas the Gourmet Reserve only were solid metal handles. It may be possible to search on other internet websites for the Gourmet Reserve skillets, but the redesigned skillets are just as well-constructed, and are conservatively priced for your kitchen needs.

The KitchenAid Gourmet Aluminum Non-Stick 12-1/2" Skillet received 4 stars only because of the unavailability of the associated glass cover. Had a glass cover been available, this item would have received a rating of an outstanding 5 stars.

Vollrath Z4010 Wear-Ever CeramiGuard II Interior Fry Pan with Cool Handle, 10-Inch

Vollrath Z4010 Wear-Ever CeramiGuard II Interior Fry Pan with Cool Handle, 10-InchI bought my first Lincoln Wearever pan probably about 12 years ago.I have both a 10 inch and 7 inch pan, but only the 7 inch pan has the ceramigard coating. In using these pans nearly daily for all of that time, I haven't had to replace either of them until today.

I suppose you'll want to know why I'm buying another one, so to make a long story short, a friend was using the pan while we were camping and he was using a serrated knife to cut vegetables while he was cooking. In the pan.:-(Well they don't make a non stick pan that can put up with that abuse and my non-stick coating is now trashed, so here I am looking for a replacement 10 inch pan.The old one was not a ceramigard finish, but used the older wearguard finish.

As for my experiences in using these pans, they take quite a lot of abuse.I've used these on high heat for stir fry's and never had the coating break down. The only thing you do have to worry about is smoking your frying oil which will cause the oil to polymerize onto the coating and it's then very hard to remove. Also, the weight of these pans is superior to everything else I've found which helps to ensure even cooking. My old 10 inch pan weighs about 32 ounces with the rubber handle removed and most of that weight is in the thick bottom and sides of the pan. Finally, the nice gently sloped sides make flipping food very easy.I can even do eggs over easy without picking up a spatula in the morning (note: this takes a bit of practice).

To me, this is a no-brainer.Just buy it and don't think too much about it.It's exceedingly rare to find something of this quality in today's market.

Bought this pan to replace the one I bought over 20 years ago. That's right 20 years. My old pan finally wore out, mostly because other pans were being stored on top of it.The coating is the best out there and 20 years of regular use proves it.

This pan is great.Heats up extremely quick, non-stick coating is thick. This is a commercial level pan... if you take care of it you will be rewarded with years of non-stick cooking.Cleanup is a breeze, quick wipe with water and a paper towel. No complaints so far.

Had this pan for about a month now.Good non-stick surface.Quality construction; sits flat on the burner.I was afraid the blue handle might come loose, but it has stayed tight so far.The only complaint is with the shipping. This pan comes from outside restuarant supply co. and they simply stuffed the pan between the layers of a flattened box, applied tape and mailed it.A good pan like this deserves better treatment.

Scanpan Classic 12-1/2-Inch Covered Chef Pan

Scanpan Classic 12-1/2-Inch Covered Chef PanExcellent non-stick properties, but like every other non-stick coating I have ever come across, it will eventually start to peel.Important differences that I should point out though are: 1) Much easier to brown on this pan, not sure if it's because of the high heat that this non-stick pan can handle, or the fact that because it is a large sized pan foods can more easily be spread out so things don't parboil; 2) Oil doesn't seem to smoke; 3) It's lasted longer than any other of our non-stick pans with everyday abuse; 4) can handle our oven at 500 degrees; AND 5) (and most important) The SCANPAN company truly does seem to stand behind their product! I called up about 2-3 weeks ago noting that my pan was starting to peel (just a few small scratches/peels near the center), and they immediately emailed me a RA # and form to return the damaged pan and less than 2-weeks after I sent in my original Chef/Saute pan, we received via FedEx a brand new one.

Sizewise, it's noticeably larger (wider and deeper) than Calphalon's Everyday Pans (Simply Calpholon or Contemporary versions) but not too big like the Ecolution Artistry 14 Inch Colossus Pan (all available on Amazon by the way). BUT, it is much more expensive.

Yes, this line of cookware is expensive. And yes, it is worth it.I have a gas stove, so I do not have a "must be level" issue. This pan just replaced 3 older pieces of cookware (I did keep my Revereware pan sentimental). It heats and cooks evenly, uses less heat to cook completely, and cleans up like a dream. The manufacturer says this can go in the dishwasher, but I do not do that with my good pans.I have decided to replace all of my old cookware with Scanpan items.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Baking Dish, Cobalt Blue

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 15-3/4-by-10-3/4-Inch Rectangular Baking Dish, Cobalt BlueAs a classically trained chef, I have an extensive collection of kitchen items not always found in a typical home. I tend to think of kitchen products from a professional point of view, although I enjoy many items made for home use. Le Creuset is uncommon in professionally kitchens; however they manufacture quality and effective products.

Le Creuset's porcelain enameled cast iron cooking vessels are cast from molten iron formed in single use sand moulds.Covering cast iron with porcelain enamel not only looks good, but has multiple benefits. The enamel, being a solid coating, is one of the most hygienic surfaces to cook on, does not stain, absorb odors, retain flavors, and is easy to clean eliminating the need for seasoning and preventing rust issues. Limit cooking tools to plastic or wood to prevent damaging the enamel.

Cast iron is a highly efficient material which absorbs and distributes heat efficiently. For this reason, it is recommended to use on low to medium heat. There are a few exceptions like boiling water where cooking on high heat is appropriate and okay. Otherwise, cooking with high heat may cause food to stick, discolor the enamel coating, or unevenly cook the food. Cast iron also retains heat, keeping food warm while serving.

The benefits of cooking with Le Creuset cast iron are many, but let's get down to the roasting pan specifically. This pan holds 5 1/4 quarts of food, measures 9 3/4 x 14 x 3 inches internally, and weighs 10.2 pounds. 5 1/4 quarts will typically feed 8 10 people when it comes to casseroles, consider the rectangular baker for smaller recipes. Except for roasts, the roasting pan tends to do best if at least 3/4 full. Any less and you may overwhelm your food with the pan's evenly dispersed heat.

I find the many benefits of Le Creuset make this pan a worthy purchase. This pan adds a desirable crispy texture to dishes like mac-n-cheese.Add the Le Creuset 9 by 11-1/2 inch roasting rack for roasting chickens and pork loins keeping them out of the grease. Some other possibilities for this pan include casseroles, deep dish pizza, pork chops covered with cornbread dressing, dinner rolls, baked squash, lasagna, scalloped potatoes, cobblers, pineapple upside down cake, or bread pudding. The enamel is attractive, while the cast iron keeps the food warm for serving.Cleaning and caring for this dishwasher safe pan is easy. When properly taken care of, this pan will last a lifetime.

One feature that people tend to complain about is the cost. The cost does seem steep compared to other pans made from other materials. Heck, cast iron doesn't seem like it should be expensive when comparing to that old cast iron pan past generations have used for cornbread and camping. However the manufacturing process requires making a mould for each and every pan produced. They then go through the enameling process before shipping these heavy pans. If you take what goes into making and distributing these high quality cast iron products, the cost tends to make sense. Then consider that this pan will easily last a lifetime when taken care of.

Knowing the benefits and the pleasure I get from using Le Creuset, I don't hesitate to recommend this pan.Purchase this pan and use it for its strengths, you won't be disappointed.

PROS:

Efficient absorption and distribution of heat

Hygienic enamel cooking surface

Does not stain, absorb odors, or retain flavors

Easy to clean when not abused or misused

Can be transferred from stove top to the oven to the table

Dishwasher safe

Can easily last a lifetime

CONS:

Its heavy, as cast iron tends to be weighing in at about 10.2 pounds

I debated the merits of a cast iron versus a stoneware baker with the sales person at Le Creuset, and her recommendation of cast iron ws on the mark.I use this pan mostly for lasagna. While some complain of its weight, the even heating and heat retention are worth it.

I love Le Creuset products. They cook very evenly. They can be heavy once the food is in the pot, but very worth it. I am hoping to expand my Le Creuset baking ware in the future. I have three products of theirs now and love them. I highly recommend this product.

Presto 06626 11 inch Electric Skillet w/glass lid

Presto 06626 11 inch Electric Skillet w/glass lidI love to cook, but I have a small, apartment-style kitchen, with a narrow stove and limited counter top space with which to work on. I do most of my cooking and prep work in a compressed L-shaped area where the stove is to my left and my kitchen sink just around the corner to my right. I tuck this electric skillet in the corner of the "L" and either use it as an extension of my stove, or instead of. The skillet's non-stick surface is so smooth, it's perfect for making dishes like crab cakes, where I pre-cook various ingredients for use in the final assembly stage, and can simply give the skillet a wipe with a paper towel between each cooking cycle. I only have to wash the pan once at the end of the meal (and the small pan size fits perfectly in my small sink). The skillet heats up quickly, and the temperature control lights up while coming up to temperature and turns off when the desired temperature is reached. I've also noticed that my skillet is reasonably level on my reasonably level counter top (e.g., cooking oil doesn't puddle up in any corner of the skillet), and the skillet's clear glass lid is very handy for monitoring food that is simmering.

Additional Information:

1. The skillet's cooking area is 11 x 11 inches; and its width, including handles, is 11 x 14.5 inches.

2. The power cable is 30 inches long, which works great if you have an electrical outlet nearby. I like it, because I prefer not to have a lot of redundant electrical cord laying about and taking up space.

3. Temperature control settings range from 200 to 400, with an additional Warm setting.

4. I've found nothing in the documentation that states the temperature of the Warm setting, but my (unscientific) tests with my instant read thermometer indicate that Warm on my skillet runs about 168 degrees Fahrenheit; and it doesn't bring water to a boil. There's an unofficial "Warm" setting, just below the labeled Warm setting, at the first point on the temperature control where the heat light comes on.This unofficial setting on my skillet runs about 108 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. The skillet's heating element is hotter in the center of the skillet (e.g., the center crab cake browns faster), but not so much that it caused any of my food to burn.

6. Both the lid and skillet (but not the power control) are dishwasher safe, though the documentation that comes with the skillet warns that dishwasher detergent will discolor the bottom of the skillet. I've found the skillet easy to clean in (a cleared out) sink, so I haven't bothered to try it the dishwasher.

7. This skillet isn't designed for deep frying, and the documentation states that very clearly.

This is a very nice mid sized skillet (perfect for two adults). It gets quite hot, enough to brown hamburger for hamburger steak with onions and gravy. One thing about this skillet though is it does get very hot so therefore it needs to be dialed way back in order to let foods just simmer.I don't find that to be a deal breaker but just be aware if left at higher temps it can cook the liquid down and potentially ruin your meal.Overall, I'm rating it 5 stars for it's size, design and yes, for it's heating capacity.

I just bought this skillet. It is made exactly like the Presto 16 inch version which is very highly rated by users.I wanted an 11 or 12 inch skillet and I found this one on sale at a price I could not pass up.It is a great size for most skillet recipes and easier to store away than the 16 inch model. It has 1000 watts.I had a Presto electric wok and it perfomed perfectly but did not like wok cooking so I gave it to my daughter. This skillet will be perfect for stir fry cashew chicken and Alton Brown's onion soup recipe.

Live in an apartment provided by the institution I work for. I eat at the cafeteria, but occasionally want to cook my own meals.Don't have a stove so decided to buy this small skillet.Perfect for my need! The non-stick surface requires little or no oil. Cleans easy.

This is the first electric skillet I ever owned. It cooks wonderfully.I grill, roast, simmer and boil with it.A friend was infuriated to discover that it did roasted vegetables better than her very expensive micro-wave/convection oven. There is, however, a couple of problems with this item.My version (with the plastic rather than glass lid), has legs that gradually unscrew and have to be periodically tightened--no big deal.A bigger problem is that the non-stick falls off and you eventually eat it.This is not good.I have bought two of these and been given one.All three have lost their non-stick.I am looking at other brands now--and am willing to pay a lot more.
