Ecolution Heavy Weight Eco-Friendly Fry Pans

Ecolution Heavy Weight 12 Inch Fry PanI replaced an old supermarket brand that had lost its finish and I like this pan more. The Ecolution's is heavier, but not at all too heavy. The cool silicone handles are much better than the chrome handles on the old pan.The guarantee of the finish is what sold me on this product. I would recommend it to anyone. Also, there is no longer a label stuck to the pan (like a prior reviewer had.)The "sleeve" it came in slides off and you an use the pan right away.

I bought this pan because of it's heavy weight. So far I have not been able to use it because they place a sticker in the middle of the pan that doesn't peel off. I tried to peel it off and the glossy surface tore away in strips. So then I soaked it in water overnight. I was able to remove the rest of the paper but now I'm left with a gummy sticky residue in the middle of the pan. It appears they put this label on all their pans to boast about being eco friendly. I know I could use a product like Goof Off to remove it but Goof Off is hardly eco friendly and I would rather not use a toxic substance on a pan I'm going to cook with.

I emailed them to ask them how to remove the residue. I wonder if they will respond. I don't understand why manufacturers place these difficult to remove stickers on their products. I once bought a stainless barbecue and it took me over an hour to remove the 8.5" x 11" sticker and the glue residue left behind by the sticker they placed on it. Ok enough of this rant. I'll edit this post if I hear from Ecolutions and let everyone know what they say. If I ever get to actually cook with this pan I'll also let everyone know how it performs.

UPDATE: I have been using this pan for awhile now mostly for cooking eggs. At first it didn't seem to work all that well but I always add a light coating of olive oil to any pan I use prior to cooking with it and over time this has improved the performance of the pan. It is now my goto pan for most small cooking needs and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a larger pan from this company. I do think it benefits from "seasoning" the pan prior to use.

Also to their credit the company did respond to my email but could not offer a solution to the residue issue but I had already taken care of it. They did say they no longer apply the stickers to their pans.

After trying some other PFOA free pans, I haven't been too impressed. When this one arrived and I opened the box, I still wasn't impressed. It looks cheap and like something you'd get at a large discount place. However, once I picked it up, this is clearly heavier and sturdier than it looks.

I 'seasoned' the pan according to the instructions.Since receiving it, I've probably used it at least twice a day for a couple of weeks now.Where I used to need a tablespoon of oil, I now use either no oil at all, or maybe a teaspoon for flavor. The non-stick is not so exciting that I'd write home about it, but then, it IS non-stick and seems to work.It is great being able to properly pre-heat a non-stick pan before using it.What else can you really expect from it?The instructions say to re-season the pan once in a while with a little oil, and that should keep this going for a long time.

My only complaint about the pan is the silicone handle.I'm not fond of silicone handlesbut there is no option without it.It is also only oven safe to 350F because of the silicone when the pan itself could go higher.I suggest they lose the silicone or offer the pans without it.

The weight is good, non-stick works, PFOA free, an all around nice pan.I give it 4 instead of 5 because of the silicone but still highly recommend these pans. I bought the 9.5" first but plan on getting the others.

This is really high end for the price! I used the 9.5 inch for the first time yesterday and it cooked a chicken breast in oil with spices and cleaned up great. This isn't too heavy but has a nice heft to it and the silicone grip handle is a nice touch.

One thing to keep in mind with ANY non-stick cookware is NEVER use commercial non-stick sprays in them because most contain Silicon Dioxide which will break down the non-stick coating and ruin them. Ever since I learned that tidbit of information, even my cheapest non-stick cookware has lasted almost 5 times as long (I still use much higher heat than recommended which is why my non-stick does eventually give out on me).

The only downside is it is hard to find a lid that fits a 9.5 inch pan but other than that I am really pleased with this.

I'd tried PTFE/PFOA-free pans before as I have pet birds and overheated PTFE is well-known to kill birds. First I tried one of the earliest Green Pan models and was disappointed that they weren't really nonstick and didn't brown food. After years of searching for a better solution, I bought my first Ecolution Heavy Duty frying pan. It was pretty much love at first use.

I've had the original pan (12") for about a year now and use it daily. It browns food well (at least tofu and veggies) and is still non-stick and a cinch to clean up after all this time. I think the pan is every bit as good as the top-of-the-line Calphalon pans my friends own, without the PTFE risk. There are minor scratches on the non-stick coating and the black outside finish after all this time, but no change in performance.

I've bought the other two sizes of frying pans now as well as a set for my mother and they work just as well. I strongly recommend these pans.
