Wolfgang Puck WPWB0040 Rotating Grill-and-Bake Waffle Iron

Wolfgang Puck WPWB0040 Rotating Grill-and-Bake Waffle IronWe bought this waffle maker primarily because of its removable plates.

After using it about 4 times, it became very difficult to rotate the waffle maker after pouring the batter. After it cooled off and was cleaned, I took the bottom off of the unit. There is a plastic tab that locks the plates in a horizontal position until you close them together. When you slide the handle forward it presses down on the plastic tab and allows the waffle maker to rotate.

Well, the plastic tab is spring-loaded in a metal bracket. This metal bracket is attached to the plastic frame with 4 screws which screw into 4 flimsy nubs molded into the plastic frame. All 4 of the nubs had broken off allowing the metal bracket to slide around inside the waffle maker.I feel we were lucky that the metal bracket didn't cause a short circuit in one of the printed circuit boards inside the waffle maker.I have removed the metal bracket with the spring-loaded plastic tab from the waffle maker. The plates can tip slightly to the side when pouring in the batter, but otherwise it works OK.

There is some sort of plastic tab at the back of the waffle maker that I can hear and feel lock into place after the plates are rotated for cooking the waffle.Based on the cheap construction I observed when I had the bottom removed, I am expecting that tab to break in the near future.

We certainly won't be buying another Wolfgang Puck waffle maker.

Not sure why waffle manufactures don't make more irons with removable plates? It just makes sense. If you are like me and have owned several waffle makers without removable plates you know that clean up is a serious pain over time. This maker is one of few I could find that has the removable plates. enough said! Waffle manufactures listen up! Start making more irons with removable plates to make life easier on us waffle lovers!

This maker comes with separate plates for grilled sandwiches too!

This maker is small but makes deep Belgian waffles. Clean up is a breeze! Very happy I bought this maker!

I have been frustrated for years with appliances that have fixed plates.Wielding an appliance around while cleaning it is difficult and there are concerns about the electronics not being compatible with water. When I saw this product I thought I had to get it.You don't see waffle irons (or other press appliances) that have removable plates every day.Of course with Woflgang's name on it, I "knew" it had to be well-made so I grabbed my credit card and started ordering.

After working with the product I am less than satisfied with the materials chosen for its construction. There is a lot of plastic.I understand the use of plastic parts for reducing the overall weight and cost of a product.Unfortunately, the designers of this product used plastic parts where stress is applied during the loading of the waffle batter and the removal of the plates. You can actually see and feel the flex of the unit when the stress is applied.I haven't analyzed the plastics so I can't tell you if they are designed for that amount of stress, but intuitively I'm pretty sure this appliance wont be functioning after several years of use.

I have become a regular Amazon customer, but I bought this Wolfgang Puck Iron from a different source; Nevertheless, everyone should be aware of the poor quality.

We do not prepare waffles very often, but figured we should spend a little extra and get a good quality unit. Unfortunately, we ignored the many poor reviews all

over the internet regarding this product. We owned it for less than 10 months and used it maybe a dozen times before the electronics completely failed. It no longer turns on or heats up at all. We called the vendor, Frontgate, who did not want to support or help us. We then contacted the manufacturer who said "Sorry, we cannot help you." It is now a dead weight in the cabinet soon to go to the town dump.

We all get appliances that fail sometimes, but the support afterwards is key and Puck does not stand behind it. I guess at the $100+ dollars we spent on it and the 10-12 meals we got from it, we could have gotten a nice breakfast special at the local diner. Stay away from this unit.

Made a good waffle but after three uses we could not get it to turn 180 degrees, not a very good product for the money, needs a better design.
