All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille Pan

All-Clad LTD 12-Inch Round Nonstick Grille PanI am not a big fan of the All Clad LTD line but I do love this pan.I much prefer the All Clad polished stainless steel line (I have almost every piece and love it). This grill is a perfect size for grilling for 1-4 people.I debated on the grande size, I decided that since I don't grill everyday it didn't make sense to spend the extra money and deal with storing the larger size. Also, I selected the round style over the square, my stove burners are round so I figured that the round style made more sense for me.

I often marinade chicken tenders in Emeril Lagasse's marinade (he has several different marinades that you can find in your local supermarket) a day in advance and heat up this pan and toss on the chicken.I usually make a veggie or two and some rice, it is a very quick and easy dinner and is also very healthy! You can also use this pan for everything from burgers to a tuna steak.

This pan is not dishwasher safe due to the nonstick surface, but don't worry it is a breeze to clean.I have the George Foreman grill that has been sitting in the cabinet collecting dust since I bought this pan.I don't like the George Foreman grill because you can't really wash the grill surface very well. The grill surface should be removable so you can really clean it.This pan is very, very well made and is backed by a lifetime warranty.Sometimes this pan is sold as a special..., if you see it grab it.It is a steal at that price.Once you try All Clad you will be hooked too! Highly recommended! A+!

I've been using grill pans for years and have bought many brands. This is the best one, hands-down.I gave away all five of the others I owned after the first time I used this pan.I love All Clad cookware in general and this is my first non-stick.The results are so superior to any other grill pan I recommend it to everyone. If you want healthy and perfectly prepared grilled food, whether it's fish, meat or vegetables, without a drop of added fat, this pan is for you.Buy it.

I'm a big fan of All-Clad and have a lot of All-Clad LTD and MasterChef pots and pans.I feel All-Clad has a great design methodology and makes great quality gear. Also, their non-stick coating is the best in the business. This grill pan, however, isn't actually clad the secret of its low price. It's made from a single piece of anodized aluminum like a Calphalon pan as a brief examination of the edge reveals. The beefy handle is the most All-Clad thing about it.The nonstick coating isn't the usual All-Clad type either although it certainly is top quality. As a grill pan, this one is very good that's not the problem.

Grill pans make grill marks on your food but are no substitute for actually grilling. There's no smoke flavor or high heat caramelization. The only thing the grill pan gives you is the sear marks. To that end, the nonstick surface fights you.Metal gives much better sear marks than nonstick coatings. In order to get a nonstick pan to give good sear you must really crank the heat up.This makes a lot of smoke which make a good lid a necessity.Sadly, this pan doesn't include a lid.I found that the Calphalon 12" "Everyday" pan's lid is a perfect fit by coincidence so I use it every time.

I have the luxury of a grill outside my kitchen door.I'm the kind of hardy soul who has no problem stepping out in the snow in shirtsleeves to flip the steaks.I find all grill pans to be a very poor substitute to actually grilling.Maybe if I lived in the city and couldn't grill as easily I'd be more enamored of this pan.As it is, I mainly use it under duress (such as during bad rain storms when I reluctantly must grill indoors).

I recently tossed a Calphalon grill pan in the trash after I could not clean it after use. Looking for another grill pan to replace it, I found this gem. I don't know how Amamzon can offer this high quality pan for this price, but grab it. Wonderful heat distribution, very large cook surface and NOTHING sticks!!

I could not believe that I found this pan at this price.I was further astounded when I received it and started cooking on it.It is absolutely fabulous.NY Strip streak comes out truly delicious when you simply sprinkle some salt and cracked pepper on it and then throw it on the grill pan. Also works great for bacon. Also works great for burgers. Also works great for...anything you could think of.For cleaning, I recommend immediately filling it with water after taking the food out, enough to cover all the bottom, and then let it sit til after dinner and you start doing the dishes. If you do this, then I recommend an OXO brush (ASIN B0000CFQOB) with nylon bristles.Gently brush between the grooves to loosen the remaining material and then use a sponge.I recommend the nylon brush because it is hard to get a sponge to get every bit of remaining material along the grooves. But overall this is incredibly easy to clean and even easier to cook on.I still cannot believe I paid only fifty for this item.

Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron 8 inch Square Panini Press, Caribbean Blue

Lodge Color ECPP43 Enameled Cast Iron Square Panini Press, Island Spice Red, 8.5-inchThe weight and size is phenomenal.I put the panini press on a burner while I warmed up the other skillet, turned off both burners, added a sandwich, and after much sizzling and 6 minutes it was a perfect panini.

The color however doesn't match the photo. I was hoping for a bright emerald green, but it is a dark hunter green. It's not a deal breaker.

But the real problem from Lodge "America's Original Cookware" is that this is made in China.I've been avoiding cookware from China because of concerns about lead in the enamel glazes. These suspicions may be unfounded but if lead can turn up in toothpaste & baby food, cookware can't be far behind. So enameled cast iron from Martha Stewart and Batali were out, and so I opted for the pricier Le Crueset & Staub. Lodge seemed like an excellent American product. I'll keep this piece but it will be the last one.

This was purchased as a gift for my wife off of her wishlist.

This product does exactly as stated. It's a good weight that's easy to handle but adequate to press.

The press is easy to clean especially for those used to cleaning cast iron.

I would recommend paring this with the Lodge Grill Pan

If you're looking for a grill press to do the job this one is an economical winner.

We had been wanting a larger press, but didn't want to spend a fortune on one.

I've tried the cast aluminum ones and they just don't have enough weight to handle all jobs.

This press from Lodge is priced right and looks good.

I can use it in a large skillet or on the stovetop grill.

From sandwiches to bacon to steaks, it gets the job done and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

What you want with a panini press is weight, an oven friendly handle and width enough to cover your food especially if you use it for more than grilled sandwiches. The Lodge is the heaviest I've found for an item that is a 5th the cost of competing Staubor LC products. (I paid $20 for mine in brown). The prices varies by color so click on all the options before you buy.The pork chops I make with this and the lodge grill pan are AMAZING. I would not buy any other grill press .. ever. Hint.. pre-heat your press either in the pan on on open flame (on low) for an even better grill exp.

Want Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron 8 inch Square Panini Press, Caribbean Blue Discount?

I bought this Panini Press more as a want than a need and I am extremely happy I did. I had purchased the Lodge Emerald green grill pan with it as well. They work fantastic as a set. This Panini Press (5lbs) is about 2.5lbs heavier than the one Le-Creuset offers and works better. I use it to make grilled cheese, paninis (obviously), a bacon press (which keeps the splatter down i might add), and about 100 other uses. I have a glass cooktop and I do put this directly on a burner and let it heat up while I cook in the grill pan. After I take it off the burner tho and make contact with food I just leave it in the grill pan after that if it needs to be reheated for whatever reason. I am extremely happy with this product. I use refined peanut oil on this to give it a non-stick coating. Refined peanut oil has a very high smoke point so because this can get pretty hot I prefer it over EVOO in this particular case. (also I apply the oil AFTER its been warmed up to prevent making a mess on my stove top). This product comes with the plastic handle which for all intents and purposes works fine. All the other Lodge Enameled products (as of January 2012) come with the stainless steel handle.

Lodge Color vs Lodge L-series: I talked directly to their customer service to get the low down on this subject. Both sets are enameled the same way by the same vendor with the same amount of enameled layers. They obtain the same quality control. Other than the obvious shape and color differences the only thing that separates the 2 sets are the stainless steel handles and embellishments on the L-series. I was also told by customer service that they are phasing out the L-series and are going to continue to move forward with the Color series.

Just an FYI the Emerald Green is a little darker than the Le Creuset Fennel Color if you are looking to match the two sets. You might notice more of a difference in color between the Lodge's dutch oven and Le Creuset's French oven (same thing) but overall they are quite close in color. But between the skillets you wont notice hardly any difference unless you examined them right next to each other. They actually match quite well. I own Le Creuset pieces in Fennel and Lodge Color pieces in Emerarld Green. I have not seen either out perform the other.

HIC Brands that Cook Essentials Stainless Steel Splatter Screen

HIC Brands that Cook Essentials Stainless Steel Splatter Screen, 13-InchI bought two of these in different sizes.Excellent.I like the handle (much better than the silly knob in the middle of some such lids).Well made.Fine mesh stainless steel, will clean easily without rusting. My last splatter lid had a sort of thick mesh, with gaps inside it where it was impossible to clean. These don't.

Spatters go through the screen.Same cleanup as without so not impressed.Maybe I expected too much and hoped it would reduce the stove cleanup.

If you care for this item it will last a long time. Splatter screens are good for stopping splatter but also good for keeping heat in a a pan. It helps the food cook a little faster without totally blocking the airflow. I like to use it when the eggs are almost done cooking and you turn it off to set. It keeps the heat in the pan to finish off the eggs. I have also used it to set fried foods on to drain, and as a cooling rack for the to many cookies I baked. :) Think outside of the box and you will have lots of uses for your kitchen tools...no unitaksers! :)

ControlIinduct Non-Stick Skillet Size: 9.4-in.

ControlIinduct Non-Stick Skillet Size: 9.4-in.Along with everyone else, we love the non-stick features of a coated pan, but not the flaking and loss of non-stick surface that often occurs. (Many argue that it's foolish to buy a quality non-stick pan because the non-stick surface fails long before the rest of the pan wears out.) In our experience, surface damage occurs for only two reasons: (1) using a sharp utensil to stir (easily avoided), and (2) overheating the surface (which seems to happen to everyone from time to time).

If you use an induction cooktop, this pan makes a unique contribution. The magnetic layer, which does the induction heating, loses it's magnetism at higher temperatures, the pan stops heating, and doesn't get any hotter. With an induction stove, you can't heat the pan hot enough to damage the cooking surface. Our pan is now nearly 3 1/2 years old, has been used almost daily, and appears brand new. Food doesn't stick (typical Demeyere quality). But more importantly, despite several inadvertent efforts to overheat the pan, we can confirm that the alloy works... As close to a lifetime coated pan as you can ever hope to come. And like all Demeyere cookware, of superb quality. We've tried all of the well known brands; Demeyere is our favorite, and this pan has a special place in the collection.

I'm not aware of any other product that has this feature. PS: We love our induction stove (Miele); I can't imagine going back to gas, electric coils or glass top coils (all of which we had previously used). The control of heat, evenness of heating, control of time and temperature all give extraordinary cooking control. With experience, everything cooks faster, takes less effort, and tastes better.

Scanpan Classic 14-inch Fry Pan

Scanpan Classic 14-inch Fry PanI bought my 14 inch Scanpan at a chef supply store more than five years ago. The first year or so I used this pan constantly for everything from fried eggs to fried rice. The non stick surface was excellent, and I was extremely happy with the performance. At first, since it was rated to do so I did use metal utensils on it; I did manage to create two small scratches though so at some point I switched to using wood or nylon utensils in this pan. BTW, since they say metal utensils are okay to use I felt the scratches were a warranty issue and long story short the warranty claim was denied. A little more than five years later I'm not sorry I bought his pan but considering the sum of the reasons below, it's unlikely that I would buy another:

Pros:

Outstanding performance in the nonstick department for about 18 months of heavy use.

This pan is so large I store it in the oven so of course eventually I forgot to check the oven before turning it on and there was no damage to either the handle or pan.

The "lip" across the other side of the handle makes it easier to move the pan if it's loaded; just grab with a potholder and it acts like a second handle.

It cleans up very easily. When new it is effortless but even these days even when stuff is stuck to it, I just put the pan back on the warm stove, add a cup or two of water to the pan and let it sit for a half hour or so, and using a nylon dish brush everything comes off relatively easily.

The surface of my pan has never bubbled or warped and other than the couple of scratches, today, over five years later it might be a shade darker but looks just about as good as the day I bought it.

Cons:

Relatively expensive for the time it remains truly non stick.

For such a large surface it does heat fairly evenly on a gas stove but on an electric I find that it heats quite unevenly.

The non stick nature is long since a memory but I still use this pan. With things that should NOT stick like bacon cooked over low slow heat I find that the surface gets brown bits stuck to it and I have to watch the pan carefully to avoid burning the contents.

Bottom line: As far as non stick choices go, these are especially expensive and since non stick apparently has a finite lifespan no matter what it's made of or who it's made by, maybe there are less expensive, more even heating, better performing choices out there. Some may point out the "lifetime warranty" *IF* they will honor it but returning a 14 inch HEAVY pan at my expense would still mean upwards of $20-25 of additional cost to me *plus* any handling fees. So, with consideration of the cost and performance versus lifespan of this pan, for a little less than two "good" years of non stick service I'd have to say I would not purchase this brand of pans again.

This is my third Scanpan purchase and I love their products.Several years ago I had a problem with 1 pan and was able to return it for a replacement after 2 years of use.I am totally satisfied with their products.

The best fry pan I have ever used. Love the 14 inch size. Using on a induction range with the max. heating element being 12 inchsyet the pan heats evenly out to the fully 14 inchs of pan width. Get great cooking results and never need to heat above medium even for stir-fry.

The non-stick surface of the pan is truly non-stick to this point after 3 months of use. Now have three of these pans: a 10 inch and a 8 inch. I follow the care instructions by hand washing right after use while the pan is still warm and never use metal utensils. Have used other premium fry-pans such as All-Clad and the Scanpan fry-pan out perform on all counts.

I wanted a 14 inch frying pan to make cooking for additional guests easier.I have 2 older Scanpans that guaranteed the finish whether metal or non-metal utensils were used.I did have to return one of the older Scanpans that had pitted, but have been happy with this brand overall. My older pans are not truly non-stick and do require some soaking depending upon what has been cooked in them. The new pan does recommend using non-metal utensils to protect the non-stick finish. It cleans beautifully, so you don't need any non-stick spray.Non-stick spray can actually make cleaning non-stick pans much more difficult.Afterall, that's the point of getting a non-stick finish to begin with.I don't use the pan often, but have been very happy with it's performance. It is about 14.5 inches across and 23.5 inches from handle to handle(outside measurements).I also purchased the glass lid and have used it every time I've used the pan. It is somewhat heavy, so having the small extension handle on the pan has been very helpful. The extension handle does get hot so make sure to use a good hot pad when lifting.Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend purchasing both the pan and glass lid if you cook for larger groups. It's a good investment.

Farberware Aluminum Nonstick 4-Cup Egg Poacher Skillet

Farberware Aluminum Nonstick 4-Cup Egg Poacher SkilletYech! The first time I used this poacher I had eggs that had a strange scent and taste. As one other reviewer noted, I deduced this came from the plastic cups.So I soaked and washed and soaked and washed and soaked and washed. To no avail-my eggs STILL smell funny and taste sort of weird.I will be replacing this with something that has metal egg cups.Other than the scent and taste imparted to my eggs, this works well.I guess a food stylist might find it handy for making pretty, photograph-ready INEDIBLE eggs.

2002: WELL, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE NICE TO HAVE A WELL MADE EGG POACHER HANDY. AS I ASSEMBLED THE PAN I THOUGHT IT LOOKED PECULIAR...THE NON-STICK COATING IS CONTINUOUS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE PAN TO THE OUTSIDE; AND IS ALSO ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE LID. IT LOOKS LIKE A HARD-ANODIZED "WANNABE".

THE CUP HOLDING INSERT IS A BIT FLIMSY AND THE BLACK CUPS ARE JUST A BIT SMALL.THERE IS A WARNING NOT TO LET THE PAN GET TOO HOT BECAUSE THE EGG CUPS WOULD MELT ABOVE 200 DEGREES...THIS SEEMED A BIT STRANGE SINCE WATER BOILS AT 212 DEGREES.

I WASHED ALL THE PARTS, COATED THE CUPS WITH A BIT OF OLIVE OIL TO HELP THE EGGS SLIDE OUT MORE EASILY. AS THE WATER HEATED UP, I STARTED TO SMELL A PECULIAR ODOR LIKE PETROLEUM BY-PRODUCTS. I WASHED EVERYTHING WELL SO I EXAMINED THE PARTS AND TRACED THE ODOR TO THE PLASTIC CUPS.

THE PLASTIC WAS OUTGASSING THIS UNPLEASANT ODOR NO ONE WOULD WANT IN THEIR EGGS. I DECIDED TO LET THE WATER SIMMER A WHILE TO DISSIPATE THE ODOR.I RE-WASHED THE CUPS AND DECIDED TO TRY ONE EGG. IT LEFT EGG RESIDUE IN THE CUP EVEN THOUGH I LUBRICATED IT FIRST.

I HAVEN'T TRIED IT AGAIN. I GUESS THE SMALL COVERED PAN MIGHT BE USEFUL FOR OTHER PURPOSES. I MIGHT TRY IT AGAIN SOON... SEEMED LIKE TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO SHIP BACK A 15 DOLLAR ITEM. IT CAN POACH EGGS...POORLY...BUT IT IS THE LEAST IMPRESSIVE FARBERWARE ITEM I'VE EVER PURCHASED.

2006 UPDATE; STILL A PIECE OF JUNK...GOING INTO THE "GIVE-AWAY" PILE... USED IT TWICE...USELESS! CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS STILL BEING SOLD!

Don't waste your money or time. This poacher doesn't do what the package implies. The egg cups are plastic and besides the odor, the eggs stick no matter what you do. Cleaning is impossible, and I doubt if the plastic is a healthy material to cook eggs in.

Very attractive appearance of product, but the egg cups are a thick plastic and poor conductor of heat, so it cooks poorly.I replaced it with a poacher with metal cups.I consider it useless. It takes way too long to produce a poached egg and even then the egg is not quite right.

I was happy with the egg poacher my parents had that is about 10 years old and it works 10 TIMES better than this dinky piece of junk.Eggs stick to it no matter how hard you wash the plastic cups and you can't get the cups out easily.I would have gotten more use out of my money by buring it and using it to try and poach eggs than to use this product.

Cuisinart MCU-12 MultiClad Unlimited Dishwasher Safe 12-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart MCU-12 MultiClad Unlimited Dishwasher Safe 12-Piece Cookware SetFirst off let me say that this is a beautiful cookware set.For the pans that are included this is a steal.Cooking performance is superb and is equal to All Clads LTD. set.The one place that this cookware loses a star is in the finish.Where the anodized exterior meets the stainless interior is somewhat sloppy. It's not horrible but I expect more from Cuisinart. There are also a few barely perceptible dents here and there.I believe that I found two on the exteriors that no one else can see.I have also found at least two in the interiors. This does not at all take away from the cooking performance and I highly recommend this set.

Update 2009:After using this cookware for two years I have to upgrade my review to five stars! It has performed flawlessly under heavy use.It is as good as it was the day I got it and I love it even more now. This set is the best value out there!

I've always been an avid cook, but never quite appreciated the importance of a great set of cookware. After being diagnosed with an illness that was probably caused in part by years of Teflon use, I decided to get rid of my kitchen-full of T-Fal Teflon cookware and splurge on stainless steel. After much research, I decided on this set of Cuisinart Multiclad. My thought was I wanted something durable, heavy-duty (yet not so physically heavy that it was a pain to pull out pots and pans every time I cooked), and that would not leach harmful chemicals into food and the air while I cooked.

I admit, I was intimidated by stainless steel... I had the idea that food easily became burned on and that it took intense scrubbing after each use. I also had the idea that a good set of quality stainless steel would cost at least $1,000. After finding this set of Cuisinart Multiclad, I decided to take the plunge.

When my order arrived and I began pulling pots out of the box, I was delighted -I wasn't expecting them all to be so darn *beautiful!* They also felt magnificent in my hands... just the perfect feel... substantial, but not uncomfortably heavy. (Confession: For several days after I received them, I would sneak peeks even when I wasn't cooking with them... I would open the cabinet door just to gaze at them. Yes, folks, I consider them a work of art!)

Cooking with my Cuisinart cookware is a whole new experience. Of course, great cookware won't make anyone a better chef, but I find myself inspired to concoct more gourmet creations than I used to. With cookware that makes you feel like a professional chef, heating soup out of a can seems mundane!

Cleaning the cookware has been just as easy as with my old Teflon. I just rinse each pan as soon as I'm finished with it and it cleans up beautifully. I am also especially careful never to let anything burn (in fact I rarely need to go above medium heat unless I'm boiling water). I also use a tip I've read on several reviews: heat the pan first for a minute or two before adding the food. That tip, plus brushing a fine layer of grapeseed oil inside anything I'm sauteeing, has prevented food from sticking to the pan.

I did have some water-spot-looking discoloration appear once after cooking brown rice. Regular washing did not remove these spots, but I let a bit of white vinegar soak in the pot for about 20 minutes, then scrubbed with a Mr. Clean Magic Erase, and ran through the dishwasher again... good as new!

Another thing I love about this particular set is that it's an outstanding collection of very useful pieces. You have all the sizes and types of pot you need. The only thing I've added is the Cuisinart Multiclad Unlimited Dishwasher-Safe 5-1/2-Quart Saute with Helper Handle & Cover. It's a larger version of the saute pan that comes in the set, and I like the larger size for the very large, vegetable-heavy meals I cook for my family. I use the 3 1/2 quart saute from the set just as often, so it's not as though it's a wasted piece. A large family may consider investing in a larger stockpot and perhaps the 12" skillet, but I haven't found that necessary at this point.

One piece in this set that has become a surprise favorite is the steamer (I have two other steamer inserts and didn't think I needed another one). My generic steamers fit down into various pots, leaving only enough room for an inch or two of water at the bottom. The Cuisinart steamer sits atop the 3qt saucepan... not hanging down into it... so that you can actually use that pot for boiling potatoes or whatever, while simultaneously steaming with the same pot... I love how efficient that is.

The bottom line is that this is an absolutely gorgeous, wonderful-to-use set of cookware. I'm hard-pressed to think of anything I don't like about it... it did bug me that little hairline scratches appeared in the bottom finish after cooking, but that's not that big a deal. If tiny scratches in the outer finish would bother you, I would suggest getting this set without the dark exterior finish (the Multiclad set that does not specify it's dishwasher-safe -even though it is). This is definitely a 5-star product that I plan to use and enjoy the rest of my life!

I bought these and was generally happy with them until they started exhibiting significant wear on the bottom and side of the pot. I had it less than 8 months, and it has a 3 year warranty on workmanship, so I started that process.

The Warranty process is absolutely atrocious:

1 They won't tell you over the phone whether the defective pot will quality for the actual warranty or what the specific requirements are.

2 They make you pay for shipping in BOTH directions (ridiculous considering it is likely their defect).

3 They don't give you a notification that they have received the pot. I had to call and I found out they have had it for over 2 weeks, and the technicians still haven't even LOOKED at it.

4 The process takes 6-8 weeks, but they don't tell you that when you set it up.

5 The customer support representatives on the phone are rude and seem to know very little about what's actually happening. And the hold times are terrible.

One of the reasons to buy good cookware is that they are supported by a warranty, Cuisinart needs to stop shying away from the process and step up their warranty efforts. At this point I'll never buy another Cuisinart product again.

I have both. Using this for vacation home. About 30% thinner and lighter than allclad ltd. Conducts heat well, almost but not quite as good as ltds (easier to overcook custard ice cream base with this). Fit of lids on pots looser than I'd like. Very attractive, well made. For the price, 5 stars. Allclad is better though at more than 2x the cost.

I bought this set 2 years ago and I have to say I don't think I could be happier. This set is incredibly durable and has suffered through my daily use and abuse and is still in amazing condition. I am a bit of a foodie and love to cook so I've used these pans for pretty much everything you can imagine and I certainly don't treat them like delicate flowers.

This set was a bit of an impulse purchase for me, I looked at a lot of sets but for no other reason than gut instinct settled on this one and I've never looked back. The cookware has excellent heat distribution and is very easy to clean. Any time I've burned something on or let something sit too long all I have to do is fill the pan with hot water let it soak and I can wipe everything away. The handles do stay cool when being used on the stove stop so no fussing with awkward pot holders.

The only thing that I might consider a drawback is that the part on the inside where the handle is attached can sometimes hold on to a little food so it needs a few extra seconds of attention when cleaning.

Otherwise highly recommended.

BergHOFF Earthchef 12" Montane Frying Pan

BergHOFF Earthchef 12' Montane Frying PanBeing fans of healthy lifestyle, we REALLY wanted to like these pans.We purchased the 10 and 12" versions.Nonstick without dangerous compounds?Sounded too good to be true!Well, after 4 months of everyday use...indeed, too good to be true. :o(

The pans had an amazing nonstick quality for the first two weeks or so.We handled them carefully, following the provided directions to the word. They inexplicably began to lose their nonstick character and, after a month of daily use, we had to scrub a bit to get the food out of the pans. What started as light scrubbing eventually caused the need for heavy scrubbing and now...well, they are basically useless.Very disappointed and I wish we could get our $$$ back.If you plan to use these pans for occasional duty they might be fine, but for daily family duty I'd stay away.

Back to the cast iron!!!

I really like the cooking performance of this skillet, however, the pan is not flat on the bottom. It is raised up in the middle, so for instance, when you pour in a little oil, it all flows to the edge and there is no oil left in the middle.I don't have an induction cooktop, but seems like that would not work if you had one.Clean up is a breeze.I love the handle, it is very comfortable. If not for the uneven bottom I would buy the smaller size as well.I'm going to try out a different model BergHOFF to see if I can find one with a flat bottom.

De'Longhi CGH800 Contact Grill and Panini Press

De'Longhi CGH800 Contact Grill and Panini PressI used to be a restaurant owner and chef, serving great toasted sandwiches from several commercial sandwich presses with flat plates and I really missed them after I left the business. After much consideration and reading reviews, I hesitatingly bought this unit due to mostly 5 star reviews. The Delonghi has a nice feature in the temperature control and overall build quality, however after making one sandwich I realized its serious shortcomings which I suspect is common to all grooved griddles.

I do not understand the consumer fascination or hype for grill marks on sandwiches just so that you can get that Italian "Panini" look. Grill marks may look cute but they are a functional waste for a toasted sandwich. The problem is that the deep impression made in the bread causes an uneven heating of the bread surface and ingredients underneath. I made a classic Rueben with rye, big eye swiss, corned beef, kraut and thousand island dressing. The ridges pushed deeply enough into the bread to cause the cheese to melt through the bread where the untoasted surface was between the grooves. So the grooves were toasting but not the between where the cheese soaked through. ALso consider that rye is more dense than typical sandwich bread and it still did not withstand this process. The sandwich ended up a soggy mess within about 3-4 minutes and would not come out of the press very easily due to the deep grooves where the softer bread "gave up" and simply started falling apart from being soaked. So I returned the unit, unsatisfied with the results.

I then promptly replaced Delonghi with my second choice for which I should have trusted my initial instincts. I got the Breville unit because it is about the only one on the market that has flat griddle plates top and bottom for a truly even toasting over the entire surface of the sandwich. The heat level is perfect and the surface area is larger than the Delonghi and it will actually accommodate 4 sandwiches at one time. The bottom plate features a raised lip around the perimeter to contain ingredients that may run out or for cooking meat. You can leave the sandwich in longer than the Delonghi to allow a more crusty surface if desired or more heat to the interior ingredients without burning anything. It is very forgiving on cook time so it would be hard to ruin anything cooked in it. I have also found it wonderful for cooking hamburger patties. And it does it very quickly. A third to half pound pattie will cook in 3-5 minutes, cooking both sides at one time. Not to mention that my Rueben now comes out perfect. I have also cooked Tyson marinated chicken breasts in it, with great results. And will next try sirloin steak cuts, which I am sure will yield excellent results.

The Breville also has a stair step slider lid support on the side handle to allow you to set variable thicknesses for ingredients to avoid smashing your panini or toasted sandwiches to cardboard thin slices of bread. Also allows for great pizza reheating to crisp the crust on the bottom plate and setting the lid to the open "radiant heat" melt position, hovering to warm the topside ingredients while the crust does its thing. All in all, a much superior choice unless you like "tire rut" sandwiches. I am very impressed with this unit which performs as well as the $600 commercial units we used in my restaurant.

This is my first Panini Grill and I wish I had bought it sooner. I looked through many of the Panini Grills that Amazon has to offer and, in my opinion, this was the best. I have now had it for about 2 months, and am probably using it 3-4 times a week.

WHY I LIKE IT:

Using French loafs or Hoagie bread, my sandwiches take about three minutes to make. I turn on the grill while I am preparing the sandwich, and there is an indicator (near the middle of the handle) that lights up when the press has reached your desired temperature (which is controlled by a dial near the handle). Cheese very frequently oozes out, but that's a never a problem with the nonstick surface. A quick wipe afterwards with a damp towel and it is clean.

The ridges on the press are just the right size. Deep enough to make those beautiful grill marks, but not too deep to make cleaning a hassle. The distance between them was just about right too.

The whole press feels very sturdy. I have had no problems with the handle as some other people have. The top part is heavy enough and presses the sandwich firmly. A lot of the other grills (like the famed Foreman) are too light and I worry about their ability to firmly press my food. I haven't used them though so I may be wrong.

It has a "drain" on one corner and comes with a separate cup for catching runoff. I assume this is for grilling meats and catching the oil runoff, but I have not used it for meats. I don't think it is a good idea to use the same surface for raw meat and sandwiches. If you also use it for meat/chicken, make sure you wash it afterwards rather than just wipe it.

It looks great and matches the rest of my stainless steal equipment.

WHAT I WISH IT HAD:

An on-off switch would be so convenient. You have to use the plug. This is the only reason I cannot say this is a perfect machine. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, but four will do.

Had the Krups model FDE312-75 for about 3 years before it decided not to turn on one day -so to replace it, thought I'd try something different.Went with the DeLonghi this time, about $20 cheaper.I loved my Krups, and initially thought I'd like the DeLonghi a bit better. Here's my experience:

*Krups always "sparked" at the outlet when I unplugged it. Not so with the DeLonghi.

*DeLonghi has adjustable heat, so, although I only used the Krups for Panini, I'm kind of excited about the options I now have with the DeLonghi.Might try a burger or chicken! It also has a channel where the grease can run off -and a little cup to catch the grease. If you'd ever use the Krups for anything other than a sandwich -the grease would have no where to go.

*DeLonghi has wider channels on the grill plate -which make it a lot easier to clean up. But the panini does NOT get as crispy as it does with the Krups...for specifically that reason.

*The Krups latch, meant to hold the top & bottom together so you can store it on its side, was flimsy and broke after a week.It latched when I didn't want it to -and wouldn't when I did.(A minor thing, but it got to be annoying.) There seems to be no threat of that happening with the big latch on the DeLonghi.

*The DeLonghi is kind of "chunky" -it takes up more space when stored on its side than the Krups. The Krups also has a slightly bigger grill surface.

There's my 2 cents.Happy sandwich-making!

I'm glad I had previously read a customer review explaining it has no on/off switch.Because an insurance adjuster had explained to me a long time ago that repeatedly pulling an electrical cord out of an outlet while the appliance is on ultimately causes house fires to start at that outlet, I went to Radio Shack and purchased a plug-in, dual on/off switch with outlets (about $7.00).The Radio Shack device's on/off switch lights up when the appliance is on, so you know whether you've turned it off.Otherwise, I love the appliance; my husband uses it frequently to make hot sandwiches, and it's easy to clean with a damp paper towel.Melted cheese turns crisp and comes right off the grill with no problems. It's a great product with multiple heat settings, a "ready" light to let you know when it's reached the desired heat, and my only complaint is that the engineer needs to be shot for not putting an on/off switch on the device.

I have had my panini maker for a year now, and have used it sparsely, up until now.Since I've been using it more, I now wish it had closer 'ribs', as I think this would cook the sandwiches more evenly and quicker (as in the Krups).

The directions that came with it were not very clear, and the positions of the lid was 'reversed'; I had quite a time getting that clear from the manufacturer. And it was supposed to come with a 'comprehensive' cookbook; the one that I eventually had to send away for was just a small one, not what Ihad expected.Being a first-time user, I needed all the tips and recipes I could get!

A plus is that it does have variable heat settings.

I wish it had an on-off switch! You have to pull out the cord to cut it off!For something this expensive, I expect better quality!

Also, the locking mechanism that keeps the two parts together keeps locking together when you don't want it to very annoying!

Johnson-Rose French Style Steel Fry Pan, 15 Inch x 2-1/4 Inch

Johnson-Rose French Style Steel Fry Pan, 15 Inch x 2-1/4 InchThis arrived yesterday and I would send it back today if I hadn't thrown away the box.I used it last night to fry some scallops for company.I found that if the heat was enough to brown the scallops in the oil, then the fluid that seeped from the scallops burned and if I turned the heat down to avoid that, then the scallops wouldn't brown!!This morning I have burned on residual that won't come off despite lots of scrubing.Again, I'm learning that "you get what you paid for" i.e, $30 for a huge skillet results in junk!!

This pan is excellent! The size was perfect for fitting on a gas burner, so we could fry fish outside (no odors.)It has a nice "heft" and fries beautifully. This is highly recommended!!!

Scanpan Classic 12-1/2-Inch Glass Cover

Scanpan Classic 12-1/2-Inch Glass CoverDon't buy your scanpan without purchasing this awesome glass lid for it. I just love it, just sorry I waited so long after buying the pan to get this.

I broke my original lid so i was very happy to find that i could replace this item.I love this pot and I use it often, it is GREAT for sautéing vegetable and then combining all ingredients and cooking in the oven with the lid on!When cooking on top of the stove, the handles to the pot do not get hot so it is ok to pick up and move around. You can not do this if you place the pot in the oven, then mitts are required.

My only regret, they don't make things the way they use to, the original cover was very thick glass, very sturdy and durable product. It is nice to go more light weight, I just miss the one that I had initially, again, they don't make things they way they use to............

All-Clad Stainless 7-1/2-Inch French SkilletHaving owned a restaurant and now retired, All Clad are the pans we use and trust to provide even heat. Now having added an INDUCTION cook top this SS magnetic pan works great so we save on electric use, don't have a hot stove top after cooking so don't overheat the kitchen. Highly recommended.

I had to alter my cooking procedures slightly from what I did with my old non-stick surface. Using spray olive oil and heating the pan slowly before adding food but once you figure it out the pans work great and omelets and eggs come out perfect with virtually no clean-up. The pans heat evenly and look great on the rack.

Presto 07300 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet 12 inch

Presto 07300 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet 12 inchI cannot believe some people think this skillet is awful!I love my skillet and have been using it since Christmas.I can cook virtually anything on it, even pancakes, and cleanup is an absolute breeze! If there is anything stuck to it all you have to do is put in some water, heat to 200 degrees and it all comes off so easily.I do not think the metal is cheap; in fact, it is more non-stick than any non-stick pan I've ever used.Barkeepers Friend is useful in keeping it looking brand-new.I have found the heating to be perfectly even, much better than cooking on the stove. My only gripe is that it does not fit into my small dishwasher, but that is not the pan's fault.Truly, I love this skillet and use it all the time.

UPDATE: 06/18/2010

After two years there are some little issues. . . the skillet does warp, so liquid puddles in the middle, and the bottom screw comes loose every time I use it, making it even more wobbly.I still love to cook on it as it is easy clean and handy, but unfortunately as of last night it just stopped working. The light was on, but in the middle of making dinner, the heat went off.Turning it off and on and unplugging it did not work, either.I am contacting the manufacturer to see about a replacement.

This product is made from very thin, cheap steel.I haven't seen quality this poor in many years. The manufacturer claims that the glass lid is tempered. This lid is the thinnest glass I have ever seen on a cooking utensil.Even the directions that come with the pan explain how easy it is to break the glass lid.On my first attempt to cook egg whites in the pan I turned the dial to 300 degrees. The canola oil in the pan immediately started smoking. This shouldn't happen, as the smoke point of canola oil is 400 degrees. At a loss for what temperature to use, I turned the temp down to 250 in hopes that I wouldn't end up with runny eggs.By the time the top of the white cooked, the bottom was burning.I highly recommend that you save your money and buy something else.

Presto 07300 Stainless Steel Electric Skillet 12 inch

Presto Model 07300 has poor heat distribution. The area above the heating element heats up within seconds, leaving the rest of the pan cool, especially in the center. After less than satisfactory fried eggs and pancakes, my husband filled the pan with 1/2 inch water to see what goes on. Even at a low setting of "warm", water boiled at one spot above the heating element. At 250, the water boiled nicely near the heating element, but nowhere else in the pan, even after ten minutes covered with the lid. Nine months later, after making do with the bad temperature distribution as best as I can, the plastic support structure broke near the center. That is the end of this skillet. I hope that others have better luck with it.

Soft and porous stainless steel everything sticks (I only use Stainless Steel Cookware so I know how to prep it for cooking ). Power cord too short can't position skillet properly because of extra long handle and heat control next to handle. No vent hole in lid moisture drips onto heat control. Must crack the lid open slightly to prevent dripping. The positive is that the heat control maintains the set temperature and the tall legs keep the heat off of the counter top. Surely this can't be American design and engineering. What happen Presto????

No Teflon or Silverstone residue in my food! Cleaning it is easier than my old coated skillets and I don't have to replace it every few months when the finish wears off. I don't understand the purpose of the long handle, though.

I needed to find a replacement for my old Presto griddle. I know I didn't want to buy another Presto, but it seemed like that was all I could find in the stores. I was about to suck it up and purchase it, then I came across this 3-in-1 awesomeness.

I have used both the grill and the griddle, and I am very happy. I agree, it is a little smaller than the other griddles, but that is no problem for me. What I am very happy about is that the heating element underneath doesn't just go around the outside. The Presto did that, and my food (pancakes or bacon) was cooked unevenly. Both the left and right sides have their own heating element, and the shape of it allows for more even cooking. And for easy cleaning the griddle/grill plates can be washed in the dishwasher, although I have not done that yet.

I am definitely very pleased with my purchase and recommend this.
