All-Clad Stainless 14-Inch Fry Pan

All-Clad Stainless 14-Inch Fry PanI was very hesitant to spend close to $160 on a single fry pan, but I had heard so many good things about All-Clad and thought it would be a wise investment.For the first 6 months, the pan was great.I loved the large size and used it often.I was just about ready to invest in an entire set of All-Clad cookware when my pan warped.I was using it on an electric stove as usual, and the pan just simply warped.I was thoroughly disappointed that a $160 pan would warp during normal use.I won't be spending this kind of money again.

****Follow-up.I contacted All-Clad regarding the warped pan-they had me send it in for evaluation, and yesterday a brand new one showed up at my door.I'm impressed at their customer service and the fact that they stand behind their product.

I got this pan a month ago, mainly to round out my collection (wow, it looks great hanging on my rack!)To be honest, I was a bit worried about how much use I'd actually get out of it.

How wrong I was!It's absolutely spectacular for recipies that require large amounts of sauted vegatables.I love being able to saute several large onions, peppers, etc. at the same time.

Where it really shines is searing meat in prepartion for roasting.I love to roast, particularly pork and lamb.Only a pan like this lets you sear an entire pork tenderloin without any acrobatics.

It's definitely not for everyone, but I really enjoy using it.

Yes, it's a REALLY big pan!A perfect cookware addition for the serious cook.Surprisingly, the pan isn't as heavy as I expected and is a manageable size.It will easily saute 6 to 8 chicken breasts at once without crowding and is perfect for large batches.It heats evenly and lives up to the All-Clad quality I expected.Easy cleanup, too!Highly recommended.

Lodge Color ECSGP43 Enameled Cast Iron Square Grill Pan, Island Spice Red, 10-inch

Lodge Color ECSGP43 Enameled Cast Iron Square Grill Pan, Island Spice Red, 10-inchI purchased the 10" Lodge Logic Grill Pan and the 10" Staub Grill Pan at the same time.The Staub pan is approximately three times the cost of the lodge logic pan.I find the Staub pan to be suburb in both look and feel, but both pans are entirely functional.Surprisingly, I found the lodge pan to have a smoother coating of outer enamel I was less worried about scratching my glass top stove when using it.The lodge pan is about 1/2" shorter than the Staub pan which may result in additional splatter.The cooking surfaces of both pans are the same size, however the surface of the lodge pan feels more porous than that of the Staub pan.

I found cleaning to be very simple for both pans.If you are having difficulty I suggest soaking the griddle surface in hot water and detergent for an hour.This gives a chance for the detergent to break down and release fats.If you want to prevent burning try cooking with temperatures no more than medium high this is stated in the included manual.Be sure to give your pan a good coat of olive oil when cooking I use the pressurized spray olive oil as it is far easier to get an even coat.

Lodge Logic Grill Pan Review Summary:

Pros (Compared to Staub):Low Cost, Smoothness of Outer Enamel

Cons (Compared to Staub):Height (Approx 1/2" Shorter than Staub Grill Pan), Quality of Cooking Surface Enamel, No Pour Spout, General Appearance

Overall Stars Staub 10" Grill Pan:5/5

Overall Stars Lodge Logic:4/5

If both pans had been the same height I would have given both a rating of 5.The rest of the cons are outweighed by the difference in cost between the pans.At it's price point, the lodge pan is still a very good deal.If you have a modest budget by all means purchase the lodge pan.It works.If you are concerned about splatter and visual appeal and have the budget buy the Staub.

I have used both griddles twice now and am posting pictures and as you will see both appear brand new though they have been used.

I have been attempting to switch to cast iron cookware for health reasons, and so when I pulled out a recipe for grilled romaine salad I decided to search for an enameled cast iron pan instead of going with cook's illustrated recommended nonstick version.This pan is an amazing deal, compared to the Le Creuset version at $83, and although I have only used it so far for the one recipe I look forward to using it over and over again.I bought an Oxo Good Grips stiff brush for $5.50 to use to clean it, and it cleaned up just as easily as any of my nonstick pans.I recommend it wholeheartedly.Happy grilling!Oxo Good Grips Kitchen Brush

I purchased this pan, along with the matching Lodge Color Enamel Cast Iron 8.5 inch Square Panini Press, Caribbean Blue (in island spice red), about a year ago.No complaints, it works as advertised with consistent results.I use it at least three or four times a week, mainly making paninis but also to grill meats when I don't feel like going outside in the weather and even for home made quesadillas.

I own lots of cast iron cook wear, all from Lodge, though this is my first enameled piece.Even with that I still had a bit of a learning curve which resulted in a couple phenomenal burnt cheese messes (the press is HEAVY and will squeeze out excess cheese/sauce/liquids, etc...), but everything cleaned up quickly and easily with minimal fuss.I've learned to use a bit less cheese and to concentrate it in the middle to help keep it in the food and off the grill, problem solved.

Quality of the finish isn't quite on par with the pricier brands, but works just as well and still looks great, especially considering the price difference.

Since most of the negative reviews cite issues that are more user-error than a problem with the product, here are a couple pointers for those inexperienced with using cast iron,

Use medium to medium-high heat and let the pan preheat for at least 5-10 minutes before use.Cast iron retains heat very well, but also takes much longer to heat up than the thin, chintzy pans inhabiting so many kitchens.You can preheat the press as well by placing it in the pan with ridges interlocked, but be sure to give it more time.Be patient, the results are worth it!

Use a good quality cooking spray, or a refillable liquid sprayer (I have this one:Misto Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer, Brushed Aluminum, to get a nice even coating of olive oil on the cooking surface to help produce great sear marks and prevent sticking.

For cleanup use the same method you used to cook; add 1/4" to 1/2" of water in the pan and heat on medium-high to just before boiling.Once the water is hot keep the heat coming and scrub the pan with a stiff bristled nylon brush (I get mine at the local dollar store) till everything comes up.Works great on conventional cast iron pans as well.No need to apply a light coat of oil before storing, though, due to the enamel.

Cooking with cast iron, even when enameled, takes a little more effort than non-stick, but for me the results are well worth it.Enjoy!

I wanted this for so long and finally decided to buy it. Speedy shipping and it looked great! I got it on Nov 2, 2010 and used it the same night. I cooked chicken using silicone tipped tongs and then hand-washed it with hot water, plain Dawn and a non-scratch scrubber. My sink is cast iron also but I have protective mats on the sink bottom. All of that and it still chipped! I thought maybe I missed washing some spots but after looking closer, I saw that there were small chips on the inside of the grill and small chips on the bottom of the handle. I am so disappointed in this item. Have to see about a return. I have not even had it for 2 weeks yet. I have other enameled cast iron by this brand and they are awesome though.

Aluminum Heritage Lefse Grill

Aluminum Heritage Lefse GrillIf you make lefse, this is the grill to use.I should actually just stop my review right here, because there's really nothing more to say.I will mention that there is now a teflon grill out, but the old fashioned Norwegian in me can't imagine how you would get perfect brown spotting on your lefse with teflon.If you have made your dough properly, sticking is not usually a problem.Its loaded with butter!!The controls are easy to use, and out of the way.Customer service with this company is great.My lefse grill is holding up after 20 years, but my mom did need some work done on hers and they are communicative and helpful.Fixed it right up!Don't be afraid, this is not rocket science.Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it.Order one today!

I bought this grill to make lefse but so far I have only used it for tortillas and pancakes. It works wonderfully and cooks 4 -5 pancakes or tortillas at a time. I can cook them in less than half the time it took using a skillet on the stove. It has been easy to clean too. Now I all I need to do is find the time to make lefse!

I was hesitant to buy the aluminum version.After having used it several times:Foods do not stick like I thought they might; it is very easy to clean; the aluminum is thick and very well made; the entire unit heats evenly.That PLUS it is made in the USA and I like the idea of supporting American businesses that operate solely in the USA. This is a fantastic unit and beats the other more cheaply made foreign versions to the ground.This will become an heirloom.

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction Cooktop

NuWave PIC - Precision Induction CooktopI purchased mine from the Nuwave website.It was the BoGo offer with the cookware.As written in many other places the S&H for the cookware and second cook top negate any "get one free" benefit.That should be a considration of "how/where" you purchase.

I immediately unpacked my 2 PIC to test boiling water.First thing I found out was my Calphalon cookwarefrom Target is annodized aluminum...not magnetic and not induction compatible.That should be a considration about buying the PIC if you want to use current metal cookware...BE SURE IT'S Magnetic.

Ok, now for the review of actual functionality.I used both the "free" stainless steel cookpot and a castiron fry pan.Both PIC's that I received only had a functioning induction coil in the very center of the cooktop.If you see a picture without the pot or pan on the PIC it's the size of the center red circle that is intersected by the NuWave logo.This will affect the eveness of heat distribution and cooking...especially frying.

The button for "Med" indicates a temperature of 275.I just wanted to boil water for my first use(that's 212 degrees farenheight, actually slightly less here in Colorado Springs).After 5 minutes there were bubbles forming on the bottom of the pan in a 3-4 inch circle in the center.This is the location of the inner induction coil.According to the NuWave response on their facebook page the induction coils are supposed to be out to the OUTER red cirlce on the PIC cooktop so this indicated to me that the coils were not working properly.

To get the water to actually boil, and this is on the included DvD also, you need to select the SEAR/HIGH button and adjust down once you get to a boil.

I don't see this product being nearly as "precise" as the NuWave website indicates.There is definitely as much lag in heating pots as with a standard electric range.It may truly be more efficient overall because the heat is generated within the cooking pot by exciting the atoms and not transferred from the heating element to the pot...but speedwise I definitly saw zero improvment over conventional electric or gas.I have a GE Profile gas range and the small burner did a better/faster job boiling water, again probaly not as efficient since the flames must heat the pot.

Safety-wise there are indeed no open flames or electric burners but the glass cooktop does absorb heat from the cookware so there is a chance to burn yourself after extended cooking times with the PIC.

I think this may work fine as a hotplate for parties or for serving fondues...but for active cooking I feel it's quite a let down from what is shown on their site or in the informercials.

*** Updating to a 3 star rating after testing the green pans that came with the product.The heat convection in the "Perfect Green" 9" Duralon pan is very good and the non-stick surface is excellent(not sure about durability as this is day two with the product).I'm not sure why the sauce/steamer/fondue pan seems to work poorly but the Perfect Green fry pans work very well.I can't push this beyond 3 stars as it still seems as slow when using anything other than the fry pans.I bought this with the idea of having solid, precise control for frying chicken I will be trying that this weekend and hopefully reporting back here afterward.

### For those of you who wondered about chicken frying, it seems to hold temperature(once you get there !!!) much better than a standard electric skillet, and since it seems to cycle off when it reaches temp...unlike standard cooktops that keep adding heat unless you adjust them...it was a better final product. I was able to fry 12 chicken thighs in 3 batches of 4 without stopping or messing with the controls.

Still only a 3 because it definitly doesn't live up to the infomercials.

MARCH 10, 2013.

Our review from December published below originally gave this PIC a five star review. I have changed to only ONE star now. SO, if you happen to read any comments by other folks which might not make sence, that is why...

I also have added at the bottom of this review an email from The Induction Cooking website expert, addressing small induction burner elements and the cooking powers of these smaller Induction cooktops.

The Induction cooking method is a good choice.

THIS product has a defect which makes it cook at much higher temperature than the temperature you set.

I used a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of water and soup. THe temperature/thermostat was defective.

When the unit was set and 160, the thermometer measured 200 and a rolling boil occurred.

I returned the unit, exchanging it for another PIC.

THe same defect occurred.

I will be returning the second one now, and get my money back.

I hope that this update will serve to protect others from putting their money into a product which does not function properly.

ALSo, for reader's information. THe induction burner within this unit only measures 5 1/2 inches, so can't be used with larger pots.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My question to Eric:
I've been looking at the listings on your site.What I am looking for is the
> ACTUAL size of the burner element in each of the countertop cooktops.
>
> I thought that the individual companies would have this information readily
> available, yet cannot seem to find it on amazon and your site. Do I need to
> call or write the individual companies to get this information.
Eric's answer to my question:
You could, but the answer will be pretty much the same (if you can get an
answer at al)--around the 5" to 6" that you have discovered by yourself.The
only exceptions would be in some units expressly designed for commercial use
(and priced accordingly).
One must remember that countertop units were not and are not intended as the
main station for cooking--they are improvements on the old "hot plate", which
is for lightweight supplementary cooking, from heating up a small pot of some
canned goods in a college dorm to at-the-table cooking of those few dishes
that need to go from pan to plate in a blink.They were never meant for 12"
skillets or huge, many-quart pots of soup or the like.
If one has to cook on them with anything much larger than 6" to 8" in
diameter, the material of the cookware and the natire of what's being cooked
come into play.Cast iron is a poor heat conductor, and so is quite slow to
carry heat from the center to its periphery; on the other hand, given enough
pre-heat, it will eventually get at least moderattely hot at the perimeter and
will tend to hold that heta."Clad" stainless steel, on the other hand, is
designed to conduct heat well, and so will heat up more quickly; but it will
also cool down more quickly.Neither material on a small, countertop unit
will be really satisfactory in heating the outer annular area of any pot or
skillet, but whether that is critical depends on what one is cooking: if one
is making pancakes, or cooking anything that needs even heat throughout, it
will never be a real success; on the other hand, something like heating a
liquid will work tolerably well because the liquid itself will very rapidly
even out the temperatures.
There is always, though, the power limitation: 13,000 BTU/hour, which is the
equivalent of what a 1.8-kW tabletop can deliver, is a lof heat energy, and
will do well for most household tasks.But even that cannot boil several
quart of water in a flash.In a build-in unit, a 1.8-kW element would be one
of the small ones.
I purchased through the TV Add BOGO.I couldn't wait to get my new induction cooktops because I want to replace my regular smooth cooktop with induction.Felt this would be an excellent way to try it out.Since I have ALL CLAD stainless steel cookware, I knew my cookware would not be a problem.
When the units showed up, I opened the first unit, filled up one of my All Clad pots with about 3 inches of water and put it to the test!Unfortunately, only the very center of my pan tried to boil.I NEVER got a full boil going with the unit.It didn't even get the center of the pot of water boiling.Since that didn't work, I pulled out a smaller pot and tried again.Same result.To top off the poor performance, the fan is incredibily loud.
I emailed with customer service (Hearthware.Com) and their answer was "sorry".I was told if I wanted to send it back, I had to pay the shipping and handling.Now, that means I have to pay shipping and handling both ways for a poor product.So, I figured it was just the one unit so I opened up the 2nd unit and tried the same thing.This unit was worse than the first one since after 10 minutes I couldn't get anything to boil.Temperature of the "boiling" water never got over 140 degrees. Fan was just as loud on this unit as the first unit.
So, back to customer service (email) I went.Again, no assistance in saying "let's replace that for you".Same answer send them back at MY cost.
Needless to say, I will never purchase a product through HEARTHWARE again.I will NEVER purchase a NU WAVE product again.It cost me over $75 for shipping and handling for a product that did not work and I don't have.MAJOR disappointment.
I located a number for Hearthware, Inc in Libertyville, IL at 800-229-2123 and the agent was very helpful.She said that the people I had been talking to are offsite and not employees of Hearthware, Inc and are in a callcenter.She cancelled the order for me and sent me a confirmation email.I asked to speak with a member of management with the company and am waiting for a callback.
I can't speak for the effectiveness of the product but the runaround has turned me off on this product and company.
When I was a kid in the '60s, I used to visit my maternal grandparents in southeastern Kentucky with whom my mother's younger brothers still lived. Hot, freshly baked cornbread was a staple day in and day out and the most coveted pieces were the corners. With this Lodge pan, every cornstick essentially is a "corner" piece as each stick has a high "crust ratio." People complain that the sticks end up sticking to the pan but if you use it correctly, that's not a problem. Be sure to heat the pan in the oven, pull the pan out with mitts or potholders, use a small basting brush to oil each well with a bit of corn oil or bacon drippings, fill the wells with batter about three-quarters full to the top and bake according to your recipe, usually about 12 to 14 minutes. Use the tried-and-true test for doneness, using a clean wooden toothpick. The cornsticks should be easy to remove with tongs.
3 Piece 10'' Ceramic Skillet with Cover & Handle Pot Holder
3 Piece 10'' Ceramic Skillet with Cover & Handle Pot HolderMy main purpose of purchasing this skillet was for the sake of health (Ceramic contains no leaking materials).
This fulfills that purpose, and it maintains heat very well to boot.
It may be a tad bit more expensive than what I can buy though.
Oh, and this skillet sticks easy, make sure to keep the heat low or you'll have a small burn on the bottom (THERE'S NO WAY IT IS NON-STICK)... If you're looking for a non-stick solution, keep looking.
I believe it does protect you from having metals leak into your food but doesn't do any good because pots are VERY fragile.they crack very easily and mercola does not take them back.i've had 3 crack in less than six months.Super disapointed.
I have 4 pieces of the xtrema cookware minus this 10" skillet which I am about to purchase. I have to say that I absolutely love love love this cookware.It does takes a tad bit longer to heat up, but once it does it really holds the heat well unlike any other pan I've used.It is more fragile then a regular pan if you drop it, but that has never been an issue for me. I'm just a bit more careful when handling.
It is totally worth it for me even with it being more fragile and taking longer to heat up.It's really not that much longer, and I am a busy person on a tight schedule.And of course I love that there are no nasty chemicals leaching into my food.
The other great thing is the cleaning.You can't scratch it.So you can use metal scrubbers, the rough side of the sponge and whatnot to clean it and it doesn't scratch.
You do need some oil/butter so certain foods (eggs) don't stick.But again, so worth it.And oil/fats are very good for you anyway...unlike the whole low-fat craze would have you to believe.
So all and all for me the Xtrema cookware is fantastic and well worth it.Even with things that people may see as negatives...i love the cookware so much that it really doesn't matter to me and you get used to it.
I'll let you know when I get the 10".
First off I agree with Mercola's return policies, you are better off purchasing from amazon etc. he's just very picky with what he takes back and is often marked up$, I did get a replacement pot because the lid was off/poor fitting as ceramic has natural imperfections and I had to send photos and it was a hassle-they didn't just 'believe me,' etc. But they did send me a whole new pot, not just the lid which was cool. Just an FYI, good or bad for his sake.
I got his set of these pans/pots with the tea kettle and cups/silicon lids a couple of years ago mainly for the heavy metal concerns in food as they all leach except maybe Saladmaster which is about 5 grand, and for the fact these pots act like convection ovens once they reach temperature in the oven, cooking more evenly (I can't speak for gas ovens but I've had fine luck on my electric stove?) and food is more flavorful. I use mine for everything I can and what you would normally (rice is fantastic) and I don't think they stick that bad if at all mostly (if you don't let stuff cook too long and don't watch it?) but I'm not obsessive about working a little harder to clean pots after cooking as I have some tricks with them I've found.
I cook with butter or coconut oil (the two best things:)and for the most part you can get away with over medium eggs without them breaking if you are meticulous but..who cares? most other things won't be like teflon obviously but I did this for health and going more to the old ways of cooking, but I'd rather live without heavy metals causing health concerns (i.e. even heart disease links) rather than food sticking? Take your pick. After I cook meals and dump the food out, I right away put water in the warm pot or pan to cover the bottom, and let it cool down while cooking all the remainder sticking food off.That small step cooks the food right off, then I just put in the sink and scrub off easily as normal, in fact I just use a kitchen scraper normally and have no problems with having to use muscle to get stuff off, hardly ever.
I love mine and think they cook great and the food has more taste. I agree you have to be very careful with banging around like you would using any pottery?(I have a ceramic sink so I have to be extra careful as I did get a chip in a pan and it unfortunately did cause a crack that spread). If you want to be healthy, they weren't a bad buy as they can be heated up to I think extremes without problems which is a plus. I just cook pancakes, when I eat them, rarely in my teflon as a treat, but for nothing else. Hope that helps. If you don't want metal cookware, I think this is a good choice and overall mine have held up very well.
I wanted to get away from non-stick surfaces seeing has how they fumigate your foods with noxious chemicals. After reading the reviews both pro & con on this product I decided to give it a try and I'm VERY satisfied! If you put in a tea spoon of virgin coconut oil to cook with, this pan cooks just as good as any non-stick surface I've used, and cleans up just as fast. I highly recommend this product!
Tools of the Trade Belgique 10" Hard Anodized Fry Pan
Tools of the Trade Belgique 10' Hard Anodized Fry PanPan worked very well (received as wedding present) and performed flawlessly for well over a year.Recently discovered that the handle on this pan started getting hot when in use.As I type with blisters beginning to form on the palm of my left hand, I am planning on taking this pan out to the trash as soon as it cools enough to not melt my trash can.I have cooked eggs, potstickers, sausage, bacon, vegetables, onions, shallots, stir-fry, lamb, and chicken in this pan and the handle stayed comfortably cool each and every time until recently.It has never been abused, always carefully handwashed promptly after each use.You expect a hot handle with, say, a cast-iron skillet.This is a safety hazard.
These frying pans look great but watch out be sure to use a pot holder when using them!The handles become extremely hot and can not be touched when the pan is in use.I would not recommend these pans to even an expert chef.
I'm seeing three terrible reviews in a row, but it's like they're talking about a different pan.Maybe they are?The handle on this one is silicone and I've always found it comfortable to the touch, even when hot.I actually came here looking to buy more pans in this line, because I've been using this 10" one for about two years for everything and it's the best frying pan I've ever had.Nonstick surface that holds up, good heat distribution, and oh yeah: comfortable handle.
I have had the same experience as the previous two reviewers. Handle became so HOT I nearly dropped it! I am taking mine back to the store where I bought it about a year ago. Even if they won't give me refund, I will demand they make a report to store buyer and manufacturer.
I haven't used a non-stick pan in 30 years, preferring my cast iron spider.These pans may just make me reconsider, truly non-stick and the coating seems pretty robust doesn't scratch like the old junk.
Casabella Silicone Short Pot Handle Cover, Set Of Two
Casabella Silicone Short Pot Handle Cover, Set Of TwoI purchased these to use with my Lodge cast iron skillets/pots, and my Emeril Pro-Clad pots they were too big to use for any of them. :(The interior dimensions were at least 2" x 3" (I didn't have a ruler handy to measure...) and seemed larger than would be useful for any pots I've owned or used.These seem like a really great idea, and well made, but were just too large for my pots.
the picture is misleading... these covers are way bigger then what they look, so they do not fit any 'normal' pot handles.
These are large enough to fit over almost any side handles. They do not stay on permanently but they wouldn't work as well if they were tight regardless.
No chance of burning dish towel or pot holder when getting something out of the oven.I would recommend them.
