I purchased this to use on an induction cooktop because it's description says stainless steel and many reviewers of induction cooktops state that stainless steel works on them. My induction cooktop did not recognize this pan and a magnet would not stick to the bottom. I googled stainless steel and found that only the 400 series (steel with only chromium added)is ferro-magnetic and would thus work on induction cooktops. If too much nickel is added to the stainless steel (300 series) then it will no longer attract a magnet and will not work on induction cooktops. Unfortunately none of the cookware manufacturers seem to state what type of stainless steel they use.If you need a pot or pan for an induction cooktop then shop locally testing the bottom of each with a magnet or mail-order only if it specifically states that it works with induction cooktops.
