Spirit 8" Thermolon Fry Pan

Spirit 8' Thermolon Fry PanFirst, I love to cook and cook a lot.My go to pans are All-Clad and Le Creuset. My small All-Clad skillet is not a non-stick so I got this one to try out.I need to replace my 12" non-stick All-Clad which I've had for years. This pan works so well that I'm going to purchase the 12" as well.I saw this pan being used on a cooking show and was amazed at how the food appeared to slide right out of the pan with no sticking. And it does! The first thing I did was make a couple of cheese omelettes they slide right out of the pan.Even the 2nd one without any cleaning or prep.Of course, a surface this slick makes clean-up a breeze! You can put it in the dishwasher, but I was in my test mode so I washed it by hand.

I'm surprised at the other review that says it's non-stick.It's baffling to me what could have happened since my pan is so clearly non-stick.The surface is really smooth and appears pretty hard. It's also the safer non-stick coating that can be heated up to 850 degrees.Don't think I'll be doing that, but I can put it in the oven to finish off dishes where I couldn't do that with my other non-stick skillet.

I am truly amazed.

We do a lot of cooking and have always been wary of the aging Silverstone pans and replaced frequently. These pans are amazing and very hearty! We love them and will now be using these as our new favorite Wedding present. Get two.

I've had this pan for over a year and a half and it looks like new. It is perfect for frying things that would normally stick in stainless steel. I use it on an induction cooktop and it heats fast and the handle stays cool. I just read the information on it and didn't realize how tough it really was. I've been using it about the same as I would a standard non stick, but one of those types of pans would have been toast by now. I think I will be buying another, bigger one to use, too!

The product description above claims:

" Features: -Patented Thermolon ceramic technology is durable to withstand oven temperatures up to 850 degrees..."

However, the instructions for my pan indicate that it should not go beyond 500 degrees f, and they don't recommend bringing the heat on a cooker above medium, but the medium temps vary from unit to unit. Also, that a thin amount of oil should still be used each time to retain the nonstick properties of that surface, followed with gentle cleaning to prevent that gunky buildup of sticky oil that will ruin all nonstick over time.I use a small bit of paper towel to rub safflower oil on only the areas of the pan I will use to cook something like pancakes, and I always hand wash nonstick regardless as if it says it is "dishwasher safe."The pan works so well I really don't have to use an extra thin layer of oil, but I've learned to be an instruction follower as I've ruined a few nonstick pans when I didn't.

This 8" pan is great, although I wish it were made in America, and that is the only drawback. It heats up well, and seems to not need that much heat.I have yet to try the larger 12" pan though, so that one might take longer to heat up.The quality of the aluminium core is also important as some cheaper aluminium pans contain other metals, which prevent them from heating evenly or well.My Target "Green Pan" with Thermalon is one that takes a while to heat up, doesn't heat evenly, and I'm not sure why unless it is made with impure aluminium. It isn't just the coating, but the way the pan is made that makes it work well.
