Lodge Logic 3-Quart Covered Chicken Fryer

Lodge Logic L8CF3 Covered Chicken Fryer, Black, 3-QuartI own three pieces of cast iron cookware, and this item is one of them... and among my favorite cooking implements, period. For dishes requiring steady, even heat and for cooks who require durable cookware with easy clean-up, cast iron CANNOT be beat!

This fryer is going to last forever. Its care is easy: I scrub it with hot water only, and dry it with an old rag and apply a thin layer of vegetable oil while the iron is still hot... a year and a half later, it's still rust-free and delivering the reliable service I have come to expect and admire. No scratches interfere with its performance, as is the case with my allegedly-long-lasting Wearever nonstick cookware set (what a waste of money THAT was!). In fact, in this particular chicken fryer, I've produced everything from french fries to spaghetti sauce to eggs and bacon to french toast! It's a dependable griddle, skillet, grill, and pot, and it goes right from the stovetop and into the oven for maximum versatility.

The best thing about the chicken fryer is its somewhat smaller circumference than the skillet or the Dutch oven.It takes up a bit less stovetop space and provides greater depth, making it ideal for small batches of soups, stews, or deep-fried goodies.

I am an avid home-chef, and I can say without exception that my cast-iron cookware is the best kitchen investment I've ever made.

I bought this one because I was looking for something to fry various things in without the pot warping (as stainless steel pots do). Since I got this pot, I have been using it to cook all sorts of dishes--soup, stew, reheating rice etc. It's big enough to hold enough fried rice, for example, for 4, and I can pop theentire pot, lid and all, into the oven to keep warm. But it's not so big as to be too heavy to handle.

The best part about this pot is how nicely the lid fits. I was surprised how tight the lid seals the pot. The steam starts to escape only when the liquid in the pot is boiling really hard. The interior of the lid is unusual looking. It is not flat nor smooth. It has a dozen small protruding tips shaped like candy cones. When steam condenses on the inside of the lid, the resulting liquid falls along those tips back into the pot, instead of dripping off the edge of the lid. Ingeneous, I thought.

I find this a very versatile and useful pot. Extremely well made--almost polished for a cast iron pot. It comes seasoned.

Well, no complaints exactly -it's what I ordered and wanted -but be aware of the exact dimensions of the pan. Though measured across the top the diameter of the pan is accurately 10 1/4 in., the sides slope in making the cooking surface a measly 8 in. -kinda small of you're thinking of frying in larger batches.

I was also hoping to double this deep fryer as a frying pan (I saw the higher sides as a bonus, lessening grease splatter), but again the small 8 in. cooking surface limits what I can make ie. too small for bacon. Apparently, Lodge makes a larger fryer -a 5qt 12" sucker -that might be a better choice for a family, but alas, not available (currently) on Amazon.

Otherwise, a great pan, substantial and well made. The lid is a great bonus to have.

I flat out love this fryer.I purchased it to replace one of those fancy electric deep fryers. By doing so, I've saved counter space, because this fryer sits on your stove and can be stored permanently on the back of your stove full of grease with the cover on it. It will heat grease fast, and because its cast iron there is an exceptional taste difference in everything you fry. Also, you can use it as a regular pot. If you are assembling just the basics or a dream kitchen, a cast iron Skillet, Grill, and Fryer are a must have. There is no replacement item, or substitute for certain things you cook.

I bought this inexpensive pot along with a piece of calphalon.I must say, I like the cast iron better! What a great pot, the size is perfect for those quick prepackaged items us working moms make like rice-a-roni, hamburger helper and scalloped potatoes.Yes its heavy, but it's easy to clean and I just leave it sitting my stove. It takes a little to get used to the proper cooking temperatures, so be careful. Also, I would advise getting the tiny handle cover, because the handle does get very hot.I make my daughter home-made chicken tenders at least once a week, and they came out the best ever using this pot.Prior to this I had been using calphalon and it doesn't make the chicken near as crisp and perfect.Love it!

Nordic Ware Pro Cast 10 Inch Saute Skillet

Nordic Ware Pro Cast 10 Inch Saute SkilletWhile Nordic Ware calls this a "texture-infused nonstick surface," this is not a nonstick pan like a Teflon coated one is. This should be classified as a "low stick" pan. For many things, you can cook without added oil and they will slide out just fine, but for tenacious stickers, like eggs, you do need a small amount of oil. Then you'll end up chasing your food around the inside of the pan with spatula, it's that stick free. As with all nonstick cookware, no metallic utensils or cleaning objects (like a stainless steel scrubby), please.

This pan heats up evenly and cooks well. There are no rivets on the inside to collect gunk. Cleaning up the inside of the breeze with just a sweep with a soapy sponge. It is oven safe up to 400°F.

The outside is a different matter. Cleaning the sides is easy, but the bottom of the pan is covered with little nubs (Nordic Ware calls this an "air cushioned bottom") that I guess are supposed to help distribute heat evenly. The pan does heat evenly so I guess they work, but cleaning the bottom is a real pain. If you get any kind of gunk baked on between the nubs it's darn near impossible to clean. If you're anal about this kind of stuff, this will drive you nuts! If you're one of those who likes to hang your spotlessly clean cookware on a rack for all to admire, this pan is not for you. Another effect of the nubs if you have a gas stove: when you shake the pan it doesn't slide over the grates, but "clunk" as the nubs catch the burner grate bars.

Overall though, this is a great pan. It's nicely balanced, heats evenly, and cleans up easily. Highly recommended, but just remember this is a "low stick" pan not a "nonstick" pan. Made in America is a bonus.

Purchased this pan one month ago to replace an equivocally priced pan (made in China) that was no longer non-stick.We've made cheese omelets, BBQ, and many other dishes, non sticking and wipes clean with just a paper towel.Completely satisfied and it's made in the USA.

I ordered this simply because I need a new skillet, wanted non stick, and wanted it made in the USA. This was everything I needed, and so much more. It is excellent quality, the heat distro is wonderful and I love the surface, so much better than regular teflon. I will be buying more of this style!

I've had this about a week now and sure that isn't a long enough time to truly review something, but just wanted to say that the construction, ease of cleaning, excellent non-stick ability and confidence I have in this pan is so far, pretty much perfect.

Brushtech Toughest Little Kitchen Brush Ever Made

Brushtech Toughest Little Kitchen Brush Ever MadeI boughta brush like this one in Portland OR. I really liked it but I scrubbed too hard and wrecked it. I looked all over for another one. I live in Spokane checked all the kitchen stores, looked around Seattle. No luck. I was happy to find these brushes on Amazon. They are better than my first one. They work great on nasty pans and gooey sinks. Scrub lightly.

Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set

Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware SetThis is the set you want. Why?Here are some reasons. Some are about Stainless steel cookware in general, but all apply specifically to this set.

oStainless steel is sanitary. You can get them perfectly clean very easily.(Commercial food processors are often required to use stainless steel for nearly everything that comes in contact with food.)

oStainless steel cleans up nearly as easily non-stick cookware. You do clean it differently, however.

oThese pans have an aluminum core wrapped on both sides by stainless steel.Stainless steel does not transmit heat quickly but aluminum does.Aluminum is soft and dents easily, stainless steel is hard and strong. This means you get the toughness of stainless steel with the even heat distribution of aluminum.

oEven heat distribution and rapid heating allows you use lower heat setting thus saving energy and reducing the chance of burning food.

oHandles stay fairly cool, better than most cookware I have used.

oDishwasher safe, unlike most non-stick pans.

oOven-safe.Like to grill that steak then broil it to get it tender?Or you need to bake that stuffing then keep it warm?Use one pan!

oPans are a little bottom heavy. They will not tip as easily as lighter weight pans, even empty or with a large spoon hanging off one side.

oPans are well balanced and not too heavy.Want to flip those pancakes or toss those grilled onions, these pans give you fine control. They have been excellent for every use I have put them through.

oLids are interchangeable and fit well! The lids even fit the skillets which is great if you are making grilled sandwiches.Note that lids may seem loose, especially when pans are cold.Remember that as pans get hot, their shape can change. Also, you do not want a perfect seal as you can make a bomb just by boiling water. Thus the lids need a little room to vent steam as well as accommodate changes in the shape of the pan.

If you have a gas range, consider using a flame deflector. This is good advice for ANY type of cookware.

Personally, I have owned the high quality non-stick stuff as well as stainless steel cookware. The non-stick stuff is quite over-rated, it does not clean up any more easily than the stainless pans.None of my non-stick Analon and Caliphon stuff has lasted more than six or eight years. The only stainless steel pot I ever had I got from my mother back in 1979.It is in great condition and looks like I bought it last month.

Unfortunately, some researches recently have linked some of the binding agents in non-stick cookware to cancer, so perhaps, to be safe, avoid the complex chemical treatments of the non-stick stuff and go for simple stainless steel.

For those of you considering upgrading your cookware to professional grade stainless steel, look no further.

I've owned this 12 piece set for over a year, and can't offer enough praise. It still looks brand new (use Barkeepers Friend to clean it). It heats evenly and quickly, retains heat for a long time, sears and browns well without burning, handles comfortably, cleans up easily and looks great!I'm fortunate enough to have several different types of cookware to compare. My cookware includes: All-Clad, JC Penny Elite (5 ply Copper Core), Chefmate tri-ply, Hard Anodized non-stick and Cuisinart Tri-Ply Copper.

In my opinion, the All-Clad Stainless Steel line is much overated. Its great cookware, but has no rolled edges for easy pouring without making a mess, and I prefer the handles on just about any other brand.All-Clad's materials and construction are the same as the other premium lines, with the exception of the rolled edges.Incidentally, staunch supporters of All-Clad make inferences of inferiority when speaking of other brands such as Cuisinart, stating "its made in China".I have two All-Clad pans hanging on the pot rack right now, one made in China, and the other made in Indonesia. Most of their line is made in the USA, but premium cookware made overseas (including some of their own lines)is not inferior!

The Chefmate Tri-Ply in direct comparison to the Cuisinart cooks and handles about the same with a slight edge in cleaning ease. The Chefmate has a true mirror finished interior, but overall isn't as heavy duty. The Stainless Steel lids are also a lighter gauge. Its been discontinued.

The JC Penny Cooks Elite 5 ply Copper Core is fantastic cookware, and the equal of the All-Clad Copper Core in every way except the handle. The handle of the Elite is far superior to All-Clad's.In comparison to the Cuisinart, its very comparable in performance, but quite a bit heavier. Its original price was about 2-3 times the cost of the Cuisinart. It too has been discontinued.

The Hard Anodized non-stick cookware is fine, convenient to use, even heating, and now relegated to camping. It doesn't brown foods like Stainless Steel does. The non-stick fininsh WILL wear off, and render the cookware somewhat useless with daily use.

The Cuisinart Copper Tri-Ply is fantastic and really the only competitor for the Multiclad. It looks fantastic, cooks fantastic and gives you an ever so tiny advantage in temperature control over the Multiclad. The pots and pans are the same configuration as the Multiclad, albeit with an outer layer of Copper instead of Stainless Steel. The handles are different as well, but both styles of handles are cool to the touch and comfortable to hold.I enjoy the Copper and don't mind the few minutes it takes to polish, but if you don't want Copper and the extra effort, the Stainless is perfect.I only use the Copper when preparing special dishes for company or when I need specialty pans such as Sauciers for Risoto or sauces.Otherwise, I rely on the Multiclad for daily use.

Incidentally, I have no afilliation with any of the above cookware brands.I am in the food service industry (restaurant design and build) and have the opportunity to speak with many chefs. You'd be very surprised by how many of them use Cuisinart Multiclad or Copper tri-ply at home.I'd say its a 50-50 split between All-Clad and Cuisinart for their home use.

With so many high end brands after your hard earned dollar, you can buy similar quality and performance, but there is no better value than Cuisinart Multiclad. It's heirloom quality and will be your last cookware purchase.

Update:

I reviewed this cookware set some time ago, and thought it appropriate to write an update.I've been reading through all the reviews that have been written since my first review, and everyone seems to say "as good as All-Clad".

I DISAGREE!

Cuisinart Multi Clad isn't as good as All Clad; IT'S BETTER!I have both All Clad and Cuisinart as well as other brands of high end cookware including Tri Ply, Five Ply Copper Core, Copper etc. Here are my reasons for declaring Cuisinart the winner:

oRolled edges on the Cuisinart eliminate dribbling down the side of the pan as experienced with the All Clad. All Clad top of the line Copper Core does have rolled edges as well, but their stainless line that directly competes with the Cuisinart does not.In daily use this makes a huge difference.

oThe Cuisinart handles are far superior to the All Clad. The Cuisinart remain cool enough to touch without pot holders, and their ergonomic shape and angle are very comfortable when shaking, flipping, tossing and moving the pans. The All Clad handle is thrust up at a sharp angle which is somewhat awkward, and the handle itself is uncomfortable.

0The Cuisinart can be used on induction ranges. The previous Multi Clad line wasn't designed for induction ranges, but the Multi Clad Pro is and therefore no more advantage to All Clad in this respect.

0The Cuisinart line cleans up easier than All Clad.I've cooked eggs in both All Clad and Cuisinart pans using the same prep and cooking mediums. In fact, I've cooked one egg per pan using the same burner without altering the gas flow.Eggs stuck slightly in the All Clad, and not at all in the Cuisinart. The Cuisinart's interior is slightly more highly polished than All Clad, and I suspect this to be the reason.I was able to repeat the same results with skin-on chicken, fish and other troublesome foods.Deglazing and clean up is just easier with the Cuisinart.

oSome All Clad pieces don't come with lids! You have to purchase a lid as an option.I have nearly every piece of Cuisinart, and each came with a lid (skillets are the exception).

oCost.Cost isn't the only factor here. However, if two products perform similarly and will last virtually forever, why pay way more for one based on brand prejudice? The product that performs the best should be the clear winner regardless of price. Therefore, Cuisinart wins outright, and the fact that the entire 12 piece set costs less than most All Clad single pieces makes it a remarkable value.

In conclusion, Cuisinart has better design and construction, both ergonomically and practically (rolled edges and handles), easier clean up and maintenance, and out performs All Clad.

...with the right pot.

When I was checking into buying more high-quality cookware a few years ago, I was totally sold on AllClad, but then a friend of mine whose job at the time was to test kitchen cookware (if you can believe that!) told me I should check out Cuisinart's MultiClad line instead.Turns out it's had the same features (and add-ons) as the AllClad I was so in love with (stainless steel wrapped around an aluminum core), but without the major price tag that comes with the "AllClad" name.

So I got the Cuisinart line and absolutely have loved it ever since I've even been adding to my collection every year or so.

As far as comparing it to nonstick cookware...well, I still have some nonstick pieces, but I don't use them much a little bit of Pam Cooking Spray, and I haven't had any trouble. It also comes with great cleaning instructions...in fact, mine still look almost new even though they're a few years old.

----------

Update September 2010...I just wanted to add that I've had this set for almost 10 years of heavy use now and still love them. When I follow the cleaning instructions, they look new.I'm still adding to my collection and highly recommend.

This is a great set. I looked at Calphalon, All-Clad & Emeril (and others) before deciding on these. I have an All-Clad pan and yes they are great. But for a Stainless steel set like this, the All-Clad, Calphalon & Cusinart Multiclad are all made the same way. They all have stainless interior and exterior with an aluminum core that runs from the bottom up the sides. Cheaper sets like Cuisinart's Chefs Classic or Emeril's, only have the aluminum core on the bottom of the pan with little or no core on the sides.

The Multiclad, tri-ply, etc. sets will all perform basically the same way. However the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro is in my view an outstanding set of pans and they work great. I cannot see any reason to pay $100-$350 more for a set of pans that are basically the same thing. And, if you look at them closely, the Cuisinart Multiclad pans have a nicer more polished interior finish than Calphalon. That means they stick a little less and are easier to clean. The other benefit of stainless is it's dishwasher safe as well, but I usually hand wash. I've only had this set a few weeks but I've used most of the pans. And I've been so impressed by them that I have also purchased a few additional Cuisinart Multiclad pans to complete my set the 4 Qt. sauce pan, the 5.5 Qt. saute' pan and their double boiler. I like the 4 Qt. size when I want to boil water but don't want to use a big pot. And just to let everyone know, I also have an old Cuisinart 12.5" skillet and it still looks and works great. I've used it on gas and electric stoves and it just works great. One other thing about these pans, you don't need to set the heat above medium for most cooking and to boil water, I only need med-high. I'm very happy with Cuisinart and I know these are the last pans like this I'll ever need to buy. I do own a few non-stick pans as well but I really don't use them that often now that I have these.

Want Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set Discount?

My girlfriend and I did a huge amount of research when we were looking into buying a cookware set, and we found the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro to be by-far the best compromise between quality and price. They're substantially cheaper than, for example, the All-Clad MasterChef line, and they have a stainless steel exterior which is generally preferrable to aluminum for cleaning (dishwasher safe, among other things). We've been cooking hard with them for a few months now, and they've been awesome so far.

Notes:

1.Don't confuse these with the Cuisinart Chef's Classic line.Chef's Classic is cheaper, with thin, stainless-steel sides and an aluminum plate inside the bottom only.Multiclad Pro is fully clad -aluminum in the bottom and all the way up the sides for more even heating, sandwiched between stainless steel on the inside and outside for durability and corrosion resistance.

2.Neither of the Cuisinart lines will work on an induction cooktop. If you have an induction cooktop or you're thinking of getting one someday, you may want to look elsewhere -the All-Clad Stainless line might be your best bet, but they cost an arm and a leg.

Nordic Ware Superior Steel 14 Inch Saute Pan

Nordic Ware Superior Steel 14 Inch Saute PanThe pan seems to be a little shallow and a little lightweight but it has not warped or failed me. In general, reviews of less expensive pans suggest that the nonstick surface wears off over time.I will not feel bad about replacing this pan when the time comes because it was reasonably priced. It looks like you need to get into the $200 to $300 range to get a really high quality pan. For the price, this one is an overall good deal.

The metal on this pan is way too thin. When on my largest burner and on low heat, the bottom warps and is no longer flat. It begins to rock on the burner. The heat transfer is also horrible. The center of the pan burns the food, but the edges don't even cook. This pan might be ok for a sauce that you have to constantly stir, but is horrible for anything that has to sit for even one minute. One star is one too many for this pan. I sent it back.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Giant Reversible Grill/Griddle

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Giant Reversible Grill/GriddleFits over two burners on my stove just right and give equal and consistent heat coverage. Nice drain rim so that when you use the grill area the meat stays up off the heat and doesn't stick, as well as the meats fat is drained off to the sides.

Flip the cooker over and you have a flat surface that accommodates six nice size pancakes and four eggs well. Also can be used for making crepes I discovered.

If you can fit it into your budget buy two. This enables you to cover four gas burners on a stove and while you are cooking up bacon sausage etc on one you can be doing a bushel of pancakes on the other.

Have also used one as a heating plate. I simply place one over two gas burners and heat to hot, then turn down to low or warm so that it keeps the griddle-grill a consistent degree and then I set three containers I have vegetables, pasta etc in, on it and this keeps the food warm but doesn't overcook or burn the food.

I have used the grill side several times since purchasing it and am VERY pleased. It is a little pricey but it also has a coating that a Lodge or other cast iron grill/griddles don't have.I also believe the grill marks are superior to other grills. Tough to fit into the budget but I think it was worth it! First of all, for those people that are getting rust spots after washing, you must dry your griddle by reheating it until any excess water evaporates. I then rub a light coat of oil into the pan when it's still slightly warm. If you have the rust spots just wash the grill with a brush and follow the drying and oiling process I explained above. You should quickly build a nice patina to your grill. It should only take a few times of doing this because of the enamel type coating. BEFORE using this grill I washed it in VERY hot tap water with a brush to remove any coating that was put on at the time of manufacturing. This should also help with sticking food. I have also coated the pan heavily with oil the first few uses. I've grilled delicate fish and shrimp with no sticking. After it becomes somewhat coated you can build on this by just wiping it with a damp cloth and drying on the burner. At this point any sticking should be minimal. Don't use anything abrasive. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Buy Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron Giant Reversible Grill/Griddle Now

I've had this griddle for about a month, and am quite pleased overall. It is heavyweight, and has a tough black enameled finish that quickly builds up a slight seasoning (oily film) within a few uses. Foods stick much less than then would on a raw cast iron grill. It does a great job cooking pancakes, bacon, or grilling hamburgers or steak.

The only negative qualities are that it could use a larger reservoir for grease, and it would be handy to have larger handles if you need to pick it up hot. But these negatives do not outweigh its use.

Living in an apartment doesn't allow me the space to have the luxury of being able to grill foods and I love grilled food. So finally I broke down and put in an order for the Le Creuset reversable grill. I finally received this wonderful reversable grill just a couple of days ago and since then I have been grilling like crazy. The heavy weight of the reversable grill remains in place over the two burners while I am flipping the food which is quite helpful. I also like how the fat of the meat drips down to the side, meaning that the food isn't drowning in its own fat which a lot of health conscious people can appreciate. I just discovered that when cleaning the grill, it helps that it is under running water and/or soaking in the sink filled with soapy water but you have to wait until it has cooled off from being over the hot stovetop. I don't mind so much about cleaning it because I honestly love grilling food and everything else doesn't matter to me. I haven't used the griddle side yet but when I do it will be so much more convient than using a couple of pans to cook my eggs and bacon.

This is a very good grill. It heats and holds heat very well, and does a pretty good job of heating evenly, although there are "hot spots" on the grill in between the 2 burners.

A tip from my wife for cleaning is to put a damp paper towel over the grill when you finish cooking, and after it has cooled a little and letting it set.It makes clean-up a lot easier.

Spirit 8" Thermolon Fry Pan

Spirit 8' Thermolon Fry PanFirst, I love to cook and cook a lot.My go to pans are All-Clad and Le Creuset. My small All-Clad skillet is not a non-stick so I got this one to try out.I need to replace my 12" non-stick All-Clad which I've had for years. This pan works so well that I'm going to purchase the 12" as well.I saw this pan being used on a cooking show and was amazed at how the food appeared to slide right out of the pan with no sticking. And it does! The first thing I did was make a couple of cheese omelettes they slide right out of the pan.Even the 2nd one without any cleaning or prep.Of course, a surface this slick makes clean-up a breeze! You can put it in the dishwasher, but I was in my test mode so I washed it by hand.

I'm surprised at the other review that says it's non-stick.It's baffling to me what could have happened since my pan is so clearly non-stick.The surface is really smooth and appears pretty hard. It's also the safer non-stick coating that can be heated up to 850 degrees.Don't think I'll be doing that, but I can put it in the oven to finish off dishes where I couldn't do that with my other non-stick skillet.

I am truly amazed.

We do a lot of cooking and have always been wary of the aging Silverstone pans and replaced frequently. These pans are amazing and very hearty! We love them and will now be using these as our new favorite Wedding present. Get two.

I've had this pan for over a year and a half and it looks like new. It is perfect for frying things that would normally stick in stainless steel. I use it on an induction cooktop and it heats fast and the handle stays cool. I just read the information on it and didn't realize how tough it really was. I've been using it about the same as I would a standard non stick, but one of those types of pans would have been toast by now. I think I will be buying another, bigger one to use, too!

The product description above claims:

" Features: -Patented Thermolon ceramic technology is durable to withstand oven temperatures up to 850 degrees..."

However, the instructions for my pan indicate that it should not go beyond 500 degrees f, and they don't recommend bringing the heat on a cooker above medium, but the medium temps vary from unit to unit. Also, that a thin amount of oil should still be used each time to retain the nonstick properties of that surface, followed with gentle cleaning to prevent that gunky buildup of sticky oil that will ruin all nonstick over time.I use a small bit of paper towel to rub safflower oil on only the areas of the pan I will use to cook something like pancakes, and I always hand wash nonstick regardless as if it says it is "dishwasher safe."The pan works so well I really don't have to use an extra thin layer of oil, but I've learned to be an instruction follower as I've ruined a few nonstick pans when I didn't.

This 8" pan is great, although I wish it were made in America, and that is the only drawback. It heats up well, and seems to not need that much heat.I have yet to try the larger 12" pan though, so that one might take longer to heat up.The quality of the aluminium core is also important as some cheaper aluminium pans contain other metals, which prevent them from heating evenly or well.My Target "Green Pan" with Thermalon is one that takes a while to heat up, doesn't heat evenly, and I'm not sure why unless it is made with impure aluminium. It isn't just the coating, but the way the pan is made that makes it work well.

Fissler Blue Point 4.5 Quart Pressure Skillet without lid

Fissler Blue Point 4.5 Quart Pressure Skillet without lidI bought this pressure skillet as a complement to a 10 quart Fissler pressure cooker, which I thought would be cost efficient since the pressure lid would fit both units. This item is described as a pressure skillet appropriate for browning, sauteing, etc...I was looking forward to being able to use less oil for healthier cooking, having read about the honeycomb Novagrill surface that is to be found in these skillets.

This pan seems to be a dead ringer for the pressure skillet (with Novagrill surface) that comes with a pressure lid, glass lid and mesh basket.Another website states that it does in fact have that surface. But that isn't the case. The skillet's surface is plain and flat. While it looks to be a terrific pan and very solidly built, it is important to know it doesn't benefit from that technology.

To get the Novagrill surface, one will need to order the four-piece set.Which I have done, I just wish it had been better described. As a skillet, I imagine its function would suffer a bit from not having the highly touted technology and don't quite understand why Fissler wouldn't make it available on all its pressure skillets.

I have written this review so others will not make the same assumption.Hope this helps, and happy pressure cooking!

Pot And Pan Organizer

Pot And Pan Organizer3 stars for 2 reasons:

1) Your larger pot/pan covers must be stored in the slots with your smallest pots/pans and vice versa. If all your pots/pans/covers are large, then this organizer doesn't fully work as the covers will have to be stored elsewhere. As shown in the picture, when you grab a large pan, you must first remove the small pan cover so that you can cleanly extract the item w/o bumping the pan cover. If only there was a way to store the cover with the pot/pan that it goes with. Also, the covers are not securely held in place, so you must open the organizer drawer carefully or covers may slip off.

2) The installation instructions are not very good. The only picture I had to go on was the one provided by Amazon. The product wasn't even shown in the product brochure or installation instructions that came with the item. The instructions are not specific as to how the item is to be placed in the cabinet. Centering the item works, but this isn't the best place as larger/heavier pans (which go into the back) may be harder to get in. I found it best to offset the organizer a couple inches.

On a positive note, I'm no longer stacking pots/pans and there is less bending over since all the pot/pan handles are oriented upwards.

I purchased this organizer with the hope that it would solve all the issues we were having with the growing number of pots in the cabinet. In that regard it is almost perfect. What i found is that this is well suited for normal sized skillets and the smaller pots.

If you have a larger pan (think of those 3 inch deep skillets that are oversized) or a common dutch oven sizedpot, it may not work for you.The depth of the pot will take up most of the available space so as to make it virtually unable to hold any of your other pans unless you nest them inside of each other. In which case, you need to figure out how to protect the non-stick interiors. For the larger skillet, i found that the handle could barely fit in the cabinet once set in the organizer and the little handle on the front of the pan, extends out and will get hung up on the slide if you aren't careful.

With the exception of those two types of pots/pans, this is a great organizer. It holds all of the other standard pots and the lids just like the picture shows.

If you are considering purchasing this item, my recommendation is to look at your current cabinet and determine what kinds of pots/pans you have. For those with larger pots, you might be better off considering drawers that slide out and just installing two of those to reclaim that space lost by the half shelf.

Ekco Everyday Radiance Open Saucepan

Ekco Everyday Radiance 3-Quart Open SaucepanThis is a real staple for cookware essentials, especially if you already have a pot cover or two around. The two quart size is just right for so many things. The handle is sturdy. In fact, the entire pan has a sturdy and comfortable feel. Plus, it is easy to clean.

A good value.

I love the pot.It cooks great and nothing sticks.it cam with a few scratches on the outside.I still do like the way the pot cooks and the size is perfect.

I ordered two of these in December for a cost of $3.52 each... amazing price so I was willing to 'risk' it sight-unseen.Pans are wonderful... great nonstick. And for that price it doesn't matter how long they last, although it appears they'll be around quite a while.

This little pot is exactly what I wanted and needed.Even though it was smaller than my old pot, I use it almost everyday. It is so very light that I can lift it even when full w/o effort. The non-stick surface is amazing. It even cleaned up easily when I over reheated some tomato sauce.I haven't had it long enough to know if the surface will last, but at this price, if it only lasts a few years I won't be disappointed.I recommend this highly and plan to buy the next size up for bigger things.

Progressive International Omelet Pan

Progressive International Omelet PanI don't usually respond to these things, but this time I felt that a warning was due: This is truly the worst piece of junk I have bought in some time! The metal is paper-thin, both handles broke, and worst of all, when heated, the metal warped so that the bottom was rounded (Not good on my flat-top range! Yes, I only used medium heat.) This pan went in the trash after the first use! Stay away from this product!

I like the pan alot.So far, the omelettes I have made were the best omelettes I ever had.I used 4 eggs, with green peppers, onions and cheedar cheese.I melted the butter before I put the eggs in the pan, then I put the eggs in each side of the pan, let them cook slowly, added the peppers, onions & cheese, cooked it alittle longer with the pan still open.Once I felt it was almost cooked, I fliped the non handled part over (no eggs leaked at all) and cooked it a little longer making sure everything was cooked and the cheese was melted. I cooked it really slow (on 3 on my electric stove)They came out so fluffy and delcious.I even put it in the dishwasher and used the pan again. The pan survived the dishwasher and still continues to make great omelettes.I just made sure when I put the pan together when I first got it, that I tightened the screws really well.So far no problems.I was surprised reading so many people were unhappy with it.I'm actually buying two more today.

I used to have one with a hinge all along the back... this has two rivets on each edge....so the omlette pieces (and raw egg) will leak or fall out when you fold it closed or flip it.And I think it is supposed to be non-stick...but the metal is so thin, I cooked one omlette (the first one) and it burned in one area in the center and the burn will not come off the pan... back to the thrift stores to find a durable older one I guess.

I received this pan as a Christmas gift and can't believe what a piece of junk it is.Please don't waste your money or insult anyone with this garbage.Cheaply made, plastic and paper thin teflon coated metal.I can't believe people would even consider buying this garbage. If you want quality cookware, purchase Anolon, Calphalon, All-Clad, etcetra.

Oh my gosh...when you get the pan it comes disassembled, so you have to screw the handle together.Well, I used it once and the handle came right off while cooking. Now, the screw is stripped and it can't be put back!I used it only once!Well that was the most expensive omelet I ever had.Aside from the handle, overall it is a very cheap pan and it does not look like it will last very long.I'm going to return this item.

Garcima 14-Inch All-Purpose Pan Lid, 36cm

Garcima 14-Inch All-Purpose Pan Lid, 36cmThe only thing I like about this product is that is fits (barely) the 14" pan I bought it for.Otherwise it was expensive compared to its quality. It easily bends out of shape if not stored flat, and when it's stored flat it takes up a good amount of cabinet space.I do not recommend this product unless you're desperate for a lid to fit a 14" frying pan.

This is one of the cheapest item I have ever seen. It was wrapped so tight that by the time I got it open, the lid was all bent up. Was completely disappointed with this purchase. Should have been in a dollar bin. Should not have cost upward of 10 dollars, no less shipping on top. WOW

Buy Garcima 14-Inch All-Purpose Pan Lid, 36cm Now

This lid is extremely light, to the point that it will bend easily in your fingers.I'd say about 4x as heavy as Reynolds heavy foil. If more, not by much.It also has vents all the way around in a ring about 6" diameter.I'm a little concerned about stuff running down the lid as it vents out and condenses there. It also has no rim inside to allow the majority of drips to fall into the pan.All said, I'm not thrilled.I'm not sure where I'm going to keep this where it will be safe from being bent.I guess the upside to this is that it is so light I'll be able to put my own lip inside it for the drips.

Do not buy this product. It is basically a round piece of aluminum foil costing seventeen dollars. It bends in your fingers. It bends under its own weight. It bends when it bumps against items in your kitchen cupboard. It bends in the dishwasher. It cannot be flattened again without looking like a crumpled piece of foil. It is a single use product. If it cost 99 cents, there would be a market for it I expect: you'd buy them six at a time or something. Well, I wouldn't, but somebody would. As it is, at seventeen dollars, it is a proverbially criminal rip-off.

I bought this lid to cover a large (14 inch diameter) frying pan. The lid is lightweight and works for this size pan as well as for a smaller one. I do have a significant complaint, which is that the lid has too many steam vents. i can't steam an item without adding a lot of liquid, far more than if I were to simply cock the lid, which is my usual method of venting steam while cooking.

Hamilton Beach 38500 Step Savor Skillet/Griddle Combination

Hamilton Beach 38500 Step Savor Skillet/Griddle CombinationI have bought two of these appliances, one for me and then one as a gift for my in-laws. I had to so they would not take mine. The bottom portion is great for breakfast foods like pancakes and eggs. The top portion is even better for cooking a variety of foods, including sautéing onions and vegetables and browning meats. The skillet section also doubles as a serving dish that makes it much easier to keep food warm at the table. The variable heat setting also give you great control over the cooking times.I highly recommend the skillet griddle.

I was skeptical about this item at first but I am almost completely sold on it after using it for a few months. The griddle is absolutely the best!!The pan doesn't get quite hot enough even at the highest setting to do a proper job of stir fry.The clean up is very easy and a real bonus feature. The complaints about the plastic taste must come from the use of the lid.We rarely use the lid but use either the griddle or the combination unit at least once a week without the lid.

Buy Hamilton Beach 38500 Step Savor Skillet/Griddle Combination Now

I was given this skillet as a gift, and I'm glad that I didn't pay for it.While the lower half is passable as a griddle (it heats well, has a nice nonstick surface, and is stable on a countertop), its limited cooking area makes it hard to make more than a few small pancakes or a eggs at a time -not what you want in an electric griddle (otherwise, you'd use a pan, right?).

As an electric skillet, it's decidedly below average. The removable skillet design slows heating, and it's often difficult to achieve simmering temperatures, even with the lid on.Forget simmering with the lid off, because you'll be waiting all day.As a result, it's a terrible braising device -it's difficult to brown the food, and hard to maintain a simmer.

I would only recommend this skillet to those who are very limited on kitchen space.Otherwise, for about the same price you can buy both a quality electric skillet, AND an electric griddle.

I've had my H-B Step Savor Skillet/Griddle for several months now, and I am very happy with it. The griddle accomodates four medium-sized pancakes, and the small lip around the edge keeps the batter off my countertops. The skillet gets hot enough to brown hamburger meat and has enough capacity to prepare a substantial main dish for a family of 4-6. The temperature control has temperature markings for both the griddle and the skillet, since the skillet temperature runs lower than the griddle.

Clean-up is easier than with traditional electric skillets. You don't need to worry about immersing the electrical components because the skillet lifts off the base (which is the griddle) and can be washed like any non-stick cookware. The griddle wipes clean with a paper towel or damp sponge.

Though I'm not much for home entertaining, I can imagine this electric skillet being very handy -you can cook in it, then turn the temperature down to keep the food warm for as long as you need to. The lid has an adjustable vent in it to control the moisture level inside.

I only wish that the non-stick coating was a bit tougher. I've been careful to avoid scratches so far, but I know it's only a matter of time. I just hope that H-B keeps making these clever kitchen tools, because when this one becomes unusable, I'll certainly buy another one!

Next Day Gourmet Black Silicone Pan Handle 6-1/4"L For 14" Fry Pans

Next Day Gourmet Black Silicone Pan Handle 6-1/4'L For 14' Fry PansI read the other reviews that are 1* for this handle, and it is all about the proper fit. This particular handle fits perfectly on my Mauviel 12" crepe pan Mauviel M'Heritage M150B 6526.30 12-Inch Round Frying Pan with Bronze Handle, and makes a huge difference:the handle gets so hot that it is almost unusable without the silicone grip. But the metal handle it fits on is flat and about 3/4" wide so if you have a wider pan handle this is not the one for you.To make the descriptions more useful these silicone handle companies need to better specify the dimensions of the handles they will fit it is very confusing otherwise...

The product description implies that this handle can be used with any pan, however, this handle is really only intended for a pan that has a thin, flat handle.

Also: don't get this handle thinking it could be used on a smaller fry pan, I did manage to get it to fit over the handle of an 8" fry pan but the silicone split after one use.

These handles will only slide over your metal pan handle if the handle is as thin and narrow as a butter knife.Nowhere in the description of these silicone handles does it say these are to be used specifically with the French pan set they sell. Very disappointed....

Ecolution Artistry 12-Piece Cookware Set, Black

Ecolution Artistry 12-Piece Cookware Set, BlackEverything pictured on box is present. 12 Pieces. I love this cookware first time my fry pans are NOT getting all scratched up! And it's a great non-stick which makes cleaning a breeze. I haven't used all the pieces yet but like it so far.

The photo does not match the actual contents of the set. (The Ecolution Artistry Eco-Friendly Chicken Fryer with High Dome Glass Lid is not included.) The text description is correct: "8-Inch Fry Pan, 9.5-Inch Fry Pan, 11-Inch Fry pan, 1-Quart Saucepan with glass lid, 2-Quart Saucepan with glass lid, 5-Quart Dutch Oven with glass lid, Bamboo Spatula, Bamboo Spoon, and a collapsible Silicone Steamer." The lid for the Dutch Oven also fits the 9.5" frying pan. No lid is included for the 11-inch frying pan.

Low rating is for the mismatched photo only. The pans actually seem pretty nice! (Haven't used them yet.)

Joie Piggy Wiggy Mini Fry Pan

Joie Piggy Wiggy Mini Fry PanI purchased this product. The eggs that you make in them don't look like pigs. Also, you have to flip them over to cook the other side which is awkward in this pan. I tried cooking with a plate ontop to help cook the top of the egg but it didnt help much.

A large, beaten egg is a little too big for the pan too. I would buy the cheaper round pan sold on amazon if I could go back.

We purchased 3 of these pans hoping our eggs would look like pigs, they didn't. It was really hard to turn them to the other side as well, I had to use a fork. On another occasion I tried frying mini pancakes hoping they would look like pigs, but they didn't either. Really hard to turn to the other side as well. After about 4 or 5 times of frying eggs, the pink handle started cracking at the bottom of the 3 pans.

I bought this pan at a store hoping to be able to use it for making egg breakfast sandwiches. The egg gets hopelessly stuck in the pan (so much for non-stick) and it is impossible to turn. So the bottom of the egg gets burned while the top is still raw. I then tried using this pan to make cute, little piggy pancakes and I even used a bit of oil to make the pancake batter not stick, again no success. The pancake got totally ruined when I tried to flip it and it still stuck to the pan.

Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press

Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich PressI feel like I am back on the streets of Paris every time I plug in my beautiful Cuisinart Panini and Sandwich Press. This press makes the best grilled cheese sandwich you ever ate, I guarantee it.I love how you can stick a whole hoagie roll or chunk of french bread loaf with sandwich makings inside into it and squish it into a hot & yummy hunk of cheese-oozong goodness.Or, you can use regular bread and make toasty club sandwiches or grilled cheese.

This guy hangs out in the cupboard and is easy to pull out, just plug in and wait for the green light to come on.You can have a quick french dip dinner ready in 5 minutes that everyone will lovealso perfect for grilled cheese and tomato soup nightor just want to make some garlic bread to go with your spaghetti without heating up the whole oven?I LOVE my panini press.

It is really easy to cleanalthough I haven't tried grilling meats or anything beyond sandwiches and bread.Gooey cheese comes off easily and the whole thing wipes down quickly with a damp washcloth.

Elvis would have died over the peanut butter and banana sandwiches we make in this baby! The frying pan's got nothin' on our Panini Press.

Normally I'm not one to go crazy over kitchen appliances but I am compelled to sing the praises of this little wonder. This is sad, but my wife and I eat grilled cheese sandwiches a couple of nights a week because we love them so much. It's sort of our dirty little secret. This little miracle has opened up a whole new universe of possibilities. Our old-style Salton grilled-cheese maker would invariable push the top slice of bread out from the rest of the sandwich because of the operation of the hinge, and forget about putting anything in there other than bread and a couple of slices of cheese because it couldn't handle the thickness. With the GR-1 though, you can put a Dagwood-sized sandwich (the floating hinge allows HUGE sandwiches) in and in just a few minutes, the weight of the top plate has compressed the whole thing into a critical mass of concentrated goodness. Anything I can put between two piecs of bread is becoming a panini these days. This will probably take five years off of my life because I have doubled my weekly consumption of molten cheese, but it's worth it.

After reading the reviews of similar products and this one and knowing that I'm always disappointed when I go for the cheap stuff, I bought this one. I am SO glad I did. My son has been a big fan of grilled cheese sandwiches for 5 years now and it's not slowing down. I hate getting out the frying pan (and the butter) and making them the old-fashioned way. With the Cuisinart, I don't have to use butter. The taste is still great! My son gives it a thumbs up. Plus in less time than it takes me to make one the old-fashioned way I can make two. And my son can use it too. It's so easy, just put the cheese in the bread, wait for the green light, put the sandwich on the griddler and watch it do all the work. I've experimented with other kinds of sandwiches and they all turn out perfectly. I even use it to do quesadillas and heat up fish sticks. It works and makes them crunchy. Plus it doesn't heat up the whole house like the oven does.

The GR1 works just fine but it is impossible to clean and there is no temperature control. Those are it's faults.

You can buy the GR35 at Costco for $39, it is the same size and it has an on off switch with temperature control, and the plates are removable and flat on one side.

I did not like sandwiches that were like waffels when you heat them from the grooved side of the plate. I use the smooth side so they look like they were done in a pan. If you think wiping out grooves is easy just try it for it is not.

With the temperature control you can slow heat the sandwich so the whole sandwich gets hot rather then just the outside.

To turn on the GR1 you must pull the plug in and out of the wall each time, this is just wrong, it will arc each time you do it, this is hard on the wall side and will wear it out. A very bad way to control anything electric.

Get the GR35.

My GR1 is going on ebay.

I looked at several panini presses before deciding on the Cuisinart. We have been very happy with the performance of this panini press. It heats quickly and the floating hinge allows the cooking of thicker sandwiches. The press is simple to clean, even if cheese has baked onto the grill surface. The only thing that might make this press better is a larger grilling surface. But, for the money, this press certainly does the job.
