The riveted stay-cool steel handle allows you to handle the pot while cooking without a potholder, wich is nice if you like to make quick sauces or gravies and pour it right onto food on the plate, also never worry about the handle getting lose. And also while cooking you dont have to open the pot to monitor food, and lose steam or heat due to the break-resistant tempered glass lid. Perfect Perfect Perfect pot.



I purchased both the Cuisinart Hard-Anodized 1-1/2 quart and 2 quart saucepans and am very impressed with the build quality, performance, styling, looks, and value.I have used both several times and find that they distribute heat evenly and work very well on low to medium electric stove burner settings. Clean-up is a snap; hot soapy water makes these saucepans look like they came right from the box.The handles do not get too hot and the non-stick interior shows no sign of deterioration. The glass lids -nice feature -fit just right, however, their handles do get hot so a hotpad is a must.

These saucepans are not as thick or heavy as their Calphalon counterparts but perform just a well and cost less. I think that Cuisinart's non-stick surface is superior to Calphalon's. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I have been slowly building a Cuisinart collection. I am extremely pleased with the value and performance of these pans. I have had the 2qt saucepan for over a year now and it sees frequent use. Great to make home made gravy, sauces, soup, leftovers, or to heat some veggies. I use this pan occaisionally for making rice as well.

The pan heats quickly and evenly, the handle stays cool enough to handle, and the non-stick surface holds up well. I stick to wood and nylon utensils as any non stick surface can be damaged by aggressive metal utensils.

If your looking for a non stick sauce pan buy this one. You'll love the performance and the look. Nice see through lid to watch your veggies too. If used on a long simmer with lid, the lid will get a little hot so keep a pot holder nearby to lift it. Cuisinart makes some great cookware.

This sturdy pan is great for heating up soups and I also use it to stir fry veggies. The nonstick coating works well and I haven't seen any scratches yet. Heats up quickly and evenly. Just make sure you use wood or nylon utensils and keep it medium heat or lower.

Fitx-All Replacement Pan HandleWhen a handle broke on a fry pan that saw daily use for more than 25 years, I looked for a replacement.How disappointing to find that this Fitz-All handle is the only one on the market!I didn't realize how nice the original handle was until I replaced it with this lightweight, flimsy handle.But that's not the problem the problem is that it broke after only a couple of months.I bought a second one, which lasted seven months, and now I've ordered a third one.These handles apparently just can't stand up to the heat they start showing cracks and then break.When I get the new one, I plan to put it on a deeper pan to keep it farther from the heat source.Also, I don't use the deep pan very often, so maybe the handle will last longer.

If anyone finds a better alternative, please post a message!Meanwhile, I'll have to keep buying these cheap handles...

The Fitx-All are too poorly made to last any time.Aluminum screw included in package was too small and even if it did fit is too soft metal to tighten properly.The Fitx-All lid knobs broke in half when tighten down on the lid. If you do purchase these handles expect it to be quite temporary and disappointing.I do not trust these handles and will not put them on large fry pan or pots where they could break with hot food in them.

The other reviews are entirely correct.These handles are terrible in that the handle breaks very easily and the screw does not keep the handle in place.Really deserves zero stars.

Le Creuset Forged Hard-Anodized 11-Inch Nonstick Crepe PanMy wife gave me this pan for Christmas. I had a steel pan I used for years before we got married, but she burned something in it and threw it away, so no crepes for her. Until now.

The pan is aluminum, but it has a very heavy bottom that distributes the heat very evenly. The pan is also very flat and even. The nonstick coating works very well. With the butter in the crepe batter I don't have to oil it at all.

This pan is almost as good as the cast iron crepe pans as far as heating goes.

Were it excels over cast iron crepe pans is that in addition to having an excellent nonstick coating, it is just light enough and the handle is large enough that I can flip a crepe that is the same size as the pan with no utensils. As a bonus, the crepe does not release until it is done just enough. The downside to the nonstick coating is that you can't heat it up to the point you can with cast iron or you will burn up the coating. Having that heat is important to getting that just barely crisp outside with the soft inside. This pan can get very close to that, but you have to adjust the batter a bit. I generally prefer a thinner batter so I can tilt the pan to distribute it, but because of the lower heat requirement I make a slightly thicker batter that does not flow quickly enough so I have to resort to using the little wooden "T" stick to smear it around and thin it down (something I never did before).

The only con besides the heat limit for nonstick is it has rivets for the handle that come through and they are not coated so anything that gets on them tends to get them gunked up a bit.

Unless you are a long time connoisseur of crepes (were you can tell the difference between a half tablespoon of water and a half tablespoon of milk in your batter) you cannot go wrong with this pan.

It's a great pan for the novice or pro. (just don't burn the nonstick coating)

Now I'm kicking myself for not buying this pan 5 years ago.Even heat distribution, great weight and feel, worth the price.

Kotobuki Tamagoyaki Japanese Omelette PanIt comes with a basic-quality non-stick coating. Eggs, oil and a mini silicone spatula are not items that cause surface scratches and I am pretty careful about how I prepare tamago (Japanese omelette)...Nevertheless, I managed to make a couple of chicken scratches on the bottom of the pan near the side edges after the third time used. I'd recommend cutting a styromfoam plate to fit the bottom of the pan to minimize storage scratches.I would have paid more for a Silverstone coating or higher quality coating, but couldn't find something comparable that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It's a more delicate surface than most regular non-stick 'fry' pans, but like most non-stick cookware, you'll probably end up replacing it after hard use. Overall, it's a relatively inexpensive purchase if you don't cook a lot of tamago but would like a pan that fits the purpose.

As a westerner, and non-Asian, who loves to cook Asian (especially Japanese) recipes at home, I was nervous since this pan has such mixed reviews. Let me put those to rest by saying if you are careful, it works great. It does just what it says, and the tamagoyaki does NOT stick. You must use oil, as the mixture contains sugar. It will stick to anything with no oil. Do not skip (or reduce) the oil, and you will find that your yummy snack comes out just as it should. I recommend watching a professional make tamagoyaki, to get a realistic view of the use of the oil. I found lots of good ones on you tube. Happy cooking!

This pan is shaped perfectly to make great tamagoyaki.However, one needs to be more gentle with the surface than I have been.I've used it about a dozen times since I bought it, and the coating is starting to flake off from the pan -this is limited to areas that show scratches on the surface, which were probably from either manipulating the omelets with chopsticks, or from scraping off burned-on egg with a butter knife.My fault, I know, so be warned.Use only silicone tools when contacting the pan's surface -not chopsticks or cutlery.

Also, the picture doesn't show it, but although the metal tang of the handle goes all the way to the end, the wooden part does NOT wrap around fully to the bottom.That is, when you hold the pan by the handle, your fingers wrap around the handle from the wood part to the metal underneath.This is a problem because the metal carries the heat from your cooking flame and will burn your fingers.I have to wear an oven mitt or wrap a towel around the handle to avoid this.

This is a great little omelette pan!I say little because it's smaller than I expected but that hasn't been an issue really.You'd be surprised at how many eggs you can fit when you're rolling them up!I haven't had any issues with sticking like some of the other reviewers have but I do make sure to use a little oil in the pan when I'm making the eggs.Also, the pan feels quite heavy and well made.I've been cooking professionally for longer than I care to think about and I can tell you I've held allot of pots over the years and this one feels better than most for it's price range.Sure, it doesn't have a heavy bottom like some fancier pans but you really don't need all that for making Tamago.The pan conducts heat really quickly and I've made dozens of omelets without burning a single one!It works like a champ!

6-1/2' CI SkilletI hate cleaning, and I don't do things I hate very well, or even close.I always failed every time I "did" dishes.This thing is great; you have to make sure to clean it immediately after use, every time and it's easy to clean.You just need a stiff brush and hot water + hands.No soap required.They actually advise you NOT to use soap.I use this for grilled cheese sandwiches; In the last couple or so months, I started substituting butter with mayo or salad dressing.No harm done, to the food OR the pan.I also use this for pancakes, but you won't get those huge honkin' pancakes you sometimes/normally find at restaurants because this pan is tiny it's 6.5 inches.The pancakes might be referred to as "silver dollar" pancakes, but the size of a silver dollar is like double the size of a US quarter dollar and 6.5 inches is...not.

iittala Dahlstrom 10-Inch Cast Iron Fry PanI invested in this line of cookware about 6 years ago.I have two 3L, 5L, and an 8L of these pots.(There are also some super heavy cast iron skillets that I highly recommend.) They are truly top quality, and are of similar clad construction to allclad.The extra bonus is that they are very stylish.I won't lie... I am willing to pay extra for style with substance.

They also form a mighty impressive display on my potrack ;-)

here is what's good about this cast iron skillet:

1)very sturdy, very manly, very well mounted,polish steel handle, stays very very cool to the touch even on high heat, even the closes part of the handle near the skillet is a bit warm but not very hot to burn you.

2) black enamel coating in and out, unlike true cast iron pans, these resist rust and if you get them wet and forget to clean and dry them right away the enamel coating prevents rust from starting.

3) cast iron is very heavy, the designer thought of reducing the weight by making the side walls of the pan thin to reduce the weight. unlike the kind from lodges the wall of those pans are thick and adds to the weight.

4) the base of the pan is extra thick, thicker than ordinary cast iron pans from lodges. This pan sits flat and so thick it won't warp over constant heat and cooling every time you use it.

5) this pan is not made in china. would be foolish to buy a pan for $140 and made in china. made in netherlands to somewhat justify the hefty price.

6) if you take care of the enamel then this should last a very long time. nothing cheap about this pan's handle and manufacturing process and technique. However cast iron material cookware is cheaper than stainless steel.

7) if you are looking at other cast iron enamel fry pan this is the best one. better than le creuset or other china made le cruset style cast iron skillets.

8) the side wall are flared out at a wider angle so easier to accommodate cooking utensils such as thongs without accidentally burning your hands on the rim of the skillet.

what I don'tlike about this pan

1)only comes in black but that is minor and just a preference

2) the inside flat part could be 1/4" smaller in diameter than a regular 10" skillet. 2 pieces of center cut pork chop would be a tight fit, can be cooked pan fryed but the 2 pieces of meat would be touching each other.

3) Cast iron cookware is cheap, so why so much as $140, would be nice if it is priced below $100. This make it the most expensive cast iron fry pan I ever came across.

4) very heavy and enormous long handle size. This is not a negative, this is the only way the pan's handle can stay cool to the touch from cast iron heat retention properties. I can only imagine women that are around 110 pounds would probably hurt their wrist if held the pan and lift it with one hand. I am a 200lb male and I use 2 hands to carry this thing. but can use 1 hand on the stove if needed to turn the pan so handle faces another direction. amazingly cool handle from a cast iron pan! this pan has the best heat stability, even cooking, and heat retention due to it's hefty weight. but very heavy. itsa good thing the walls are thin otherwise it be more heavy.

5) sometimes if you shop around, new or vintage, for a true cast iron skillet, you can find older cast iron pans with smooth cooking surface and commonly newer ones with bumpy rough cooking surface. I prefer the smoother surface. This pan is enamel coated but it has a rough surface not the smooth kind. I wonder if it still can be just as good of nonstick of a smooth cast iron pan if properly oiled and heated.

My dad has a pot like this and we love borrowing it.When I saw this available, we bought it, even though it is pricey.But when I opened the box, the first thing I saw was a sticker on the box saying it's made in South Korea.Nothing against Koreans, but if I am going to buy a European product at European prices, I expect it to be made in FInland like my dad's pot, not at some cut rate supplier price.The quality of the product even looks "cheaper" than the one my dad has, and his is well used already and still looks 1000 time better.I returned it right away!

Aesthetically, the Dahlstrom fry pan is a thing of beauty. I had read about it and saw it on Amazon. I had to have it! I ordered it knowing full well that it weighed a ton and so when it arrived I was not surprised by the sheer heft of it. So be warned, this pan is not for anyone who might have problems lifting a pan that's almost 6 1/2lbs.

As to its ability to heat up and do the job of frying, it's right up there with my trusty 20 year-old Lodge cast iron skillet. No complaints and the over-length handle is a real asset compared to the short stubby handles seen on most cast iron skillets. So that's the good news. Now the bad. And it all revolves around that handle.I expected it to be attached by rivets. It is not. Instead there are two screws that attach the handle to the frying surface. And those screws are my problem. After a very short time they became loose and the handle became wobbly. I've tried re-tightening the screws a number of time but I can't seem to make them secure.I believe that this is a design fault. Or perhaps, I just got a very heavy lemon from Scandinavia.

Procter-Silex 25218 Compact GrillI bought this cuz it was only $, expecting to use it only occasionally.I ended up using it for dinner 4 times a week!

PROS: With a small cooking surface, it is perfect for single servings (or picky family members with different dinner preferences.)It cooks chicken and fish very quickly.No more than 5 or 6 minutes for a thawed chicken breast; less for fish fillets.I find steak to be juicier and more tender than frying or broiling.

Kinda easy to clean.Just wipe with a couple paper towels.When cool, clean around the rest of the components.

CONS: Small cooking surface. The cord is short.And, except for the plastic handle, it gets VERY HOT so you cannot move it or turn it around when hot. Depending on what you are cooking, the drip cup may need emptying during the cooking process, which can be messy.

Sandwiches do not brown well, due to the height of the internal grids.



I've never owned a George Foreman grill, but if I were to believe the the reviews, then this grill is pretty decent in comparison, and much cheaper.

You can grill slices of meat, sandwiches, burgers, whatever.I used to have to cook things like frozen fishsticks, chicken tenders, and tator tots to feed this kid, and instead of using my oven, I used this.My frozen foods are usually cooked to crispy perfection at the time it takes to preheat my oven.It's kinda small though so you'll have to grill your burgers one at a time and despite the picture at the top, you probably won't be able to do kabobs.I love toasting my sandwiches on this thing and getting stripey grill marks.And I love watching all the fat drip off my meat and into the tray below.

Downsides include cleaning.The grill plates don't detach, and you're not allowed to submerge the thing in water, so that means you have to wipe the grill off carefully with soapy water while it's still warm before the fat coagulates.Then you have to wash the soap off and try not to wet the undetachable wire at the same time.Kinda tricky.

Not a bad little grill if you're just making a snack or a sandwich but it's damned hard to clean since the plates aren't removable. If you're thinking about buying this to make burgers or anything else that requires actual cleaning (as opposed to just wiping the grill plates off) you probably want to keep looking.

I really like this little grill.It's very small, so it doesn't take up much room on the counter.But it cooks very nicely.I've cooked chicken, steak, pork chops and vegetables and it does a good job on everything.

I received this as a gift in 2006 and use it several times a week. It still heats up just as hot as the first day I used it! I'd rather grill Chicken breasts and salmon on this than go to a restaurant and it only takes a few minutes. Grilled vegetables also turn out nicely. I haven't tried making sandwiches on this grill.

PROS: The small cooking surface takes up very little counter space and is perfect for one or two people. It cooks quickly and evenly. I find cleanup to be really easy.

CONS: The unit does not have an on/off switch, so I sometimes get a little spark when I plug it in. It also has a rather short cord. The drip cup is not large enough. I have replaced mine with an empty frozen food tray which fits nicely under the feet catches all the fat and never touches the grill so there is no risk of overheating or melting the tray.

The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because of no on/off switch, and I can't make pancakes on it.

-Non-stick works really well; there is hardly any sauce left in the pot/pan after you simply pour it out.

-The handles do not get hot.

-Lids fit well and are very high-quality.

CONS:

-Scratches easily.

-The bottom of the pots and pans are ribbed and hard to clean.

-We used the pans on a gas stove, and the non-stick wore off in approximately a year (not due to scratches but probably due to the heat). We are looking for a new set of longer-lasting cookware.

No matter where I shopped I couldn't find a better deal than Amazon.Now the down side,When I recieved the pots, on the dutch oven there was a manufactures defect on the bottom of the pot.The shinny, ribbed silver part was incomplete and it had some pretty deep scratches on it.I called the number provided in the Farberware box as directed by farberware and customer service so rudley told me they wont deal with it.Even though it was a manufactures defect, farberware won't honor thier warranty because I got the set off Amazon and they don't carry that set as an open stock item.So now I have to ship the entire package back to amazon to get a replacement of only the dutch oven.Amazon's customer service was great, farberwares on the other hand needs a whole lot of improvement.

I've been very happy with this set, especially the silicone handles as they really do stay cool. They're a huge step up from what we've been using (about 15 year old cheap and rather heavy cookware hooray for the student life). The only thing I might say is that they are quite easily scratched with metal utensils, probably a no-brainer I know but it was a little easier than I was expecting. Overall I love them though. They are made of aluminum so they are light and cook evenly, and the handles won't burn you.

I was given this set about 4 years ago as a gift when I moved out of my parents house and on my own. It's lasted a long time and only a few days ago did I have to finally toss out 2 pieces (the skillets) because of the Teflon flaking off. The set has a nice weight to it and really lasts. I think it's a great gift for someone who is just starting out. Also, the glass lids have a good seal and don't rattle around. The larger skillet in the set is a good size, but it's not big enough or deep enough to do one-skillet meals like Hamburger Helper or doing pound of ground beef for tacos. Supplementing with a larger, deeper, skillet would be helpful.

The key to really making them last is to not use metal utensils on the non-stick pans! When gifting this set, I would recommend adding a wooden or plastic utensil set as well. The skillets I threw away would've lasted longer had I never used metal on them since the pots still look nice in the set. And to note; by now, about 4 years later they are not as 'non-stick' as they used to be, but still serve their purpose. I would recommend this as a gift for people who are just starting out, I'm well established now and still have pieces from this set.

Ceramic Marble Coated Cast Aluminium Non Stick Fry Pan 26cm(10 inches)After buying and using the Ceramic Marble Coated Non Stick Cast Aluminium Fry Pan with Lid, 28 cm (11 inches) and using it for a few weeks, I decided to buy this !0-inch pan to replace my old 10 1/4-inch T-Fal. I didn't need a lid as I had a nice standard glass lid I've used for years that fits it. It might even sound crazy, but right off I noticed fried chicken cooked in a KW Marble pan even tastes better when cooked using nothing but the natural oils in the meat. Steaks even taste better and brown better to seal in juices using nothing but the natural fats in them. Even 91% lean hamburger seals up perfectly and cooks in nothing but its own juices, staying juicy, without sticking. The results are final every piece of meat I've cooked in a KW Marble pan with no added grease has tasted better. I have only had to add a teaspoon or so of butter when cooking slabs of fish to help brown it. Oh, and by not adding grease, there is no grease splatter when frying food in this "marble" pan and my arteries won't be clogging up as fast from all the added fats and grease I previously had to use cooking with other pans. Just cook some french fries or fry some sliced potatoes a teaspoon of cooking oil helps them brown, and they never stick to the pan as you turn them over, and they look and taste just as good as if you deep fried them in oil! I'll be needing much less Crisco and butter in the future for my fried foods.

Why buy another KW Marble pan? I wanted the smaller one for easier use cooking bacon and eggs and making corn bread on the stovetop. The KW pans are very light weight (even lighter than my T-Fal), but they have a deeper more desireable flat floor area that is larger than others (except for cast iron pans) perfect for multiple 9-inch bacon strips. I had quickly learned from using the 11-inch pan that these KW Marble pans transfer and hold heat as well and better than cast iron, requiring lower burner temperatures to sear meats with none of the later clean-up of a cast iron pan or the stove top from popping grease. This also means you need less energy to cook with and foods do cook more quickly in these pans. The KW Marble pans also withstand higher temps that no Teflon pan can hold up to without damage. Since the KW Marble pans are coated inside and out, clean-up consists of only using a paper towel to wipe out the grease and using warm soapy water after the pan has cooled. That way no build-up of grease occurs that can't be easily removed and completely unlike Teflon pans that always show grease staining.

The coating on the KW pan? Mine haven't been in use very long, but still look like brand new even on the bottom where they've been slid back and forth on my electric burner eyes. The marble coating is much better than any Teflon product, and it's already apparent it is far superior to any Teflon pan I've ever used. I'm also using medium to medium high heats to start cooking, and having to turn the burners down below medium to keep from burning or overcooking foods too quickly something I like because I'm cooking faster using these Marble pans than I can using a cast iron pan.

My nylon turners can't take the heats of these new KW marble pans they melt in them just trying to flip a burger so I've been using some higher temperature very hard white plastic utensils with these KW pans. They don't melt, but what would normally be left stuck inside a cast iron pan now sticks to these utensils. This has prompted me to buy these Rubbermaid Commercial Products FG1963000000 13 1/2-Inch High Heat Scraper and iSi Basics Silicone 13 Inch Turner, White. This KW Marble cookware is nothing short of amazing. Teflon, it's not even as non-stick as this marble ware is.

The instructions say to initially use a little oil to cure the pan for first use. I use a paper towel to wipe and then wash all the oil from my KW pans, with dish soap and warm water after every use. You just don't need to use any oil cooking with them and I don't need any to build up on them possibly making them less non-stick over time. Notable, but not of much importance the silver metal inlay on the handle is different from the one pictured here and the one on my 11" pan. There are also gold colored specks added in this pan coating along with the light ones, compared to the light ones in my 11" pan. The design on the bottom of this pan, that contacts the burner, is also different from the one on the 11" pan, which simply shows KW odd, since both supposedly come from the same manufacturer and retailer, and the smaller pan has an ACECOOK trademark and Made In Korea on its bottom.

While the Rubber Maid silicone scraper is nice, the iSi Basics Silicone 13 Inch Turner, White was perfect for my use with the new Ceramic Marble pans (the Rubber Maid product is too flexible for most use as a turner, but fine for gravies and other uses).

I purchased these pans on 9/9/2011. In July this year the pans became so useless that I needed to soak them over night to remove what could not be removed with a soft sponge; even then I was using the spatula to try and remove what was still sticking to the pan. I sent an e-mail to MVT and received a response on 09/04/2012 saying that they would response within 24-48 hrs. I am still waiting and no answer as of today 9/13/2012. I am using my old Teflon pans bought in 2006; they still work and can be cleaned with a soft sponge. I would not recommend wasting your money on these pans

I inheirited one ofthese pots and then bought another. Since then I have excused all similarimitations from the kitchen.

If I had to equipt my kitchen with 3cooking pots/pans, this would come right after the skillet and sauce pan.

I have loved the two pieces of LeCreuset that I ordered. I have a glass cooktop (which I curse!) and cookware has to be absolutely flat for good heat transfer. Through the years I have tried various brands (Calphalon, Farberware, etc) and Le Creuset is the best I have ever used. The lid seals tightly, making for an energy efficient design. It has been easy to clean as well and looks great! Ipurchased my first piece in order to bake my favorite no-knead bread recipe: it requires a covered pot to bake it at 450 degrees, and few cookware brands have handles that can withstand that high a temperature. Le Creuset does, and has performed beautifully. It is also great for braising and stewing. Follow directions and do not use the highest heat setting, it is uneccessary and can damage the pot.

This French Oven is just the right size for the two of us.I can fill it halfway for a typical meal, or make a double recipe in order to freeze some for another time.It browns things well, goes easily from stove-top to oven, holds the heat in during long simmering, cleans up quickly with a little soak in warm water, and looks great. I have owned some other products from Le Creuset, and they never disappoint.

I've wanted Le Creuset for 20 years, but could not see spending that much money on a cook pot. Finally, I bought this. I cook a lot of thrifty meals (beans, braising, roasting, soups, stews, chili, and so forth).Everything comes out beautifully, no burned spots, I use lower heat, less liquid, and less time to get even better results than before in my stainless steel pots.

Yes, it's heavy, and yes, you have to hand wash it after use. But like good knives, it's worth the extra trouble and expense for an excellent tool. Would I replace all my cookware with Le Creuset? Absolutely not. For some tasks, I wish I had done it years ago.

But this is my partner's absolutely favorite sautee pan and we have quite a variety of good quality tri-ply and old fashioned cast iron.

The finish and cooking surface are the very definition of German craftsmanship and just a little seasoning goes a long way like the 1st reviewer says it's not "non-stick" and we're happy for that since ALL the non-stick pans are **very** toxic and not a healthy choice -

this is a kind of baked ceramic finish and just the best to cook with and healthy to boot.A piece of cookware that will last for **years** no problem.

In the first Indiana Jones film, Marian whacks a bad guy on the head with a frying pan and he goes down hard (I think he died)...meet that frying pan. Its painted like a sexy Lamborghini and is NOT light. The ceramic coating is NOT Teflon and won't flake off when you decide to boil water in it. I've fried eggs with a little butter (this isn't really non-stick), fried fish sticks, and made Chinese noodles ...all with no problems...and cleaned up the pan with water and a sponge.

The only thing that stuck a little (left a "ghost print" which eventually scrubbed off) were Chinese steamed dumplings. I've got this and the 9.5 inch frying pan and am contemplating the 8 inch model. I live in Germany, so the price isn't so insane! Keep your eyes peeled for Silit Silargan cookware like this...I can't imagine you'll be disappointed!

This is a 8.25 cast iron disk pretty much as shown.It works fine for turning the "simmer" flame on our gas range into a wider heat source that doesn't burn stuff in the pan.Since we do marinara sauce a couple times a month, this is important.Won't work on a flat ceramic cook top.

Decided to write this review as I didn't see any others reviewing this for a ceramic top or induction range.Took a chance and ordered it anyway and am so glad I did. I have an induction hybrid range (2 regular electric + 2 induction electric burners)with a ceramic surface. I needed a diffuser for 2 reasons:to use my tagine and to convert an induction burner for use with non cast-iron cookware. Works great for both. It does have a ridge on the bottom which I think is designed for a gas range but it works fine on my largest burner, which is induction, as well as the regular electric burners, as long as the ridge makes contact with the burner.Does not scratch the cooking surface of my smooth ceramic cooktop. Very happy with my purchase!

Tramontina 80131/003 Gourmet 6-1/2-Quart Cast-Iron Covered Casserole, Vibrant RedThe price can't be beat! $45 with free shipping is a great value regardless of what I write in this review. I was excited to open the box, and loved the color immediately! I continued to be impressed by the weight of the pot. But after completely un packing, I placed the lid on the pot, and looked at my wife and said, this is why a Le Creuset is $245, and this was only $45. The lid does not seal tightly, and you need to rotate the lid to find the position where it seals best, though it's still not 100%, closer to 90%.

Would I buy it again? Probably. Would I have bought it in a store, where the faults were clear before making the decision to purchase? Probably not. I just cannot justify the $200+ dollars for the "real deal".

UPDATE: After using this dutch oven many times for a variety of dishes, I would increase my rating to 4 stars. The initial dissappointment of the ill fitting lid has faded, and what remains is a pot that does its job well and even out on my bakers rack, next to a Le Creuset, holds its own in terms of looks.

I've used Le Creuset for years, but as my family grew, I wanted to get a larger Dutch Oven.I was hesitant in forking over the money for a 7 qt. Le Creuset, but when I saw the 6.5 qt. Tramontina for a fraction of the cost of the Le Creuset, I figured I couldn't lose especially since there was a Lifetime Warranty.I used this Dutch Oven for everything from braises, stews, to bolognese.My only qualm was that the interior would stain which I expected after reading the little manual...no big deal.I noticed that the enamel interior wasn't as thick as the Le Creuset, but I didn't care as long as I can cook with it.I liked the heft of the pot and its heat retention ability.

The fact that you can't use this pot at a setting higher than medium was ridiculous to me, but I complied so that my warranty would not be voided.I seared my meats in a stainless steel pan and then transferred the meat and deglazed the fond into the dutch oven.This was a bit of a pain, but it didn't really bother me that much.

Well, the lack of all the layers of enamel that Le Creuset uses that Tramontina skimps on came to haunt me in what I now regard as an obvious inferior product.The old cliche definitely rings true in this case, "you get what you pay for."After making a pot of beans, I soaked the pot.When I went to hand wash the pot, there were several raised bubbles underneath the layer of enamel.My pot was not chipped on the inside, but there were discolored "veins" that ran on the inside of the pot.These veins were actually cracks that allowed water to get under the thin layer of enamel.This was not cool.This pot is now absolutely useless!I'm afraid of rust problems under the enameled layer and the idea of chunks of enamel cracking into my food is not very appealing.

I contacted Sam's Club and they had someone at Tramontina contact me.They seemed helpful and sent me a return label and promised a replacement after inspecting my dutch oven.I miss having a large Dutch Oven.I'm willing to give the Tramontina another try hoping that maybe my pot just didn't have enough layers of enamel on it and I'm waiting for my replacement pot.If I run into the same problems again, I will write the product off for good and just cough up the $300 for the Le Creuset (which I've owned for 20+ years and have never seen this issue).A year ago, I would have given this product 4/5 stars because of it's excellent value and ability to serve my needs, but with cracks surfacing, I can't recommend this inferior pot.

Update: After over two months, I just received a shipping e-mail confirmation from Tramontina that my pot is going to be shipped back to me.Here's hoping everything pans out and that my problems were a batch quality issue.I'm changing my rating from 1 star to 3 stars because the company stands by their lifetime warranty and is trying to stand by their product.Excellent service from Tramontina makes me feel a bit more confident about this dutch oven.I'll see in a year or so if the pot stands-up to actual use in my kitchen.

Update 01/25/11: I got my pot back at the end of May 2010.They ended up sending me a brand new pot.I actually liked the look of this pot better because it was a solid cherry red color instead of the one red color blending into another deeper red color.I've used this pot a handful of times to make some ragus, marinas, and pot roasts.As expected, I experienced some minor cosmetic staining on the inside which of course is not a big deal.The pot also suffered a chip on its exterior near the handle(I don't know how this happened because I've never dropped the pot) which does not affect its performance and of course is not a big deal.The heat retention is excellent (I'm able to keep a gentle boil at a medium-low heat for my braises).I have not put this pot through the oven yet this time but I don't expect any surprises.

The only "issue" I've noticed after over 6 months of use is that the texture on the bottom of the pot is different than the texture closer to the top.It has a matte feel and look and does not have the gloss of the enamel.I experienced the exact same thing last time with the change in texture and I think because there were dimples in the enamel on the inside (uneven layers of enamel), these became such weak points that it lead to the enamel cracking (this is just my theory, Tramontina never commented).No cracks in the interior of the pot yet for water to seep through and raise concerns about rust.

At this time I don't think the change in texture will affect its performance.I still think it's great that Tramontina will stand by its product so you don't have anything to lose to give this product a try.I'm still leaving the product at 3 stars because of it's great performance ability and its excellent value, but I'm still unsure about the quality of the interior's enamel and how long it will last since I can already see obvious changes.I'll continue to use this pot as long as I don't get any dangerous cracks.

Update 05/27/12: This pot has been put through the works and performs beautifully (average usage is roughly 2-3 times per month).It has been in and out of the oven without any issues.I did have it scorch on me a couple of times because I made thick "bechamel" based soups and forgot about it (left the lid open and too much liquid evaporated), but an overnight soak and a paste of Barkeepers friend or Bon Ami (cleaning detergents similar to Ajax or Comet but not as harsh) cleans the pot right up.The enamel on the inside's bottom is nice and even, but the lustered gloss is definitely gone.As I mentioned before, the bottom is matte now and it has remained that way.The interior's walls are still glossy, only the bottom has lost its gloss.With the lustered gloss, the pot would stick less and be easier to clean.With the matte pot, once the fond or brown bits develop in the pot, they are easily scraped up with a wooden spoon when you deglaze it with wine, chicken stock, water, etc.So I have bumped the rating of this product up to 4 stars because it performs well and is a great pot to have in your kitchen.I can't give the product 5 stars because the interior bottom's gloss doesn't remain which leads to a few minor issues.As long as you use this pot for the appropriate techniques, you'll be quite satisfied in its performance.Definitely do use this pot on lower heats to prevent sticking and scorching.I recommend this pot as a budget friendly alternative to Le Creuset's pot.Both pots are HEAVY, but this is a favorable must for heat retention in making braises, pot roast, stews, etc.As I pointed out, the only issue I see with the Tramontina Cast Iron Enameled Dutch oven is its loss of gloss after usage over time.This does make the pot a bit harder to clean, but its not like you can just wipe the Le Creuset pot clean either.I'm okay with having to use a little extra elbow grease once in awhile if I accidentally scorch this pot.Do expect the matte part to stain more than the glossy part, but stains on the interior of the pot doesn't bother me since it doesn't affect performance.

I bought this pot about a week ago and was amazed at just how sturdy (around 20 pounds in weight!) and versatile it is!I plan to use it to fry chicken on the stove and to bake bread in the oven.This pot was highly recommended by Cooks Illustrated so I feel confident that it's going to work like a charm!Couple things to note...the lid is only good to 400 degrees due to the knob, not 450 like the product description states.I purchased a Le Creuset knob to replace the Tramontina knob, but the screw for the Le Creuset knob is shorter and skinner than the one that comes with this pot so I'll have to get a new screw before I can make the swap.Oh, and you'll have to season this pan before you use it.That was no big deal really...just put a little shortning on the top of the pan where the lid rests and then stick it in the oven for an hour at 350 degrees and you're in business.All in all, I'd say this pan is terrific and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile pan in the kitchen to use on the stove or in the oven.It's a tremendous deal when you compare it to it's cousin, Le Creuset, that costs around $300!!!

I discovered this item in an "America's Test Kitchens" cookbook with recipes for dutch ovens that can be used on stove-top & in ovens. It was recommended as a less pricey alternative to LeCreuset with the same features. Based on other customer's reviews I also purchased the LeCreuset stainless steel replacement knob to replace the plastic one on the Tramontina item (recommended). I had to get a different length & circumfrence bolt (screw) from my local hardware store to adapt but it only cost me 19 cents! This item must be hand washed (no dishwasher)but it's a breeze to clean up no matter what you cook. So far everything I've made in it was fantastic!

This set surprised me. Light weight but they will still blacken a filet when you can't grill it. You may want to make sure you have non metalic tools to protect them but the only scratxh I have managed to put on with my metal tools is on the outside finish. Food slides right out and a quick flick of a sponge gets them clean.

I have this set for my single apartment, I love cooking a lot and I use them daily. T-fal quality don't need any words.

Mix of Stainless Steel pots and Non-stick pans is a great idea. I don't need non-stick pots, or stainless steel pans and this is the set I just wanted.

5.5 Qt Dutch Oven is pretty large if you are single and you don't cook for a family. But if you cook in large sizes for the whole weeks meal like me, it is very useful.

Various sizes of sauce pots are very useful for many jobs. If you need to boil some pasta or veggies for a single meal smallest one is enough. Or you can use larger ones for any other cooking.

Non-stick pans with thermo-spot are great. Set has one small and one considerably large pans. I usually use the smallest one for scrambled eggs, or making a burger, or cooking some chicken. You can use the saucepot lids to cover it. It wont fit perfectly but it will do the job. However there is no lid, for the largest pan, which is bad I think. But I get used to it.

Interior for the pans are non-stick and they are stainless steel on outside. Pots are all stainless steel.

Handles are pretty cheap, they are soft plastic, but I didn't burned my hands so far. They will block the heat, however handles on lids are not that good, and if you dont hold them properly, you might get some burns.

They come with a slotted spatula, and huge cooking spoon, they are stainless steel but pretty big ones.

Bottom paddings are good, they are not cheaply made.

When compared to cheap non-stick ones this set might be expensive, but they are very useful.

I've had my set for a few years now, no loss of non-stick, no peeling of metal.The first set came with a sprung rim on the 2 qt pan, but HSN replaced the whole set for me.All good since then.

I just now found out Ultrex cookware was recalled years ago because it is dangerous.

The coating can separate from the pan and be forcefully propelled from the pan.I had no idea until now.I bought two sets from HSN and they never notified the customers that the product was dangerous.The Ultrex company went out of business as soon as they realized the product was unsafe so that they would not have to cover the lifetime warranty.As usual, HSN claims no responsibility for endangering lives.Furthermore, it is illegal to resell a recalled product.Please do not buy or use this product.

I bought 2 sets of Ultrex cookware and they are still in excellent condition. I do not cook everyday and I do not use high heat. If the company is out of business, I would not recommend anyone buying anything from a company which no longer exists. If people say they had problems, I would pay attention. But like I said, I have had my sets for years, can't even remember how long, but at least seven.The largest fry pans I have used only sparingly, but to date, I would say I got my money's worth.
