Ragalta 12" Electric Skillet Fryer Red

Ragalta 12' Electric Skillet Fryer Redit is only 2inches deep. it looks as if it is as deep as the whole red part and it would have cost me

$19 to send back. it is packed and in my basement.

I purchased this electric skillet, and to my surprise it has been the very best one I used in a long time.I love cooking with it, it heats, and cooks wonderfully fast.I would purchase another if the need arises, and truly would recommend it to all of my friends.Thank you for a wonderful product.I really like the fact that it is shallow, and does not need very much oil when frying. The maintenance is great, and the weigth is very light, it surprised me when I took it out of the box.

Thanks

Daniel

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto Grill

Koolatron 401-596 White 12 volt Auto GrillThe family and I were taking a road trip through New Mexico when I got that sudden and familiar urge: I need ham. I had my wife Laura grab a nice, thick ham steak from the cooler at her feet. She offered to grill it for me, as I was driving at all, but in my family there's only one person that handles the grill, and that is me. My daughter Layla and my son Cody said they wanted hot dogs, so I threw them on the grill too.

Despite having different meat products, the Koolatron was cooking the ham and hot dogs evenly, and there was so much space I could have put another dog on there. I took my ham steak off first and it was really good: the Koolatron allowed the meat to retain much of its moisture and succulence.

Unfortunately, just as I was giving the hot dogs one final turn, I lost control of my vehicle, on I-40 about 30 miles west of Tucumcari. I don't remember much of the accident, just waking up in a hospital bed a few days later. It was then that I learned that Layla and Cody did not survive the crash. Laura was relatively unscathed, with only a broken leg and some broken ribs. I suffered burns over 40% of my body and had internal bleeding.

I got out of the hospital three weeks later. Laura and I decided to sell our home, as it held too many painful memories. It was bad. Laura and I found we couldn't live together, and recently divorced. The loss of the kids had a lot to do with it, but I could also not please her (my genitals had been burned off in the fire). I'm trying to date again, but it's been hard (as mentioned, I have no genitals it's like a Ken doll down there, but with the skin complexion of Freddy Kreuger).

However, once given the doctor's ok to operate a motor vehicle, I purchased another Koolatron and I can tell you that I've been happy with the (non-family destroying) results. Every time I cook something while driving a ham steak, hot dog, burger, etc it come out delicious and juicy. Of course, I'm no dummy and realize that another accident is just around the corner. But at this point, I don't even care anymore. I don't even care anymore.

PROS: lots of room, food retains moisture and doesn't dry out, durable

CONS: subsequent loss of family, genitals

I work for a utility company and I work out in the field. So I spend about $250 a month on lunch usually fast food or at a diner depending on the area I am at. Then I came across this grill. I thought wow I could to save some money using this grill. Got the grill followed the instruction and the hot plates were only warm to the touch. I did not even try to cook with it because it was just not hot enough.

For centuries, man has longed for the ability to cook while driving. With the advent of the Koolatron 401-596 (I can only imagine the countless hours focus groups must have logged to come up with that name), that dream has finally become a reality.

No longer constrained to the physical boundaries of a 'kitchen', or the archaic mores of 'safety', one can finally enjoy the freedom of careening down the highway at 85 mph (please check with your local municipality for the legality of these speeds) while grilling various meat products. And what of the oils from said meat products? Why, the sloped design allows them to just melt away into the (included) drip tray! What could be safer than hot grease in a moving vehicle? Certainly, no one has ever spilled anything liquid in a car before! Safe as milk, it is!

So free yourself from the tyranny of non-mobile cooking today with a Koolatron 401-596.

I brought this for my OTR driver and he loves it. I will cook hot grill cheese sandwiches and grill hot dogs in 5 minutes. He is wanting to try cooking a steak to see how that turns out! I am happy to know that now he can have hot food and healthy eating while out on the road. I do recommend this grill and so does he!

Apparently this product hasn't gotten any better in the three years since the previous gentleman review it. I purchased this for my fiance who is a truck driver. I was hoping this would provide him a way of cooking meat/grilling sandwiches, but it only gets hot enough to melt the butter on the bread. Obviously, it wouldn't get hot enough to cook a piece of raw meat. It's being returned. Very disappointed.

Norpro KRONA Stainless Steel 8 Quart Multi Roaster

Norpro KRONA Stainless Steel 8 Quart Multi RoasterI received this roaster as a housewarming gift by our realtor several years ago.Although I knew it was a very nice gift, I'd never priced it until a friend asked for a recommendation on a roaster for a Thanksgiving turkey.I was really not terribly surprised at the price since I've used the roaster over and over and it still looks brand new, but I did have a renewed gratefulness for the gift! This roaster is very heavy, and with the deep lid, is also extremely versatile.I was a little concerned about food sticking, since I'd been raised using non-stick cookware, however, I was so pleased with the results that I no longer own non-stick cookware at all.Every roast, bird, or casserole I've made in this roaster has turned out beautifully. This is one item in my kitchen that I am certain will be passed down to my grandchildren some day.

I bought this in 2009 and used only during holidays and large gatherings, less than a dozen times in the last 3 years. This last month I noticed a chip through the interior stainless steel at the inside base of the roaster. Very disappointing particularly for the price purchased. It is a nice looking roaster, but it appears, not sturdy enough for the work. I no longer want to use it.

Progressive International Omelet Pan

Progressive International Omelet PanI don't usually respond to these things, but this time I felt that a warning was due: This is truly the worst piece of junk I have bought in some time! The metal is paper-thin, both handles broke, and worst of all, when heated, the metal warped so that the bottom was rounded (Not good on my flat-top range! Yes, I only used medium heat.) This pan went in the trash after the first use! Stay away from this product!

I like the pan alot.So far, the omelettes I have made were the best omelettes I ever had.I used 4 eggs, with green peppers, onions and cheedar cheese.I melted the butter before I put the eggs in the pan, then I put the eggs in each side of the pan, let them cook slowly, added the peppers, onions & cheese, cooked it alittle longer with the pan still open.Once I felt it was almost cooked, I fliped the non handled part over (no eggs leaked at all) and cooked it a little longer making sure everything was cooked and the cheese was melted. I cooked it really slow (on 3 on my electric stove)They came out so fluffy and delcious.I even put it in the dishwasher and used the pan again. The pan survived the dishwasher and still continues to make great omelettes.I just made sure when I put the pan together when I first got it, that I tightened the screws really well.So far no problems.I was surprised reading so many people were unhappy with it.I'm actually buying two more today.

I used to have one with a hinge all along the back... this has two rivets on each edge....so the omlette pieces (and raw egg) will leak or fall out when you fold it closed or flip it.And I think it is supposed to be non-stick...but the metal is so thin, I cooked one omlette (the first one) and it burned in one area in the center and the burn will not come off the pan... back to the thrift stores to find a durable older one I guess.

Oh my gosh...when you get the pan it comes disassembled, so you have to screw the handle together.Well, I used it once and the handle came right off while cooking. Now, the screw is stripped and it can't be put back!I used it only once!Well that was the most expensive omelet I ever had.Aside from the handle, overall it is a very cheap pan and it does not look like it will last very long.I'm going to return this item.

Chef's Secret 5-Ply Stainless-Steel Griddle with Glass Lid

Chef's Secret 5-Ply Stainless-Steel Griddle with Glass LidI bought this griddle to replace a non-stick one that we have owned for years. My husband had heard so many things about the dangers of the chemical coatings entering food that he really wanted us to get rid of all our pots and pans and go to something "safer".

I had to admit that all my "coated" pans had deteriorated and been replaced many times because the coating just does not last....So, we decided to try stainless steel, even though my prior experiences with it years ago had meant sticky surfaces, uneven cooking and hard to clean.

The CHEF'S SECRET is a great, heavy-duty stainless griddle that is actually easy to clean (with a brillo or scrubber) and it cooks even better than the pans I have used in the past, including the non-sticks. You do have to have a good coating before cooking to avoid sticking, but we like olive oil and that seems to work well in addition to being good for you.

It has a nice heft to it and solid construction and I love having a lid available, particularly a glass one to keep an eye on the food.

I HIGHLY recommend this griddle for its abilities, construction and style!

UPDATE 3/2013: We are STILL using this griddle and you would never know to look at it that it isn't brand new. Has obviously held up great!

I'm not a fan of non-stick cookware or aluminum cookware. So the choices for pancakes are limited to stainless steel or cast-iron.I looked into purchasing a cast-iron griddle at a local store. It was a really nice piece. However, I didn't feel confident that I'd have the time to keep the iron "seasoned" to prevent it from rusting.Since this unit was double the price of the cast-iron griddle, I'd been eying it for a while, but hesitant to pull the trigger.Well I finally did.

First thing I noticed when I opened the box, is that this unit is very heavy, and seems well constructed. The instructions say to wash it before using, so I had to wait a day before trying it.I used cooking spray about 2 times for 15+ pancakes. It heats evenly on the stove and I was able to fit 3 pancakes at a time with ease.I was using a 12 inch fry pan before which only allowed one pancake at a time.Cleanup required steel wool, but not much elbow grease.I am definitely pleased with this purchase.

OMG, I have been trying to hold off on righting a review because I appreciate review from people who have really spent some time using the product to find out long term how they hold up.I bought in Jan. 2010 and love it!!! I cannot say enough good about it. Perhaps a little large for some people but that doesn't bother me at all. I cook one person meals on it all the time and like knowing I have room to cook more for company. It never sticks, everything cooks fast and even, clean up is a breeze. Have made eggs, pancakes, chicken, stir fry and grilled cheese on it.It is beautiful, substantial and versatile. Not one complaint. This will last a lifetime and then some. Just what I wanted, something to have and I need never look for another ever.I would give as gift (but if smaller size available that would be more appropriate for some). Love It!!!!!

So, I was tired of making pancakes in my small frying pan where I had to do one at a time...This allows me to make 3 small pancakes (or 2 medium) at a time with a few small sausages cooking to one side. I like that it's all stainless steel and that there's no teflon coating to worry about. Also, it does retain its heat, so once it's hot you can cook the pancakes faster...

The only thing I have to mention is that the original price listed was over $100, and the final price was so discounted to around $35 that it seemed like such a bargain. Well, it's a bit of false advertising. The box it comes in is one of those with infomercial graphics spinning one of those sales pitches like, "MSRP $100....but you get it for only $35!" It's true value is between $30-45, given the prices on similarly priced pots at a discount homeware place in NYC last week.

I received this item and it looked well-made. When I placed it on my glass-top electric range, however, I noticed that it wobbled a bit and as a consequence didn't appear to heat up uniformly. I suppose if you have a gas range this would not be an issue.

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Stainless Steel 8-Inch and 9-1/2-Inch Nonstick Skillet Twin Pack

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Stainless Steel 8-Inch and 9-1/2-Inch Nonstick Skillet Twin PackI have a smooth top range, and you aren't supposed to we anything but stainless steel bottomed pans on it. These have a layer of copper wedged between stainless on the bottoms, and a nice nonstick coating. They are somewhat bowl shaped, rather than a flatter omelet styled pan, and lids would be useful, but they make great eggs, chops, steaks, and so on, and I pop them right other dishwasher. Easy-peasy!

()This pair of stainless pans has the durable Autograph 2 non-stick coating, but in a stainless steel pan. I have experience with this coating as I already own an Anolon Advanced Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Inch Skillet with the Autograph 2 non-stick coating and it has served me well for a year and has survived one serious incident of over-heating.

With so many Analon pans out there, it can be confusing to know the differences. This particular set of pans--Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized--is suitable for any type of stove top, including induction. It is a stainless steel pan with a heavy bottom with multiple layers including a visible copper core, but with a final coating of magnetized stainless steel so that it can be used on an induction cooktop. The interior is coated with the Autograph 2 non-stick coating. It is very attractive and, according to the manufacturer, is over safe to 500 degrees. As a non-stick fry pan it is superb--the best I have ever used.

In contrast the Anolon advanced skillet is thicker because it is made of cast aluminum. It is over safe to 375 degrees. The interior and exterior are coated with the Autograph 2 non-stick coating which means the exterior of the pan cleans up as easily as the interior. It is not suitable for an induction cooktop, but is a decent pan.

Currently, this Anolon Nouvelle set of skillets is quite expensive, though of excellent quality. If you don't have to have the magnetized stainless of these beautiful pans for an induction stove top, you may want to consider the currently more affordable cast aluminum Anolon Advanced pans, as they both have the same quality non-stick coating. However, now that I have used this set of Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized pans, I would save up and get the more expensive pans. They are of excellent quality.

Buy Anolon Nouvelle Copper Stainless Steel 8-Inch and 9-1/2-Inch Nonstick Skillet Twin Pack Now

()It will be a while before I arrive at a firm opinion regarding this skillet twin pack because at first blush they seem a little alien to me. I have Circulon anodized aluminum non-stick cookware which I swear by and I also have the core set of Anolon Nouvelle Copper Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set that these pans supplement (I guess).I couldn't find a comparable full set of Teflon coated Nouvelle Copper Stainless Steel pans in this series on the manufacturer's website.

I really like the aesthetics of the Nouvelle set, I don't have any concerns with stickiness with stainless steel in general, so I'm not certain where these skillets fit into the scheme, sort of the metaphorical eccentric aunt and uncle hidden in the basement (or under counter cabinet as it were) while the rest of the family celebrates in the open air of the kitchen rack. With the interior Teflon Autograph 2 coating, these skillets just look weird.

At eight and nine ½ inches, the two pans are good for smaller needs like sautéing and single servings but I prefer the stainless steel pans for searing and the like anyway. We have also experienced some tarnishing of the copper rings of the core set; I expect the same thing will occur with these units over time even though we seldom cook anything at higher temperatures because heat distribution is outstanding with the other pots and pans in this cookware family. These pans seem to be consistent in that regard. The skillets are sturdy, weight balanced with riveted stainless steel handles however lids are not included. If you happen to have the core Nouvelle set, the lids from that set can be used with these skillets.

According to Meyer Corporation the skillets are suitable for all surfaces,oven/broiler safe to 500 degrees, dishwasher safe and safe for use with metal utensils. As a practice, I have not used any of my Teflon bonded pans (Circulon primarily) under broiler conditions and I don't intend to subject these pans to that temperature level either. We avoid dishwasher cleansing as well and in the case of anodized cookware it is generally not recommended anyway. I know, these are stainless steel but I have encountered outer spotting and Teflon discoloration with some less expensive pieces so I would rather wash by hand. I'm sorry, using metal utensils with Teflon coatings is simply counter-intuitive for me so that's not going to happen either.

Thus, I rate these skillets at four stars based on anticipated performance (tarnishing and copper ring wear) and the mere fact, I don't like the way they look compared to the non-coated full set.

Meyer also manufactures Circulon, KitchenAid, Farberware, Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Prestige, Bonjour, Earth Pan, SilverStone as well as other brands not typically available in the U.S.

()These pans are a bit hard to handle due to their weight, especially the 9.5" pan.For some people, it could be hard to hold with one hand.Don't get me wrong, I'm a healthy and strong guy, but I could see a seasoned citizen or someone without a lot of strength, having difficulty with the heft of these pans.

Omelets cooked very nicely and food slips off quite easily without sticking.I don't think food would stick even if I tried to make it do so.The non-stick properties are quite good.

Overall, excellent quality.Somewhat slow to heat and maintain heat due to it's thickness, but it also retains heat long after you've turned off the burner. They do conduct heat very well once properly heated.

These pans are very nice quality with terrific non-stick properties. They are well-made and have a limited lifetime warranty. However, do be aware that the weight of the pans could be a problem for some.5 stars.

Non Stick pans? No, I don't think so.Some difficulty with the "non-stick" as they have aged.Note that the care instructions have been followed to the letter, and no metal allowed on the cooking surface.Pots are better in the category of "non-stick,"but not top notch.Next time I will go for the higher quality sets.

After one use, teflon coating is chipping off.I did not use metal utensils or abrasive sponge for cleaning, despite the fact that Farberware states the cooking surface is safe for all utensils.I am extremely disappointed in the quality of these pots, I sure expected more from Farberware, considering I spent over $100 on this set.I do not recommend anyone purchase them.

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Inch and 10-Inch Open Skillets Twin Pack

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick 8-Inch and 10-Inch Open Skillets Twin PackThis two-pack is a great bargain. The skillets cook very well, and look better in person than they do in the photos. They have nicely attached handles, copper detailing on the bottom disc, and so forth -details that I would expect to find only in 10" skillets of $80 or so. Having two for less than $50 is excellent.

I've used the 10" a few times a week for several months and it still looks brand new. It cleans up perfectly with soap and water on both the cooking surface and the outside. I cook on a DCS gas cooktop, and the pans cook very evenly and are able to brown things nicely (with a bit of added oil). The surfaces seem to be just as good as on the first day.

Two notes that bear repeating for non-stick cookware: clean by hand, not in a dishwasher; and never, ever overheat them -use low to medium heat, never heat them when empty, and always add at least a few drops of oil so you'll be able to brown and have a warning sign (smoke) if overheated.

Cheers!

I purchased the Nouvelle Copper Anodized 8and 10-inch set from Macy's when it was on sale for something like $35 with a coupon. This series is coated with Dupont Autograph 2, which is Dupont's top of the line, most durable, nonstick coating. Is it toxic like Teflon? Well, it's listed in the same section of the Dupont website as Teflon, so it probably contains many of the same toxic chemical components. In fact, I can't tell if Autograph 2 is a product within the Teflon series from their website.

Anolon claims that these pans are oven safe to 500 degrees, which was a selling point for me. Most other nonsticks top out at 400 or 450 degrees. I figure the higher the temperature it can withstand, the less likely it'll melt or release toxic fumes during normal cooking.

These pans are heavy. Not cast-iron heavy, but certainly the heaviest non-stick pans I've ever owned. This is due to the thick bottom, which does result in longer preheating times (despite the copper), but ensures even heating across the bottom (no hot-spots, less burning).

The 8 inch pan, which I use most, is still fairly non-stick after a year and a half. The 10 inch pan has lost it's non-stick ability entirely. Eggs and fish stick to it as if it were unseasoned cast iron (OK, maybe not *that* bad).

I've taken good care of these pans, ensuring that I never heated above medium, used only wooden or silicon utensils, always allowed to cool before cleaning, and always hand washing with a non abrasive detergent and non abrasive sponge. But still, the 10 incher has failed. I should state that I do cook quite a bit, and these pans have gotten quite a bit of use. And they lasted as long as most of my other recent nonsticks have lasted. Well, at least the 10 inch did. As I already mentioned, the 8 inch is still decent. I give it another year tops before I have to replace that as well.

I just might take advantage of Anolon's lifetime warranty. I'm not sure it's worth it though, as I'll have to pay the shipping fees to send the pan to Anolon. And for all I know, they might not even honor the warranty after I send it...

EDIT:

Another selling point for me was that fact that these were manufactured in Thailand. Just about every other nonstick pan I've seen is made in China. China is perfectly capable of good manufacturing, but often quality control sucks (depending on the brand). Add to that various other factors and I'll gladly choose a pan made in Thailand. However, the recent floods crippled their manufacturing infrastructure, so maybe these will be made in China now.

On a side note, it would be so nice if Amazon listed the country of origin of the products they sell...

These are flat bottom, and work well with our glass topped electric stove.I can't comment on durability, because I haven't had them very long. They are well built, have a great non stick coating, strong handles that stay cool, and cook very evenly on my electric stove. The paperwork (or box, don't recall) say it's okay to use metal utensils with it.

Although I can throw a meal together, or follow a recipe, I'm no home-gourmet cook.My observation is that these take a little longer to heat through then the old cheap pans I used to have.Since there is a copper layer in the pan, I assumed it would heat faster. But they are thicker and heavier then the cheapos, so I guess that's what makes the difference. This is NOT a problem by any stretch.

I recently bought the 12 inch skillet, they all cook great.I wanted lids for the pans, and found that the glass lids from the Anolon "Advanced" cookware line fit very well, and look great. But as far as I can see, you can only buy a 10-12 inch set of lids. Not individually, and not for the 8 inch.Anolon Advanced Glass Lids 10-Inch and 12-Inch Glass Lids Twin Pack

* Reasonably durable non-stick coating.

* Inexpensive to replace when worn out (which usually mandates aluminum rather than stainless)

By these 4 criteria, the few winware pans I've handled are servicable.

My chief nits with this line are as follows:

1) They're made in China, rather than the USA.Granted that this is a bit of a sweeping generalization, but from my experience American made products are often a bit higher in quality than their Chinese counterparts. For the same price range, I'd rather buy Eagleware (American), over Winco/Winware (Chinese).

2) In order to keep costs down, this line is all aluminum ... which renders the pans useless for induction cooking. Then again, that's true of a lot of pans in this price range, and most restaurants don't use induction, so it's a non-factor ... except for well to do home cooks.Ya get what ya pay for in non-stick pans.

3) On a specific pan-size note, I have a nit with the 8" pan.The chief purpose of an 8" NS all aluminum pan is making individual omlets, and (without going into too much detail about why) that's about it.Unfortunately, this particular pan is less than ideal for omlets, because the sides have too shallow a slope ... the 8" pan has the same slope as the 14" pan, so losing a full 2" of diameter only leaves the interior diameter of the bottom a somewhat meager 6", which is a bit tight for a classic omlet.

Bottom line this is a serviceable, if unspectacular, inexpensive line of NS Aluminum saute pans. And yes, they are commercial grade ... which isn't really saying much if you're familar with such.In true restaurant fashion, they're meant to be beaten on, and replaced regularly when worn out.

highly recommend.compare pricesit's a great price.it's durable and sturdy.I've been using it everyday since purchased.just need to wipe with damp paper towel to clean.

I have used this brand before and am very satisfied with their products. This 12 in fry pan more than met my expectations and the price (even with shipping) was significantly less than my local store.

Update International AFX-14H Eclipse Coated Aluminum Fry Pan with Molded Handle, 14-Inch

Update International AFX-14H Eclipse Coated Aluminum Fry Pan with Molded Handle, 14-InchSomehow I didn't realize how big a 14" pan would be. It's actually about 14.5" from edge to edge. The handle is another 11.5", making it hard to fit into a cupboard (I've settled for leaving it on top of the microwave). It's very heavy so heavy it's awkward to lift with one hand. The heavy base makes for pretty even heat distribution, better than I expected for an aluminum pan.

The non-stick finish is fantastic so far. It's great to have a large non-stick pan for big stir-fries, or for cooking four pancakes at once.

Bene Casa pans are not balanced and will not set on the eye level, this causes hot and cold spots, the handles hold water when washed the leak when you use them. Buy quality not this crap!

CAT CORA by Starfrit Hard Anodized Fry Pan

CAT CORA by Starfrit Hard Anodized Fry Pan, 10-InchI think I'll be giving this away to one of the kids.Used it tonite to fry up a couple of burgers and I'll tell you, it took me quite a while and not a little elbow grease to clean it using a nylon scouring pad.Really expected easier clean-up. It does sit evenly on my rangetop (ceramic).

Found this little skillet to be quite the easy cooker. Very even heat distributin and even cooking with no significant spattering due to hot spots (4 hamburger patties). The cooking surface is slick to the touch and cleaned easily with mild dish soap and wiped dry. Buy this skillet and you will be pleased. We will buy the 12"and a covered pan soon.

I got two pans, one larger than the other. I'm a good cook and use proper techniques, however these pans are very difficult to clean. I was hoping these would last a while, but it's easier to clean up when I use my cast iron pans rather than these.

Cooks evenly but clean up is impossible! I have several other Cat Cora products and love them...but this one is disappointing. Buyer beware!

Lodge Logic L6CO3 Camp Dutch Oven, 1-Quart

Lodge Logic L6CO3 Camp Dutch Oven, 1-QuartTo understand the handle on the lid you need to know the history of this pot.Lodge used to make a 5" size. They discontinued that size and the prices on auction sites went insane. The president of Lodge claimed they could not be made on their new production equipment. Then my 5" lid went missing.I was on a mission to replace it.I read a post about some unique Lodge products that were only made for Japan. That sent me on a surfing trip to Japanese Dutch Oven sites.I could not read a single character but I found the picture of what I sought a 5" Lodge Dutch Oven.A long and language challenged correspondence followed resulting in me securing my goal.It was a challenge but Lodge had managed to produce 2000 for the Japanese market. This while telling fans and customers in the USA it was impossible. When the fans in the US found out that they had not exactly been told the truth they were not happy.A short time later Lodge announce the 6" model which is easier to cast on their machinery.

It is still too small for a proper handle on the lid so it just has a tab. Many people drill a hole in the tab and add a split ring so that the lid will work with a lid lifter.Fire gloves and fencing pliers also work to handle a hot lid.

I bought this to take on solo camping trips, especially motorcycle camping. I have a larger dutch oven but it just isn't worth bringing when I'm cooking for myself. I also bring it along with my larger oven when camping with others.

It fits my needs perfectly.

I have cooked breads/biscuits, stews, meat, shepherd pie/pot pies, frittata/spanish tortilla, and more over charcoals and even wood fires. I carry a small can of spray oil and use a pair of welding/utility gloves (handy to have along anyway). It is fully capable of baking a tiny but perfectly browned and tasty hamburger-bun sized loaf of bread or just about anything you can do in a larger dutch oven. Cleans up easily (assuming you know how to cook with cast iron). It can also come in handy for heating up sauces or side dishes on the grill or in an oven at home. There is a learning curve with any dutch oven but that's part of the fun.

As far as I know there is simply nothing on the market to compete with this. If you want a small cast iron dutch oven (and don't want to build it yourself) this is your choice. Fortunately it's a viable choice.

I recommend drilling a hole in the lid tab. You can use pliers but it took me less than 5 minutes with a cordless drill. I sized the hole to match a meat flipper I also bring along when camping, but you could also fit it to a tent peg or similar.

This is my first Amazon review in over 15 years ordering from AMZ.I am very enthusiastic about this product.

This is a great product! If you go camping by yourself, with someone else, with four people this is great!Generally DO cooking assumes that you are cooking for a crowd. This does not.You don't need many coals (hope you have a chimney), and you won't have any leftovers. With a 12" DO and the 1 quart here you can cook an entree and cornbread or a cobbler.First time out (two of us) we cooked stuffed peppers and then while we were eating the peppers, we cooked a jalapeno cheese cornbread. This shouldn't be your first DO purchase (12"/8 quartshould be first) but it should definitely be your second.Criticisms re no hole in the handle are valid.I am still lifting my lid with the pliers on my multitool.I may end up drilling a hole in the tab handle on top, but my sog pliers are fine.

I have cooked cornbread (for five), a cobbler (for five), a mtn man breakfast (for four), and stuffed peppers (three) in this DO.It is great for any small camping trip.

Highly recommended.Plus it is cute.

The ONLY drawback is there is no hole in the lid for a lid lifter.5 minutes with a cordless drill and a 5/16 bit did that job (cast iron is very soft, but brittle).Other than that, it is perfect for baking for one or two!

Lodge products never disappoint. This size is fairly new to Lodge but is the perfect size for my husband and I for either a meal or dessert while camping. I love that the cookware comes pre-seasoned. The lid fits nicely and the legs are even and strong; and excellent product.
