BergHOFF Virgo 10-Inch Covered Deep Skillet, 3.1-QuartI originally bought this pan to replace another Berghoff 10" deep skillet that I had used for years and it was finally loosing some of it's non-stick covering.However, now that I'm using this new skillet I find that it is more of an upgrade than a replacement.I love the new ceramic non-stick interior.Nothing sticks and yet no Teflon!The lid holders on either side are an ingenious addition as are the built in strainer holes.Plus I love the bright vibrant color.Now if I could only figure out just how to remove the handle so I can put it in the oven...



I was hesitant to order this skillet as it was expensive but I was so desperate for a good heavy non stick skillet that I took a chance.And I'm so glad I did.It cooks very evenly and washing up is a dream.I simply wipe it with a paper towel and swish it in warm soapy dishwater and wallah!It's clean.I have a solid service cook top and it's heavenly to have a skillet that sits solid on it. I would order every piece that BergHOFF manufactures if I could afford it.The younger generation may not like washing it by hand but that's very little inconvenience for the beauty of the pan.

A truly versatile pan! You can even cook pasta in it and drain water through provided strainer holes in the lid. The handle is removable you just twist the end of it and slide up or down, so you could bake something in it the oven. Ceramic non stick surface works perfectly, omelets just slide right out. This pan is made out of thick aluminum, so it's very light weight and makes a serious competition to cast iron pans that I used before.

I really like the skillet. Definitely nonstick. I used it for the second time today. Wasn't paying attention and food got burnt but it didn't stick at all. Slid off pan super easy. No damage to cooking surface. Propping up cover on handle was a great idea. However, as I was washing it, I noticed that the handle that props up cover was broken. Disappointed in an otherwise great product. Attempted to contact berghoff today for replacement. Let's see if they honor their 5 year warranty.

Poor product Poor customer service Would not buy again for half the price

Warning: First time reviewer here, but I use the reviews of products exclusively on whether or not to purchase products on amazon.com. I do not want any other users to go through the same poor customer service I did only to gain nothing.

I have purchased a set of Berghoff Scala Ceramic coated frying pans. I used the main 12" pan for about a month. As time progresses the pan started to stick. I contacted the customer service dept. that told me to deep clean the pan with baking soda and water. After it was dry add oil to the pan while slowly reheating it.I did this several times to cure my pan as suggested by the customer service rep. He assured me that it would take some time for this to work. This took place over 4 months after purchasing the set.I then got preoccupied when moving into my renovated kitchen. After dealing with my renovation I found the pan again. It was now 12 months since purchase.I had a new representative that made it sound like the guy I was speaking to previously did a poor job and was let go, which he was very rude. She stated they needed to find my files and reopen the review of my pan.She advised me to send the pan in so the warranty dept. could look at the pan. I had to pay shipping both ways but I figured they would at least get my pan back into good condition.Berghoff never called or emailed that they had my pan even though I sent a letter with the pan. After waiting a month I decided to email and see if they received the pan. The last customer service rep I had was now gone and I had a new one again. She had to find the pan again and pull up the files. After a reply from the newest customer service rep she stated that my pan was not covered under warranty.WHAT?

She explained that due to the color of the bottom of the pan I had overheated the pan and that the warranty was now void. I the dirt she cleaned on the bottom of my pan was on all our pans we had. We have a glass top range that we cool all our meals on. It does get dirty at times. I simply took a nylon scrubber to clean one of the other pans I had just to see how hard it was.I emailed back stating that her suggestion was not the case and that I wanted to speak to a supervisor.Three weeks later still no response.I called and was directed to the same person I was dealing with my emails.She said she brought the pan to her supervisor and stated that she agreed while refusing to allow me to speak to her supervisor.

The facts: Not once did I ever cook with the pan over ½ heat on my range top. I primarily cooked eggs, sausage, warmed up veggies, and cooked some fish. Mind you that I only used the pan 1 month.I hand washed it after every use. At first everything would slide out of the pan. The pan got to the point where I had to scrape it each time after use and then let it sit in soap water. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AFTER 1 MONTH OF USE!

Due to the numerous customer service representatives, poor service, and average pans I would never recommend anyone buy from this company. They did offer me a deal though, 50% off their retail of a new pan.That was almost the same price I could buy it off of amazon.com.

Cuisinart GW22-30H Greenware Aluminum Eco-Friendly Nonstick 12-Inch Skillet with Helper HandleI used the 12" Cuisinart Greenware skillet (GW22-30H) for approximately 6 months with reasonable satisfaction. The coating was not as "nonstick" as other pans that I have used, as it was not easy to get eggs to slide around on the surface even upon the very first use. Liberal use of cooking spray, butter, or oil is required with this pan. However, this is not what warranted the single-star rating.

After 6 months of cooking with it over a gas range, the pan was still pristine,* and I moved to a new apartment with an electric-coil-type stove. I added water to the pan (~1"), turned on the heat, and added 5 sausage links. After cooking (at a low boil) and cleaning the pan, a circle was clearly visible where the nonstick coating had been completely destroyed/removed -the circle corresponding to the location of the electric coil underneath. In addition, discoloring in the locations where the 5 sausage links had cooked were also visible. This baffled me, because the water and meat should have absorbed the heat of the pan rapidly enough to prevent damage to the surface.

Prior to this incident, drying the pan was a cinch; the water simply beaded up and slid off of the nonstick surface with ease. Now, the water "wets" the surface inside the damaged circular region, and beads up outside of it where the nonstick coating remains intact.

The skillet is now completely useless. Worst of all, I probably ingested a great deal of the plastic coating. I am currently awaiting a response to see if I can get in-store credit for this $80 skillet. I would not want a free replacement.

* The pan had only ever been hand-washed with a soft sponge (never scrubbed), it was never heated without food on it to absorb the heat, and to my knowledge no metal has ever contacted the nonstick surface, even in the sink or drying rack.

I recently purchased this pan as a replacement for a heavier version of the same pan I owned and loved (which a guest used a scouring pad on and ruined). I have used it a month, and the pan's bottom has warped badly. I do not use it on high heat -a notch above medium is as hot as it gets. Still it is so warped now that it rocks on the stovetop, and therefore does not cook food evenly.

so we've been experimenting with stir fry at home and have uses this skillet with ease. a little easoning with sauted onions and lots of portobello mushrooms with chicken breasts come out great. the skillet heats pretty evenly and the helper handle comes in handy. it also feels good to buy cuisinart greenware products as we do make a lot of effort at home to be as green as possible.

The no-stick surface seems to be wearing nicely. I only use wooden or silicon utensil with it. However, the pan warped after the first use on higher heat. On a gas range this is no big deal, but on a ceramic or other electric range, it makes the pan perform poorly since heat transfer is no good.

I've had this for maybe a couple of months, and so far, i totally love it. I use it almost every day. My mom has had one for awhile, she loves hers and told me to get one. Nothing sticks so far. I am being very careful with it and washing it carefully and not scrubbing or anything. I am treating it gentle and keeping it clean. I have to remember to turn the burner down. I think that's important. My electric stove is crap (very disappointing for a Kenmore), and I have to always turn it on high at first or it will never heat up. then I turn it down. I have cooked eggs, hamburgers, salmon patties, mass quantities of veggie stir fry and fried rice, sauteed chicken tenders, tilapia,delicious fried onions, french toast, grilled cheese, and matzo brei. I didn't get a lid for it. I use a cookie pan for a lid. works fine. I like it ALOT. so far so good.

Wolfgang Puck 12' Covered Non-Stick Everything PanI was actually looking for a reasonably priced pan in the 14" size before coming to the conclusion that 12" was as large as I was going to find if I wanted an included glass lid. Not being familiar with Wolfgang Puck cookware, I went to a store to "put my hands on it". This pan was sold out but I was able to look at other Puck items and they all seemed to be well made and well designed. The prices in the store made buying on line a much better deal.

Shipping was more than reasonable free and the pan arrived within a few days of ordering.

I skimmed through the paperwork and noted the key points.

The pan has a clad bottom and heats very evenly. I have noticed that it does not require as high a heat setting as my other pans. It does take a few minutes to come up to temperature; paperwork says to pre-heat. The non-stick surface seems to be very durable and is quite easy to clean but I have noticed that it is getting worn on the very upper rolled edge of the pan. This is a minor disappointment that has no effect on the function of the pan but I could not give the pan five stars because of this issue.

On to the handles...

Obviously the pan is different in that instead of having one long handle it has two man hand sized handles on either side. Though I keep pot holders handy I have yet to find a heat setting that requires them. This design does take some getting use to. Your hand is turned slightly different when steadying the pan wile turning food. You have to use two hands to move the pan a distance. This actually seems to be safer and less awkward than moving the one long handle style pan. I have found that the weight in the pan is balanced so I can't really call having to use two hands a draw back. This pan is much simpler to store than my one handle pans and always stores flat. The glass lid protects the nonstick surface if stacked.

Over all I am very pleased with the performance of the pan. I am also pleased with the entire purchase experience and feel like the value for my dollar is good.

At first this pan was great, I used it for everything. I always hand washed it & never used metal cooking utensils. I purchased this item on 03/01/2011 it is now 02/16/2012 & I can no longer use this pan because the non stick finish is peeling so badly.I recently purchased a new pan to replace this one & it is not wolf gang puck. I was trying to find out if there is a warranty on this pan but haven't found any information yet. Great pan until it started peeling.

When they called this the "Everything Pan" they weren't kidding. I keep it on top of my induction cooktop, ready to make anything at a moment's notice: Breakfast omelet, scrambled hamburger and onions for lunch, pork chops and sauerkraut for dinner. Have used this several times...it is replacing 2 other pans of the same size that I've worn out.It works well for everything from eggs in the morning to dinner in the evening and works well if you are serving company buffet style.It cleaned up in a breeze!!!My only issue is that has alread developed a scratch in the coating... If you have have never had a pan like this I'm sure you will find it as useful as I have...I could almost never put it away and just leave it on my black glass cooktop as it looks so nice. The price was nice also.

Bodum Electric Indoor Table Grill and Griddle, Green ()The distinguishing feature of this unit, the Bodum Bistro 11133 electric table grill, is that the big plate that heats up is smooth on one side and "ribbed" on the other.The smooth, or griddle, side is for items such as eggs and pancakes and hash browns, whereas the the ribbed, or grill, side is for, say, burgers or steaks or chops, where you want to sear in those pretty and ever-flavorful grill marks that result from the ever-wonderful Maillard Reaction.You choose which side to use by simply flipping the plate over.It's designed so you can't flip it without unplugging the controller.Also, there's a simple mechanical device that prevents you from using the device unless the drip tray is installed.

Both sides of the plate are covered in a non-stick coating, and both sides measure 14-5/8 inches by 9-1/8 inches, or 133.45 square inches, which is on the small side if you're cooking for six.A similar product I own, made by Presto, measures 14-1/4 by 18-3/4, or 267.19 square inches, or, as near as matters, 100% bigger.

The outside dimensions of the Bodum 11133 are 20 inches by 12-5/16 by 3-1/8.The housing sports four rubber feet that have a gratifyingly high coefficient of friction relative to Formica.The grill plate is substantial, weighing in at 5 pounds 11 ounces when you add in the weight of the handles and their hardware.Those handles do a fine job; even when the plate is at its highest heat the handles are room-temp to the touch.

The two-sided grill plate itself is dishwasher safe, but the drip tray, which of course got gunky after I fried bacon and skinned the grill, according to the instructions "must be washed by hand."It's a stamped sheet of what I'm guessing is aluminum, and I can't quite figure out what would happen if you put it in the dishwasher anyway.

The package comes with a scraper which you use to scrape detritus to the far left side (there's noplace else to scrape to) and into 14 drain holes that drop grease and crud onto the drip tray.Those 14 drain holes are quite small, approximately 1/8 inch by 1/4 inch, and they can clog up easily, which I think is a design defect.The scraper can be used to poke ino the drain holes to unclog them, but it's tedious.

That nylon, non-heat-proof scraper is also designed in such a way that it is impossible, when you're using the grill side of the plate, to scrape up against the near and far edges, which are the two long ones.You can see what I mean by finding the photograph I added to this product's description on Amazon that shows the scraper in position as far left as it will go.Again, I think this is a design defect.On the griddle side of the plate the other side of the scraper, which is straight, does get right up against the edges.

The instruction manual is light on details, such as almost all of the ones I provided above.Except for knowing you can put the plate in the dishwasher and that you can't put the drip tray therein (which seems backwards to me), the manual contains no information you need.

Oddly, nowhere does it say not to use metal tools on the two non-stick surfaces.I don't know about you, but I'm not about to start skinning a non-stick grill with a sharp steel scraper even if the manual doesn't warn me not to.If the coating really is designed to be impervious to the sort of scraping a cast-iron griddle can tolerate for decades then I'm surprised the manufacturer doesn't brag on that remarkable fact.If it is not designed to abide such rough treatment I'm surprised the manual doesn't admit it and warn against it.

And it's not like the manual fails to warn against the obvious.For instance, it does warn against using the grill to light charcoal, and elsewhere it does say, "You will achieve the best results if you use meat of . . . good quality."That's like saying, "You will enjoy your three-week cruise more if you choose a luxury ocean liner and not a rowboat" or "You will achieve the best results if you choose a surgeon for your appendectomy and not a seamstress."

Here's the most disappointing feature of this particular example of an electric griddle.At one point the manual says, "Set the desired temperature."That's all it says.You might think it would say, "Set the temperature to 375 for pancakes" or "Set the temperature to medium for scrambled eggs" or "Set the temperature to 9 for searing a Kobe steak."But there's a reason the manual does not get that specific about temperatures.The reason is that that dial you turn to set the temperature has no useful marks on it.There is only a semi-circular swoosh like the Nike swoosh that tapers from skinny near where it says "OFF" to wide for the highest setting.

I don't understand this design decision.

The Presto griddle I mentioned shows actual numerical temperatures in degrees on the dial, from Warm and then 200 through 400 in 50-degree increments, including the ever-popular 350.A similar type of product I own, a GE electric skillet (higher sides, no drainage, and a lid), shows on its dial Warm, Simmer and then 300 through 450 degrees, also in 50-degree increments.

And even if those two products' temperature numbers are inaccurate, at least they can be used as a substitute for the numbers 1 through 9 that we're used to on stoves.But a swoosh is almost completely useless, especially when there are no obvious noon or three-o'clock or six-o'clock or 9-o'clock positions.If you have learned through experimentation (you do experiment when you're cooking, don't you?) that slider-sized hamburgers should be cooked at 400, or even if all you know is that they should be cooked at number 7, you can use that information to dial in that temperature every time.But with a swoosh you have to guess every time.Take a look at the photograph I took, on the Amazon page desribing the product, to see what I mean.

As a service to anyone who buys this product, as well as a service to me henceforth, I conducted some tests at two temperature settings, the minimum and the maximum.For the minimum I set the dial to the skinniest end of the swoosh, as shown in that photo.For the maximum obviously I cranked it all the way up.In both cases the room temperature was around 71 degrees Fahrenheit.All I did was record the temperature of the surface of the griddle at one-minute intervals, using an infrared thermometer.I also recorded when the indicator light turned off (meaning the thermostat thought it had risen above the right temperature) and back on (meaning the thermostat thought it had dropped below the right temperature).

Set at the minimum, the recorded temperature rose from room temp of 72.1 degrees to 170 degrees in one minute.The light went off 30 seconds later, at a temperature of 175.The griddle's plate's temp rose to 190 at 2:00 and peaked at 203 at 3:00.Thereafter it dropped at a slightly falling rate of 92 degrees in 21 minutes, or approximately 4.38 degrees per minute, till it dropped to 109 at the 24th minute.At 24:30 the thermostat finally turned back on, and the temp had risen to 130 by 25:00.This is a temperature range from 203 to 109, or 94 degrees, before the thermostat kicks back on again.

Set to the maximum, the recorded temperatures rose from 70 to 96 in 30 seconds, reached a maximum of 515 by 7:00, and ended up at 379 degrees at 31:00.Here is a table showing certain temperatures over that period of 31 minutes:

I don't expect you to analyze all these data, so let me do it for you.

Set at its maximum heat, the griddle rises from room temp to 515 degrees Fahrenheit within 8 minutes but never gets anywhere close after that initial peak.The maximum temp it reaches thereafter is 440 degrees at around 11:30, and thereafter it bounces from a one-time high of 430 degrees down to a low of 375.The average temp at this maximum setting hovers roughly at 400 degrees.

And remember that all these temp data were measured with no food on the grill.Obviously if you slap a slab of 50-degree or even 70-degree hash browns on that grill, the temp is going to decrease considerably.When you drop a couple of room-temp T-bones on it, as I did tonight, I can tell you that the temp drops too much; the sizzle that indicates searing went away too soon, and it was worse when I did the first flip.Next time I'll preheat for 8 minutes (the manual says 4 to 6) before dropping the meat, because that appears to be when it's the hottest it will ever be.

This Bodum Bistro 11133 electric grill is sturdily built, and it does offer both griddle and grill.But it falls down in most areas compared to my Presto.

If you have twice as much acreage you can cook more food, obviously, but you can also more easily flip your burgers or your wursts or your emu breasts onto a fresh sector of the grill, which will be hotter.The Presto and similar products let you skin the grill by simply sweeping the cruddy grease towards you and into a moat below the near edge; the Bodum forces you to sweep crud into little, hard-to-clean holes.The Presto, and pretty much every other such product, I'd guess, have numbers on the dial instead of a featureless swoosh; one option if you buy this product is to go ahead and make four or five marks on the Bodum's dial yourself, maybe with a china marker or a silver Sharpie or a carefully wielded bayonet.

The Presto, which I got a couple years back, cost about $30.The only significant advantage the Bodum 11133 offers is the grill on the other side of the griddle, and even then you can't have both at the same time, which you can if you substitute for the grill side a product such as a grill pan that you simply heat up on the stove, and which you can also put in the oven.(I've found the Calphalon 12-inch grill pan Calphalon Professional Nonstick 12-Inch Round Grill Pan satisfactory.)

And you can buy several Prestos for the price of one of these Bodums.



()This was a tough review to write.On the one hand, my Mom LOVED this grill.On the other hand, it is WAY over priced for what you get, at retail, or even with Amazon's discount.

The idea is great: an indoor grill that has a griddle on one side and a traditional grooved grill on the other.And, it is incredibly easy to switch between the two plates.You quite literally lift and flip (see my pictures).The grill plate cannot be flipped while plugged in, which decreases the chance of trying to flip while it's still hot.And, it was easy to clean, by hand, and in the dishwasher we tried both.The non-stick surface is exactly that, and while a larger surface would have been nice, this also fits comfortably on a countertop without taking up too much room.It's not too heavy either, so it can be moved around with ease.Plus, it comes in several colors to go with most any kitchen.

We tried several foods on this.My mom grilled T-Bones, Mahi Mahi, scallops and even did an entire London Broil on it.For size comparison, it will hold two large T-Bones, or 4 medium sized New York Strips.The steaks got a very nice sear, with grill marks, and were easy to come to the desired wellness using some common cooking times, such as you would for a frying pan (a medium thick steak needs about 3 minutes on high heat, per side, for medium).We cooked all these foods on the maximum setting.My mom seared the London Broil and used a temperature probe to check donenessas she would have done in the oven also, despite knowing what temp the oven is at!We had no problem with the grill holding heat.This would be an ideal appliance for a couple with a small kitchen another cook top, that doesn't heat up a room the way an oven can.

Despite how great it cooked for us, $200 (or even $140) is outrageously expensive, especially considering it has a couple basic flaws.The temperature dial has no numbers.This is an issue if you need to cook something slowly at a low temperature.This wasn't a big negative for us, but for the price it's unacceptable.Some foods are best prepared at a particular setting (like 350 for pancakes), and there's no way to tell with this.Another problem, the entire thing can go into the dishwasher EXCEPT for the drip tray the item most likely to get the messiest?Finally, Wolfgang Puck has a very similar product, Wolfgang Puck WPRGG0010 1800-Watt Reversible Nonstick Grill and Griddle, that is $50 cheaper, has numbers on the temperature dial and is from a better-known brand.

Overall, this was very useful, and we will definitely use it a lot.I would not hesitate to recommend it if it were less than $100, but I can't recommend it for $140. Those who are tempted might want to try the Wolfgang model at the lower price point.

**UPDATE** We've had the grill quite a while now, and have realized that it really is an awesome appliance that we WOULD pay $140 for!We use it 2-3 times a week, every week.Everything from hotdogs to steaks to fish to pankackes comes out wonderful.Though I still wish the dial had temperatures listed, I would still not hesitate to buy this again.

()I got this and thought, "Oh, cool, one appliance for two jobs, and should be easy to clean up instead."Ok, it does the job of two appliances semi-ok, but the cleanup is iffy and you need to pay attention to what you're thinking about cooking on it.Though the description emphasizes cooking right at the table, I wouldn't advise it unless you're going to cook something that is splatter free.I wouldn't try the suggested bacon, except in the case where you want everyone at the table coated in grease droplets.Pancakes, eggs, veggies, and anything that doesn't normally send hot oil particles flying are ok.Cooking up some ground beef, sausages, bacon, and the like, is not so good an idea due to their fat content.Even the manual points out that you should be using "quality meat" with this grill.

While you might be thinking, "I can just turn the heat down and it will be ok," let me warn you, there is no temperature guide on this thing.The temperature control dial doesn't use temperatures or numbers to indicate the temperature setting.Instead, it has a sloped graphic which is fairly useless.You get to guess how hot the grill will get based on where along the slope you set the dial.To add insult to injury, the temperature of the grill itself isn't very stable, varying up to 20 degrees, (I used a thermometer to check this out).Maybe I'm just too used to cooking with gas and forgot this is how cooking with electric is?

And now for the cleanup.If you've opted to cook up something greasy or something has gotten stuck to the non-stick surface, (marinade, cheese, charred meat, etc), the included scraper doesn't do so well for cleaning up the grill side.The grooved end of the scraper doesn't properly fit the grooves in the grill top.Luckily, the whole top can go in the sink for a good soak, and then into the dish washer.The grease catching pan on the bottom is hand wash only for some reason, contrary to the words of some of the other reviewers, (page 7 of the manual, last paragraph).

After cooking up several meals on this item, I have to admit it's useful, even if it is a pain here and there.All said and done, I think it's pricey for what it is and how it performs.Other models offer the same or more features and at a much better price.

()In the past, I've used stovetop griddles and even some electric griddles.The Bodum Electric Grill and Griddle puts all of these to shame.I love this piece of cookware and would repurchase immediately if something we're to happen to this one.

PROS:

First, the unit itself comes in four pieces: the stand, drip tray, griddle/grill, and electric adapter.

* Stand-the stand is extremely sturdy.A big plus for me is that it has a rubber coated base which actually doesn't slip...at all.It also is easy to clean up with a kitchen wipe or damp paper towel.

* Drip TrayThe drip tray is probably less than 1/4", but unlike most griddles it covers the entire area of the griddle.I've cooked large breakfasts with lots of bacon and have never even come close to filling it.After emptying the contents you can throw it in the dishwasher...definite plus.

* Griddle/Grillconstructed of heavy non-stick aluminum, I'm expecting this to hold up for many years.I've cooked sandwiches, pancakes, burgers, veggies, pancakes, etc at various temperature settings without any problem.Low settings are awesome for keeping food warm until meal time, and medium/higher settings can cook a 1/2" burger in minutes.There may be a slight heat variation between the longest sides, but it's so minimal that it's barely noticeable (I was being especially critical when looking at this since it's been my biggest complaint with other electric griddles. This Bodum Griddle offers the most even cooking that I've seen thus far).I really appreciate the ingenuity of the grill on one side of the plate and the griddle on the other...it's one less thing I have to find space for.Also, the handles are extremely heat-resistant.

My only Con, and it's not even that big of a deal is the cord is pretty short.I think it would be difficult to actually use the griddle at the dining room table as advertised.It's probably 4' long.Also, the temperature is set by a typical dial knob.

All in all, I love this griddle/grill.

()This is a fantastic table top grill from Bodum.The grilling surface is quite large and the cooking surface is dishwasher safe ( I wash mine by hand though).I didn't grill any thick steaks or hotdogs on it, as I have a Char Broil Infrared Gas grill outdoor, but I did use this to do Korean BBQ, which consists of a bunch of marinated meats that you sit around a table with friends and family and grill and eat ( Do a google search for Korean BBQ if you need a visual image).I don't think steaks would be a problem on this grill as long as you aren't expecting the same kind of quality from a gas/charcoal grill.

I cooked marinated rib-eye sliced thinly on it, as well as squid, tripe, chicken thighs and shrimp.All came out well and cooked with no problems.I did it outdoors cause the food was smokey from all the marinade burning off.The dial doesn't tell you the exact temp, but the style of food I cooked needed to be on high heat so I just turned it all the way up.

Clean up was ok, but took a little more elbow grease to get clean.While the surface was hot, I used the included scraper to scrape off the burned on sauces, and then washed it by hand and scrubbed off the grill plate with a non scratch scrubber.

I would recommend this grill if you are looking for an indoor grill.I also used it to cook pancakes and eggs with great success.My main fun with using this is Korean BBQ, so this suited my purpose quite well.

This grill does make cooking and eating with friends more fun if you are cooking the right type and style of food.I recommend this grill.

Lodge HHMT Max Temp Handle Mitt, BlackThis mitt is good at insulating handles from heat... one can hold the skillet comfortably without feeling the heat. I don't think this thing can resist as high temperatures as stated on the product description because mine has already scorched at the edge where it comes in contact with the pan and as a result the fabric is fraying badly. I have never left the mitt in place while cooking, I have only used it to move the pan from the stove to the sink or to lift the pan to serve meals from it so I guess that the black fabric covering the outside of the mitt is not very heat-resistant.

I got this and the Lodge 2 Piece Hot Handle Holder Set at the same time, and this product is a lot better.It's more substantial, thicker, and because it's thicker (although the same size) it fits the handle more snugly, therefore less slipping around.

It does tend to get warm if you leave the holder on the handle while cooking.I don't think that it will ever get hot enough to burn you, though.You should, at worst, feel a little discomfort, and you can just let go before it gets anywhere close to the burning point.I like to leave it on the iron skillets because it's so easy to just grip the iron handle without thinking about it.I didn't notice any searing of the material of this Mitt.

The problem is that if the holder gets wet, it becomes useless as a heat-resister.It doesn't happen often, but all it takes is a drop of water to burn you.

I would recommend the silicone based holders, like HotHandle™ Silicone Cookware Handle Holder that I also got at the same time that I got the Lodge mitt.And no, I'm not a sales rep for them.Even if they get wet, the water doesn't penetrate through the mitt, so you're safe.Actually, I wouldn't recommend this one It's sold by Target, not Amazon, and it's a little bit too long for most Lodge handles.

I really didn't know what to expect when I bought this product, but when I got it I liked it a lot.I can see where it might burn if left pushed all the way on the handle, but I just simply slide it back towards the end of the handle, leave it there, and when I need to move or lift the pan, just slide it back down all the way on.It works like a good quality pot holder, and is a bit non-skid so it tends to grip pretty good.It fits in the hand well, and works as designed.Convenient to use with cast iron since the heat travels up the handles well, and you always need a pot holder or rag to keep from burning your hands.This is a well made product that works as intended.I'm glad I bought it.

I purchased this product to use along with my new Lodge cast-iron skillet.During the last three weeks, I've used the mitt on exactly six occasions.Because the mitt heats up if left on the handle of the skillet, I've been careful to remove it after each use.Yet the mitt is already falling apart--there are numerous cracks in the fabric and the stuffing has become exposed, despite extremely light usage.

I do not recommend this product.

The day after Thanksgiving, "Black Friday" is the official kick off of the Holiday shopping season. I have never participated in this event, however those 20% coupons to shop between 6AM and 11AM enticed me. I needed a new cookware set, since my old pots and pans dated back to before I was born.

My Experience: (Rate by school grade A through F)

* Appearance: All the pieces looked great. The set looks as if it should be worth $500.00 (Grade A )

* Weight: The weight of each piece is solid and even. An important point because I flip my food and move the pans a lot while cooking. Note: These pieces do not feel cheap. Very good solid feel. (A-)

* Covers: The lids are a little light in weight, however they create a vacum seal when the heat is turned down. They do a better job then I expected. Normally with lighter lids you think they would wiggle and pop off, but these hold tight! (B )

* Handles: Solid Stainless steel, riveted handle. Solid feel and yes they stay cool. Also long enough to get a good grip. (A)

* Heat Distribution Cuisinart recommends cooking on lower heat. Yes, this is true. The aluminum bottoms heat quickly and there are no hot spots. Trust me, use low heat. (A )

* Sticking Well, these are not non stick. I used most of these pots and pans already to reheat our Thanksgiving dinner. Some things really stuck to the pots even when using PAM. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, stuck like glue. Next morning: Bacon stuck, but eggs did not. Go figure.... (B-)

* Clean Up: Water and soap in pan right after cooking. Yes this works well, but I have always done this. (B)

* Dishwasher: Yes, they are dishwasher safe, however after one cycle, the inside bottoms of a couple of pans had a purple tint to it. So, I have decided just to hand wash these for now. (Until I get lazy). (C-)

-They are decent pans, looks great when you first take them out.

-They are sturdy and I use metal utensils to cook, I like that.

-The attached aluminum plate in the bottom helps spread and retain heat, if your stove isn't that powerful.

Downs:

-I like to sear and stir fry a lot with hot pans, so they will discolor a little with heat.Overheated oil will cause black oil spots on the pan that are hard to remove.

-You need the pan to be hot so that it doesn't stick, and you will need to use a little more oil than typical.If you don't do either of these, your non-greasy food WILL stick to the pan.

-The aluminum plate takes some time to heat up.

-The aluminum plate reduces the responsiveness of "lowering the flames" on your stove.Less control.

Scanpan Classic 8-Inch Fry PanI've owned several Scanpan products. This fry pan, an 8-inch fry pan and a sauce pan. All stick after being used for a while. After I had problems with the first one I talked to the store I bought it from and to Scanpan. They said to use lower heat and don't use cooking sprays. I followed those instructions with the next pan I bought and still had problems. I also tried the "restore" method mentioned in the manual using the steel wool that was included with the pan without any success.

When they were new they were great, but once they started sticking, they were worse than a regular pan without a non-stick coating. Plus the sellers won't back them up. I tried to return mine under their "Lifetime" warranty, none of the stores selling them would take them back without talking to the distributor first. The distributor never returned my phone calls. Also a major consumer testing magazine that originally gave these a high rating retracted that rating after getting bad feedback from owners. You can read back issues in your library.

We got a large sauce pan, 1 small and 1 medium size fry pans.

I was very excited the first time we got our Scanpans. I read about the new technology surrounding this product that supposedly to be non-stick for many years. Now, we only have the big sauce pan left. We have to throw away the 2 frying pans.

To give it some credit, they lasted a couple of years before it started to peel off (actually not peeling off like a teflon. It starts to have some tiny holes on the surface which grows in size as you use it. Then finally when we see the metal base, we got worried that pieces of those non-stick surface gets to our food that we decided it's time to get rid of it). The non-stick properties starts to wear off before it lasted a year.

Pros:

-heavy and thick to distribute heat evenly

-Handles are oven resistant so you can actually use it to cook in the oven

-Well made, great construction. Durable.

Cons:

-Not as non-stick as teflon. And non-stick properties continue to deteriorates as you use it. Approximately a year.

-Not a good value. For the price, it should last much longer.

-Not for induction cooking.

I was impressed with the advertising and I bought THE ENTIRE COLLECTION!The saucepans have a few nicks, nothing that bad, but the fry pans did not last past the 2 years.Each fry pan has lost it's nonstick quality. I can still see it around the upper rim, but the inside surfaceof each pan isbald! Now it looks like any other pan that food "sticks" to.

My mother always used Guardian Service cookware, bought back in the early 1950's, which was the ultimate in cookware then, also being cast aluminum. I inherited her cookware (which they no longer make) but not until I had already purchased a Magnalite set, which is the closest match to the Guardian Service. It is true waterless cooking. Easy clean up. I never had to "season" mine first (that's usually only done with cast iron cookware) and I've had most of my Magnalite pieces for 30 years. A 15 lb turkey fits in the 15" roaster and I get raves every Thanksgiving . . . the roaster practically makes it's own dark, rich gravy and the turkey meat is so moist! To me, as a devoted family "chef", nothing on the market can beat Magnalite.

Chantal Copper Fusion 8-Inch Fry Pan, OnyxI received this pan for Christmas 2011. I have the larger pan, and loved it, and was so excited to receive another one. I love the way the copper fusion cooks, and the enamel cleans beautifully, with minimal effort. I've used it almost every day for 10 months, and thoroughly enjoye cooking with it.

That being said.

This little pan has got to be one of the worst examples of Chantal cookware I have ever had the misfortune to use. Not only did the enamel start scratching on the interior, only using plastic utensils, and non abrasive cleaners, but the metal edge has started to loosen!

This morning was the final straw. I took it out of the dishwasher, and a large section of the outer enamel is blown off. I have never given it any temperature shocks, and always leave it to cool on a hot pad before washing.

I immediately called Chantal, only to be told it was of course my fault that their expensive cookware is so shoddy. I have had my large pan for four years now, and have never had an ounce of trouble with itbut I will never buy another Chantal product.

We got the whole line of these pans as we had a difficult time finding a sturdy product to work with our induction cooktop.EVERYTHING sticks to them. I found myself scraping spaghetti out of one a few nights ago.They are solidly made, don't have those annoying rivets, and they're beautiful.But, for all that, they are a pain to cook in and clean.

Lefse Grill, HeritageI've used my griddle for over 20 yrs for lefse, bacon, swedish pancakes and whatever else I wanted to make.Its just starting to go and I put a new one on my wish list for this christmas.I LOVE it and would never buy a rectangular griddle again.Its amazing how much you can fit on a round griddle.

I've been using the same Bethany round aluminum griddle (not non-stick) since 1974.I've replaced the temperature control twice, and it's been well worth it.I use the griddle for fried aggs, bacon, omelettes, pancakes, Wiener schnitzel, quesadillas, and more.It's well-seasoned and I rarely have sticking problems.37 years sort of speaks for itself.

I have owned a silverstone grill for years and love it, so much so that I ordered one for a gift recently.It is definitely useful for making more than just lefse!One word of caution:make sure that the specifications/description matches what you want, not just going by the picture.The Amazon site was confusing in that it actually had 3 pictures of the Bethany grills, but Bethany only makes 2 grills.When the grill arrived, we realized that we had ordered the wrong one.We had wanted the non-stick version, but had actually accidently ordered the aluminum "satin" one instead.(My attempt at making lefse on a Bethany aluminum grill resulted in my lefse sticking to the grill, a problem I have never had with my silverstone non-stick finish.)Customer service was very helpful, however, and the "wrong" grill was picked up and replaced with the correct one, all free of charge.

It is pretty big for a stove as you can have two burners heating it at once. I am glad I bought this pan. I also bought a smaller skillet for use on my home stove.

But for campfire cooking this is one of the most versitle pieces out there, you can fry in it, use it a a griddle and make monster pancakes. You can even whip up a big batch of Chili. If you likecamping or even backyard cooking this is a must have. I like to use mine with a Turkey deepfryer base as the heating element it works great.



I bought this specifically for making my homemade pizza. I've found that baking pizza in a cast iron skillet that was generously coated with shortening yielded wonderful results, whether one preferred thick (my choice), or thin crust (my wife's choice). It turns out a pastry-like crust that my extended family raves over. (Be sure to use a generous amount of olive oil in the dough..4 tablespoons per two cups of flour..)Baking it at 500 degrees is also part of the secret. The problem was that I previously had only the smaller 12" cast iron skillets, but this big boy allowed me to make a hearty pizza main course for four to five hungry adults. The cast iron also retained heat for quite a while, once out of the oven, so that my pizza stayed warm until the last slice had been eaten. Clean-up was a breeze..just wipe the pan out with a paper towel and give it a spray of cooking oil.

It's big, it's black, it's cast iron! I had the 15in skillet in my wish list for a long time when this one showed up in my gold box. I didn't even mind paying the higher price for a pre-seasoned piece which is a bonus for a skillet of this size. The two smaller handles on this one make it even easier to get in and out of the oven, not to mention giving it a better fit. It works just find on the stove top but will over hang the side a bit. A damp towell on the counter will help if your counter is not high heat proof. If you cook big meals for big crowds you're probably already in love with cast iron. Put this one on your list. And thank you Amazon; not many companies will wave shipping on somthing as heavy as cast iron.

The curved lip allows for pouring that resists clinging to the side of the skillet. It's very very easy to maintain. Personally, I hand wash all my high end cookware, so I cannot comment on whether it's dishwasher safe. If you do hand wash (and you should....just sayin'), use Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ and a non abrasive sponge to keep that amazing shine.

I give the product 5 stars, for it's durability, construction, looks, and ease of cleaning. I love this Cuisinart Line and highly recommend it.



Once I learned how to properly heat stainless steel skillets so that the food doesn't stick to them, I've been using Cuisinart Chef's Classic line. The results have been good to very good (especially given the price/quality ratio.) (Hint: search on YouTube "rouxbe how to heat a pan")

This MultiClad Pro skillet is from a different dimension altogether heavier, sturdier, delivering consistently great results every time. Great for browning foods, sauteing meats and poultry, sauces, omlettes, dishes that need to go into the oven, etc. This skillet is especially great for creating a "fond", or caramelized bits of stuck-on food that is used for flavoring your final dish.

Clean up is very easy just put some water into the skillet and heat it up; once it cools a bit, wipe it clean. In extreme cases use "Bar Keeper's Friend" which is available in places like Target. Please note that bleach, ammonia, metal sponges and other abrasives will scratch the surface of your stainless steel fry pan.

In summary, highly recommend!

We had reached the point where we did not like seeing bits of various forms of plastic in our food.We did some research into Stainless skillets and fry pans and decided to take a chance.These really work.So far we have found that we don't need to have the heat set as a high on our glass/ceramic top stove as we did with Teflon and anodized Aluminum pans.Follow the advice of the chefs online, put a little oil in the pan, heat it, place food and cook.Cleanup is simple.

This is a great little pan--just the right size for grilling a single sandwich also very heavy/durable. My first multiclad adn I love it. Cleans up better with Barkeepers Friend than in the dishwasher so I tend to wash by hand.

()If I had seen this cutting board in person, I would not have chosen this specific board.It is just too small for the types of jobs I expect from a cutting board.That doesn't mean the board is bad, just that I need a larger board.

I had seen a segment of America's Test Kitchen on television and an OXO Good Grips board similar to this one had been the winner of their cutting board comparison test between wood, glass, and non-porous boards.The OXO won because of the material on the edges which made it non-slip on the counter top, ease of cleanup and resistance to odor retention.Those are all things important to me also.For this specific board, the dimensions provided by the manufacturer show it to be 13.5" wide x 10.5" deep.In actuality you have to take away one full inch from each of those measurements to allow for the "walls" on two sides which keep food from falling off the board and for the narrow non-slip edges on two sides.

The board was very stable on my counter top (engineered quartz) and did not slip around at all.Because there is something on each of the edges I was forced to do all my cutting and chopping in one specific area of the board, therefore all the knife marks are in that one area and I think will become a problem as I use the product for an extended length of time.As a matter of fact, I wonder if I will feel comfortable using this board for very long because those knife grooves will just get deeper and more numerous.If you are only going to cut up a very few items, perhaps this board will be adequate for you.I found it to be simply too small.I wanted to cut two onions, two green peppers, several cloves of garlic, and several smoked sausage links.I could only do half that amount at one time; two onions, the garlic, and one pepper, then the second pepper and the sausage.All my other cutting boards would have accommodated the full amounts easily.And there are other OXO cutting boards which would have easily held all that prepped food, they just would not have the "contain" and "pour" features.

So this board comes down to how much food you like to prep at one time and how you want to convey that food to the cooking pan.The good things for me were the non-slip feature and that I could push the chopped food up all the way to the edges of the board but keep it contained on the board.The disadvantages were the small cutting surface and the concentration of knife marks all located in one place on the board.I like that I can put this board in my dishwasher, top rack only, and will certainly do that.Maybe just make sure I take the board out before the diswasher goes into the heated drying cycle.I don't want to take a chance with that rubber-like non-slip edge being damaged by heat.

()There's a debate over whether plastic or wooden cutting boards are safer, bacteria-wise.If you've decided on the plastic side, this looks like a good board.

Easy to manipulate has a nice feel and there's two "grippy" sides.The shape works it IS easy to dump chopped up stuff into the pot.

I hacked it a few times with a big knife.That left tiny TINY marks in the board.Looks normal enough for this kind of board.Almost invisible and shouldn't be hard to clean. *** update 3/15/2013 *** Be CAREFUL when you slice!I sliced toast with a serrated blade and it gouged the heck out of the surface.The board is still useable and still cleans well enough but it would be a mess if enough of those gouges built up.Slice only with a plain blade.

The product info says "Juice grooves on one side retain liquids ...".I've got no idea what they're talking about!I put some water on the board and there's nothing that's going to keep it from pouring off a corner.Two of the sides have raised edges but any liquid that makes it that far will keep going until it makes it to an open corner.

The non-slip bottom is VERY non-slip.

Two of the edges have grabby plastic.It's molded very well into the polypropylene board but you can feel the gap.Keep it clean for that's a prime spot for bacterial growth.

Speaking of clean, polypropylene is not anti-bacterial but it does not promote their growth either.It doesn't absorb water and is easy to dry off.It can take high heat (over 300f) so feel free to dump boiling water on it.5% bleach would be a good idea after cutting meat!

()This cutting board weighs a bit over a pound.I was really intrigued because while I normally just use flat clear flexible cutting mats instead of cutting boards, I always am looking for a good board to use when I can tons of tomatoes every year.The fact that this let you pour and had a lip was really intriguing to me.While it will be better for my problematic task than the clear mats, it's still not a perfect design as juice will still run all off the sides and front.Of course I can understand this it makes it a lot easier to cut if there and pick up.

Works great for vegetables like onions, peppers, celery the usual, and normal amounts of tomatoes.It's a bit heavy when you pick it upit shouldn't be an issue for most people but very elderly people or people with strength issues might prefer something lighter like the flat mats.I notice this because I'm recovering from a torn rotator cuff and movements with a pound like this would have been hard for me when that was an issue.

It does mark up easily (like most boards do!) so expect to see slice marks soon after you get it.It's dishwasher safe and fits in the dishwasher easily.

I'm always bad to use my cutting board on the stove. I know you shouldn't do that, but I do catch myself doing it anyway. This board is tall enough to give you generous cutting room, but I'm going to have to watch the end for a hot eyeI won't be able to just trim this like I can flexible mats.

Where it's better than flexible mats is it's easier to wash in the dishwasher, it's got a great grip and is easy to pick up, and I do like the lips on the side and top.It's much more hygenic than a wood board, and since it has GREEN on the grips, it will be easy to remember it's for veggies only.(Since I don't like to use my veggie boards for meats.)

()When I saw this chop and pour board, I thought it would be an ideal addition to my kitchen utensils.

The first time it was used was to chop mushrooms for a pasta meal.

Some of the features that I appreciate and found useful:

-the corner spout helps guide foot into pots and pans

-lightweight for moving food to pan or board

-the non-slip edges keep the Board from slipping

-soft, tapered grip makes lifting easy

-able to clean in the dishwasher since it is top-rack dishwasher safe.

The Board is a good size but not too big, at 13.5 long by 10.5 down.

I'm very happy with this product. I did try the bottom-rack of the dishwasher and it was fine.

I'm a connoisseur of cookware by no means, but expected

an 8" skillet to be bigger than this.

I got out my machinist measuring scale and come up with

the following measurements; largest diameter at top of rim= 7.55",

flat area at inside of bottom= approximately 5.5".

This is about big enough for a couple eggs or maybe a sandwich.

By no means what I expected.

On the bright side, we will use it in it's capacity,

and it is VERY high quality, in my opinion.

We purchased based on a prior purchase of another pan of the same brand and line.

After less than six months this pan has developed little blisters and the coating is peeling off!When I contacted T-Fal they said to send the pan to them for evaluation.It would take 4-6 weeks for them to determine if the pan is defective.If they determine that it is not, then they will send it back to me at MY expense (in addition to me sending it to them at MY expense!).I was then told that it was probably caused by me using an aerosol on the pan which would void the warranty.Sounds like they've already determined that it's my fault!!The warranty that came with my pan does not mention anything at all about aerosol and I haven't used it anyway!!Nor have I ever used a metal utensil or placed this in the dishwasher.This is a shoddy product with a useless warranty!I would never buy another T-Fal product!!

I bought this pan for my husband based on everyone's positive feedback.Sadly after three uses, the coating on the bottom had bubbled up and I will have to return the pan.I hope there is another more durable non-stick pan that I can order as a replacement.

The pan is advertised as being anodized.You would assume that would mean inside the pan.It only means outside.It is not anodized non-stick on the cooking surface.Very disappointed.

My son cooked bacon in one and it was sticking really bad. I know there are tricks to using cast iron, so I'll start doing some research to get back in the old groove. I love cast iron and these smaller pans are good for just me. If you are planning to purchase these, please note they are all really small. The little one would fry one egg, the middle one would do pancakes or tortillas and the largest one is good for bacon or a couple of pork chops. That should give you an idea of how big they are. I got these yesterday, and they were what I expected-really small, kinda small and medium. I'm not sure why others have complained about the sizes when they're stated clearly, but you need smaller pans for various reasons and these fit the bill. After rinsing, I used the middle one to saute some ham and cheeses for sandwiches as a testI mean, what doesn't ham stick to? But the pan worked perfectly, nothing stuck, and cleanup was easy with water and a brush.

So these are smaller utensils for special purposes, and from what i've seen are well done. I expect I'll use them for quite a few years, and if cooking doesn't become a thing of the past, my grandkids will still be using them long after. Iron tools are great in general and these are a good addition to my kitchen.

[Two weeks later] Having used these several times, now, I'm still satisfied with the purchase. The seasoning on one turned out to be a little thin and let some of the metal show through on the high spots, but it's not a big deal and hasn't affected the performance of the pan. I've been very pleased with how easy they are to clean, and they're so much better than lighter pans for sauteing and searing-I use an electric range, and the extra mass of these pans stores enough energy that the temperatures are much better controlled, and cooking is a lot more fun as a result. I'd make the purchase again without reservation.

These are very basic skillets. No fancy handles, just simple pre-seasoned skillets.I bought one other cheap skillet (Stansport Cast Iron 8 Inch Fry Pan) that I returned because it was actually crappy. I didn't know that was possible; skillets are so simple.

The sizes on these are good too. I use the small one for small ingredient prep before adding it to soup, the medium one for frying toast, and the large one for small dishes. I also own a 12" which is the size I use the most so I bought it years ago.

This is durable, wont fall over even with large books, holds large books and small books and even just a piece of paper. This is an attractive cookbook holder. It also appears to be sturdy. That said, it was a "no go" for me because only small to moderate sized cookbooks will fit in it. Since many of my favorite books are large and jumbo sized I need something with a larger capability.
